Scott and Joel's rivalry is so !!!
On Joel's end, I don't think Joel really hates Scott as much as he resents what Scott represents to him personally.
Joel's grudge against Scott really starts during Last Life, but as early as Third Life you can see the seeds being planted. Joel tries to steal Scott's cows, but Scott catches him and waves him off like nothing, and when Joel does eventually get cows from Scott, there's this calm sense that Scott isn't bothered by it. Joel burns Scott and Jimmy's wall and lies about it, and Scott's annoyed, but when all is settled Scott just announces, sounding almost pleased, that he'd known it was Joel all along and was glad to be validated in that after everyone else thought it was Scar.
From the beginning, there's this implication that even when Joel wins, Scott comes away from it mostly unaffected, or even validated in some way.
And then Last Life happens, and it's a hundred times worse. Joel antagonizes everyone this season, leaving death and chaos in his wake no matter where he does. Most players are angry, afraid, see Joel as one of the biggest threats on the server. But Scott just..doesn't. Joel kills Scott, but is killed immediately after. Joel blows up Scott's roof, just for Scott to criticize Joel's inefficient method. Joel covers Scott's base in lava, and Scott thanks him for the "defense", saying he kinda likes it. There are multiple scenes where Joel sneaks around Scott's base, trying to stay quiet, just to panic when Scott finds him. As if Joel, a red name, were the prey, needing to cower and hide from Scott!
Because Scott refuses to be afraid of Joel, because Scott never shows vulnerability, because Scott somehow always manages to make Joel feel small.
Since then, it's been consistent across seasons- Joel is..offput..when Scott is doing well, and Scott always seems to be doing well. Joel makes a point out of targeting Scott specifically at every turn, every chance he gets, wanting to see Scott fail.
It's not really..about Scott, though? Like yes, Joel hates how calm and confident Scott is, and he does find Scott genuinely infuriating. But I think it's always been less about Scott actually doing anything to wrong Joel and more about Joel's pride.
Joel is someone who cares a lot about how he effects people. He wants to have an impact, to be important in the eyes of others, whether by being able to frustrate them, having them admire him, or being able to intimidate them. Joel thrives off attention, for lack of a better word, and he hates Scott because Scott never seems effected by him, which is a sickening feeling for Joel. Though I'd honestly also say it's often good for Joel to have a target for his bloodlust, especially if he's using that target to work through personal insecurities too.
Scott's feelings toward Joel, on the other hand, are..complicated.
In Third Life, he really had no ill will toward Joel, to be honest. At the very beginning of the season, Scott sent Joel specifically (and nobody else) the location of his and Jimmy's base so Joel could come see them, because Scott wanted Joel there. Scott, on multiple occasions throughout the season, stops by to 'gossip' with Joel and give him information as well, and while Joel antagonizes Scott a few times, so does, like, everyone else, so Scott isn't really clocking Joel in specific as an enemy. By the end of the season, Scott and Joel are even fighting together, and Scott is openly unhappy when Joel dies (albeit not extremely so).
It's from Last Life on that Joel is really antagonizing Scott, but I think it'd be a stretch to say Scott really hates Joel. Sure, Joel can be a pain and get in the way, but I've also always got the sense that Scott- on a good day- kind of enjoys it. Scott is honestly amused by a lot of Joel's attempts against him. Not just in the condescending way when Scott wants to show he's unbothered, but also in the sense that Joel is just a really funny person and he's good at making Scott laugh.
Furthermore, Scott often sneaks through to the end of seasons with very little challenge just because people don't want to target him, and I get the sense that Scott gets a bit of a thrill out of Joel targeting him sometimes. Plus it's probably nice for Scott, who always feels the need to be the "responsible" one, to know he can be extra petty with Joel and it won't really matter (because joel will target him either way, so it's not like scott can make things much worse).
Which isn't to say Scott is completely unbothered by Joel. As I said before, Joel can be..frustrating, and even beyond that, Scott is someone who needs to always be in control of himself, so the few times Joel has genuinely won over Scott have probably been..hard to take in stride. As has the fact that Scott seemingly can't make an ally out of Joel, no matter what he does. Scott's main talent is his charisma, and having Joel be so resistant to it is genuinely offputting. A double edged sword where Scott is, in some ways, powerless, for once, but finds that to be fun as much as it is upsetting.
Overall, I don't think Joel and Scott hate each other at all. They're both very strong willed people. Joel needs to be able to effect people like he needs to breathe, but Scott refuses to lose control of himself most of the time, so they're offput by each other. But as much as they complain about one another, offputting doesn't always mean exclusively bad.
I think Joel likes Scott more than he'll ever admit, and it's honestly good for Joel to have someone to target his bloodlust onto. Joel resents the insecurities Scott represents, but he doesn't hate Scott, really.
And I think Scott likes Joel too, if Third Life is anything to go off of. Furthermore, I get the sense he almost enjoys the feeling of actually being challenged by someone who'll probably never be an ally. Even if it's frustrating.
Really, for being "enemies", I just get the sense they're almost good for each other in a lot of ways.

I think one of Ever After High's biggest problems is the lack of characters and/or the lack of commitment to the rebel and royals tension. (Also this is coming from someone who has only really watched what's on Netflix. I have seen everything but I have just watched the Netflix specials wayyyyy more)
But what I mean by that is there will be moments when our main characters will be really hostile towards each other. Like during Legacy Day when all the royals were booing at Raven for not signing the book. Or the cafeteria fight after Legacy Day. Which makes a ton of sense for the plot of EAH. However, there are also a lot of moments when the rebels and royals are friendly with each other. That doesn't make a ton of sense when compared with the two instances I mentioned earlier. An example of this would be in Briar's Study Party, where they are all studying and dancing together. I just think it's strange. Also I'm not really thinking about Apple in all of this. She feels like a special case. I'm more so thinking about Briar, Ashlynn, Dexter, Blondie, Daring.
So I think in order to remedy this there are two options. Maybe even three. I'm also going to be focus on the royals more in this because I think my problems really lie with them.
Option 1: add more side characters that are the hostile ones during scenes like Legacy Day and the cafeteria fight. (Specifically royals) That way, our main characters like Brair and Ashlynn don't seem fake when interacting with characters like Raven, Maddie or Cedar outside of the scenes.
Option 2: make the royal characters specifically be mean/rude/hostile whatever to the rebels all the time. Some ways I would incorporate it into scenes already present in the show would be: when Apple and Raven are going to find a new mirror (which they go to all royals) have the royals they go to be curt with Raven. Or the look on their faces turns into a frown whenever they see her. So we can keep up the rebel vs royal and make it seem more believable.
Option 3: make the royal vs rebel tension a complete facade. A facade they only keep up around teachers or their parents. I guess one could potentially make an argument that this is kinda what the show is doing already, but not really. Because you have characters like Blondie who does everything to be consider a royal or Apple's whole thing she's got going on. It's obvious that the tension is truly there, especially with scenes like the cafeteria fight who would they have been pretending for? There were no teachers or parents there. They genuinely were fighting. So in order to make if feel like a facade I would have a scene where characters admit that they don't feel any hostility towards the other side but feel as though they need to act like they do. That would explain scenes like the booing at Legacy Day. And if you put some teachers in the cafeteria when the fight happened, it would also make more sense. But just to make it a little more interesting I would have scenes with the rebels feelings being hurt. Like Raven feeling absolutely awful after Legacy Day and refusing to talk to Dexter afterward because he was booing too. Also this pretending would primarily fall with the royals because I feel like it benefits them the most but we can have some scenes were the rebels do it too.
But those are my thoughts on that. I've always thought the characters' relationship was weird. Ever since I was a little kid. Also this is not a complaint about the show. I love this show so so so so much. It's one of my favorites ever.

got this reblog on one of my posts were i talked about being anxious about the future of the zelda series after totk and-
Tumblr media
i even went back and unblocked them just to check my own post and check twice what they meant exactly- but i still dont know how they got to these conclusions
i never said i 'want a good uwu ganondorf' (bc that would mean hes aligned with hyrule bc thats how goodness works!!!!11!1!!!), i also dont think of any of the zeldas as 'whores' (seriously, where did that come from?? neither me nor the addition of someone agreeing with me said anything like that??? did they think bc the addition called tloz misogynistic means we think zelda is a whore????? huh???)
its also funny how they say they want zelda to stay a simple fairytale rather than have 'people like me' bc .. one point i talked about in the og post was how the evil arab thing VS good white people media likes to do so much is so normalized here that its simply seen as a simple harmless fairytale trope instead of a big underlying issue in general media and the writers might not even realize it (which is worse) bc the most 'generic' appeal is to people who dont think of it as a problem in the first place, because it is so normalized
(huh, i wonder about what kind of person that part was about .. hmmmm)
(ALSO funny they mention princess hilda as nuanced villain ... like ... wow they are so nuanced about purple haired people!!- like guess why we want a nuanced/less badly/less flat written ganondorf and what he, in particular, has not in common with other villains! its not his hair color! .... or was that point supposed to mean .. look we have one female character that is a villain, its not misogynistic! idk honestly)
(and the classic, "you just call it this/dont like it bc its not what you wanted !!!!!!!2!"1!112!!")
also funny how its 'never gonna be progressive enough' like asking for the franchise to maybe put a little more thought and nuance into their white divine right vs evil desert man simulator instead of making it worse is already asking too much
(i dont know what the last point has to do with anything??)
(also yes totk is racist, like most if not all of the franchise and a alot of other media as well, shocker- you can still like it though, i and plenty of other people are still fans of it, we just wish they did a little more with their stuff and maybe not make the racism problem WORSE)
(also yes the hyrule monarchy is also evil :))) )
(and also not so secretly so either :)) )

something else i appreciate about the rvb fandom is that while we’re all very very open to criticizing/shittalking the show there isn’t a lot of like. being ashamed of liking it. sometimes you’ll see people put a disclaimer of like “i only enjoy this critically!” especially among newer fans and i do get the impulse of having that qualifier so like no shade but for the most part you don’t really see people like. disowning the fact that they’re fans of the show or being afraid of being cringe or embarrassing for liking it.

does anyone remember why Micah was sentenced to Beast Island?
and does anyone else feel like it was another example of the 'uncivilized kook' trope when he was introduced?

Why did they make the romantic wham line of the finale love letter "we've written our names on each other in permanent ink" when a) matching commitment tattoos would be a wholly believable and in-character thing for Stede and Edward to do, b) they explicitly have not done so to the point of deep irony that Edward's full back "trust no one" is the closest thing that comes to mind, and c) Edward does have matching swallow tattoos (canon) and potentially signature related tattoos with a whole different man (and the writers have got to know about that popular theory, yeah)?????

My review of Miraculous Ladybug S5 so far is that it has a lot of scenes that I like in theory, but in action just end up being very silly and way over dramatic

literally the only good thing i can say about hellava bust is that they are introducing the seven deadly sins in the same order as dantes divine comedy, like following the order of the 9 layers of hell from shallowest to deepest. only smart reference in the whole show

"spar.kle is fictional who cares" I have seen people praising her for her racist anti-romani comments what the fuck kind of world do you live in
#➳ the fool speaks#fuuuck man i don't think fiction and reality will influence each other 1=1 but characters being weirdos or bigots and it not being#criticized for it makes those kinds of people who Very Much Already Exist IRL think they're in the fucking right. they aren't.#i don't think someone getting spar.kle in hsr is going to turn them into a fucking racist but her being Like That and looking cute#and being playable and not getting called the fuck out in game makes people who ARE racists have a cutesy girl to idolize and support and#use as a way to say shit without getting in trouble because ''ermmm I'm not the one who wrote her!! i just think she's really funny!! she's#not real anyways why are you mad!!''#like my god shut UP#again like. pulling for her or thinking she's cute doesn't mean you want all roma dead. that. that isn't how that works#but if you think of hoyo's writing of her is good and funny and not problematic at all I'd LOVE to know what you think about#how real life roma r treated to this day. like genuinely let's have a little chat. I'm sure you have normal not-racist opinions#and do not use the g slur and do not defend it and tootally don't view roma just as all the bad stereotypes right !!!!#*ok actually pulling for her kinda. shows support to hoyo for whatever weird ass decision someone on their team made#to go ''ah yes let's add racism but make it a cute girl and make it 'funny' this'll get us so much money''#and if you spent on her banner. look idk what to say. shame? yeah shame. hoyo in general is not a company that deserves your money there#are better things to spend your cash on. like literally look at how they treated sum.eru and they made the guy inspired by roma WHITE ???#generally. not something I would advise spending on. but like ok especially on the racist character y'know#anyways.

i wonder how many people would stop bitching about the writing for this show if they could've binged it all and had at least one scene per episode where someone stated everything explicitly like that one scene w/ satan in futurama
#pay no attention to the man behind the curtain / ooc.#i aim to never be petty on main but i'm letting myself have this one season 2 finale day. i'm sorry but i'm a firm hotd enjoyer.#i see so many dogshit and like willfully uncharitable takes across the web it's WILD#like the way people will bitch about it not being verbatim from a FAKE MEDIEVAL TEXTBOOK#or claim something is 'bad writing' bc they don't like it. or it's 'filler' bc it's slow.#is a pacing in this show just ???? yeah kinda lol but jfc.... get your head out of your ass#'why is alicent camping? that's so stupid' idk man she just lost all control of her life for the SECOND time#and they're ALREADY TALKING ABOUT WHORING HER OUT AGAIN. WHY WOULD SHE STAY? THEY DID A REFERENCE TO THE FAMOUS DROWNED OPHELIA PAINTING#WHAT TO DO YOU THINK SHE MIGHT'VE BEEN CONSIDERING????#'daemon would never betray rhaenyra!!!' YOU'RE TAKING DAEMON TARGARYEN AT HIS WORD?? WHILE THE GHOSTS OF CHRISTMAS ARE READING HIM TO FILTH#daemon has CLAIMED he wanted things like the crown/total authority but REALLY he wanted his brother. he wanted acceptance.#WE'VE SEEN HOW SHIT HE IS AT RULING. HE HATES DOING THAT SHIT!!! HE DOES NOT WANT THE CROWN!!!! IT'S A SYMBOL!!!#'why is alys giving him these dreams?' SHE'S NOT !!! SHE LITERALLY SAID HIS FUCKING BED IS MADE OF WEIRWOOD DID YOU FUCKING MISS THAT?????#okay okay i'm gonna stop i'm stopping.....#i just think that people are still bitter about how got ended or have lost the media literacy for a weekly show#bc i genuinely see more dogshit takes about why the show is bad then i do like.... legit criticism which like... tw long rant and swearing!
hey!! if you don't like something i wrote! shut the fuck up and move on!! thanks bye!! no hate is tolerated on this blog :)))
i don't care if you don't like the way i characterized someone in my story!! shut up and get a better hobby than hating on something someone has spent hours creating and pouring love into and accusing them of hating one of their favorite characters because you think that the fic they wrote FOR FUN and NOT FOR YOU is bad characterization/makes the character flawed in a way that you don't like because you have a poor understanding of what makes fanfiction fanfiction (and also humans human tbh lol). sure, they're maybe more flawed than in the actual show, but THATS THE FUCKING POINT OF FANFICTION!!! IS THAT ITS NOT A REAL PART OF THE SHOW!!! AND ITS WRITTEN!!! FOR FUNNNNN!!!!! AND NOT FUCKING FOR YOU AND YOUR FUCK ASS OPINIONS SPECIFICALLY!!!!!!!! and if you think it sucks, i don't care!! you are entitled to your opinion!!!! hate it so so so much but get the fuck over yourself if you think that telling me it's horrible and unrealistic and somehow creating a bad wrap FOR MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IN THIS SHOW is somehow a meaningful usage of your time or gonna get me to delete the fic or stop liking it or stop promoting my own hard work !!!! i'm proud of the things i write and nothing will ever change that. i hope you know what a shitty shitty shitty (and embarrassing) thing it is to do to leave a whole paragraph of hate under someone's hard work just because they interpret a fictional fucking character in a way that you don't like. genuinely genuinely get the fuck over yourself and find a better way to spend your time than caring more about fictional characters than real life people.
#and yeah! honestly i'm upset right now#i do care because its my fic my baby my hard work#and its really hurtful to have someone tell me its stupid unrealistic and somehow a harmful representation of one of my fav characters ever#but also i don't care if people don't like what i write or how i interpret/represent a character!!!#having different opinions and stances on things is so valid and okay#but for you to spell it all out in such a judgmental condescending and hateful way in a reblog of my fic is such a hurtful thing to do#and its very upsetting to see#but it does show very clearly to me that you have no understanding of how to act appropriately or what it takes to write#or how to act maturely and kindly when you come across something of genuinely so little consequence that you don't agree with#that's one of the craziest things about that#is that fanfiction is like meaningless LMAO#and for you to read a fucking fanfiction that you don't like????#and then take the time to explain to the well meaning and hard working author who is just writing for fun and to find friends#why you hate it so much is actually ridiculous#and i am so willing to bet you have zero friends on this website!!#thats kinda mean! but there's so many hateful opinions on your blog that clearly showcase how limited your critical thinking skills are <33#also i'm speaking into the void the person who did this got blocked the second i read what they said LOL#but yeah! i'm not cool with people saying such hateful stuff to me so don't try it again <33#next time i might not be so kind as to keep someone anonymous if this happens again#but at least i'm choosing to be 1000 times more mature than you by not engaging directly and without exposing your sorry ass#. >> mari says shit !

Okay not to delve too much into the disc horse BUT the issue isn't really "should Din become Mand'alor or not" seeing him actually struggle with whether or not to accept the path that's been offered to him. Everyone keeps saying that Din never wanted the saber, and I'm not saying he necessarily does but he also hasn't really made too much of an effort to get rid of it either. Yeah, he offers it to Bo-Katan on the cruiser but that could very well be chalked up to him trying to fulfill his end of their agreement. After all, part of Bo agreeing to help him get Grogu back in the first place was her trying to lay, claim to the Darksaber. Plus we don't see what happened that led him to keep a hold of it, but we do see that he DOES keep it--we even see him fight to keep it against Paz. Yes yes hah hah Cain instinct/anyone but him but still. If he really just flat out didn't want it, he could have let Paz take it by his familial claim. Or he could have simply left it with the covert when he was declared apostate (why should someone shunned like that keep a hold of such a powerful artifact). Hell, he could have just chucked it in a corner of the cruiser on his way out and let Bo decide if she wanted to take it.
So there's something that prompts him to keep a hold of it. There's something drawing him to it, highlighted by the fun movie magic of the lingering shots when he's putting it in his checked bag (~visual storytelling~). And there's something in the fact that the first time we see him fight with it he injures himself! And yet he tries to keep it! Why! This is the interesting thing about him holding the Darksaber.
Compare it to Din and Grogu. No, Din did not set out on that bounty to end up with a kid. Really, he's not looking to keep the kid at all, but he has a damn conscious and then he goes and bonds with him. So season 1 is watching him struggle with unwanted fatherhood and bonding with the kid despite his best efforts. Season 2 is him struggling with this newfound connection he has with the kid with the looming idea that Grogu does not belong with him and needs to be returned to his own kind. Him winning the Darksaber from Gideon adds in another but similar conflict--something powerful is now in his possession, how does he respond to this new responsibility and how does he feel about it. PLUS really if you add in the fact that the Darksaber is famously a Mandalorian AND Jedi artifact and gee wizz guess whose a Mandalorian who just gave up his kid for Jedi school (thematic relevance anyone???).
So Season 3 was initally set up as yet another step in Din's conflict with what he wants internally VS the responsibilities that are giving to him. His kid is gone, he doesn't have to worry about him anymore but he's gonna. Meanwhile, he now has the opportunity to claim leadership of a scattered people but does he want to? Where does his personal code point him? Towards his former foundling Grogu (who by Creed his no longer his responsibility) or to his scattered people (who by tradition he is now the leader of)? Plus just the surface conflict of Din, who grew up in a traditionalist covert and yet has no knowledge or connection to this traditional artifact and yet is now it's wielder by right? That's some good shit right there.
Anyway tldr it's not about Din actually becoming the Mand'alor or not it's about not getting to see him struggle with the responsibility at all.
