the only reason Tim Drake and Damian Wayne don't get along is because if they did the writers wouldn't be able to come up with a plot contrived enough for them to struggle with.

One of my absolute all-time favourite moments in the Bionicle books is the introduction of Downfall, where Hahli is sitting on the shore of Ga-Metru, talking to Kopeke before she starts her story.
There are so many things about this scene I love, all the little implications.
I know Kopeke was chosen by fans to be the new Chronicler, but I really think it don't think it could have been anyone else. It's perfect from a narrative perspective, and the subtle "long a trusted aide to Turaga Nuju" just primes you to think of Matoro. By now, the reader has likely got some idea that Matoro might have to sacrifice himself, and this just places it front of mind.
What I really love it for is the atmosphere, because it is so calm. Hahli's sad but she's trying to hold herself together: "sometimes the best way to make sadness go away is to let it float from you on a tide of words".
And then when she tries to talk about it, she can't and instead talks about Jaller's belief toa are invincible, and how she was sure they'd make it home.
I mean, it just illustrates the key theme of the Ignition saga where things are no longer black and white like they were on Mata Nui, and where victory isn't a happy ever after. There's no magical 11th hour resurrection here.
“Sometimes a hero has to do something else besides beat the villains and come home covered in glory. Sometimes, he has to make a sacrifice so that a lot of people — people he’s never even met, and who don’t know his name — can live.”
It's such a beautiful scene and it's a testament to Greg that his writing manages to bring me to tears with just this short passage. He had a tendency to focus a bit too much on making things 'cool' and exciting, but the other side of that coin was he was very good at adding drama. I wish Bionicle had more quiet moments like it does in Downfall, because both this scene and Matoro's sacrifice are so poignant. (I call Matoro's sacrifice a quiet moment because, despite the rush leading up to it, everything slows down and it's just Matoro, the Ignika and his thoughts)
#bionicle#This is why I think 2007 was my favourite part of Bionicle#it felt the most mature and complex in its ideas#sometimes it got a bit too gritty but it was more hauntingly dark than the '06 storyline with its attempts to be punky or whatever#Also I think the sets were good#with better variety than '06 but taking the good parts of their design#just the cordak blasters were a terrible launcher#and obviously the lime green joints#funnily enough I don't think my Hahli's joints ever broke but the connector for one of her wings did

spectragus dont get enough credit for being a sun and moon ship but like. destructive sun and moon ship. sun and moon ship but they're the forces of nature the sun and moon actually are. the sun is harsh and relentless and unpredictable in its evil but also it's kindness, the moon is sharp and cold and cruel, a harsh light that doesn't allow you peace, but can also guide you, a light in the darkness. even on nights with a new moon, with no light in the sky, the moon is always reflecting the sun, and it'll be that way until they come to their end.

the epic highs and lows of trying to read an ongoing shounen manga
#for me it uh. tends to have more epic lows than epic highs. im very unlucky with shounen#occasionally a few years after something i start reading it'll turn out to be good#but any time i follow something from the beginning it starts getting. worse#is it me? am i doing this? dont tell me to read your favourite shounen i'll turn it bad#did i ever mention that one manga. the moon is beautiful but first die#a mouthful of a title. it started kinda goofy but i really adored the main character for some reason#im still a bit attached to him. he cleans so well that he got the magic power to see real good. and now he can matrix bullet time#hes just like me for reeeeeeeaaaal hflkanjvdkfljfds but yeah that manga was. weird but fun BUT THEN#it got so wack you guys you dont understand. the first like one or two volumes? fun#everything else? god knows JHKFDJFDK i still read it all tho. i was invested in my guy with seeing real good powers#and im sorry to say. unfortunately it seems. a certain manga with a big tv adaptation that is pronounced oh she no co#my curse. its started. although that ones very much a epic high and epic low situation like itll be so so wack one minute#and suddenly get good again and then plummet back down HFKJDSBHJds we will see how it goes on#i started getting annoyed with the writing after the stageplay arc because they kept like. time skipping over so much#which i thought was a bit of a waste because there was a lot of interesting potential in a lot of the showbiz storylines. but we shall see#thats not shounen tho thats seinen but my curse applies to some seinen too LOL but most seinen i read is already finished#and shoujosei is spared from my curse. i think just because most i have the opportunity to read in english just tends to not#be drawn out or have weird scheduling things messing with the pacing. are there any weekly shoujosei magazines out there#i dont think weekly manga is good. for a lot of reasons mostly the mangakas health but also i find more weekly stuff i read#that isnt like. 4koma stuff suffers in its pacing a LOT. but again that might be my curse. the second i lay my eyes on it. the curse#(sorry ive been catching up on a lot of manga recently LOL ur getting my manga thoughts now)

im going to sleep here in a bit but i just like. started thinking about outer wilds
#wind howls#you dont understand the grip this game has on me. it has all the very specific bits that i adore in a video game#the lore ? phenomenal. the gameplay ? fucking fantastic. it has 6 directional movement what with the spaceship but#it doesnt have any like. actual frame perfect timing necessities at all#no quick time event. it is a breeze to play through and doesnt require needing to be precise down to a milimeter#the art and design and everything ? wonderful. it goes against so many regular 3d video game rules in order to work#but it DOES. and it has a team of such loving devs who put in their absolute everything into this game#and probably some of the most kind and fun fans ive ever seen. since its a game that you advance by learning abt the world-#spoilers can completely ruin everything. but ive very rarely if at all seen fans try to ruin the experience for anyone else#its a game that is asking you to fall in love with the world its set in and my god does it do such a good job of doing that#sorry . i remembered that my boyfriend said he might play it this summer while i watch him nd it is one of the things i look forward 2 most#im not fuckin kidding when i say that it my favourite game in the whole wide world. if anyone reading this plays it please talk 2 me abt it#(or maybe dont. im so so insane about this game but i promise its for a reason i promise its good)

I, a person who knows barely the basics of pokemon information and has not played pokemon go since the year it came out, has made an interesting decision regarding the next group in the chatfic

the thing abt got7 songs is that they are not necessarily Good Music per se but then jinyoung has a verse and u can literally feel the stress falling out of ur body like someone poked a hole into a sandbag
#still one of my favourite voices ever. its not even anything super special but it is so so nice to listen to hes got that warm humming tone#finally taking the time to sit down and listen to winter heptagon in full and i will be so honest . theyve had albums ive liked more#but i just . really like that they keep committing to each other again and again despite everyone being busy w their solo careers#and their two albums since they got out from jype have felt a bit less like Group Songs and more like everyone contributing#a song to the pool that they then all perform tgt bc u can always tell so clearly who wrote what which i find v cool and fun!#like its a v normal thing for any band to do in their development i think but it is rarer to see kpop groups ever reach that point#just simply bc the system they exist in isnt really built like that so i always find it super interesting to see what happens when artists#break out of that and start doing their own thing independently like got7 are doing now but also e.g. dawn after leaving pentagon#u could argue woodz also falls into that category but imo hes always existed w one foot outside of the strict kpop scene#ever since he went solo in 2018 bc he never really stopped doing indie collabs w ppl like colde gemini or jamie#even tho ofc the x1 era was Peak Kpop Boygroup#but still. as a soloist he occupies a really fun space esp now that hes left yehua#i always joke that woodz is actually a band bc seungyoun writes almost all of his songs w nathan and h0h0 and almost always#has h0h0 on guitar plus he really moved toward Real Instruments w his last albums and away from using like. tin instruments if u will#anyway. this was a long detour just to say i truly will always be ahgase 💚 i missed them :)
