Something something forget about love and brotherhood for a minute to consider that to a degree Obi Wan represents Anakin’s conscience, and he makes only a cursory attempt to ask him to join him in the dark because his faith in Obi Wan as his jedi master who is “as wise as master yoda and as powerful as master windu” to uphold the ideals of a jedi is absolute, and he was counting on him dying from order 66, he marched on the temple in the belief that his conscience could not come for him, so when Padme reveals Obi Wan is alive he panics, because Obi Wan was the only one who be his reckoning. Or maybe I could use the terms Id for Padme and super-ego for Obi Wan, and then there is Luke- Luke who is Padme’s heir and also Obi Wan’s jedi heir, coming together into the roles of both, the ego, the id, the conscience, son and jedi at once

Rise of Skywalker
Darth Vader x Ex-Padawan Reader
Reader gets captured by her former master. Things don't go as expected as they hash out old feelings.
Warnings: not gonna lie it's really dark in the beginning, Anakin redemption, hurt comfort, good after care, CNC, Rape, Dom Vader, he thinks it's her pulling him into it but it's really the force forcing them together, it's complicated and dark, but feelings confession, part of a larger series, vaginal sex, blow jobs, orgasms, I've never written anything like this before so hopefully it's alright.
Chapter One: Revenge
It was beyond stupid to stay on the ship when they were being boarded by Imperial soldiers. You should try to escape on one of the fighters. Deep down you knew it was too late for that. If you were in your own ship it would have been possible. Your shoulders tensed as the Imperial ship came closer, you recognized a Force signature you’d certainly wanted to avoid. It wasn’t quite the same as it had been when he was a Jedi, it was twisted but still somehow him. You handed the ship over to someone else and grabbed your bag.
You never got the chance to go up against your former master. Something that Obi-Wan had said you should feel grateful for. He knew the two of you had more going on than what was appropriate for a Master-Padawan bond. To fight against someone you love, well, Obi-Wan still wasn't the same man. He was empty, a shell of what he once was.
You felt disgusted with yourself. You wanted to hurt him, knowing whatever damage you did would only be a fraction of the pain he had caused you. You wondered when this life would ever leave you behind.
His presence moved through the ship and you were sure that the plans beamed to them were going to be discovered. Another failed attempt. You hadn't been aware of their plan when you had agreed to pilot the ship. It was supposed to be a diplomatic mission.
“Just let him take me.” You had told the rebel leader. Her face pinched in annoyance.
“You do not understand what he’s capable of -” She started but you cut her off.
“No, you don’t understand now fuck off.” You snapped at her, she felt guilty that someone innocent would be sacrificed for her plan. You moved towards the landing bay. You turned the corner in the final hallway, smoke billowing everywhere from the blasters having been fired. He stood tall at the end of the hall. His features were masked but his presence was shaken by your gaze.
“Take her to the detention block.” When he finally spoke his voice was metallic and dark. Storm troopers flooded towards you and you went with them gracefully. You wanted to draw them off the ship and give these idiots a chance.
They checked you over once they got you into the cell. They took your bag, lightsaber, and blaster. You were truly a prisoner. Laying down the sleeping platform you tried to rest.
Meditation was never your favorite thing, but you knew that whatever happened next you would need your strength. Your mind went the same way it always did when trying to mediate. Memories flooded you and your heart clenched tightly, but as it had been for so many years, there was no Obi-Wan to scold you and put you on the right path. No Anakin laughing at you. Just pain and an embarrassing amount of longing.
The Force seemed stronger around you than normal, maybe this was the path it wanted you to take. You tried to manipulate it but it wasn't interested in letting you be in control, it was pulling you and weather you liked it or not you were on this ride.
The silence was a welcome change, your life had become very complicated recently with trade route disputes and the rebels constantly trying to recruit you.
You thought about the last time you saw Anakin. Rage flared through you and you wondered when that wound would ever heal. It festered inside you. You could push it down, keep busy, but if he was ever brought up you would get sick almost immediately. He’d pushed you away. Sent you away from The Order and The War only to blow himself up and take the Jedi with him. You did come across the full prophecy years later while on a side quest in the Dagobah system. Anakin didn’t choose to become a Sith, at the core of his creation he was a Sith. Your stomach twisted painfully. This information had haunted you for years. Did this excuse him? Did it mean he was evil the whole time? Did he choose this life over you or did he have a choice at all?
You felt his darkness prodding at your mind. You kept yourself shut down tight, no way you were letting him in. A com chimed and his voice echoed in your cell.
“It seems you have something I want.” He spoke slowly. “Go to the ship's lower quarters.” The door slid open and you sighed. You moved through the seemingly empty hallways. You followed the trail he set for you in the force. Doors sprang open and eventually, you knew you were in his quarters. The air was different and the lights were dimmed. You moved into the space and decided it felt suffocating. Artifacts were displayed throughout the room and a desk near the window was covered in the contents of your bag. He had carefully laid out every single item. Even the charm he had carved you all those years ago was lying amongst medical supplies and various books. In the center of the room was a large orb, and in the center a large throne-like chair. The rest of the room went to the right and was obscured from your view.
Once satisfied with your observation of the room you finally dragged your attention to the masked figure sitting on his throne.
“You called?” You said calmly. His gaze was hidden in his mask but you could feel it resting heavily against your skin.
“How have you been?” He asked in a dead voice. The sound of it was created to frighten people, it was nothing like Anakin's voice. You cocked an eyebrow at him and moved closer. “It’s not like you to be captured so easily.”
“You’ll have to excuse me, I never finished my training.” You said hoping it bothered him. You tried not to show him any emotion knowing it would only delight him. You looked out the window.
“I thought maybe you had come to me for that reason.” He said and you snapped your head to him.
“I’d die first.” The words were coated in venom. You wanted to fight him. He made an exasperated noise that reminded you of who he used to be.
“Fuck me.” You knew how the words were intended but the suite spoke them as a request rather than a whisper under his breath.
“Maybe I will.” You snapped back. It was an overused joke, said hundreds of times all those years ago. But this wasn't your Master, this monster before you was a stranger. He looked at you for a moment longer and you hated how hard your heart was hammering. You were waiting for his attack. Your mind had half a hold on your lightsaber across the room. The force was vibrating through you while also being completely resistant to your request.
His large gloved hands moved to the sides of his sleek black helmet. The sound of air escaping sounded and he pulled the top half off. Your hand immediately reached towards him before you dropped it at your side. The state of his skin made you want to throw up. It was badly damaged, but it looked fresh. As if he had just fallen into lava yesterday. He took the bottom half of his mask off. Then he worked on unfastening his top.
“What are you doing?” You said in a high-pitched tone. You wanted him to cover himself, you didn't want your heart to reach out to his obvious suffering. You didn't want him to have Anakin’s features.
“Can’t fuck you in all this.” There was a collar around his neck that kept his voice the same. His eyes were red and they burned into your skin. You realize then that he’s serious. Panic washes through you, but there isn't a clear escape. Your mind is still preoccupied by the sight of his damaged flesh and prosthetic arms. They were metal, just like his hand used to be. You assumed he would have had them replaced with the new kind of prosthetics. He kept his gloves on and motioned for you to come up the steps to him.
“Don't lie to me Padawan.” He growled. “I can feel you pulling at me in the force.” His voice made you shiver but it wasn't you pulling on the force, the force was pulling you.
You resisted then felt his force presence grip you. Your clothes started to move off of you and you tried to fight him.
“Come to me.” He said and you resisted now almost naked. His eyes feasted on your form and you didn't know how but you were going to make him pay for this. While your mind was frozen with rage and fear your body was more than happy to fall into him. He pulled you across the room till you were in front of him. It was hardly fair to be naked and displayed in this way. He’d stripped you down and was now enjoying the sight of you, sitting comfortably on his throne, legs spread. No way he would actually force you into this, but then again there was a running list of things you thought he would never do. Unfortunately, when he checked an item off of it he tended to do it with as much dramatic flare as possible.
“I won't.” You said firmly.
“You will.” His voice was tauntingly calm. He pulled you onto his lap and you tried to break his grasp on you. He had undone his pants and you realized this was actually happening. “You have something I want.” He whispered causing your body to shudder. To your horror he gripped your hips tightly. You felt your body coming undone in his presence. The force was useless, it was pulling you to together. You could feel it now, he could bend it but he couldn't control it entirely. It pulsed around you pushing you further towards him, preparing your body.
The head of his cock pressed against your entrance you expected it to hurt. His goal was to hurt you, to punish you, and probably get you to spill about rebel plans. This was a torture session. But as he pulled your hips down you could feel how wet you were. Your body opened to him easily. The feeling of being stretched out for the first time in years overwhelmed you. His eyes are red so deeply clouded with rage, something inside you broke as he bottomed out. You wanted to see his brown eyes. You wanted him to be Anakin. Your face flushed at this realization and he groaned.
“Even now you still need me” The words turned your face red with embarrassment and shame. They cut you. But there was no anger in your body, only need.
Vader settled himself in your tight cunt.
“Move.” His deep voice commanded. It was beyond cruel to force you down on his cock only to make you fuck yourself on it. Your hips moved as if working on muscle memory. You moved slowly and every time you bottomed out on him he moaned. The sound made you pick your hips up and do it again. You would probably do it forever if it meant feeling this again. The pleasure he gave made your mind hazy.
He did something unexpected, his hands were large enough that he could move his grip slightly and brush your clit with is thumb. Just then he used his other hand to push your hips down. His cock reached deeper inside you and you felt it swell within your tight walls.
“Show me how bad you’ve missed me.” He commanded and your body responded to his touch. You came, walls collapsing against his cock, you felt his seed flood inside you. Your body helped him off, just like it used to. You felt your defenses fall, as your forehead pressed against his shoulder. He moved within your mind pulling from you your worst memories. He searched for something inside you and his grip on your mind hurt. Years flashed before your eyes and he gripped your hips tighter and tighter as you relieved your worst moments. He growled as every part of you was in submission to him once again.
He picked you up and pulled you down. He was using your body now, and you hated how easy it was for him. You did nothing while he lifted you and slammed you down on his cock. The pressure started to build inside you again.
“Cum.” He commanded and you felt your orgasm grip you tightly. Your pussy choked on his cock, and he continued to move you through it. Once again he filled you. You were too far gone to push back into his mind but you could feel a certain ache in his chest. One that belonged to you. Tears formed in your eyes as you felt his emotions but not his thoughts.
You felt his force presence wrap around your body. You laid back in it like it was bathwater letting it caress you. You were fully on display and watched his eyes devour where your pussy swallowed his cock. He loved how you were on display for him, he loved pleasuring you. His feelings for you were deep and consuming. This thumb found your clit and you bucked your hips against him. He remained seated moving in and out of you slowly, eyes focused on how his cock fit inside you.
Eventually, he stood. He set a ruthless pace, hammering into you. But in your half conscious state, you could feel that every time his emotions peaked into rage it would quickly turn to something warmer. He hated that he couldn't hate you, that he couldn't hurt you. That as badly as you needed him, he needed you even more. While his grip and pace were rough, his force presence was soft. Touching you in the ways he missed being able to touch you. He was touch starved and wild with your body.
You felt his need for you and choked on it as if it were a hand on your throat. You felt hot tears stream down your cheeks as those deepest needs inside of you were finally held. You finally felt at home.
“Master.” The word rolled off your lips and then you couldn't stop saying it. You said it as if his old title could somehow bring him back to you. His voice was deep and he moaned loudly at your acceptance of him. He attacked your clit and your body was pulled under fully. Your vision was gone, and your ability to breathe was gone. You felt like you were going to die, maybe that was his desired outcome. You came for what felt like an eternity as he pumped more and more of his cum inside you. Finally, it’s grip on you ended and you felt him pull your limp body to his chest. His arms wrapped around you, the cold metal reminding you of what had been lost forever.
He held you tightly and you realized you were still crying. He tried to soothe you but the pain was inescapable. It took you a long moment to understand what it was. You weren't grieving him, you were feeling him. The pain coursing through his body at this moment. It ran the length of his spine and radiated out to what amount of limbs he had left.
Take this off - you demanded through the newly established force bond. You felt him hesitate before he realized he was hurting you too.
I don’t know if I can - He tried to unclasp it, only then did you feel his fear and then acceptance. It could be the only thing keeping him breathing, and yet he undid it regardless. Even if he died he had gotten his last wish. He held his breath and took the collar off. Breathing was challenging but not impossible without it. The pain diminished and you took a deep breath.
You took the collar from him and examined it, you quickly dropped it to the floor in horror. It had been designed to attach into his spinal column, disrupting his peripheral nervous system. The radiating pain finally stopped. Your fingers ran across the raw skin of his neck and you shuddered at his increased pain. You could also feel his pleasure, so starved for touch that he could adore your touches even if they caused him tremendous pain.
Take it all off - you urged him knowing it was the cause of most of his pain. He reluctantly pulled out of you and placed you on the edge of his desk. He slowly removed the rest of the suit and you felt him get lighter. You took in the full extent of the damage. The suit had been designed to dig into his flesh causing it not to heal properly. Your mind was still hazy but you reached out with the force and pulled a container of healing salve. It was so easy to feel and use the force now it felt strange to you.
No - He realized what it was the moment it landed in your hands. He picked you up quickly and carried you to the bathroom. He placed you down on the countertop and got a warm washcloth. He cleaned you carefully, then began to wash the rest of your body. His fingers run over the bruises forming on your skin. You could feel his distaste for the new scars that had been etched into your skin since the last time he saw you naked.
“I’m sorry.” He said, his voice thick with emotion. His voice. Anakin’s voice without that stupid collar. You squeezed your eyes shut feeling it run through you. He sighed feeling your chest split open for him.
He carried you once again through the space into a smaller room. It had a large bed covered with black silky sheets. He set you down in it carefully. He could feel your arousal at his tenderness and he planned to fully enjoy it despite having just washed you.
You used the force to pull him down this time. You got him on his back and straddled him. You could feel his disapproval but didn’t care. You grabbed the container of salve and started with the deep gashes in his neck. He let out a sound of relief and you covered his scalp and face before moving to his torso.
You felt him let his guard down completely, you had free run of his thoughts as you treated him.
“Anakin.” You had never used his first name and it felt strange in your mouth. His body tensed but you continued. “I don't blame you.”
The words may have been more for yourself than him. His hands gripped the sheets and you could feel how much pain he was in at your words. But when you could feel someone's heart it made sense. You had known of the prophecy in it’s entirety for around three years, and only now could you feel what they actually ment. The years of slavery, The Order - you felt his last interaction with you. How he had insisted you leave The Order. Leave the war. Only now did you understand what he was trying to protect you from. The loss of your companionship only made it easier for Palpatine to pull him in. All he wanted was order and control. After being in pain his whole life it made sense. Palpatine’s warning to him that you would die in battle rang through his mind and it was your turn to grip the sheets and clench your jaw. His last fight with Obi-Wan, how much he hated himself for it. Dark memories of his surgery came in bursts and it felt as if you were experiencing it with him. Every memory after that was coated in a thick syrup of pain. Palpatine's rage and manipulation are so clear to you now, the way he regularly lashed out and tortured Anakin.
The moment Palpatine told him you were dead. The feelings he felt in that moment hit you. He had really thought you were gone all this time.
I didn't intend to show you that - he sounded deeply uncomfortable.
I guess you had something I wanted as well - Before he had a chance to react and ruin all the carefully placed salve, you got down between his legs. You felt his vulnerability and knew that it was likely to snap sending him back into his cave, further into the Sith. You didn't fancy having to fight him after your muscles felt like jello. You closed your mouth around him wondering how you used to do this. It was sloppy and uncoordinated as you tried to remember how to get him down your throat.
His mind moved back to the first time you had ever done this. You re-lived your shared memory. It was late and you had been training well passed when you should have been. After years of unresolved tension, when you had him pinned on his back, you moved into the same position you were now. You’d read your first romance novel and couldn’t stop reimagining the scenes with your master. You begged him to let you do it. You wanted to please him and feel pleasure so badly it was driving you mad. He’d let you, but only for a moment before forcing you on your back and eating you out. He hated taking from you if he wasn't also giving you pleasure.
“Tell me I was the last.” He said before groaning deeply as you moved him passed your gag reflex.
Last, and only - You hated yourself for it, but his abandonment had twisted you up so badly you could never trust another to get that close again. You felt him slip into ecstasy at this revelation. Quickly he pulled you hair and dragged you off his cock with a pop as his head slid from your lips. He pulled you up onto the bed with the force and you landed on the soft sheets. The salve was dry and you thanked him for waiting.
He moved inside you quickly then stopped. The feelings vibrating through the both of you were so strong. There was still the towering darkness in him that you left untouched. You had some of Anakin back, that would have to be enough for tonight.
Search your feelings - he gasped. You did and could feel it pulse through you. The force was moving in both of you in a way you had never felt before. It was harsh and raw, it was something bigger than the living force. Something deeper. The realization of what it was choked you.
Love - Not something Sith did. Not like this. Not pure like what was running through the both of you. He fucked you slowly, and you felt his surprise when you kissed him. He moved in and out of you with a tenderness that brought you over the edge in a different way. Something had permanently bonded between the two of you. Separating was impossible, but which side would win out. Would you be Sith? Or Jedi? Or your preferred option of nothing.
This orgasm left you drained. There was nothing more you could do tonight. Your mind was gone, vision blurry with sleep. Your eyelids became heavy and you felt him get up. He came back with a damp cloth and cleaned you once more. You could feel his fascination with your skin and wanted to ask him about it but couldn't.
________
Vader had pushed you too far. Your mind collapsed from all the feelings and sleep took you. He held you tightly in his arms only drifting off for an hour at a time. He would wake up startled having to check that you were still real. Then he’d have to check your pulse, feeling it with the force until he would drift off again. The force was taking him on a different path. One he had given up on long ago. But he knew that you were stubborn, he had his way with you last night but tomorrow would be a different story. You would either go with him back into the light or leave him. The thought of losing this power crushed him, but knowing he could be loved again would be worth it.
A feeling overtook him and he realized he would do anything to live within your love for him. The way he had treated you was unforgivable, and yet you had so carefully tended to his wounds. Even after he had just inflicted wounds on your own flesh you still cared for his. He pulled the pot of salve from his nightstand and carefully applied the last of it to the deep purple bruises he had left on your flesh.
He felt sick. He went to the dark side to end the war and prevent your death. He had ensured that you were safely away before crossing over. Palpatine had told him you were dead. He’d believed it, unable to feel you in the force till that ship had come into range. He wanted you to be untouched by his evil and last night he had all but raped you with it. Forcing your body to betray your mind. If he could get up without waking you he would have gone to the bathroom and vomited. The pain he felt was so great he felt you jump in his arms. Your head lifted from his shoulder. Your hair was a mess and your eyes could barely open, puffy from crying.
Does it hurt - I can put on more salve. - Your words were hazy even in the bond.
Go to sleep - he pushed away his frightening thoughts and tried to be calm to sooth you. Your head fell against his shoulder and you were out cold again.
He didn't have to do right by The Order, Obi-Wan, or Palpatine. He just needed to do right by you with what time he had left. The force was strong with you and your choices, so he made the choice to follow

It's those attachments, baby! He asks people to join him in darkness because he can't bear to let go of them even when he's hurting them, even when they want to walk away, even after he's betrayed them and tried to kill them. He also does desperately want to prove that some part of what he's done was worth it, he's not capable of admitting that he did anything wrong and he keeps trying to find reasons for why he was not the villain in this whole scenario even though a part of him is obviously perfectly aware that he is.
Each of these people represents some part of him that he has a complicated relationship with.
Padme is the person he did all of this FOR, the person he cannot live without, the representation of his version of love and family. He says in TCW that the way he feels about Padme is more important than any ideal. Padme represents the perfect family life he so desperately wants, the love he believes he is owed by right. Padme is a fantasy to Anakin, one he's never been able to let go of, and so he asks her to join him because he cannot conceive of living without the way she makes him feel.
Obi-Wan and Ahsoka both represent his life as a Jedi and the heroic path he believed he was destined for that he could never walk away from even when the life of a Jedi didn't make him happy. Anakin wants to be a hero and HAS to convince himself he's a hero, but once he's murdered all of the Jedi and betrayed Obi-Wan and Ahsoka, he has to convince himself that THEY were the ones in the wrong instead of him. He was a hero as a Jedi but he was also a hero for betraying them all. But he also is attached to Obi-Wan as a parental figure, someone whose approval he deeply desires in order to validate the way he sees himself, and so he wants to both destroy Obi-Wan and cling to him at the same time.
He doesn't have quite the same relationship with Ahsoka. Part of that might be due to how she came into his life a little later, part of it might be because she left him first, but he doesn't depend on her approval to shape the way he sees himself. She is a part of his past that he cannot acknowledge anymore, and thus she just has to be destroyed rather than recruited. He's not QUITE as attached to her or his relationship with her as he is with Padme and Obi-Wan.
And Luke of course primarily just represents the same thing Padme does. Luke is a last piece of her, one he'd thought lost forever, so of course he has to try to get Luke to join him and validate his choices in a way Padme never did.
Anakin's relationships with people is often just as an extension of himself. He loves them because of what they represent about who he sees himself to be and how that makes him feel. A heroic Jedi, a leading man, a perfect husband, a good father, etc. He asks them to join him based on what he thinks that will say about himself.

man, you ever think about how christopher lee's two '00s movie villains roles are basically the same beyond just both being played by christopher lee? more specifically dooku is similar to movie saruman whose origins from the text are never really hinted at, so to the general audience he was just a wizard like how the jedi/sith are space wizards. pj even throws in a magic wizard fight between saruman and gandalf not unlike dooku using his force powers to fight jedi. so it's like however lucas may have been influenced by old man wizards in lotr, pj was also making his christopher lee baddie more like a sw baddie. except the lee connection must have just been coincidence since this was all being done around the same time, right? then there's all the non-action char stuff. both saruman and dooku delude themselves and try to fool others about their intentions only being for a higher purpose, with dooku's political idealism and saruman thinking his power made him more fit to rule for everyone's good than any mortal men. both try to use their reasoning to recruit peers from their former order, trying the carrot before the stick, dooku with obi-wan as a prisoner on geonosis only turning him over to be executed when he rejects the offer and saruman with gandalf at orthanc taking him prisoner after gandalf refused him. dooku got in too deep to realize that becoming a sith and starting a galaxy-wide civil war are not really how you solve corruption and create a better gov't, just as saruman didn't listen to gandalf's obvious warning that sauron was the only lord of the one ring and trying to replace him would lead nowhere good. dooku and saruman both built secret armies, with dooku doing it double building up droid forces the jedi didn't know about until it was too late while secretly arranging an army for the other side too, an army of clones artificially made and grown without mothers just like movie!saruman's uruks were artificially grown out of fucking mud or something without any mothers. saruman gambled and lost by trying to ally with sauron and find the ring for himself and dooku played himself acting like the sith rule of two only went one way to favor the apprentice, never thinking his master might try to replace him, even knowing how easily maul had been discarded. then both of these proud, old, snobby men get blindsided by undignified deaths due to betrayal, dooku losing his head when palps told anakin to kill tho dooku actually thought they were recruiting anakin to ally with both of them, and saruman getting defeated by ents and hobbits-ents avenging their losses as anakin avenged his arm-and then stabbed by wormtongue, who was his most loyal servant until being kicked too much. dooku was replaced by anakin who did eventually after about ~20 years destroy the sith and saruman was replaced as the white wizard by gandalf whose efforts did eventually result in that one ring getting destroyed. it's like...i guess my point is...that just like saruman was a poser ringlord who could only try to imitate sauron, it seems dooku the corrupted space wizard could only copy his middle earth wizard doppleganger, yknow what i mean, man?

Deflect [5.3k] by @fanfic-obsessed
Later review of his footage would reveal that he protected his general with his general’s lightsaber for almost two hours before the battle was won. He never discussed how the lightsaber appeared to be helping him at many points, because that would just be weird. Right?

Did Cody need to be up at 3:50am? No, not technically. But he had graciously offered to take Fox’s Sunday morning shifts at their Uncle’s bakery. Donning Fox's red apron as part of a decade long joke, he works at the bakery as he attempts to figure out what he wants from life. The first time Obi-wan shows up to dinner at Anakin's after moving back to Coruscant, he arrives twenty minutes late with the bag of rolls in hand, and unable to stop thinking about the baker in the red apron. Fox, he's pretty sure the name tag said. Cody and Obi-wan are both just trying to figure out what it means to start over and make your own happiness.
endings mean beginnings [8.3k] by @inkformyblood
A misplaced delivery leads Cody to find more than he ever would have expected after returning to help run the family bakery.
Joys Found and Made [8.2k] by @thehatphotograph
Cody loves his work at the bakery, and he’s grateful to have it, but when he looks at the chair at the other side of his kitchen table he can’t help but feel it’s all a little bit… empty. When he meets Obi-Wan, Cody realizes there might be something to fill his days with other than bagels and babka.

All things considered, then, it's an understatement of epic proportions to say that Ben isn't expecting to be woken up in the middle of the night by Cody of all people holding a gun to his head and a finger to his own lips. Ben has been keeping himself to himself since the violent loss of his brother and sister-in-law on outbreak day, but when his old friend Cody shows up to recruit him for the Fireflies, his life changes once again... "You can’t fight, Obi-Wan,” Cody cut off the argument already forming. He dragged Obi-Wan closer and rested their foreheads together. “Get a head start. I’ll find you afterwards. I promise.” “Seal it with a kiss?” Obi-Wan pleaded, fingers digging into Cody’s biceps.

Hold Fast [10k] by @bitwhizzle
Three years ago, Cody ran away from his feelings instead of confronting them. When a Spec Ops mission teams him with Ben Kenobi again, it's finally time to have a chat. During a heated firefight. As one does.
Got Your Back [7.7k] by @crownprincecody
"It could be worse, Lieutenant," Obi-Wan reminded him lightly. "At least our distraction worked." Cody's glower was entirely deserved and predictable. "Sir," he began, tone implying the words 'with all due respect' when there was none in the offing. "Our plan was batshit crazy and left us running on foot from our exploded, liberated ATV." Cody didn't need to look pointedly at the faint plume of smoke still visible at their six for Obi-Wan to understand. That was entirely true. But it had worked. And, given the way the mission had been a SNAFU from the start, Obi-Wan was keen on taking the win. "It worked, Cody," Obi-Wan said again, tone more gentle. There were no words to emphasise how much Cody hated it when their plans went off the rails. It's only supposed to be a milk run. In and out and no real trouble. It's why only two members of the legendary 212th Battalion are sent in. Pity life is never that simple.

Are You Going to Sundari's Market? [5k] by @nerjetii
At the tender age of fifteen, Kote knew Obi-Wan would be the love of his life. Alright, to be perfectly honest, he’d known that the moment the paper butterfly had come to rest on the tip of his nose. Age had only taken the tender feeling that had curled around his heart and warmed it, and turned it into a fire that smoldered through the year to become a raging fire when Market Day came around. Five Times Obi-Wan and Kote meet at the Market Day in Sundari.

You Have Only Just Begun [Art] by @jaegrdrifts
as lanterns rising to the stars [28.6k] by vhetin
Obi-Wan knew the mission was going to be more than a few days, but more than a few days in Sundari was perfectly fine. It's everything else that happens that makes him take up praying to the Force and anyone who might listen. Luckily for him, someone is listening.
and then there was hope [42k] [WIP] by @reginastellaris
Years after the Jedi Order was forced into hiding, Emperor Sheev Palpatine rules over the lands with an iron fist. Close to extinction, the Order sends Obi-Wan Kenobi on a mission to destroy the Emperor and end his terrible reign once and for all. He takes with him the Order’s last pure kyber crystal, a tool able to grow stronger the more hope it is around to vanquish Darth Sidious. Obi-Wan knows it’s a suicide mission, but he’s made his peace with that. Until a group of Sith chase Obi-Wan into a Mandalorian temple where he meets the angel Cody, son of the God of War, Jango, who’s been watching Obi-Wan since he’s been thirteen. Together, they go on a journey to stop Sidious’ tyranny and find Cody’s brother, Rex, who disappeared five years ago. Will they be able to fulfill Obi-Wan’s mission? Or will they die trying?

Tbf, I think that the council should have told Obi-Wan they were putting Anakin in the creche first regardless of whether Obi-Wan was stubborn about it or not. Like the kid is still getting trained, you'll still get to be his master, but both of you get to take a breather for a few years. Low stakes interactions where Obi-Wan visits him but they're not being force to cohabitate and could heal a bit before Obi-Wan is tasked with the health and safety of a tiny child. Getting thrown smack into a padawan-ship was probably pretty isolating too, and Anakin was a social butterfly with a lot of friends on Tatooine so he was probably lonely and I bet the other kids were unsure what do to with him, another thing the creche would have fixed. Plus Palpatine probably couldn't request an initiate come visit with him, especially without supervision, the same way he could a padawan. So Anakin at least could have a few years to get his bearings without poison spilling into his brain. I'm not even entirely sure why they didn't, unless maybe Obi-Wan was threatening to leave or something?
Actually, thinking about it, I think I'm going to put most of the blame on this entire mess on the council. As much as I like them, they seriously dropped the ball. Qui-Gon failed to explain his intentions, but before that he did explain that they found Anakin, a very powerful force sensitive child, in the same town as someone who he believed was a sith but who was clearly at the very least a darksider, who also attacked them as they tried to leave with Anakin. Regardless of any reservations about Anakin's age, that's a direct threat to Anakin's safety, and they had no way to know that Maul wasn't directly targeting Anakin for recruitment. Qui-Gon shouldn't have had to say he'd train Anakin to try to force their hand, they should have just said they'd train Anakin, if only for his protection. Heck, at the very, very least they shouldn't have let Anakin leave the temple at all until they could be sure Maul hadn't followed them and a proper relocation effort could be made. So many things could have gone better if everyone had just simmered down and took the time to actually think things through right at the start of it all. 😩
You are so right, anon, I'm clapping during all of this ✨
Honestly the introduction of Anakin to the Jedi is one of the - many - canon events that I don't even know what to do with. Like. like. I write Shisui-centric, I know something about having to rationalize the ridiculously bad (his eye went WHERE), but the whole attitude of the Jedi council to Anakin is just.... 🤦🤷
I'm pro Jedi, I'm very much in the camp of Love Is Not Attachment etc when it comes to the Jedi mandate etc, but Christ alive why the heck don't they wanna take in an ex slave, let alone one as strong as Anakin. Ohhhh his future is clouded. HE WAS A SLAVE FIVE MINUTES AGO. the jedi are supposed to be freeing people and shit... Let's enfranchise the little tyke?! Vaccinations, a health check, THERAPY-! Ohhhh a powerful darksider just happened to find you 10 mins after you found this kid with the force sensitivity of a nuke? COINCIDENCE, TOSS HIM ON THE NEXT BUS SHUTTLE.
I think maturity is really when you can call your favs out without getting butt hurt. I love the Jedi. This scene with the council? So stupid it hurts.
Qui-Gon: this child has no father so must be the prophesized Chosen One!
What Mace should've said: idgaf about your astrology shit, space monks look after all who need them, get this kid a juice box and a doctor

The Real Issue with Luke in TLJ
I don't want to get marked as ~one of those~ Star Wars fans, but I do have an issue with the Sequel films that I think would not have been fixed, even if the films were made to be truly 'good.'
The issue with Luke Skywalker's depiction in TLJ was not that he was depressed, or that he succumbed briefly to the darkside or any of that---been thinking about this one alot and realized that this was never my issue with the character.
My issue was always that they gave up on Luke's goth aesthetic, and had him return to Jedi orthodoxy.
Luke being goth was cool, but also important
In ROTJ, when first released, Luke's cool new black outfit signified a couple of things:
One, it was a representation of his development as a Jedi. Luke had lost a hand in battle, and learned the terrible truth of the father he had in Vader. His outfit not only represented his status as a well trained jedi warrior, but it also represented the impression that darkness had left on Luke. While he was warm and happy with his friends, he was also savvy in the face of danger, and emotional in the face of darkness.
Two, it was part of the larger vibe of that film: which was a darker and more gothic descent into the dark side. ROTJ has a creepy side. Where TESB depicts the force as mysterious and wonderous, ROTJ depicts the force as dualistic, fickle, and dangerous. Palpatine enters the stage as the perfect evil wizard character, showing Luke (and the audience) the effects of mixing the force, desire, and power. Luke's outfit thusly reflects this descent into darkness, and the overall more dark-fantasy tone of the film.
Three, later films and series would add a further context to Luke's outfit: Luke's outfit is not orthodox, even to other Jedi. The Clone Wars, the Jedi Purge, and the years spent under the empire have created a generation of bokken Jedi whose outlook is much, much darker than their predecessors. In a way, many of these jedi survivors seem to live in perpetual mourning, the destruction of the order being the great defining event of their generation.
So Luke's outfit is not just a swanky choice from Hot Topic, but it's a symbol of his jedi journey, and the kind of jedi that he is in comparison to those who came before him.
Obligatory Legends Canon Insert
I promise not to harp on this too long: Legends canon was filled with holes and issues, and overall its probably better that the majority of it is gone---but there were some good points in there that are worth noting:
Luke's Jedi Praxeum in Legends Canon was an extension of Luke's own journey as a Jedi: rather than simply recreating the order as it was, Luke's order recruited padawans who were much like Anakin had been: Older than the old order's standards, brash, adventurous. Luke didn't forbid them from having connections, and partners even. For all the reasons that Anakin betrayed the order of old, Luke's order had learned and adapted, and thrived because of it.
In the past, my favorite comparison used to be that Luke is sort of like the Martin Luther of the Jedi religion: He had found some critical flaws in the religion he was following, and led a reformation which created an essentially new order, wholly separate from the order of Anakin and Obi Wan's day.
The Warrior and Teacher
I don't want to harp too long on "OoOoO Legends Canon did it better" it's done, and all we can do is try to move forward and make future projects good. But that is sort of the crux of my issue.
I could absolutely see a version of events in which Luke's history of fighting, and his close encounters with the darkside lead Luke to become a hardened teacher, who became increasingly merciless to his students as he got older. I can absolutely see how Ben resembling Anakin, and Luke by extension, would get under his skin---and I could be sold on Luke having a moment of weakness, briefly allowing the darkside to guide his actions purely because he had let his guard down.
What I can't get behind is the idea that Luke had listened to his father's story from people like Obi Wan, Yoda, and Ahsoka---all of whom had long reevaluated their beliefs following the Purge---had experienced the darkside for himself, had been trained as one of the bokken Jedi, took all of that experience and learning and returned to the Jedi's flawed orthodoxy.
This comes with a visual cue in TFA and TLJ, being Luke's brown and tan jedi robes in both the present and in the past---but it was also an implication of some of the dialogue in TLJ and in the Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett.
Like, how could he see and hear all of that, but then only learn it once his own order had failed? Maybe that's one of those things where its a complex enough story that it can't be told in reference---I would want to see it directly.
How would I fix this?
5-7 years on from ROTJ, we see Luke is laying the foundation of his own temple, one that he appears to be running entirely on his own, with only some assistance from Ahsoka.
While I am not a big fan of fixing films through context, I would find ways to depict a few pivotal events that would mark Luke's journey:
A reduced version of the Jedi Praxeum which is not a training ground for new jedi, but a sanctuary for jedi survivors. It would have to be within the first 4 years of ROTJ, and given that the Galactic Civil War doesn't end until 5 ABY, it's likely that the first meeting of this praxeum would be to discuss the end of the empire. You could depict the praxeum as being fundamentally broken: Many of the jedi who survived the rise of the empire have ended up as gothy as Luke, Ahsoka, and Baylen---e.i. not truly jedi. With the vast variety of views and attitudes present in the traumatized survivors of the war, Luke and Ahsoka eventually disband the council of the praxeum, and return to the drawing board.
Depict Luke's order as making changes, and learning from the past. Even if it means watching Luke give up his badass goth look, Luke's order needs to be fundamentally different from the jedi who came before---if his order is to be flawed (and it should be) then it needs to be flawed for new reasons. Luke being a perfectionist with a lot of war trauma would be a good well to pull from for that.
The downfall of Luke's order is complicated: It's not that he was an orthodox fool who couldn't learn from the past, it's that his order was flawed for its own reasons, fragile in its infancy, and beset by tragedies on all sides, finally killed by a fearful mistake.
Rey's new order, given her unique upbringing under Luke and with the guidance of Luke's ghost, represent a more perfect expression of his life's work.
This is, for me, the first part in a larger thought I want to write about goth jedi, but its a good start. If I think of anything else, I'll come back and edit or something.

Star Wars celebrity au
Prequel generation: 1950’s
Anakin. Born in Hooverville to a former vaudeville actress in the mid 1930’s. Never knew his biological father. But gained a stepfather and stepbrother in Obi Wan when Shmi married Qui Gon Jinn, a wealthy filmmaker. Originally contracted to his stepdads Jedi Studios but got snatched up by mob owned Sith Pictures. They got him addicted to booze and drugs to cope with the gruelling schedule eventually leading him to fatally injuring his pregnant wife in a car crash at the tail end of the 1950’s. Thought dead by everyone, he was kept in a safe house by his new agent, bruised, bloodied and broken, he lived in shame at what he did, all the while trying to muster up the energy to escape
Padme. Successful musical actress. Known for the “spirited young lady” archetype. Contracted to Jedi Studios. Met Anakin at a chemistry reading before he got recruited by Sith Pictures. They carried on their romance and eventually got married in Las Vegas. Sadly though, when she was eight and a half months pregnant, Anakin drove off the road and into an oil tankard. They were taken to different hospitals. Her twins were delivered under emergency caesarian. Unfortunately she succumbed to her injuries and died a week later
Obi Wan. Anakin’s stepbrother. Older by about ten years. Jazz musician at the popular Cantina Club. Close friend of Padme. Commissioned a lot of scores for Jedi Studios. Repeatedly tried and repeatedly failed to get Anakin out of the ironclad Sith Pictures contract. Was there when the twins were delivered. He made sure they were adopted into good families and went off the grid near Orange County where Luke is raised.
Qui Gon. Director who moonlighted as a talent agent. All of Anakin’s early successes were made possible because of him. Adopted Anakin a few weeks after he married Shmi. Unfortunately he died in the last few weeks of World War Two. His plane went down behind enemy lines and his body was never found. The last movie Obi and Anakin made together was dedicated to him.
Original trilogy generation: 1980’s
Luke. Farm boy. Raised in Orange County. Dreamed of being an actor. Had a celebrity crush on Leia when he was growing up which obviously stopped when they met and found out they were twins. Get a spot at a very run down acting school run by a very prickly and obstinate acting coach. Later realises that his talent lean more in stunt work than outright acting. Becomes a talent manager after his hand is cut off by his father in an accident. Died stopping his psychotic nephew
Leia. Down to earth perfectionist actress. Mostly Tudor centred period dramas as Anne of Cleaves. Although she did win many awards for a celebrated turn as Reagan in a gothic horror version of King Lear. Clear cut case of uptight loves wild when she fell for a roughshod insult comic. Indirectly killed by her psychotic estranged son.
Han. Controversial insult comic. Pokes fun at the rich and famous despite also being rich and famous. Needs to learn how to keep his mouth shut. Owes money to a lot of supper clubs. Became a talent scout later in life. Discovered Rey, Finn and Poe. Just like his wife, he was killed by their psychotic estranged son
Lando. Triple threat. Singer. Boxer. Actor. Mostly known for the second rather than the first or third though. Conman on the side during lulls in offers. Best friend of Han and most often his only defender. The only on out of him, Han, Leia and Luke to survive Ben Solo’s massacre.
Sequel generation: 2010’s
Rey. Orphan. Grew up on the streets of Los Angeles. Discovered by Han as she was busking. Her speciality is stand up comedy. But she’s also a superb actor and stuntwoman. Informally adopted by Han and Leia. Stalked repeatedly by their deranged and psychotic son. Enters a relationship with Finn and Poe later on.
Finn. Orphan. Worked his way up. But ended up contracted to New Sith Productions. Broke contract when he saw the studio head murder a moonlighter. Met Poe during his escape. And Rey soon after. Injured by Han and Leia’s psychotic son in the process of protecting Rey. Gets better. Turns out to have a gift for stand up comedy. Enters a relationship with Poe and Rey later on.
Poe. Stunt driver. Whistleblower. Massive charmer. Hell bent on dismantling New Sith Productions. Has an adorable Pomeranian called BB8. Leia was his acting teacher. Takes it incredibly personally when she’s killed by her own son. Starts his own production company. Enters a relationship with Rey and Finn later on.
Ren. Washed up never been Z list bit actor. Awful. Just. Awful. Takes the entirely wrong message from Anakin’s story and tries to be New Sith Productions leading man. Obsessively stalked Rey. The main reason both his parents and his uncle died. Killed by his own stupidity. He remains completely unclaimed and unmourned.

love the idea of tarkin as a sith ofc but i'm thinking about an au in which he started out as a jedi.
in my jedi!padme x senator!anakin au, i figured that i could make the turn tables even more by having tarkin also be a jedi. his fixation on law and order vs his intense, immense violent urges would make him an insane jedi. like?
and bc anakin wouldn't turn into vader in this au (i could actually perhaps see him as becoming an imperial officer but idk,) (and i don't think padme would turn evil, either,) i figured that tarkin would be the vader fill-in for this au, apprenticeship to palpatine and all. like tarkin is already besties with palpatine, it'd be so easy for palpatine to be like 'hey ;) be my apprentice?'
in this au padme would be force-sensitive, and after being the queen for a little bit, the jedi show up and are like Woah and recruit her then, or maybe during her reign they send her a master so they can train her without forcing her to leave her royal duties. i think obi-wan would be her master in this au, and all the stuff with qui-gon and obi-wan on naboo in tpm would still happen, just with padme being force sensitive instead of anakin. all the stuff on tatooine in tpm probably didn't happen/happen the same way without them.
schmi continues to raise anakin like normal and she marries into the lars family. anakin becomes the senate's representative for tatooine, and padme has to end up protecting him and all that bodyguard stuff and they fall in love and get secret married.
i imagine that because padme is so much more used to the stresses of politics than canon!anakin, thanks to her family and reign as queen, that she wouldn't be as worried about assassination attempts against anakin as regular canon anakin is about padme being in that situation. i think that in and of itself would bother senator!anakin, and drive him to being more evil, but i don't think there would be as many outside forces making padme evil (like i don't think palpatine could manipulate her like he did to canon!anakin) so she would just like. remain a good guy. she would in theory be the chosen one instead of anakin, and then luke being the chosen one after her makes sense. her giving birth to luke would be why she's the chosen one, i guess? i could see padme's death during child-birth filling in for canon!anakin's turn to vader in this au.
i was thinking that having tarkin be a jedi too would make sense in this au. i imagine he probably didn't join until he was a teenager, at least. his family definitely disapproved of it, and might've tried to prevent it. canon!tarkin simultaneously resents and thanks his family for his upbringing. he is the way he is because of them, but he is also the exception to most of the bullshit in their ideology. i think in this au he would be more outwardly contemptuous towards them and his family legacy. canon!tarkin wanted to join the judicial department and handle law and order in the galaxy, but was convinced by palpatine to explore politics.
him being a jedi, a peacekeeper turned warrior during the clone wars, would be so interesting. he'd be insane about it. torturing people and being like 'huh? :^) ofc i didn't kill anybody. i simply insured they got what they deserved! :^)' in this au, i imagine palpatine would instead drive tarkin towards the dark side.
i think tarkin's lightsaber would initially be purple or blue :)
i was trying to figure out who i should make his master and padawan, because he's a bit older, ofc. my brother suggested bail organa as tarkin's padawan and like i'll be insane forever. bail leaving the jedi order to settle down with breha would hurt tarkin A Lot. like? tarkin was never given the option of living a 'normal' life either way. it would bewilder him. kinda similar to anakin feeling at fault for ahsoka leaving the order in canon.

There's a whole backstory to this. Order 66 doesn't happen, Anakin walks the hard path of redemption, Padme reconsiders their relationship and he ends up raising the twins as a single father and most importantly, Cody and Obi Wan have a cottage near a river with frogs in it. Anakin's something of an academic and the twins have recently started refusing to shield, so they've gone to stay with Obi Wan and Cody so Anakin can get some help.
None of that matters though. What matters is that someone talked to me about frogs and I remembered this. I did recently say I'd try to make the occasional cheerful post and this does make me laugh. So. I've dug it up.
Snippet:
Anakin was sprawled over the couch with a flannel on his head, he groaned dramatically as Cody entered. "A week! A whole week! I'm losing my sanity."
"Can't you just i don't know, show them its uncomfortable? Stop shielding yourself a bit?"
Anakin sat up slightly, the flannel slid off his face slowly before falling to the floor with a plop. "Don't you think I've tried that? I've tried everything Cody! She's never kept it up this long! And now she's got Luke on side! I've half a mind to drop them off to the creche for an extended sleepover and let Mace figure it out."
"Mace might have an idea...."
"Cody she'll recruit the rest of the kids! I've thought of everything and I've tried everything that might work! She's far too charasmatic, look how she has Luke caught in her spiel! She'll have half the temple converted. My child has the abilities of a cult leader, it's terrifying!"
"Why doesn't projecting back at her work again?"
"Well because it'll make her think she's won for one, she'll put up with an unreasonable amount of discomfort just to bathe in victory."
"Its because you can't make it bad enough isn't it."
"Of course it is! She's my little girl Cody! I'm not going to torture her am I! The most I can manage is being mildly annoying and then I have to stop before I start sending waves of irritation. I love her beyond reason but nobody told me how annoying 7 year olds can be!"
"You completely deserve this." Cody tells him dryly. "What you put Obi Wan through? You deserve for your children to be as annoying as you."
"Hey!"
"Its true! Well why can't Obi Wan project at her till she gives in then?"
"Are you kidding? He's even softer than me."
And honestly, Cody has no counter to that. "Are there any force sects you've come across that don't shield?"
Anakin looks desperate "None where the users maintained their sanity!"
"Well can't you tell her that?" He asked patiently.
"She's 7! She doesnt care! 'Insanity' means as much to her as taxes do."
Cody hummed. "She actually has a pretty good understanding of..."
"Yeah bad example, whatever. This is clearly my fault for having kids with a politican. Honestly! Convenient that she isn't interested in looking after them considering she is immune to this damned headache."
"I'm immune to the headache"
"I know Cody! But you are here!" Anakin bursts, before adding in a calmer voice, "Which is appreciated actually. Thank you."
"Yeah, yeah."
Anakin sighs and they both fall quiet for a while.
"How about different ways of raising kids?" Cody suggests. "Come across any interesting traditions there? Maybe different ways of teaching shielding"
"Ugh!" Anakin flops back over the arm of the sofa "None that I can think of with this banging headache! To be honest my research kind of centres around the whole hate thing, then there's the code and different attitudes to it..."
"Anything that might help with this though."
Anakin looks thoughtful for a while. "No not really."
Cody exhales.
"Although..." Anakin begins.
Cody looks up hopefully.
"This is a great example of chaos yet peace." Anakin continued thoughtfully.
"Youre joking right that's a joke." Cody asks, deadpan.
"Yeah of course" Anakin agrees quickly. "Although no actually, don't think I am. What's more chaotic than kids?" He thinks about it for a moment. "No this is good i can totally use this. The Jedi love kids, kids love chaos, therefore, jedi love chaos. That's a great intro isn't it?"
"Can you write the paper once we've solved this? Please?"
"I mean I guess. Though what I'm thinking about doesn't really depend on our success, it's just a funny little anecdote to get people interested, you know get the ball rolling."
"God I can't listen to any more of this."
He swivles in to a turn and strides from the room.
"Right kids, let's give poor uncle Obi a break from you two battering his brain, we'll go for a walk by the river before lunch."
--break--
Anakin doesn't say anything until the kids are in bed, though at several points in the afternoon Cody turns to see his eyes bugging out over the kids heads.
As soon as they are asleep he's throwing his arms in the air and whispering "What the fuck was that? What did you do? How?"
Cody finds himself smirking
Obi Wan looks perplexed "I would rather like to know that myself."
Cody laughs, "it's stupid, look it was something Anakin said, chaos yet peace right."
"You just told them the code?" Obi Wan asks a little shrill.
He laughs again. "No, no, anything but. Look, what feeds chaos?"
"The force" Anakin answers promptly
Obi Wan looks thoughtful.
"What? No!" Cody bursts.
Then he thinks about it. Afterall, he's hardly the expert. "Well maybe actually, i don't know, explain it to me later."
"Chaos feeds chaos! They were giving you a constant headache which undoubtedly was making it hard to stay centred, you were frustrated so you kept at it and it just egged them on."
Cody shrugs. "They immediately got bored when i didn't try to talk about it, then when they brought it up, I calmly refuted it: reminded them I don't have the force but they are still connected to me, and made up some shit about balance and how shielding lets them just project the super important emotions in the moment rather than you two having to sift through absolutely everything that crosses their minds."
"Reminded them that they probably don't want to know everything you think of, they agreed that would be boring and would make it hard to notice the things you do usually project for them."
Obi Wan looks thoughtful
Anakin looks somewhat outraged that neither of them thought of this
"The real kicker though, was the force sensitve frog." Cody continues.
"The... the what?" Anakin spurts.
"Down by the river?" Obi Wan looks interested.
"The frog isn't actually force sensitive." Cody clarifies, then after he thinks about it: "At least I don't think it was. It could have been."
That part doesn't really matter.
"Anyway! There was a frog, Leia did that thing"
"Grabbed it" Anakin says instantly
"Grabbed for it, yep" Obi Wan echos
"Yeah so she grabbed for it and Luke was just sat there; still, calm, you know: Luke. And he happened to be in the frogs path, but cause he didn't grab it or move or anything, the frog just stays there, on his hand."
"Right, then what" Anakin asks.
"Well then Luke goes, oh! Oh no! Leia I forgot to stop shielding, but the frog likes it! I can't stop now, frog likes shielding."
"And Leia is sceptical right, she's like, no, the frog just likes you."
"And it seemed like a learning moment OK?"
"A learning moment for a lie?!" Obi Wan asks, scandalised
"You just wanted the frog to be real!" Anakin accuses.
Cody carries on. "Yeah so i go, well i don't know guys, without the force i can't really tell if frogs ARE force sensitive but uncle Obi did say..."
"You brought me in to this! You've made me an acomplice in this false biology?!"
"Yeah i did. So i said that you'd mentioned some force sensitive frogs at some point..."
Anakin backs him up. "It does sound like something you'd say."
"Yeah exactly." Cody agrees. "So I said that, and then i was like, well, you know uncle Obi and your dad werent lying they did get really hurt heads from how loud you guys were being."
"And explained: because you two are twins it isn't so bad for you but it hurts your dad and Obi and they do know you really well! So if we extrapolate that, on to a force sensitive frog, well that frog might well get a hurt head if you aren't shielding, it makes sense that the frog might prefer someone who is shielding"
"So they werent bothered about it hurting us but god forbid the hypothetical frog has a bad head!" Obi Wan asks, somewhat put out.
Cody nods. "Yeah pretty much." He raises an eyebrow. "And it wasnt a hypothetical frog was it? It was a very real frog, she kept looking between the frog and Lukes head for a real long time in that intense way she gets sometimes"
Anakin gave the room at large an intense look
"Yeah that one, exactly." Cody nodded. "So yeah the frog was real, but the frogs headache, that was hypothetical."
Obi Wan looks less than convinced.
Cody met his eye. "You know kids! They aren't good at empathy when they are too close to it, they think you guys are indestructable and besides, they don't need to get on your good side, offending the frog was a very real possibilty."
Anakin spreads out his arms. "OK but i guess the real question is, will it last? Do we think the lesson might last from this one?"
He yawns. "Obi Wan, just throwing it out there, if you tell them frogs aren't force sensitive, you're dead to me."
Cody snorts.
Obi Wan shoots him an offended look.
Cody breaks. "Aw you know I'm on your side! I just don't think this really counts as misinformation? I didn't actually say the frog was just that you said a frog could be"
"I didn't say that though!" Obi Wan refutes. Adding in a firm tone: "Because frogs are not force sensitive"
"Arent they though?" Anakin asks. "I don't think that's actually been disproven"
Cody points at him. "Exactly! And you did tell me about a force sensitive amphibian like last week" He adds pleadingly in Obi Wans direction.
"You did? Why are you so against this force sensitive amphibian then?" Anakin questioned, perplexed and more than a little interested in the potential of force sensitive frogs.
"Well that one was one very particular species, not a frog and that species actually does exist!" Countered Obi Wan.
"I thought we'd covered that, this was not a hypothetical frog" Cody asks holding in a laugh.
Anakin laughs, loudly. "and we also talked about how Cody simply couldn't have known. With no trained force users present, who even knows."
At this Obi wan finally breaks, with a snort of laughter "OK fine I won't correct them but when they come to you with strange ideas about medicine or singing frog consipracys don't come crying to me! I warned you against fake force science!"
Anakin flapped a hand "Aw that's a problem for another day and besides, you know i will come crying to you as that's what i always do, that's what gramps is for!"
Obi Wan scowled at him. "Uncle"
"Yeah sure"

I don’t think this is considered canon, but it is most definitely something I can see Anakin doing, even as Vader. Every time he encountered Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, or Luke, he would write novel-length entries overanalyzing their behaviors, decisions, and reactions as well as his own. I don’t know if he would still care about people not remembering his birthday. If he cared, he wouldn’t make it obvious
#I don’t buy that Vader would enjoy being evil for the sake of being evil because that’s not his style of evil#he’s lawful evil#but the stuff about being totally in denial about how utterly fucked up his entire life and existence is completely in character#i know this is considered non canon and a lot of it reads like crack!fic but then I remember that Anakin really was that extra#both before and after Mustafar in the series#dear diary today I tried to get my son to join the dark side so I could get help killing skeevy sheevs and bond with Luke ruling the world#he got angry and scared when I reached out to him by torturing his friends abducting him cutting off his hand and threatening him#which is what I normally get told to do to convince recruits to join the dark side as my apprentice#but Luke’s anger and fear towards me actually is making me feel really bad about hurting someone to get my way for the first time in years#i really hope the kid didn’t die after he refused to turn to the dark side and skittered away from me in terror after I did all that#and told him I was his dad#I made sure to cut off his entire hand from the artery so while painful it shouldn’t have been something he bled out from#also how dare obi-wan leave me to burn the fuck alive and steal my lightsaber!#dear diary today I finally caught obi-wan kenobi after hunting him down to get vengeance against him for turning Padme against me#baiting me into a duel and leaving me to burn alive on Mustafar 10 years ago#I was about to burn him alive to even the score but then I couldn’t bring myself to actually do it to him when I had the chance#master Sidious tried to say that Anakin Skywalker still cares about Obi-Wan#but that’s impossible! I destroyed anakin skywalker because he was weak on Mustafar!#obi-wan is a hypocritical douchebag who spent years throwing Anakin Skywalker under the bus to kiss Yoda’s and the council’s asses#and I let him! I don’t get why I still felt compelled to spare him from the same fate he left Anakin to on Mustafar and let him get away!#I spent ten years hunting the old bastard down and plotting revenge but right when I had him in my grasp I told him I killed Anakin#and let him get away from me! it’s impossible! Anakin is dead. I destroyed him 10 years ago so why can’t I destroy his past with obi wan#dear diary visions of Padme keep haunting my dreams every night and every time I’m alone!#She’s gone forever! I destroyed her along with Anakin Skywalker on Mustafar because she betrayed me to try to get obi wan to kill me!#and yet she tried to tell me it was all a misunderstanding and there were tears in her eyes when I grasped her throat with the force.#I could have sworn she was still alive when I dropped her from my grasp! I felt it! but emperor Sidious said I killed her in my anger!#is there something that he wasn’t telling me that I missed? could it be possible that Padme didn’t know that obi-wan had stowed away#dear diary today I finally killed Obi Wan Kenobi. It wasn’t much of a fight. Obi Wan just stood there the whole time so I stabbed him#right before he died he said ‘I’m about to become more powerful than you could ever imagine’#and he just vanished into thin air! wtf? now all I hear is obi-wan cackling and Anakin’s ghost keeps yelling at me for killing obi wan!

You’ve mentioned several times about Anakin having ADHD. What led you to that conclusion? I don’t think I’ve seen that interpretation before.
I mean, it may just be because I suffer with the disorder, too, but I headcanon that Anakin has ADHD because he can:
1). Hyperfocus when really invested in something or someone, but apparently forgetful when not-Remembers every detail and step when someone or something is really interesting to him, such as building droids, Padme, Obi-Wan, Palpatine, his mother, looking for Luke, his childhood, piloting space fighters, or sparring in a duel, but then gets bored and zones out in lectures about procedures and politics.
2). Superiors get frustrated with him because he tends to listen to his gut on how tasks should be completed that they ask of him, especially if he can think of a way to do it faster-Anakin learned to become Darth Vader through negative influences from pretty much every adult authority figure in his life with the exception of his mother. However, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and even Sidious got frustrated with him frequently as his teachers because he would try to carry out the tasks they asked of him in his way before completing tasks in the ways they asked of him. For instance, not following Obi-Wan’s directions about going along the route to catch the assassin in AOTC because he knows a short cut. Sidious gets frustrated because he doesn’t always do things in the way he asks.
3). Tends to thrive and stay on task better in a high pressure job where he has to cooperate with others and be held accountable by them for his performance throughout his shifts-Sure, he’s often thrust in to those positions without much of a say, but I also can’t imagine that Anakin would thrive as a remote employee at home or a leader without a supervisor either. He’d get bored, lose motivation, and lose focus. He needs a job where he’s serving some sort of cause, group, or organization. He needs a job in which he has clear cut goals and instructions. He needs a job working with other people who will remind him to stay on task. He tends to struggle with direction in environments without structure.
4. Good at coming up with plans in the moment on the battlefield, but struggles with execution with long-term plans-He comes up with this seemingly great plan to recruit Luke to the dark side, but he’s not subtle about in regards to his son at all, nor did he think it through as well as he thought he did as we see on Bespin.
5. Impatient -Both before becoming Vader and afterwards, Anakin is a very impatient person. He gets frustrated when the things he wants to happen or sets out to do don’t just happen right away, and self-sabotages with his impatience.
For instance, he wants Luke to join the dark side, so he’ll help free him from Palpatine, they can overthrow him, and then bond together ruling the galaxy. However, he actually makes it more unlikely for Luke to want to join him at all by first cutting off his hand when he refuses the first time, and then following it up with why he was doing it.
Has a tendency to force choke the admirals who refuse to listen to him to get things done.
That scene in AOTC where he takes the shortcut to find the assassin is another example.
6) Procrastinates-Tends to get stuff done at the last minute. In some SW content, such as SW TCW 2003, Anakin has been shown as being late to meetings, which isn’t uncommon for people with ADHD.

Hey Lego, i was reading some dark!obi-wan stuffs and thought about like, the darkside madness that might affect individuals. In other words: Obi has a lot more sentimental attatchment to the Jedi/the order than Anakin has, turning on them perhaps even comitting the atrocities of the darkside while he was such a bright light might chip away at him a bit mentally? He might be cold and calculating, clever and well composed but there has to be this overbearing guilt. Anakin as Vader has it too but he just uses it to drown himself futher into the dark, might it not be a bit different for Obi-wan? Manifesting more in trying to disasosciate himself from it, perhaps?I feel like when it comes to Sith-Obi his exterior is extremely polished but inside is a bit of an unstable mess after a while.
Whilst Dooku has an extraordinary control of how far he seems to give in to the darkside exactly as by his dark unchanged eyes, i don't think Obi-wan can compartmentalize his actions as well in the long run, i dont think he'd be able to keep them blue. So the longer Obes dabbles i think the more he would start spiraling into something else.
I think, anon, the differences kind of play out this way.
Anakin
Anakin, as Obi-wan so deftly pointed out in the RotS novelization, is loyal to people, not institutions. His guilt stems from the loss of Padmé, of his unborn children, of Obi-wan and Ahsoka. He sticks with Palpatine because the man offers him some scintilla of relationship, as fucked it may be. On some level Anakin has to realize this, that he's just reenacted the same trauma, the same script from childhood (and arguably, form his time with the Jedi, at least from his perspective) and just pushes himself deeper into the Dark Side due to guilt and shame. There's really nothing all that calculating about Anakin, even as a Sith Lord (yes, he plays Reva, but at the same time, Thrawn less dances as much executes podracing circles around Anakin in Alliances and it's kind of hilarious, albeit sad). Frankly, Anakin, as a Sith, is kind of a one-note samba of sadness until Luke enters the picture. But again, individuals over institutions.
Dooku
Dooku is an interesting case study. He is loyal to the Jedi, but you get the feeling it's always been conditional, self-contained, in a way. That he'll stay loyal, yes, until...
Until the Jedi's goals no longer align with his own.
Until he has identified the corruption in the Order.
Until being the best of the Jedi means no longer staying in the Order.
Until saving the Jedi means turning on the Jedi.
Dooku is loyal to an ideal (a shifting ideal, but still an ideal). He brings people along for that ride for as long as they are willing (or living) to stay on board, but hot damn, does he stick to the ideal, even if it pains him. See the way he dealt with Ventress. The way he didn't speak with Qui-gon or Rael except to try to recruit them. Personal attachments are a weakness, they adulterate his ideology which is why he eschews them, or at least attempts to, Obi-wan being the last and final tether to anything resembling a connection (and of course, it's couched in teaching. Because that's the way Dooku knows how to connect with people, Sifo-Diyas and, if we're going the Jedi Lost route, Jenza excepted). So yeah, if you look at it from this way, the compartmentalization, which he has had so many years of practice with, makes total sense. And rarely, rarely does it crack.
Obi-wan
Which brings us to Obi-wan. Obi-wan, who remained steadfastly loyal to the Jedi for so many years. Who sacrificed his Knighthood to raise Anakin on the premise of a promise to a dead man. Obi-wan, who did everything the Council nearly everything the Council asked of him until the end, until he went rogue on Mandalore, until he sent troops with Ahsoka back to Mandalore. He was loyal almost to a fault and in a situation where he turns, that loyalty can quickly sour to bitter, calculated rage. And Obi-wan, who has always been so in control of himself because what other control does he have in his life (he's ceded that control to others so many times), that I have to believe that would carry over to his Dark Side iteration - until it doesn't. Until he goes rogue like on Mandalore, until he enjoys playing the villain, like in the Deception arc, until he randomly flouts Republic law and gives a non-Jedi command of a battalion. When Obi-wan slips, he slips hard, and yes, just like those little slips began to accumulate more and more during the Clone Wars, you have to wonder if that control would s slip bit by bit as a Sith. Probably. And it would probably be terrifying (and kind of awesome). He would likely be as loyal to the Sith as he was the Jedi until those cracks formed again, and then - oh boi - and then, who knows what kind of form Obes would take? (Probably something along the lines of self-immolation, if I'm being honest).
#hello there#ask legobiwan#anakin skywalker#obi wan kenobi#count dooku#i feel my star wars neurons beginning to fire again#weeeeee!

Peter Maximoff’s complicated relationship with Star Wars
Summary: Peter didn't like Star Wars. But not because they were bad movies, no. It's because they somehow were very similar to his own life, and they also showed him what might have been, had his twin lived long enough. This is the story of Peter Maximoff, told through the many similarities between the original trilogy and his own life.
*All Star Wars quotes are in italics*
Peter doesn’t like Star Wars
Don’t get him wrong, the movies are great. The first movie had come out when he was 22 years old, and he had found it amazing. He had never seen anything like it before and had sneaked into the movie theater to rewatch it with his twin several times.
‘I need your help, Luke.’
It was almost ironic how his life resembled some parts of the movie. Both he and Wendy had some characteristics of Luke and Leia. He was the goofball, the one who had been recruited to break someone out of an impenetrable prison. Hell, Charles could be Obi-Wan, the old wizard with strange mind control powers (though he didn’t have them at the time), Hank was Chewbacca, the fierce beast who was loyal to his family, and then the claw guy, Logan, was Han Solo. The dark-haired man with a don’t-mess-with-me attitude that would shoot you down without hesitation. That made him Luke, the farm boy that was raised isolated, unaware of the true danger. Only difference was that Erik wasn’t Leia, no he was Vader. Wendy was Leia, the fierce, loud mouthed, badass princess that didn’t let anyone boss her around.
They had loved the first movie, but then tragedy struck. His twin’s powers were always unpredictable, always on the verge of lashing out. He had tried to help as much as he could, but just a few months after their 23rd birthday, it was too much for Wendy to bear. She lost control and died, taking half a block with her. Peter did his best to carry on, but their lost connection was all he could feel. The aching emptiness that had always been occupied by his twin sister. It took awhile, but he did eventually go see the second Star Wars. It was... a bittersweet experience to say the least.
Seeing the big bad Vader being related to Luke really did a number on him. All he could think about was the fact that he too was related to a literal terrorist. Someone who had hurt hundred of people and would probably not hesitate to hurt him as well. And then it was revealed that Luke and Leia shared a connection, where they could hear each other and feel each other, and it just overwhelmed him. Minus the kissing (ew, that was gross, why did they even include that?!) Luke and Leia’s relationship reminded him of his and Wendy’s.
That’s why he wasn’t surprised when they were revealed to be twins in the next movie.
Actually, he had been surprised, but more about the fact that his grief took over for a moment. Seeing Leia try to reason with Luke, telling him that nothing good would come out of chasing Vader, their father... that was a conversation that had really happened after their mom told them who exactly was Magneto. Peter had decided to chase Erik down the moment he had resurfaced.
‘I won't fail - I'm not afraid.’
‘Oh, you will be. You will be.’
His mom had warned him about Magneto, how nothing good came out of chasing ghosts, but he had to try. A confrontation with the Dark Lord of the Sith.
Cloud city The mansion was full of people, and the place was exploding. He saved them all (minus one), of course, because that’s what he did. Why be a speedster if you can’t save people from catastrophe?
‘Luke, don't - it's a trap!’
Yeah, it had been a trap, alright. But unlike Luke, he hadn’t had Leia to warn him. So, the carbon freezing chamber knock out gun had worked. That’s how he ended up captured by the government and woke up in a weird green room. The others, he could understand why they were taken, they seemed to know the man holding them, but why him? Peter was of no interest to them. Unless they knew he was related to Magneto and planned to use him as a bargaining chip, but it seemed unlikely.
Then, they were freed and, on their way to confront En Sabah Nur, or as Hank had described him, the blue god. He had told Raven about his relationship with Erik, and she promised him that she would make sure she would tell him.
‘There is no escape. Don't make me destroy you.’
The cold, cold eyes of Magneto were staring at him with something that seemed almost like interest. “And you?”
‘I am your father.’
It was right there, a perfect opportunity served on a silver platter. An opportunity to make Erik realize he wasn’t alone, that he had more family. Perhaps he’d turn back to the light side if he knew. “I’m your-“
But it was Wendy who was the brave one, she was the chosen one. She never would have hesitated. And he wasn’t his sister. “I’m here for my family too.”
It was all sad and tragic because his life was just like that. He could feel Raven’s eyes on him, she couldn’t understand why he hadn’t told him, but she couldn’t know about Wendy. It was his own painful secret.
With how similar his life was to Luke’s he wasn’t sure why he was even surprised when he got his hand cut off leg broken. Then, there he was, trying to hold on to consciousness as shock settled into his body.
‘Hear me! Leia!’
Oh, how he wished Wendy were here. She would have destroyed them. Peter would have done anything for his twin to answer, like Leia did with Luke. But she was dead, there was no one to answer him. Just the cobwebs of their broken connection and the burning pain of his leg. He didn’t really care what happened next, he was all too focused on getting his message to his long-lost sister. He didn’t really believe in a higher power, of some all-powerful entity that somehow watched over everyone. He did, however, believe in Wendy, his strong, beautiful, powerful sister.
‘I would have preferred her too’
The blue God’s voice resonated in his head, catching him off guard. No one had ever reached in his mind like that, Wendy only could because of their connection.
‘If you will not turn to the dark side, then perhaps she will.’
Would his father have tried recruiting Wendy for his brotherhood? Yeah, definitely. She would have been the true last hope. A daughter to be proud about. One with abilities beyond anything anyone had ever seen. One that truly would have saved everyone, hell, she would have prevented the mansion from exploding and never would have been captured in the first place. The blue god looked at him with disdain in his eyes and Peter knew it didn’t mean anything good. He tried to crawl away, but in his current position, that did absolutely nothing.
‘It is pointless to resist, my son.’
En Sabah Nur grabbed him by the hair and tugged, holding him painfully upright and vulnerable. He’d always hated staying still, he was always too full of energy, always eager to chase after the next distraction.
Peter looked up at his father, trying to see if he would do anything, but he saw nothing but indifference. Magneto didn’t care about him. He was an insignificant mutant, a face amongst a thousand others. Soon to be counted amongst the hundred of corpses that Erik had seen in his life.
‘Now, young Skywalker...you will die.’
The god pulled his head back sharply, exposing his throat. “End him.”
One of his horsemen was approaching him with a sharp sword. Peter was slightly thankful that it wasn’t his dad that was chosen to be his executioner. His powers had kicked in, trying to give him an opportunity to escape. But it only made his imminent doom even worse.
Then, he didn’t die, and the hope of seeing his twin again was brushed aside for another near-death situation. As it turned out, Raven was a great person when the son of her friend was in danger.
En Sabah Nur let him go too quickly to focus on the blue mutant. He gasped and writhed as he fell to the ground as electricity pain coursed through his body. The blue god didn’t care about him, he continued calling for Charles, calling for his true target.
‘Father! Help me!’
He should cry out like Luke did, there was no way Magneto would act if he didn’t. Then again, he didn’t have a clue who he was. It was doubtful he remembered him from the Pentagon, it had been nearly 10 years and Erik had had a whole other family since. He was just the nameless idiot that got a big head and tried to take on a god and got defeated like a loser.
In the end, they were all fine, just a little shaken. Erik gave him a weird look, either he pitied him, or he was wondering what he had wanted to tell him. But Peter was on the verge of passing out, there was no way he could hold a conversation at the moment. They came back to the mansion and Peter decided to stay, maybe getting out of his isolation wouldn’t be so bad.
So, even if his life was similar to Star Wars, in its turns and tragedy, it wasn’t even close to how the trilogy ended. The scruffy Han never came back, Obi-wan wasn’t next to a redeemed Anakin (he just left all together) and Leia wasn’t at his side anymore. A happy ending wasn’t something that happened in real life. Everything he wanted resolved wasn’t wrapped neatly into a bow. He still had his loads of daddy issues caused by a father who didn’t know was a father and Wendy, his amazing long gone twin still wasn’t at his side. Peter figured that some good would eventually come to him, it couldn’t be all bad, right?
‘This is our most desperate hour.’
He had faith in that, so, when he was woken up by a burning sensation in his chest, he did his best to understand. The pain was so familiar, it was grief. But not his grief, no, this came from the connection he shared with his twin.
“Wanda?” he called out. Using her real name because she was calling to him. Because she needed him. Because she was somewhere all alone.
“I had a brother, his name was… Pietro.”
It was painful for her to talk about him, so he made sure to let her know through their bond that he was there for her, she just had to reach out. Wanda was confused to feel him, but her scarlet magic soon opened a portal. It might be a trap, there was no way to be certain, but Peter trusted his sister. He took and deep breath and ran into the portal without hesitation. She was alone and she was suffering, it was his job as her twin to help her.
‘Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.’

The way you made this whole point up to portray the Jedi in one way is amazing because it literally makes no sense.
Not entirely correct. The Jedi gain children from these different planets. If either a war breaks out or the Trade Federation controls the planet (eventually the separatist) then that means their cult may lose out on force sensitive kids (either bc casualty of war or this new leadership won't allow it).
That is not, at any point, a concerned noted by any Jedi character in leadership or even a Knight and Master within Phantom Menace. This is the SAME movie they said NO on having Anakin. Now YMMV on whatever interpretation people like yourself who create the worst bad faith outlooks on them will put out but they werent quick to scoop up Anakin despite, which conflicts with your whole assertion about their interest in swelling the ranks.
Funny enough, the recent Living Force book address this point a little, when it is revealed Sifo-Dyas often ignored protocol and had this very similar attitude because he swell the Jedi ranks to be able to fight off Order 66, which he had vague visions of. Mace, Depa, and the Council revealed to the villain (who was a criminal in part because of the negligence Dyas had years ago) that because he breached it, he was told he was no longer allowed to even recruit Jedi CANDIDATES.
That is placed just a year before TPM and the Council in that same movie were not concerned about recruitment of kids at any point. Hell, Naboo is a significant presence in that movie and they used teenagers as monarch figures AND body guard.
So of course they're on the side that... A) Keeps the current power in place. B) Keeps their pipeline of children safe. C) Didn't try to kill them within 5 minutes of getting to a waiting room
So did we not remember in the movie how this very act was very bold on The Trade Federation, a company that manages to have it's own private army and a seat on the Senate like it is a planet before going through an illegal occupation and then attempting to obfuscate their activities and wanting to own Naboo?
The Trade Federation was not good at any point in the movie.
It just so happens that the good choice lines up with the pragmatic choice because don't expect too much from the writing of the movies.
You don't even comprehend the movies enough for your argument so I don't know why you balk at the writing, which made no mention of any kind of personal incentive they had whether it be in the movie or retroactively stated in other media that debuted after it.
Neither Yoda, Mace, or Ki-Adi-Mundi ever mentioned "but the kids tho".
The Jedi are all about keeping the status quo for the sake of it and are never shown in the movies as neutral. This is something the prequels try to touch on but it doesn't really get delved into as much as it should.
The Jedi support the Republic in part because it is considered a DEMOCRACY and a REPUBLIC, meaning elected officials do the governing and they follow a CONSTITUTION, which sets the rules and principles in which they govern. Maintaining the "status quo" is not the "gotcha" moment you think it is and is not always inherently leaning towards negativity..
The Council and Mace Windu also made it clear in AotC to Palpatine they intially they did not intend to fight in any violent conflict with the Seperatist, as they are not military soldiers ("We are keepers of the peace, not soldiers"). The Council had to change their position when it became clear Dooku was spearheading the Seperatist for something other than striking out of the Republic (not to mention a literal act of aggression against them by kidnapping a Jedi Master) and Obi-Wan reported his chat with Dooku, which also made Windu (then-head of the Council) suspicious and remark they should keep a close eye on the Senate.
They're pretty neutral far as things are concerned but literal circumstances force their hand to side with the Republic.
Jedi neutrality in TPM comes not at all from not taking sides. They get there and pick a side in under five minutes. They are 100% team Naboo. No, their neutrality, and their cultural moral authority, comes from not having a stake in this fight. They're not mixed up in the trade federation. They don't have personal ties with the Naboo. They don't stand to benefit or to lose from the success of either party. They can just show up and say, hey, just decided you guys suck. And no one can accuse them of being secretly married to the Naboo queen or having offshore investments in the Lake country, or whatever completely hypothetical thing a person might have going on that would hypothetically compromise that neutrality

hey @pantoranprincess i uh. i wrote it <3
https://archiveofourown.org/works/29139768
full fic under the cut
The two men were seated at a table, enjoying lunch despite the… cozy size of Luke’s office. Conversation flowed easily, albeit mostly one-sided.
“anyways, that’s when I saw Obi-Wan, my first master-” Luke paused, noticing Din’s helmet tilt slightly at the name, “you do know who Obi-Wan was, right?”
Din froze, not expecting the Jedi to pick up on his confusion, “the name sounds familiar… Bo-Katan mentioned him once,” he took a sip from his straw, “said he was a sister-seducing- man-whore? Was he some kind of escort?”
He waited as his words washed over Luke. The jedi blinked twice, a smile flickering past his lips.
“yes,” Luke nodded, “he was, excellent job,” he spooned more soup into his own bowl, hiding his smile behind its large spoon.
“and he was your master?” Din asked, tilting his head forward.
“mhmm,” Luke set the spoon back into the bowl, matching din’s gaze through his lashes, “taught me everything he knew,”
Din coughed, turning his attention back towards his lunch. he sipped at it, ignoring the blush that crept under his helmet.
The jedi huffed, eyes twinkling. Something told Din that maybe, just maybe, he’d lied about the Obi-wan thing.
-><-
The back of Luke’s head hit the ground, pulling a wheeze from his body. Above him, Din stood poised, cradling a very fussy green toddler. He extended a hand toward the fallen jedi, but Luke waved him off, leaning up on his elbows.
“’s nothing, no offense but,” he gestured to Grogu, who had calmed down some, “he’s no Vader, I’ll be fine,” this time, he accepted Din’s hand, hardly dwelling on how easily he pulled him up.
“Vader?” Din asked, shifting the baby to his hip, and pocketing the darksaber he’d previously been using.
Luke looked up at the Mandalorian, tilting his head with a smile, “Darth Vader? The emperor’s right-hand man?”
Din’s helmet betrayed to hint of recognition. Unbelievable. No way, there’s no way he was this clueless.
“big cape, scary helmet? Red lightsaber?” Luke tried, wracking his brain.
“oh, you mean like the guy on those old recruitment posters?”
“those- the recruitment posters?”
Din nodded, “I’d see ‘em plastered up in bars and stuff, back before the empire fell,”
Recruitment posters. Din, one of the best bounty hunters Luke had ever met, king of Mandalore himself, had only heard of Darth Vader via recruitment posters. Luke felt his chest flutter. He nodded along with whatever Din said next, mind elsewhere. If he hadn’t heard of Darth Vader… what else had he managed to miss?
-><-
“Din!” Luke called from down the hallway, footsteps tripping as he ran inside Din’s ship, “Din! My sister’s here,” he said, knocking on the solid metal hull, “She wants to meet you!” his voice made it sound like an important event, though Din could hardly see why exchanging niceties with the sister of a backwater jedi warranted such flare.
“mm,” Din pulled back the door, peering down at Luke who was bouncing on his toes, “why?”
Luke ignored him, grabbing Din by his gloved hand, and dragging him towards his office, “this could be a big opportunity for you,” he rattled on, eyes shining beneath his mess of dust-streaked hair, “it’s good for you to make connections like this, given your newly-found title-”
“connections?” Din interrupted, “what do you mean?”
Luke spared a confused glance back at the Mandalorian, still steadily walking him towards his sister, “my sister? Leia Organa?”
Din offered up no response, but Luke was enamored by it nonetheless. He could understand not knowing much about galactic history, after all, he was under the impression that Din lead a particularly... sheltered childhood. But things that were happening now? The new republic?
“she was the princess of Alderaan? She helps lead the New Republic?”
“Alderaan...” Din paused, “that’s the one that blew up, right?”
“yes,” Luke dropped Din’s hand, unhooking the tarp that shielded his office from view, “yes, it’s the one that blew up,”
“mm,” Din hummed thoughtfully, “is she a jedi too?”
“sort of, I’ve been helping her train,” Luke said, checking his hair in the gleam of Din’s helmet.
“must’ve been why they blew up Alderaan then,” Din held still, “they were trying to kill her before she got too powerful,”
Luke’s hands stilled. He stared up into the Mandalorian’s visor, “huh,” he said, unable to stop his lips from twitching, “maybe so,” Luke turned around, brushing the tarp aside for Din to enter, hiding his smile behind the fabric.

It was almost cute, how little Din seemed to know about the galaxy he lived in. it didn’t really matter, of course. Most of it was just history lessons, nothing that would seriously impede him on a mission or in battle. And he wasn’t stupid by any means. He could speak more languages than Luke could count on his hands, flesh and robotic, and had flight skills that could rival even the most trained X-wing pilot. Still, it was hard not to feel fond when the Mandalorian only just now realized that Luke and Leia were twins.
“how was I supposed to know!”
“Din, starlight, our father would’ve been found out the second one of us was born, how exactly did you think he managed to swerve the jedi code to have another baby?”
“listen-” Din huffed, biting back his argument when he saw how ecstatic Luke was over this whole ordeal. Luke only nodded along expectantly, crossing one leg over the other. He was nothing if not encouraging.
“to be fair,” Din started, scowling at Luke’s twinkling smile, “she’s a princess, and you grew up on Tatooine,” he huffed, “and you never mentioned your dad was a jedi,” he added quickly, hoping Luke would miss it in his euphoria. No such luck.
“Din,” Luke stood up, reaching to cradle the Mandalorian’s helmet in his hands, “Anakin Skywalker? Did you think that was a coincidence?”
“it’s a big galaxy, there’s like half a billion ‘Djarin’s out there,” Din answered, but the bite had left his voice. It was hard to be frustrated when Luke was so close, all soft smiles and saying “Din” like it was a prayer.
Din leaned into the jedi’s touch. He’d blame it on the weight of his helmet later, and Luke would play along, teasingly offering to hold the helmet if it ever got too heavy. It was only ever teasing though. Luke never asked for more than Din was willing to give.

They were pressed together, Din’s arm wrapped lazily around Luke’s waist, the jedi’s head leaning against his cold, armored shoulder. The beaches on Luke’s planet were nothing special, but the sunsets, oh the sunsets were spectacular. Grogu had been poking at Luke’s brain all day, playing memories of beach days on coruscant and building sandcastles with the crechemasters, until Luke finally caved and suited the baby up for a day in the water, inviting Din along.
Grogu had the time of his life, taking turns force-throwing sand at his dad and splashing his master until they joined in the fun. After a full day of entertaining the little gremlin, though, the two men had decided to impose Nap Time on the kiddo, sprawling out together on one of the many beach towels Luke had brought. (“you didn’t grow up on Tatooine, Din. Trust me, sand gets everywhere”)
The baby was fast asleep against Din’s armor, wrapped up so his head didn’t get bruised by the beskar.
“this was nice, huh?” Luke asked, shifting to look up at the Mandalorian. His eyes brushed over the thin stripe of exposed facial hair before he pulled his gaze away, embarrassed. Even the smallest of glimpses got his heart racing. Ridiculous, honestly.
“mhmm,” Din absentmindedly rubbed circles on Grogu’s back with his thumb, “could’ve done without all the sand in my armor, though,”
Luke laughed, “ugh I know,” he shifted again, pulling his arms from the poncho he was wearing, “I always get so much sand and dust in my hand, it’s the worst,”
Din tilted his helmet, “in your hand?”
“yeah,” Luke fiddled with his glove, pulling it off before tugging on one of his fingers, revealing the intricate system of wires, “you didn’t know?”
Din knew he was staring, and he knew that wasn’t polite but he just- “you’re… part droid?”
Luke laughed at that, a full, hearty laugh, one that had him gasping for air and rolling on his back. Din reached for his hand, holding it up so that it didn’t hit the sand as Luke fell back.
“yes,” Luke said, catching his breath, “I suppose that’s one way to put it,” he flicked his finger again, closing the wiring hatch. Din hadn’t removed his hand, so Luke twisted their fingers together, “you really didn’t know?”
“how was I supposed to?”
“the lifting things six times my weight didn’t tip you off?”
Din sputtered, “you’re a jedi??? You lift things six times your weight all the time???”
That got Luke laughing again, eyes twinkling in the setting sun. He was teasing Din, yes, but he was also so, so deeply fond of him. This, Luke asking questions, Din answering truthfully even though it made him look silly, this was everything to Luke. Luke trusted the Mandalorian, of course he did, and this made Luke feel like Din trusted him as well. just the thought alone was enough to make the Jedi smile wider, letting his head fall against the Mandalorian’s shoulder once more.

Luke paced around Din’s ship. It was bigger than his last one, and somehow even harder to navigate.
“Din, where’s your holoprojector?” Luke had promised to tell Leia when they were getting close, and they’d be closing in on Coruscant within the hour.
“don’t have one,” came the response from the dashboard, stopping Luke in his tracks.
“don’t- do you at least have a data pad?” no holoprojector? Maybe Din was poorer than Luke thought.
“yeah,” Din shuffled around for a moment, before handing Luke a beat-up data pad that was at least a century old.
“Din this thing is ancient,” he said, frowning at the actual layer of crust on the screen, “does it even have holonet?”
“nope,”
“wh-“ Luke was dumbfounded, “how do you get your news? What if something big happens??”
“if I need to know it, someone will tell me,” Din said as if it was the most obvious thing in the galaxy, but the thought left Luke reeling.
“Din, starlight, you didn’t know who Darth Vader was,”
“I did so-”
“yeah, from recruitment posters-”
“it still counts-”
“no it doesn’t-”
They fought like that for a moment, back and forth, until it dawned on Luke.
“holy stars,” he said, cutting Din’s rant short, “Din, is this why you didn’t know about Obi-Wan? And Anakin being my father? And Leia and the new republic?” Luke sat down in the co-pilot’s seat, scooping up Grogu and setting him in his lap.
Din grumbled, turning his attention back to hyperspace, “it wasn’t important,”
“starlight it was Darth Vader-”
The two started arguing again, bickering in that old married couple kind of way. Luke couldn’t help but smile at the situation. All this time, all these silly little accidents and conversations, all because the Mandalorian hadn’t bothered to install a holoprojector in his ship. It was amazing, really.
“I don’t see what the big deal is, you don’t know anything about Mandalorian culture,”
“Din no one knows anything about Mandalorian culture,”
Din slumped in his seat, hands gripping loosely at the steering controls. Luke leaned forward, bumping the Mandalorian’s with his head until Din faced him, pressing their foreheads together softly.
“hey,” Luke said in hushed tones, “for the record, I thought it was kinda hot,”
Din let out a breathy laugh, pulling back slightly to look in the jedi’s eyes.
“that says more about you than it does me, Skywalker,”
Luke matched his laugh, Din joining in before resting his forehead against Luke’s again. They were gonna get an earful from Leia when they landed without a party to welcome them, but for now they would simply rest, all shiny armor and gentle curls, bathed in the glow of hyperspace.
