Damn, this matchup's format is very interesting. I never thought of doing it this way, but it's practical if you were considering multiple characters for a matchup.
Let's dive into your vision.
Of course, Karasu is one of my most recurrent matches. I totally understand your point, and I think we would definitely get along well when it comes to being sassy against our opponents.
I can imagine him as adventurous but also cautious. I'd gladly help him step out of his comfort zone. And yes, I could totally play the psychologist for him—the crow deserves to be treated well.
I'm more surprised by Sae! I've never really been matched with him before, except for an appearance matchup once, but I can really see your vision for us. I think we'd have a very laid-back yet competitive relationship. We'd challenge each other, but my cocky side would definitely add an interesting twist to it all. In fact, I can picture something a bit like Shidou and Sae.
I could imagine this matchup that would encourage emotional growth
Ah, we'll see. I'll ask for an in-depth matchup with Sae one day. I'm curious to read someone's point of view on this cocktail.
Regarding Isagi, I think he'd be disturbed by me at first. Like, he wouldn't know how to act around me or with me. The unpredictable bothers him, and I'd love to play with him about this. From a more realistic perspective, I'd definitely be attracted to his wisdom and cleverness. His analytical skills are really interesting. He's good at finding the right answers that allow him to win over his enemies. I like that. I think I could also share deep, intriguing conversations with him, in between teasing and provocations.
Hahahaha, no, I'm not surprised to see Kaiser here. By the way, the pink ribbon suits him well; he should definitely wear it on the field. It would disturb his opponents and help him win, unless he finds that strategy beneath him, which I understand.
Anyway, I think the two of us would definitely share a love-hate relationship. Always verbally fighting in public but having a different kind of chemistry when we're alone. I can't help but think we were raised in similar ways, so it's hard for us to show our feelings in a proper, conventional way. I think fighting and teasing is one of my love languages, among others.
Would DEFINITELY travel with you, i could definitely see Kaiser and you seeing all over the world, both learning about the historical significance of the country, and the social construct in said country, (i think he would particularly like France, in the French Revolution)
I'd love to visit places and try new dishes with him. That's one of my biggest goals in life—eating a lot of good shit. That's my main reason to earn money, alongside traveling. And I'd love to visit Germany, especially the Christmas markets. But I'm not sure Kaiser would be thrilled about that.
if you were cold, or even if it was just slightly cold, (50f/10c or colder for reference) Kaiser would give his jacket/scarf to you, regardless of if you say anything or not, he’d notice if you were in any discomfort or cold.
That's really good to hear that; I hate being cold.
Would try to study you, maybe youd try to study him?? (Would try to study each other secretly??)
We'd probably end up constantly psychoanalyzing each other, to be honest. Just to find each other's weak spots and gain the upper hand. It's also a way to show our interest—deep, endless analysis about a subject, even if it means losing sleep over it.
It would take so long for Kaiser to admit he likes someone (aka you) but it would happen eventually.
I picture him as the kind of guy who shows his love through violence and degradation, since that's the only way he knows how to communicate.
On his birthday, (dec.25/typically christmas day) if you tried to cook him his favorite food, bread crust rusk, he would be in pure shock, Kaiser would not know how to react. (In a good way)
I'll cook him chicken with potatoes.
Honestly Kaiser would play with your hair and mess it up, kind of aggressively if im being honest, but would be SO gentle if you were sleeping and he was playing with your hair
And I'd gladly play with his.
Kaiser would say multiple times he would be able to support the both of you financially, however, i think you would be independent and want to work, Kaiser would respect that but remind you there is always an option to lean back on him.
Honestly, we'd probably spend all our money on food and travel.
As for Ness, I get your point. If Kaiser exists, then Ness wouldn't pay attention to me. But in a world where Kaiser doesn't exist but I do, then the story would definitely repeat itself.
Thank you so much for this matchup, you're really good at this. I'd love to do another exchange in the future. It was a delight to read during my lunch break!
Match up, for.. @tigreblvnc!
From reading about your personality, i would say you’d be best with a s/o who can hold their own in a intellectual conversation with you, someone who can entertain you, but at the same time have a deep conversation with!
(Scroll all the way down for actual results)
possible candidates-
1st runner up.. Tabito karasu!
Karasu’s sharp witted, and charismatic, he would directly contrast your well grounded and goal-oriented personality, while still holding similar views and interest as you. However, while you prefer precision and intellectual depth, his playfulness could bring out a more relaxed version you!
Pro:
You and Karasu would go on a lot of adventurous dates, ex: amusement parks, outdoor activities, and escape rooms, esc.
I could see so much late night deep talks with you and him.
If you got upset abt something, like someone who pisses you off, and you wanted to rant abt it, Karasu would listen in pure delight.
Con:
You might get mad if Karasu doesn’t take situations seriously.
His insecurities might be a problem for you, I dont see him as a type of person to reflect these feelings in a relationship, so if you 2 discuss about these feelings, or if he manages theses feelings by himself, I don’t see there being a problem.
2nd runner up.. Sae itoshi!
This was a rather unexpected as a matchup for me, however the more i thought about it, the more i thought this could be a good match! Things like, ambition, both confident/not scared to confront someone, and the same ability to analyze people!
I could imagine this matchup that would encourage emotional growth, and one of intellectual challenge,
Fun headcanon(s):
You two would secretly be so protective over each other
like someone is bothering you or being stupid, and you just didn’t have the energy to combat them, Sae would straight up tell the person to shut up and leave without a second thought 😭
Fashion would complement each other.
You like traveling? Well i have good news for you.
Would also be interested in trying different dishes.
He would buy so much lavish bs for you
like a ridiculous amount
He would be giving, small, but thoughtful gifts.
3rd runner up.. Isagi Yoichi!
Ok, so, definitely a back and forth, hate and love relationship between you and Isagi on field, would he possibly hate crime you if you tease him constantly (which you love doing)? Probably, but would you two still have a respectful relationship where both parties can learn from each other? Yes!
Despite you having similarities to Kaiser and Karasu, I would argue that you’re more grounded and mature, which would probably make Isagi like you better, regardless if your on field or off.
Fun heacanon(s):
You 2 would help each other learn
Would trend on blue lock tv/live
He would admire so much how you can stand up/confront people in injustice, especially if they are higher ranking, or “superior”.
Con(s):
I dont see isagi traveling alot
Final results.. Michael Kaiser!
Lmao are you surprised? So, out of everyone in blue lock i think you’re the most similar to Kaiser, it kinda scared me at first. But, because you’re so similar to Kaiser, in personality and hobbies, i think you’d be the best match for Kaiser in all of Blue Lock!
Kaiser’s need to act likes he’s better than others, and your aggressive way of confronting people, would make Kaiser more than interested in you, whether you do it to him, or even your own teammates, but, despite Kaisers arrogance and how he’d totally bother you, he admires how you hold your own in a fight for your beliefs.
Kaiser’s cocky and confident personality would match your direct and blunt nature, i would definitely see you two constantly challenge each other’s ideas, opinions, and even small decisions, usually all in good fun!
Fun headcanon(s):
Would be giving love-hate relationship.
Would DEFINITELY travel with you, i could definitely see Kaiser and you seeing all over the world, both learning about the historical significance of the country, and the social construct in said country, (i think he would particularly like France, in the French Revolution)
On the topic of traveling, he would LOVE to show you around Berlin, Germany (maybe even the slums he grew up around if he trusts you enough)
if you were cold, or even if it was just slightly cold, (50f/10c or colder for reference) Kaiser would give his jacket/scarf to you, regardless of if you say anything or not, he’d notice if you were in any discomfort or cold.
Would try to study you, maybe youd try to study him??
(Would try to study each other secretly??)
It would take so long for Kaiser to admit he likes someone (aka you) but it would happen eventually.
I think you try are help kaiser to become a over all healthier person. Not in a way that will completely change him, but in a way where he’ll be able to process emotions without planning on murking the person.
On his birthday, (dec.25/typically christmas day) if you tried to cook him his favorite food, bread crust rusk, he would be in pure shock, Kaiser would not know how to react. (In a good way)
Honestly Kaiser would play with your hair and mess it up, kind of aggressively if im being honest, but would be SO gentle if you were sleeping and he was playing with your hair
Would be viewed as that one power couple, from your intellects to your clothing style.
Kaiser would say multiple times he would be able to support the both of you financially, however, i think you would be independent and want to work, Kaiser would respect that but remind you there is always an option to lean back on him.
Bonus! i wanted to add Ness to your matchup but i honestly have no idea if Ness would hate or love you.
Omg 😭 im honestly disappointed with how i did on your match up, i took way longer than i usually take, and the way i described you seems so repetitive.
+ i tried to incorporate everything you told me in your matchup so somethings might seem out of place.
I made some references in Kaisers part, if you need a refresher or don’t know, check out Kaisers profile from the egoist bibles.
Thanks 💕 dm for any questions!

Kind of endearing that despite their obvious strained dynamic Utahime and Gojo trust each other
#It's sort of like Nanami and Gojo's dynamic but Nanami ignores him and Utahime is incensed#Despite how irresponsible Gojo is she doesn't doubt Gojo is telling her the truth#He was extremely rude with her about her being weak and lacking the guts to be the traitor#But in part I guess he was messing up with her. In part I guess he trusts her too#And that's sort of endearing#Again a bit like what Nanami and Gojo have going on#But Utahime seems to dislike Gojo more than Nanami does#Utahime and Gojo seem to have a bit that fondness you develop for stains on a wall. A stain or a patch that wasn't quite well painted#But that has accompanied you through your entire childhood for instance. Your father painted the room and you chose that exact blue colour#but there's a patch that wasn't well painted. It's in a corner and no one noticed it but you know it's there and it annoys you#And it's there during your childhood perhaps. It's there during your teens years#It lives through the posters changing and the heartbreak and the friendships being born and dying and it's always there#It always annoys you but it's always there.And when you leave home for college or whatever you put your life in boxes and move the furniture#and finally you look at the stain and for one moment‚ for one instant before covering it with a fresh layer of painting‚ you look at it#And in that instant you almost kind of feel fondness for that stain. For that constant through your life. Even if it annoyed you#That's sort of the air Utahime and Gojo give me haha#I don't know. The intimacy of constancy if nothing else is something I love#That knowing each other because of the years in common and knowing where you both went through. And that almost fondness it brings at times#Heathcliff with Hindley and sort of Edgar. Charles and Adam. Or that one classmate you quite didn't like entirely and were never close to#but if one says something the other would understand it's a reference to the French teacher you had in the second year of middle school#and reply in kind. And laugh perhaps. And in that moment you could almost imagine you could have been friends#Well. That kind of vibe Utahime and Gojo give me. Which is. I don't know. It's kind of cute?#In the context of the madness of this Jujutsu world#I'm overall loving the glimpses we see into the dynamic Gojo has with the adults in his life#I think his dynamic with Ijichi is my favourite for now. Surprised I don't see them more in a shippy context#with how much I see Gojo and Nanami or Gojo and Utahime and even Gojo and Shoko. Perhaps it's because ijichi isn't hot? I mean#I would understand that. It's a factor too. But I love that Gojo trusts him more than anything and I like that Ijichi understands him#and his kindness beyond his rudeness and I am biased and love the Megumi parallel. Not into the 'or I will slap you' thing though but okay#ANYWAY yeah xD I love Gojo's dynamics with the adults. I love when he sulked because Nanami told him gave the finger to the higher ups to#avoid Gojo giving it to Yuji but that despite and precisely for that Gojo SMILED and said 'I am glad I left you in change of him'. Love him

The Royai moments the anime adaptations left out bc they are COWARDS
(I believe in fma manga supremacy)
Riza's Grandpa asks Roy to marry her.
So this one needs outside material to explain, but Arakawa confirmed in the 2nd Guidebook (released only in Japanese and French) that Grumman is Riza's maternal grandfather. Not necessarily a big Royai moment but, still it's interesting how Riza's only known living family ships it, and that Roy doesn't exactly say "no" to his request.
I am forever fascinated as to why any of this exists in the first place, what did you mean by this Arakawa? why have Grumman make this suggestion in the first place? 👀👀👀👀👀👀 What were you suggesting? 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
Anyway, I wish we had an in-text confirmation of Riza's relation to Grumman and I wish this moment had come back to the story at some point. Even if it was just Riza glaring at Grumman being like "Grandpa why are you trying to marry me off?????"
2. Roy's "Get your hands off my wife!" moment.
He really said, "is he bothering you queen?" I wish we had more protective Roy and frankly, I don't understand how this scene didn't make it to Brotherhood? Riza was getting manhandled by a tin can and clearly not into it. The fact that a tin can serial killer developed a crush on her is concerning to begin with. It just wouldn't be in character for Roy to be cool with this. Roy is also a jealous boyfriend, what can I say?
3. The "I'm glad you're alive" moment.
For some dumb reason, Brotherhood changed this so when Riza apologises for worrying him, he just snaps "save it for the end of the mission!" Like, why Brotherhood? why would Roy ever snap at Riza like that? especially when Riza is generally the one who is laser-focused on the mission. Roy has enough faith in her, he's not going to see this brief apology as her being distracted or less competent. The manga dialogue is also meant to show how Maes's death is still a fresh wound for Roy, so of course he's on edge at the prospect of losing Riza too.
4. He literally asks her out
I feel like both anime adaptations really wanted Roy to be more of a womaniser than he actually is. But this scene lowkey confirms Roy has limited game and he only really wants Riza. It feels like dude jumped at the opportunity to ask Riza out the moment she technically stopped being his subordinate.
5. Roy's codename for Riza actually coming back
Seriously, I love how Arakawa took the time to establish "Elizabeth" as Riza's codename only to use it later to have Madame Christmas suggest that Roy regularly spends time with "Elizabeth" to the point where it's weird that he isn't with her now. And then, when Roy bemoans how "another man took Elizabeth" (an obvious reference to Riza being taken hostage by Bradley) one of Christmas's girls gets excited at the idea she might have a chance with Roy. The suggestion is that Roy isn't normally available on account of his seeing Elizabeth.
It's a strong hint to the idea that Riza and Roy might have *something* going on and are bypassing the fraternization laws through codes. At the very least it suggests that Roy isn't interested in anyone but "Elizabeth". Also look how bummed out he is that his wife is gone. Why did the anime rob us of so much pathetic whipped Roy? WHY?
6. Just a lot more touching in general
There's actually a lot of touching between these two in the manga. It's mostly during the big fights like the Promised Day or the battle with Lust and it really cements them as a true battle couple.
In the case of the Promised day they are literally fighting in each other's arms. Riza is leaning on Roy as she's on the verge of passing out from her wounds, and Roy is clinging onto her now that she has become his eyes. The way they hold each other shows how they are each other's crutch and how one always empowers the other. It also symbolises how inseparable these two are as moments ago Roy was at the Gate and before that Riza was on the brink of death, they could have lost in each other for good but they're still standing strong together in spite of everything.
The post-Lust fight is just a nice moment were Roy clings onto Riza out of sheer relief that she's okay and he hasn't lost another loved one. Even though he's on the verge of passing out from pain and blood loss, he still finds the strength to reach out to her.
Then there's the scene in the tunnels where he lowers her gun for her. The noticeable difference in the manga is that he does this after he takes off his ignition gloves.
The anime forgets to do this. It seems like a minor difference but it's kind of a big point of characterisation. Because we know that Riza has been hurt by flame alchemy, from the process of having the tattoo done to her by a trusted parental figure at a young age, to the trauma of seeing how much damage it did at ishval, to her very literally being burned by the flames so that it won't do anymore damage. Roy is the one who burned her, he's the one who used her secret to do unspeakable damage and suffering, why would he hurt her again by letting her go anywhere near flame alchemy?
My final thoughts: Manga Roy is altogether more dorky and in love with Riza than his anime counterparts and I miss his adorkable self.
I also feel like Arakawa was so good at subtly hinting at how in love these two are and how they basically *do* function like a couple even if they might not be together in the conventional het married with babies way.
#fullmetal alchemist#royai#riza hawkeye#roy mustang#manga#hiromu arakawa#long post#and i mean#long ass post#gushing and ranting#ramblings

Okay, so with Quackity Studios tweeting about adding new people and the need for tolerance and patience with people who don't speak English, let's just take a second and have a chat about what that's gonna look like.
First: you will hear things or read things on the translator that hurt or offend you.
This is inevitable. Do not immediately post about it. What you need tolerance for is hearing things that hurt or offend you and what you need patience for is figuring out of malicious intent was present or if this is a hill worth dying on right now.
As an example, we're pretty sure at this point that Korean is gonna be the next language added. The second person pronoun in Korean sounds a lot like the n-word in English. The n-word in English, if you're not aware, is like the single most offensive slur we have. It's not something that you want to hear unexpectedly. But also, if we get Koreans, they're gonna be using the word for "you" and English speakers are gonna have to be able to tolerate that.
On the other side of things, Korean has a complex system of honorifics and addressing someone without an honorific would be considered very forward and intimate at least if not very rude. None of the QSMP languages have honorifics though and only French really retains formality* so no one else is going to address them with honorifics unless they specifically explain it to people and walk them through it. That will probably be weird and uncomfortable for them and they're going to have to be able to tolerate that.
*Spanish and Portuguese do technically have formal vs informal but it's disappearing quickly in both of them.
These natural cultural clashes and pain points are going to be harder to overcome since we also know that at least some of these creators won't speak English at all so they can't just switch to English to helpfully explain things to us easily in a way we understand. We're going to have to deal.
So here's the thing: just because there can be cultural miscommunications and mistranslations, that doesn't mean that people can't also be assholes. How do you distinguish between the two?
Step One: Assume good faith. Assume that everyone in a given encounter is trying to communicate respectfully and compassionately and that a failure to do so can be overcome
Step Two: Don't get involved. Especially not in Twitch Chat. Two or more people trying to communicate through a language barrier does not get easier when they're also trying to wrangle hostile viewers.
Step Three: Are you sure you heard what you thought you heard or saw what you thought you saw? Did the translator fuck up? Is it a word that just coincidentally happens to sound like another word? If this is the case, the streamers can ask for clarification or use another tool and get it cleared up. Keep watching and see if they do.
Step Four: If they did say what you thought they said, are the streamers handling it? We had a thing a while back where Bad called some friends, including Bagi and Etoiles, uncultured because they didn't get a reference he was making and Etoiles was like "bro I'm French" and Bad apologized. That should have been the end of it, but I had to see people arguing about it for weeks. The problem was solved in 10 seconds.
Step Five: If the person is doubling down, are you sure this is something you can fix by yelling about it on Twitter or Tumblr? Would it be better to let people who actually know them talk to them behind the scenes? Pierre made a few missteps in the beginning of the server, Quackity said they had a chat, Pierre hasn't misstepped since. It's just easier to sort things out in private, one on one conversation than yelling at someone in public.
In short: it's fine to take note of behavior in case patterns start to emerge in it, but yelling on social media about how so and so is the worst person possible is not constructive.

Hi, can I have a sugar cookie, #16, with chocolate drizzle?
o7
order #16, sugar with chocolate drizzle
*ੈ✩‧₊˚ it'll pass
tropes: exes to lovers characters: leona additional info: romantic, gender neutral reader, reader is yuu, post-nrc, a little bittersweet, for those thinking they wouldn't forgive him and would marry rook instead, I understand, yes this is a fleabag reference <3
That question, that bitter uncertainty that had caged itself in your chest, behind your ribs, by your heart, had not passed.
It will pass, you had said, your friends had said, even he had said it himself.
It'll pass.
And then, the question. But what if it doesn't?
What if you never forget Leona Kingscholar?
What will you do with this love, now that there's no one to give it to?
It becomes grief, and pain. Bitterness, anger, resentment, longing, desire.
It becomes a secret, it becomes a question.
But what if it doesn't?
You had, at first, slept too much; but then that reminded you of him, and you stopped sleeping altogether.
You began writing, not fiction, nor letters, but your thoughts, if only to get them on paper and out of your head.
Most days, they were nonsense. A procession of words and feelings with no meaning, nor sense, nor relationship between one another.
Bird, television, cold, knocking, tired, tired, tired...
It always ended with that.
And it always began with Why? Why, what? Why did he leave you? Why didn't you stop him? Why can't you move on? Why any of these things?
It was strange.
You were the one destined to leave. When you and Leona fell in love, in your years at Night Raven College, that threat loomed over you both.
One day, you would leave.
Leona still became yours. He was the one constant in your life, the only person you could really rely on. He cared about you, more than he'd ever admit.
Likewise, he had never said that he wanted you to stay, but you knew he did.
It didn't matter. Crowley never found a way home, or perhaps he did, and didn't tell you, but again, it didn't matter. You graduated NRC, and went to Leona.
You were happy, too.
And then he was suddenly betrothed to a duchess, to have a family he never wanted, in a position he resented, and that was that.
It'll pass.
That's all he had said when you told him you loved him.
"I love you,"
"It'll pass,"
You wanted him to stay, like he did to you.
It'll pass.
You became despondent, sleepless. You found shelter and companionship in the form of an affluent Rook Hunt, when you had no one else to call.
But he, too, must leave. For months, the villa is empty, and it's only you and your disconnected words and your paper and the night.
One day, there's a letter for you.
Not for Rook, or for the household, but for you.
It has no name, no initials, no return address. It's not signed. It's typed. It says:
French, confused, nosy, prick, soft, missing, quiet.
So on, so forth. Hundreds of those words, meaningless and senseless and yet special, precious, worthy.
You hold the letter to your heart and the ink smudges on your sweaty hands.
There's another the next day. Quiet, manners, hate, missing, windows, dark.
And one more after that.
Boring, empty, doves, missing, water, spoon.
They come, one after the other, until Rook returns at the end of the month, freckled from the sun and tired from his work.
"Ah... an admirer?" he had asked, listening to you read the letters aloud.
"They aren't from you?"
"From me? Heh. I like to think my prose is a little more cohesive, non?"
You wake the next morning to breakfast, courtesy of Rook, and a letter, courtesy of the wind.
This one only has one word on it.
Sorry.
No more come after that.
The news that Prince Leona had broken off his engagement to the wealthy duchess reaches you in your remote room, through the sharp eyes and upturned lips of a certain Rook Hunt.
Unhappy, was the word, this time.
It was bitterly poetic. Unhappy. It reminded you of something you had written, but when you went looking for that, you were met with an empty sheet of stamps, and a drawer with no paper in it.
"You must forgive me," Rook had said, "I could not bear to see you both suffer so."
The mysterious letters, your "admirer", suddenly make sense.
The next day, another letter comes. But this one is special; it's attached to a hand, that of a certain Leona Kingscholar.
This one, too, has a full sentence.
I love you too.

BNHA Guys Reacting to Your Kids Cartoons and Movies
Kids shows and movies say some pretty out of pocket things that you usually won’t catch or find funny unless you’re an adult
Characters Included: Bakugo and Kirishima
Part 2
Bakugo
As Bakugo arrived home he couldn’t help but sigh deeply as he stretched out the stress of the hectic work day. As he turned his key in the door, he didn’t hear the usual loud noise coming from inside the house as you struggled to wrangle the kids into bed. He had hoped that you had gotten them to settle with no issue tonight but his hopes were not high. His brats were terribly energetic at night.
As he strides into the house, hanging his keys on the hook by the door to avoid the hassle of looking for them in the morning he hears the faint sound of the tv coming from the family room. The lights were off but as he got closer he saw the flashing lights of the television. The ash blond man peered into the family room and smiled slightly as he saw his two sons sitting at the coffee table munching on chicken nuggets and some french fries. One had ketchup and one had ranch despite them both being exact carbon copies of him and each other he found it kind of funny that they were quite the opposite of each other when it came to the little things like that.
He decided against nagging them for being up so late. At least they weren’t fighting and that’s all he cared about to be completely honest. He couldn’t imagine having to deal with the bickering after the long day he had. He was about to walk to the kitchen to fix something quick to eat when something on the television caught his attention. The boys were watching ratatouille and the scene where Linguine is attempting to explain his little chef to Colette was on.
“I have this tiny… little…” the character attempts to reveal the rat in his hat that is the secret to his cooking success. Bakugo watches as the woman’s eyes advert down with a slightly disgusted look referring to something more suggestive and he can’t help but bust out laughing causing the boys to turn around with confused looks on their faces
“What?” His oldest son whom was only 8 years old questions him as his 6 year old brother has the same confused look on his features as they watch their father laugh at something that they couldn’t understand. “N-Nothing” he wipes a tear from the corner of his eye “Ah that’s great” he shakes his head as he walks into the kitchen while continuing to laugh.
“What’s so funny?” You raise an eyebrow as you close the dishwasher and start it. As he explains the scene to you, you can’t help but lightly laugh and shake your head at his immaturity for dirty jokes
Kirishima
You had been out all day. Despite it being your day off you dropped your son off at school this morning, cleaned the entire house, and ran errands until it was time to pick Renji up from school and even then you still had to take him grocery shopping with you. As you walked into the house, cloth grocery bags on each arm you sighed deeply “I helped you mommy!” Your son smiles widely as he hold one of the bags. “Yes you did honey!” You explain as you both set the bags down in the kitchen yours on the island and his on the floor as he could not reach the island just yet.
“Go watch some TV while mommy gets dinner ready, yeah?” You smile at him and he nods “Okay Mommy!” He skips off to the television room that also doubles as his play room so you knew he’d be able to indulge in some of his toys and television while you worked on dinner
You breathed out in relief as you removed your heels. You hated heels even if they were short, you just had to look your best out in public. You couldn’t bare the idea of the media and tabloids saying anything about your appearance so you had made sure to always look your best. Some other pro hero’s wife’s may not care but you did. Maybe it was a bad thing but it would send you spiraling if there was a bad picture of you in the internet.
“Hey I’m home!” You hear your husband call out as he walks into the parlor of your large house. He put his shoes by the door and hangs his coat on the hook. “How’s my beautiful wife?” He gives you a kiss on your forehead “Did you enjoy your day off?” He inquired and you shook your head no. He looks taken aback by this response “No?” He questioned “But why?”
“Oh Eiji, I’ve just been running around all day doing errands” you sigh “I could really use a few minutes” you say as you complete putting away the groceries together. “Mhm” he nods “Do you need anything from me?” He questions and you nod “Yeah, can you watch Renji? He’s in the family room” you explain “Of course, anything for my lovely lady” he gives you a quick kiss and ushers you to go take a warm shower
“But what about dinner?” You ask as you both stand at the foot of the staircase that leads to the upstairs bedrooms “Don’t you worry about anything baby, I’ve got it all handled” he grins as you nod and start your journey up the stairs to the master bedroom.
As Ejirou walks to the doorway of the family room the movie that his son is watching catches his eye. He has always been a sucker for kids movies even as an adult. Renji was watching Toy Story and there was a scene between Woody and Bow Peep “I wanted to thank you for saving my flock” the porcelain doll speaks to the cowboy doll “Oh hey, it was nothing” he shrugs “What do you say I get someone else to watch the sheep tonight” she speaks in a tone almost too sultry for a kids movie “Oh yeah” he chuckles and the scene can’t help but make Kirishima chuckle a little bit
“What’s so funny dad?” The 7 year old turns with a confused look on his face “Nothing that just reminds me of me and your mom” he laughs to himself before walking to the kitchen to start dinner

I don't think we talk about kevjean in the banquets enough
Kevin is soft with Jean's name in his mouth. Jean had to smile at Kevin to taunt him at the bequest of Riko, probably to show faux hatred towards Kevin for leaving the Ravens so no one catches on what exactly he felt for Kevin. Happiness he left Riko and could finally prove he was better but bitterness because he left Jean there in the Nest, knowing damn well what Riko would have done to him.
The fact that both of them stared at each other with nothing to say. Kevin and Jean, who used to never have enough time to finish conversations and never sat in silence in the Nest when they were alone, turned into strangers overnight. They had to wait until Riko was away to actually indulge in meaningful conversation that was so rare yet grounding for both of them in the Nest.
Jean was probably forcing himself to tear his eyes away from Kevin as he spoke to Neil and let his eyes roam when Riko was distracted in antagonising the Foxes.
This was probably something he was forced to say. Do you think Riko made Jean do the talking first because he maybe knew that Kevin had a soft spot for him? The You won't stay might be referring to how Kevin wouldn't stay with the Foxes, but I like that it also implies that Jean maybe still has some hope that Kevin would come back to them, to him. It sounds like most of his words are straight from Riko, but you can see the underlying plea in Jean's words.
He antagonizes Andrew mainly because he doesn't understand why Kevin would leave him for Andrew. He doesn't understand their relationship, and it gnaws at him that maybe Kevin meant much more to him than he ever did to Kevin. He's reminded of how Kevin used French against him and wonders whether their little tryst was nothing but a closed off street at Kevin's end. Spiralling, Jean allows himself to unfold and spit out his venom and jealousy to the Foxes; particularly the one that stole Kevin away from him.
This is arguably my favourite scene in the second banquet. Although it's short, it really puts into perspective their entire relationship within like 2 paragraphs. (That's reaching but you get what I mean.)
First off, let's talk about how Jean doesn't register Riko's words at first. He doesn't respond to 'Take Kevin and leave us'. I believe this is because previously, Riko would rather tear his own hand off than allow Jean and Kevin to be in the same room alone without Riko. So this comes as a shock for him. It's a fleeting moment, and he thinks he probably just imagined Riko's words.
Seized is a strong word, and I believe it speaks a lot at how desperate Jean was to even converse with Kevin in the banquet at all. Perhaps he gave a wide berth because he half expected Riko to strike him down for even attempting to seize Kevin and take him away. Seized literally means he forcibly pulled Kevin's arm towards him, and Kevin did not budge. He didn't complain, grunt out, or even do anything as he let Jean grab his arm. (I can just imagine Jean with his chest pressed against Kevin's arm speedwalking away, and I find it so adorably heartbreaking)
Jean also moves as fast as he can, showing that he wants to get away as soon as possible with Riko far, far behind them. He wants alone time with Kevin. He just wants to talk to him without the Ravens or Foxes breathing down his neck.
I genuinely wonder what Kevin would be thinking at this moment. What would he feel as the boy he left behind the Nest is taking him by the arm and pulling away from his abuser; this time, when he leaves, Jean was with him. Does he think about how easy it is to just leave with Jean beside him? Does he also want to grab onto Jean and not let go of fear of what Riko would do to him when Kevin is not there? Can he feel Jean's body heat as a stupid reminder that he's still alive and not bleeding out from Riko's scars?
Jean, going still at Dan and Matt's approach, could also signify that he fully expected to be punished for even latching himself onto Kevin, like Kevin was a sin he was foolish enough to be addicted to. I just want to know Dan and Matt's expression as they see Jean grasping onto Kevin so tightly, like, what do they see? Do they see Riko's dog doing it's masters bidding, or do they see Jean for who he is; a boy irrevocably in love with someone he can never ever have. A boy so desperate that even few seconds in the banquet keeps him going for a few days after.
Jean grasping onto Kevin could honestly mean a multitude of things, but I like to see it as Jean finally understanding that Kevin is not meant to be in evermore, isn't meant to be a comforting solace patching up his wounds when his thumbs were broken and unable to stitch himself up. But Jean still wanted to be selfish. He wanted to be in Kevin's life. He wanted Kevin to see him as Jean Moreau, a hopeless boy in love with the only person that ever gave him care. Not Jean Moreau of Perfect Court, number 3 the country's greatest backliner because Kevin only saw him on the court after he left evermore. So he stubbornly clung onto Kevin as his past as his future, aka the Foxes, came to collect his due from Jean; essentially handing over the one thing that kept him going throughout the Nest.
And I find it cute that Matt and Dan didn't shoo Jean off. They let him stay with Kevin. Maybe because they could see the tragedy in his eyes or the way Kevin was calm and placcid beside him, which was weird because Kevin gets anxious literally around EVERY Raven.

it is i, the person who sent in the french highlights from yesterday!! i'm so happy you read my ask!!
i actually also understand japanese so some highlights from that version too!
not that much of shipping fodder but I found this interesting in terms of character writing: in the end of Episode 5 Burning Spice says this to Golden Cheese before he rips her wings: “Ruler of a fallen kingdom. I now know why you couldn’t leave a mark in history. You… feel/care too much for those which would one day all become dust.” (i believe the exact word he uses refers to specifically people and not material things)
unfortunately no version of "little bird" here (crying) but he does still refer to capturing her as "Operation Bird Hunt"
your hc that he can sense her aura??? it's real in this version!! Burning Spice repeatedly mentions trying to sense/feel around for her presence/signs of her
He specifically says to Nutmeg Tiger/his army to "Absolutely do not lay a hand on Golden Cheese Cookie."
Burning Spice repeatedly does this thing where he says something about Golden Cheese and then says "I like that about you!" (example below)
this line he says to her: "Unable to escape the fate of history, your pitiful form still continuing to struggle about… I love it!! I want to destroy you so much I'm going insane!!!"
WHAT. JAIL.
i wish i could send screenshots anonymously orz
Bruh lol
Devsisters stop pussyfooting around and make Burning Spice admit that he has a crush on Golden Cheese challenge [IMPOSSIBLE]
Golden Cheese: *does literally anything at all*
Burning Spice: YES! YES!!! I LOVE THIS ABOUT YOU!!! YOU DRIVE ME CRAZY!!!
Imagine being down so bad for somebody that you develop simp powers that let you feel where she's been, even after she already left. Couldn't be me
I almost wish someone actually did hurt Golden Cheese in some way, just to see Burning Spice go ballistic over it lol. Bird Wife mine, nobody touch Bird Wife but me
Thank you so much for this lol. If anyone else is able and willing to comb through episode 6 in whatever other languages there are and feed us all more ship fuel then I shall reward you handsomely

Ancestors and The Bear
Phew, the discourse in season 3 of The Bear on legacy was STUNNING to me. This post by @gingergofastboatsmojito and episodes 3x01 Tomorrow and 3x07 Legacy have been sitting on my heart since I finished my binge of the show. Some thoughts under the cut. (I say "some" but this is another long ass post, soz).
If seasons 1 and 2 of The Bear went into the impact of our birth families on each of us, season 3 shifted pretty squarely to talking about the impact of our professional mentors on our lives. I've described those mentors as culinary ancestors, which as a concept I get into below. I loved this aspect of this season and the show generally. It is so rich and I feel like I'm only going to scratch the surface of it here. Keen to hear others' thoughts on this too.
Legacy and Ancestry
In 3x07 Legacy, Carmy talks to Marcus about the idea of legacy in the context of chefs he had worked with - how those chefs had talked to him about how their work would carry on through iterations and generations of subsequent chefs and restaurants that came after them. I'll include both a transcript and screenshots of this conversation below:
Carmy: Like, um, something would start somewhere, and then, uh, people would take that thing and then they would take it somewhere else. So, all these parts of an original restaurant, they would end up at a new restaurant and that kind of thing. That would happen over and over again. And then all these parts of all these restaurants, they would sort of-- You know, they would find each other. And then new people would take those parts and they would put 'em into their restaurant. And the whole thing, it would, um-- It would start to happen all over again.
Marcus: So, like a family tree or something?
Carmy: [looks to Syd who has her back to him, closing her locker] Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
Most folks understand ancestry to refer to our family or genetic lineage. When I was in university, I learned about intellectual ancestors or genealogy: where one can trace your intellectual lineage - the thinkers and creators that have shaped your understanding of the world and/or your chosen profession. I think its useful to take this concept and apply it to The Bear to help understand what the show is saying about legacy. I wouldn't limit the concept to "intellectual" ancestry though. It might be more helpful to talk about culinary ancestors in this context because the process of creating food - crafting dishes - isn't solely an intellectual exercise. It engages our intellect yes, but also each of our senses, our memories (recall that chocolate banana from 2x10 The Bear), and the need to nurture and be nurtured.
Culinary Ancestors
Carmy's culinary ancestors are varied given his work history. We know he's cooked under some of the best chefs in the culinary world of The Bear, including: Daniel Boulud (of Daniel), René Redzepi (of NOMA), Thomas Keller (of The French Laundry), David Field (a sociopathic Joel McHale, of Eleven Madison Park), and Andrea Terry (a sublime Olivia Colman, of Ever). I'd also include here Mikey, Donna and Natalie Berzatto. I'd include cousins Richie Jeremovich and Michelle Berzatto as well. These are the home and line cooks Carm grew up with, watched in his mother's kitchen and at The Beef. He took his lessons - the good and the bad, learnt voluntarily and involuntarily - from all of these people, incorporated them into his working self and transmuted them into his food.
In particular, I've talked here about Chef Terry and the valuable lesson of "every second counts" that she carried with her as she mentored waves of chefs through her restaurant, Ever. That post also talks about the parallels between Terry and Syd (which were even more evident in season 3), the latter of whom I'd argue is also one of Carmy's culinary ancestors ("you make me better at this").
I wish we had more information about Sydney and her influences. We know that prior to The Beef, she worked at restaurants Smoque BBQ, Alinea and Avec. We meet at least one of her mentors, Chicago restauranteur Donnie Madia in 2x03 Sundae and 2x10 The Bear, as well as Nayia at the fictional Verdana French Bistro (which ends up closing by 2x09 Omelette). They each offer up small insights into Sydney: that her food is amazing and that she is always "trying to be the best." Carmy is also undoubtedly one of Sydney's culinary ancestors, as infuriating and withholding as he can be. I'm also certain that Sydney's parents and the cultural history/ies that she's inherited through them are part of her culinary lineage as well. I really, really hope that we get much more insight into this side of her next season.
Respect, mentorship and lineage
One of the things that first drew me to The Bear was the respect that the show gave its characters of colour. In particular, the opportunity and support given to people of colour from a working class operation like The Beef to continue into the fine dining world of The Bear. I've spoken a bit about this here.
I haven't seen a dynamic on television before, where folks from the backgrounds like the POC characters in The Bear are from, are backed in the way they are on the show. Where there are mentors who will invest in them to train them up, and who will take those folks with them as they move into more elite and skilled spaces. Hell, I have barely seen this happen in the roughly two decades that I've been in wage-earning employment myself. Lets be clear, capitalism does not incentivise this kind of shit. Its why certain industries, including the world of fine dining, remain largely if not completely exclusive, demarcated by gender, race and class.
Yes this season was fucked in terms of which characters were getting prioritised for screen time over key Black characters like Sydney and Marcus (the Faks can genuinely go fuck). The lack of care given to Marcus, in particular, whose mother's passing was treated almost perfunctorily in comparison to a wholly unnecessary conversation amongst the entire crew about Cl@ire in 3x02 Next (quoting Richie: "who cares?!"), was also fucked. I would have preferred to have spent more time with Syd, Marcus, Tina, Ebraheim, Sweeps, Manny and Angel than listening to Neil, Ted and fucking Sammy (?!) Fak blather their way through precious minutes during this show.
But even with the above, The Bear regularly manages to floor me with beautiful moments of mentorship, leadership and love featuring characters of colour on the show. This is particularly the case in the relationships between culinary ancestors Carm and Sydney with "descendants" Marcus and Tina.
Birth of the The Bear lineage
Recall 1x08 Braciole where Sydney tells Marcus that after she finished culinary school, she spent all her money eating her way through New York. She says that she had the best meal she's ever eaten while she was there. With Marcus' gentle prodding, we find out that the person who created that meal, was Carmy.
Its not until the first episode of season 3 when we see how this actually played out, for both Carmy and Syd. I won't rehash the details of this scene because it is truly beautiful filmmaking to behold. Please if you haven't already, go watch 3x01 in its entirety. Have tissues nearby.
I will say, that in the best meal Syd ever had, Carmy literally served up his heart and lifeblood (check the cut of the fish, the crimson of the blood orange decoction).
That meal - that seed of inspiration from Carmy - birthed something in Sydney, something that would push her to find Carmy much later, working at his brother's sandwich shop.
Together these two incredibly talented chefs started their own lineage, taking what they knew and investing it into The Beef and eventually, The Bear:
And then, the next generation of collaboration and inspiration emerges:
This is why the visuals in 3x01 Tomorrow, with Syd sitting in quiet contemplation of Carm's dish, are so poignant. From 1x01 System, Carm and Syd have been growing their branch of their shared culinary family tree, nurturing it alongside those of their respective ancestors:
In 3x01 Tomorrow, we see that tree literally emerging from the moment Sydney meets Carm, on a plate.
It all starts when Sydney leaves culinary school and decides to make the most of her time in New York, eating at every place she could think of including, at Eleven Madison Park. And when Carmen, after losing Mikey, decides to make a few seconds count, taking ownership of a dish that he knows is going to be stolen from him and bastardized otherwise. The rest is history, or legacy.
Author's note:
I just wanted to draw attention to the fact that this show is also an exercise of mentorship and collaboration: Ayo Edebiri directing 3x06 Napkins under the guidance of Calo and Storer. Ramy Youssef directing 2x04 Honeydew under the guidance of Storer who had previously directed him on and produced Ramy. The fucking force of nature that is veteran Liza Colón Zayas being directed by Ayo. Jeremy describing the filming of 2x06 Fishes as akin to watching masters at work. Of course any television production is a collaborative effort and there are countless names I'm not familiar with who have put their precious time and energy into making this beautiful thing. I just thought it worth mentioning that at times, this show glimmers with truths, and I think thats because, in some way, they're in the marrow of the thing.

Hi! How are you doing? Sorry to bother you, but i dont know many scottish people and idk who to talk to about this book I found on audible. It's called Imogène, by french author Charles Exbrayat. Do you know him /the book? I've started reading it but I had to pause because, while being sold as a "humorous spy story" I find the protagonist, a "very proudly scottish" woman, to be... an offensive caricature? Like she acts like a fool, honestly. This book contains some interesting points about sexism (it was published in 1959), and ridiculous british habits (such as employees forced to give money for princess anna's birthday or being socially scorned). I'm sure the shared dislike / distrust the protagonist and her british colleagues feel are (were?) realistic. But she is so extra, and the story keeps telling how lonely she is, even after working 20 years in london. She has No friends, most acquitances dont talk to her for various motivations, her bosses hates her ... idk I feel this book is actually mocking scottish people? Or scottish women??? I was SO there for a "strong woman protagonist who gives cutting remarks to her boss or peers", but this looks wrong. Idk. I didnt know whom ask for inputs. Maybe i'm reading too much into it. Feel free to ignore this mega rant. Have a good day!
I think cultural and historical context and time of publication-- which was almost 70 years ago --are important factors to take into consideration when we look at fiction through our current expectations.
I can’t speak to the book as I’ve never read it, but speaking as a Scots woman who worked for an English publishing house for a while, being made to feel alienated by my boss and others due to being Scottish was unfortunately still something going on in 2011.
I’d get lots of “Oh but you sound so eloquent” remarks regarding my thinned-out accent (something I did on purpose to avoid being told to “speak properly” which was also something I heard a lot in school if I ever used my native Scots language instead of “Queen’s English.”) and one time my boss referred to me as “their civilized Scot” to an American author, whose Scottish romance book I was supposed to be fixing the dialogue on.
The phrasing was along the lines of, “Don’t worry, you’ll be able to understand her. Joy is our civilized Scot.”
The author laughed and made another derogatory comment about how they just loved Scottish accents even if it was unintelligible a lot of the time. I kept my mouth shut because I didn't want to lose my first career job.
I kept my mouth shut a lot in that job.
In that regard I could very well empathize with the character being lonely and not engaging with anyone, even after 20 years.
The proud Scottish woman can be a bit of a caricature, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is intended as mocking.
Again, cultural/historical context matters.
I wasn’t alive in 1959, but I know there was a lot of Scottish media about the time that leaned into the stubbornness and pride of Scots women both for humor and to make societal commentary on the fact that women were strong and more independent than they’d ever been following two world two and a lot of men weren’t happy about it and wanted them to go back into their boxes. As a result the mouthy, proud Scots woman became a mockable caricature that turned women into shrill, over proud scolds.
Get back in your box or we’ll make fun of you, basically.
So is this book being mocking, or is it employing popular tropes of the time, knowing that audience will understand what it means and that the female protagonist is being subversive despite what others expect from her?
I can’t say. Again, haven’t read it. It could be utter dogshit and making total fun of my culture. But I do think when looking at older media we need to put our thinking caps on and think, “How would the audience of the time, 1959, have viewed and engaged with this?”
Expecting a “strong female protagonist” as we know it from media today isn’t going to work with media that’s almost 70 years old.
Hell, the “strong woman protagonist” wasn’t even something any piece of media could agree on when I was growing up in the 90s.
Times change. Literary tropes and preferences change. It helps to keep that in mind.

Regarding ojalá - it does specifically come from Arabic, though the actual phrase in Arabic is supposedly lawshallah but has frequently been compared to "inshallah"
The base is the same; -alá there refers to Alá or "Allah" so in etymology it's still like "God willing" if you look at it that way
Also it says Old Spanish oxalá - Old Spanish is like the Medieval form of Spanish, so it has more spelling differences where X later turns to J; this is why in modern Spanish it's Don Quijote but if you look at the original covers/writings for it, you see something like Don Qvixote where the V was the U and X turns to J....... really old Spanish sometimes has the Ç
And additionally in southern Spain or more Muslim-controlled areas like Al-Andalus [Andalusia] you would also see aljamía which used an Arabic alphabet of Romance Languages (and Mozarabe) to sort of approximate what was being said/understood. The equivalent would be something like writing out a Russian or Chinese name because we understand the Latinized alphabet but not Cyrillic or hanzi
Someone did mention that ojalá can also come across as more impersonal because it isn't specifically a conjugation which is true - espero or esperamos for "I hope" and "we hope" is more personally putting a subject in there
While ojalá can come out like "hopefully"; and it can be used in imperfect subjunctive as a contrary to fact statement which is why they put "if only"
-
Also, side note - I don't know Portuguese but I'd be willing to bet that they have an expression like ojalá too because the Moorish/Islamic influence was on all of the Iberian peninsula, not just Spain
Spanish and Portuguese (and the other Iberian Romance Languages) tend to share more linguistically than French or Italian in some respects, particularly you'll see more Arabic influences in the Iberian ones while French and Italian remain much more Latinized

Some of my favourite Doctor Who fanfiction (mostly One Shots)
Drawing Nearer by Geat (Ninth Doctor/reader, Ninth Doctor & reader) on AO3
This author understands the beauty of Nine like no one else does. Like fuck. Wow. If you want something immersive and soft and beautiful this is the one. Actually, even if you don't, this is the one. You need it in your life believe me. And! If you're into the Tenth Doctor instead, or just want more of the amazing stuff after you finish the first one, there's a sequel to it, Like One of My French Girls?, which explores the same prompt (reader drawing a portrait of the Doctor) with a freshly regenerated Tenth Doctor. Which is really clever and witty so you should read it as well.
Immolation by songofdefiance (Donna Noble & Twelfth Doctor, feat. Bill Potts) on AO3
This one is what would happen if the writers were geniuses. It's a whole episode and holy shit it doesn't matter who your favorite characters are: it's for everyone. It's so smart I felt like an idiot reading it. (and yes the 1k words comment on there is me lmao don't judge me I was just very enthusiastic)
Children of the Time War series by illyriashade56 (Donna Noble & Tenth Doctor) on AO3
There's a reason I've read so many fics from this author. Had trouble picking a favorite, and still can't, but this one deserves whatever publicity I can give it. It's got it all. Holy crap. Hurt/Comfort, nice Donna whump, amazing descriptions, solid plot, and you know what's good? Once you're done reading this one, you can check her account and read another one cause they're all so good. I haven't read part three yet cause I'm keeping it for a perfect night (do y'all do this as well or is it just me? anyways lol, some fanfics are just so good that I need to shower, change my bed sheets, make a playlist and clean my room before reading them) (also the author is nice and I'm referring you to her account if you want to check more of her stuff: @illyriashade56)
Run (To A New Beginning) by Topaz_Eyes (Donna Noble/Tenth Doctor) on AO3
Just like the previous one, I had trouble picking just one from this author. The sex scenes dont seem to exist just out of horniness, they're really, really good, funny, witty and moving in a way I can't explain. The author has a way with words, it feels like you're in the story (so if you're horny for Donna Noble this is the one for you). And if you don't like explicit scenes, still check out the author, they've got some other amazing stuff! Like a bittersweet, sort of fix-it for Donna's ending (Journey's End).
The Awesome and Entirely True Tale of the Doctor's New Companion by TheBigCat (Donna Noble/Ninth Doctor) on AO3
Honestly this one slaps on all aspects and that's all I have to say. You need to read it. And when you have, you need to read it again.
Stress Fracture by Youth_of_Australia (Donna Noble & Twelfth Doctor) on AO3
I wasn't expecting to love this one so much when I clicked on it. The author specifically says they don't like Twelve and that's their bitter take on him. So you'd expect it to be Twelve slander, but actually, and I'm saying that as a big Twelve fan... it's surprisingly accurate. It's a mature, well-thought take, in the point of view of Donna, it bathes in the remains of TenDonna's friendship in bittersweet ways and it's beautiful and sad and nostalgic.
The Greeting-Card Aisle by twelvedimensional (Donna Noble & Ninth Doctor) on AO3
Pissed myself reading this one (all three times), cause it's so real. This author knows what they're doing. Take Nine and Donna, put them in a room together and that's certainly what's gonna happen. And believe me, the result is side-splitting.
Constructive Criticism by goldenrod (Donna Noble/Ninth Doctor) on AO3
A very sexy take on Donna and Nine as traveling companions. Nine only has eyes for Donna and her boobies (as he should). Oh, and it's sassy and hilarious.
Creature Fear by goodbye2pisces (Donna Noble/Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble & Tenth Doctor) on AO3
This one could very well be canon. I need it as an audio book. It's cute, funny, there's a bit of Donna/Ten whump, it can be read as platonic or romantic, and it has the most adorable little epilogue.
Think Outside the Box by TheAsexualofSpades (Tenth Doctor & kid!reader) on AO3
Basically if you love Ten but don't wanna fuck him, if you had a rough day and no one's around for a hug, if you grew up with emotionally distant parents, or if you simply need to have a good crybaby moment, this one's for you.
I'm On Fire by TheDarkMaterial (Donna Noble/River Song, Donna Noble & River Song) on AO3
Just like the last one, this one's kinda like a warm blanket. It's short, it's healing, it might make you cry nice little tears... also idc it's canon to me.
Appetites by EllyF (Donna Noble & Tenth Doctor) on whofic.com
This one is hard to read because it's very graphic on the Ten whump, but... it's fucking worth it. Trust. Me. Jfc. It's Hurt/Comfort so don't worry for yourself, but the angst is real, the gore is terrific, there are some horrible comparisons in there that will absolutely draw some tears, and the frustration will be real, but when you're done with it, you'll be like Wow. Wtf did I just read.
Only Human by Louiecat68 (Donna Noble/Tenth Doctor) on whofic.com
If you're looking for Donna whump, search no more: this is the place. This one's pretty graphic, pretty horrible, Donna's going through it in all possible ways and you'll want to wrap her in a blanket, feed her burgers and hot chocolate and burn the world down around her. Quite literally.
The Doctor is In by crystanagahori (Martha Jones & Tenth Doctor, Martha Jones & Donna Noble, Donna Noble/Tenth Doctor) on AO3
This one's funny and so sweet and you have no trouble reading it in the characters' voices cause it's faithful to all three of them. I don't read Martha fics usually, I only clicked cause I saw TenDonna, but even if you're like me, you'll have no problem reading it even when it focuses on Martha's life, believe me. The vibe's just immaculate.
Your Eyes Aren't Rivers by ClementineCrane & Multifandomfuckfest (Donna Noble/Tenth Doctor) on AO3
Another one where the vibe's immaculate! Basically one of the things that made me want to write a Doctor Who High School AU of my own. Ten and Donna are absolutely adorable in this.
I'm tagging some people who'd probably be interested in one/some of those:

I'll definitely still use my HC that Chloe's first language is French. But, I think that she, as a mother (yes, I'm talking about my fic), for me, would definitely, like, buy fairytale books in French (I think Ella read bedtime stories in French to her, so, she would have a library full of them at Charming Castle, just another hc mine), hire a French teacher for them, talk for hours and hours in French with her daughters, and in that environment I can only imagine Red feeling a little left out because she doesn't understand one single word in French.
There would also be the fact that their daughters would refer to Red as "mama" — mostly, "mère", "maman", and Bridget as "grandmère", but Chloe's side of the family would just be "mom", "grandma", "grandpa", "uncle", and stuff like that.
Chloe would have to start being very careful about what she says in French to Red because her daughters might understand something and she doesn't want to traumatize them by saying something extremely inappropriate in front of them.
On the other hand, Red would teach their daughters to speak in riddles, ask Maddox to teach them riddles (he's not just a science teacher at Wonderland High, he's also a riddle teacher, but doesn't teach classes specifically on that), and would talk in riddles with their daughters, so, Chloe, she would feel a bit left out, but Red would hate to see her wife like that so she would talk very little in riddles.
Besides the fact that no one other than people who were born or raised in Wonderland know how to speak in riddles, they would use riddles mainly to hide things from Chloe, like planning a surprise birthday party for her!

pairing: seungmin x reader
genre: fluff, light angst (???)
word count: 1.8k
warnings: vague references to depression (in a sense)
synopsis: It's getting harder to get through the day, lately. seungmin helps
a/n: the way this is borderline nonsense aksdjhlfajkd i've been exhausted from work lately and this is what i spit out,,,excuse the fact that my metaphors are all mixed together
You're sitting on the couch with your hand above your face, watching your rings glimmer in the afternoon light. Your head is reading on Seungmin's thigh as he reads a book he bought while he was in Paris, something about local birds and migratory patterns. He’s been trying to read more lately, says it’s important for self-improvement. You wonder what self-improvement could come from understanding the ecological niche of French swallows.
“It’s not about the information,” he says. “It’s about learning to parse meaning from text. It’s a brain exercise.”
You think your brain gets plenty exercise. You want to join him on his quest for media literacy, but your brain is too fried to process written language most days. Work takes everything out of you, and then you have to come home and worry about classes and the laundry and all the other things you’re responsible for each day, and it keeps you from being able to focus on any individual thing, in the end. Even now, you're meant to be relaxing, a rare afternoon off when neither you nor your boyfriend has anything important to do, but you can't relax. Your gut is tight, and your head feels stretched thin. In your mind's eye you can see your desk, your laptop, all the work and emails and papers piling up. It's hard to breathe if you think about it for too long.
The sun is so pretty on your gold rings. Seungmin bought them for you in Paris from a vendor’s stand on his way to the airport. They're not real gold; one of them is already tarnishing, and the gems inlaid in another are chipping, clearly fake and not at all real garnets. But he thought you’d much prefer to have the “authentic” experience of a tourist Paris, and wear something you would’ve gotten yourself had you gone.
"If I went to Paris, I would’ve asked you to send me your card details," you'd said after he gave them to you. "I wouldn't have settled for tacky fakes.”
“You don’t even wear jewelry,” Seungmin threw back at you. “You would’ve only put them on to post them to your Instagram story, and then you’d never wear them again.”
“I would wear them if they were from Paris.”
“And so from Paris they are.”
It’s become something of a running joke. Every time you post a picture of yourself, you make sure one of your hands is visible, and with it, the rings. Of course, for this to be possible, you end up wearing them almost every day. In the end, Seungmin is right that it doesn’t really matter that the rings are cheap fakes. They’re beautiful, and they complement your skin tone, and Seungmin had bought them for you, so you don’t really care they’re from a cheap street vendor. First and foremost, they’re from your boyfriend, a souvenir he’d carried thousands of miles back to you, like those birds he’s reading about crossing large bodies of water to find their families back home.
You take one off and hold it directly above your head, looking through the hole like a lens at the ceiling above you. You zero in on the sunlight dancing across the ceiling, getting caught in the brass rings on your curtains and bouncing around in delight.
"You're thinking so loud," Seungmin says.
"Well, stop eavesdropping," you reply.
"It's not eavesdropping if you're loud," Seungmin says. "What's wrong?"
What's always wrong, you want to ask, but you don't know if that's helpful or vindictive, so you don’t. Instead, you say,
"I've just got a lot on my mind."
"Penny for your thoughts?"
“They’re worth more than that,” you say, absent. You're still looking through your lens. You're waiting to see something appear on the other side. Like Coraline’s seeing stone, you think to yourself, ignoring everything outside the metallic ring. If I look through it I can see a new reality.
Seungmin reaches up and takes the ring out of your hand.
“Boyfriend discount,” he says, teasing. He turns the ring over in his fingers curiously.
“Is this the ring from Paris?”
You hum.
“It’s tarnishing.”
“It’s cheap. That’s what happens with cheap things. They break down.” You reach for it, but he holds it out of your reach.
“A shame. Now what will you have to remember Paris by?”
“I didn’t even go, moron,” you say. “I never do anything that fun.” You mean to be lighthearted, but your voice is bitter, hard.
“That’s not true. You do fun things all the time. You’re the interesting one, not me.”
You actually laugh. “Don’t be ridiculous.”
“It’s true. If I wasn’t in an idol group, I would never go anywhere. I would have gotten a boring office job and been a salaryman, and I never would’ve even met you.”
Maybe that would be for the best, you think, but you know better than to say it. You've both grown tired of conversations about not deserving each other; there’s no denying you guys are in this for life. You love Seungmin so much it’s embarrassing, so much that you go to all his shows and sound checks, so much that you buy newspapers with his face on them and stick them on your coffee table even though you never read a single page. You love him enough that you stay up late and call him at odd times at night when he’s off in Europe headlining a music festival, so much so that you wear tarnished rings from a stupid Parisian street vendor just because he bought them and you love him and you want to look at your hands every single day and think about how much he loves you. So much so that you fantasize about the day he’ll give you a ring that won’t tarnish, because it’ll be real gold, and it’ll sit prim and shiny untouched on your currently unadorned ring finger. It’s not about deserving. If it was about deserving, you’d never have it. But you will have it, someday.
It's not someday yet, though.
"However you used to be, or could be, I'm the boring one now. I'm tired all the time. I have nothing to talk about most days except my work. And the work never ends. I'm not even a housewife. I'm something worse." It’s toeing the line of how much self-deprecation Seungmin will allow, and sure enough, he fights back.
"You said you wanted to keep your jobs. You said you liked them."
"I do like my jobs. And I like having money. Very low bar for me, liking things that I need to survive.”
"Is there a lot going on lately?" Seungmin holds the ring out between his thumb and middle finger, surrendering it back to you. You slide your finger back through the hole easily, reunited with your prices possession once more. Crossing portals, becoming whole, something else metaphorical that would fix you, that would make this conversation easier.
"Like I said, just a lot on my mind."
You don’t know why this is so hard.
Seungmin has always been willing to hear you out, knowing you're not one to complain when you don't need to. But something about this situation is getting to you, this prison of your own making, of trying to do everything in your own. You don't let Seungmin support you and then complain about working. You say you want fulfillment through education and then cry about midterms. You move miles away from your family to earn your independence and then wax depressive about how you're not seeing your baby sister grow up. It must be tiring for him, not just as someone who’s made similar sacrifices for his idol career, but just as a person on earth who has to listen to you all day. You don't like to be whiny. You understand your choices, and you don't regret them. You regret very little of your life, and very little of yourself, even on your worst days, but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck.
"Thinking loud again,” Seungmin says.
"Does that mean the thoughts are worth more?" you ask, but there's no mirth in your voice.
"You can tell me anything, you know," he says, and you do know. Of course, you know.
"Take your own advice," you say. "It's like pulling teeth with you.'
"You shouldn't pick up my bad habits," Seungmin says. "You have plenty of your own."
He isn't saying it to be mean, it's just true. There are so many parts of yourself you prefer to ignore, this being one of them. Seungmin is all about self-improvement. Hence the book on swallows, and the afternoon off. Hence the way he's not demanding you tell him what's wrong and is instead letting you decide. He's working on being less impatient, more empathic. You're working on honesty. To be honest it's like pulling teeth for both of you.
Talking with Seungmin like this is doing...something. It isn't really making it easier to breathe, and it's not helping you ignore the piles of work you have left, but it does make it easier to remember that you two are a team in this. In being people. In suffering and paying rent and being maybe not so good with money, if he’s willing to waste it on street trinkets that will just tarnish within the year and you’re willing to encourage him by wearing them.
You're drowning in work, you both are, always, but then, the work isn't here with you, is it? Here it's Sunday afternoon, and it's golden hour, and you're on the couch with your boyfriend. And you still don't really want to tell him what the problem is, because you're afraid he'll laugh, even though he clearly won't. He would never laugh at you. He doesn't find most of what you do funny for him to start making jokes now.
"Buy me fried chicken and I might give you a thought or two," you say. "I'm bringing back the barter system.”
“Traditionalist," he says.
"True innovation is found in retrospection," you say. "I’ll make it a BOGO. Combining old with new.”
"Enough metaphors," he says. “What place do you want to order from?"
You pretend to be offended. "You don’t know my chicken order?"
"Now you're just inventing things. Coffee order, sure, even dessert order. But chicken order?”
"If you don't love me, just say that."
“This is why your thoughts are only worth a penny, just so you know."
You grin, looking up at him. You're not looking at his face through the ring, but it feels like you're seeing another world anyway, a universe where there's Just the two of you, a universe sustained only by your love.
Who cares about migrating birds, as long as Seungmin keeps flying home to you.

What is a rose truly for?
~~~🌹🥀~~~
This music video has left me quite... confused? Perhaps a bit frustrated? Because I can tell there is something in this mv, in this song, but I can't put my finger on it on what it is exactly. Particularly, I am torn over the symbolisms, why these specific visuals were used, why these specific transitions, and so on, how they would fit in with the general timeline and the overall story, it's confusing, at least, as of now where there's a lack of English translation. I'm certain everything will fall into place, but until then, I want to discuss my theories.
1.) "I'm Stitch Dot." I first approached the title quite literally, stitch as in stitches and it may relate to the tapestry and quilts Roma's kingdom is known for. Then I looked at the possible meanings it could have in literature, to which I have discovered that "stitch" may refer to a sudden pain, which is understandable since you get hurt when you get stitches, or, you get hurt which is why you need to get stitches but you end up hurting yourself more because of those stitches.
That last thought was close, it made me relate it to roses, and my thought looked a little bit like this: "A rose, it's beautiful, but it has thorns. Find yourself pricking yourself, you get hurt. And it's somewhat similar to a dot. But sometimes, that aside, sometimes when you get hurt, the pain is not similar to a mere dot. Sometimes, the pain is too much that you need to get stitches to fix yourself and keep yourself together." That thought is VERY close to what the title wanted to convey because, vague it may be, I tried to actually say the title out loud "I'm Stitch Dot" and, perhaps it's just me, but it sounded something similar to "I'm stitched up."
That thought made me compare it to the visuals, where different fabrics were stitched up to form one quilt, one tapestry. Those different fabrics were supposed to symbolize the different parts of Romarriche...
2.) Fabrics.
The fabric here is most likely representing the "old french" or "old american" aesthetic they wanted him to convey through his clothing, and perhaps a part of his personality. This is Roma on surface level.
There's a lot going on here, but let me break it down for you.
a.) The white fabric with pink flowers: Most probably relating to an "innocent" kind of love, one that symbolizes his kind heart, his caring and generous nature.
b.) The purple (or magenta?) fabric with pink flowers: Most probably relating to a slightly more intense love than the other fabric, probably representing his want and determination to protect others, which may relate to this line from his wiki used to describe him: "Determination Hidden Deep Within a Tolerant Nature."
c.) The blackened red fabric that looks like it has roses but also has this white thingy that looks like it was scribbled down randomly: An extension of the previous fabric, but here, it got intense to the point of disarray and this is where the SEEDS take place. Roma dislikes it when his friends are hurt, while this may not be an insecurity, it is a dislike, therefore a negative emotion, therefore the SEEDS would provoke him so they could feed on those negative emotions. The rose pattern is him, the white scribbles is him being plagued by paranoia of not being able to protect his friends or anyone if the situation calls it. This leads him spiralling down and overthinking and over-worrying which will lead the SEEDS right to where they are and the cycle will continue on until the unfortunate happens.
d.) The black fabric: Him getting corrupted. Easy as that.
This struggle to remain calm but at the same time to be on guard to protect whoever dear to him will be the main thing that will lead the SEEDS right to him if he doesn't balance it out.
The same thing applied here, only half of the screen is mixed with the red textile overlapping the black fabric. Most probably, if meant in a good way (to which I hope it is), means that he managed to balance it out. The fabric we talked about became more vibrant, and perhaps a bit more orderly now. While the fabric that consumes the second part of the screen, the black fabric with red textiles, most probably means how even with these negative emotions, he managed to find that point where he managed to find good in it, he managed to find the power he has, how instead of paranoia, he sees determination, and covered it with the intense emotions that he has now embraced.
And Merold? Why does he have the purple fabric? Well, his intense emotions has been "tamed" in a way during Your Melody and had now learned his lesson.
3.) Frames.
Most probably, the frames being used in this mv is to show how Roma used to confine himself, or his emotions rather to keep them from being too intense or scare people off, kind of like Merold in that broken mirror. But throughout, he has learn to open up, and be free.
Which is why he went from this:
To this:
But unfortunately, I don't think I could end this happily. Perhaps bittersweet.
4.) The distance between the lords and knights.
This is something very interesting I found in the comments section. (Thank you and credit to these people, by the way.)
They highlighted how even though the knights and their lords are close, there is still a distinct line, this distance that none of them dare to cross. And this speaks a lot considering Roma's relationship with his lord is probably the closest out of all the knights. Marroncream was the one who taught him how to make sweets and sewing, this solidified their bond and brought them closer together. They cherish each other, care for each other, yes, but still, there is this distance between them that never seems to close. Perhaps it is their titles? Their duties? The sense of professionalism? This is most probably why gray roses was shown - they symbolize formality and sophistication. Or perhaps he just struggles to convey it properly. The knights do have this "sickness" where they don't know how to express their feelings properly and do things they think is for the best for the people they love without thinking clearly (sometimes).
But what I really like about the second comment is this line "Although you don't your love isn't very beautiful, do you also think it's as important as the needlework of your beloved master?"
This love grew because of his bond with Marroncream, primarily because of them bonding over needlework. If ever he considers his love as something that is not very beautiful, the same love that grew from needleworking with his beloved master, and the love that came from seeing the finished art his master has made, would he consider the needlework of his master not very beautiful like his love? Would it be as important as his "not very beautiful" love? He would most probably answer no, but what he is implying is leading to the answer yes. Why?
Like I said, this love grew from needleworking with his master and the awe and admiration from seeing the finish product of his master's finished needlework. If he were to consider his love "not very beautiful" he would deem his master's needlework "not very beautiful" as well.
That would most probably leave him silent. Contemplating. Wondering about his answer. This is a common problem with the knights, one that I would relate to my earlier statement about the red fabric (c). Him feeling so much yet all of this thoughts are practically scribbles that he can't think clearly and wouldn't know how to express it properly... That is something he would have to learn. That is something he has learn thought the mv.
5.) Eyes Closed.
Perfect! I was wondering about this, and it's quite fitting as well. I've said this in passing before where eyes have been quite the prominent symbol in Fragaria. First shown in Ever Red, then Your Melody, so on so forth. But the most recent one is Bouquet of Wishes, and now, this.
And it's quite interesting to know this point because the story this comment has mentioned (Thank you and credits to this person), fits the overall world of Fragaria in a way that I've never thought about before. Cover your right eye, then you won't see your past — how the first timeline of the Fragaria world has fallen. Cover your left eyes, and you won't see your future — the uncertainty, the potential of having history repeat itself when they least expect it because they lost their memories. Right, applies to Roma, left, applies to both Merold and Puruth, But what does it mean to have both eyes closed then? I haven't read the story myself, but, if I were to connect this with the mv and the overall world of Fragaria, it could be described as momentary peace.
You close your eyes, free yourself from looking at the horrible things that has occured for too long, and let yourself relax... breathe... think... reflect... You close your eyes and see black. The void of color, or lack thereof, you usually associate with the SEEDS, but in this moment where it is just you, you would be able to breathe and free yourself of paranoia and anxiety, and reflect... You close your eyes and see your friends, your beloved master, your people, you see how they have supported you all throughout, you see how far you have come despite the consequences. You close your eyes and see everything. Everything you have done. Everything you haven't done. Everything that needs to be done.
You close your eyes, and suddenly, everything is falling into place... The only thing you need to do now is open them, but keep that sight in your heart, stitch it into your very being, your very should... And take it from there.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“The knights ask nothing in return for their love.”
#fragaria memories#fragaria sanrio#fragmem#been wring this for over an hour...#it's been a year fragaria can't you make them happy for once?#this “little” analysis became not so little the more I think about my theories....#guys... THIS MIGHT HAVE JUST BECOME MY FAVORITE THEORY.

The human names of nations is so interesting to me. It humanizes these immortal cryptid beings. Not even for the mortal people they interact with everyday, but in some ways, for the other nations. Even for humans, names are so frequently intertwined with culture, history, and personal experiences. For a nation, it must go even deeper than that.
"Alfred" for a male America works in my opinion. While he kept his first name, he dose change his last name to Jones at some point during the early stages of the American revolution. I like to think America (both male and nyo) adopted the name from a human whose' name will never be found in a history book, but will always be remembered by their nation. Sorta in-line with him wearing glasses' to look older, I also like playing around with the idea that he added an "F" to his name during the Gilded Age because he thought it made his name look more official on paper. It's also just funny to think it really doesn't stand for anything and that he lets different people think it stands for different names. Today in day-to-day conversations he is simply "Alfred". Matt almost always (plus a few other he's close with) will always refer to him as Al. His aunt can refer to him as Alfie. His uncles often get away loving referring to him as Freddie. They are the only people that can get away with either of those names without getting decked. Ivan will often use them if he's trying to antagonize Alfred. But overall, he is pretty open to nicknames if you and him are on a friendly basis. He's a puddle on the ground when it comes to being called romantic nicknames in/from his partners native language.
For Nyo!America, it is a bit more complicated. I'm very attached to the name Amelia, but can recognize it's not a name that Arthur would have given his daughter in the 1600s. When she was taken in by Arthur, she was christened with the classic name of Elizabeth. Yet it was only Arthur that called her that even in "childhood". Little baby French speaking Matthew called her Lise or the non-Elizabeth nickname of Sissie. While most humans who she was friend's with referred to her as Bet. Because they could Bet on her. Even other humans would nearly always often shorten it to Beth. Pretty much everyone outside of the man who gave her the name could see "Elizabeth" just did not fit her. In my headcanon she was quite a bit more angry and hurt then Alfred was during the revolution. Which, along with already not "loving" the name, caused her to feel no reason not to ditch the names Arthur had given her. Like Alfred, Jones came from a human that she cared about. But this time around, so did Amelia. So up until the 1880s, it was Amelia Jones until, again just like Alfred, she added the "F" to make it Amelia F. Jones.
And as the years went on, Matt says Mel or in moments filled with fear/pain Sissie may slip out. But really outside of him, people don't use nicknames for her. Over the years, since adopting the name, she drew a firm line that she only responds to the United States of America, United States, America in formal settings. Amelia in informal settings. She simply won't respond if someone calls her something else. This mostly has to do, well, with the sexism of being one of only a handful of female nation's and simply being a woman...that exists in this world. A lot of times male nations (as well as human men) would actively use nicknames as a way to talk-down to her or dismiss her abilities. So she begin to refuse to respond to anything but her name
But one of the newest developments in this area is that starting sometime in the 1990s...Arthur was seemingly allowed to start referring to America as Elizabeth again in moments of privacy. First time Matt heard Arthur say "Elizabeth dear, would you pass me the files" he mentally started to prepare for war. The fact America did not even blink or say anything other then "oh yeah, here ya go" changed Matt's understanding of the family dynamic.
