Someone on this site will complain about annoying tropes in battle shounen anime and everyone in the tags will come out of the woodwork like "This is EXACTLY why I don't watch anime." or "Can anyone give me recs for anime that don't hate women? If they even exist 😞" as if it would kill them to just watch the ones made for girls. Or even anything not tailor made specifically for 14 year old boys. Or even the ones made for 14 year old boys that are just written by women.
#not relevant to the post but it bugs me when people use the word shounen specifically to talk about battle shounen#you are using a very specific kind of anime to make broad statements about the entire medium...#and obviously i empathize with the people complaining about those tropes#i dont really watch new battle shounen i didnt already survive in middle school when i had less discerning tastes#and to be clear i love so many aspects of battle shonen. they are just also unbearable very often#i like hxh and i plan to watch yu yu hakusho and i have fond memories of others#but i understand what i like now! and im not limited to whats popular now!#im free. and im better for it#watch princess tutu#ramble tag

It’s extremely cute when people are like back in MY day we watched the animes in ten parts on youtube uphill both ways in the snow like my friend. My child. I remember renting bootleg fansubs from weird video stores. And feeling lucky to have that.
#passing around copies of copies someone’s brother’s friend’s aunt brought back from Japan#you were lucky if they were in order and complete and still watchable#and you were at the whim of someone else’s curation#which you always were but when there’s fewer people curating/sharing stuff…#I do think some older people’s bad opinion of anime comes from this period bc a lot of what was floating around was shitty harem anime etc#and then now if you’re not ‘into’ it your main exposure is whatever gets super popular#and a) overexposure makes anything seem shitty and b) popular doesn’t necessarily mean ‘good’#im rambling and yes this is bc of a poll but it bugs me when people say they ‘don’t like anime’#bc usually people are writing it off based on limited exposure or straight up racism#or lacking cultural context. and while you shouldn’t have to like. take a course to understand your leisure reading#I do feel like people are a bit more willing to extend grace and accept cultural norms/language that are unfamiliar when the culture#in question is also majority white

INTRODUCING: CHILDRENS SHOW AU!
WAY too excited to share these guys !!!! im super proud of these designs <3
CTS!Y/n and information about the AU under the cut!
In this AU, FazCo is a company running a TV channel network called FazBS, where each animatronic has their own show!
Sun's show airs at mornings and is all about getting energized and hyped up for the day, its similar to LazyTown with it's cartoon-esc violence and slapstick humor, with scenarios that make little sense, but are entertaining to watch anyway! only very simple language is used to make everything understandable for younger kids, with cameos of the other animatronics! his show was extremely popular, just above Roxy's and below Monty's in popularity.
Moon's show airs around bedtime and is focused on getting kids to go to sleep, with a soothing music box soundtrack, Moon's trance-inducing voice, and more advanced dialogue that makes kids zone out, its known for how fast it puts kids to sleep, even the especially rambunctious ones fall asleep out of boredom. While his show wasn't as talked about nor popular as sun's, it was highly rated among parents.
[descriptions for the glamrocks' shows will be added later when i draw refs for them too! :D]
Well, that was before the entire channel went downhill after FazCo fired all of its human workers.
Yeah, despite the channel's success and being extremely profitable, this was the FazCo's end-game from the start. Being able to AI-generate children's content without having to pay a single human, FazCo thought that their animatronics have already learnt enough from being show hosts for more than 10 years now, but they thought wrong. The gradual decline in quality was felt by the parents, and after Bonnie's show was suddenly cancelled- even the kids noticed how bad things were getting.
[psst, i'll go into detail about how each show was effected by this change in another post!]
Parents called in, demanding the shows they grew up with to be good again, and it wasn't just nostalgia speaking.
So, in an uncharacteristic turn of events, FazCo responded! They said that Freddy's, Monty's, Roxy's and Chica's shows were going to have human staff again!
...what they neglected to mention, was that they were pulling funding from Foxy's show, and cutting Sun's and Moon's budget in half to make up for this change.
Sun now has to re-use and repurpose old props to make up for his inability to get new ones, buying with his now super limited budget cheap D.I.Y kits to make crafts with- not to mention, without having any human staff around, he had to play every sound effect in real time- because the new S.T.A.F.F bots FazCo got have ZERO idea what comedic timing is. Needless to say he was under a lot of pressure, his show was pretty well liked by both kids and parents, and he didn't want to disappoint them. He had to change a lot with the absence of human actors and no narrator to have a solid dynamic with, calling on his pal Chica often jus to have another person on the show.
Moon's show however, was doomed from this change. Y'see, his show featured a narrator, posing as a curious soul and asking Moon thoughtful questions he can answer in a way kids can digest, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood style, and with no off-screen voice he can respond to, Moon's show felt incredibly eerie, as his true thoughts were left free with no guidance from his narrator buddy. He started acting stranger and stranger, going on derailed existential tangents accidentally, making a few jabs at FazCo here and there from frustration. The kids didn't understand any of it, but the parents found it off-putting, and complained.
Eventually, Moon's show was put on a permanent hiatus, after a particularly bad episode where 'moon truly let his rising anger at FazCo loose', as an article described it. No recording was archived of this episode, and any attempts to post it is quickly struck down by FazCo.
They've re-run old episodes of his show for about 6 months now, with no sign of moon coming back.
This, however, is when Y/N comes in! after half a year of dwindling ratings of sun's show, and decreasing profits in merch sales, they caved in and hired a single narrator! after not being able to retrieve their old narrator, due to "a small disagreement."- they brought you, surely, they don't expect you to single handedly bring back sun's show from ruin!? ...well, did they?
who fuckin knows you'll find out in my [soon to be written] fic lol

Japanese website Forest Page is shutting down ~today, a tragic loss of "Heisei otaku memories", as so many are calling it. Launched in 2003, Forest Page was a "Geocities for mobile", a site that hosted user-created websites and gave them tools to allow non-coders to make them. In practice, it became one of the premiere places for fanfiction in Japan, with the stories hosted on author-created sites.
It wasn't quite the Fanfic.net of Japan, as for one the Japanese fandom just never centralized quite the way the 2000's western one did, instead being spread out over a half dozen or so sites. But additionally, it wasn't initially popular for fanfic so much as cell phone fanfiction, because in 2000's Japan the "cell phone novel" was a specific thing. These websites were being made for flip phones, not smartphones, and not only would people read them on those phones, they would often write them. None of that was very conducive to the creation and consumption of a "traditional" novel; so starting in the 2000's Japanese writers started making stories fit for the medium, namely:
Very short
A huge focus on dialogue and inner thoughts, with no/minimal description or scene detail
Using a limited POV of a specific character
Often employing the medium-as-message, like using emojis, structuring the story as IM's or emails, etc.
Also they all had huge gaps between lines, I'm not really sure what that is about:
Probably for readability on the phone given the small screen size? But it was absolutely part of the genre. A few of these novels actually made it big, got movie adaptations, people wrote articles about the "cultural phenomenon", it was the 2000's so Hiroki Azuma had a take on it of course, and so on. It slotted neatly into the vibe of the time of technology changing culture, paralleling discourse around otaku in the same era.
In fanfic those trends met up, and anyone familiar with fanfiction probably read that list of traits of the cellphone novel and thought "oh, this is perfect for fanfiction". Skipping out on description? I don't need it, I know what they look like already. Focus on conversation and POV? Perfect for shipping fics. Short lengths? Yeah, we are shortcutting to the good stuff, that is the point. Mirroring trends in the west, Forest Page's userbase was ~95% female, and the most common content on the site was romantic or edgy-dramatic stories in the franchises you'd expect. The closure page linked above actually summarizes the site's history by year, and lists the biggest fandoms:
Which is exactly what I would expect from a female otaku fanfiction website. Congrats to Pirates of the Caribbean for making it though, freeaboo's represent.
I do think the fact that the site was a website hoster as opposed to a fic hoster did align with the way the Japanese fandom was more "creator focused" and embraced the media mix more. There were "fic circles" a la doujin circles who made their own pages, people would make fanart, fan video games, and so own to host alongside it, and all of it was centralized to the creator; it made following them-as-a-person just a little bit easier. Most websites were simple text, but others did have the full Geocities experience:
Something that was somewhat common were basic visual novel concepts where the reader could make choices, or even insert their own name so they would be the "MC" of the story:
(Dream novels are in fact their own thing in Japan) My understanding is the site was quite popular through the 2000's and into the 2010's, though over time the "cellphone novel" as a concept fizzled out. People got smartphones, more people got PCs, and the constraints didn't make sense anymore - you can read ebooks and normal websites on your phone now after all. You can probably draw a line between these kind of stories and the webfiction/light novel boom of the late 2000's/2010's, something that was equally born on the internet, that streamlines the novel to "shortcut to the good stuff" but without the need to fit on a flip phone's screen. Though I will admit my own understanding of their histories shows them more as two sides of the same "youth demand for new literature" coin.
In 2017 Forest Page launched Forest Page Plus, a new service fully optimized for the smartphone era; but it did not transfer over all the old content, starting the clock ticking on the original Forest Page. My understanding is that in June they announced Forest Page was officially closing down; and from what I have gathered from reminiscing writers on twitter, they did not provide any easy, one-touch way to save any of the content, so people are archiving Wayback Machine links or sharing tips on how screenshot-save stories (I think the rub is they gave people a way to transfer content to FP+, but most don't want to do that, as places like Twitter & Pixiv are the content kings of this era).
As of tomorrow I would bet the large majority of the content will be gone; quite sad given both the quantity of stories there and how many got sometimes millions of readers. I am sure most of the biggest stories are archived at least, but particularly the early stuff was a very ephemeral genre, one that doesn't make sense to revisit once you aren't a 16 year old teen writing and reading fics on a flip phone in between classes. Which means another legion of the ghosts of the Wired is being born today. May we pour one out for a fellow online community that lived and died!
#forest page#otaku history#history of the internet#If some group did do a big archiving of the site that would be great to learn - I don't claim to be an expert on the site or anything

i guess another thing is like. what about crackships. do people still crackship? just shipping characters or people who have no reason to ever be together? or like shipping pairings that arent canon and not really caring about them being canon? i think maybe... ok i have to word what im trying to articulate carefully... but sometimes i think that the height of discussion of queerbaiting ended up putting this massive emphasis of canon representation (which is undeniably important!!!) that fandom shipping culture has completely shifted and doesn't really leave a lot of room for imagination, at least in the mainstream. like, whether or not a pairing ends up together in the end has always been kinda important in fandoms, but since most of the popular ships have been m/m (and before queerbaiting became more commonplace as a term) there was just kind of a quiet understanding that yeahhh they're probably NOT gonna end up together at the end...
i'll give bbc sherlock as an example. actually sherlock might be the perfect example as it came out around the turn of the 00s-10s decade which is exactly when the conversation surrounding queerness in media began to shift. now i fell off sherlock after season two so my knowledge of the show after that is limited, but from my pov of that early fandom, i don't really remember anyone clamoring for johnlock to end up confirmed canon. i mean people wanted it to happen ofc but it felt like wishful thinking rather than something that could actually happen. it wasn't until fans had this direct communication with the creators of the show that they realized maybe they COULD have an impact on what happens, applying pressure on them as queer representation in media became more of a hot button issue. and ultimately i DO think that the chemistry of john and sherlock as a couple should have been something that the creators took more seriously, regardless if they became Canon. i mean people have been shipping holmes/watson and even holmes/moriarty since the books were first published probably. so the showrunners dropped the ball on that big time in the end, but imo it wasnt until queer representation became viewed as more than just a pipe dream that johnlock's Endgame Status became of utmost importance.
thats kinda what i mean by "i"d ship dnp even if they werent straight up a couple" and why i mentioned feeling a tiny bit bad for the frerardies in the shipping poll lol cuz like a ship being Real probably shouldn't be what makes a pairing good, and if we treat that with extreme importance then we lose out on the transformative side of fandom, the fact that we can make something "real" even if it's not word-of-god Canon.

there are written parts :)
note that the timeline or educations may not add up but just ignore it because i don't have the brain power to sync up THIRTEEN + 1 's education schedules
also!!!! the story begins in the christmas period of 2022!!!! IF THERE ARE YEAR ERRORS IM SO SORRY!!!! i legit can't change it omfg
"so you guys went to vernon's place before coming back?" - wonwoo
"can't risk e/n finding out where yn lives now." - vernon
"you and seungkwan have to be careful too." - dino
"yeah. he's away hosting this netflix show so i'll just look out for myself." - vernon
"he's so annoying..." - yn
"i'll fetch you from work from now on, yn." - wonwoo
dino and vernon turn to look at him in shock. wonwoo? volunteering? to go out of the house? to help someone?
"thanks... i didn't really expect him to become like this..." - yn
no one expected e/n to knock on wonwoo's door while yn and dino were home alone.
hiding in her art room as the knocks got louder, yn and dino began to silently panic.
"where the hell is wonwoo" - yn
"he has a streamer event to attend. i'm going to cry why is he so scary..." - dino
"okay wait go strip and put on your bathroom after wetting ur body or smth then open the door and ask why he's here." - yn
"huh?!" - dino
"fasterpleasegonow." - yn
dino took a deep breath before opening the door. sure enough, it was e/n, who was shocked to see him."
"sorry but does someone named yn ln live here?" - e/n
"sorry who?" - dino
"yn ln. about this tall, (hair colour), (eye colour)..." - e/n
"i don't know anyone like that. sorry. would you mind leaving? this apartment building is off limits to those who don't live here and i don't recognise you." - dino
"... sorry for bothering you." - e/n
dino immediately closes and locks the door once e/n leaves and rushes back to the art room.
"how the hell did he get in without the keycard?" - yn
"probably tailgated someone inside. have you texted wonwoo?" - dino
"he said he was on the way back." - yn
when he got the text from yn, his heart dropped. a simple sentence. "e/n is here. help." he feared the worst. he didn't understand. yn was one of the nicest people he knew, willing to help anyone, hardworking and dedicated. why was she suffering at the hands people like this?
his relief when she texted that she was okay made his legs weak. he barely knew her, but he knew the effort she'd put in to keep a smile on her face.
e/n threatened her peace. and he didn't know why he cared so much, but he did.

I haven’t mentioned the other Celestial (x)s before, so let’s actually run through the three main ones as well as what the Celestial Forge even is. I’m not counting ones like the Celestial Bakery because that’s tiny it’s like eight perks. The CM is my favorite, the CF is…actually not that bad. The CG….
The Celestial Forge is a collection of Jumpchain perks loosely (emphasis on) based around crafting.
A jumpchain, for the uninitiated, is a story prompt game thing where you write a character (most commonly self inserts or ocs) as the ‘jumper’ someone who travels fictional universes at the behest of a random omnipotent being’s entertainment or whatnot. unsurprisingly, I’m not the fondest of them. The power system is in collections of Jumpchain documents which lay the rules ( perks, drawbacks, items, settings, etc) of each universe. These are made independently and are not explicitly balanced. This balance gets more and more wildly out of wack the more jumps you do and the explicit end point of a jumpchain is to become comparably powerful as a ROB by finding a ‘spark’ perk (used to be a specific one but now there are multiple). Sure, jumpchains can end at any point but most people enjoy numbers go-up too much. My favorite wildly unbalanced jumpchains are things like random sitcom shows because oh my god you will find the wildest powers in there. My personal favorite is a free perk that allows you to take command of a vessel and instantly everyone inside or on that vessel will do everything you command no matter what, which is honestly pretty tame but extremely funny.
The CF is a bunch of these Uber powerful perks mashed together into one document. It’s unbalanced, it’s not great for a narrative, its most popular work is BCF, it doesn’t have the greatest PR in my eyes. However I don’t think it’s completely unsalvageable. Some tweaking of points, ignoring powers that ruin your story, and an author who is discerning enough to focus on plot rather than word count could make a fine fic even if it has yet to be done. Also I would prune a lot of powers to make it an actual focus on tinkering.
also, side note, why the fuck are there so many versions on google docs? I understand Jumpchain documents are usually docs but they’re like five pages and some pictures not like eight hundred pages of text. Christ.
The Celestial Grimore is a collection of ‘magic perks’ which are so extremely unbalanced Im not sure how this would even be written. There’s a section devoted to rolling entire near universal compendiums of all knowledge of fictional universes. Basically any magic system, ki, chakra, mana, is in there and it’s terrible. Magic is already a really esoteric and broad power system to bring in OOC especially and putting basically no limits on it and ascribing a million ways to use it doesn’t help. The magic parks of the Forge are its weakest because the technobabble is at least hypothetically interesting and I have no real interest in the Grimoire. Also Got The Grimoire Now What…it did not leave a good impression on me. While at least it’s in a spreadsheet it’s not that readable and looking at it for a minute was enough for me to say it would need extreme pruning or a strong specific central narrative. This is probably the least salvageable of all of the celestials.
The Celestial Menagerie is the odd one out of the bunch. It drops the perk system entirely to be a summons based power where you primarily roll for creatures from real life or fiction. Well I wouldn’t call it perfectly balanced it is the hardest C(X) to become setting breaking imo. It’s the neatest as well, being a pretty google sheets with a built in dice roller and color coding. Well I would make some edits, generally to the powers section to preserve the squishy summoner, you start with limits on how far your summons can get away and how many you summon at once and so on. It’s also my favorite because it allows for some very funny builds, two of my own personal favorites are a guy who has no summons for several thousand words but knows a lot about farming, and on a more punishing rule set a guy who can summon one (1) flea.
The Celestial Menagerie also has the current best C(X) fic, Brocktons Zoo of Myth and Legend. My god do I love BZML. I read it in one sitting, live reacting with my Buddy and we genuinely could not guess where the plot would go next. It’s hilarious and the author makes several extremely respectable choices and values the plot over useless powerwank. It has its problems but in this genre…also most of those problems were extremely endearing anyways. I’ll probably make a post about it at some point but I would recommend reading it blind.
There’s also another c(x) that me and said friend have been playing with that’s deeply stupid on purpose but I’ll wait for some context posts before pitching it.
#brocktons celestial forge#I am assuming all of these for wormfic bc I’m wormfan#Technically these are all cross fandom and can be used for wharever but I dont care#Worm#Bzml has my heart it’s such a deeply weird fic

long winded whining underneath
saw that post abt the saberfaces and like while I can understand the point in like, a billion dollar company reusing a design/design element might not appear favorable and it isn't even that wrong to say they are squeezing their cash cow flagship character i fundamentally disagree because thats like the equivalent of complaining about jojo having every protagonist with a name that can be shortened to jojo or final fantasy always having reused monsters like bahamut
and this isnt even a "oh saber is good i swear!" type thing but like. fate's been around for almost two decades now and has had tons of media made with plenty of recurring motifs and thematics that are acknowledged by the writers who are incredibly vocal fans of the series so if you're going into a long established franchise and complaining about long standing injokes and long standing patterns it comes across less as poining out the flaws in a billion dollar company and more like you just dont like that you didnt get it at first? takeuchi samefaceness isnt a problem unique to takeuchi and there are thousands of artists who have the same issue and even then a bunch of the saberfaces werent even drawn by takeuchi at first (nero was wada and jeanne & mordred was konoe) so them playing off the saberface jokes with designs isnt even that agregious because even if they have similar colors you'd have to be reading it in bad faith to say that the fgo artoria and fgo jeannes takeuchi designs are the exact same. an artist can have a style to how they draw their characters and just because there is overlap does not automatically equate that to having lazy designs.
more than anything saberfacing is part of nasuverse iconography, when a character is a saberface it isnt just about selling the design it is in fact an intentional design choice that tells you about the themeing of the character. im not going to say that nasuverse lore is sacred because it definitely isnt and they are in fact just doing what they think is cool but when you have nasu literally adding a chapter for limbo because he thought hasendows design was so beautiful it shouldn't be limited to a single appearance and then had that expanded into one of the more popular story chapters that tells you that these are creators who do pay attention to the designs that go into their characters. the same applies to chica umenos oberon, to wada and redrops designs and so many more, they absolutely care about the art that goes into their series.
I'm not gonna tell you that you must absolutely do your homework to enjoy any piece of fate media we are all free to do literally whatever we want forever and -clenches fist- you can also enjoy it in any type of way even in a surface level way. but when you acknowledge that a series is long standing with deeper themes acknowledged by its long standing playerbase and that the writers have so much passion for their own work (for better or worse, again nasuverse is absolutely not immune to criticism), saying that it comes across as disingenuous to have a recurring character design injoke because its heavily popular now despite not being popular once upon a time in itself comes across as disingenuous. nasuverse stuff being born of niche doujin circles and still being in touch with those roots isnt some kind of disqualification of the existence of saberfaces or the reasons behind them. when we ask you to read fate stay night its literally because we want you to enjoy it More so that you can, in fact, understand why saberface is a thing to begin with. being a popular franchise nowadays doesnt remove any of that charm unless you're specifically ignoring them. we literally have bbs profile in fgo say 'if you want to understand her deal and the deal of other similar characters read fate extra ccc' (bb herself being a sakuraface) so like theyre fully forward about the most accessible entrypoint into the franchise having a ton of history behind it
#untagged bc i wont annoy op on their post and i Do get their point but. cmon man#this post was originally a paragraph and it turned out i had way more to say abt this than i thought

It wasn’t meant to be an insult or mean I was just curious why the whole “yes daddy” and “kid” dynamic was so popular with you and your followers. I guess I’m just confused as to why noncon and that particular dynamic is often wrote together. It just seems like there’s a romanticization with r*pe and assault being committed by a father figure. Correct me if I’m wrong though!
thank you for clarifying it wasn’t an insult i appreciate that! i haven’t written any noncon so i can’t speak to any other authors and what elements they include in their noncon stories. i use “kid” a lot because i love that nickname and i think it’s really accurate to how rafe would treat a girlfriend. for dad/daddy i mean it’s tumblr every other blog here uses daddy. i like the appeal of it for kinks but it doesn’t have anything to do with my real life if that’s what you are wondering. again i don’t write noncon or at least i haven’t yet so im not sure what you’re referring to but i can understand why a lot of people want to read any story related to father figures. i don’t really know how to explain other people’s interests but its a pretty common kink and i know personally people like reader older characters taking care of younger ones like dbf rafe for example. i don’t think you’re wrong im sure there’s a lot of that genre on this blog and across rafe blogs in general but i can’t really explain it, its just my writing/reading interest right now. its all fiction so i don’t filter or limit what i’ll write even if in real life i wouldnt want to try it or partake

Can we mention and call attention to how their website looks now? They don't seem to check the final work at all. Some items like Gummy Eye, Shell Pot, and Inchsect are larger than the rest of the items, which makes them stick out of the line, which is just ugly.
Also now the images for forest and grassland locations have just a huge weight, which makes the foraging page take an unreasonable amount of time to load. Guys, I just want to make a couple clicks and go about my business again, why should I have to wait for the site to load because your images weigh so much?
And continuing with the artist thing. Items are drawn in different styles and it seems like the current owners don't think about how things end up looking at all. And I just don't understand why? I thought the new owners were more interested in the quality of the species, but it looks like I was wrong.
This all goes to show that the moderation doesn't seem to check at all how certain pages are displayed and working.
the item sizes thing i remember being way more egregious than this (or maybe it has to do with the fact im on mobile), but the funny thing about lorekeeper is that the size of items and awards and stuff is determined by the size of the image. im pretty sure you have to edit the css if you want the site to automatically resize the images.
the heavy images issue is also something ive noticed, they NEED to compress the images for the foraging locations because if it loads like shit now, imagine what itll be like when they all have insanely large image files to boot up when people just wanna do 3 clicks. its incredibly easy to compress images, you can do it right from your browser and usually theres no way to even tell the difference between a compressed image and a non-compressed (at least when its been resized like the foraging locations are). the same issue comes up with the items, inventories take forever to load now and i think the problem is because EVERY NEW ITEM IS ON A 1000x1000 CANVAS. for reference, lorekeeper recommends 100x100 for items. you do NOT need a canvas that big, and it shows they dont really know how to make items.
listen, i dont mean to hate on terra artists or whatever, just gonna point out examples
the problem with using such a big canvas for items is that you create a lot of tiny details that arent needed for an item icon. think of items in video games, you want to make something visually appealing and recognizable with as little detail as possible. the pincher potion, gummy eye, and silk wyrm are good examples of this, limited palettes, strong linework, and enough contrast/strong silhouette to be recognized from far away. i think the fur pop, shell pot, and moonfin are examples of how not to do items. the fur pop is too overly rendered, and the linework is very thin and small within the actual lollipop. the moonfin and shell pot both have small details (ie. the tassel on the moonfin’s arrow + the bits of fur on the shell pot) and the rendering issue from before. reminder that these are eventually going to be used as emojis on the discord, theyll be incredibly hard to read at such a small size plus incredibly unrecognizable to users familiar with the old items. in addition, the shell pot lacks direction in design, it reads more as an item that would grant a tail trait or a mist trait, not shell/exoskeleton. fallen tail, monstera bat, and horseshoe beetle also have these issues, but theyre similar enough to the old items that people will probably still recognize them.
like, look at these iconic items. they are so popular because theyre simple and recognizable from a distance, you can make them as big or as small as you want, you can see it from 10 feet away and still know what it is. THATS good item design.
i think this goes back to “mods hiring their friends,” you just pick people on a personal bias and dont consider the level of skill in making specific items because item design is not the same as making fully finished rendered art. it takes a different eye and you need to think of different principles than you would when making a full piece.
and heres the thing, that doesnt even necessarily mean the art is bad. the fur pop for example, has a very distinct and eye catching style; however, the issue is that theres no uniformity WHATSOEVER. these dont look like theyre all part of the same world, if all the items were done in the same gritty rendered style of the fur pop i would say its a great set, its the fact that you have some items that are incredibly simple, some that are “gritty,” and some that are just silly.
if nothing else, at the very least PLEASE make your canvas smaller and compress your images, youre making the site painful to use (and thats especially an issue when your site has so little functionality anyways)

i have so much to say aboht the avavav runway
can we hear it? because from one side i get it, the whole thing is about the rush of the fashion world, the hidden part that people don’t get to see. but from another side… idk it looked kinda corny to me… there were some cool outfits but overall i found it underwhelming
I forgot about this ask so im gonna give a very brief rundown of what I think then maybe get into it once I get my fashion blog set up properly bc im too scared to write on it rn .
long and short of it is that these runways are less about the clothing itself and more about the impact and presentation of the collection. its more of a performance art piece than it is an opportunity to observe trends in high end fashion and this is something that avavav is popular for- their Milan fw23 show creating this narrative about fast fashion and the superficiality of the fashion industry with the clothes intentionally breaking and falling apart as the models walked down the runway. 2022 I think was her first show where all of the models intentionally tripped and fell and it sent the fashion realm into a tizzy bc ppl were so upset at the bad quality of the show which is exactly what she wanted to happen bc it was a commentary on the seriousness of the fashion industry and the desire to seem rich that causes this disconnect from our humanity because we want to be perfect we want everything to be perfect and I love her for that .
avavav runways are just so iconic to me I love the way she utilises clothing, the set, even the models to create this story and bring to light an understanding within the audience of the internal problems of the fashion industry like this one about how designers are expected to churn out designs keep on top of ever-changing trends and how designers struggle to meet these expectations because their creative freedom is limited by time constraints and pressure so its this display of unfinished garments it starts seemingly fine until the model turns round with and 'add back? note where the rest if the garment should be and that evolves to become these shapeless oddly structured garments like the styrofoam blocks the duct tape the post it note suit to close the collection that just visualises the designers desperation to finish the collection on time now just using anything around her to add to garments that she can fix later she can shape later she'll do it she's just under so much pressure right now hence the collection title no time to design .
I love beate karlsson I think its such and interesting display of activism and commentary through fashion snd I bet its fun for the models too .

mothman
sup so my last infodump post didn't get a lot of notes but im here for fun not for reach so lets fuckin go lads this is also one of my top 5 cryptids i love mothman also doing research for this i found out the mothman museum does mothman coffee and i need to purchase it now (heres the link for anyone else who feels the same abt mothman coffee) the majority of sources for this are wikia and wikipedia pages as the lore surrounding mothman is difficult to decipher and I am in the UK so i cannot access some american sites as I say here, therefore I would urge you to take that for what it is and understand i can't find everything.
Mothman is a creature of West Virginia folklore who is humanoid and is primarily spotted around the Point Pleasant area. Sightings of mothman are said to have started around November of 1966. From what I've seen the existence of the Point Pleasant Mothman (or any other mothman) hasn't been proven (unfortunately), and most photographic evidence is debated and primarily any other evidence is anecdotal.
The first documented record of mothman in a newspaper was in the Point Pleasant Register, dated at 16/11/66 (or 11/16/66 for American folks) titled: "Couples See Man-Sized Bird ... Creature ... Something". The story then continued to spread when more national papers picked up the story which spread it across the states. The mothman is considered by skeptics to be sightings of out-of-migration sandhill cranes or herons.
Mothman was popularized by the book "Mothman Prophecies" in 1975 by John Keel (which was later adapted into a film in 2002) and there is an annual festival dedicated to Mothman every third weekend in September at Point Pleasant. There, there is also a mothman statue which has a camera streaming on it.
The original sighting was, the 15th of November 1966 and Linda Scarberry, Roger Scarberry, Steve Mallette and Mary Mallette were all driving towards a remote "hang-out spot" in Point Pleasant known as the "TNT Area" (which was the site of a former ww2 munitions plant). They then claim to have seen two large red eyes which reflected the light from the car headlights. It was noticed first by Steve, who pointed it out to the rest of them, which is when they realized the eyes belonged to a creature. The creature was later described by Linda Scarberry as a "slender, muscular man" and around 7 feet tall, with white wings, although she couldn't discern its face due to a 'hypnotic effect' from it's eyes. Panicking, the witnesses drove away rapidly and claim that the creature followed them, flying and making a screeching sound. They said that it pursued them until Point Pleasant city limits.
In the following days, after local newspaper reports, people reported similar sightings, however these were believed by Mason County sheriff George Johnson that these sightings were due to an unusually large heron.
There have, however, been mentions of specific traits of the mothman such as when a flashlight was aimed at the mothman (by contractor Newell Partridge, according to him, the eyes glowed "like bicycle reflectors". He also blamed buzzing noises, believed to be from his television, and the disappearance of his german shepherd dog on the creature.
Wildlife biologist Robert Smith, at the West Virginia University spoke to reporters and told them that the descriptions and sightings seem to fit the Sandhill Crane and the bird must have wandered out of its migration route and therefore it was unrecognized initially.
Following the Silver Bridge collapse of 1967, which brought about the untimely death of 46 people, the incident brought about the legend of Mothman being an omen, which connected the sightings and the collapse.
Mothman has become more of an urban legend, developing into part of the Point Pleasant tourism trade, including as mentioned the yearly Mothman festival, which I someday hope to go to. There are numerous different photos of mothman, which to my knowledge haven't been proven, however that's the extent of my knowledge on them as the websites are blocked in my country.
So yeah, that's the man, the moth and the legend.

Imma be honest with you, before BATDR came out, you literally held this fandom together with bandaids and stick glue. 2019-2022 was basically the dry age of Bendy content
haha thanks i tried my best
i Do enjoy being in a fandom, i've always looked up to the danny phantom phandom a lot cause the vibes there are just fantastic, there's a lot of things going on, people have many interactions with each other, so i wanted to try to introduce that to the batim fandom and i'd like to think that i sorta did
i know that it is a popular opinion to not engage with a large portion of the fandom but instead just grab a few friends and sit in a corner with them but like
engaging with a bigger portion of the fandom every now and then can be SO fun and give people an opportunity to meet other people and idk
fandoms are communities of people just united by liking A Thing so it can be challenging to make a space for many people to get along but i dont recall any super serious only fandom related dramas in batim?? weirdos are in every fandom and you just blast their asses into oblivion with a block button
and there have been cases when i felt kinda bad for blocking someone because that meant i'd exclude them from something i wanted to think of as a fandom-wide event for everyone who would obey it's rules but that's where this outlook on curating your experience into a smaller circle is very much the way to go lol
wait what am i talking about
aha yea 2019-2022 everything fucking DIED here but i was having a blast drawing my comic and also a lot of people who were into the sides of batim i was into mainly (the human characters) stayed around more than everyone else and it was really chill, i've met a lot of people and made many friendships :)
as the fandom was getting smaller there was a noticable drop in the amount of notes batim related posts were getting which is a very big symptom of a fandom dying but i think at some point it sorta stabilized who stayed there after batdr was delayed and delayed
i reblog and tag more than an usual tumblr user (when im active cuz sometimes i can not reblog anything for months because im busy lol) and that didnt start without a reason, it sure is a habit now and i really enjoy doing it, letting people know what i think about their stuff and putting nice things on display for others to see
reblogs are not just crucial for singular artists but also for fandoms as a whole, thats how you keep that train rollin
though here is a sad thing that many many artists dont reblog a lot, or reblog to their sideblogs that arent followed by nearly as many people as their main blogs
and thats like understandable, im the weirdo who puts a whole mess of many posts on my main but i think thats also the most effective way to help other people get traction and i never see this mentioned when people complain that tumblr users dont reblog as much stuff as they like
its even kinda funny to me when people complain about their stuff not getting reblogged when they dont reblog others stuff themselves at all xD though there is a bit of cyanide in that thought heheh
on the other hand reblogging doesnt work on stuff that i could see from other people: the stuff i reblog i get from browsing the bendy and the ink machine tag sorted by new + sometimes when i bored i scroll through my dash and reblog some random things but i follow 2k people so i dont really see any individuals art specifically, just a collection of random posts that i am able to scroll through in a few minutes (and every minute theres a bunch of new posts posted/reblogged by those i follow)
and that can take a long time! if ive been busy for months then scrolling through a few months worth of stuff people around the world made for bendy is so bad even on a beefy computer that it just pushes tumblr to its limits and takes HOURS to reblog and tag for me, and then i might even hit the daily post limit and have to continue tomorrow
but i enjoy doing this, bendy is my fixation after all and i fucking love art and what people can create for this thing that i like i soooooo desire to see it all
and i try to reblog as much as possible, though i dont obviously reblog *everything* from the tag, sometimes i just give a like or i just dont like the thing cuz its not in my liking and thats it
but i did make it a thing that during ink demonth i reblog all entries for the event no matter what my opinion of them is just to give some of that Exposure TM because hey maybe some of my followers Will like it
i dont run a super duper popular blog but there is a bunch of yall there and i think me reblogging something in this fandom at least may give a litol boost to the notes on a post
and its always fun to see peoples reactions that dont expect me to reblog from them but then i do and they freak out a little, i think i love it on the same level as getting comments on my own art :) its super wholesome
man by writing this post im procrastinating on something but fdnjkfdfd
but anyway thank you!! and im glad you think so because i did try to accomplish that :D

ive been using tumblr on and off for years reading fics for different kpop fandoms and enjoying the content, but lately ive gotten so bored.
i noticed the same tropes repeating themselves for different idols with the same repetitive storyline and predictable ending. and these type of fics are so popular which makes the algorithm push them in your face even more😭😭
but writers are allowed to write what they want to write and readers are allowed to support and read what they want to read and i stand by that, but at the same time its hard to find something other than the 10-15 tropes ive read like 30 times before -each😭😭-
and like i said i use tumblr on and off so i dont really dig -that- deep for fanfics + the tumblr algorithm makes finding what i want 10x harder so im just bombarded with the same stuff i read like tons of times before in the form of a fanfic for a another idol
so when i found lucid and arcane it would be an understatement to say i was so so pleasantly surprised 🥺🥺🥺 your work is so original and i can confidently say i haven’t found anything like it on tumblr, you’re so talented and your ideas + storytelling are literally the best ive found on this app so far
it would be such a shame if you didn’t continue arcane, its such a good story and its idea is so original and unique, leaving it unfinished is such a waste.
Hello! First of all, thank you so much for sending this. I almost did not want to answer it because I want to keep it in my inbox and reread it every time I need inspiration. I want to share my thoughts with you though.
I know that there are certain tropes that work well here and I completely understand their popularity. Some people just prefer a certain genre and storyline and I myself are a silent enjoyer of them too.
I do know that my fics mostly are not a common preference of some and I am honestly okay with that. It is simply a style that I am comfortable writing and I'm happy to stick with it.
On the other hand, I will be lying if I say that interactions do not have an impact on my work. As someone with a fulltime job and other adulting responsibilities, writing a full chapter means I will have to spend many hours of my limited personal time for a fic. Now, imagine doing that and having little engagement–you can't even be sure if there are still people reading.
I wish I could be the same like before and say engagement doesn't matter as long as you love what you are doing, but it does. This is why I want to thank you for sharing this with me because even something simple as this can make a creator's resolve.
Thank you for supporting Lucid and Arcane!

There's a huge general audience lowkey waiting for last twilight but it still doesn't have enough hype specially given it an Aof series. Is it because the boys are still fairly new we need to help them get more positive exposure prior to the airing of the show
i have to admit my perception of the general QL fandom is very limited because i tend to stay in my little corner doing my own thing, but most days it does feel to me like the only people looking forward to last twilight are nomnoms ;;;;;;
im sure there are actually other people that are interested in it, but like you said the hype for the show is still pretty contained, and i think part of it is due to the fact that unfortunately jimmysea is not a popular pairing (YET): a good chunk of the fandom seems to have wrote them off completely after vice versa, and since they're such introverts who have no idea what fanservice is they tend to go under everyone's radar
it also doesn't help that, without entering any kind of discourse, p'aof is waaayyy less popular now compared to even just a year ago, so the general excitement for his series went down as well. there are also those who are quite curious about the show but refrain from getting too involved because they have completely understandable concerns on how disability is gonna be portrayed
my own personal feelings for jimmysea aside, i honestly think it's a pity that the hype for the show is so limited considering how important the representation is, but hopefully once the series starts airing more people will get interested in it!!!!!
also my idea of positive exposure is to scream about them and be overall insufferable on main which is probably.. not the best tactic ;;;;;; so if anyone has any idea on how to spread some positivity and excitement about our boys before the show airs i'll be more than happy to participate in that!!!!!!
#MASS REBLOG OF ALL THE LAST TWILIGHT GIFSETS DAY???? MAKING A POST ABOUT OUR PERSONAL EXPECTATIONS FOR THE SHOW AND WHY WE LOVE JIMMYSEA????#IM SERIOUSLY DOWN FOR ANYTHING OUR BOYS DESERVE ALL THE LOVE AND RECOGNITION#for a second i thought i could make a single post without capslocking but lbr. that's just not who i am ;;;;;#jimmysea#last twilight the series#m: ask

i really appreciate you keeping the community alive, i’ve been stalking but im too scared to write anything. Do you have any musings on drunk hiccups?
Thank you for connecting with me! Even doing so anonymously is a big step and I appreciate you conversing with me even while nervous.
Drunk hiccups are pretty popular not only in the hiccup kink community but just in general media. I think, initially, I appreciated drunk hiccups because it was one of the few ways I could consume hiccups through television/books. But nowadays I'm not as much of a fan.
There's something about the mental limitations drunkenness often showcases that puts me off of either being amused or attracted to someone who is drunk. I think I understand the attraction, though. Drunkenness, like hiccups, is a loss of control. It's also a door in which to see parts of a person that normally wouldn't be available because of social expectation or their personal limitations on expressing emotions.
There is something to be said when, while drunk, someone lets loose a genuine feeling they had been holding back because of some shame connected to it.
This all being said (and in my usual long-winded way) drunk hiccups don't really "do" it for me. It's almost like this person isn't entirely in control of themselves and can't really comprehend the things happening to them (depending on level of drunkenness) so that makes me nervous about wanting to enjoy the hiccups.
Now a caveat is tipsy hiccups. Tipsy is just when you start feeling relaxed. You are still cognizant of what's happening and you'll very likely remember everything the next day. You're just mildly sedated, in a way. You're a little more vulnerable, but you're still self-aware.
Tipsy hiccups, as opposed to having hiccups while not being able to stand or speak clearly, still cause a reaction of surprise. Part of the thing I have for hiccups is the dichotomy of wanting to be in control of your body but not being able. Drunkenness takes that contrast away by just completely abandoning a person to whatever happens. Tipsiness makes it possible to sort of marry the two because a tipsy hiccuper will hiccup with more abandon as they are relaxed, but they will still be fighting them a little.
Perhaps someone on their second glass of sparkling wine suddenly gets the hiccups and abandons drinking the rest scolding themselves because they know sparkling wine always gives them hiccups! So they try and fail at curing the hiccups because their focus in a little off and they just sort of let them be and put up with any comments or laughter from their friends.
I suppose, when it comes down to it, I'm not really a fan of drunkenness in general. Perhaps the only time I appreciate drunkenness in writing and characters is when someone drinks because some emotional trigger has been pulled and they need to get out of their heads. But all it does, when they drink, is make the emotions they're trying to avoid all the more potent. A friend is there to take care of them and offers a shoulder to cry on and an ear to them as they process all of the emotions they've been ignoring or pushing down.
That application of a drunk character goes more with my whump leaning than my hiccup kink.
Gosh, I hope this post wasn't too long. I never mean to write as much as I do. But I get to thinking and then just *gestures above* this happens.
I do want to make sure to note that I have no judgement toward people who love drunk hiccups! You should love drunk hiccups! If your character or fantasy involves drunk hiccups, then you should absolutely get pleasure from them!
