Dreamwalker Siblings
Chapter I: Cryo-sleep Masterlist Summary: Y/n and Jake Sully. Siblings, shipped off into the depths of space to explore the mysterious world of Pandora. Warnings: Mentions of death, reader is NOT excited at all, Constant reminder of deceased loved one. Word count: 3,6k
"You cannot ask this of us! Tommy is the scientist not us. He wanted to be shot light years into space, not us. We cannot do it." I shrieked, pleading with my brother for validation, but my cries were met with oppressive silence. His gaze fixed onto our fallen sibling, Tommy, robbed of life right before he went off to do the only thing that put a smile to his face. All sacrificed for the contents of his wallet.
"Your brother represented a significant investment, we'd urge you to accept taking over his contract." The man besides Jake had said, completely disregarding all that I had said. "I'm sure he would hate to have all his hard work go to waste, knowing someone so close to him would be able to continue his legacy." The second man, besides me, added with a curt nod.
Outrage boils within me at the audacity of these men, exploiting the loss of one of us, former triplets, as leverage against us. How dare they use Jake and I with their clear motives of greed, revealing to us that our worth to them is nothing but a budget they refuse to abandon.
"It'll be a fresh start, on a new world. And the pays good, very good." they said staring at Jake and I. Before I could even say something in retaliation. Jake had spoken for the first time that night. "We'll do it." Disbelief swept over me as I locked eyes with him. How could he agree so easily? How could he not see that these men were just using us— he probably could, yet chose to turn a bind eye.
"Perfect, Y/n we will get your Avatar ready, they will mature on the trip there." the men said walking out, leaving me in there with Jake.
"How could you just accept like that Jake. You caved! Just like that? You know they are just playing us, and you still went along with it! Don't you see–" I started, but he interrupted me. "Maybe you don't see it, but I do. We are dirt poor Y/n! Struggling... This cash could change everything. We could finally be able to live." he pleaded, desperate for understanding. "I could afford to use my legs again." he confessed.
While I was sitting there, next to my brother, a big whole blown right in the middle of our lives, I started having these dreams. Dreams that whispered secrets of possibility and untold wonders. Sooner or later though, you always have to wake up.
As I wake up, I glance around and it hits me, I'm in some sort of cryo pod. Flashbacks flood my mind, reminding me of the time before my life had got frozen, five years of my life, gone. The memories of Tommy's death, as if it was yesterday. 'We had to do it, so we could live." I think to myself, trying to find comfort in all of this.
"Rise and shine sleepy head." a doctor had greeted me as I exit the cryo pod I had spent the last five years of my life in. "We're here."
"Exo-packs on! Let's go! Exo packs on! Remember people, you lose that mask, you're unconscious in 20 seconds, and dead in four minutes–" I stopped listening to what the sergeant had to say. Looking around my eyes landing on Jake. We should not be here, this is not our home. But what's the point in dwelling now, there's no turning back. I think to myself while putting on my exo pack, adjusting it so oxygen could freely flow through.
"When that ramp comes down, go directly into the base. Do not stop! Go straight inside wait for my mark!" the sergeant yelled. Standing up I walk over to Jake who was still seated waiting for everyone in front of him to leave the air craft so that he was able to freely able to deploy his wheelchair.
"Let's go special case! Do not make me wait for you Sully's!" he barks. Not bothering to acknowledge him Jake and I walk off the ramp and onto Pandora, our "fresh start." Taking a long look around I spot soldiers, back on earth these guys were heroes, marines fighting for freedom. But out here they were all just a bunch of hired guns, serving the RDA until their last breath.
"You're not in Kansas anymore, you're on Pandora ladies and gentlemen–" the man, Quartrich, continued. Tommy was meant to be listening to this, not Jake and I.
"Excuse me. Excuse me. Jake!" a lanky man rushes up to us after the "safety brief." "You're Jake right? Tom's brother." he asked looking down at him to meet his eyes. I just stare at him, does he just not see me here?
"You look just like him." he says eyes finally landing on me. "Sorry– I forgot he had mentioned he had two siblings, Y/n. I'm Norm. Spellman. Went through Avatar training with him." he says leading us into some sort of bio-lab.
As Norm continues briefing us on the bio-lab procedures, my attention drifts, drawn to avatars in three separate cry-chambers. I approach them, circling until I stop at a particular one.
"Looks like him." Jake and I simultaneously say, not once taking our eyes off what our brother could have been.
"No, looks like you. This is your avatar now Jake." Norm reassures him placing a hand on Jakes shoulder before moving to the last tube in the bio-lab.
"And this is your avatar Y/n. She had to get to the lab as soon as possible, since you know–" Norm starts, but I cut in, "–I wasn't meant to be here. Yeah, I'm aware." I finish, stepping closer to my avatar.
She looks so much like me, except for the obvious differences. Blue skin, a queue, and her sheer size. "She's beautiful." I whisper, touching the glass, feeling a soft heartbeat pass between us.
"The idea is that every driver is matched to their own Avatar, so their nervous systems are in tune... Or something. That's why they offered us the gig. It's insanely expensive... Is this right? Do we just say whatever to the video log?" Jake questions turning to Norm and Max.
"And do we have to share the exact same camera to film these things?" I interject, trying to nudge Jake out of the screens view.
"Yeah, you both need to document everything you see, what you feel. Plus, you're twins, who knows if you both are able to feel the same emotions or not. It's all apart of the science." Norm explains, retuning to his work.
"Plus it'll keep you sane for the next six years," Norm adds chuckling.
"Not if I have to sit next to Mr. Jarhead it's not." I remark, rolling my eyes but smiling slightly.
"Look who's talking Miss. 'I might not be a marine, but I sure can beat your ass,' " Jake adds, playfully pushing me.
This was one the first times I had smiled since arriving to Pandora. Usually keeping a stoic face, only smiling around my brother. My only family, the only thing from my past life.
Entering the link room behind Norm and Max, we're greeted by a voice. "Who's got my goddamn cigarette?" a redheaded woman demands, emerging from one of the link pods.
"Grace Augustine is a legend. She's the head of the Avatar Program. She wrote the book, I mean literally write the book on Pandora botany." Norm gushes. "Well that's because she likes plants more than people." Max adds teasingly.
"Well, there she is, Cinderella back from the ball. Grace, I'd like you to meet Norm Spellman, and Jake and Y/n Sully." Max says pointing at each of us in turn.
"Norm, I've heard good things about you. How's your Na'vi?" she asks, completely ignoring my brother and me, then begins to speak in a language I can only assume is Na'vi.
"Uh- Grace, this is Jake and Y/n Sully," Max interjects, trying to redirect her attention.
"Yeah, yeah. I know who you are, and I don't need you. I need your brother. You know. the PhD who trained for years for this mission? Yeah him." she snaps.
"He's dead. We know it's a big inconvenience for everyone, including me." I reply bluntly. There's no need to sugar coat anything that's already happened.
"How much lab training have you had?" she asks, looking between Jake and I.
"We dissected a frog once." Jake simply states.
"You see? I mean, they're just pissing on us without even the courtesy of calling it rain. I mean hell, the girl isn't even supposed to be here! I'm going to Selfridge, this is such bullshit." she rants, storming off but not before putting out her cigar.
"Well she's kind." I remark dryly.
As Jake and I arrive precisely at the time Max had instructed us to the day before, 0800, Jake and I hasten to catch up with Grace and Norm, who are already stationed at the link pods.
"You're late Sully's. You're in there, you're here." Grace remarks, gesturing towards two pods for Jake and I, and we obediently follow her directions.
"How much have you both logged?" she inquires, turning to the screen besides Jakes link pod.
"Zip, but I read a manual." Jake replies with a nonchalant shrug, as he wheels over to his pod.
"I listened to him read it out loud, if that counts." I confess making my way to my own pod.
"Tell me you're joking." Grace says incredulously, as she abandons her work on Jakes screen to approach mine.
"So you just decided to venture out here, to the most hostile environment known to man with no training whatsoever and see how it went? What was going on through your head?" she questions, setting up both mine and Jakes link screens for launch.
"Maybe I was tired of doctors telling what I couldn't do." Jake retorts, lying down in this link pod. I look at him wondering if that is why he spared no chance in me saying anything back when those men asked us to take the place of Tommy, because he was tired of the life he had.
"Keep you arms in, heads down." Grace instructs, pushing me into my link bed before I had the chance to ask Jake what he had truly meant.
"Just relax and let your mind go blank." are the last words I hear Grace utter before she seals my link pod.
Off to the side, Max examines scans of Jake and my brain. Studying the intently, he remarks. "Jakes brain is gorgeous, with nice activity. However we're detecting some resistance in Y/n's brain. She's unconsciously pushing back against the transfer, if this continues it could potentially harm the link." he informs, turning to Grace for guidance.
"Once the link is established, it cannot be interrupted. It will only worsen the issue," Grace states matter-of-factly, keeping an eye on my Avatar. Stubborn and resistant to change- that's Grace's initial assessment of Y/n, even after less than 48 hrs of meeting her.
As my eyes flutter open, I'm greeted by a blinding light that pierces my eyes. A sharp ache throbs in my head, intensifying until two figures materialize before me- doctors, no doubt.
"She's awake. Y/n, can you hear me? Are you feeling alright?" the female doctor inquires, checking my expression for any sign of discomfort.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I reply, opting not to mention the pounding headache. Slowly, I sit up, only to find my hands adorned with five blue fingers.
"I made it." I murmur to myself in disbelief. Glancing around, I notice Jake already on his feet, a grin stretching across his face. He's standing, a sight I never thought I'd witness again, his legs finally functioning.
"Y/n you've got to see this. When's the last time you saw your brother standing tall, huh?" he exclaims, turning to face me while his tail knocks over everything in it's path.
Finally on my feet, I chuckle, "Bro, we're giants." The realisation hits me as I gaze at Jake and then towards the exit to find that he was already smiling at me– we're thinking the same thing. Tri– Twin telepathy perhaps?
Without a word Jake and I bolt, dodging Avatars engaged in a game of basketball, evading Norm and the two doctors running after us. We hurdle obstacles until a humanoid robot comes into view.
"Sorry! we both exclaim breathlessly, narrowly avoiding a collision as we skid to a stop near some flora. Catching our breath, we're approached by an avatar bearing striking resemblance to Grace.
"Hey, Sully's!" she calls out, closing in on us.
"Grace?" Jake questions, eyeing her up and down.
"Who else were you expecting numbnuts?" she retorts with a grin, with me laughing at the nickname Grace gave him.
As Jake and Grace catch up, I slip away into the area where Avatars are housed, searching for a change of attire. Opting for a top similar to Graces but in a deep shade of blue, that are about a shade darker than my current skin tone, pairing it with green cargo shorts. Hoping to blend in slightly to the flora and fauna of the forest.
Gazing up at the darkening sky, I realize it's nearly nightfall, meaning I had to delink for the night. "Alright, everyone, settle down! Lights out." Grace commands, ushering the remaining humans away.
"See you at dinner kiddos," she adds, flicking the lights off.
Lying back, I can still feel the remnants of the headache, but I decided to let sleep wash it away. Closing my eyes, I drift off into a peaceful slumber.

what are those 5 things? 👀
Seeing people start admit that maybe Imogen and Laudna did in fact pressure Fearne excessively hard to take the shard. I think it's good Fearne took it in the end, but yeah they really made it difficult for her to express her doubts and that was shitty of them. I got extensive hate for saying that at the time from people who are literally saying the same thing now. It's very funny.
The (entirely valid) complaints I've seen that people care more about imo/dna as a ship than Laudna as a character and are making her book solely about the fact that Imogen will show up in it. I pointed out this exact same problem occurring while Laudna was dead, almost two years ago.
Caleb considering leaving the Nein means they aren't really bonded. Imogen considering leaving Bells Hells means she's so perfect and caring and selfless and noble and good. Anyway yeah sure I definitely believe that if Imogen were a man played by Liam everyone would definitely be totally uncritical and love everything she did. (This is also a layered one, given how Twitter has been bashing Orym nonstop for over a year).
I know it's been a month and I've said this repeatedly so this is a bit tacky but I'm still riding the absolute Irony High of people being like "STOP TALKING ABOUT HUBRIS STOP TALKING ABOUT HUBRIS anyway of COURSE Bells Hells would NEVER see the gods as a messed up family, just like them" and then jump cut to Laudna literally saying that. It's just genuinely so funny that people mad at everyone calling Aeor full of hubris proceeded to get their wax wings straight up vaporized at the top of episode 102.
People calling imo/dna the bestest most organic most slow-burn sapphic ship ever (it's not even the longest slow-burn f/f ship on Critical Role; even if you're stupid enough to count the two years we know virtually nothing about just for the purposes of padding out the time to eliminate Beauyasha on a technicality - nevermind that slowburn is about the length of the story itself and not the length of time the characters have known each other, since it's obvious that if someone said 'here's Jane and Kate, they've known each other for 300 years, now they are kissing' this would not be a satisfying slowburn unless like, you went back and filled in the 300 years - Kimallura STILL wins) but as someone who received a decent amount of harassment for saying it wasn't very interesting and as such kept tabs on the people engaging in that harassment...they've been dropping like flies. If it's the best sapphic ship ever and it's canon and you're in the top 5 ships for the show of all time on ao3 and Delilah's gone and they're going to get their cottage, funny how a good chunk of the shippers haven't even managed to stay interested in CR. Also why are half the people who HAVE kept up like hmmmm what if I threw Fearne or Ashton in there. Like believe me, I support a poly hells situation, but uh. quite a tumble for what people used to call the Beating Heart Of The Campaign (TM).
Bonus! This is below a cut because it has spoilers for next week's Re-Slayer's Take that's only out for Beacon subscribers but
we see Devexian, and he meets Frog (an aeormaton PC) and his overall statement on Aeor is "it created us to serve, and we fought for our autonomy. It was both a beautiful and terrible place. Anyway the past is past, what's important is that we as aeormatons take our chance to live now, and my personal goal is not just to bring back as many aeormatons as I can, but learn how to make more aeormatons." He is completely uninterested, at least in 839 PD, in any sort of action against the gods. Like, I think he regrets the fall of Aeor because a lot of Aeormatons and knowledge died in it but he literally is like "your life is defined by your own choices, not your designation at the time of Aeor." The actual survivors of the fall of Aeor are like anyway, we want acceptance, autonomy, and the means to control our own production in modern day Exandria. Ludinus whomst.

On Oliver's social media behavior regarding Bucktommy vs. Buddie
Kind of in line with many of the good points raised by @bbbuckaroo in this ask response, but I wanted to make my own post about it.
I, too, have seen posts that prompted this ask - from more well-meaning people remarking that Oliver could/should maybe say something against the toxic Buddie shippers and promote Bucktommy more, to more critical voices saying he's essentially ship-baiting with Buddie because he keeps posting about them.
As the referenced post says, Oliver "knows how important and pivotal the Buddie FRIENDSHIP is".
So let's look at that from Oliver's (and in connection also Ryan's) point of view for a moment here.
You're an actor who's been playing one half of what is one of the most integral relationships on a very successful show. That relationship has textually always been a friendship, but with elements that make it richer and deeper than most regular friendships; it's a sort of family dynamic.
It could be read as having a potential for romance, and you're open to that, should the writers ever decide that's the direction they want to take it. You have said so multiple times, not just to appease a large group of fans, but because you genuinely mean it. You're open to it, but you don't know if it's ever going to happen, nor do you have any power over it.
You do love the way fans are celebrating this relationship though - whether they highlight the canonical platonic aspects or take it a step further. You "love the love" (as Ryan has put it). It's great, it's heartwarming, it's moving because the potential of that romance and your character figuring out he's bisexual means so much to queer fans who are looking for good queer representation (which your show already has, but there could always be a bit more, right?). You see and want to acknowledge all the creativity people pour into it.
But you're careful after a while, because, so far, that relationship has only textually been platonic, and some fans are accusing both the writers and you of queerbaiting.
So you take a step back, do less social media for a while. You don't want them to think you're confirming anything just because you see value in certain fictional interpretations of the text.
But then you are told that your character is supposed to come out as bisexual; he'll have a romance with a background character they're bringing back for a couple of episodes. While that's not exactly the relationship many of the fans hoped to get, it's still amazing. It's the right representation of bisexual characters that is very rarely done right, and it'll confirm that they always read your character correctly as bisexual. It'll be so validating to the fans to know they didn't misinterpret that, and you're very happy about that.
But you still love the family-like, platonic relationship you've built with the other character for 5 whole seasons before this. And you love the relationship your character has with his son, too. (In a way, Buck is to Christopher what Bobby is to Buck - a father figure).
You want to keep celebrating that because your new romantic relationship doesn't replace the year-long friendship with Eddie. You want to show fans that 'hey, even though this isn't exactly what you hoped for, it's still great; it's important. Eddie and Chris are still and always will be a huge part of Buck's life. Don't worry. Buck will not abandon them. I still see you and acknowledge you, but let's focus on the textual friendship and platonic love here. Which is also very, very important, and very dear to me personally."
And there isn't that much to share about a romantic relationship that's just begun yet anyway, especially with the season being so short and packed with multiple story arcs around the main characters. It's all still at the start, and while it's great, exciting and has the potential to become something lasting, nothing's set in stone yet. You probably also don't want to have people get their hopes up that Bucktommy is 'confirmed' as endgame; and you don't want to put a main character who has his own, very complex story arc going on this season on the backburner.
You've obviously 'done it wrong'. But no matter how else you could have done it, it would have been wrong as well. You probably know this by now, because no matter what you did in the past, there were always people who interpreted your actions and words in bad faith to confirm their own agenda.
So what the hell are you supposed to do other than what feels good to you while applying a little bit of caution?
---
Oliver CANNOT get it right. It's simply impossible. If he didn't post at all, some fans would be mad that he doesn't say anything. If he only or primarily promoted Bucktommy, they'd be mad that he ignores Eddie and Chris entirely. If he only promoted Buddie (platonic) and Chris, they'd be mad that he's ship baiting. And if he goes for the balance of putting his character's 6-year history with Eddie+Chris and the newly developing romance with Tommy in perspective, i.e. what he's doing right now, they're still mad.
In any potential scenario, the loud and obnoxiously entitled portion of the fandom would find a reason to criticize. It really does not matter what he does.
So, where does that leave us? Personally, I'd say leave the man alone. Let him post and say what he feels is best, and don't try to look at it under any 'bad faith' lens. He's probably given it sufficient thought and does what he thinks is best and feels right.
#Oliver Stark#bucktommy#buddie#yes I'm tagging it as that because it's about that ship too#buddie but platonic#platonic buddie#fandom discourse#911 discourse#911#this post isn't anti buddie#and I believe Oliver isn't anti buddie either#it's ONE interpretation of the show#but it's fanon as of now#and imho indefinitely#luckily there are many buddie shippers who get that#but the obnoxious ones are sadly the loudest#as always

Things to Do on Ice
I adjusted the heat shawl against my neck, tugging my collar over it to keep out the chill breeze. Heatseekers sure knew what they were doing when it came to warming devices. A regular scarf had nothing on this. It was almost enough to let me forget the snowy temperatures on this alien planet.
Not that I could fully forget, with the snow drifting down into the streets anywhere there wasn't a storefront with a heat-field umbrella. The city-goers were from a range of species, and anyone who didn't have heavy fur was bundled up against the cold in some way.
Even Zhee, who objected to coats on the grounds that they covered up his glorious purple exoskeleton, was sporting a range of scarves and bracelets that radiated heat. It seemed like an inefficient way to keep warm to me, but that was his business.
Speaking of business, there were hours left before our ship was due to leave, and everyone was taking the chance to see the sights. Zhee and I had volunteered to scout out the tourism hub. Several others would be joining us shortly.
“Is that the sports arena?” I asked when a wide building loomed ahead.
“Yes.” Zhee pointed out a sign with his pincher arm. I'd missed it because of all the burly, yeti-like locals milling around in front of it. “One building, many sports, all open to anyone.”
I was more than a little curious to see what sort of sports were played here. “Let's take a look! Paint and Eggskin will probably come here first anyway; it's bound to be warmer in there.”
“A valid point,” Zhee agreed, stepping quickly. His clicky bug feet had the most adorable little booties on, for all the world like something a toddler would wear to keep from slipping on the kitchen floor. The sparkly thread woven through the rim probably meant they were high fashion where Mesmers were concerned. I hoped they were waterproof.
I tromped through the slush in my normal human boots, and soon enough we entered the arena doorway to a much more comfortable temperature. I found the control tab for the heat shawl and turned it off, though I left it draped under my shirt.
Zhee deactivated several bracelets. “A respectable range of sports,” he observed.
I scanned the signs. “I don’t recognize the names of any of these.”
“The viewing areas are this way,” Zhee said, padding off down the main hallway. “Perhaps you will recognize one if you see it in action.”
Surprisingly enough, I did.
“Is that hockey?” I asked a moment later, staring through the big window at the ice rink where two mixed teams of local yetis and offworld Smashers careened around in chase of something small. The full-body thumps vibrated through the floor.
“They’re calling it ‘puck chase,’ Zhee said, reading a sign.
“That’s amazing. We have this exact sport where I’m from.” I looked for differences. The puck looked bigger and heavier, and the sticks were a different shape. Judging by the amount of violence going on, the rules were probably different too. But it was very much the same on the surface, with goalies in front of nets and everything. “I suppose it’s an obvious sort of game to think up when there’s a lot of ice around, but still. I know a few people who would have loved to see this.”
Zhee sniffed. “It’s a bit pedestrian.”
“I suppose,” I said with a smile. “Not your style?”
“I’ve never been one for the more feminine sports,” Zhee said with a flick of his antennae.
“Feminine?” I asked.
He pointed with a pincher arm, keeping it carefully folded. “All this ‘protect the nest; steal the enemy’s egg’ nonsense.”
I blinked. “I guess that’s one way to think of it.”
“Judging by that sign though, there promises to be something more masculine down this way,” Zhee said. He headed off down the hallway.
I hurried to follow. The sign in question had another name I didn’t recognize, though I could guess. I dodged around a trio of yetis — which smelled like cinnamon and herbal tea, with none of the wet-dog scent I’d been subconsciously expecting. I reminded myself not to make unflattering assumptions, and caught up with Zhee just as he turned the corner.
“There we are!” he said in satisfaction. “Now that’s a sport. Even Trrili would have to appreciate this one.”
Figure skating. Aliens of a variety of body types and clothing styles glided around on the ice, leaping and spinning and generally being as flashy as they could. Somebody with wings was even doing a high-speed series of flips that were almost certainly a mating dance. Every skater moved past the others with elegance and grace, a far cry from the violence in the other room.
“I’ll be here for a while,” said Zhee’s voice, already farther away.
I turned to see him gliding toward the entrance to the arena, reactivating his heat bracelets and pulling a currency card from a belt pouch. A vending machine just inside the door looked like it sold force-field ice skates to fit any foot.
“All right, I’ll keep an eye out for the others,” I called after him, though I doubt he was listening. He disappeared through the door in a gust of cold air.
I looked around at the passersby, some of whom were watching the action with recording devices. I quietly got out my phone. I had a suspicion that seeing a praying-mantis-shaped alien strut his stuff in the manly art of ice dancing was about to be very memorable.
I was right.

Shamelessly inspired by this post.
These are the ongoing backstory adventures of the main character from this book. More to come! And I am currently drafting a sequel!

Hi,I hope we are not too annoyed with all our questions.
I'm new to the fandom, and after watching the show I really thought that Loustat would be the popular ship.I know most people are multi-shipper here, but it's funny how Louis and Lestat are not popular together. It seems like you've been here longer than many of us (books and Tv show)from you observations do you see major differences between fans favorite in the show and the books?
Also, have you changed your opinion on a character because of the show?
Not really to the latter.
I think the show cast the characters perfectly, so they fit for me. :) I like this Louis more, if anything. They enhanced him (though they did enhance them all, imho).
We lucked out so badly.
As per Loustat... *sighs*
You have to understand that Lestat is seen by many as the big bad abuser ™, and nothing else. No matter how often cast, crew, writers and creators have said that we have seen only half the story, no matter how often errors in the tale have been pointed out, no matter how often I have dug out the episode insider with Rolin pointing out the "tinkering" even then... anyone who doubted Louis' tale in any kind of fashion was met with accusations of racism and slurs.
I'm not kidding. I wish I was. I still have comments on my fics that I left there, on purpose. I have the asks here. There are people who call themselves my "number one hate blog".
I don't want to rehash all that now.
But imagine trying to write coming from the books, knowing what will happen, seeing the "seeds" in the show (as Assad called it), reading the interviews, knowing the tale will shift... and being met with something like that.
And now imagine not having the book background, and being harassed on anon, or with comments. And not having the background to defend your ship.
And I don't even mean actual criticism here, if valid or not.
No, I mean harassment. Accusations, death threats. Comparisons to the KKK. Whole campaigns against me, and others. Not kidding. I put my rants into my bio if you're interested, lol.
This is the fandom where I started blocking in earnest, and I come from friggin' Hannibal.
A tale like this, with racial changes in a color-conscious way (which actually brought the difficult topics into play (and I love them for it!)), left hanging for 18 months... that didn't do the fandom any good.
And some of the comments in the podcast didn't do it any good either with the expectations it raised, and which will be now... well. Not wholly disappointed, but... some took that as gospel. When it's not. It will be a bit messy soon, and with what's to come wrt to Claudia, too.
Soooo... that is why Loustat isn't particularly popular right now.
That will change though.
Rolin, as well as Sam and Jacob keep repeating that this show is built around Loustat.
Loustat are at the heart. They are the heart.
The books start and end with them.
The show foreshadows their dance at the end.
I for one am continuing to write for them, even if I have currently hit a wall on my current fic, but I was mightily distracted by all the new content^^ (like everyone else I think^^).
I love that they are so complicated, and messy, and petty, and so, so IN LOVE.
Jacob called it that, too. "Petty and in love".

No matter what Gege does with Gojo, I don’t think it will be satisfying for me
I considered every option for what could possibly happen with Gojo, regardless of how likely I think they are, and I genuinely can't find myself considering any of them a satisfying conclusion.
**1. He is dead and no one will mention him in the last chapter.**
Hate this. So much. Random civilians in Shibuya were shown respect by Yuji in the middle of chaos and panic, but nobody has ANYTHING nice to say about Gojo?? Since the fight ended, we got Kusakabe saying he is at fault for not killing Yuji and Shoko calling him an idiot (endearingly) for not destroying Geto's body. Lovely.
**2. He is dead and somebody will say something or we will be shown a grave.**
Better but still bad. I feel like the ship has sailed at this point. They had a chance while reflecting on the fight and we got nothing. Megumi and Shoko were at Tsumiki's grave and... we got nothing. I think it's pretty safe to say no one will be mourning him in the last chapter, they're already going on missions after all. And a simple mention feels incredibly cold and empty.
**3. He is dead but will come back to life due to his soul still not departing and sacrificing one of the Six Eyes in a binding vow.**
I won't comment on how possible or not this is because Yuta managed to return to his body simply by being in proximity of Rika. If Gege wants to write it, he can. However, we are talking about the last chapter of the manga and this would absolutely take away the spotlight from Yuji. Not to mention that this route needs groundwork that I don't think 19 pages can provide for. ALSO, this still doesn't explain why nobody is sad or willing to acknowledge him because, to them, he is dead.
**4. He is actually alive and that's why nobody has been shown to be sad about him.**
Would make sense in terms of characters like Yuji and Yuta not showing any emotion towards him. But this isn't like Nobara's situation. Like I said, it needs build up. A character like Gojo should be shown making his choice, not just appearing out of nowhere. It would add absolutely nothing to his arc and would honestly be pure fanservice.
**5. The dream theory.**
I don’t know how much you've heard about this but there is a theory going around that these last chapters or more have all been a dream. I won't do any analysis on the validity of it because this isn't important to my point. "Who's dream?" is the actual question here.
**a) It is Yuji's dream.**
You want to tell me somebody as kind and compassionate as Yuji has no place for his teacher in his dream of a happier tomorrow? Get out of here.
**b) It is a collective dreamlike state, a product of Sukuna's activation of the Merger despite the rules imposed on it.**
Again, nobody, not a single soul, has it in their heart to include Gojo in their dream? In any way other than criticizing him? It would go against all the care Yuji and Yuta have shown for him and be a genuinely awful characterization. It would show he was actually not loved at all, something we know isn't true.
**c) It is Gojo's dream.**
So, Gojo is dreaming of a world where his body is used as a weapon, his students don't care enough to even mention his name and life goes on as if he never existed? He can imagine himself being blamed but not having a place in his ideal future? Do you want me to kill myself?
I would really like to hear opinions or other options if you have any. Right now, this is all just sad.
*Cracks Knuckles*
First of all, I have read the dream theory and I believe it's possible but for now we take the last chapters at face value.
Yes, the lack of any mourning for Gojo (and Choso) is sad and a sour note at the end of the manga. We already had this lack of regard for his death during the Shinjuku fights. There I could understand though how the characters pushed all their feelings to the side once Gojo had been defeated.
They needed to act fast and steadfast, so we got most of their concern and other emotions while Gojo was still fighting.
Now though there is no excuse anymore. JJK had alwasy been a little loose when it came to the slower and reflective moments but Gege had the space the previous chapter to fill it with somehting meaningful. Instead we got an unnecessary explanation of the New Shadow Style school system that's just plain unimportant three chapters before the end.
So in that regard, yes, Gege fumbled it. Even in the driest part of Gojo's death, there still should've been an earth-shattering shake up of the status quo the same way his birth had changed the jujutsu world. But that was also lacking because chapter 270 basically erased all conflict in the story.
So what will happen now?
Your option 1) hate it, too :D
Option 2) nothing to add. Perfectly said how Gojo should've already been talked about instead of letting it go to the last chapter where he most likely won't get centre stage.
Now to Option 3/4) First, the last chapter will be longer than 19 pages. It was either double or tripple the length of a normal chapter so there is more time to flesh the last things out. Second, I have my own theory on how Yuta using Kenjaku's CT on Gojo's body and then getting ejected from it, might've have permanently revived Gojo.
I don't like Gojo being just alive though because that would be anticlimatic and detrimental to the high stakes and emotions that came before. It would be just one more thing in this super happy ending everyone got (except Choso). What could work though is Gojo's body being alive but in a vegetatitve state. Then it would be open ended how his story would go on.
Now the thing about the dream theory is: Yuji only imagines the good things. That's why characters where their death was ambiguous are all alive and only those who had been 100% confirmed dead are dead. With Yuji doing the dreaming, he would push negative feelings about death away and mourning is one such feeling and he had done exactly that previously as well.
If this theory comes true, Yuji would be mourning way more than just Gojo's death at the end. He would also be mourning the good end he envisioned for everyone. And that's sad but also... what I would prefer in contrast with this sugar cloud of a happy ending.

Need I say more?
I think the people, objectively, have spoken.
if I were to add in my opinion you’d see that I contributed a few fanfics to the mix
Main reason for my dislike of White Knight: I hate Jaune and Weiss is my favorite character, so I think she deserves better. I know some people won’t say this is a valid reason but Jaune originally and currently isn’t written very well. You basically have to give him his own episode to flush out his plot line, (like in the first season and every season afterwards where he’s important) and he’s not a main character so he takes up screen time. (They do the same with Oscar and the rest of JNPR Instead of doing a JNPR episode, they do each of them individually with sprinkles of plot in between) Honestly, a relationship between him and Weiss would be a bad idea. Case in point:
Volume 1 White-knight Moments:
Jaune unsuccessfully flirting with Weiss (+1)
Volume 2 White-knight Moments:
Jaune unsuccessfully flirting with Weiss (+1)
Volume 3 White-knight moments:
… PYRRHA! (-1)
Volume 4 White-knight moments:
… (No interaction; no points awarded or deducted)
Volume 5 White-knight moments:
Jaune does a common courtesy and saves Weiss’s life (does not count; he would react the same for anybody- ‘nO hE wOULdn’T’ shut up Victoria if any of your friends were dying you’d save their life) [+0.5]
Volume 6 White-knight moments:
…
Volume 7 White-knight moments:
…
Volume 8 White-knight moments:
…
Volume 9 White-knight moments:
Weiss admires Jaune over the fact that he’s mature, and supports him like a good friend after Ruby runs away. He reverts to his old form, and we never hear from them again. (+2)
Total score: 3.5/9 (trying to be generous, I really am)
Main reason for liking Whiterose: Enemies to friends to lovers is an adorable trope, and they get a lot of screen time together in the first few seasons. Also, Monty himself shipped them. While I won’t say Whiterose is objectively better than White Knight, I am going to say that when I include my own opinion, it is better. Weiss and Ruby’s relationship feels more like a slow burn than Yang and Blake’s. We get scenes that could be interpreted that way in almost every season since Volume one. Let me go through them, and to show how unfair this is, I’m not allowed to add more than 1.5 points:
Volume 1 Whiterose Moments
Ruby and Weiss are off to a rocky start, but slowly warm up to each other as time goes on, and they get closer. They have a mildly, could-be considered romantic moment where Weiss makes Ruby coffee so she can stay up to study. (+1)
Volume 2 Whiterose Moments
In the food fight, Ruby dramatically catches Weiss when she falls and pretends to cry over her. (Not really much, but it’s something). Ruby and Weiss consistently pair up to get things done throughout the season, especially when looking into information about Cinder. (+1)
Volume 3 Whiterose Moments:
Supporting each other when Winter gets there (that is Volume 3, right?), excellent teamwork in the first stage of the Amity Arena battle, and Weiss’s concern for Ruby when she disappears. (+1)
Volume 4 Whiterose Moments:
Thinks about each other, but otherwise, nothing. (No points awarded or deducted)
Volume 5 Whiterose Moments:
Weiss remember’s Ruby’s coffee taste. While this could be something any friend does, they spend time together, reflecting over beacon, and Weiss helps Ruby’s sister Yang through an implication that she’s doing it for team RWBY, but especially their eccentric fluffball of a leader. (+1.5)
Volume 6 Whiterose Moments:
Ruby saves Weiss on the train, Weiss saves Ruby in the battle against the mech, and they spend time together in the village with the grim. I should give two points here but I’m loyal to my word. (+1.5)
Volume 7 Whiterose Moments:
Ruby and Weiss sitting together during training, and Weiss supporting Ruby when the team splits up. (+0.5)
Volume 8 Whiterose Moments:
Supporting each other all throughout the volume by working together, and acting as teammates and partners. (+0.5)
Volume 9 Whiterose Moments:
Ruby supports Weiss after her being upset about the fall of Atlas. (Jaune’s interaction with Weiss, -1 point- would have been two, though)
6/9
In any scenario, Whiterose wins. Im sure other people could come up with reasons to disprove me, or say I’m biased (I am, this is in no way objective), but these are the things I saw with my own eight eyes because I own three pairs of glasses, and heard with my (admittedly failing) teenage ears.
I’m sure I’ll get flak for this from both sides of the shipping community, because admittedly, the RWBY fandom can be toxic (but it’s almost any fandom at that point) saying I either graded White Knight too harshly or I gave too many or too few points to Whiterose, and I also did all of this off the top of my head, so I apologize for my many mistakes. I have two last statements:
Rosegarden: 0/9
Oscar is 14 and Ruby is 17. If I, the same age as Oscar as of 2023, would not date Ruby at that time, it’s probably wrong. When it comes to relationships for younger people, it’s best to avoid age gaps larger than 2 years. It’s also best to avoid relationships altogether until you can at least go for a learner’s permit. I rest my case.
edit 3: alright, some people have corrected me on the age part, apparently he’s fifteen. I don’t hate Rosegarden, but something about Ozpin and Oscar being the same person makes me really uncomfortable (again, as someone who is younger). Thats the only reason I didn’t give it any rating- it just feels too close to, well… I don’t really have to say it. Especially when the whole point of things is that Oscar and Ozpin are becoming the same person.
Bumblebee: 8/9
It’s canon, bro. It does feel slightly forced at times, but they’re a strong couple who supports each other and helps each other through trauma. You go girls, lesbians all the way (insert lesbian pride flag here)
edit: got someone sending in a message about neither ever going to be canon. You’re right, but thank you so much for crushing a high schooler’s hopes and dreams. Have a nice day
edit 2: I prefer icerose over whiterose but I’ll get what I can take (canon ruby x ice Queendom Weiss). This is just an overall argument.

i know you probably hear this all the time but your blog is so on point on the horrendous ending of bleach and the endgame couples.
tbh i don't even care that ichigo and rukia didn't end up together... okay after all these years i still give a huge damn that these two aren't endgame. but seriously idc that much that they aren't together. but what i'm so pissed is who ichigo ended up with! be so fr! orihime and ichigo... i could and would right an essay on how they are so incompatible. i would've prefered if he ended up with tatsuki or even some rando. he waited until they were married for him to say her first name... like i get that he wants to be respectable and they weren't that close but ichigo barely knew rukia for a week and he was already down bad for rukia. i still believe to this day that ichigo doesn't look at orihime the same way he looks at rukia. actually he SETTLED for orihime since rukia was already locked down with renji ‼️i will die on this heal. and also the ichihime shippers are scraping for their ship moments while we, ichiruki stans, are eating so well with unlimited supply of ichiruki moments lmao
I would've been fine with the ending simply having Ichigo & Rukia standing next to each other happily (maybe a little too close?) as they look over Soul Society. Leaving the possibilities there. Narratively, such an ending would've made sense. I don't think even non-shippers would have batted an eye. No typical "timeskip married with kids" ending. It didn't make sense for it to end that way.
Even if I was a non-shipper, Ichigo ending up with Orihime goes against the narrative & is one of the major issues with the ending, since there was never an inkling of chemistry between them. No special moments. No interest nor special thought from Ichigo towards her. I literally never thought IH would have a chance; it seemed that unlikely 💀. I never doubted an IchiRuki victory (even if they wouldn't outright get together, like I said, at least that it'd be implied that they will in the future). Most of the shipping fandom thought the same or similarly, I believe... Most ppl shipped or could see IR happening... Kub0 had developed it enough to have most of us thinking this way...
IR had the potential to be the best-written M/F canon ship in a battle shounen & yet... 💨
I don't believe for a second that Kub0 had "always" intended for IH/RR endgames. To this day, he hasn't said anything meaningful about either pairing. He did absolutely nothing to imply them throughout the story. He put no effort into them. At every opportunity, he would always make it about IchiRuki...
Dudebros & IH's fail to see that IH/RR as endgame makes no narrative sense. If I was an IH/RR shipper, I'd be upset with how Kub0 handled them. They have no development, no official content, no merch, no proper validation from Kub0... He still can't even bring himself to give them a family color spread 🫢. Saddest endgame ships in a battle shounen...
About Ichigo finally saying Ori's name in the last chapter, there's a funny post on that here. 🤭
And yeah, Ichigo definitely settled for her, cuz the fact he waited until Rukia was unavailable will always be laughable... He tried dating Ori once then broke up for a while then tried again... wow, he was really "in love" with her from the start, huh? He was just putting off the inevitable cuz he had to seek unhappiness in order to stop Ywach from returning at his happiest moment... 🤷♀️

Jareth x Sarah - How It's Worse Than the Age Gap.
Now, from what I can tell, no sane person in the Tumblr Labyrinth fandom ships Jareth x Sarah. Most people who do ship it are either insanely out of the loop, or are middle-aged women who think David Bowie is hot (who could blame them.) It's not something I see that's a problem often. Because as we all grew older, we gained this thing called hindsight. And we were able to realize that, hey, maybe an immortal fae king chasing after a 16-year-old girl is... a bit creepy! This is completely valid, and I agree!
But I often think about how it's a common experience to only be hit with that realization when entering adulthood or teenage years. Why didn't we realize it sooner? And I think I have the answer.
It was about Sarah's desire for Jareth. Not Jareth's desire for Sarah. And it always has been.
Which is why people still actively pushing the ship is not only weird, but it completely negates the entire purpose of Sarah going into Jareth's labyrinth to find her baby brother! And erases all of the character growth she endured!
Now, in order to explain this, we need to take a more allegorical approach to "Labyrinth" as a whole. More specifically, "Labyrinth" as an allegory for growing up, Sarah's transition from girlhood to womanhood. Of course, many people have pointed out the allegories within the film, but we really need to dig in deep here.
"Labyrinth" is a coming-of-age film for Sarah (and, arguably, Jareth, but this isn't about him), she starts the movie as a spoiled, unlikable brat who has to leave behind her selfishness to save someone she loves. She loves all these little insignificant things at the beginning of the film, perhaps more than her brother from an audience's perspective! One look around her bedroom shows that, despite her being a teenage girl, she's stuck in her childhood.
When she wishes Toby away, she has to leave that behind. Because the labyrinth is an unforgiving place and nothing is fair, and Sarah is used to getting what she wants. Who's the person standing most in her way? Jareth. He's older, he's sexy, he's dangerous, he's charming, and he looks like the rockstars Sarah loves. He even looks like the man her mother seems to have run off with, based on the photos in her room! (I have some theories about him too but no matter.) All these factors lead to Sarah being attracted to Jareth. Because, well, what nerdy teenage girl wouldn't be!
Except, Jareth's entire purpose is to keep Sarah from reaching her goal, getting her brother back. His purpose is to, in essence, allow her to give into what she wants, to remain a kid forever. To play with her toys and costumes and "forget about the baby", if you will. At the end of the film, he practically asks for her entire livelihood and says he's asking for little because he's done so much to keep her happy. And while that may be true, he has done a lot, happiness isn't what she needs to grow or what she needs to get her brother back, so she rejects him.
Jareth is the physical embodiment of Sarah's dreams, and that is intentional! Again, going back to the allegory sense, I believe that Jareth is representative of that urge to remain young. Which is why Sarah's rejection of his advances is so crucial, and why her attraction to him is important to her character's growth.
By rejecting Jareth, Sarah is allowing herself to grow up, because she's rejecting her childish, selfish, stubborn ways.
Feeling drawn to Jareth shows Sarah being drawn to the simplicity of childhood. Yet she's growing up against her will, because it's something we all go through, and perhaps this could be represented in Toby being taken by the goblins. And when she says that Jareth has no power over her, that's when she comes to terms with growing up and becoming a woman. It's something we all do. Her past has no power over her.
And with Jareth representative of these things, it dampens how weird that age gap feels. It never focuses on Jareth's attraction to Sarah, because the character growth he experienced would have happened whether or not he loved her romantically, and he objectively is not the protagonist, we aren't supposed to like him. But if Sarah had no feelings for Jareth, she might not have ever changed. And she is also the protagonist, she's supposed to be somewhat likable by the end of the film. By not paying much attention to the adult's attraction to the minor, "Labyrinth" deals with a situation such as this one... very well, in my opinion. Even if maybe the adult never should've reciprocated in the first place.
...All of this is why I find it more weird than others when I see ship content of these two, I think, even with Sarah aged up as an adult. By creating a universe where Sarah never went after Toby or stayed with Jareth, one is... practically killing all her growth throughout the movie. Allowing her to remain selfish and ignorant. Which would be letting Jareth "win" in a sense. Hence why Jareth x Sarah is worse than just the age gap.

LO RANT:
Because why not? I just don’t understand the way that fans think, on one hand we can’t associate or even compare Lore Olympus to the myths because they’ll say “well it’s her retelling she doesn’t have to do things exactly alike” but on the other hand when you’re talking about the story by itself they’ll then try to counter whatever argument against Lore Olympus by saying “this is what they did in the myths!! why are you guys mad at greek mythology??” so which one is it because it’s giving me a headache. I get so tired of seeing the exact same argument from fans it’s so redundant and I mean that in the nicest way possible, I’m sure a lot of you are great people but the things y’all say and do for this comic is insane.
Rachel is adding yet another sex scene and people are rightfully angry. We’re in the climax where the world is basically in an apocalyptic state and the gods are all in danger of having no mortals to worship them and give them any purpose and it’s all because of Persephone, no one is thinking “oh yeah this is the perfect time for intimacy” and if you wanted to give fan service to those who are craving it you should’ve did it in a more calmer setting?? No one is threatening Rachel and telling her that she needs to add these ridiculously high stakes to her comic which prevents her from smoothly writing NSFW of the main couple, she’s literally doing this herself which is one of the reasons why it gets so annoying whenever fans get mad at people for being upset or disappointed. She’s doing this to herself, am I saying harass the woman or cyber bully her? No but that’s not what a lot of these people are doing, in every single webtoon especially one as big as Lore Olympus you’re going to have people who view your content differently or disagree with the way you’ve written things. I’m not trying to encourage the idea of changing your entire story to bend to those people but a large majority of your fandom are starting to have the exact same complaints and it’s clear that your plots are not being fleshed out at all, these people are just asking (no, begging really) for a cohesive story not a masterpiece.
Which brings me to my next point, all of the criticisms and explanations many critics have been sharing are entirely valid. You cannot put a sex scene as a replacement to storytelling, it just never works since it adds virtually nothing to what’s happening. Especially right now when, like I said before, Rachel is starting to spiral the plot into chaos (I’m not being insulting by saying this it’s literally chaos it seems like all of the characters are in trouble) and introducing or welcoming back a lot of intriguing plot stories and characters that many people are excited to see. To make an odd and unnecessary shift to romance in the middle of absolute destruction is crazy, especially when none of it is earned. I’ve said this in my later rants but I’ll say it again because it’s true, the romance between Hades and Persephone has no stakes and it never will it seems since Rachel doesn’t even allow stuff like that to happen. Nothing about their romance keeps you straddled on for the ride or leaves you at the edge of your seat which is why so many people are bored with their dynamic if there even is one to begin with. Slow burns and other romances are all about the payoff that’s what everyone’s here to see, after chapters on chapters of wondering if their love will brave the dangers around them and between them we finally get our question solved with appropriate intimacy.
Lore Olympus as a whole rarely wants to develop actual relationships in real time, it only skips to “the good bits” while completely ignoring the fact that the entire bonding experience between your ships and your fans rely heavily on us actually witnessing their chemistry/bond and being shown why they should be together, not being told by forces outside of the relationship.
All in all the potential sex scene is just terrible timing on Rachel’s part and it should’ve been done while literally nothing was happening to avoid all of the backlash that it’s getting now.

Law x OC || 2.4k chapter || 20.4k total
you can read the rest here :)
notes: I had a lot of fun with this chapter! I hope you all enjoy it too :) the story is outlined and it's looking like it'll probably end up in the neighborhood of 30 chapters, ~60k words.
CW: more violence from Law, mentions of vomit, descriptions of injuries || I'm going to be so real, I didn't want to write about medical treatment so I did a scene skip to move past it. Let Trafalgar Law work in peace and quiet, you know. It's none of my business.
CH 9
Law watches the sonar intently, fingers tight around his sheathed sword.
“Ship ahead!” Penguin calls from his careful monitoring of the screens.
Law squints at the display, eyes drawn to the ping of movement cresting onto the edge of the map. Finally. Law’s muscles ache from being clenched so tight all these hours they’ve spent giving chase. The feeling of inaction gripping onto his jaw, pressing his teeth hard against each other.
The Polar Tang is steadily gaining on the other ship. “Captain,” Bepo calls at the helm, studying the readouts. “It looks like they’re altering their course.”
He confirms his suspicions with his navigator. “Bepo, what’s their new heading?”
“Their new course appears to be heading back towards Ashita Island.”
Law knew that would be the answer. Can feel it in every other beat of his heart. Too late. Thump. She’s dead. Thump. You failed again. Thump. “They’ve found her.”
“Oh no, oh no,” Bepo frets, worried because Law is worried, given he barely met Cerulean before.
“Intercept them,” Law orders. “Wait until we’re drawing portside to surface. I want them caught off guard.” I want their ship ripped apart and flooded to the bottom of the ocean. Law doesn’t say that desire aloud. He long ago stopped voicing his most violent thoughts. Discovered there was no need, no point. Not when you have devil fruit powers that can surgically remove people from parts of their body. What were verbal threats to that? Law knows his crew will fight if he says to, but he’d rather avoid any unnecessary bloodshed.
He addresses the crew. “I’ll go above and handle this. Everyone else stay inside. I don’t plan to turn this into a fight.”
Clione folds his arms over his chest. “And what if they do intend to turn whatever this is into a fight?” Uni and Ikkaku nod in agreement.
“Then it will be a short one. For them.” Law knows his crew deserves more of an explanation. Can see their disgruntlement in the rigid lines of Clione’s arms. The Heart Pirates didn't hand out favors or perform special rescues. Law understands why his crew is confused and questioning his actions. He just doesn’t know what to tell them. Or, rather, what to tell them that doesn’t sound as if he’s completely diverged from his typical modus operandi of calm, calculating deduction.
He feels concerningly uncalm and uncalculating right now. Unable to deduce a rationale to explain his behavior to his crew other than “because I want to,” which even to Law’s own ears rings hollow. The Heart Pirates sailed for the New World, like so many others seeking glory and adventure. It was easy to validate actions in the course of this goal. But what Law is doing now? Cerulean Blake isn’t going to help them reach the New World. She’s a detour. Going after a pirate crew to help her is a major detour. Trafalgar Law doesn’t do detours. His crew knows this.
So Law says nothing. Walks out of the room, heading for a path less traveled- by him at least.
***
The shouts of alarm ringing out signal that Law’s intention to shock the pirates has been achieved. Good. He walks with long, measured strides to the center of the Polar Tang’s deck, water still draining over the sides. “Who’s the captain?” He raises his voice just enough to get their attention.
A tall, slim man with a beard steps forward. “I am. Who’s asking?”
Law adopts a bored tone. “Are you asking because you really don’t know or because you think it will give you some measure of an upperhand?”
A flash of anger crosses the pirate captain’s face. “What does the infamous Trafalgar Law want with us?” Contempt drips from the man’s words, yet his hands do not reach for his sword, they fold across his chest defensively. Trafalgar Law knows he’s already won. This confrontation will end with reluctant cooperation or a swift death for this captain.
“With you, I want nothing.” He blinks slowly, condescendingly at the pirate. “You have a stowaway.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Is ignorance a strategy for you or simply unavoidable?”
The captain’s mustache quivers as his mouth twists in rage, still he doesn’t rise to Law’s bait. Bait that Law is casting much more aggressively than is probably necessary. The rash part of him wants to hook something on his line just so he has a reason to flay it. He forces himself to reel in his ire. A diplomatic solution is the preferable outcome- one that won’t get his crew or Cerulean caught in the crossfire. Law tires again. Opting for formality designed to intimidate. To give these pirates time to become truly afraid, to recognize that coming between Trafalgar Law and what he seeks is a death sentence.
“I have information that a wanted pirate boarded your ship. I’m sure you’ve seen the bounty. That’s my interest.”
The captain scowls. “So you want us to hand over the reward to you, instead of keeping it for ourselves? Why would we do that?”
Law taps a finger on his sword resting against his shoulder. “No. I want you to hand over the stowaway and consider your reward sailing away from here with your lives.”
The captain goes still. “And if we refuse?”
“It’s your choice if you want no reward,” Law says mildly.
For a beat, Law thinks they’ll easily comply. Then the captain’s mouth sets in a thin line and now his hand reaches for his sword. Mistake.
Law languidly lifts a finger. A hook ready to sink into flesh. “Room.” His power swells out, enveloping the pirates. He makes quick work of relieving his catch of its head. Many heads, in fact. Quite a few appendages too. He boards the ship, tuning out the cacophony of frightened, furious shouts. He descends to the lower decks, certain that Cerulean would have been thrown in the brig upon discovery. At least he knows she’s alive, based on the captain’s anger at having the promise of berry snatched from him.
He hits the lowest deck and a wave of stale, sour air swirls up, filling his nose. It’s sparsely lit down here, but Law can see a row of iron-barred cells tucked along the backside of the ship, opposite the stairs. As he paces closer, a form huddled on the floor of one cell takes shape.
Her clothes are a bloody, disheveled mess. The contents of her stomach are heaved upon the floor beside her. Law sees red. Red like the apples she must’ve hidden with. Red like the fire that fills Law’s nightmares. These pirates did this to her. They would deserve the gutting he could give them. Law brings his sword down swiftly against the padlock, bursting it open. He swings the cell door wide and steps inside. Cerulean doesn’t stir. His breath hitches as he bends down, fearful that she’s already succumbed to her wounds. He lays two fingers against the soft skin of her neck. A faint, fluttering pulse. She’s alive. Leaning in closer, he can just make out the nearly imperceptible shallow rise and fall of her chest.
His medical training kicks into gear. Without knowing what happened to her, what’s wrong, it’s dangerous to unnecessarily move her. But with this disgusting prison cell below and a band of disembodied pirates above, they can hardly stay here. He brushes tangled and blood-matted curls out of her eyes. A gash across her temple is revealed. Her bottom lip is split open and still oozing. The dark purple of bruising already colors under her eyes. She feels feverish beneath his palm. She needs urgent medical care and he can’t do that here.
He swallows hard. “Cerulean?” He says quietly, in an attempt to rouse her. She doesn’t respond. As gently as the Surgeon of Death can, he loops her arm across his shoulders, scooping his forearms under her knees and back as he lifts her against him. She moans in pain, burying her face against his chest, but doesn’t wake up. “I know. I’m sorry. I should’ve gotten here sooner.” He keeps his footfalls as steady as he can when he ascends back to the upper deck.
He considers outright killing the pirates, but doesn’t want to delay Cerulean’s medical care. Cutting out that many hearts takes time. Another idea comes to him, like a shark gliding through water, scenting blood. He releases his hold, tosses the crew back their bodies. They collapse to the ground in exhausted heaps. Law’s powers will do that to a person. As for the captain- Law carves out a single organ, tosses it into the sea. Let these pirates be a message. How worth it, was one bounty, when the price was your heart?
Looking down at Cerulean’s face scrunched with pain, Law experiences a horrible flickering moment of uncertainty. Was he the one setting the price, or paying it?
***
Bepo fusses nervously over Cerulean, trailing Law as he carries her to the medical bay. “Oh dear, what did they do to her?” Law doesn’t respond, just picks up his pace.
“Set a course away from here, away from Asihta Island. Doesn’t matter where.” Law tells Bepo before stepping over the threshold into the medical suite. Bepo hurries off to fulfill Law’s order. Slowly, Law lays Cerulean down on a metal examination table, doing what he can not to further hurt her. First things first, he needs to determine how bad her head wound is. He felt the damp blood leaking onto his shoulder while he’d carried her. Can see the dampness darkening the curls at the back of her neck.
Trafalgar Law takes a deep, steadying breath. Forging his quiet fury into a razor-edged focus. He can be angry for Cerulean later, if she’ll have it. Right now, he needs to ensure she lives long enough to decide if she’s obliged or offended by his help.
***
With the aid of his devil fruit powers and medical training, Cerulean’s condition is stabilized. He found a nasty wound on the back of her head- she must’ve taken a blow from behind. She has several fractured ribs, broken fingers on one hand, internal bleeding, another gash requiring stitches at her temple. And more bruising than he could believe. Was one woman, armed with nothing but a shipment of apples, really a threat worth this act of violence? Law is suddenly, murderously happy he left those pirates alive. Let them be a message, indeed. You want Cerulean Blake, you’ll have to go through Trafalgar Law. Maybe his name would finally be good for something. Provided he can convince Cerulean to accept his help this time. To confide in him who the hell these Fang Pirates are and what her master plan is for dealing with them.
He drags a chair to her bedside, dropping heavily onto the seat. Elbows propped on knees, fingers clasped together, his chin resting on top. He watches Cerulean sleep. Wonders if she'll demand to be dropped off somewhere the second she wakes up. Carefully avoids contemplating why it's so important to him to get her to stay.
***
At some point Law dozes off, legs stretched in front of him, back slumped against the chair. He realizes this when a shifting of blankets and a low groan rouses him. He swipes a hand down his face, wiping away the sleep.
“Cerulean?”
She blinks at him through bleary eyes. “Ah, so this is how it’s going to be.”
Law lifts an eyebrow at her, unsure what she means.
“It would seem that hell likes to listen in while you die. Dirty eavesdroppers!” She raises her voice, directing the last bit at the floor. Grimacing at her own volume.
Law’s concern for her head injury intensifies. “What are you talking about?”
“Well, I’m assuming I’m dead and this is my own personal hell-” Law casts his eyes up in mild exasperation. “Because I was thinking about you right before I died and here you are.”
“You were thinking about me?” Law asks quietly. Unwilling to name the emotion clopping its way through his chest, treacherously akin to hope.
She glares at him. “Yes. About that judgey eyebrow of yours. And how hilariously ironic it was that the last offer of help I’d refused was from a doctor of all people. Which I very obviously desperately needed because of, you know, the dying. The universe hates me,” she finishes dramatically.
Amazing, Trafalgar Law thinks, that even recently hovering at death’s door, she manages to cast her aspersions upon the world with such gusto. Admirable from a woman who mere hours ago was all but bleeding out on his operating table. Confirmation that her stubbornness might just get her killed.
Law knows this conversation should wait for her to heal, but he can't help the accusations climbing up his throat.
“What were you thinking? Hiding in cargo on a pirate ship?”
“Well I didn't know it was a pirate ship at the time.” She says indignantly. “It’s not as if I planned exclusively for pirate-destined crates.”
“That's because your plan was basically non-existent.”
“My plan wasn't that bad!”
“You ended up on pirate ships twice.” He pauses thoughtfully. “I suppose three times, if you count mine again.”
“Well, maybe that's not what I'm measuring success by!” She scoffs.
Law deadpans. “Seems tangentially related to the goal of staying alive. Which you do have, don’t you?”
“Ha! I did stay alive.” She tosses her head against the pillow, clearly proud of this. “And you're missing an important detail. I successfully snuck onto two pirate ships!” She waggles her index and middle fingers in his face. “Once I work out the kinks in the plan, I've got a new, free, foolproof travel method.” She beams at him. It doesn’t reach her eyes though, rimmed red and squinted with pain.
“You can't be serious.”
“Like a poison.”
Law runs a hand through his hair. “Rue, you cannot do that again. It's too dangerous.”
The playful shade coloring her smile slips away, her breath goes shallow. Law realizes with a start that this is the first time he’s referred to her as “Rue,” not more formally as “Cerulean.” Perhaps she dislikes this? But no, she told him he could call her that when they met. Law isn’t entirely sure why he hadn’t, why it feels so vulnerable and revealing now.
He clears his throat, standing. “You need to rest. I was only able to do so much, your body still needs time to recover.” He heads to the door, but her soft voice makes him pause on the threshold.
“Thank you, Trafalgar Law.”
He knows what the words must cost her. Knows a debt weighs you down like stones in your pocket. He looks back at her, nods once and leaves.

Literally watched all of S2 last night and I dont feel like doing individual reactions sooo
All of S1:E26 was me pointing at gay people on my screen and going "hey thats from the little dark age amv"
The orion pax arc is still literally so funny. Later episodes show that there was NO REASON to keep optimus/orion alive bc soundwave and THE FUCKING SHIP can also decode the locations of the mcguffins, megatron literally couldve won the war here and there what the hell. it took meg all of 0.5 seconds after he heard his former boytoy utter his name to try and find excuses to keep him around. Also making him call you "my lord"? I Know What You Are.
And apparently optimus/orion stayed on the nemesis for two months which is crazy to me bc megatron cannot improvise to save his fucking life what do you MEAN warlord ratchet??? YOU HAVE ULTRA MAGNUS IN YOUR FILES
It was funny tho bc meg heard ratchet say "I am your doctor of doom" and thought Hey thats pretty good and then make a callback to that when telling optimus/orion ratchet is evil incarnate
Extra hilarious to me that it partially ended bc starscream went to the nemesis to raid the fridge. [Megatron voice] this plane does nothing but ruin my life
The episodes where they send arcee and jin kazama to cybertron was pretty cool i did like the vibe it really felt alien ruins-like
You can tell the experience fucked optimus a little bc first episode after the season opening and peepaw is ready to consider warcrimes
Next was the "bumblebee gets his kidney stolen" arc and I have nothing to say other than it was funny when of course it ends in starscream getting his kidney stolen
Ok I do have some stuff to say actually, we trash on the cons a lot bc theyre disloyal assholes, but when a bot is told to stay at the base for valid reasons, they bitch and moan and end up disobeying anyway and never get punished severely by peepaw optimus bc them not following orders ALWAYS works in their favor
Megatron goes "Nu-uh-uh!" in S2:E5
Im always just so happy when meg is on screen ngl he is such a massive asshole bastard🩶
Dreadwing's cool I like how he just has a fucking flip phone to dramatically blow shit up
Everytime I see wheeljack im like oh god if the show has been made just a few years later he wouldve been drift
I FORGOT HOW QUICKLY BREAKDOWN DIED fanon will really build a castle out of 4 twigs huh. and the castle sucks ass anyway
Airachnid slayed and she was gone too soon
They lowballed megatron so hard in the episode where he was struggling against one (1) insecticon BUT. he was sexy in this ep. To me. Not to optimus anymore😔
Nemesis prime was well-introduced in the show but this is hysterical to me that THIS is the show that has the "evil double of optimus" concept
Every episode with starscream after he loses his cog is excellent and you have no idea how much it pains me to admit that
S2:E10-E11 is just megatron and the gang having the weirdest fucking day and it might be my fav eps. I think I just love watching the cons do shit. Megatron killed starscream four times, fought an army of bugs and then gave drugs to his ship
Knockout and megatron's banter is surprisingly always very entertaining. I think meg just like bouncing off of a little jester
The four relics episode are kinda whatever BUT they did gave us the one (1) soundwave focused episode and whaddayaknow he was extremely sexy and competent and it was funny to see him being treated like megatron's special boy&bird
Also bulkhead continue to have plot armor thicker than the apex armor like come on in every single one of his episodes he comes just this close to death
SHOOOOOOOOOCKWAAAAAAAAAVE
I was waiting to see smokescreen's episodes before judging but now that I did I can safely say *drops to my knees sobbing* IT SHOULD BEEN HOT RODDDDDDDDD
At least his friendship with jin kazama was cute, like that "green for go" was cute
Silas ditching his highly competent human crew to sucker up to megatron really felt like they had no idea what to do with his character anymore bc what??? Like okay you remove a third faction to focus more on the main ones but still
I fucking love S2:E20 bc 1) just throw some more mystical stuff at optimus like go full arthurian stories now, 2) lots of megatron action and 3) "drop the mountain on him"
I know its likely an animation lighting thing and optimus simply could not be based like that in the first place but conceptually it is absolutely hysterical to me that after slicing effortlessly a mountain in half, making megatron look like THIS
Optimus then look straight up at the camera and fucking winks at him
And then immediately after that, megatron going "decepticons, we are so fucked."
And THEN next episode is literally "MEGATRON YOU CRAZY BITCH" like come dreadwing lets desecrate a demigod's tomb
He fucking sucks at naming stuff tho bc dark star saber??? Come on man
The rest of the omega keys episodes are also whatever but fucking hell if the whole Peter Cullen speaking in slow motion and Steve Blum mimicking that didnt get to me hard
The last starscream episode tho? Screamer cringe compilation while hes having the worst job interview of his life, of course i loved it
MEGATRON NOOO YOU KILLED THE WRONG PLANE
But again, hilarious that for the season finale megatron went "alright guys no more fucking around" and they basically won. That one moment where meg, screamer, KO all laughing maniacally together with soundwave just shaking in silent laughter with them was really funny. Only shocky is missing for the decepticon high command reunion
I really liked the moment where raf, miko and jin kazama were like "the autobots are ready to sacrifice their life for our planet, im ready to do the same for theirs" idk thats really brave and it struck me
Optimus chopping megatron's arm was really fucking cold
SILVER ERADICONSSSSSS
They blew up the autobot base like the white house in shadow the hedgehog
Overall, a lot of my favorite episodes are in this season so👍 #megatronsweep

Hi! I'd like to hear your opinion about this:
https://www.tumblr.com/burst-of-iridescent/742859432096120832/of-course-zuko-would-have-taken-the-lightning-for?source=share
Let's go through this piece by piece, because there's good, mixed, and bad points all mixed up with each other.
"Katara needed to be there"
100% true. After all, Nickelodeon doesn't want to traumatize the 7-year-olds by making them get attached to Zuko, see him redeem himself, be told he will be Fire Lord - only for the boy to die horribly. They absolutely needed a character to save him, and as the healer of the team Katara was the logical choice.
"Katara needed to be there for the SACRIFICE to make sense. Imagine if it was SOKKA there - ridiculous, right?"
Aaaand there is the bullshit. Sokka could not replace her on that moment because he is the person in the Gaang Zuko has the least meaningful connection with. But Aang and Toph? Either of them could have easily fit the role in a different circumstance and the only problem would be there was no one to come to the rescue when it was time to shout "MEDIC!"
"She has to heal the wound at the core of her character — the agony and helplessness of being unable to protect someone she loved from a firebender — by successfully saving another person she cares about from the narrative embodiment of fire nation aggression and destruction"
*casually ignores that she already did that for Aang in book 2, full on bringing him back from the dead*
"the agni kai isn’t zuko and [insert companion here] alone, it's ALSO about Azula"
The fuck you mean ALSO? The larger battle on that moment might be between Zuko + Katara against Azula, but the agni kai itself is between just the Fire Siblings. We literally hear Azula say "Just you and me, brother. The showdown that was always meant to be."
Much like the bit with Katara healing Zuko is about their dynamic, the main battle so to speak is about Zuko's dynamic with Azula. About them being siblings who ended up in opposing sides of a war after being life-long rivals because of their abusive father. Can we not treat this epic, meaningful, tragic moment that has been foreshadowed since the first episode of book 2 as an after-thought just for the sake of a ship? Especially since said ship will be thrown a bone moments later?
"Katara is the one person connected to both Zuko and Azula"
Katara has a connection with Zuko, yes, they are friends. And she has lots of parallels with Azula, enough that I can understand the claim that they are narrative foils.
But they have ZERO true meaningful connection. They never talked. They were never told anything that would make them think they have anything in common. Azula is just another dangerous foe to Katara, Katara is just another peasant that means nothing to Azula.
Parallels and one fight before it doesn't put that dynamic (or rather, the lack there of) on the same level of Zuko and Katara's enemies-to-friends dynamic, and it sure as fuck doesn't put it anywhere near the complex mess that is Zuko and Azula's relationship.
"Katara is the only one who touches his scar, and she and Zuko saw each other's darkest moments"
1 - Mai was nuzzling that scar all the time, in actual intimate personal moments. Katara touched it to try to heal it. A meaningful act of kindness, sure, but it's still just a doctor trying to help someone, not physical affection.
2 - She did NOT see Zuko's darkest moments, that was Iroh, she didn't even see the worst of him acting like a dick. As for Zuko, he encouraged Katara to embrace violence because that's what he was taught his entire life, and it led to her doing something she felt was fully against her true vallues and who she was as a person.
"The scene is easy to romanticize"
Yup, big dramatic moments tend to be like that. And if Zutarians weren't constantly insisting that is the ONLY valid interpretation of the scene, no one (except the typical "only canon/what the writers says is valid" people every fandom has) would complain about shippers watching the scene with romance goggles on.

I saw your post and got super worried because I assumed it was the artist I've loved since they started here on tumblr. So, I went on the dreaded 🐦 app and low & behold, stan culture ruins things once again! Kinda glad I wasn't around during the heyday of GOT because it must've been absolutely insufferable! 😖😖😖
Fandom during GOT's prime must have been insane already, but I do think it's gotten worse in recent years. There used to be the unspoken rule of "if you've got nothing nice to say don't say anything at all" that appears to have completely vanished from fandom spaces. Cuz if I see a post with an opinion I don't like/agree with, or fanart of a character I don't care for, or fic of a ship that I dislike, I'm not gonna leap down OP's throat about it. I'm just gonna scroll, maybe vague post about it on another app (I've vague posted about some dumb Twitter opinions on here on occasion), and then move on. But this idea that, if someone doesn't like the same things you like, they're not only morally reprehensible but personally committing some kind of wrong against you specifically is insane. It's more than that trend I've mentioned about trying to equate fandom with morality, it is, as I said in the tags of that post, something that reeks of insecurity. There's a bunch of people in varying fandom spaces that feel that their own opinions simply must be validated, because their opinions are correct, but it's not enough for them to think it, other people need to think it too.
And it's an issue that has dominated Team Black in HOTD specifically. Cuz I'm not seeing it from Rhaenicents, from Greens, even from show casuals. It's diehard Team Black and primarily TB book purists at that who find Rhaenicent fanart (especially ones that take Emma D'Arcy's actual appearance into account), or Team Green posts, or even regular posts expressing any sort of appreciation for Team Green actors or sympathy for some of the characters (especially Alicent or Helaena) and just lose their minds. Insult the poster or the artist, deride actor's appearances, weaponize actual political language to support their point despite no real tangible thread of connection ('killing Lucerys is basically femicide' omegas aren't a real thing and killing that boring ass boy is not, in fact, femicide, there are actual femicides happening in the real world right now, focus on those), and get hopping mad at the fact that these varied posts exist. It's greed to an almost biblical proportion tbf, it's not enough that most show casuals agree with their opinions, that most people with both book and show knowledge are on their side, that the narrative of the show supports their views (in the Jaehaera art thing specifically, that canon dictates she's gonna die and that Daenaera and Aegon are gonna be married and have a reasonably happy married life). Everyone needs to be on their side, nobody had better dare have opposing views to their's. And if those opposing views exist, well then those people have earned all the nastiness that's gonna get thrown their way for having those opposing views.
Like, you're that insecure? You need everyone to agree with you in order to hold fandom opinions? You can't just like something for your own reasons and ignore people who don't agree? Other people, people who don't even know you exist, hold that much power over you? Team Black, are you guys really so pathetically weak?
Anyway, fuck people who tag butch Rhaenicent art with snippy "Daemicent!!!" quote tweets, fuck people running TG fanartists off of social media because you can't handle drawings, fuck people going up to actors and saying vile shit to them based on their characters, fuck everyone who tries to be an asshole about Olivia's looks or TGC's looks or Phia's looks, and fuck stan culture. Everyone's who's so deranged about their fictional opinions that they act nasty to real human beings should simply find the nearest noose and hang themselves by the neck until dead, the world will be an infinitely better place and no one will miss them.
#personal#answered#anonymous#house of the dragon#hotd fandom#like i don't need other people to validate my like for characters#someone posting jaehaera art and the replies being all 'yeah team jaehaera' doesn't stop me like daenaera#hell someone going 'fuck daenaera' doesn't stop me from liking daenaera#because i have some form of integrity and like things based on my own internality and not based on what's popular#and what other people agree with so i can be in the majority#also the people being rude about fanarts? pick up a pencil then let me see what your talentless ass will attempt#otherwise be silent#and posting about actor's looks? post the selfie bitch show me what you look like#cuz if you're gonna come for real people you better have a golden ratio ass face#but most of y'all probably ugly and projecting otherwise you'd put faces and names to your words#but yeah fandom culture has gotten Bad especially wrt asoiaf stuff

Sure. Coz forcing him to make lunch after he woke from a nap is equal to him being too tired to stand and still shooting bcs they have contracts. Dumbasses 🙄
Assuming that you are a jikooker, I know you don't really see jungkook as anything but a jimin obsessed alpha protector who has no personality outside of him being in love with jimin. I know y'all don't give a shit about jungkook. And it shows. He was visibly exhausted during that time. He had his own album to promote. To work on. And he had to squeeze in the schedule of that show in between. And don't give the he could've said no argument. He is an idol still under that company's contract. Doing a live without asking for permission and refusing to shoot for a show are too different to even compare.
Yes he looks happy in the show. Bcs they were shooting a show. It's not all organic. Do you really think he'll sit still sulking and they'll make an 8 episode series out of it? They know they have to entertain. That's the whole point of that show. It wasn't a "healing" trip. It was work.
And no one here even talked about jimin. He is in the same position as jungkook. He doesn't have much control over their schedules. We are mad at the company.
I always hear people say that all jikookers are actually pjms and people like you are proving it right. Our concern over jungkook made you raise your heckles and instead of giving a shit about his health, you started going on a jimin protection crusade. Pathetic ass breed 🙄
It is truly amazing that they came in here to argue against my post where I said one of the most insidious things this fandom had done is paint valid concern as anti behavior...by trying to paint valid concern as anti behavior. Yes, I noticed they were getting defensive about Jimin and their ship. Because that's what they took my concern for Jungkook as an attack against. When I specifically called out the company. And of course they didn't read the last part of my post (love that they told me to stop posting about this...on my Tumblr account): I absolutely do no trust their health and safety to that company. It's worrying. If anything questionable comes out during Are You Sure with them being sick or injured I'm going to be livid knowing they gave them no time to properly rest or heal before enlistment.
I said "their health" and "them" for a reason. 😀 The other point of my post, with examples that I guess anon didn't even bother to look at, was that Jungkook has pushed himself beyond his bodies limits. On multiple occasions. So we know he will do that, and smile through it. I included an example of him smiling for the cameras while in pain! I hope they did enjoy their time shooting this show, but that has absolutely nothing to do with my concern for his health during a packed schedule right before enlistment. Anon is so sure I would feel differently if it was Taekook. Here's the thing: I wouldn't! Kind of my thing being a Taekooker and BTS stan in general who does not give a flying fuck about being given "content". I don't need it. I definitely don't want it if it means monopolizing their already extremely limited time for rest.
I have not gotten an essay from these anons yet that wasn't fighting air. They're so insecure they're just constantly making up things to be mad about. They live in an alternate reality they've built for themselves, and they think we live there too. But it's like trying to answer to people from another planet. Devoid of all the context of everything I've actually said here.

Nothing against shuuneki/tsukikane as a ship but i have a pretty strong gripe with the argument about it being ‘literally canon’
from the perspective of Shuu and Shuu alone, you could say that shuuneki is canon (r we still allowed to call it shuuneki? That’s what I’ve always known it as, but i see most ppl nowadays call it tsukikane more??? ) because I wholeheartedly believe that Shuu loved Kaneki. Both romantically and in other ways. I’d need to hear very solid reasoning as to why anyone would think against this idea before i use the word ‘homophobic’ but anyways.
the argument that Kaneki was also into Shuu in that way, and that his opinion of Shuu ever extended beyond the graces of close friendship, is sort of where my issue with the ‘literally canon’ statement is.
I think it sort of ignores the development in Shuu’s character. How he goes from being very obsessive, co-dependent, limerent, (etc) over Kaneki, and the damage this causes him. I know and have seen that for a lot of Shuuneki fans that this limerence draws them to the ship, and i totally get that. I am drawn to Shuu because in part of that obsessiveness - cue obligatory mention of me projecting my BPD onto Shuu - and he’s been so much of a comfort for me because of that, in a way that has saved my life on multiple occasions. So I totally understand why people are drawn to the ship - the ship itself is nothing I have an issue with.
But I think that this idea that Shuuneki is canon misses the mark quite a bit. I think in a tldr of my thoughts on Kaneki’s feelings - Kaneki comes to genuinely care for Shuu, and I think his love of Shuu only extends to a platonic relationship. Maybe my opinion will change of that upon a re-read, though. I’ve seen it cited like years ago, that things like Kaneki thinking Shuu looked like a model, or that Kaneki’s initial nerves around Shuu are evidence of romantic or sexual feelings. I think this is kind of a null argument - Kaneki isn’t exactly a confident or outwardly extroverted person at that point in the manga, whereas Shuu is quite abrasive and loud. Kaneki has also been warned about Shuu, and was sort of set to get into the Ghoul Restaurant via Shuu from Itori - so him being nervous is definitely not evidence of inherent attraction. Kaneki thinking Shuu looks like a model too? I mean, it didn’t feel like a charged thought of his to me. This could maybe be an argument more for queerness in Kaneki - but I don’t know enough to speak on that. Both characters are nuanced so there’s a lot more I could say here - and by proxy more arguments against me, I suppose.
But my point is: i don’t believe Kaneki being nervous about Shuu is indicative of him being attracted to Shuu. I sort of think this argument kind of also damages Shuu’s arc in the whole story. Shuu’s growth, to me, hinges a lot on that he wants Kaneki - it is the inability to have this, the fact that this is denied to him, and the myriad reasons as to why this is, that leads to his self-destruction, rebirth and regrowth. Shuu’s coming to understand Kaneki as something more than he had initially thought - as something other than food - also comes into this, and I do believe that’s part of why he was so devastated. Like I said, I believe that Shuu loved Kaneki very passionately, and I won’t deny that he was attracted to him - but it is one-sided. (In canon, at least - idc what shippers are doing, have ur fun, this isn’t about that.)
idk if that makes any sense - im a mess mentally atm - but i hope my point is kind of clear? I think the ‘shuuneki canon’ argument is only really valid if you are viewing it as Shuu canonically is in love with Kaneki - I don’t see Kaneki as ever seeing him as more than friends.
