As someone who was homeschooled in Texas for 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th grade, I 100% agree with this. I never graduated, in fact, I never even did 12th grade. I'm technically a high school drop out, to no fault of my own.

Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 9th grade I was in a Christian private school and I hated it.

Texas is the most lenient state when it comes to homeschooling. Literally if asked, all a parent has to say is yeah they are homeschooled, yeah they passed their grade and it's all good. But no one even asks.

I didn't even realize I hadn't graduated high school until years later when my husband said I should really get my diploma from my parents. Found out my parents couldn't give me one because none of my stuff was regulated and I never even did 12th grade so I couldn't get a diploma. I found this out years later after I had already been married.

I felt like a failure. I felt like a liar. I was crushed because I had no idea. My little sister thankfully got her GED and went to college and graduated with a degree in English, my little brother is a senior and hopefully will get his GED too.

But being the oldest kid makes you the guinea pig. It took a while to not feel like I was stupid. Dealing with untreated ADHD, anxiety, and depression while in highschool made it impossible for me to understand stuff like math and science. I literally cried so many times, had yelling matches with the parents so many times because I just wasn't understanding it and it was frustrating to them, and I think my parents just gave up.

I was in my mid twenties when I found I was a high school drop out. At that point I felt like there was no point in getting my GED because so much time had passed and I never needed a diploma. If a job asks about education, you tell them you were homeschooled and that's enough for them because homeschooling has zero regulation in Texas.

I liked being homeschooled because I'm an introvert and not having to be around people was very nice. Not having to wake up early was nice. If there had been regulations and stuff my parents had to do in order for it to count, it would have been great for me. But because there's no regulations, it fucked me over.

In all honesty, I think my parents tried at first, but then my little sister also started being homeschooled, she's 6 years younger than me and my little brother is 16 years younger than me, and as I got older and subjects got harder, I think my parents just gave up because most of the stuff my mom didn't understand, she never even had to take advanced math because back then algebra was an elective and not a requirement.

Most parents are not qualified to be school teachers for their kids.

So yeah, I'm a homeschool kid and I want there to be regulation so other kids won't have to go through what I did.

homeschooling in the US needs to be regulated but this is one of those conversations that immediately gets crushed by extremist conservatives and even well-meaning liberals will pipe up to be like "well some homeschooling is good!" when that's absolutely not relevant. regulation will not change anything for the homeschooling families who are serious about their children's education. the people who need to be regulated are the fringe extremists

sometimes i think about how absolutely BANGER Gem's villain aesthetic was in Secret Life. Like, she's got this whole vibe of infection and disease around her and it slaps so hard. First you got the End portal stuff with her arm and eye when she goes Yellow (alongside the implication of her ripping out her own eye to use for the End Portal) and later you have her as Patient Zero for the boogeyman/zombie outbreak. And she kills just as indiscriminately as an epidemic would, including her own allies when they offer themselves to her. Hell, she kills Scott TWICE and technically kills Impulse twice too, once by her own hands and once when Bdubs kills him right in front of her to continue the spread of the curse.

And then you combine all this with the idea of her being a deer and it just gets better. Not only are deer prone to uncanny valley vibes, but they're also extremely susceptible to Chronic Wasting Disease, aka Zombie Deer Disease. Which is scary as shit, like all prion diseases. It literally eats away at the brain and leaves the animal a husk. And it's completely incurable, 100% fatal, and spreads easily (not to humans though, thank fuck.)

Now imagine this diseased horned prey creature hunting and killing whatever gets in its way while infections far beyond its ability to comprehend ravage its body and mind. And everything it kills comes back just as screwed up and terrifying. Very few can fight back against it, let alone slay it. No one is safe, the ones who survive either do so because they're Something Not Human (Grian the Watcher), Already Biologically Dead (ZOMBIECleo) or just got lucky and never got caught (Scott). However, there is one last piece of horror unaccounted for. The carrier, no matter how thin, no matter how much drool leaks from her mouth, no matter how erratic and unholy her behavior, is still aware. Still in control.

merlin told arthur his favorite color was the color of the sky during sunset when it shifted into a deep violet. arthur gets a tunic made in that exact shade. its the best thing merlin owns. arthur was hoping that would mean he’d wear it almost everyday but merlin almost never wears it. the only time he does wear it is when royals come to visit (which isn’t all that often). arthur “subtly” asks about it and merlin is like “it’s the best thing i own. i’m not gonna dirty it mucking out the stables or serving rowdy knights wine while they splatter food on it” and arthur is like “why not wear it when nobles come to visit? look at least a little presentable for them” (cough nice save). merlin doesn’t see the point in it bc nobles don’t care about him at best, view him as less than human at worst.

arthur really just wants to see his boyfriend servant in the tunic he had made for him (bonus points for sending a message that merlin is his. not that merlin seems to notice. man is too much of an idiot). merlin wants to preserve his favorite tunic and gift from his boyfriend king.
