Okay little by little preparing for regular posting on this blog to resume and thought I'd start with catching up on the roundups!

Midori no Uta by Taiwanese Yan Gao, who first garnered attention for illustrating the original Japanese edition of Haruki Murakami's Abandoning a Cat: Memories of my Father, tells the story of college student Lü after she moves to Taipei for university. There she spends less time on academic pursuits and more on music live shows. She then meets Nanjun, an amateur musician who shares his love of music with her. This leads her on a trip to Japan to look for the band Happy End's album Kazemachi Roman, which leads her to an instant love for Harumi Hosono and his music, and her first infatuation as she grows closer to Nanjun. This is maybe the first Taiwanese comic I've ever read and I loved every second of it. The Japanese translation was really great. Beautiful naturalistic cityscapes and I really adored how Lü's emotions were depicted. Everything Yan Gao was referencing was very interesting too. I love a college coming of age too. I really really hope someone takes the initiative to license it and that she gets another tankobon out soon.

Mermaid Scales and the Town of Sand by Yoko Komori was also a lovely little coming of age, although at an elementary school level. I really want even more understated but impactful stories like this on the english market and I'm really happy this one got licensed despite its age (it first came out in 2013). And speaking of more understated stories, Frieren by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe is soooooo good. Def a worthy comparison to a series like Delicious in Dungeon with how it is an earnest fantasy that decides to approach the staples of the genre from a novel perspective, altho I love how the atmosphere and tempo is completely different, really recommend for anyone who likes more low energy or relaxing stories. And PLEASE anime fans please watch the adaption when it premieres this fall!!!

I also in this period really enjoyed reading Ai ga Areba Ii no da by Ikuemi Ryou. This year I've read so much text heavy manga so reading one with a lot of silent panels and textless sequences was so refreshing, and really moved Ikuemi up on my priority list, I'm really looking forward to reading more.

Yoko to Tora by Fuyuko Kurosaki was another fun surprise in the sense that honestly when I pick up 4-koma on a whim I don't expect too much (Making Azumanga Daioh my first kinda set the expectations too high), and its no Azumanga but I still found myself wanting to recommend it. Imagine if you will a world where cats are plushie shaped and have the general intelligence of a child meaning they can understand and make themselves understood to humans without speaking, they go to school, and have friends they like to hang out with. This is the world of Yoko and Tora and all of their friends. Much like Chiikawa its the little world building details that elevate it from just another cutesy comedy. But don't get me wrong it is a cutesy comedy.

On a whole other track, Keimusho no Naka by Kazuichi Hanawa (licensed as Doing Time back in 2004), was a really fascinating depiction of life in prison as told by a man who had to do time over illegal weapon possession charges. The vivid details of the interior of the prison and the oppressive routines they had to endure from the people who run it was very enlightening. Not to mention Hanawa's artistic talent is like, crazy to me.

I'm still not making promises but posting on here is something that I want to do, so I'd like to ask if there's a preference to consistent posting (queue running consistently over the span of weeks) or if occasional sporadic bursts (queue runs inconsistently or just for a couple of days at a time) is fine too

WR&R MYSTERY KIDS LORE & WORLDBUILD MASTER POST

Gear up, kids, because this will be a long one.

It's been a while since I posted a new comic. Pretty soon there'll be a bunch, because I've been sitting on a mountain of scripts and just started making progress on actually making them into comics. I wanna build up a nice little backlog that I can queue up and not worry about for a long while. In the meantime though, I have something I hope will tide you guys over.

There's been a problem with my comic from the very beginning I've never really thought to address for years, and until now, I never found a good place for it. That problem is "worldbuilding." Originally when this comic started out, it was just a Psychonauts comic. Then I got into Mystery Kids, and the MKs just showed up out of nowhere.

We never got any information on how the Mystery Kids club started or how they all met. For the longest time, I kind of just defered to the collective fandom's various disorganized headcanons and ideas and stuff. But I think enough time has passed that those ideas have all changed, been forgotten about, or branched off into their own individual works.

So, it's finally time for me to fix that by giving this comic its own set of lore and backstory. In this post I'm going to explain how everything happened, how the kids came together and what order everything happened in. This is kind of written for my own personal amusement, but also as a guide to keep in mind when I'm writing new stories in this setting, to keep things consistent.

PART ONE: THE CANON HISTORY

The first step for this little exercise is to figure out when all the stuff in the original "canon" happened. This is where things get a little messy, because we have to figure out a proper order for everything so all the pieces can fit into place.

First, we have to come up with a system for naming the different eras and phases where things happen, so we can more easily compartmentalize the different events. So we'll call the first year the Mystery Kids are together "Year One." Anything before that we'll call Year -1 or -2.

Year -2 is where we'll put the events of Paranorman. They happen in Fall, around Halloween probably. Nearly the end of the year. It's important to set this part the furthest back for reasons we'll get into later.

Year -1 is where we'll put Coraline and Psychonauts. Dipper and Mabel are still in Pidemont. There are a few references in the comic to Raz still having a water problem due to "the curse." But in PN2 he conquers the curse. We'll chock that up to lingering after-effects and him trying to get past the mental block.

Near the end of Year -1, Aggie returns and reunites with Norman in events identical to how they played out in Ask-Norgatha. A lot of things that happen are very similar to that old blog, with the exception being Norman and Aggie don't get together. That comes later.

Year 1 is when Gravity Falls happens. Coraline and Norman are family friends (or cousins? I haven't decided, maybe not. Maybe 'honoary cousins'?) Anyway, so: things play out pretty much how they did in that fan episode people made. Doctor Loboto (during a villainous relapse, or a manic episode) comes to Gravity Falls, Raz and Lili chase after him, Coraline and Wybie come with Norman's family on a vacation to Gravity Falls. Aggie stays behind because Norman doesn't want her to get lost. At this point, her Poltergeist powers haven't kicked in yet and other people can't see her, meaning she'd have no way to get home.

So, during Loboto's shennanigans, the kids all come together to stop him. That's when we move into…

PART TWO: THE FANON HISTORY

Note: in this period, my comic has a lot of Holiday specials. We're operating on Peanuts rules here, where the time-scaling slides around to keep the characters from aging. But we'll say in the "real" canon, the stuff that happens on Holidays actually happen on regular days, for the most part. If things "have to" happen on a Holiday, they'll all happen on the same one, just at different times. We'll try not to think too hard about this, because it's just a cartoon. We're out to make a consistent world, but not to arbitrarily restrict ourselves. None of this stuff happened in the "real" world anyway.

Anyway, moving right along to the rest of "Year 1." This is for the comics I made while the show was still airing, so things all kind of click together.

This is where the first Mystery Kids Adventure happens. The kids are all united and save the day. All of this happens right in the middle of the events of Gravity Falls. From then on out, the kids have adventures together on and off, but its a little hard because they have to travel a pretty great distance to hang out together. They keep in touch on social media and stuff, occasionally finding ways to fake excuses to go out and travel together. But mostly, the group is pretty disorganized.

Dib is also a mindless fanboy of the group and wants to join, but everybody thinks he's weird and annoying, so they try their best to politely blow him off. Then he builds a teleporter that lets the kids get together easier, but the thing just barely works. Dib is made a "junior member" and just sort of hangs around.

The kids have a "clubhouse", but it's just a shanty shack built by Soos, half a mile away from the Mystery Shack.

At some point during this period, the Bedlam returns and the kids have to team up to stop her. Aggie helps somehow with her newly-emerging poltergiest powers. The Bedlam is defeated, and that's the last "real" adventure they have for a little while. They don't have a reliable way to meet up anymore, so they only get together for parties and stuff. This is where the Season 3 Finale happens, if you've read my archives.

PART THREE: THE CURRENT SITUATION

From Season 4 and onwards, everything that happens to the Mystery Kids happens in Year 2. That's where we are now.

It starts with Dib on one of his own little adventures. Somehow, he ends up stumbling on an abandoned treehouse that used to belong to the Kids Next Door. It hasn't been populated in years, but its full of still-functional tech that just got left behind. With it, Dib's able to power-up the teleporter technology and now the Mystery Kids can come together whenever they want. You need to stand perfectly still for like five minutes for the teleporter to work, so it isn't a "get out of danger free" plot device.

Seems like a REALLY important development to happen offscreen and go totally unmentioned, right? Well… I thought of it retroactively, so, whoops! But it's fine. We'll just have to make a flashback comic later where the kids find it.

So, from now on, everything that happens in the comic happens here, in Year 2.

If you've read this far, I'd like to thank you for humoring my nonsensical fanfiction ramblings for my silly mspaint webcomic. I hope you had fun and got as much out of that as I did. I'm really happy I was finally able to put it all together in one coherent place.

Ok so I've played through all of the first game now so I'm just going to ramble on for a bit. I was previously familiar with all but the last case.

Tbh if you don't go in a wrightworth shipper you aren't very likely to come out as one. The first game has it's moments, but I'm hoping the following games are more concrete bc I wouldn't want wrightworth to be a thing at this juncture. Miles has too much personal development going on, he's not ready for that. Also, different than I was expecting: Miles seems more into Phoenix than vice versa and I thought it would be the other way around. Phoenix has that undying optimism for Miles (which may be hurting their case actually), but it's not convincing as romantic interest for me. Not that I would say it's impossible he's interested, it just hasn't developed much yet.

I like the overall theme/lens to view through of leaving, being left, and choosing to stay (my personal interpretation, and I am in no way writing a complete thesis paper here).

The first instance is in Mia's death. You could argue Phoenix's choosing to stay starts with Larry, but I think Mia's death is where it really takes off. Mia's death is a consequence of her choosing to stay (she chose her path and stuck to it), and the consequence of her death is leaving. Phoenix and Maya are the most notable of those left behind. Phoenix is the one with the power in this situation and he chooses to stay (with Maya). He consistently chooses to stay with Miles, his belief unwavering.

We learn that Miles left and is choosing at first to stay leaving. In the Powers case he seems to be beginning to be choosing to stay and makes the decision more thoroughly during his own trials. His decision to stay with Phoenix and his morals. At the end (we all know what happens next) he chooses to stay by leaving.

At the end of Miles' cases, Maya leaves, but her leaving is really more about staying. She is leaving now so she can stay later, more staying by leaving.

Ema and Lana have the benefit of doing the leaving staying arc over the course of a single case. Lana left her morals and subsequently her sister but Ema chose to stay and so Lana had a place to come back to. Ema assures her during the trial that no matter what they'll still be sisters and showing once again she is staying. Had Ema chose to leave, Lana would be in jail and their relationship would never recover. Had Lana chosen to stay leaving the result would be much the same.

Rip to Gummy in RFtA. Phoenix is constantly roasting him, the guy (temporarily) loses his job, he has the worst timing imaginable. Love my boy.

I really like Angel Starr and Jake Marshall. They're such compelling characters and their gimmicks are fun. I feel like no one talks about them but at some point in the future expect many reblogs featuring them (idk when anything will pop out of my queue, it's got close to 500 in it so I keep having to up how many it posts daily)

Phoenix really sets up the 'Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death' with his 'you can either let what happened kill the prosecutor in you or let it grow' paraphrasing obviously bc I cannot be bothered to find the exact words but I knew as soon as I saw it.

I need someone to get Larry some help. idk if anyone can help him, but someone ought to try.

Not actually related to my play through but I got a 'let the parrot take the stand' shirt and it's my new favorite article of clothing.

OH this reminds me of something I meant to mention earlier, it's more of an observation than like Hard Fact but art does better when it's split up on multiple posts unless it like, goes together.

That's just like what I've noticed over time, people like it when you only got one big art! Plus thats more content to throw in the queue so win/win.

Moving onto your actual question, there's layers to it:

Step 1: Is it lewds or porn.

Straight up porn is technically banned and I advise NOT putting it on your main blog since it could get the account put into adult mode (which puts a lot of limits on the account like hidden for some users, not searchable, no proper blog only the logged in dashboard mode) If its tasteful lewds, continue.

Step 2: Is there a lot of liquid happening

From what I've heard the dividing line on if a post is flagged or not lately is how much liquid is happening, if not much then continue

Step 3: Tags & Labels.

Okay now for what you actually asked lol. The tag "NSFW" is shadow banned. It will get your post flagged. There ARE alternatives though, I've seen NSFT (not safe for tumblr) as the main one but I'm sure you can also find more if you get specific in your searches.

THE THING IS: using just tags can get you reported. Because we have a brand new feature too. If you're using the BETA post editor there's a button by the post button that says "Everyone" in there is a menu for labeling the post with mature themes.

It's up in the air if this will effect your post getting into searches, I've seen them in the wild of searches but you'll find that on tumblr it's not always consistent. But what it will do is make sure people under 18 do not see it!! Oh and you can still put tags on it to reach people.

Wait what, gimme a TLDR

Yeah fair, basically if you think you fit within the vague constraints outlined here you can post with the mature label and be fine (probably) you can also try to post without it at risk of being reported. You can use tags either way and you should still come up in searches, just not for kiddies (and not for users that haven't turned off the filter in the settings, thats on them though, people who don't check their settings regularly deserve horny jail to me) ALSO super don't use tags that don't apply, you'll get mega reported. Nobody wants an ass jumpscare.

If your post does get flagged you probably have too much liquid or used tags that tumblr did not like. You can edit the post and contest it or just make a new post. If you're worried about your whole account getting flagged then experiment on a side, (sides can be flagged without hurting your main) but you can also contest this status too.

hi!! sorry if this is a strange thing 2 ask but i was wondering if you possibly have any advice for starting up a blog like this one??

yeah sure!! i kind of went with more specific stuff (themed daily request blog style) cause you were a little vague. a few things to consider right off the bat are

a) how regurally can you comfortably draw? account for this in your scheduling!! its no good to burn yourself out. if you can, set up a queue of a week or so before you even start posting. i've kind of failed this recently but its really helpful when it actually works lmao

b) what level of effort are you putting into each piece? are you sticking with doodles? just keep in mind how much time/effort you're willing to maintain.

c) know what youre willing to draw! i struggle with this a little bit but its important i think to figure out what requests you're gonna turn down no matter what. boundaries yk?

c) consistency is key!!! in quality and in when you post! if you figure out a schedule (weekly, daily, only on certain days, whatever!!) it helps to stick to it. i do this for two reasons: 1) it helps me figure out what i need to do and when i need to do it & 2) it makes you more reliable (posting wise, that is).

d) whats your theme? how narrow/niche is it? (&most importantly) how passionate about it are you? is it fun? genuinely the most important factor to me is to make sure you have a relatively stable theme and a very stable enthusiasm for your blog.

Anyway, I'm mythological-mayhem, or Iris/Liara (she/her)! I do a ton of stuff on mythology in general, including Greek, Aztec, And a little bit of Norse and Egyptian. I love all mythology, and while I haven't studied all of them yet, leave me a myth suggestion or something and I'll be glad to look into it!

I post a lot of content involving headcanons, incorrect quotes, and a lot of mythology brain rot, but I'll reblog anything important enough.

My ask box is always open, but no NSFW and nothing really graphic unless it's historically accurate (I have a very loose definition of graphic, so it's generally fine). No NSFW blogs should be following me, and I will block any and all that I see.

I'll warn you guys now: I do not have a consistent blogging schedule, and I've yet to set up a queue. It could be anywhere in between one day to one or two weeks between posts. 2024 Edit: Okay, so I've decided that I'm going to make this blog focus on Aztec mythology more than the others, due to the real lack of this content I see. Basically because if no one's going to do it, I will. There has been a drought of Aztec god stuff on Tumblr and I fully intend this blog to be the rain that brings more mythological diversity to this website (wowww that was more poetic than I'm usually capable of).

From now, the layout of the blog will be 50% Aztec mythology, 35% Greek mythology, and 15% other mythologies. I am a Tezcatlipoca fan so like if you hate him dni (but I do post some mild hate of him sometimes, not really hate more like frustration/disappointment because you guys this man has done a LOT of things wrong).

It's nice to see new faces on the scene! Getting to look at new ideas and the thoughts behind them is always fun, and analysis is something that we can't get enough of around these parts.

My advice might be a little scattered, but I hope it helps. If anyone else has thoughts, feel free to add on!

Tumblr can be a little finicky; I've found that posts often don't show up if you have external links. You'll want to make posts directly to tumblr rather than autoposting from elsewhere, and also put any links (i.e. to Homebrewery/DNDBeyond) in a reblog. And then reblog the reblog so that people can find the reblog with the links in the reblogs.

I tend to use a lot of tags for my own posts, both for organization as well as for exposure, but I'll admit I only rarely look at any tags other than the "homebrew" tag. I'm sure other people operate in their own way, though.

In terms of the tumblr homebrew meta, balance and formatting and all are always important. But even more important is PRESENTATION!

(Imagine I'm saying that in a Megamind voice. I don't have the time to find the gif.)

A lot of the time if you just have, like, a link or a readmore to a text dump, people will just gloss over it without giving it a second look regardless of how cool a concept is or how meticulously balanced it is. An evocative picture and image stains for formatting can go a long way in turning heads. You're on a site that loves images; style accordingly.

If you have a lot to say, adding a readmore can help you not flood readers in walls of text. Tumblr does it automatically now, but it's still polite to do it after one or two paragraphs if you're going to be writing much more than that.

Blog maintenance... Posting consistently and frequently is good, if it's relevant to your blog's niche (if I'm following you for homebrew, I'd rather not also get flooded in your love for, say, Superwholock Undertale crossovers; that's what sideblogs are for). That being said, there's diminishing returns; more than 1 post a day and people might miss them entirely just due to scheduling. Having a queue set up for that is helpful.

Combining related things into a compendium is worth considering if you have, say, 10 rogue subclasses that you want to publish at once, but you tend to get more attention if you post them one by one. A compromise could be to post them one by one to build hype and make another post with the compendium. Haven't made enough of those to really say how effective that'd be.

Also remember to keep your followers list clear of bots. It's your tumblr civil duty.

I also often put things into the queue immediately after they finish so that my content can stay fairly consistent when I’m active. In addition, I do not work on ‘first in, first out’, instead going wherever my inspiration for certain characters/concepts lies at any point, so I do requests rather out of order most of the time. It may be a while before you see yours finished, but I do guarantee you that asking me a lot whether it’s done/if I’m working on it will not speed things up! Sorry in advance.

If you request Eli, please specify which pronouns you would like me to use when writing! It's canon as of Hush Hush that Eli goes by any pronouns, including 'she/her' and 'they/them'. If you don’t specify pronouns (or make it clear by using them in your ask), I will probably default to 'he' seeing as that's what he uses for pretty much all of Blush Blush.

I do art, audios, and video edits in addition to writing! Video edits are usually done without request because I pick the songs based on my own tastes, but I do often ask opinions on which one my followers want to see. And you can always request art and audios!

Captain's Log

Ahoy there, sailors and shipmates! It's been a couple of months, and as per my last update in February, I had said I should be done with the Surprise.... well, nearly... it's so close that I can almost taste the salt!! (sea water or sweaty pirate gaming, you decide)

I have but two coats of paint and then assembling all the pieces/components, and then it will be completed!!

I'm so excited to show you the end result, and I hope you're excited to see it!

It's been quite a long journey, plenty of twists, turns, route changes, (.... and losing the map entirely at one point.. whoops), but I'm so glad you have stuck around on this wild adventure with me...

An update a bit on the personal side:

I very much still have a hectic schedule and can't iron out the wrinkles as it seems just yet.

I have, however, started applying for new jobs that may be a bit more stable and consistent, which would greatly improve my productivity in my personal life (keeping up with the blogs queue and Captain's Log/Shiproute, working on other artistic side projects like the Surprise, leather work, and drawing).

But alas, I still have bills to pay, and therefore, I must keep the current job until I find a new one.. Otherwise, as I'm sure you will agree, I would just run to the sea and set sail... building a ragtag crew that's more like found family...

So for now, we wait.

We hold out against the storm.

Batten down the hatches,

Secure the lines.

The storm will pass,

We will survive.

May there be gentle seas ahead for you, shipmate, and happy sailing.

I do lots of research, but, sometimes my facts in content (whether historical facts or canon events facts) might be inaccurate. Most of the time this is because I’m choosing ~aesthetic~ over accuracy, but I’m also not perfect and may mess up. (I promise you, I will NEVER live down the Cheslock oneshot where I somehow blanked on the fact that June 4th was the cricket tournament and not the last day of classes. 😂)

If you request Grell or Doll/Freckles, please specify which pronouns you would like me to use when writing! I headcanon Grell as genderfluid and Doll/Freckles as bigender, so for Grell I am just fine using ‘he/him’, ‘she/her’, and ‘they/them’ pronouns; for Doll/Freckles, I am fine using ‘she/her’ and ‘they/them’ pronouns. If you don’t specify pronouns (or make it clear by using them in your ask), I will simply go with whichever ones feel right to me in that request.

hi liv! welcome to tumblr :) i’m doing alright! thank you so much for visiting my blog~ i'm glad you like it!

everyone's definition of “successful” is different, but here are some tips (from my experience) that can help guide you:

1. what is your blog about? think about what kind of content you want to share with others. this could be a hobby, a tv series, a person, a particular subject, or any of your interests. perhaps you have multiple interests that you want to share. that's okay, too! personally, i have 3 blogs and each one has different content -- this one (studyblr), my main blog (personal/multifandom with a pale/pastel/black and white aesthetic), and my aesthetic blog (pretty photos with warm colors).

2. who is your audience? think about who you want to share your blog content with, or who you think your blog is best suited for. perhaps it’s a particular age group, or it may be a larger and more general audience. for example, most studyblrs aim to share their content with students around the world, including high schoolers, college (university) students, and graduate students.

3. be active! you don’t need to be on tumblr 24/7, but i would still suggest being here when you can. if you’re here every day, that’s great! if not, that’s okay. while you’re here, you don’t have to post original content unless you want to. you can simply like/reblog other posts and interact with others. if you need to take a break, go ahead! you may let your followers know that you’re going on hiatus and tell them (approximately) when you’ll be back. you can also set up a queue (read more about queued posts here) so that your blog stays active while you’re gone.

4. if you decide to post original content, post it consistently. this is one of the best ways to gain recognition in the tumblr community. when you decide to post is entirely up to you. this may be once a week, once every other week, twice a month, etc. if, at some point, you end up posting inconsistently or not at all, that’s okay. we understand that you may have other priorities and commitments outside of tumblr. additionally, you can pin your most recent original post to the top of your blog so that it can get more attention, and it becomes the first post that people will see when they visit your blog (read more about pinned posts here). most importantly, DO NOT REPOST OTHER PEOPLE’S CONTENT WITHOUT PERMISSION AND WITHOUT CREDIT, AND DO NOT CLAIM IT AS YOUR OWN!! this is a serious problem (not only on tumblr, but also on other platforms) and we’re tired of seeing it happen over and over again. you will most likely be caught and reported if you do so. you have been warned.

5. use tags wisely. when i say tags, i mean hashtags, not @’s. you can put up to 30 tags on a post, but for original posts, tumblr indexes only the first 20 tags that you use. after that, your original post will NOT show up in tumblr’s search for the rest of your tags (please refer to this post). i recommend the first 5 tags to be the most relevant to what your post is about. the remaining 15 tags can also be related to your post. you can also tag “big” blogs (again, related to your post and similar to your blog) that track a tag so that they can see your post and like/reblog it to share with their followers! for example, i track #gloomstudy, and other studyblrs can tag their original posts with this tag so that i’ll be able to see them and reblog their posts to help them gain exposure.

6. quality over quantity. you’re welcome to post original content and reblog other content as often as you like, but in my experience, most people want to see good quality content. in other words, put care and effort into your blog (and your original content, if you post any)! make it look nice and easy to navigate! you can find several free custom blog themes/pages and tutorials for how to install them right here on tumblr.

7. support, follow, and interact with other blogs and your followers. this includes liking and reblogging other posts, commenting on/replying to posts that interest you, replying to messages that you receive, etc. PLEASE SUPPORT OTHER CONTENT CREATORS BY REBLOGGING THEIR ORIGINAL POSTS!! i cannot stress this enough. we appreciate the likes that we receive, but we’re also tired of seeing the number of reblogs being significantly less than the number of likes, which leads to less exposure and, for many of us, less motivation to create and post new original content. most importantly, PLEASE BE KIND AND RESPECTFUL!! constructive criticism/feedback is okay if someone asks for it, but other than that, please be nice! you never know what someone is going through, and one of the best things you can do is to offer your kindness and respect.

8. be yourself and have fun! most of us are here to share similar interests, support each other, and have a good time. it’s okay if your blog doesn’t become “successful” right away. try not to worry too much about the numbers, and please don’t be discouraged if the success of your blog is moving slowly. remember, everyone here has started at zero. you’re not alone!

✨ BONUS TIP!! ✨ for an improved tumblr experience overall, i highly recommend installing xkit! it’s an extension that provides a lot of options for customizing your dashboard and posting more efficiently. here are links for new xkit and xkit rewritten. be sure to install the correct one for the browser that you’re using! i use both of them simultaneously (although i find that xkit rewritten is better for tumblr’s current web interface; you can use one or the other, or both), and they really help me a lot!

ultimately, your blog belongs to you, and it’s up to you to decide how you want to run it. i can’t tell you exactly how to run a blog because that would be unreasonable, but i hope you find these tips helpful! again, please keep in mind that this is from my experience, which may be different from others. if anyone else has more tips, please feel free to reblog/reply to this post! ^_^

The Miys, Ch. 152

I’m not going to jinx it, I’m not going to jinx it, I’m not going to jinx it...

Okay, maybe I am. I managed to queue up the chapters I had in the barrel! Yay!! Which also means that I have a super duper exciting chapter coming up, which I can’t wait to write and can’t wait for y’all to read. I just need it to be perfect.

That said, thank you to @baelpenrose and @charlylimph-blog for your help with this particular chapter.  I love when we are all three in one of these sessions and just descending into chaos in the chat. Also, @mamayoda (who I can’t tag but I do want you to know I see your likes in my notes!) for love-bombing my notes recently.

“Is it just me or is everyone really jumpy?” Charly asked as I set my food down across from her.  It was our thrice-weekly lunch dates in one of the public mess halls, and she definitely had a point.  I had already noticed three people scowl distrustfully at the food consoles, hugging closely to the prepared food side of the room instead.

I sighed. “It has to have been Derek’s stress test.  It wasn’t supposed to impact systems we didn’t design, but…”

She snorted loudly. “Tell that to the week I spent taking cold showers again.  At least this time, the doors didn’t play any music when I walked through them.”

“Did your doors at least open consistently? I was stuck in my quarters for a whole day until we figured out that I could walk through if I had an escort.”  I laughed and shook my head before digging in to my food. “And, come to find out, we actually do manage the water systems, thanks to BioLab 2.”

Contrary to myself, Charly was entirely unperturbed at this revelation beyond sniffing her hoodie and shrugging. “My doors worked fine as far as I know, but Coffey and I tend to work the same hours, so… Maybe that was it.  Oo!” Her cheer of enthusiasm caught me off guard as she started bouncing in her seat. “OOOOO! I bet he activated the routine Xiomara had running when you and Jokul weren’t friends yet!”

“There was a routine!?” I asked, exasperated. “I behaved, thank you. It wasn’t necessary.”

“Meh. Just in case. What do you think her deal is?” She tilted her head to the side, at a table near us.

Sure enough, the woman at that table was darting glances around the room, her shoulders hunched, elbows close to her body, eyes wide.  I could practically feel her shaking from where I was. “I can’t tell if she looks suspicious or afraid,” I murmured, hoping the woman couldn’t hear me. “But the fact that I’ve met mice and chihuahuas who shook less, I’m going to go with afraid.”

As I watched the woman, weighing whether or not a stranger trying to comfort her would make it better or worse, Mona’s familiar face approached her instead.  She was speaking softly enough that I couldn’t make out words, but the woman clearly recognized her and only jumped slightly.

I was so focused on the sight of Mona comforting the woman that I nearly hit the ceiling when Parvati’s voice came from entirely too close to my right shoulder. “Rebecca.  She lost her family twice, first her parents, some cousins, and an uncle when the hack happened, and then her partner and children in the After.  It’s understandable that she’s terrified right now, after the stress test. Too many bad memories.”

My face flushed in humiliation. “Pranav and Zach sent a ship-wide alert that the stress test was happening - “

A perfectly manicured hand clapped over my mouth, one dark eyebrow arched in eloquent disbelief. “Sophia. You of all people know that mental scars do not heed logic.”

Charly’s hair flew around her face as she nodded enthusiastically. “After day three of cold showers, I flinched every time I went through a door in case that stupid song started playing again, no matter how many times I reminded myself that it was a stress test and I had decidedly not given Derek boba tea again.”

Both my hands flew up in surrender. “I stand corrected, I just feel awful to see people react like that.” Gazing around the room, I was suddenly much more aware of all the darting eyes, protective postures, seats turned so that backs were against walls.

Charly had obviously seen the same thing. “We may need to talk to Pranav about limiting the tests to one or two systems at a time.”

“I wish we could,” I admitted, stabbing a potato out of my pie slightly harder than necessary. “His department was passing the tests with flying colors when Derek was limited to one or two systems at a time.  But they failed this last test miserably, it turns out.  As soon as they would react to one thing, Derek would switch to another system, and they couldn’t be everywhere at once as well as they convinced themselves that they could.  And they can’t just be good at small scale attacks: the revolt that happened before the End brought everything down at once, from multiple access points. It was… kind of elegant, in a terrible way.  Very clean.”

Charly squinted at me and Parvati in suspicion. “Are you supposed to know that they crashed and burned in the test.”

I rocked my hand back and forth while I chewed on a mouthful of crust.  It had way too much butter in it, but at least it was actually crust this time. A week ago it had been something pretty close to paper mache. “Technically we don’t officially know that.  Officially, all we know is that Pranav has requisitioned enough additional staff to increase his team of programmers by seventy percent.”

“Asses handed to them, got it,” Charly nodded in understanding.

“We also officially know that Pranav currently owes Hannah quite the enormous favor,” Parvati confided.

“How big?” Charly ventured slowly.

“Big enough that his grandchildren may be indebted to hers,” came the laughing response.

Charly shook her head and clucked her tongue. “He should know better than to bet against Derek.  He breaks the systems for fun, and they asked him to really go for it. What did they expect?”

“Apparently to put up a better fight at least.” I forced a smile, but guilt weighed on my heart as I studied the room again, fully seeing the microexpressions of anxiety, fear, and anger.  It felt like the entire Ark was constantly swinging between hope and fear. The random drills weren’t really helping, either.

“They aren’t,” Parvati agreed, letting me know that I had been thinking out loud. “Everyone is sleep deprived, on high alert, and then all of a sudden all the computer systems went on the fritz for a week.”

I sighed and rubbed my forehead, pushing what was left of my pot pie away from me, appetite gone. “We need to talk to Grey and Antoine about getting counselling for everyone, seeing as how Xiomara and Pranav pretty much just triggered the entire ship. I mean, everyone knows counselling is available, but I think allocating training and resources to the therapy teams is going to take priority over Pranav’s request for the moment.”

Charly tapped her chin thoughtfully. “Do we have the space for some quiet rooms, like you set up for the Food Festival a few years back? That may be a good idea.”

Snapping into work-mode, Parvati flicked her datapad open, bangles clattering as she started making notes. “The quarters left by those who relocated closer to the Archives are still uninhabited, those can be used.  We may be able to convince some people to relocate so we can spread the rooms out more evenly, but even if we can’t, just having those rooms available will help.”

“Make a note to add in the proposal for Grey: possibility of having specific vendors permitted to serve food in BioLab 2.  Encourage mental health days and picnics.”

Parvati nodded in acknowledgement of my request, before adding her own spin. “As a contingency plan, find vendors who will pre-package picnics.  Between the current distrust of the consoles and the fact it will remind everyone of the annual Festival, the good emotions will help.”

“I like it,” I confirmed. “What else?”

“Paintball tag day in the corridors,” Charly announced, without preamble or warning. “Make it a holiday, everyone is off work, limit it to one end of the Ark.”

I shook my head. “Guns, not the best idea.”

“Ew, no. No pew-pew.” She wrinkled her nose. “I was thinking more paint-soaked splash bombs.”

Finger guns deployed, dual wielding. “I am so here for a paintball tag day in that case.  The flavored paint?”

“Not the scotch bonnet please,” Parvati begged. “I just know someone will get that in the face, I don’t care how much Else likes it.”

“Got it, no more pepper spraying people,” Charly agreed seriously. “OOO! I could test the new arrows out!  With something like buttered popcorn paint, obviously. Maybe kiwi on the other team.”

“Just limit the pull on the bows, okay? I don’t want anyone getting hurt.”

“Fiiiiine…”

Parvati smiled and added to her notes. “So, we probably want someone to correlate the current date to whatever the date would be on Earth… Just in case we need to get a consultant for Holi.”

“Good point. Conor is alarmingly good at that, so I can ask him.  It would be a nice cultural event if we could do that. If not, we can totally work on celebrating Holi when it comes around.”

“Final suggestion for right now, because I have to get back to work,” I sighed happily. “This is going to be the biggest ask, and the smallest at the same time…” Both nodded at me to continue. “Care packages, for everyone. And I mean everyone on the Ark.”

“Sophia,” Parvati scolded me. “That’s almost ten thousand people and sixteen animal companions.”

“Well aware,” I forged on, “We’ll talk to Sam about the bows, I can wrap them. Commission some of those really nice chocolates, or maybe some taffy from Simon. And something salty.  I know there is someone on the Ark who makes aromatherapy candles, Tyche is bananas about them.”

Shaking her head, she added it to the list. “If you insist on that, I insist on a celebration for the drop out of FTL.  Hannah and I can use some of the plans from the Food Festival, include Charly’s paint tag - “

“And Kink Night!”

“- and Kink Night, apparently… have several events going on across the Ark, since we already discussed declaring a holiday.”

“Get Bash’s permission to use the Undine again, and I won’t object,” I surrendered before standing. “On that note, I really do have to get back to work.  Come on, Vati, we have work to do apparently.”

Thank you so much for tagging me @lan-xichens​, I’ll try my best to explain how I made this set from start to finish hehe ♡ and also a big thank you to @suibianjie​ @highwarlockkareena​ @nyx4​ @aheartfullofjolllly​ and you as well Kris for putting this all together! Content creators get a lot less recognition than they deserve for all the time they put into their content, so getting everyone to see the (sometimes excessive) process we all go through to put our content in our blog, I hope it creates a positive change!! 💖

1. Planning

The set in question was actually requested by someone so they could celebrate their friend’s birthday! At first I wasn’t entirely sure if I was going to be able to finish it on time (college is very hectic right now) but I was able to finish it three days before the deadline which was may 1st! ^-^

The first thing I did was decide what characters I wanted to use in the set, I first reached out to the person who requested the set if there were certain characters they wanted me to use but they said they didn’t know enough to really give me any directives outside of the quote. I decided, since the quote is applicable to the entirety of the show, that I would try to put in as many characters as possible.

Thus, of course, came the hunting for scenes. Those of you in the net discord surely know I came into the content help channel a few times to ask for certain scenes here and there, and eventually I had to download an additional 10 episodes to the back then 20 or so episodes I had in my CQL episodes folder.

As you can see I have 30 random episodes of CQL downloaded (slowly but surely getting to the point where I have all 50 episodes downloaded) and I think I ended up using scenes out of at least 20 of those episodes.

I planned out beforehand what characters I would use per gif. I knew obviously I would start out with Wangxian, them being the main characters of the show, and then would work my way down the list. The second gif consists of Nie Huaisang, Nie Mingjue, Jin Zixuan, Jiang Yanli, Wen Qing, and Wen Ning. They’re all family pairings, two being siblings and one being a married couple. The next gifset consists of the Yi City characters, then the fourth gif consists of the juniors, and the final gif has Jin Guangyao, Mianmian, Jiang Cheng, and Lan Xichen in it.

I have to admit though that when I had made the first four gifs I’d forgotten who I would put in the last gif and the when I thought about it the first time around I could only think of Lan Qiren and the very cursed Yaoyang ship 😭 it was only at dinner time that same day that I remembered I hadn’t put Jiang Cheng in my gifset yet and that’s when I thought of the other characters as well.

I had already made my first two gifs when I went to check Hanyi’s blog for layout inspo and eventually I decided I wanted to try a triangle-ish layout, which I doodled below. I eventually ended up changing the layout of the last gif in the final design. It was also the first time I would work with a triangle-ish layout so I was a bit nervous as I was scared it wasn’t going to work out...

2. Creating

I use Avisynth 2.5 and Adobe Photoshop 2021 (the paid version, unfortunately, I need it for school except I didn’t need it this year but I wanted it so I paid for it with my own money ouch) to make my gifsets! I always start out with trimming down all the scenes I’m going to use into three to five second videos and putting them through Avisynth. This time around I did it separately for each gif I made, simply because I needed so many scenes. I would include a screenshot of my “gif vids” and “temp” folders but I’ve already deleted all the videos, which is what I usually do immediately after a set is posted.

I’ll try my best explaining this gif by gif since each one had a different layout!

2.1 Wangxian

I think I had up to five different designs of this gif 😭 it started out with the gif on the left originally being more centered and the quote right smack in the center but somehow it felt a bit too... empty? I changed up the design and pulled the gif over to the right and put the two closeups on the left, the exact opposite of the gif I eventually ended up with. I switched things around one more time and saved the gif as you can see it right now, except I didn’t include the lines yet. It was only as I finished up my fourth gif that I decided this gif needed lines as well so I added them ^-^

2.2 Nie Huaisang, Nie Mingjue, Jin Zixuan, Jiang Yanli, Wen Qing, and Wen Ning

I got the inspiration for the font layout on this gif from this Wenzhou post! I hadn’t tried it before and when I did for this gif I was very happy with the way it turned out :D I wanted to portray that life is a pile of good and bad things, as the quote says, in CQL by mirroring these happy scenes side by side with the sad scenes

2.3 Yi CIty

My first time working with the triangle layout!! Putting in the lines and making sure they would line up with the second gif took me the longest of all actually  😭 I think once I got the line on the left in I just copy pasted it and flipped it horizontally so I didn’t have to fiddle around with angling it anymore :’) my original idea was to get a happy Song Lan scene and a sad A-Qing scene, but when I stumbled upon this A-Qing scene in ep38 I just had to put it in there because her smile is so precious 🥺 Xue Yang and Xiao Xingchen in the center are also supposed to be mirrored, with Xue Yang embodying the “bad things” and Xiao Xingchen the “good things” ! I also think the Yi City characters fit this part of the quote very well!!

2.4 The Juniors

Ah yes, the junior quartet!! :D I had this planned out from the very beginning, that I would include happy versus sad juniors in the “vice versa” part of the quote, and I think it worked out quite well! My first idea was to put the “vice versa” completely in the special font and have it typed out over the gifs like I did with the “vice” but as I typed out the “versa” I realized it had one letter too much to be able to do that 😭😭 it took me a while to come up with how I would position the “but” and “versa” and after some moving around I decided to just place them the way I did in the final gif! For the font, I duplicated the “vice” and added a stroke to the duplicate, then I changed the fill setting to 0% so I could slightly drag the duplicate away from the original layer to create the effect that’s in the gif — also, finding a scene in which Jin Ling smiles is really difficult.... he barely even smiles in the scene I ended up using :(

2.5 Jin Guangyao, Mianmian, Jiang Cheng, and Lan Xichen

The final gif!! I feel like this might come a little across as “I promise I didn’t forget these characters” because they’re a very odd quadruplet to put together, but they were the most important characters left to put in the set! I was thinking of putting Nie Mingjue in here together with Jin Guangyao and Lan Xichen, but I did feel he fit more with his brother up in the second gif. Mei @mylastbraincql​ cheered me on making this gif for which I was very grateful :D <3 the layout came to be after I googled “how to evenly split a rectangle in four” because I didn’t want a repeat layout in the set  (*/∇＼*)

2.6 Coloring

For the coloring I pretty much did all of the tweaking on the first gif and then copy pasted all of it onto the second, third, fourth, and fifth gif. This is usually the way I go about my coloring, I will always edit certain gifs if necessary but I don’t think I had to change the coloring much on any of these gifs? Maybe I added in a curve layer here and there, but nothing major! This is really one of my preferred coloring styles, even though I try to step outside of my comfort zones with other sets ^-^

3. Posting

I will always upload sets into my drafts and edit the caption in there as well, clicking on “preview post” a couple times to check everything looks good on my blog as well, before I post a set. However, this time, since there was a deadline and I finished before the deadline, I put this set in the queue so it would automatically post on the 1st of may! Knowing myself, I would’ve forgotten to do so </3

Whew that was... a lot 😭 did it make any sense? Probably not, but it was fun to ramble （ ´∀｀）

hiiiiii tumblr noob question; what’s the difference between queueing and scheduling posts/reblogs?

Hi! Well, there are no stupid questions here so I don't mind <3

Putting my answer under the cut because I'm sure there are people who don't care lol

Keep in mind-

I, personally, don't use the general queue function but the scheduling function instead so, if I'm off-base with the queue part that's why lol. Also- I run my blog ENTIRELY off of my phone so, if you're a desktop user... I have no clue what the fuck happens there, it might as well be the wild west lmao.

However, here's your explanation:

Your queue is basically a folder where you put posts that you would like to reblog or post to your blog eventually rather than spam reblogging all of the posts at once (which... there's nothing wrong with doing that, run your silly little blog exactly the way your silly little heart desires). Depending on your queue settings, the posts that you put in your queue will go up at some point throughout the day/following days. I, personally, have my daily limit set to 50 posts that will post between 12 am and 12 pm which, as I understand, allows for the posts in my queue to go up anytime of day and very frequently at that. But also... mine is that way because I don't use it, and I will get into that shortly.

The lower number of allowed posts/reblogs in your queue settings, the less posts that will go up that day. If all of the posts in your queue are not used, the queue then rolls over into the next day (I'm pretty sure it does at least). Some people also tag their queues, you don't have to though, as with everything lol.

Now, your scheduling function-

Scheduling a post is more or less, the same thing as queuing something I'm not gonna lie. However, the main difference is that you can control EXACTLY when the post will go up with scheduling. Which I, personally, like way more.

Side note:

I believe that, typically, people use the queue function for day to day use and the scheduling function for Specific posts/reblogs that reference one time or holiday or whatnot. Like, I might queue a reblog of a drawing of Steve Rogers but then I might schedule a reblog of a drawing of Steve Rogers in a Santa hat for next Christmas.

To use myself as an example yet again, I use my scheduling to keep consistency on my blog the way I want it. I schedule my posts/reblogs/content to go up routinely in the morning at 6:00 am, 6:15 am, 6:30 am then, during mid-day 12:00 pm, 12:15 pm, 12:30 pm and finally in the evening at 6:00 pm, 6:10 pm, 6:20 pm, and 6:30 pm Pacific Standard Time. I also tend to add answered asks in there at 9:00 am, 9:15 am, and 9:30 am or I just post them lol, whatever I feel like.
