How TWST characters react to finding out your real name

They hadn't realized you were using a fake name or a nickname, and when they find out you hadn't told them your real name, they each reacted in their own way.

Featuring : Idia, Lilia, Crowley, Ace/deuce/grim (together) , Azul/jade/Floyd (together), Malleus, Epel, Rook, Vil, Kalim, Jamil

Idia - Fair. Its like using a fake in game name only in real life, who needs to know your real name? It's not that important, it doesn't change that you're still you. But he is glad that you trusted him with your real name, but now he's a little possessive, and doesn't like it when other people use your real name. Its HIS privilege to know the you behind the character! (He wants his y/n moment and he gets some sort of fulfillment knowing he was the first to learn your true name. Like he's in some sort of otome game)

Lilia- he raises an eyebrow and has an amused smile on his face. He wasn't expecting you to feel the need to hide your identity, were you some sort of refugee? Hiding from something? You then explain to him you simply didnt feel comfortable sharing your real name with a bunch of strangers since coming to twisted wonderland, and he was easily able to accept that answer. He calls you by whatever name you prefer, it makes no difference to him, and he quickly gets over it. (If he wants to get your attention and tease you, he will use your real name)

Malleus- A little bit...hurt, in a way? You couldn't trust him with your real name? He knew others thought he was scary and didnt trust him for his lineage, however he had to remind himself that you were different than them. You were kind and understanding, and he had to push back his childish thinking. He did the same thing in fact, hiding his name from you until learning far after your meeting. Perhaps you had your reasons as well, and he respects that, and warms his heart slightly coming to terms that you had entrusted him with that information. He uses whatever name you feel the most at ease of hearing, but there will be times in which you two are alone and he gets in his feelings. Hearing your name sound so sincere and loving coming from his lips makes it sound sweeter than you remember.

Azul + the Leech brothers- Shocked. Flabbergasted. You did it in such a cool way too, you signed his contract using a name he wasn't familiar with. "You are aware that using a fake name won't do you any good, Right?" He had pointed out. You gave him a smirk and crossed your arms, "Who says its fake? In fact, the name I signed is indeed my REAL name. I thought I might as well use my real name, to show how confident I am that your little tricks will not fool me." Jade simply smiled and nodded in approval, whilst Floyd began laughing hysterically at Azuls reaction (his mouth hung open. He just convinced himself you had an inflated ego.) Needless to say, they will not forget that moment in a while.

Crowley- Blames you and says "Well of course I couldn't find your records anywhere or continue with my investigation on your case, you didnt even give me an accurate name to go by!" (In reality he wasn't doing anything to help you, he just thought this gave him an out and more time to think of something. You knew this.) The gaslighting king, and good at making you feel bad for not enrolling into the school by providing your full real name. You rolled your eyes and kept doing what you were doing (slay)

Kalim- he gets super excited, and fully respects you by any name you go by. He showers you in compliments and says its such a nice and fitting name for a person such as yourself. He smiles brightly and locks arms with you; "(fake name) or (real name), they both suit you well! You're still the prefect I love, regardless of what name you use!" .... But then he starts to ask you why, and it turns into an hour long conversation about names. (Probably tries to suggest names that would suit you)

Jamil- A little surprised at first, however he never made a big deal out of it and didnt care much. He shrugged and continued using the name you had given him, its what you chose to go by, is it not? So he will continue to do so. (Inwardly he understands why you hid your true identity, but also thinks its silly in a way. Why would you go so long without sharing something as small as a name? But it was a one time thought, and never dwelled on those questions.)

Vil- Also doesn't make a big deal out of it. Your name suits you well, he will ask what you prefer to go by, however. If you aren't comfortable using your real name, who is he to judge? He asks you once about why you chose to use a fake name, and he respected it. "Or I can just call you prefect, if you prefer? Your title precedes your name, and it's a form of respect. How does that sound?" You chuckle and say that you trust him enough to be on a first name base, and he responds with a slight blush. You really know how to see past his professionalism.

Rook- Add it to his list of things he knows about people and probably knows too much about people. He stores it in his mind along side with your weight, your height, your frequented places in the school, your gym scores, the height you can jump, how fast you finish your lunch, how big your hand is, your shoe size, how many hairs are on your head... "magnifique! I just love learning new things about you, it never ceases to amaze the mysteries you hold! Please, tell me more!"

Epel- A little bit disappointed you hadn't told him sooner. He gets over it quickly, but he was still a little upset to hear that he was one of the last people to find out what your real name is! Not that it truly matters, but a persons name is a persons treasure, and he wanted a part of the great reveal! (It wasn't THAT great. It came up casually, he's just a little sentimental and dramatic sometimes.) He ends up carving your name out of an apple, he says he made it cause' he was bored and no other reason, but in reality he really likes your name more than he leads on.

Ace/deuce/Grim- What do you MEAN that the past year they have been calling you by a FAKE/NICKNAME This entire time?? Do you have that little faith in them???? When you explained to them you had simply rolled with it when you first arrived to twisted wonderland and became accustomed to it, the name flowed off your tongue as natural as breathing. It had nothing to do with trust as time went on. They were all so dramatic about it though. "Our Prefect LIED to us!" They cried out, prostrating themselves on the floor and demanding you buy them food in to compensate 'the emotional damages' they claimed you inflicted upon them. You rolled your eyes and laughed playfully as the three of them whined about your "distrust" in them.

You loved them nonetheless, those morons 💜

Up to 20,384 words, which feels insane, and I renamed the characters I didn't like the names of! My main character went from Skye to Jules, a side character named after my friend's crush became Olivia, and the one named after my gf became Chloe. While writing this post I realized Chloe was too close to Clio, the name of another side character, so Clio became Faye. That was the smallest, easiest problem to fix out of all the problems, but the whole name situation was really bothering me so I'm glad I changed it tbh

Delighted to announce that my story has officially reached novella length! I truly didn't think it would get this far, and didn't think I would be able to stick with it to get it this long. According to Wikipedia, a novella is 17,500-40,000 words, and I'm currently at 17,714. And I'm going to keep writing for awhile tonight. I'm just super proud of this

hello !!!!!!!!! im back on the grid again and with a bang, here to deliver a comic ive been working on since september ! its gonna be pretty messy, inconsistent, and just purely me having fun . therell be a lot of things ive thought through thoroughly, and therell be some things i forgot to even existed ! all in all this is a comic about a character whos been gone for a year and one that doesnt even exist, so its all built from me being silly

there will be sensitive topics discussed or depicted ! those will have a warning placed beforehand for each update, even though many of these things are meant to be up to interpretation or implied . some anecdotes ive written have been quite heavy though, so if i end up finishing them, listen to the content warnings

this will be a non-linear story, so instead of chapters i have named them anecdotes . they will be moreso bits and pieces of my o!quackity and o!wilbur's lives, specifically of them together, so some parts will be before or after others . some parts will reference each other, or foreshadow, but u likely wont need to read the anecdotes in any specific order

^ and so, because of this, the dynamics of wwtc&s!tntduo will change and will be inconsistent, just as what happens with real people if u look into random pockets of their life . some anecdotes theyll be more comfortable with each other, some theyll be more spiteful, some theyll be more awkward, etc. especially since oquackity has no character and owilbur is underdeveloped

this comic is a lot about change but also keeping familiarity in said change, which is totally not just an excuse for my inconsistent ass nope nuh-nuh. this time its actually relevant to the characters !!!!

ok im talking abt diego and lila

their relationships this season was so gross to me i'll start with the biggest thing but the whole "yknow she said u couldnt get pregnant while breastfeeding, you can" was WEIRD, it was WEIRD and while it could have been in character for Diego to be stupid and a jerk and view it that way them never correcting this line of thinking really just paints Lila as some conniving evil woman that tricked Diego into having more babies. Which if its meant to be true is just about the most foul way you could have written her character bc sure turn all strong-headed women into evil people thats fine that has no repercussions on feminism. But also bc realistically Lila also didn't fucking know. And not coming to any sort of conclusion on if she did or didn't is kindof crazy bc people that took that as her genuinely tricking Diego into having babies are rightly pissed bc thats a fucked up thing to do but also when it happens in REAL LIFE (i give diegos twins a little handshake) the woman usually just doesn't fucking know either, its misinformation given by doctors and the woman are usually also not fucking aware of it and are not running schemes to trick men into having babies with them and I feel like portraying it that way is just gross and unnecessary Also generally why did they have to make them hate being parents to such extremes, I really really understand how a "diego and lila struggle to be parents to 3 children after being actual superheros their whole life" plotline could've been good and I was excited when they started it out but they ended it awfully and it just makes diego and lila look like kinda shitty parents???? literally the entire show they are complaining about their children, they act like they're a burden and it never gets turned around, Diego has like one moment of realizing he needs to be more present but it's mostly put in the context of him and Lila's relationship not either of their relationships with their kids, I don't even know 2 of their kids names I'm pretty sure they call them "the twins" the entire show. And the whole thing was completely overshadowed by the weird ass Lila/Five so they never got to have a moment of realizing their marriage is a good thing, or figuring out a way to go about their lives if they really didnt want to be married anymore. I really do understand they were trying to go for a good plot where Diego and Lila are struggling and it's so reasonable that they would be! But they could not fucking fit it all in 6 episodes with the amount of screentime it was given, and I rlly just think they should've dropped it cause its such a nuanced plot to throw and them rushing through it honestly just makes it seem like diego and lila are shit parents who ideally would've never had kids Idk I'm gonna watch those last few episodes again cause I admit my eyes were fucking glazing over trying to keep up with Diego and Lila's plot while Lila was w Five and I HOPE it was handled better than I realized the first watch but I really just feel like they fumbled it and the line making it seem like Lila was tricking him into having kids never getting resolved REALLY makes me feel like umbrella academy season 4 hates women

Friday Answer! : D I would have loved to draw out a response to this, but sadly I lack both the time and energy right now, but I really like the idea of this so I wanted to go ahead and answer it anyway! Since I wasnt sure if this was directed at a specific character(s) I figure I'd go with Wish and Reconstruct since they have been my obsession for the past few months 😅 So lets see that they dream about 👀 Wish's Infinite Tsukuyomi

Wish would find himself back in his original world. While the events that had lead up to him becoming an eevee hybrid still happened, the difference is that the Gladion from his world would still be alive. The mission that he and Gladion had set out on (after Necrozma and the Ultra Beasts attack their world), ended up being successful. Not only had they been able to restore their universe, but most important was that they had been able to find Lillie and being her back home, safe and sound. Lusamine stepped down from Aether, letting her children take it over, and the two of them were able to rebuild Aether from the ground up, making much needed improvements and bringing it back better than it was before; truly it became the "paradise" that it was meant to be. Wish doesnt mind being an eevee hybrid, he is accepted the way that he is, no one thinking it strange. He gets a chance to pursue other interests in his life, like cooking and art mostly. He helps around Aether with taking care of the pokemon, as well as his own. One day a litter of eevees come in, one of them taking a real shine to Wish. The little eevee is tricolored, his face adored with freckles. Wish instantly falls in love with him, and he follows him around like a second shadow. He lives his days at Aether, being by the side of the person he loves the most, which is all he ever really wanted. ----------------------------------------------------------- Reconstruct's Infinite Tsukuyomi

Having never fallen into the clutches of his mother, Reconstruct never would have been changed into the way he is now, and would have remained human. He would finally cut his mother out of his life completely. No fear of her, or what she would do to Lillie, just gone without a word and he is fine with that. He would have gotten to travel the world, becoming an amazing trainer, and getting to partake in many battles, making a name for himself and his trusted partner, Silvally. He got to battle because he enjoyed it, and not to fill a void in his life or a desperate need to get stronger. During this time he would discover a passion in that of fashion design and gets the chance to explore that. Being that the events of the Reconstruct Project never happened, meant that he actually got the chance to create deep, meaningful connections with others. He would have found love in two people, Hau and Elio (Sun), and they would have a polygamous relationship, eventually getting married. He is safe and more free than he ever thought that he could be. He feels a love thats unconditional, something he didnt think he was worthy of. Finding that happiness can exist for him. -----------------------------------------------

Honestly this is such a neat concept so thank you so much for asking this question. It was actually intriguing to think of what their dreams would have been, and im sure there are more things that could be added, but this is a good general idea. i see the sentiment a lot that nightheart is somehow inherently misogynistic in her writing and such and im verry curious your thoughts on it because. if im being honest i dont see it. like the most common arguments i see are that she has issues with a lot of women in her life and that she was inserted into pov character status purely because the writers "needed a boy"

idk that first statement is kinda ridiculous to me because she has general teenage boy problems and issues with most authority in her life. the people she had problems with in her life specifically were her mom, her mentor, her clans deputy, and her sister. all have some sort of "power" over her, spark squirrel and lily for being authority figures and finch for being a sort of competition for her mothers love and her clans impression of her. Id say its more of a coincidence that the people in power in her life are all girls than a pattern that she damns all women in her life. And i wouldnt say she loves bramble either. bramble gives her one task which gets her excited but after that she doesnt pay much mind to him, even disliking him when he named her flameheart

and the second argument seems kinda ignorant of how publishing works in kids series. Like i think its fair to criticize how its seen as a necessity to have men in important positions but appealing to different genders in kids media is kinda just a part of how publishing goes if you want to appeal to kids (and anyways id say that having a male character not necessarily fit super stock male roles and be an emotional and sort of gnc if you wanna go that far is a good thing) im rambling but i need to see the perspective of people who think nightheart badly written

sorry i didnt get to this ask sooner, i struggle with properly articulating my thoughts into words so i wanted to make sure my response holds up to how i actually feel about this topic

i will preface by clarifying that when people call nighthearts character misogynistic in any way, they are not referring to nightheart as a person within the world that is warrior cats, but rather his role in the story as a character, a Tool used by the authors to guide and drive the plot forward. same goes for the female characters and literally every character in the series. so for this post when i refer to nighthearts misogyny, i am referring to him as a character in a story, not a real person within a real world. below ive attached some bits of other posts that i think communicate this efficiently (first screenshot from a post by skinwrech) (2nd from exocynraku)

with this in mind, we dont think that nightheart "damns all women in their life". it isnt about His views on women or anything like that, its about how the authors choose to treat female characters in relevance to the male characters.

the first argument you bring up, that he's misogynistic because of his problems with the women in his life— im not sure if you saw that word for word somewhere or if thats just what you've gathered from what you've seen, because that isnt necessarily the case. the issue isnt that he has problems with women, the issue is that the female characters in his life are sculpted into whatever the writers need them to be (in nighthearts case, many of them are written as antagonists that create a problem for him in order to gain sympathy points from the readers) in order to drive a favored plot forward. they are used in service to a male character without regards to how this may effect their own plot or pre-established character. ever wonder why sparkpelt, squirrelflight, and finchlight are such out-of-character dicks to him in the beginning of his arc? because the writers Made them like that to serve nighthearts "sad troubled kid" trope. remember sunbeams plot with blazefire and lightleap? the writers seemingly scrapped that as soon as the nightsun fluff arc started. while obviously that plot wasnt going to last the whole arc, it Is something that was taken away from sunbeam and never touched on again purely because she is used in service of nighthearts plot. sunbeam joining thunderclan to be with nightheart isnt the issue, but rather the fact that in order to make this plotline happen the erins erased most of her own arc at the time in favor for nighthearts. i feel like i keep saying the same thing over and over again but they keep Doing it over and over again. the women in nighthearts life are intentionally written to be of service to him. thats the simplest most watered down explanation.

as for the 2nd argument, im probably gonna repeat myself again but the issue isnt necessarily having a male pov. its a Given that publishers want to appeal to different genders in order to sell more efficiently. but when you /favor/ a male character over the female characters to the point of changing said female characters for the male characters benefit, thats when it becomes a problem.

im not sure what more i can really say on the subject without, again, repeating myself but i hope this made sense and helped your understanding of this perspective

i'm ngl my star trek au au is mostly running on vibes wbwbwb so it is pretty kind and happy and warm (i just really like how much everyone in the enterprise's crew has such a respect and care for each other yknow. found family and all that innit).

that being said, here are some funky things about the characters ive been thinking about lately (under a cut because i'm incapable of being concise):

the stars were essentially jack's santa fe. he grew up surrounded by stories of starship captains and space and it became his lifelong dream and ambition to captain a starship, something which he dropped everything to attain. now he is captain of a starship– one of the youngest in starfleet's history– and it's wonderful and fantastic and he's never felt more alive! but there's always something gnawing at the back of his mind (he's based his entire life up until this point around this moment, it was a driving force and a beacon to look up to when times were tough. what if the experience is nothing like his dreams and he ends up disappointed? what happens when the mission's over? what'll become of him?).

also starfleet's assigned him a galaxy-class starship with families onboard and he's having a Time because of it (what if they get hurt under his watch. what if he gives the wrong order and a child dies. starfleet officers know the risks of space travel and are aware of this but the families. the children). other than that he's having a great time !!

kath's half-betazoid on her mother's side, but she never knew her mother nor has she ever been to betazoid (i really went woe! being mixed and only connected to one of your cultures but still being unable to fit in even there because of the fact that you're mixed be upon ye!). she's trying real hard to learn more about betazoid and who her mother is even though she knows she won't really feel like she "belongs" in betazoid either. she's working on understanding and using her empathic/telepathic powers more.

oh also!! pulitzer is a notorious and not-well liked admiral, when kath joined the acedmy she officially had her name changed to plumber and has since told no-one that they're related (this surely won't backfire terribly on her in the future)

also because this is the spot (cat) show, kath loves spot (cat) and wants to babysit her and play with her but alas. she is allergic to cats

race cannot catch a break– he's got a massive losing streak at senior officer poker night, spot (cat) hates him, he can't grow a beard but every time theres an impostor/clone/mirror universe situation the other version of him always has a beard (this is half in jest but also it amuses me wbwb)

jokes aside, i've been having a whole bunch of race as first officer thoughts (and a lot of riker and race parallel thoughts but. that's another story). i don’t really know how to explain it other than the way riker acts in the last episode of tng season two (yes, the riker montage episode) when facing death (joking around and keeping up the appearance of flippancy and courage in the face of agonising death because he’s first officer and there are people who look up to him and he has to set an example) seemed very race and very kony to me, in a way. (youve got this to blame for riker beard race. im not sorry)

race is also one of the first people to advocate for les becoming acting ensign. he makes it very clear that he's in les' corner and makes himself responsible for his studies and sometimes his training (and he teaches him poker).

OH ALSO! sarah and davey didnt know les ws going to be onboard and only found out about his presence after they'd set off. did he sneak onboard?? mayyyybeee (he just really wants to be a starfleet officer). after the initial shock (and notifying their parents) sarah and davey start the Let Les on the Bridge campaign (letting him watch the bridge from the turbolift, helping out in sciences and engineering, etc etc) the that eventually leads to les becoming acting ensign. it reaches a point where most of jack's senior officers would probably mutiny all for this kid.

there's more stuff but i'll stop rambling now because, again, i have a problem with being concise wbwbw. thankyou soso much for the ask rizz once again i love your star trek au so much and am always eager to hear more wbwbw!!! :D

Unless ayaka is released?? maybe in the specific scenario where a snake holder dies BUT the snake gets out of the body, maybe their counterpart inside the daze gets out and both souls die together this time for reals??? erm. idk. seems over complicated and hey why are you looking at me weird. this is normal im not overanalysing.

i know it may seem like im a bit late to the party but the truth is when i saw encanto first getting popular it felt strange.

it felt like i watched a completely different movie ngl and i kept my mouth shut back then because i didnt wanna ruin the fun for everyone else lol

but tbh im pissed off at disney and i cant keep my mouth shut for any longer now.

let me just, get to the point-

Encanto is a terrible movie that fails at the fundamentals of story telling

you see, if u manage to see through the tears and actually pay attention to the plot of the film, it is so b a d

now i'll give them credit where credit is due, they had a really interesting concept and very good ideas

but they executed it so poorly its laughable.

you see, this film isnt a film

its a cash grab on the name of nostalgia and emotions

idk abt other peope but to me, encanto felt very empty. From the way i see it, disney just wanted to make the next frozen with touchy feely themes about family and love and healing and runions but it sort of failed.

the characters in encanto seem extremely shallow. the "development" they get (.i.e. isabella, luisa, abuela etc) dosn't really feel like true development. it seemed extremely artificial and almost felt like an act disney was putting on to fool everyone else into thinking that they're actually good in writing characters. i mean sure, they have distinct personality traits, trauma, backstories and everything a character needs to have depth but what undermines this imo is the plot.

now idk if i just have a taste for suspenseful thriller movies or something but i enjoy a nice touchy feely movie alright (for instance Up) but encanto really lacked the substance it needed for it to truely shine.

Im gonna use Up as an example to explain what i mean

in the beginning of up, in the very first few minutes carl and ellie's characters have light years more personality then mirabel or luisa for example. The plot itself enhances it.

In the beginning of up, its very clear that carl is intorverted and uncertain, he wants more from life. he wants to go on adventures but he needs someone to be there for him. he needs someone to provide certainty and comfort even in chaos.

and ellie does exactly that. Her very first impression on carl and the audience makes it clear that she's very much into adventure and is the sun to carl's moon.

now what about isabella and mirabel?

they uh

have sister....problems...

and...

......

isabellla is a people pleaser i guess?

and what does the plot do to enchance this?

they make the dinner go wrong becuase of bruno's rats and mirabel gets blamed for it so isabella doubles down on her inner flaws???

like i get what they were trying to do with mira and isa's characters and what theme they were going for but it just fell really flat. the writing really failed in making me care about them or their issues. they seem like caricatures of real people who probably exist but they seem very one dimensional and flat.

honestly i think encanto would've been a lot better if it was a show as that would give the writers more time to flesh out these characters and make them loveable.

And this brings me to the most saddening part of this whole thing....

Disney dosn't care

they dont care that their ip would've benefited from being a show instead of a film, or that the final product is trash. All the care about is make touchy feely movies with the same theme and the same messed up message about love and boundaries over and over again with the same highly merchandisable characters that'll have the dolls and dresses flying off of the shelves because that's what it ultimately comes down to.

They don't care because they don't have to

Its simple really. they dont care because they're so absurdly big that it dosnt matter if they keep making terrible movie after terrible movie, uninspired sequel after uninspired sequel (lookin at u, frozen 2) because so many people are attached to the walt disney brand that they'll watch it regardless and buy the terrible quality merch without a second thought for their kids to play with so they can grow up and do the same thing to their kids.

Its tragic that this is what the beautiful medium of animation and film has come down to.

THE PAUSE THING. i get you actually. but for me the pause is almost like stopping time, for both myself and the show? instead of coming out of the show and back to reality, i pause the show but remain in this daydream limbo space where i'm between dreaming and waking. sort of like a dropped brainwave - like when you're lost in thought or creative flow. i don't get up and move around, i just stay still and process. like, my brain is still IN the show but the show isn't moving forward, it's still *in* the previous scene, does that make sense? sort of like i'm in the UD haha! i space out. and i get a bit grumpy if there's distractions around that pull me out of this, its why it's tough to watch with others for shows i love where the vibe has gotta be just right. def watching s5 alone. discussing w friends later is a pleasure, but i can NOT have them chatting over it haha.

also, don't you miss bits if you don't pause? like, miss some things characters have said or what they could mean, because you're trying to take so much in at once? oddly enough, i found all the byler subtext in s4 to be the stuff that leapt out at me most - its usually the military jargon or anything too actiony that causes my attention to drop off. like when the FBI were coming after dr whatever his name is, i had to rewind cos i didnt know what was happening or why it seemed to matter lol. like who the fuck were these military dudes getting all up in our grill? fuck off lol.

so i had to rewind to make sure i understood the plot cos my brain was still doing this 👀 👀 👀😲😲😲😍😍😍 at the fact that MIKE HAD JUST FLIRTED WITH WILL lmao

as for the book, i feel like usually books feel like they have natural places of pause and rest, i mean, that's what the end of a chapter is for, but i can see what you mean about wanting to continue - the author of in memoriam said she wanted people to devour the book in one sitting! so i'm sure youre the ideal audience :) i was hooked throughout for sure, just couldnt physically do it in one - including for silly reasons like... arm ache? it was a heavy hardback book! i can't hold that shit open for like 9 hours lmao! and at some points i was genuinely crying too much to even see haha

I see, I see what you mean with the pause. And I get it. I guess in part that's the positive to home viewing and television, because in the movie theater you can't pause. But it's not like I go a ton, it's still kinda a mindset I have, liking things to just play out. I don't know! I don't know that I thought about it all too much until now. Definitely will "pause" or slow down reading but it's not a bookmark, set the book (or fic) down, walk away pause. Easier to stop with the written word and reflect a moment because I'm setting the pace and actively taking in the work, but film - it's motion, it's active. I'm not gonna stop it if i can't help it. But I do understand the mindset.

I'm definitely going to be watching Stranger Things with my fiance, because of course I am, but I could never do a watch party or anything, no way. Something I really have an interest in could never be that way, people talking over it. I'm more nervous about my emotions watching 5 since I'm soooo invested, he's never seen me that ridiculous over media like this. Watching season 4 was exciting but I didn't have years of fandom investment going into it. At least he's well aware I'm pretty dramatic in much of life, so it's fine.

I do think it'll be a let the episode play through thing and then go back and rewatch for what I missed on first view. If they release all at once I'm for sure gonna miss so much but I will admittedly just play it through with a pause between episodes to either think or discuss stuff but not during, just knowing how I operate. I'll skim and rewind and pause so much more on the repeat viewing as soon as I've observed as much story as they've given. If we get weekly releases? Well there's the biggest pause of all! If that's the format I'll most definitely watch these episodes all twice in a row with the time to dissect every little thing. And I guess that's why most are wishing for weekly rather than binge and I can't decide how I truly want to experience this season.

I did miss soooo much in season 4 the first go through. I think the Nina stuff confused me the most because it kept repeating things and I just didn't get stuff. Can't fully remember now. And stuff I missed because my mind was jumping ahead as I watched to predict oooh what's going on, is this gonna happen, as I'm actively watching. Slow down! Nope, brain barrels forward. And even with that I can't stop or pause to reflect. The motion pictures move along without me.

I decided to read a silent voice tonight because I heard that a lot of content was cut out in the actual film. I already knew about the plot before watching the movie and to be honest, I couldn’t get through the first few minutes where the class essentially shuns and bullies nishimiya (I think that’s her name) because of her disability. I’ve had a hard time watching media depicting this type of subject mostly because something something “I was also bullied in school”. Apart from the bullying part, I feel like ishida speaks to me as a character more than nishimiya would’ve. That part of you that isolated yourself for your past mistakes, feeling a sense of guilt for enjoying the small things in life because of what you’ve done in the past. You don’t know why but you feel like you don’t deserve this feeling of joy. You just wanna leave that part of you behind or go somewhere else where no one knows who you are. I was getting invested as I read on but there was one line that stuck out to me that read me to here. Ishida goes back to his old elementary school (where he bullied nishimiya) to get permission to use the school as a filming location for his friends movie. Throughout the manga, his teacher obviously didn’t like him because of his disruptive behavior but I think when after he’s outed, I’ve noticed something. His teacher doesn’t believe he can change. Why would he? He’s an annoying, disruptive kid who didnt see her as an equal. A toy, a new game to play with his friends. But there’s another detail he’s seemed to miss, or rather choose to ignore. Everyone had a part in nishimiyas bullying. Her class saw her as a setback, a nuisance, an insignificant figure in their lives that they all agreed to be cast aside. They all had a part in it but ishida was the known perpetrator. So when the principal catches wind of the bullying and they asked who did it, the teacher immediately calls out ishida.

When ishida tries to call out everyone else (and rightfully so) they all turn on him. They turned themselves into the victim in nishimiyas place. They never cared about her when she was there and they’re just pretending to because they got caught. After ishida is shunned and receives the same treatment as nishimiya before she transferred, he tells the teacher. But the teacher doesn’t believe him. When he says someone pushed him in the lake he says “You dived in didn’t you. Stop lying and just tell the truth”. If I read this back in middle school, a point in my life where I hated just about every bully character that I would yell at them in real life, hoping they would never have happiness or forgiveness ever again (I was a weird kid shocker I know), I would’ve agreed with the teacher wholeheartedly. But reading it now and becoming more aware that people are capable of change…it hurt. Everyone around him has that same mindset. He did something horrible, unforgivable, therefore he’s incapable of change. But he’s a child. Children do stupid things all the time and I feel like this stigma stuck with him throughout the rest of his life, that’s why he works his ass off to pay out his debt, why he isolates himself because he has that same mindset that no one would ever want to get to know or understand because of what he did as a child. I don’t sympathize with his behavior but implanting the idea that doing something as a child and no one wanting to do anything with you is such a fucked up mindset to put him in. Back to the present where ishida asks the teacher for the filming permits, he sees the change in him and he seems like he recognizes who he is *now* then who he was before. But then he says:

“Well, if you grew into such a fine young man, all that trouble back in sixth grade was a good thing”

It wasn’t a good thing. It was a never a good thing. Imagine starting to overcome your own trauma, trying to better and love yourself, trying to forgive yourself after so many years and then hear that your trauma, the very reason you can’t be happy with, your trauma made you a better person. All those days of harassment, bullying, isolation, and torment was actually good for you because it changed you for the better.
