I'd love to hear the tragic character felps thoughts!

okay echo + anyone else reading this bear with me because i have lots to say and i'm not sure i can get it all down properly. it's worth mentioning my fic "it's not a fashion statement, it's a deathwish" is pretty much directly what i have headcanoned as felps' backstory. but for more detail and breaking things down:

firstly in canon while i think it's accurate to call felps not an active player, he was an active character in the plot. the reason he got kidnapped had a whole lead up to it \o/ one vod's worth (three videos on youtube), but still! he was heavily in character the entire time (even turning his crashing into a character moment--making his character paranoid that he was being watched)

that being said: felps doesn't log in as much. during the vod i mentioned earlier he said his gap was because he was in a mini-coma. i think he sleeps a lot! i've headcanoned him with a fatigue disorder of some kind, and the one month on ice just made it worse. i extrapolated on this idea and decided he'd have difficulty sometimes understanding what was dream and what was reality (i think i got this from narcolepsy? i haven't looked at it in a while but some of the symptoms of that was hallucinations and sleep paralysis I think).

this disconnect from reality was somewhat confirmed in his prison stream \o/ although since i can't pull up the exact quote/timestamp right now don't believe me too much

okay going under the cut now:

one of the "i like dropping that i think felps is a very tragic character" moments i mentioned was if him and pac actually got together, he'd have trouble believing it was real and not a dream. this is extremely self indulgent on the felpac side of things and i'll go back to just felps specifically but: presumably felps has been pining after pac for eight years! i think they're a mess of missed opportunities and both of them being too afraid to try and start anything, so if anything did happen it might not feel real

(the other tragedy is that nothing happens. and he stays pining forever)

back to felps specifically. in my backstory for him i have that he was killed and suddenly revived as a saint in a futuristic (for him) version of his town. this is incredibly alienating for him. he's very very lonely, and confused, and out of place and it's the building blocks for his and cellbit's friendship (as cellbit is also lonely, confused, and out of place). i've had some people mention recently that felps feels out of touch with reality in "it's not a fashion statement" and i'm glad because that was the intention!

first of all, he was dead for many years. second of all, everything is new and different. third of all, he's a saint. it's hard to process

regarding what we specifically see in canon: the "felps has a fatigue disorder" thing was a way to explain why he's away so much. but also… he's a saint. and in the prison stream he leant hard into that. there was no facecam or chat that entire stream. it felt really weird to me because he always has a facecam--or at the very least chat (he went live later on not for qsmp stuff with both). to me it felt like a way to showcase his disconnect from reality and kind of acceptance of his sainthood?

(another post before when i was talking about felps stuff i mentioned a lot of people praying to him is fucking him up a little--i think the more he gets prayed to and accepted as a saint the harder it is for him to grasp onto reality. saints aren't supposed to be alive, after all)

felps has had other occasions of disconnect from reality--he was one of the people to happily play into bad's denial when the eggs were missing. because one of felps' coping mechanisms is actually denial \o/ he doesn't go as full into it as bad, but you see him in other scenarios leaning onto denial. (after the one month on ice + in the prison stream learning how long he was gone for you can see him insisting he was only gone for a day or a few days and getting shocked/upset by the idea he was gone for a month/multiple months)

with felps logging on less, and having enough pieces in canon to explain away why (either he gets lost in his square, or he falls asleep) i think you can do a lot with the idea that sainthood is kind of claiming him and so he's not able to be present in reality anymore. which kind of freaks him out a bit. i said he was lonely in my backstory, and this kind of amplifies that. everyone's been through so much without him. he can't stop falling asleep and not waking up

anyway my final note of rambled felps characterisation is that he's also quite a paranoid character but he's not as loud about it as cellbit is. this is very messy but it's hard to get all my thoughts down about this. hope you enjoyed \o/

Oh damn the stabby man. This has been stored in my head since 2018 and now that we're making canon liquid I'm throwing this into the world: the idea that Jimmy is young

Like during the times we see him, some of the stuff he says/does seems... almost kiddish. Like him saying that "you guys are the colors of skittles" or that he gets frustrated with long chases (as seen in one of the multiplayer slender videos. Watch his facecam)

So you know after CBF ups and leaves Gregory and he gets chased off to the woods? Yeah, what if he died in those woods? It could've been starvation, dehydration, eating poison, whatever - point is: he's dead, and at this point his age is frozen.

It takes years to find someone that can see him (Ghost), and he latches onto him, but because he's been dead for so long, it just... Continues where it left off. So Ghost could be 15 and Jimmy is 7 for example.

It's accepted that Ghost had a shit childhood, so it's possible that it rubbed off on Jimmy to the point of mania. I always thought Ghost was late 20s - early 30s, so at that point Jimmy is like 20-24.

So in this idea, Jimmy acts childish because he is a child, he lacks empathy because he was too young to really learn it, and he’s probably a murderer because… well, whatever drives a seven-year-old in an older person’s body to stab people. Idk why he switched his name from Gregory to Jimmy (probably same reason Ghost changes his name when he’s Gregory), but it does make sense that he might just be a child who doesn’t see that what he’s doing is real, so Jimmy Casket might be a name he used while playing make-believe.

Maybe CBF and Jimmy are siblings or something here, it would be a horrible cycle where one sibling scares the other to their death, and then when they try to reconnect they only find this really messed-up, practically evil spirit left behind. If Jimmy is possessing or latched onto Ghost, it makes sense that CBF might see Ghost as Jimmy, even if they never met before. I could see Jimmy’s memories melding with Ghost’s a lot, making both of them struggle to discern what is real and who experienced what— like Ghost saying he and Toast went somewhere together with Toast’s dad when they were five, even though by my calculations, Toast’s dad was dead by that point.

I know you said that Jimmy would continue aging after being taken in by Ghost, but the idea of him never really maturing or aging because. Y’know, the whole being dead thing, does make stories of trying to deal with Jimmy go from ‘trying to banish this wicked demon who feeds on murder’ to ‘trying to reason with this poor kid who doesn’t understand all the harm he’s doing, and if he does he doesn’t realize why it’s bad yet’. I imaging living in a place where people come back from the dead can really mess with someone’s object permanence about lives.

oh i can answer that too! the eyes are representative of his stream chat! i don't remember how that became the common way to depict them, possibly from his own talking about and to them? he speaks much more directly to his chat/viewers/commenters than many other hermits tend to!

and more recently, it's become even more common due his rapid purchasing of tumblr checkmarks! someone commented on it saying that every time they look he has more of them, and he responded to that with something along the lines of "an angel needs eyes" or something like that, i don't recall the exact wording. so. eyes! you can tell the difference between the origin by the color of the eyes, usually; pre-tumblr-checkmarks they're neon green, and afterwards they're either blue or rainbow colored!

Ultimate Battle Tournament- Why Does The Most Important Tournament Have Elemental Advantages

Personal note- I don’t like the fact that the UBT, the most important tournament, has elemental bias towards haos and against darkus (even if it is specifically to dunk on Marduk and Masquerade.) From any other perspective, it would make sense for the UBT tournament to be an even playing field, to be the normal or extra stage. But nope! It’s the haos arena! Yes, the theme is godly and so is the arena’s appearance, and yes, the arena is opposite to the last arena of the game... but this is the champion-deciding tournament!! So why---

The game gives you a very rough timeframe for when the Haos tournament occurs, even if it’s questionable- all main bakugan have evolved once (Delta, Storm, Angelo/Diablo, Blade, Hammer and Dual). This would put this after the trials of the legendary warriors, and before Drago gets to evolve from the trials (still Delta, and not Ultimate,) but uh... Hydranoid is still Dual Hydranoid... When he should be Alpha Hydranoid after the trials.

This does mean that BBB is very much an AU where Drago and Hydranoid first evolve after battling Apollonir and Exedra respectively, or, the other bakugan evolved before the legendary warriors dealt with them, considering what the brawlers say after the UBT tournament.

Basically BBB isn’t canon compliant here and it annoys me.

Anyway, on with the actual tournament!

Dan said that this tournament involves people from all over the world, but you only get to fight the other battle brawlers, Masquerade and finally Marduk. Either this means that you never got to see anyone else who was actually in the tournament, or the game just wants to make you feel cool (why is Dan surprisingly easy in this whhhh)

The next episode preview ost is used for the pre tournament cutscene

“Everything is riding on this battle, guys!” don’t you mean these battles, and not this battle? You’re not fighting Marduk right away! Minor nitpick, since they are technically at war here.

“Yeah! Whichever one of us makes it to the end of the tournament has to take them down!” Shun’s high pitched (for him) yeah is very cute, but again, he sounds serious to the point of humour. That being said, you can hear him adjusting his gloves while he’s speaking, but you won’t see his gloves move. Despite being on model, Shun looks like his proportions were chibified a lil to be in line with everyone else. This is only visible in cutscenes though.

Julie’s voice is so popular-girl-squeaky that it grates my ears and I wish it was toned down for serious moments, but she’s at least in character?

Everyone yells bakugan brawl when there’s no genuine reason to- you are in a hallway, and there is no battle going on... it’s fine it just looks funny when you notice how serious Marucho and Shun look- those are determined frowns.

Only Runo and Julie mention their evolution, which means that the other brawlers didn’t already know, or at least BBBmc didn’t know, despite being able to see Drago pretty easily.

Marucho does not use Preyas Angelo, which makes this battle a bit easier. I say this because Angelo and Diablo are separate bakugan.

Haos arena is also horrible for anything that isn’t landing straight onto a card- it’s an ice level, but the ice makes you stop rolling as well as make steering harder.

Tigrerra statue roars make the screen go fuzzy. They also throw you up like a hairball if you reach the diamond shaped portals on the sides.

I think it might be the space/nightsky of the haos arena, but Shun’s colour palette looks really good here. His intro animation also looks super good, but I’m blaming the arena for that.

POWER SHOTS ARE BASED ON YOUR SPEED STAT

I’m saying this because Nega power threw a speed 1 bakugan at Storm Skyress, which only did 32 gs of damage.

All of Nega’s bakugan are speed 1 or speed 2, so they’re terrible for power shots.

I’m skipping over a lot of battles, because very little happens in between fights.

That being said, Nega still had his freecam mode active, and so has zoomed out on the haos field and I’m just... wow...

Really thinking that the fields in BBB should’ve been brought back for MS at most... This looks amazing and I want it.

WHY IS THE ARENA SO BIG WHAT

The arena is surrounded by, and I quote, “doom dimension hyperspace”... Vlad just say it’s surrounded by the doom dimension.

They haven’t been to the doom dimension before, apparently, given that Drago actually explains what it is to Dan. If they had been before, then he wouldn’t have explained what was going on.

That being said, being in ball form seemingly makes the doom dimension interact with a bakugan differently to being in full form...

Leonidas can survive in where he was born, unsurprisingly. BBBmc yells at Vlad to back off with the rage of an army.
