Not arguing the main point because I too work because "I have a burning need to eat".

But the second point about fanfic, I find fascinating because it's such a weird idea to me (yes, I know it is a lot of people, the begging for comments things makes that obvious).

Posting a story I have finished is a mental health thing for me almost. A story I finish but never post never shuts up. I go back and poke over and over and over for months, for years. It's not making it better, I just can't let go. Posting it is the trigger that tells my mind it is done, it ain't mine anymore, and I can move TF on. I used to post into LJ and never tag because it was just about getting it out of my head. I'm only moving things (slowly) from LJ to AO3 because I think LJ has to eventually die one of these days and I would like to have someplace to see my own work. I barely tag anything for categorization now (mostly only the required). I don't even have the email that AO3 uses set up to an app, I think I last looked at in two years ago when I had to reset my password and deleted everything else from it. I have read my own fic while moving through a tag and not realized it was mine until I was done.

Unfinished fic is noise cluttering my brain, people commenting with ideas or asking for more *creates more clutter*. If I want attention I get it other ways. In real life. Where I can see the affect.

it’s kind of weird how we’re culturally not supposed to admit that we do things for money and/or attention. Like I’m not going to work because i’m a team player or because I care about the company mission, I’m going so I can pay rent and buy food. I’m not publishing my fanfic because I’m passionate about writing or because I only care about art in its purest form, I’m publishing it because I want attention. If I didn’t want attention, I’d leave it on my hard drive. Really, why are we supposed to pretend to have “better” motivations?

Honestly despite my feelings about how the last arc of MHA went down I really love Deku and his story.

I just feel like a lot of the time we get these protagonists whose whole philosophy is it doesn’t matter what you were born as everyone can achieve greatness. But then the series goes on and it turns out that actually it DOES matter because the protagonist has this really great lineage and these really great powers you can only have through birth they were actually born born, predestined if you will, to do this.

But MHA actually sticks to its guns. Midoriya wasn’t revealed to have some great connection to all might that the universe had put in place. He wasn’t defended from some great lineage that makes him uniquely suited to this. Hell All for one didn’t even turn out to be his father, there was no hidden powerful quirk he was always meant to have. He was just Midoriya Izuku a boy who was in the right place at the right time and simply decided to act while the world did nothing. And that’s what really made him a hero.

I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but I believe him a bit more when he goes anybody can be a hero if you just decide to act

for those who are slightly confused, this is for 'my' modern human au! well. modern-ish!

okay so when they were in freshman year / 9th grade, Barnaby and Wally are soldily Bonded. they are a set, do not separate. they receive a lot of shit for this, because some kids are assholes and that's especially true for 14yr olds. and it's 2006. so Wally and Barnaby get teased/bullied a lot for their closeness. at this point they're kind of used to it. they met early in 7th grade and have been inseparable ever since. most of it slides off of them

but what is Barnaby was having an especially stressful week? one of those weeks were everything is going wrong, nothing is working out. so Barn is at the end of his rope, and then one of the main kids who likes to bother them insults Wally specifically, and badly. like it's some next level So Bad Its Almost Impressive shit. at present Barnaby is walking to his next class with Wally and Poppy. so Barnaby just kind of stops in place, mentally chooses violence, turns, walks up to the kid, and punches him as hard as he can. it knocked the bully out instantly and broke his jaw.

and keep in mind that at this point in time, Barnaby isn't the big strong guy he is later on. he hasn't had his main growth spurt yet. and he still packed enough of a punch to do Damage - which makes him even more intimidating when he Does hit his growth spurt and towers over practically everyone

the pros of this event: Frank and Julie were watching, and Frank respected Barnaby's response so much that he allowed Julie to bring him to hang out with the growing friend group at lunch / asshole kids were less inclined to insult Wally and Barnaby (or his friends) to their faces

cons: Eddie was also watching and was too scared of Barnaby for the rest of their school career to try and talk to him or his friends / Barnaby nearly got expelled but did get suspended, and that's a permanent mark on his record

so the kid goes down, everyone freaks out. Barnaby is still too angry to feel anything other than pissed off vindication. naturally higher Authorities (teachers) come to get the unconscious student to the (i almost said vet) nurse's office, and to bring Barnaby to the principle's office. they call Ms. Beagle and have her come pick him up. Wally has stuck like glue to Barnaby pretty much the whole time, except for when Barnaby was in the office to get chewed out / interrogated. when Ms. Beagle is done w/ her conversation with the principle, she takes Barnaby and Wally home.

there, Barnaby is still worked up, and as "punishment" Ms. Beagle has him do some menial tasks alongside his usual after school chores. Wally tags along, of course, and asks why the hell Barnaby did that. in a nicer Wally way of asking. this is what breaks the camels back. Barnaby just sits down and starts crying, to which Wally is like "oh no. oh fuck. what do i do." cue a solid minute of him just standing and staring in panic before awkwardly sitting next to Barnaby in solidarity.

when they go inside, Ms. Beagle already has Barnaby's favorite dinner whipped up and ready. She gives him a talk where she's essentially says "blah blah blah violence isn't the answer. however, good job for standing up to that kid. he's an asshole and deserved a good wallop." (listen im a firm believer in ms beagle having been a Wild Youth that would have thrown bricks at cops). Moods are lightened, they have a good dinner. The next day or so they need to go have a meeting with the Injured Kid's parents. that's when they find out Barnaby fully broke the kids jaw (he feels a little bad for that) and that the parents are pushing for his expulsion and also juvie. Ms. Beagle manages to whittle down the sentence to a long suspension and then detention for the rest of the year, as well as her paying the kid's hospital bill.

tl;dr Barnaby punches a kid for insulting Wally, gets a new friend out of it, nearly gets expelled, and gains a mostly unfounded Reputation that dissuades most from outright messing with him or his pals

It feels unlikely given the way you structure the series but it would be SO funny to me if Willow properly stumbled into their not too long before the dying basilisk situation and for whatever reason happened to Be There.

Like imagine you're a bitter anarchist young adult who's been reluctantly drawn into the web of the entirely too kind Empress and you still really don't trust her or her overly aggressive bodyguard, and then you all stumble into a dying basilisk, a creature that you narrowly avoided being killed by at school that one time and then the Emperor's Coven carted them away and they were clearly terrified.

And then you react first, of course you do, why would the Empress and her stooge care about a member of what your research since you dropped out suggests is an extinct species (and you figure the Empire probably is the reason they aren't and not for anything good). Of course, what you don't know so that the Empress is only slower to react because of her extremely pertinent to this bizarre situation PTSD, and it's a moot point because she does arrive at your side a moment later.

Having presumably never gotten a coven mark, you know some healing magic, but not enough for a situation like this, and it's all you can do to buy the basilisk a minute at a time—and then the Empress calls her mom??? The human one????? And you write her off as useless right now because what help is human going to be here but then the human offers VERY specific guidance that helps you save the basilisk's life.

So now you know that 1. The Empress knows her human mom, 2. The Empress' mom knows exactly how to save a basilisk's life, 3. The Empress is genuinely as compassionate as she seems and oh now that you're able to think about it that complete loss of composure seems REALLY out of character for her; did this strike some sort of personal note?

Now for all her cleverness, I don't think Willow is the sort to be able to extrapolate anything beyond that given her limited knowledge of Luz's life compared to someone like Raine, but! I think it's possible Luz in her panic could let things slip about the Grimwalkers still.

On the one hand, Willow is an unknown who Luz doesn't trust yet and normally Luz is good at secrets.

On the other hand, Grimwalkers are possibly the only thing where Luz is LESS likely to tell Hunter than she would a whole lot of other people she knows, AND we've seen with Eda that Luz gets a lot worse at compartmentalizing information when she's Doing Rough which. Damn she sure is doing rough here, isn't she?

one of those fun little traits that endlessly humor me about writing miranda but that i dont really get to talk about is that shes a reverse monsterfucker. and shes REALLY obvious about it once you notice it.

like shes out here just talking like all the monsterfuckers do but its specifically about humans. their hands are so soft, so small, so dexterious and light... their skin is so soft, so smooth. they are covered in fuzz and hair and have such an excellent mane right up on top of their heads that makes them look so proud and noble. they curve so excellently, all supple and with so many excellent handholds to keep them close. they are even self-heated! they feel so warm all of the time! perfect for cuddles, perfect for holding close, they let you know all of their little parting touches and make it so obvious every time they do touch you!!

honestly, to miranda humans are like... a luxury good. like thats the association in her mind, between the feeling of our hair and skin, and the way that it is skin and presses inwards to provide cushioning, and are warmed, and fit perfectly against her. shes like someone getting flustered for a werepanther. its really very cute.

Trying to hold H:SR Kaeya's hands, if gloveless, will be an uncomfortable experience.

Unfortunately for the lovers of this trope, at worst the experience is akin to holding something straight out of a freezer- the cold peak worsens after a prolonged use of his power and without a dip into the Misty Sea- or at least a small soak in the water he carries with him, coming exactly from that place. By this point, the blue-ish hue has started to bleed down his knuckles, and the cold will seep through his gloves. Despite the alarming temperature, it's worth noting that his skin is smooth and pleasing to touch, with a few old scars on the back of his hand to explore. The phenomenon also stops at his hands- any other part of Kaeya is free to hold, and has a normal temperature.

Needless to say, Kaeya's gloves are thick and temperature resistant specifically to keep his situation from worsening further. Holding hands with him skin on skin is not possible unless someone has mastered a certaint endurance to frosty temperatures, and/or has no specific nerves in their hands that feel the effect of his condition.

Hand-holding is a kind of intimacy that he's just too considerate of the other person to entertain himself with.

first of all i can explain skin color change - in lore people of Nox's clan, so the moon clan, have pale skin due to being active at night only, thus not needing much melanin to protect from sun. But them and sun clan originally come from same people and same lands, so if this to be removed moon clan's skin would be darker
