Rewatching 5x01 & realizing again that Grant Smith was literally a raging abusive POS that was STALKING & harassing Stella! And despite her tough exterior, she must have been terrified when she saw that he was in her apartment. Then to turn around as she's working & see that man standing there knife in hand as he proceeded to belittle & berate her. Idc what he says, Grant had all intention of doing harm to Stella that night had Kelly not intervened. And yall, that's not even the saddest part of this story. What's sadder is that Stella said that she probably wouldn't have made it out of her teens if it wasn't for Grant. Therefore, that means her adolescent/teenage years had to have been 100x worse because she convinced herself that Grants behavior & how he treated her was better than what she experienced as a kid/teen. She believed that the way he behaved was his way of showing her love or affection. That's why she tolerated the abuse for so long. Think about it if she met Grant in her teens & we're assuming Stella was 21+ in S5, then that was YEARS of conditioning. Then, after watching her facial expressions in 5x02, when the cop asked her if he'd done this before, Grant absolutely had been abusive to her. Oh, i fear Stella NEVER knew what true love, care & affection was until she stepped foot into Firehouse 51. 🥹

Broken Promises, Rekindled Flames
Request: Ok, we damn love hot Kelly Severide… but would we also like something angsty ? 😊
I had an idea where she’s his girlfriend, also a paramedic at 51, but someday they get in a bad fight and he saying things he immediately regrets, so she leaves his apartment without saying any more. The next day she doesn’t show up at work, which is unusual for her and neither can get you on the phone. Just then, 51 gets called to a bad looking car accident and they have to find out that was your car being recklessly destroyed and Kelly’s heart breaks as he fears you being no longer alive and he can never make it up what he said?
But of course they get a happy ending 😊
Pairings: Kelly Severide x Paramedic!Rhodes!Reader
Warnings: angst, fluff, cursing, asshole!Kelly, mentions of cheating done by Kelly but no actual cheating is done, secrets, car crash, inaccurate medical talk
Masterlist
There were some things that you had told your boyfriend of 4 years, Kelly Severide, secrets that he promised not to tell or bring up in a fight. In turn he told you secrets and you promised the same thing. You never wanted to hurt each other but he took it too far that night the day before your guy’s shift at firehouse 51. Now you were semi-conscious sitting at the bottom of a bank praying and hoping someone would come. You thought about calling your older brother, Connor Rhodes, but he was busy saving lives in the hospital.
The fight didn’t come on suddenly, no, it built up for a week before it came to light, he was coming home late and being secretive. He had his reasons and very good reasons, this reason would be because he was planning the perfect surprise proposal and that had him running around ragged and made him stressed and in turn made you stressed because you didn't know what he was up to for all you knew he could be cheating on you, you wouldn't put it past him especially with his dating history. As you sit there in your car being crushed by the collapsed metal and losing blood somewhere the fight replayed in your head and that brought tears to your eyes and they slowly ran down your face. You so desperately wanted to call Kelly and tell him you were sorry but you couldn’t find your phone and you couldn’t move. “I’m sorry.” You whispered as if he could hear you and as you started to close your eyes the fight came into view so you just watched.
*********************
The blaring alarm was what woke you up on a Thursday morning. You groggily opened your eyes and reached over to turn it off. You were at home with your boyfriend Kelly both having just come off a 3 day shift and then going back in two days usually it would be longer time off but things were different due to the holiday coming up. Once the alarm was off you turned over and brought your hand to his side expecting to find a warm toned body but instead you met cold sheets and you frowned. Now you were more awake. You got up throwing on a sweatshirt, that happened to be Kelly's, and walked out of the room and into the hallway. Soft talking could be heard and at first you thought it was TV but the more you listened the more it started to sound like Kelly and a woman? You walked into the kitchen and the floor must've creaked because he was looking up “I gotta go. I'll see you tomorrow.” He hurriedly said into the computer screen and hung up. Your heart sank, was he cheating on you? “Hey, Baby.” He said as he got up and hurriedly closed the computer. You let him hug you but you didn't return it.
“Who was that?” You asked as he released you and he walked into the kitchen to start coffee.
“Oh that was nobody important. She was just helping with something.” He said and there was that word ‘she’ unshed tears burned your eyes.
“Oh.” You said as your mind started to race.
“Want a cup?” He asked holding it out to you and you shook your head.
“No, thank you. I'm going to go for a run.” You said and turned back to head back to the bedroom to get ready. He didn't get a chance to reply, he just looked at you confused, you never refused your favorite coffee.
You got ready for your run and walked back into the kitchen and he was nowhere to be found. The computer was open and you got curious. You walked over and Skype was open so you looked at who called last. A woman's name of Contessa Wents was the last call your heart sank but it sank even more when you read the messages.
Her face is going to priceless. I can't wait to see it!
Contessa: It's going to be great! It just fills me with joy at imagining it.
You couldn't bear to read the rest. Those two messages confirmed your fear. You quickly grabbed your Bluetooth headphones and put them in and music started playing. You rushed out the door as tears started well in your eyes. Kelly had gone down to grab the mail and was making his way down the hallway to the apartment when you passed him. “Hey, enjoy your run.” He said but you just sped past him not being able to hear him but he didn't know you had headphones in. He frowned and grew concerned. Last night was great and he couldn't think of anything that would've put you in a foul mood. The Skype call didn't mean anything, it was to his friend's wife who was a jeweler and he was picking out a ring with the help of her.
You got outside and stretched and then you were taking off. As you ran tears started to fall now that you had time and space to think about it. When you got to the park you sat on a bench, you put your elbows on your knees and covered your face. How could you've been so stupid? You knew he had a past. You knew he had flings. You knew how he was. You thought he had changed but apparently not. You don't know how long you were sitting there crying until your tears ran out. You still had your music in so you didn't hear your lifelong best friend and brother walk up to you calling you until you felt him shake your shoulder and you were ripping an earbud out and looking up. “Con?” You asked sniffling eyes puffy and red tear tracks running down your cheeks.
“It's me. What's wrong?” Your older brother asked.
“I think Kelly is cheating on me.” You said and here comes a fresh round of tears.
“I'm gonna kill him.” He said and you shook your head.
“No, please don't. It may not be true but all signs are there.” You said and he sat down next to you on the bench and you leaned into him. “Why are you here anyways?” You asked.
“I was out for a walk.” He said and you nodded and sniffled. You don't know how long you sat there with your brother on the bench talking, laughing and just having a bonding moment. Soon you both had to leave. He left first and then you got up and turned to the direction of home and took off to finish your run.
When you got back into your apartment Kelly was rushing off the couch and running to you taking you in his arms and you looked at him confused. You took out your earbuds and pushed him off. “Oh thank goodness. You're home.” He said and relief was evident on his face.
“Yea, I'm home. I ran into Connor at the park. We hung out and talked.” You said “Why do you care?” You asked.
“Why do I care? I care because I love you. You were gone for 3 hrs. You're never gone that long for a run.” He said
“Sorry I was clearing my head.” You said moving to make your way into the bedroom to shower and change into some relaxing clothing for the day. You both had three days off since you had been three days on. He had followed you into the bedroom and you started to undress and you really didn't care because it's not the first time he's seen you naked.
“Is everything alright?” He asked and you wanted to scoff. How could he ask that when he knew he was cheating on you? It would be better if he just came out and said it instead of stringing you along. You need to keep calm and not escalate things until you know for sure but your minds have been made up.
“Everything is fine. I just needed to clear my head of some things.” You said and left it at that and walked into the bathroom shutting the door in his face. You turned on the water and let the tears flow. You heard his footsteps leave and the bedroom door shut and then you let out a sob. How much more of this heartbreak can you take?
When your shower was done and you had changed you felt much better. You walked into the kitchen freshly showered in jeans and your favorite shirt and hoodie. “Do you want to go out for lunch?” Kelly asked and you looked up at him.
“Sure.” You said and he smiled and came over and kissed you.
“If you're ready. I'm ready.” He said and you smiled and nodded. Maybe if you can just get the idea of him cheating out of your mind then everything will be ok.
“I'm ready.” You said smiling and he smiled back.
“There's my girl.” He said and then the two of you headed out the apartment. As you walked out of the apartment and to his Jeep. Everything that had happened this morning was pushed to the back of your mind.
“So, where are we going?” You ask, curious and feeling like your old self. Feeling back to your guy's old ways.
“It's a surprise.” He said as he opened the door and helped you in even though you didn't need it. You smiled a toothy grin and he smirked looking at you. “What?” He asked.
“Is this to our favorite spot?” You asked
“I'm not telling you.” He said “You'll find out soon.” He said and you chuckled. The Jeep ride there was smooth and easy; it wasn't filled with tension like the morning had been. You both laughed and joked with each as the music played in the background. You looked around your surroundings and they started to become familiar, well everything was familiar but this was going to your favorite deli/bakery.
“Are we going where I think we're going?” You asked but he just smiled and that gave it all away.
“You know it is.” He said and you shrieked as he pulled into the parking lot and parked the Jeep. He got out and shut the door and then came over and opened your door and helped you out. When you were on the ground he put his arm around your shoulders and pulled you into his side and you cuddled into him. It was a cold day, probably a record cold for Chicago so he was trying to keep you as warm as possible.
He led you to the table and made sure you were seated before he went up and ordered. He already knew what you wanted and that made you smile and all those thoughts of him cheating melted away. He was quick to come back with drinks and sat down in front of you. The two of you leaned close to each other laughing and having a good time together like you were two lovesick teenagers. The only time you pulled apart was when the food came and the two of you ate. Once lunch was down he was grabbing your tray while you grabbed your things and followed him to the trash. Then the two of you were headed home.
The next day you woke up to a warm arm wrapped around your middle and warm breath hitting your neck. You smiled and turned over to take in and memorize the handsome face of your boyfriend. “Staring is rude.” He said in a voice that was filled with sleep. He cracked open his eyes and you were instantly lost in the blue.
“I'm just trying to memorize the face of my handsome boyfriend.” You said
“You have everyday to memorize it.” He said, chuckling.
“You never know.” You said shrugging. He leaned up and kissed your forehead. You could lay there all day if you wanted but you needed to get things done before leaving again. Both of you laid there for another 30 minutes before you both were getting up and starting the day. The two of you decided to stay in for the day just wanting to be with each other. So you spent most of the day lounging on the couch watching cringey firefighter TV shows and eating. That quickly changed around 6 PM when his phone started ringing and as he pulled it out you caught the name on it. Contessa. Your stomach dropped and suddenly you felt nauseous. He answered it and he had the nerve to sit by you while he talked. He was smiling and chuckling and as all this went on you just seemed to get sicker and sicker. When the call was over he put his phone back and turned to you.
“I have to go. I'll be back soon.” He said and then he was getting up kissing you on the lips but you didn't kiss back. You watched him put on his shoes and coat and then he was walking out the apartment. You sat there in total silence. Too stunned to speak and afraid to move. You turned back to the show but not really paying attention to it. You don't know how long you were sitting there but your phone buzzed. You grabbed it out of the pocket of Kelly's hoodie and saw it was a text from Jay Halstead, your best friend and your brother's coworker's brother, it was a picture.
Jay Halstead: I think Kelly might be cheating on you. I just Kelly and some woman in a jewelry store. They're bent over looking at rings. They're pretty close to each other. (Picture attached)
You just stared at the picture. So it was true. Kelly was cheating on you and he was clearly serious about this woman because he was in a jewelry store with her. Tears sprang to your eyes and they started to fall. Another text from Jay popped up.
Jay Halstead: Are you ok?
You didn't know how to answer that.
Idk
Jay Halstead: Hailey and I are on our way over.
He responded back pretty quickly and true to his word there was a knock on the door and you were getting up to answer it. Hailey instantly pulled you into a hug and the tears started to fall steadily. “Oh honey.” She said
“He's really cheating on me? He's buying her a ring.” You said as they ushered you to the couch where they sat down. Hailey on the side of you and Jay sitting on the coffee table in front of you.
“We don't know that for sure. I said I think he is.” Jay said
“The evidence is pretty damning Jay.” You said as you looked at him with tears running down your cheeks.
“Let's not jump to conclusions. He may have been helping a friend with some shopping or it could've been the jeweler.” Hailey said, rubbing your arm.
“If it was the jeweler then she would be on the other side of the counter. They also wouldn't be that close either.” You said followed by a sniffle as you put your head in your hands. Hailey and Jay looked at each other because they knew you were right. The couple stayed with you for a few hours and let you rant and rave until you cried all your tears and then they were leaving after saying you would be alright on your own.
10 PM rolled around and Kelly had yet to show up and more tears fell. You both promised that the two of you wouldn't cheat or keep secrets, your last relationship ended up with him keeping a secret of him being married with kids and that he was cheating on his wife with you. He had the audacity to actually propose to you. You only found out he was married because you ran into his wife and kids at the park. You broke the engagement off right then and there. The next week he was coming to you crying saying his wife was divorcing him, which she did. You and the wife actually became friends.
6 AM rolled around when he finally showed up. You had cried yourself to sleep around 11 PM on the couch, you had to go into work at 7 AM. The shutting of the front door had woken you up and you set up. “Kels, that you?” You asked.
“Yea it's me. Sorry I'm late. I had to go and talk to Herrmann about something at the bar and got carried away.” He said shedding his coat and kicking off his shoes.
“A phone call or text would've been nice.” You said now standing up and walking over to him.
“I thought I didn't text you.” He said as he pulled his phone out but there set the text unsent. “I never pressed send. I'm sorry.” He said and looked up at you. He walked over to you and kissed you but you didn't kiss back and then the smell of perfume hit you and you grew angry. “Are you ok?” He asked. Should you say something now? Should you wait? Maybe you should wait.
“Are you cheating on me?” You asked, there it was. It was now out in the open. He looked at you with his eyebrows cocked.
“What? No! Why would you ask that?” He asked, taking a step back.
“I saw your Skype messages from Contessa and her name pop up when you got a phone call. Jay saw you and a woman, who I'm assuming is Contessa, in a jewelry store.” You said and you watched his face fall and grow pale. You pulled your phone out and showed him the picture.
“Baby, it's not what you think it is. She's married.” He said and that just added fuel to the fire.
“You're cheating on me with a married woman? You're going to marry her?” You asked in disbelief.
“What? No no no no. She was helping me find a ring.” He said but everything said was going through one ear and out the other.
“A ring for her.” You said as you pushed past him and started to pull on your shoes, coat, and grab your purse. Kelly was starting to panic.
“Where are you going?” He asked, watching you.
“I'm going to stay with my brother. I know he won't cheat on me.” You said
“For the 100th time I'm not cheating on you! But maybe now I'm thinking I should've.” He said and you froze.
“What?” You asked
“You're so fucking insecure it's overwhelming. You're not fucking listening to me. You're so damn clingy I can't even stay out late without spiraling out of control.” He said, throwing his hands up. You flinched and froze looking at him. The boyfriend before the one that was married used to be abusive to you and point out all the things that you seemed to do wrong. He didn’t really mean what he was saying but he was so mad that you weren’t listening and he was just caught up in the moment. Tears were falling down your face. “I mean come one Y/N you’re not listening to me right now. You never listen to me, you always care about yourself. Do you even care about me?” He asked.
You said nothing as you turned around and grabbed your keys to your Jeep and opened the door and slammed it shut. Kelly stood there and watched. He watched your face fall and you shrink into yourself and then he knew that he just fucked up.
“I just fucked everything up. FUCK!” He screamed and grabbed the closest thing which happened to be a picture frame of you two and threw it across the room into the wall. It shattered to the ground, broken glass everywhere. You would come back and you two would talk about everything and settle everything at least he hoped but boy how wrong he was.
**
As you got into your Jeep snow was starting to come down at a fast pace and it was covering the road and everything quickly but you didn’t even care. You hopped in and started it, the engine sputtered a couple of times but it finally turned over. Maybe your Jeep was trying to tell you something or maybe you were hoping Kelly would come out but the last hope didn’t happen as your engine turned over and it started. You quickly threw into gear and sped off your Jeep swerved but it straightened up and headed off. You were speeding but you didn’t care, you just wanted to get away from him and to your brother, you knew he would comfort you and be on your side.
You were approaching a stoplight and as you started to slow down you started to slide and your brakes were locking up and that scared the shit out of you. “No no no no. Please no.” You said to yourself you did stop but your front end was over the line. You sighed in relief but the truck behind was just a tad bit unluckier than you. They tried to stop but they ended up rear ending you hard. So hard that your head came forward and hit the steering wheel and their truck pushed you into the middle of the intersection and since you had no traction because of rapidly falling snow you slid into oncoming traffic where a car hit you straight on glass shattered and then a truck was hitting your side of the car pushing you sideways. You just happened to look at the clock and knew that Kelly would be heading into work but you just hoped that he would get to you sooner. Your Jeep started to smoke as it came to a stop but it ended up on the very edge of the road and just a push would be sending you down to the riverbank. You just had never been lucky enough to have things go your way as the snow piled on top of your Jeep it added more weight and you could feel your Jeep tipping. “I’m sorry.” You said out loud to nobody in particular but it was meant for Kelly and you were hoping he could hear it somehow as your Jeep fell. It jostled you around and glass shattered and everything cut you everywhere a particularly large piece stabbed you in the chest close to your heart and you cried out. Once the rolling stopped you were breathing ragged and you could feel the cold hitting you from the broken windows and windshield. You could feel the blood rushing out every little cut. You tried to make a quick assessment of yourself but each time you moved sent you closer to the darkness.
The engine of your Jeep was smoking more and you could smell the gasoline and just one spark could send the entire vehicle up in smoke. Right now you just wanted everything to end and give into the darkness. Part of you hoped that everything blew up and part of you didn’t. You were in so much pain that you didn’t know what to think or wanted. Breathing hurt and each breath sent you closer to the edge. When you tried to move is what finally did you in and everything turned black and you gave into the darkness.
*********************
Kelly didn’t get much sleep, too worried about you and wondering where you were. He texted Connor asking if you were there but he answered that you weren’t that sent panic down him. He may have gotten maybe 30 minutes of sleep before he was getting up and getting ready for both of your guy’s shifts. He sighed sadly when he realized you weren’t beside him, he grabbed his bag and then he grabbed your bag and he started off into work. The snow was still falling and they had yet to come and scrape the road but he knew to be careful and knew that your Jeep and his Jeep was meant for this type of weather.
When he got to the station he frowned when he didn’t see your Jeep. He knew you liked to get to work early and get some extra sleep or get breakfast in. He parked his Jeep and grabbed both bags and walked into the station. Everyone greeted him and he greeted them back and looked around for you but you were nowhere in sight. “Has Y/N come in?” He asked the closest member who happened to be your best friend, Stella Kidd.
“No, I haven't heard a word from her and haven’t seen her this morning. Tried calling her but she never picked up.” She said and he frowned and nodded and then headed to where the bunks were and put yours and his bag down on a bed. You dug through his bag and felt around until he felt the velvet box hit his fingers. He pulled it out and opened and there sat a beautiful diamond ring glistening in the light from the room.
“Where are you, Y/N/N? I’m worried about you.” He whispered to himself as he looked down at the ring with sad eyes. He stared at it until the bells were ringing for every emergency vehicle and he was hurriedly shutting it and putting it in a pocket that zipped up knowing it would be safe there. He was quick to get out and get his gear on and then to the Rescue Squad 3 truck. “What are we heading into?” He asked, trying to get into work headspace as they pulled up to the scene.
“Looks like a multi-car collision. A car was rear ended and pushed and then hit straight on. Then hit and pushed over the bank. It’s probably covered in snow by now so it'll be a search and uncover.” Joe Cruz said.
“Did they say what the other car was?” Tony Ferraris asked as he parked and turned the sirens off but not the lights.
“An olive green Jeep.” Joe said and Kelly’s heart dropped to his stomach because that was your Jeep. He hadn’t said a word as Wallace Boden gave out orders. Other stations were called in to help but Rescue Squad 3 was to work on your Jeep that had rolled down the bank. All of them along with Stella and Gabriela Dawson went with them. As they descended the bank smoke was seen and gasoline could be smelt. Despite the snow being on top of it, the snow was melting where the engine was. Kelly was in a panic as he took in the sight of your car. The Jeep was upside down on the roof, glass was everywhere and the frame was beyond recognizable.
“Shit. Let’s get her out of there carefully and do not let that glass more or lodge further.” Kelly said hoping the shakiness in his voice wasn’t noticeable to the others and either they didn’t pay attention to it or they didn’t hear but they started to get to work. As the orders were given out and they started to work on getting the snow removed and when they did they could see you laying there unconscious and barely breathing.
First they started to get the excess snow off and then Kelly was laying down to see you. He took you in and then his eyes stopped on the glass sticking out of your chest and he saw it was right next to your heart, one move or one more centimeter over and it could be in your heart. “How is she looking?” Stella asked and he shook his head and looked up at her.
“Not good. There is a piece of glass in her chest close to her heart, one jostle and it could move and go into her heart.” He said
“Fuck, alright let’s carefully get her out and to Med. We need to call her brother and let him know and warn him.” She said and not directing the last part to him more so at someone else that had come down. Kelly focused his attention on you and put two fingers on your neck and felt for anything and it took a minute and that scared him to find a pulse.
“She barely has a pulse.” Kelly shouted out.
“Ok, let’s get moving.” Stella said and that is what they did. They got the door off and then Kelly was awkwardly twisted to put the neck brace on you and not once did you move or give any sign of life.
“Don’t leave me, please.” He pleaded as they carefully got you out and on a backboard. “I need something to stabilize this glass.” He shouted and then he was being handed tape and some rolls of gauze. Everything being shouted was drowned out to him, his focus was on you.
“I’ll help.” Joe said and he nodded and moved a little so he could get in and help. “She’s going to be ok.” He said.
“I hope so.” Kelly said as they finished stabilizing the glass.
“How is she?” Boden asked after he came down to see.
“Not good.” Kelly said and he was about to say something else but you started to gurgle and blood started to sputter out of your mouth and run down the corner of it and it caught everyone’s attention.
“Move her now!” He ordered and everyone nodded and they rushed you up the hill carefully but hurriedly. When they reached the top a gurney was already there and they put you on it and rushed you to the ambulance. Kelly got in the back with you as Stella got in the front and they were off, sirens blaring.
“How close are we?” Kelly asked
“20 seconds out.” Stella said
“Damn she was close to the hospital.” Kelly murmured to himself and he helped Gabby the best he could. They finally got you hooked up to the monitor but as soon as they did you started to flatline. She was quick to awkwardly start CPR.
“Fuck.” Gabby said as they pulled into the ER section of the hospital and as the doors opened several nurses, Will Halstead, Crockett Marcel, and your brother Connor was there. Gabby started to rattled off everything that they assessed. She still was doing CPR as they rolled you in.
“Baghdad.” Is all that Maggie Lockwood said and that is where they wheeled you to and they started to work on you. Kelly had stood outside and watched and Connor wasn’t allowed to be in there since you were family.
“What the fuck did you do?” Connor asked as he turned to Kelly.
“It was a stupid fight.” Kelly whispered
“What did you say?” He asked
“I told her some things that I shouldn’t. I degraded her and made her feel small. It was my fucking fault. I wasn’t cheating on her. I was asking for help to pick out a ring for her. I was gonna have us take a couple of days off to go up to a special place and I was going to propose to her.” Kelly said and Connor was still fuming but he didn’t say anything.
“You better hope and pray that she makes it out of here alive. For your sake.” Connor said and walked away knowing he couldn’t stay there because he couldn't help and he had patients to tend to. Kelly’s focus was back on the scene in front of him. They had gotten your heart beating again but you were still in critical condition. They were quick to move you to an OR and they told him what they were doing and now he had to painfully wait to hear if you made it or not. As he was directed to the waiting room he took out the ring and opened it and stared down at it. He was so stupid for saying those things to you and now he doesn’t know if you were going to make it and that scared him.
It seemed like forever but it was only 6 hours before Connor and Marcel were walking towards him and he looked up. As he looked up he saw that the rest of the firehouse had come as well but he was too focused on the ring and you. “She’s alive but she is in critical condition. She had a collapsed lung and it was filled with blood. The piece of glass was secured but a piece did knick her heart which caused it to stop. She also had some major cuts from glass and we removed all the glass. She’s not totally in the clear but she’s stabilized as of right now. We sedated her and it may take some time for her to wake up. Months even.” Marcel said and everyone nodded and Kelly was silent. “Connor will take you to see her.” He added directing it towards Kelly and he nodded and started to follow Connor to your room.
“She’s going to pull through.” Connor said as they both stopped at your room. “She’s a strong woman and she loves you too much to leave you.” He added and Kelly nodded and then he was leaving as he gave Kelly a pat on the shoulder. Kelly just stood there too scared that if he moved then you would be gone. Finally he moved into the room he walked in and sat down on one of the uncomfortable plastic blue chairs.
“I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have said any of those things because I don’t even mean them or think that. Please don’t leave me. I wasn’t cheating. I was getting help to pick out a ring for you. I want to marry you and start a family with you. I want everything with you. Please, please come back to me. I love you.” He said
Seconds passed and nothing happened. Minutes passed and the same thing. Hours and nothing changed. Hours turned into days. Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. You have yet to wake up. It was a serious crash and they had to sedate you to let everything heal. Kelly didn’t want you to leave you one second but he was forced to. Each free second he had he was back with you.
2 months passed and you finally started to show signs of waking up. Kelly had just gotten there when the machine started to go off and nurses, Marcel, and your brother ran to your room. He arrived there to see you awake and looking around confused and talking to your brother and everyone else and then you spotted him and smiled and that made his heart skip a beat. Once everything was settled and everyone was out of the way besides Connor he walked in. “Kels.” You whispered and he smiled.
“I’ll give you some time alone. I’m so glad you’re awake sis. You made us worried.” Connor said as he patted your knee and leaned up and kissed your forehead and then left. As he walked past Kelly he stopped and Kelly looked at him. “Tell her and ask her.” He said and Kelly knew what he was talking about. He walked out and now it was just you and Kelly.
“I’m sorry.” You both began and you both chuckled but you winced and as he tried to help you waved him off.
“Can I go first?” Kelly asked and you nodded. “I’m sorry for making you think I was cheating on you. I would never in a million years cheat on you. I was getting help from a friend’s wife to pick out a ring for you. I want everything with you. I want kids with you. I want to grow old with you. I didn’t mean anything I said to you and I don’t think any of it. I would never cause harm to you. I’m so sorry. I love you. Please forgive me.” He said and you smiled and nodded.
“I forgive you. Now it’s my turn. Hopefully I can get everything out before I run out of breath.” You said taking a breath “I'm sorry for not trusting you. It’s just when you started to say those things it just brought me back to previous relationships. I know you didn’t mean any of those things and I know you would never hurt me.” You said running out of breath and you paused and took some breaths and continued. “I want everything with you too. I love you, Kels. I love you so much. I’m sorry that I thought you were cheating on me. Can you forgive me?” You asked.
“I will always forgive you.” He said
“You have a ring?” You asked and he smiled and pulled it out and you took it.
“This is not how I wanted to propose but I can’t go another minute without you being my soon to be wife. So Y/N Rhodes will you do me the honor of making me the happiest man on earth and marry me?” He asked and tears ran down your cheeks as you nodded and you smiled.
“A thousand times yes. I want everything with you.” You said and he took the box and took the ring out and slid it on your finger. He leaned up and kissed you and then hugged you.
“Thank you for coming back to me.” He whispered and you smiled and hugged him back with what strength you had.
“I will always come back to you. I never want to leave you again.” You said
“I love you.” He said
“I love you too.” You replied as Connor came into the room and saw the scene and the two of you pulled away.
“I take it you took my advice and asked her.” He said, smiling smugly. You then showed him the ring “Congratulations you two.” He said as he took your hand to look at your ring.
“Thank you.” You both said. He stayed for a few minutes and the three of you talked and laughed and then he was being called away. Now it was just you and Kelly. As the two of you sat there together talking about anything and everything you couldn’t wait to start your life with him. This is what you both wanted. You both couldn’t wait to get started on the rest of your lives together.

Last resort | Leslie Shay
Pairing: Leslie Shay x Firefighter!Reader Reader pronouns used: she/her Summary: Chief Boden orders everyone to evacuate the building, will you follow his orders when you hear a baby crying? Masterlist | Chicago Fire masterlist | Words: 2.1K
It had been a quiet day at 51, you were playing cards with the rest of squad 3 when the alarms went off, signaling all units to move to an apartment fire. You jumped up and ran to the truck, kicking your shoes off and stepping into your boots. You pulled the pants up, the suspenders over your shoulders, and hopped in your seat. Squad was the first to pull out of the firehouse. Severide taps away on his tablet, “Okay, squad, listen up. The fire is fully evolved. We’ll be the first company on scene, let’s work quickly. When we’re on scene we have to move fast. Let’s wait on Bodens orders, y/l/n you’re with Cruz, Tony with Capp, and Mills you’re with me. Do you copy?” You all let him know that you copy him and mentally prepare for the call you’re about to have.
When you arrive at the scene you can immediately tell that it’s bad. “Alright, people, let’s go to work.” Boden says over the radio. “Truck 81, primary search on the first floor, Squad 3 you take the second and third. Engine, I want a line on the first floor and raise the aerial in case it’s needed. Ambulance 61, set up triage. Let’s go, people.” You look to Kelly to hear which floor you have to go to. “Cruz, y/l/n, second floor. The rest with me to the third.”
Once arrived on the second floor, you and Cruz go door to door. The fire has already reached this floor too, so you have to kick in all the doors to check for people that might’ve passed out from the smoke. Cruz takes the north wall and you take the south of the massive hallway. You kick in another door and yell, “Fire department, call out.” Into the room. You hear a man call out, “Over here.” They hid in the bathroom. You help them stand up and walk them back to the stairwell. They seemed to be doing fine, so you urged them to walk down by themselves, making sure to tell them to get checked out at triage. When you walk back you see Cruz helped an elderly woman to the stairs as well. “Need a hand?” You ask. He shakes his hand, “No, keep going, I’ve got this one.” So, you do, door after door, you search the room. A lot of the apartments are empty already, people that weren’t home or that walked downstairs at the first sign of something wrong, you were glad there weren’t a lot of people because the smoke started to get thicker and the flames bigger. Cruz was already back kicking in doors as well, when you heard Boden’s voice over the radio. “Attention all units, five more minutes and then I want everybody out.” You look over at the many doors you have yet to check and speed up your pace.
It hadn’t even been five minutes yet when the next order came over the radio. “Attention all units, I’m calling it. Everybody out!” You hate leaving all these rooms unchecked, but you knew that Boden was right, the fire was strong. You followed Cruz towards the stairs when you heard a faint cry that stopped you in your tracks. When you heard it again, it sounded like a little kid. You had to make a decision, follow orders, or try to save the child. Against your better judgment you turn around and take off in the direction of the cries, leaving Cruz behind. The crying gets louder the further that you walk down the hallway, meaning that you are getting closer.
Cruz walks out the door and takes his mask off to take a deep breath. He sees the rest of 51 standing behind Boden, all looking in his direction. Boden is quick to speak up, “Cruz, where is y/l/n?” Cruz looks around thinking you were right behind him this whole time. “She was right behind me.” He says in disbelief, already putting his mask back on. “Cruz, stand down. I can’t let anyone back in.” He reaches for his radio. “Y/l/n, report. I want you out of this building, right now.” You hear his request on the radio, but ignore it as you’re kicking in the door that you hear the crying coming from. The fire has already made it through the ceiling of the living room, you crouch down making your way over to the crying. When you reach an open bedroom door you find the crying baby. He was lying in the arms of a woman laying on the floor. You quickly check for a pulse, you’re relieved when you feel a regular heartbeat, she must have passed out from all the smoke that was filling the room. “Y/l/n, report.” You hear over the radio again, worry now present in his voice. You don’t have time to respond as you hear a voice coming from underneath the bed. “Is mommy okay?” You look under and find a girl who can’t be more than three years old. Your heart sinks, how were you going to get all three of them out, with the fire getting stronger and stronger. Setting aside your worries, you pull her out from under the bed. “Mommy is okay, the smoke just made her really sleepy, that’s all.” You take the young girl by the hand and pick up the baby, to move them to the bathroom where you’d all have some more room to breathe. “I’m going to get your mommy now. I will be right back, I promise.” You sit down next to the mom, feeling her pulse once again. Still a steady heartbeat. You reach for your radio. “Chief.” You take a deep breath before speaking again. “Chief, is Leslie with you?” Chief Boden ushers Shay closer. “She’s standing next to me. What's going on?” Shay shares a worried look with him. “Leslie, baby, are you there?” You hear her respond with a shaky voice. “Yes, the line is open, you’re scaring me, what’s going on?” - “I love you so much, but I have to try. I just wanted to let you know that I love you, in case I..” She interrupts you, “Don’t say it, you come back to me okay. I love you, please come back to me.” It breaks your heart to hear her like this. “I’ll try my best, I promise.”
You grab the bedsheet and drag the mom towards the bathroom where you left the kids. Once inside you take off your mask. The little girl is crying, you take off your glove and wipe away the tears. “I know it’s scary, but I’m here to help. My name is y/n, what about you?” Between sobs she tells you that her name is Mila. “Okay, Mila, let’s get you all out of here.” You take off your oxygen tank and your coat, before you turn the water on in the bath, drowning the bedsheets. “Mila, honey, come here. I’m going to wrap this around you, okay? And then I want you to climb on my back.” The girl nods. You were trying to create some sort of carrier with the sheet that would hold both Mila and her little brother, so that your hands were free for their mom.” Once you had Mila attached to your back, you picked up the baby and wrapped him to your front. “I’m going to put my coat back over you okay, I want you to be very still and hold on to me, okay honey?” You button up the coat so that both the kids are safe from the fire. With the remaining part of the bedding you wrap up the mom’s body, making sure that she has some kind of protection from the flames before you pick her up and take one last breath of oxygen from your mask, since you had to leave it behind.
The fire had spread through more parts of the apartment, but there was no going back now. You went around as much fire as possible and jumped through the ones you couldn’t go around. To your surprise you made it to the stairs. You hold the mom close as you decent, quick but careful. The smoke was really starting to get to you, but you couldn’t stop, you made a promise to Mila and you intend on keeping it.
Outside the team was watching the building, hoping and praying that you would walk out of the door. They didn’t believe their eyes when they saw you exit the building, everyone running your way. Kelly takes the woman out of your arms and lays her down on the stretcher from one of the paramedics. You fall to your knees from coughing so much. Leslie sits down with you trying to calm down your breathing, while Cruz tries to help you up, but you push him off. Between coughs you manage to say, “The kids.” - “We can’t go back in, y/l/n. It’s too dangerous.” You shake your head and open your coat, revealing the improvised baby carrier. You shake off your coat to reveal a second child. Once your teammates take the kids from you to get checked out. Dawson is by your side with an oxygen mask, you eagerly put it over your face and take some deep breaths. “You scared me so much, please never do that again.” Leslie says hugging you tight.
Chief Boden steps your way. “You did good, y/l/n.” He says. “Get yourself checked out at the hospital, you took in a lot of smoke.” You nod in agreement. Dawson steps up to Boden, “Can Shay and I take her? I know Shay won’t want to leave her side right now.” Boden agrees to let them take you and will let dispatch know that ambulance 61 is out of order for the time being.
The doctors do some tests, they all go well and you are cleared to start duty right away. Dawson drives the ambulance back to the firehouse where your teammates gather as soon as they hear you pull up. You step out of the back with Leslie, as soon as they see you they’re all relieved to see you’re doing so well. “I’m all good, don’t worry guys.” You walk up to the Chief. “I got cleared for duty, Sir. I did have to leave some of my gear behind, though.” Boden nods, “We’ve got some spare tanks and masks, don’t worry about it. Glad to have you back.” Once Boden walks away you turn your attention back to the team, they all give you a hug or pat on the back. Luckily the rest of the day was slow, just a couple small calls, so you were able to catch your breath a bit more.
After a night of uninterrupted sleep, you join the team for breakfast. Mills cooked, and it was delicious as always. Boden ordered an inventory check on all the vehicles, so that’s where you headed next. You were crouched down checking equipment when you heard people walking outside. “Mommy, I see her!” You turn around at the familiar voice. Mila comes running up to you and jumps into your arms. “Hi Mila.” You hug her tight, seeing them here meant so much. Since another ambulance company treated them, you didn’t know how they were doing. Mila lets go after a while remembering something. “We made you cookies.” You smile at the little girl, you had only seen her scared on the scene, which made seeing her so cheerful now even more happy. She pulls you over to her mom who was talking with Leslie and Chief Boden. “Hi, I’m y/n, nice to meet you.” You say extending your hand. Instead of shaking your hand she goes in for a hug. “I’m sorry.” She says while stepping back. “Shaking your hand didn’t seem enough, you saved my life.” She looks down at her kids and adds, “Their lives. I owe you everything.” You smile at her, “No need to apologize, and of course, I was just doing my job.” The woman shakes her head, “Everyone that I have talked to has said that you went above and beyond for us. So, thank you. Thank you so much.” Hearing back from the people that you saved was so special. Knowing that you’re the reason they are able to stand right in front of you. “Do you have some time to stick around? I would love to show Mila the trucks, if she’d like.” Mila was already nodding her head enthusiastically, “Please, Mommy.”
Your girlfriend was watching you in awe as you posed for pictures with Mila on your lap behind the steering wheel of the Squad truck. While Chief Boden was proudly watching you interact with the family that you saved.

Getting out of the Uber car I walked inside the firehouse 51 small door since the larger vehicle doors were shut most likely until they received a call for an emergency they needed to attend to. Seeing the back doors of the ambulance were hung opened and I saw some familiar blonde hair moving around. “Sylvie Brett!”
“Yeah that’s me. Can I help you – Mallory, what are you doing here?” She glanced over her shoulder sending me a huge friendly grin on her face.
I stopped walking when I was standing outside the doors with a hand on my hip. I was wearing my old Army jacket that I hadn’t felt like wearing after the day I returned home. “I have a few hours before Will comes and picks me up, so I figured I’d come and hang with you. “
“Awe that’s cool. Although I gotta say that today has been pretty slow. But I do have some good news for you. My boss told me when you come into his office he has an application available for you at the ready.”
“How about right now. I’m free for a little bit.” I suggested hopefully.
She nodded gesturing her head toward an office door. We walked inside the building turning a few corners until we stood outside an office that read Chief on the door. “Chief Boden, I’d like to introduce Mallory Easton. She’s the former Army k-9 officer I have been telling you about.” She lead me inside where I saw a tall black man wearing a white shirt sitting in a desk chair.
“It’s nice to meet you, chief Boden.” I extended my hand to the man causing him to rise from his chair.
He shakes my hand firmly. “Nice to meet you, Ms. Easton. Brett has told me quite about what you did in your friends building. You saved her life.”
“I wasn’t sure if the clot would hold. I just remember seeing some pretty bad wounds when I was deployed. Just followed my basic instincts.” I shrugged my shoulders in response.
“Well, it was very impressive. And that is one of the reasons I am considering hiring you to be on my team.”
I shake my head still making point that he needed to understand regardless if they both wanted me to work here in this fire department. “I appreciate the opportunity. Truly I do. But I don’t have the experience of a paramedic or a firefighter. I know I can take the course to learn but would you mind that I’d be having to learn everything and be on the team at the same time.”
“If you’re considering taking the job you can start taking the courses now. Once you’ve gotten through them you’ll have a job waiting here in a few months.” He explained leaning his back against his desk. “The fact that you are a former Army vet will boost your credibility to get through the programs.”
I parted my mouth open processing if I took the opportunity or not. In all honesty I was spending most of the time when Will was at work by myself. Maxon’s company could only do so much considering he couldn’t talk back. Being in this department would be a good distraction and I could help people that I couldn’t necessarily do when I was deployed overseas. “Fill out the application information for paramedic training and I’ll be seeing you soon.”
“Thank you so much, Chief Boden.” I smiled shaking his hand again before Brett and I exited his office and back outside to the trucks.
Brett paused in her steps hugging me before saying a word back. “I can’t believe you’re going to be working here.”
“Woah slow down, Brett. I’m not anywhere near completely getting the job yet.”
She breaks the hug and I sent her a smile. “I’m just excited for you is all. I’m not worried about you getting to work here. You’ll do fine given the injuries and situations you’ve been through.”
“Thanks for having high confidence in me.” I responded before a car horn started going off and I saw a familiar black car driving up to the open double doors. I knew I recognized the vehicle but wasn’t entirely sure till the driver door opened and auburn hair came into my view with that cheeky grin. “Will!”
He shut the door coming over to us. “Mal. Sylvie.”
“What are you doing here. I thought you didn’t get off work until 5. It’s 3:50.”
He shoved his hands in the jacket he wore over his red hospital scrubs. “Natalie agreed she’d take on the rest of my shift for me. Plus I knew I wanted to surprise you.”
“Awe.”
Brett chimed in. “Hey if you need somebody to watch your dog for the evening I’d totally be open for it.”
“That would be great. Thanks, Sylvie.” I hugged her back too as a thank you.
Will held out his hand for me knowing we both needed to change clothes before going on our first date tonight. “Are you ready to go then, Mallory?”
“Yep.” Placing my hand in his we started walking back to the car. “We’ll drop Maxon off here!”
Sylvie grinned calling back to us. “Treat my girl right, Dr. Halstead!” She watched us drive away from the firehouse feeling excited just like the both of us were about the upcoming evening.
5:30 rolled around by the time we had gotten back to our apartment building and changed clothes. I had slipped on some black leggings underneath a short orange shirt that fell almost down to my knees. Will was in some jeans, a green short sleeve shirt with a black jacket thrown over it.
“So where are actually going now. You haven’t told me a single thing about the plans.” I asked as we made the drive further into downtown once we had left Maxon with Sylvie.
Will had one hand on the steering wheel when he glanced over at me in the passenger seat. “If I told you what we were doing it would ruin the surprise.”
“You are terrible at keeping secrets around me.”
He scoffed with a chuckle. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Mallory.”
“The first night Maxon and I spent in your apartment you attempted to blame Maxon for eating the last of the Oreo’s even though dogs can’t have chocolate.” I sent him a glare knowing I was right. “When in reality you felt guilty that you did it and fessed up telling me the truth two seconds later.”
He rolled his eyes recalling the moment. “That is completely different. This time I want this to be a surprise so you’ll just have to wait.”
The drive didn’t last too much longer before he parked the car outside of a restaurant I hadn’t been to before. He came around helping me out of the car so we walked inside arms linked with one another. The hostess led us to the nearest booth where we sat across from each other. “The waitress should be with you shortly.”
“I can’t believe you brought me here. I wasn’t expecting you taking me someplace like this. I thought you’d be taking me to Molly’s for drinks and dinner.” I chuckled picking up the menu seeing that they had pretty much everything on there you could think of getting.
Will picked up his own menu looking it over. “We can go to Molly’s another time if you want. But I’d thought since this is our first official date it should be something a little more special.”
“What can I get you two to drink tonight?” The waitress with her brown hair tied up in a bun while carrying a notepad in her hands.
Will and I responded at the same time. “Angry Orchard.” I snorted a laugh out seeing a huge grin get plastered across his face.
“Okay, I’ll be back to take your orders.” The waitress slowly walked away with her eyes lingering on my best friend and I watched her sway her hips back and forth trying to seduce him making me gag at the thought.
Focusing back on the menu I saw that they had a Mac and cheeseburger that sounds pretty good. I knew we were at a somewhat fancy restaurant but they still had it listed on the menu so I should give it a try. “What are you gonna get, Will?”
“I’m not really that picky. We can split something if you wanted to.”
The waitress came back taking out a pen. “What can I get you tonight?”
“I’ll have a Mac and cheeseburger with fries. Oh uh – were gonna share that.” I handed her back the menu and she scribbled something down walking away. She came back a few minutes with two plates in her hands sitting it down in front of me.
Will cut the burger in half and we both silently ate. I take a few more bites before I saw some of the cheese coming out from under the bun and the next thing I felt was Will’s hand brushing against the tip of my nose. “You got something right there, Mal. There you go I’ve got it.”
“I guess you can’t take me anywhere, Halstead.” I chuckled watching him lick the cheese off his thumb.
We finished eating the burger and fries with him paying the bill where I thought we were about to go home for the evening yet that wasn’t accurate. We drove for a few minutes until I recognized the parking lot and building we were pulling up to. “Will, why are we at the hospital?” I asked shifting around in the passenger seat.
“I wanna show you something and don’t worry I’m allowed to take visitors in.” He unbuckled his seatbelt getting out first and I followed him towards the front sliding doors of the hospital emergency room.
We walked into the building going directly to the elevators. He hit the button that said up and then the one that was labeled roof. I kept trying to figure out what he was wanting to show me that was up there. The elevator doors slid open where I started to step out yet he covered my eyes with his hands causing me to laugh. “Will Halstead, what are you doing. If you want me to see whatever is up here, you gotta remove your hands.”
“You’ll see what I want to show you in a second.” He responded slowly walking the both of us forward out of the elevator.
I chuckled holding my hands out feeling my fingers touch the edge of a metal railing. “Don’t you dare let me fall over the edge of this thing.”
“I’d never let that happen. Now open your eyes in three, two, one.” He lowered his hands where I blinked my eyes a couple of times seeing all the building lights at the ground. From how high we were off the ground everything looked so small from here.
I dropped my mouth open twirling around on my feet seeing my best friend flashing me a huge grin on his face. “This is amazing. I’ve never seen the city from this high above before from the time I have been living here.”
“I’m glad you like it, Mallory. My boss pointed out to me that you could see the whole city from up here and maybe share some drinks. Like I told you earlier I really wanted this to be super special cause you’re special to me, Mallory Easton.” Will closed the gap pressing our chests together wrapping his arms around my waist, nuzzling his nose down onto mine.
I giggled nuzzling my nose back with his own, wrapping my arms around his neck. “You sure know how to show a girl a good time. And you’re special to me too.” Leaning up on my toes I captured his lips with mine, threading my right hand into his ginger curls. He leans closer deepening the kiss enjoying the moment.
Unknown to us my phone was vibrating in my purse that he had set down on the table near where we were standing. The caller was someone I wasn’t expecting to hear from since I had returned home.

Bad Habits are hard to break
@stubbornismymiddlename
Bad habits are hard to break.
Habits; the old ones you believe you blocked out, the ones you felt you had let go of. Sam Carver was the one that did the saving, the one that deep inside felt like he was drowning. He was the savior; his brother; the screw up that his life altered having to pick up the pieces. A shell of a back was who Sam was; he worked his ass off through the academy, and somehow it didn’t feel enough. He spent his first few years in the force, the CFD where he bounced around. He kept one duffle of clothing he never fully shopped to create a home in the apartment he lived in. Because why put in the effort when you knew it was only temporarily.
That was until he landed at house 51. The vibe was different, you felt welcomed at home. Not to mention he recognized a familiar face; Stella Kidd now lieutenant. Was he envious of her? Yeah she worked her ass up and she become someone we all were proud of, but Sam knew the brief time period he had a little crush. Was it because she saved his ass? You know one of those hero moments where you life blinked before your eyes and she was the one that tugged me out of near death. She was married; and something told Sam he’d get a beat down if that husband of hers found out. But it was a crush, she wasn’t why he found himself running from the one place he felt like home.
It was his fling with Violet which never quite felt like a fling it felt deep and intimate. It was easy; I didn’t want to be another guy she lost. A person she cared about that she now had to say goodbye to. Sam cared about her; may even be worth to say crazy in love. Our time together was special, I wanted to be the best version of myself with her. And for a while I felt like I was okay, I was on the firm and narrow, even repairing my current apartment, because I planned on staying. But that last call before I went on for low kept slipping through my head. The bad parent; the aggressively brother; I felt like my world came crashing down, the protective nature; the boy who was obviously terrified of his family was me. And I reacted; I put hands on a civilian, I went nuts; and looking back Sam knows he should’ve handled himself different, his bad habits are hard to break. But he felt powerless again, he left the firehouse in defeat; he said the words he harbored inside of him for weeks. I love you; when Violet wasn’t prepared remotely ready to hear it. But in the heat of the moment I felt i had to be clear. The shock, the slight hint of tears in her eyes was the last memory I had of her.
The persistent aching that never left my chest now, and its been two months since I left Chicago. Sam had a countless number of missed phone calls from Stella, from Violet well Violet called once a week and when I would automatically send it to voicemail I think she got the hint I had no interest in being chewed out again. So she only sent messages that said “ Sam.. are you okay?” And I fought the urges to reply, but I couldn’t not until I figured myself out. Those two months Carver found himself in Milwaukee. He wasn’t working as a firefighter; he was doing construction, repairs in houses; on the loadwork of construction sites. He knew why he reacted; he remembered the countless number of times his dad came at him, he was the only physical thing standing between his brother and dad; the scars that shattered his body. But owning up to his mistakes felt like a hurdle of its own. Sam wasn’t ready. He had his tool bag in hand, and he was just walking into his small apartment, when he felt the persistent vibrations from his phone, and brows pushed together as he dropped his bag and closed the front door. He didn’t even look at the chicago number; he just pressed green and answered. “ Hello Tom.” Assuming it was his boss he just left the jobsite now. “ Carver get your ass back here.”
Stella? I asked myself before I could make a lame excuse now she went on and continued.. “ I know you’re a little messed up right now, we all are. And I know I went off that day, we had to look at the image of the CFD but the water is brushed under, I’m worried about you, come home.” A plead in her voice, I could hear movement in the back a whisper from Severide about “You got hold of him.” And I know I’d be dodging every call from Chicago, this was pure luck now. The male sighed as I uttered. “ I don’t know, I’m sure you filled my spot Kidd.” And she was quick to add “ No, it’s yours you never said you weren’t coming back, I held it for you. You messed up, but it shouldn’t define the future you have here. See you soon.” She aired out noting I probably wasn’t going to give a straight answer now. THe male let the line go dead, as he marched into his small living room. Dropping himself down to the couch; a little lumpy, as he thought about it.
Home; the people the family I made, falling in love for real. A home I shattered; and now I was living under a rock of protection from myself; how many bad habits would follow me? Where is my heart and head?

As you woke up, you became aware of the arm drape over your waist and a chest pressed against your back. Blearily, you opened your eyes, squinting at piercing sunlight. You let out a yawn, then smiled when you felt kisses being planted on your bare shoulder.
Your boyfriend snuggled himself further into you. “Good morning,” Sam greeted, his voice still gruff from sleep.
You hummed, closing your eyes in peace. “Good morning,” you replied softly.
The two of you laid together for a couple of minutes. Knowing you had to get ready for shift, you moved to get up. Or attempted, as Sam tightened his hold, preventing you from moving.
“We're gonna be late if we lay here,” you remarked, chuckling at his actions.
“Not if we shower together, save some water and time,” Sam suggested with a smirk.
You turned in his arms to face him with a glint in your eye. “Oh you'd like that, huh?”
Sam nodded solemnly, “I would like that very much, if it means keeping you in my arms longer,” he whispered before kissing you.
An idea came to you making you smile in the kiss. You let your hands fall onto Sam's chest, deepening the kiss. This made your boyfriend's guard drop and subsequently relax his hold on you. Taking advantage, you quickly pulled away and rolled out of bed.
“Better get moving, hot shot,” you teased, giving your stunned boyfriend a triumphant smile before heading to the bathroom to get ready.

“Truck 81, Engine 51, Ambulance 61. Multi-vehicle accident, Roosevelt and Racine.”
Hearing alarm blaring and dispatchers' announcement, you raced out to the apparatus floor with the rest of the crew. You hopped into 81 with your gear and got yourself ready as you all rolled out of the firehouse.
Approaching the intersection, you exited 81 and awaited instructions from your lieutenant. The accident involved a boat stuck on the top of a car with two other cars strewn in the distance, no doubt from the main impact.
An injured man approached, with Herrmann catching him as he wobbled on his feet.
“It's my fault. It's all my fault. I tried to make a right turn from the center lane. It's just so stupid. I cut that guy off,” he ranted, pointing over to an SUV. “He clipped the trailer. The boat came loose and landed on this poor lady. Then that one, it bounced off her,” he finished, pointing at a Sudan in the distance.
“Let's get you checked out,” Herrmann interrupted calmly, gently pulling the man with him to Brett and Mikami.
“Alright. L/N, check the Sudan. Carver, go check on that SUV,” Kidd ordered.
“Copy that,” you stated with a firm nod. You rushed over to the Sudan's driver window to see a disoriented middle-aged woman.
“You okay, ma'am?” You asked softly, not wanting to alarm her any further than she probably already was.
“My ears are ringing,” she answered nervously, her body shaking from adrenaline.
“That's okay, that's from the airbag. It'll go away, I promise. Are you hurt anyplace else?” You questioned, your eyes searching to see any other apparent injuries. She had some minor bruises and cuts but seemed to be in good shape.
“I don't know. I'm... I'm... I'm shaking,” the woman stumbled. You saw her breath start to quicken and intervened.
“It's okay, all right? Take a deep breath,” you instructed, demonstrating with her.
The woman took a couple of deep breaths and gave you a small smile. “There you go. The worst part's over. I'm gonna get you out of here, and you're gonna feel a whole lot better,” you reassured.
Using your halligan, you pried open the car door and gently unbuckled the woman. Knowing a second ambo would be on the way, you staked out a secure place to situate the woman. Spotting a bench nearby just around her car, you helped her there.
“You’re doing great, almost there,” you encouraged, supporting her weight as she leaned heavily on you.
“Oh, thank you. I've never been so afraid in my life,” she said breathlessly.
“Well you're doing amazing right now,” you praised, keeping her spirit up as you helped her sit.
“The paramedics will be with you shortly, okay Ma'am,” you stated before turning to go back and help your crew.
You stopped as the woman caught your wrist. “What's your name?” She asked.
“Y/N,” you answered kindly.
“Y/N, thank you so much,” the woman replied, now grasping one of your hands.
You froze in confusion as she began ripping your glove off. “Uh Ma'am…”
“Ms. Doreen, I'm a medium, and you must let me repay you with a reading,” Ms Doreen inserted, tracing a finger along your palm.
You shifted uncomfortably, wanting to have your hand back to yourself. “Ah, that's okay, ma'am. You really don't need to do this-”
“Y/N listen to me,” Ms. Doreen interrupted seriously, making you stop. Your nerves grew as she gazed up at you with sadness.
“You are going to experience great pain very soon. I am so sorry,” she informed gravely, frowning sympathetically.
Alarmed, you quickly ripped your hand away. What the hell did she mean, great pain? “I, uh, I need to get back to work,” you mumbled, not even giving the woman a second glance as you walked away.
Pushing her ominous words aside, you pulled yourself together and reported back to your lieutenant. Kidd saw you approaching and asked, “Hey, how's that lady doing, okay?”
You nodded, cautiously looking in the direction of the medium. “Yeah she's okay. Uninjured, minus being shaken up.” And more importantly, crazy but you didn't voice that.
“Good. And what about the SUV?” Kidd asked Carver. Snapping your gaze away from Ms Doreen and onto your boyfriend, you listened to his report.
“I guess there was one occupant, but he fled the scene,” Carver answered with a huff of disbelief.
“Fled why?” you questioned, brows knitted in confusion.
“The accident wasn't his fault,” Kidd added to your point. “Why run if you aren't guilty?”
Carver shrugged, “No idea. The boat guy said he grabbed a big duffel out of the back and took off without a word,” he informed. Or maybe this guy was guilty of something else.
Having the same line of thought, Kidd looked over her shoulder to Mouch and asked, “Hey, we got a cop on scene?”
“Rolled up a couple minutes ago,” he answered.
“Good. Send him my way,” Kidd instructed before she walked over to the empty SUV to inspect it.
Once your jobs were finished on scene, Truck and Engine returned back to 51. The whole duration of the trip, you were quiet, staring blankly out the window. Ms. Doreen's words kept echoing in your mind.
“Hey, good run?” Cruz asked your crew as you walked past squads table
“Boat accident on Roosevelt,” Mouch informed, receiving surprised expressions from squad.
“Yeah, be glad you didn't get called out. A lot of bad vibes on that one,” you added, almost shuddering.
“What do you mean? Cruz inquired, one brow raised curiously.
“I helped out this weird palm reader, and instead of just stopping at thanks, she decides it's a good idea to tell me my future sucks,” you ranted dramatically, throwing your hands in the air.
“Back up. You let her read your palm in the middle of the call?” Mouch interrupted. That made you gawk.
You spun around to him with an offensive glare. “She didn't exactly give me a choice, Mouch! Before I could process anything, she was feeling up my palm!” You defended.
It seemed your obvious distress was amusing to everyone, which made you angry.
“What's next after seeing psychics, L/N, meditation, rituals?” Capp teased, with Tony laughing at the remark.
“It's not funny. What she said was awful,” you stated seriously, glaring at them.
“What'd she say?” Gallo asked, a small amused smile on his face.
“Well, she said... You're gonna feel great pain very soon," you recounted, closing your eyes. A shiver ran down your spine.
Your crew members all frowned. “Yeah, that's kinda creepy,” Cruz agreed. Finally, someone who agrees with you!
You gestured to him, exclaiming, “Right? Who says to somebody they just met?”
“I think you can safely ignore any prophecies from a lady with a 'basic witch' bumper sticker,” Ritter cut in, making you sigh.
“I'm not saying I believe her, just that it was awful,” you announced. You weren't one to believe in mystic voodoo crap, and that wasn't gonna change now because of Ms Doreen…it's just taking you some time to get over her ominous words.
Needing a moment of privacy with your own thoughts and away from any future teasing, you decided to take a shower. The warm water brought a sense of comfort as you closed your eyes in relief.
A pair of arms suddenly wrapped around you, making you jump. You let out a gasp and craned your neck to see your boyfriend. “Give a girl a warning next time, will ya?”
“No can do sweetheart, besides that was payback for your little stunt this morning,” Sam laughed, spinning you around to face him.
You hooked your arms around his neck, smirking. “Oh yeah?”
Sam leaned in and captured you into a kiss. When you two separated, he asked lowly, “What's this I'm hearing about a psychic?”
You sighed frustratedly, leaning your forehead onto his. “It's nothing,” you dismissed.
Sam quirked a brow. “Is it? Talk to me, sweetheart,” he prodded.
You faltered. “I..I don't know, babe. I know what she said was total nonsense…but I just can't shake this bad feeling that something might be coming. Something bad.”
You felt silly for saying it, but this bad omen, truthful or not, was putting you on edge, and Sam noticed. He had to say something to make you feel better.
“You want my advice?” Sam asked seriously.
“Always,” you mumbled.
“I think you should try and forget about it and not let it eat you up. If something happens, we'll deal with it together. How's that sound?” Your boyfriend proposed.
Without replying, you nodded and buried yourself further into him. You giggled as you felt Sam pressing kisses on your wet body.
He then pushed you up against the shower wall with a lustful glint in his eyes. “Now, where did we leave off this morning, hm?” Your laugh was cut off by his lips smashing onto yours. You clutched onto his back and hooked one leg over his for support. Trust your boyfriend to always lift your mood.

DON'T BLAME ME || 6 || Jay Halstead x Teddy Rhodes

Chapter Synopsis: When a fire scene causes the power to go out in the area, Jay worries about Thea's safety while Thea worries about everyone else's.
Chapter Warnings: Mentions of attempted murder; mention of a beating; brief description of a vehicular accident; spousal worries/concern for partner's life; split-second allusion to suicidal ideation; Elli's speech STILL fluctuates. Read ahead at your own risk.
Author's Note: I forgot to change up the chapter warnings for chapter five upon posting, so you can see what was planned for that chapter and later scrapped.
Jay
Usually when we finished with a case, we'd all go home. I'd give Brooke a lift home while she called her roommate to let her know she was on her way, and to see if she wanted something to eat. Usually I'd be planning to get comfortable in sweats and a tank, or just sweats sometimes, and call Thea when I got home. Elizabeth would stay at Brooke's until Kelly finished his shift and picked her up.
Usually, I wouldn't be in the bullpen by now and wanting to be throwing my computer over Hawkins' and Lindsay's heads and out the window.
"Someone's missing his wife," Ruzek teased, a knowing smirk on his face.
Brooke laughed beside me. "She's probably thinking he's dead." I looked at her, and she shoved her phone into my hand. She knew my phone died half an hour ago, but I didn't think to bring my charger to work this morning and I had to let it die. "Call her, Halstead. She might not be losing her mind, but she'd still be expecting a phone call. Even if you're not shirtless."
"You've been calling your wife shirtless while she's in shift?" Ruzek teased, as I slipped into the break room to call my wife. Zero-three-two-one. Elizabeth's birthday was easy to remember when it was her aunt and your best friend's pin for her phone.
"Theodosia Rhodes; I can't come to the phone, so just leave a message. If it's CFD related, call Firehouse 51. If it's Dolan Rhodes related, call my store manager." Given she likely wouldn't check her voicemail for a week anyway, I sent her a text to call me on Brooke's number when she got the chance.
As soon as I hit send, the lights started to flicker and everything turned off.
"Ruzek, what did you touch?"
"Nothing!"
"Uh huh."
I gave Brooke back her phone as I sat back at my desk. I felt everyone but Brooke and Dawson were staring at me weirdly and I knew what it was about. My lack of reaction to the power outage. "First off, I've been in worse conditions. Second, my wife has to have all the lights off at our apartment or she can't sleep straight."
"Is that why she looks half asleep when she comes in during her shifts?" Lindsay asked with a frown.
Brooke reasoned, "they can't exactly turn off all the lights in the bullpen at 51 while there's people filling out paperwork."
Thea mentioned she was getting different blinds for her office windows to block out a good portion of the light from bullpen, but it was on her own dollar and the CFD wouldn't cover it, so it was taking a while to get to the firehouse even on express delivery.
"I might be rich, but that doesn't improve delivery times and traffic."
The backup generators kicked in and the lights flickered to a start, as the computers rebooted themselves and I noticed the file I hadn't saved was blank again. I internally groaned as Brooke answered her phone.
"Yeah, we're good...no, I'm still at work...of course, Jay's here. He's my way home...yeah, I can tell him...are you okay?...alright, I'll come see you guys soon...tell her I said hi!" She held her phone to her neck as she leaned to me. "51 was on a call; Teddy's okay, her phone was in the truck; she said she'll call back soon; and she's picking up my grandparents and Elli to have them at 51 with her and Kelly. Oh, and when we're done here, you can meet my sister."
"Thought you only had a brother," Olinsky, frightening us a little, piped in front him secluded desk.
Brooke hummed. "As it turns out, my dad got a woman he cheated on my mom with pregnant and I have a 21-year-old chef as a half-sister."
"Do you like her?" Lindsay asked, and suddenly we were all about Brooke's family issues. She didn't blame Katie, as her sister's name was, since it was Katie's mom that slept with a married man and their dad that slept with another woman while married.
While they talked about the Severides, I got to texting Thea. The first message was just a 'be careful' one, knowing the dark can make people lose their minds. When she sent a 'you too', I stopped myself from liking the message since I was still on Brooke's phone. I passed it back, and I turned to Ruzek for a charger. I wanted to talk to her on my phone.
#
Thea
Once Elli was settled with Katie, watching her cook in the kitchen, I checked on Kelly's grandparents and made sure they were comfortable in my office.
"Thank you, Thea." Kent shook my hand in both of his. "My grandson's got a good woman looking out for him."
I smiled, knowing that Kelly cherished their support with Elli. "Always, Kent. You're family."
"You too, kiddo." His attention was back on Agatha, and I left them to each other's company. Kent knew he just had to call out to Connie if they needed me, or Kelly for that matter.
As I walked around the firehouse, keeping an eye on the civilians, I noticed Boden talking to one of the women from a building fire some days ago. I sent him a simple nod with a knowing smile before checking in on Elli and Katie. Surely Katie was getting a little overwhelmed with how many people she and Cruz were cooking for.
"How's Auntie Katie doing, Principessa?" I hugged Elli's little body as I stopped behind her to watch the cooking over her head.
"Her cooking is better than Daddy's," Elli waved her sticky hands in my face to prove her point.
Katie smiled guiltily beside the stove. "She stuck her fingers into the sauce before I even noticed."
I shook my head, making sure Elli knew she couldn't do that, before I turned my attention back to Katie. "She gets it from Kelly, he can't help sticking his grimy hands into food either, and Brooke's the same. Might be the Severide genes."
"I can guarantee I will use a spoon," Katie laughed. I went to add something about her family's genetics, chalking up to the fingers-in-food thing to being Kelly's mother as we walked around to the bigger dining table, when a crashed and bang interrupted me.
A man was slamming a younger guy into the table, and Kelly and Boden rushed to separate them. I passed Elli to Katie, who held her niece closer to her shoulder. The man, after being shoved into the metal counter by Kelly, stole a knife from Cruz and waved it at everyone.
Kelly raised his hands in front of him. "Put the knife down, and get out."
"That guy's drunk brother put my niece in a coma!" The man shouted, pointing the knife at the kid he was beating up, before moving it on Kelly.
"We're not going to say it again," I pointed a finger at him. I doubted it would do anything, but it was worth a shot. "Put the damn knife down and get out."
The man didn't move for a moment, staring at me, before he moved to rush Kelly and jump the kid again. Before he reached Kelly, I threw my head into his torso and pushed him into the round table as civilians previously sitting there fled. As I got my arms around him, the man slashed at me and I backed off instinctively.
My self-defence trainer had stopped training me since I started in the CFD when I was 18, so I knew I was a little rusty but the ache in my shoulder really shouldn't have felt as bad as it did.
The man swiped the knife at my face, the tip grazing my cheek and causing me to back up even more. Kelly rushed him, shoving the man into the counter again and making him drop the knife. Once the weapon was gone, Kelly grabbed the guy by the back of his neck and dragged him outside. Boden followed, silently telling me to stay put with the civilians.
I checked on Elli, who was crying from watching her parents get in a fight, and made sure Katie wasn't too panicked. When the guys came back inside, Kelly did the same and wiped the blood from my face.
Boden talked to the on-looking civilians, reassuring their safety, before he turned to us. A couple of my guys had appeared during the fight, and stood nearby. "Keep a look out for anyone wanting a fight; you do what Kelly just did and throw them out in the snow."
The guys and I nodded, knowing Boden was meaning us mostly, given our training. I patched up the cut on my face in the bathroom, as Gabby poked her head inside. "Jay's looking for you."
He was waiting in my office by the time I found him, and as soon as he saw the bandage on my face, Jay lifted his hand for his finger to lightly graze the plastic cover. "Shay called Brooke and said you'd been scratched. She didn't say anything about a knife until we got here though."
"I'm okay." I didn't even believe myself so much that my voice was shaky.
The frown he gave me was a dead giveaway he didn't believe me either. "Thea..."
Thank god Kent and Agatha weren't in my office, because as soon as my nose felt tight and my shoulders started shaking, I started crying and holding onto Jay's shirt.
I was terrified. Mortified that I could've been stabbed, and Elli would've seen her mom get stabbed. She saw her mom fighting. The only thing worse than that was seeing her mom get stabbed. I was doing everything I could to make sure Elli didn't have the same childhood as me, and I let my teenage self take over.
As soon as I met Herrmann and I knew I wanted to be a firefighter, I was going to put my fighting instincts behind me and I'd be a better person than teenage me was. When Elli was born, and I knew she needed a mother, I promised little newborn her that I would do everything I could to make sure she didn't see that version of me.
The version of me that punched first and asked questions later. The version of me that ignored how much her grief affected her that she hurt everyone around her.
But as scared as I was that my toddler saw me any differently, I was scared I was going to die. I didn't want to die. Sometimes I did, but in that moment? No way. I had people to live for now.
I had a husband, who I might not have married because I was in love with him, but I was in love with the time I spent in his company. I had a little girl who needed a mother. I had a best friend who needed my help raising his baby girl, because he was scared he'd end up being another version of his father.
I had a husband. We would have kids eventually. He would need their mother around as they grew up. Those kids needed their mother around. They needed their mother around. They needed their mother around.
"Theodosia, look at me." Jay's voice came through all the voices in my head, and I realised he had been holding my face for at least a few minutes. One thumb grazed over the bandage, and the other wiped the tears from the left side of my face. "You're okay, now. The bastard comes back to get you, I'll kick his ass before he comes in the door. I'm not letting him hurt you."
I bit my lip to stop the tears, just staring at Jay's face. Counting his freckles to calm myself down; his eyes were a really pretty shade of green. They were so much prettier with the freckles all over his face too. "What did I do to deserve you?"
"You didn't need to do anything to deserve someone caring about you, Thea. It's about time someone makes sure you know that. You're amazing, Thea, and I know Elizabeth looks up to you more than anyone."
"Teddy." I murmured, receiving a confused frown. "You can call me Teddy. We've been together long enough now."
Jay smiled. "Great. I was starting to get jealous of Brooke being able to call you that."
"Oh, ha ha. Very funny."
"I am very funny, aren't I?" He grinned, looking a little too prideful.
We didn't get any more alone time, as Brooklyn threw open my office door. I was sure she was more worried about me than her brother, and she was ready to shoved Jay out of her way so she could take care of me.
"I'm okay, B. You two can head back to the district, I'm sure you're needed more there." I squeezed her hands with a little smile. As much as I liked Brooklyn, I felt bad taking any sympathy from her. She was younger than me, and she really didn't need to worry about me; her brother did that enough. "As long as Katie and Elli are okay, you need to get back."
Brooklyn gave Jay a look, before she nodded and she bid goodbye. Jay squeezed my hand before following after her. The sweetheart that Gabby told me about was starting to show, or maybe he always was one and I just didn't notice.

Line: "I could show you incredible things." Location: ambo
Hm, let’s try an AU this time.
***
Matt’s never seen the back of this ambo before.
He’s been parked on the back bumper of 61 many times. For a forced rest or to let Mills, Shay, or occasionally Dawson tend to him. But he’s never spared 36 more than a passing glance.
Until today when he stepped out of that apartment fire and struggled to breathe. The PIC on 36 had all but blackmailed him into taking a break.
She hands him a water, her blond hair french braided and pulled to one shoulder. “Better?”
“Getting there,” he admits sheepishly. He knows he snapped at her, at first. But his people are still fighting the fire and evacuating residents. They need his help.
She pats his shoulder with a gloved hand and nods. “Good. Wouldn’t want the captain in charge of the most infamous crew in the CFD to pass out. If what I’ve heard is to be believed, without you things would be pretty chaotic on 81.”
“Funny, you’ve heard of me but I don’t know you.”
“That’s intentional,” she says with a quiet chuckle. “Contrary to your ambo, mine doesn’t enjoy butting heads with Hatcher.” She removes her dirty gloves, covered in blood and soot from other victims, and then holds her bare hand out for a shake. “Sylvie Brett, Firehouse 40. Nice to meet you.”
Why did her chuckle cause a tightness in his chest and how is it possible that her eyes are so naturally bright? “Matt Casey,” he replies accepting her hand.
“I know. Everyone does.” The upward quirk of her lips, the small dimple on her cheek, and the teasing in her gaze has him entranced. He can’t look away.
“Right,” he says, blowing out a nervous breath. “Our reputation precedes us, I guess. How have I never seen you around before?”
“I lay low, do my job, and make very few waves,” she answers. He can respect that. He wishes his house would make one or two less waves.
“Casey!” Severide yells from the Squad rig. “You good?”
“Yeah! I’ll be right there,” he calls back. He looks back at Sylvie and points over his shoulder. “I should —“
“Go,” she urges him with a nod. “We both have work to do.”
They go their separate ways and Matt gets so caught up in the fire that he forgets all about the blonde medic who managed to save his ass and put him in his place all at once. At least until they get back to 51, and then he can’t stop thinking about her. While cleaning his gear, doing inventory, checking the compartments — through it all he keeps seeing her face.
“Dammit,” Kidd says as she closes the last compartment.
“What’s up?” Casey asks.
“Our K-12 is gone.”
“The saw?”
“Yeah, I think the Lieutenant from 40 borrowed it.”
Normally, this would piss Matt off, but at the mention of 40 he can’t help but perk up a little. “Then let’s go get it. We can’t work without our saw.”
“Right now?” Mouch asks.
“No, tomorrow,” Matt snarks. “Come on, load up. Let’s go for a ride.”
And that’s how he ends up waiting on 40’s apparatus floor while Grainger searches his rig for 81’s K-12. He spots 36, off in the corner. Leaving Kidd in charge of the search, he wanders toward it.
Sylvie turns at the sound of his footfalls, braid whipping around her head. “Oh! Captain, hi.”
“Hi,” he greets, nervously clearing his throat.
She sits and resumes folding towels, but nods to the empty spot on 36’s bench seat. “Come on up. What brings you by?”
“Your Lieutenant borrowed one of my tools and forgot to give it back.”
She winces. “That’s not good. I know how protective firefighters are of their equipment.”
“As long as they find it and get it back to me, it’ll be fine.”
“You’ll have to cut Grainger a break. He’s a bit of a mess right now,” Sylvie tells him, a flash of guilt in her eyes. “He’s, um, going through a break up.”
Based on the way Grainger has stopped searching his compartment’s and is now blatantly glaring at Casey, he thinks he knows who with. “Ah. I’ll keep that in mind.” He glances around 36 to distract himself from Grainger’s jealous staring. He notices this ambo is immaculate and every space is organized to fit maximum equipment and inventory. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen an ambo this easy to navigate. I know where everything is in one glance.”
“Good, then my system works,” she says, grinning boastfully at him. “I’m the queen of organization around here.”
“You’re that good, huh? You should give me some tips and tricks. I’m hopeless at it.”
“Oh, Captain Casey, you just said the magic words. I could show you incredible things.” Her eyes light up, sparking an even brighter shade of blue. “If you’re serious, that is.”
“Please, call me Matt,” he requests, trying and failing to hide his amusement at her enthusiasm to help him. “And I’m completely serious.”
She bites her bottom lip, cheeks flushing pink very slightly. “Okay, Matt.”
“Why don’t I buy you a drink sometime and you can tell me all about it?” He asks, hoping she doesn’t notice how sweaty he’s gotten since deciding to ask her out.
“Um, sure,” she answers, the wattage of her smile intensifies until it matches her eyes. She’s so gorgeous she’s practically blinding him. “I would love that.” She takes her phone out of her jacket pocket and hands it to him. “Here. Put your number in there and we’ll work out details.”
“Perfect.”
He didn’t have getting a date on his to-do list today, but he’s not complaining. When an opportunity like this falls into your lap, you don’t waste it.

I’d love it if you could write
“Well, this went horribly wrong…” And “Idiots. They are all idiots.”
With Chicago Fire pretty please ❤️
The atmosphere of Firehouse 51 was one of absolute secrecy. The majority of the house had crammed into the common room, some filling food dishes while others strung up decorations, each person adopting a very temporary and absolutely rare attitude of quiet.
"Hey, Kelly, grab that," you whispered as loud as you could. Balancing on the edge of an armchair, you had been attempting to stick a Happy Birthday banner above the doorway.
Kelly put his stack of party hats down and rushed over to help. "Where am I going?" he asked, taking the end of the banner. He pulled it over to the other side of the room, standing on the tips of his toes to stick it in the corner. "Here? Hey, Stella, pass me the tape?"
Sylvie slapped Mouch's hand as it reached for the bowl of popcorn. "Uh, no! Hands off the party food, Mouch."
"Oh, come on, there's more than enough here," Mouch sulked.
Sylvie stared. "Off."
"Guys, where am I putting these party poppers?" Violet called, slapping a hand over her mouth when a chorus of hushes came her way.
Cruz pointed towards the pile of presents on a table. "I think Y/N said over there."
Hermann cursed. "Damn, I think I forgot my present."
"No, no—" You turned momentarily away from the birthday banner, which you were still struggling to hang up the right way, to point Violet in a different direction— "By the cake."
Stella, about three party hats on her head, frowned. "Did that personalised birthday sash every arrive?"
"Mouch, I said off the food!"
"Please, Sylvie?"
"Y/N," Kelly said, "this is impossible." The birthday banner did not want to stay up, its finicky material ripping and slipping every time you and Kelly tried to stick your respective ends to the wall.
You, ever the tenacious one, set your lips in a tight, determined line and frowned as you concentrated. "Nothing's impossible Just—reach a bit more—"
Ritter's voice, riddled with nervous laughter, broke through the quietude of the common room. "Uh, guys?"
"What in God's name are you doing to my firehouse?"
Your head swung around so fast you lost your balance on the edge of the chair and fell, only saved from falling in a heap on the floor by Cruz, who caught you and steadied you.
Chief Wallace Boden stood inches in front of the open doorway, stern face surveying the common room's new features. Behind him, Capp and Tony lingered, the we fucked up looks absolutely at home on their faces. They escaped not a single glare from the occupants of the room, who stood scattered, each with their own job that they took one hundred percent seriously.
Capp leaned over Boden's shoulder. "You said twelve!" he hissed.
"We said half twelve!" Stella hissed back.
There was a general silence and very little movement that lasted approximately three seconds before Sylvie stepped forward, hands clasped in front of her and smiling as wide as she could without it looking too forced.
"Chief!" she said. "Surprise?" At the ensuing silence, she spun on her heel and glared until everyone shouted "surprise!"
The birthday banner fell on Kelly's head.
"Well," Hermann said around an awkward cough, "this went horribly wrong."
On any other day, in any other circumstance, you might have laughed about the upheaval. But this was a party you had been planning for three shifts. Each detail had been meticulously thought out, greatly desiring the man who'd been there for you since you were toddling around the firehouse to have a good birthday despite working. Now, that plan had plummeted downwards.
You sighed and your shoulders slackened in defeat. Noting this, and finally grasping what this was, Boden let himself smile and picked up a party hat from one of the tables. "On the contrary," he said, putting the hat on your head, "I think it's wonderful."
A chorus of cheers rounded the common room and Cruz struck up the music player.
"Thank you, guys," Boden said as he pulled you, finally grinning, into his side, "truly."

Alright! Yall said, "Let it rip so you know the drill! Grab yourself a little snacky snack & let's unpack this shit.
I find it funny how people are trying to misconstrue the problem that we have with the way Pascal is acting & treating Stella. No one has said Stella was right in the manner in which she approached him in episode 1. Hell Kelly called her out on it & Stella herself admitted it. My issue lies in the fact that regardless of episode 1, it appears that Pascal has given his other LTs a level of grace & understanding that he is not giving Stella. So I genuinely want to know why. And if episode 1 is his why, then it goes back to what I said preseason about Stella's mistakes (minor compared to those of others, her husband included) following her. Stella being held to different standards & expectations than her male peers.
If episode 1 is not his reason then I'm left to assume & those assumptions lead me to facts that are rooted in systemic misogyny, racism & sexism.
1. Stella is the only female WOC LT at Firehouse 51.
2. Stella is a younger LT compared to what the CFD is accustomed to seeing per the chief comments in 9x03
2a. Also let's keep in mind the conversation she had with Carver in 11x01. When Stella came home she told Kelly that when she told Carver she got support from DC Hill & his response was "that makes sense" as if she was incapable of earning the shit on her own accord or merrit but implying Stella got a leg up because she was a WOC. Are we forgetting how Stella even met DC Hill? DC Hill came to 51 looking for the FIREFIGHTER that got control of the rig & prevented an accident with civilians. That firefighter was Stella Freaking Kidd.
3. Maybe Pascal thinks less of Stella because she's married/dated a coworker. He could have the same perception that "she slept her way to top"that was expressed in 9x03.
Some observations that I'd like to consider as we unpack his behavior.
1. Pascal brought up turnover on truck yet didn't have the wherewithal to look at the files of the firefighters who transferred out? We've seen that every time someone transfers out, there's a transfer slip that has to be completed. He would have seen Mason & Gallo didn't get transferred to another house within the CFD. He would have saw that they literally are in different STATES still firefighting. I honestly don't know what Gibsons would have said but it would have shown that only one of her FFs that was under her command is no longer on the job.
2. Why was Pascal so QUICK to believe Damon's (White male) word & opinion of Stella over Stella's request to put him back in the floater pool? Stella has been at 51 as a firefighter & LT LONGER than Damon has been a fucking firefighter! So you mean to tell me you're about to strip a LT who has received the firefighter award for valor based off the word of a firefighter who came to 51 as a floater & per Kelly in 13x04 relatively fresh out the academy!? Yall see how insane that sounds right?
3. The only reason Pascal changed his tune on Stella in 13x03 was after Mouch brought him her files/records. So my next question is, why did it take another white male to help sway him? I'm not saying he had to take Stella's word outright but it's the fact that he absolutely SHUT her down & redirected the blame back on her & her "lack of leadership" without investigating the facts. He claims to be all about rules & protocols yet failed to effectively do his research on the situation prior to going to Mouch & asking if he'd be ready to take the LT exam if he needed him...? Huuuuuuh?? I love Mouch, but someone point me to the major save or rescue he did this season so far to "prove himself" to Pascal.... oh wait, he hasn't had one, but you know who has... more on that later.
4. So after Mouch literally saves the night because he himself felt it necessary to go to this man's house off shift at night to bring him her records. Pascal does the right thing & tells Stella to make sure the next replacement on 81 sticks. So what does Stella do!? Does she drag her feet? Does she ignore his orders? Nope she gets right on it. She knew who she wanted but was STILL vetting other candidates because she wanted to make the best informed decision. Yet Pascal was at her neck again saying she was overthinking it. It had been 2-3 shifts MAX. It seems like Stella is showcasing leadership skills that Pascal should be because good leaders don't make important decisions lightly or without all the facts. They research they do their homework they vet out the low hanging fruit to ensure the best decision is made for the betterment of the house.
5. Hermann overheard Pascal & out of HIS mouth, he said Pascal had Stella so stressed out that if she didn't find a replacement for truck, he'd have her bugles. So again, that's not us making the shit up it's quite literally implied in the dialogue that clearly people are picking up the energy & animosity Pascal has towards her. So again, I'm asking where the professionalism is, or is Stella the only one required to be professional?
6. So now I want to talk about Kelly & Pascals interaction in 13x05. It honestly felt like Pascal said that shit to Kelly to see if Kelly would react. We watched Pascal go to LT Vales house & physically assault him for a conversation Vale had with Monica... so clearly he's very protective of his wife so why would he think Kelly would be the person to call Stella an asshole to? That shit was so uncalled for & CHILDISH because if Kelly had punched him in the fucking stomach then what?
At the end of the day before Kelly is Stella's husband he is her peer when they are on shift so again why are you talking shit about one of your direct reports to another direct report?
It sort of felt like a powerplay because Pascal has already brought up to Kelly about him & Stella working together & that he'd be keeping an eye on them. Then he goes & makes that comment knowing that Kelly probably won't respond to it out of fear that he'll throw them being married in his face again if he defends her.
So what we're not about to do is try to normalize or justify Pascals behavior based on the argument that "Stella shouldn't have mouthed off or challenged him." Because honestly, we've seen Kelly & Casey go head to head with Boden & other chiefs, commissioners, etc. when they felt passionately about something (right, wrong, indifferent, they've done it). Not saying what Stella did was right or absolving her from accountability but we're not about to act like she yelled at him & told him to go fuck off! She should've handled herself differently but she shouldn't have to continue to bear the brunt of his twisted ass power plays or whatever the hell he's power tripping on.
He doesn't have to like her & as far as I'm concerned she doesn't have to like him but hell bare minimum he needs to start acting like Battalion Chief with 20+ years on the job versus a petty ass manchild who's mad the girl on the playground embarrassed him in front of his friends.
And I don't want to hear about "Stella hasn't been challenged or Boden let her get away with blah blah or Boden didnt make her "prove" herself & that maybe if she "proves" herself he'll give her a break.
Hard stop, NO! Kelly hasn't had to prove himself. Hermann hasn't had to prove himself. So WHY TF would Stella have to "prove" herself to this man? Like i mentioned before, the playing field needs to be fair across the board for all of them. If anything, Stella has proven herself because she's the one who pulled Damon out of that collapsed sign. She's the one who saw Ritter laying there & still gave clear, concise direction to her truck company (instead of getting all emotional like they think women are going to act in times of crisis 🙄) She took the case in 13x05 & ran with it. Kelly was with her in one scene investigating those crashes. After that, Stella was the one making house calls & following up. Yet at the end of the episode, they had Kelly debriefing the chief on the outcome of the case & not Stella... WHY? At minimum, Stella should have been there & they could have used it as a moment to have them move forward. Instead, they used it as a way to have him add fuel to the fire with that backhanded compliment laced in disrespect by saying she's a pain in the ass & i don't know why!?
Do i think Pascal is a racist, misogynistic, sexist POS sent to uphold the CREEKY views of the CFD? Idk 🤷♀️ but what i do know is if it walks, if it talks if it looks then it just might fit. Because there's a clear distinction in how he has handled Stella over the last 4 episodes versus everyone else. & if he's none of those things & he's still just hurt over being challenged by her in episode 1, then I say this with care, but it's time to build a bridge & get over it because I'm tired.
So, in conclusion..... Dom Pascal
When you're referring to anyone at 51 but especially Stella Kidd. 😌

Sweet Treats and Teasing
Request: Hi can i request a kelly severide x reader where kelly Severide introduces yn as his his girlfriend she brings cookies/ brownies to firehouse 51 and his co works they tease her a bit
Pairings: Kelly Severide x Reader
Warnings: fluff
Masterlist
A/N: thank you @maximeseveridecasey for requesting and I'm so sorry it took forever to get out!
Your life was great. You had an amazing boyfriend who was a firefighter and looked great in uniform. He would drop anything for you and you for him. You couldn't ask for anything better and you didn't want anything better. You were happy with your hunk of handsome firefighter. His name is Kelly Severide.
You run a pretty big bakery/deli/cafe, Station Sweets Cafe and Deli, close to the firehouse and it was sometimes a blessing and a curse. Big as in three stories tall upstairs for lounging and eating, main floor for food, kitchen, lounging and eating, and a basement for storage, inventory, appliances, and maintenance equipment. You get a lot of college kids studying for exams or just need a place to hang out. You also get a lot of your customers who are first responders and medical care personnel. You knew almost everyone, though you hadn't met Kelly's crew or not that you know of. They may have come in when you weren't there.
It was a blessing because you weren't too far from your boyfriend and a curse because each time, they got called out they drove past your bakery and it made you a nervous wreck. Even though you were the boss you also worked at the bakery/deli and loved it, you have the best staff you could ask for and it was perfect.
You and Kelly met when he walked into your bakery needing something for a last-minute pick up for a first responders get together. When you both laid eyes on each other the both of you melted and fell in love. Now it's been 4 years of nothing but bliss. You could see a future with him and what you didn't know was that Kelly was thinking the same thing. Sure, he has had his fair share of flings and girlfriends but when he met you, he didn't want anybody else, he just wanted you. Some people could say you changed him for the better.
Currently you are snuggled up with Kelly and enjoying his heat that he always puts off on the chilly Chicago morning. If it were up to you and him you both wouldn't leave but sadly reality came rearing its head, well at least for Kelly it was your day off, by the sound of his alarm going off. You groaned and he did too and was quick to turn off. “Do you have to go?” You asked as you rolled over to look at him and he chuckled while smiling and kissing your forehead.
“Yes. You know how much I would love to stay in bed with you all morning but people need saving.” He said, you sighed frowning just a little.
“Can't they take a break from doing anything idiotic for one day?” You asked and he chuckled.
“I so wish, Baby. Now come on, I have to take a shower.” He said
“Can I join?” You asked and smiled.
“Always, you know I would never say no to you joining me in the shower.” He said as he started to get out of bed and you followed him.
After your nice hot steamy shower, you both were now in the kitchen. He had one his uniform and you had your hair up in a wet bun and just a shirt hanging on your body. He admired you from the doorway of the kitchen as you moved around easily getting things out for the day. He moved to where he was behind you and took you in his arms making you squeal. “KELS!” You shrieked out and he chuckled as he kissed your neck, you leaned your head giving him better access. “You're gonna be late.” You said as you turned in his arms and threw your arms around his neck.
“Hmmmm they'll understand.” He said and you smiled and shook your head.
“No, you need to get going. You have lives to save, remember?” You asked
“Yea I remember.” He said and you kissed him.
“I'll see you in three days.” You said and groaned and pulled a face.
“Three days is too long.” He replied and you nodded in agreement.
“But it's what you signed up for and you love it.” You reminded him.
“Yes, I know. I do love it but I love you more.” He said and you chuckled and pushed his chest.
“Get going you big sap. I may or may not bring some treats down to you later.” You said
“If you do, the entire firehouse will love you for it.” He said and you smiled.
“Oh, don't I know.” You replied, you had sent some goodies down to them via one of your workers but they never knew you were the one to make them. Most of your workers knew how to make the food and that's because you had the recipes in a book and they were very simple and easy to follow.
“You know you should stop by and I can introduce you to the team. Let them know you're the one making the treats that they can't seem to get enough of.” He said as he got ready to leave. Half of the time when you were off you sent Kelly with some goodies that you had left over from baking at home for the bakery or just in general and he always comes back with requests for more. Now Kelly can cook and bake but his baking doesn't live up to yours and you can cook really good, some say even better than Kelly and you take pride in that and sometimes tease him about it.
“I just might have to do that. Can't have you taking all the credit for the sweets I bring and send.” You said and he laughed a very continuous laugh.
“Hey, I can bake.” He said and you smiled and nodded.
“That you can but I'm just a little bit better at it.” You said and he nodded and cocked an eyebrow.
“You got that right.” He said and then looked down at his watch “I gotta go. I love you.” He said as he planted another kiss on your forehead.
“I love you too.” You said and he started to walk out “Be safe!” You yelled out to him and he turned around, body out the door and hand on the door knob.
“Always.” He said and then winked and he was off leaving you smiling and shaking your head. Now you were left to sort out what you wanted to make. You thought about making some s'mores treats for them and to be honest you wanted some too. So that's what you set out on doing. First you needed to go to the grocery for in general food and supplies for home and the bakery, yes you had a truck coming but one of your workers texted you that they needed something before the truck got there tomorrow morning and you being the best boss told them you would be there soon. You figured you would get those supplies and then go back to finish shopping for home supplies.
As you arrived at the grocery store you checked your phone one more time for what you needed for your store and quickly went to that section. “Alright, let’s see where is it?” You asked yourself and began to look through the shelves.
“What can I help you with?” Someone asked but you knew that voice and smiled and turned around and saw your boyfriend.
“Hi there, handsome. I’m looking for some ground cinnamon.” You said and he smiled.
“Don’t you have a truck coming in with those supplies?” Kelly asked and you smiled and nodded.
“I do but they won’t be in until tomorrow morning and we are out out.” You explained
“I see. I see.” He said and then you turned back around and started to look for it once again. “Here it is.” He said and grabbed it and gave it to you.
“You’re a lifesaver.” You said and turned around and kissed him and he gladly kissed back.
“That’s my job, Babe.” He said and you laughed. “Still coming to the station?” He asked.
“Yup! Just have to deliver this to the shop and then go back here to grab supplies and groceries for home.” You said and he hummed.
“You be careful out there.” He said
“Always.” You said and winked using the move he used on you that morning and he laughed as you began to walk away. You were checking out and heading to your shop. It wasn’t that far of a drive and you arrived pretty quickly. You parked and grabbed your bag and walked into the building.
“Good morning, Y/N/N.” Will Halstead, one of your regulars and best friends, said and you smiled at him.
“Hey, Will.” You said
“Isn’t it supposed to be your day off?” He asked and you chuckled and nodded.
“Yes, but we ran out of ground cinnamon.” You said and he chuckled.
“I see. I will let you get to it. Have a nice day!” He said and you smiled.
“You too.” You said and then quickly walked to the back where Leslie, the one who texted you, was there. “Here is your ground cinnamon.” You said and she looked relieved.
“Thank you so much! I’m so sorry you had to be here on your day off but I couldn’t wait until the morning to make these. We have a large order for a party tonight.” She said and you smiled at her.
“Not a problem. I was on my way to the grocery store so it was not a problem.” You said and she smiled.
“Is there a way I can make it up to you?” She asked and you shook your head.
“No, you do enough around here.” You said
“Thank you again.” She said and you smiled and then got back to work and then you were heading back to the store to grab supplies for the s’mores treats and supplies for home. It was a very quick trip and the next thing you knew you were back at home bringing in the groceries and started on the treats.
You put on music and began your baking. You enjoyed backing anything that you could, some you have recipes for and others you didn’t. Occasionally you would get a text from Kelly and in response you would send him a picture of what you were doing and he always responded that you were teasing him but you reminded him that he was going to get some and he had full access to the sweets when he was at home.
After 4 fours of baking, you had enough for the entire station for the three days that they would be on shift. You packed them up and then put them in a bag and headed off to the station. It wasn’t a very far drive and you were thankful for that. When you parked next to Kelly’s truck you got out and grabbed the sweets and walked into the station all vehicles were there which meant that they were all still there. As you walked in you spotted Kelly. “Hey, Kels.” You said and he was quick to turn around and a smile appeared on his face.
“Hey, Baby.” He said and walked over to you. “Wasn’t expecting you so soon.” He said and you huffed.
“Bull shit yes you were.” You said and he chuckled.
“Ok, yes, I was. So, what did you bring us?” He asked
“Oh, just some s’mores cookies and brownies.” You said
“I heard s’mores.” A woman’s voice came through and you looked around Kelly and smiled.
“You heard correctly.” You said as she came closer and then everyone was coming out.
“Guy’s this is Y/n, my girlfriend.” Kelly said “Y/N this is Christopher Herrmann, Stella Kidd, Harold Capp, Joe Cruz, Gabriela Dawson, Sylvie Brett, Wallace Boden, Matthew Casey, Blake Gallo, and Brian Zvonecek aka Otis.” He said and introduced each and every one of them.
“It’s nice to finally meet all of you.” You said a little bit nervously.
“We finally get to meet the girl that made Kelly actually settle down.” Otis said and you chuckled.
“It wasn’t easy but hey I like a challenge.” You said “Please feel free to eat the sweets, they're s’more cookies and brownies.” You said and everyone.
“Let’s get these inside and where it is warmer.” Kelly said
“Oh man our man Kelly is down bad.” Casey said “You know ever since you had become a couple he has changed for the good. It must be the food.” He said as he picked up a container and started to walk into the station and into the kitchen/ break room.
“Oh my gosh. These are so good!” Gabriela said “Wait… do you own Station Sweets Cafe and Deli?” She asked and you smiled and nodded.
“Yes, I do.” You said
“I knew you looked so familiar. I love that place.” She said and you smiled.
“Thank you.” You said
“I knew Kelly couldn’t have cooked all those delicious sweets.” Joe said
“Hey! I can bake.” He said
“That is very true. He can.” You said
“You keep feeding us these treats and we’ll have to start working out more.” Blake said and you laughed.
“I think you all will be just fine considering your jobs are a work out. I could never.” You said. The longer you stayed the more you got comfortable around them and the more the teasing you got but you gave it back to them.
“So, Y/N, how did Kelly convince you to give him your number?” Stella asked
“She made me work for it.” Kelly said and you nodded.
“He kept coming into the store but I was never there or I was busy but I noticed him. He finally got to talk to me when he needed something for the first responder’s cookout and the rest was history. So, there really was no convincing.” You said. More questions were fired at you but you answered them with ease and Kelly just sat back as you handled his team with ease. He knew you were the right one for him and he couldn’t wait to spend the rest of his life with you.
You could’ve stayed all day but the bell rang and they had to go to work. Kelly turned to you as everyone ran out to get their gear on. “I’m sorry for all the teasing.” He said and you shook your head and waved him off.
“Nonsense. They are great. I’m just glad I was the one to settle you down.” You said
“I’m glad it was you too.” He said
“You need to go.” You said and started to push him out.
“Alright, I love you.” He said and kissed you and you kissed him back.
“I love you too. Be safe.” You said
“Always.” He said and winked at you and smirked and then he was pulling on his gear and they were speeding off. As you watched them go off you smiled to yourself, you were so glad you were the one he decided to settle down with. You couldn’t imagine your life without him and you didn’t want to. Everything was perfect.

Right in front of you | Leslie Shay
Pairing: Leslie Shay x Reader Reader pronouns used: she/her Prompt: "Is that a hickey?" Masterlist | Chicago Fire masterlist | Words: 1k
You loved to cook at the firehouse around the corner, on your days off from the family owned restaurant you worked at. Besides loving to cook, it was also a way for you to see your girlfriend when she was on shift. The environment at 51 was also not bad, you loved being around the people that Shay called her family, even though most of them didn’t know you and Shay were a thing. The two of you didn’t mind people knowing, you just didn’t want to make telling people such a big deal. Severide and Dawson knew for sure as they were her best friends, and maybe some other people had guessed and just never mentioned it. There were however also a few people that were definitely still clueless, like Cruz and Otis, as they were about to prove to you once again, you realized when you saw them walk in with their eyes focussed on you.
“Good morning boys, how was the call?” You ask as you put some scrambled eggs and bacon on a plate for each of them. Cruz was quick to give you an answer, priding himself on saving the day. “I rescued an old lady from her house before it was engulfed in flames.” Otis quickly chimes in, “Not before I located her and told you where to find her.” It was adorable how hard they were trying. “Sounds like a great start to the day, then.” You smile.
You had been coming to prepare food at the station for a few months now. When Shay had breakfast duty one day she asked if you could prepare breakfast for take out at the restaurant, after she relayed the many compliments the team gave to the food, you had suggested coming over to cook breakfast in the firehouse once a week, much to Shay and the team's liking.
Not a day at the firehouse went by without Cruz and Otis trying to flirt with you. Not responding to their flirts or not showing the same interests back didn't stop them from trying every time, though. You had mentioned it to Shay after the first time it happened, wanting to be open about it. She just laughed at their antics with you, before she pecked your lips and told you, “You just tell them off or tell them about us if it gets annoying, okay?” So far, you had just found it funny, and decided to see how long they were going to keep this up, still not in any way giving them a signal that you were interested in them, of course.
You were still making scrambled eggs when Shay and Dawson got back from their call. They walked right up to you for their food, a cup of coffee, and of course they started a conversation with you. When they sat down with the rest of the team Shay overheard Cruz and Otis whispering amongst themselves. “We should start a bet on who will be able to get y/n to go on a date with them first.” She exchanges a look with Dawson, both of them working hard on keeping their laughter in. Shay, like you, thought their antics were hilarious, so she didn't stop them, unless you would get uncomfortable by it.
Shay joins the conversation of their other teammates. She gets tired of her hair in her face so she puts her hair up in a quick messy bun. “Wow, Shay, is that a hickey?” Mills gasps. Dawson turns Shay's head her way so she can see for herself. “Sure looks like a hickey, Mills, never seen one before?” The brunette jokes. The rest of the team starts bombarding your girlfriend with questions, you look over to the group as it starts quite the commotion. “Okay, okay, calm down. You all get one question.” Shay says, knowing these people well enough to know they were going to drop it.
Capp starts off the questioning round. “Is she hot?” He immediately gets a shove to the shoulder by Tony, “Was that seriously the best you could do?” After he shrugs, Shay answers, “Yes, she's very hot.” Mills goes next, “One night stand?” She shakes her head, “No.” The team shares a look before Casey asks the next question, “Does Severide know who it is then?” Severide answers that one, letting the team know that he does. Otis decides to ask the next question, “Do we know her?” Shay noticed that you were walking towards the table with your own plate of food. “Yes, you do.” She says. You can see their brains working overtime, and have to try to hold in your laugh, as you sit down besides Shay.
You share a look with Shay, letting her know that however she wants to handle this, it is okay with you. She smiles and puts her arm over the back of your chair. “It's really not that hard to think of a person that you all know.” She says, pulling their eyes back to her. The arm on your chair makes its way to your side, as she pulls you closer to her. “She's literally sitting right in front of you.” After finishing her sentence she places a kiss on your forehead and keeps holding you close. Most of the reactions to the news were comments along the lines of that’s great, congratulations, or you’ve got to keep this one around followed by Mouch pointing to the food and then giving a thumbs up. Of course, those reactions were all great, however, your favorite reactions were those of Cruz and Otis. Their eyes widened when they realized they had been flirting with Shay’s girlfriend for weeks.
The newly found information made the team quickly forget about the hickey that started the conversation, as the team was happy to see Shay so happy with you. They continued asking you both questions, how did you meet? and how long have you been together? until the alarm rang and all companies were being called to a scene. Shay kisses you before getting up, “Thank you for breakfast, baby.”

day one - stab wound
notes: hi friends and welcome to febwhump 2024 or sev whump as I've been calling it. that's right, 29 days where I hurt or torture everyone's favorite squad lieutenant!
read on AO3 or below
It was a calm night at Molly’s, something the members of Firehouse 51 desperately needed after the past few shifts they’d had. The first cold snap of the season had brought snow and ice along with it, causing multiple car accidents and house fires that made for hectic shifts.
The entirety of 51’s second shift, even Boden, had made it to Molly’s that night. They all wanted to relax with a beer or two before heading to their homes for two days of well-deserved rest. The only one who hadn’t made it to Molly’s yet was Kelly, who’d met at the Fire Academy with the other instructors. Stella expected him soon though, he’d texted her when he left the Academy and told her he was heading over.
The relaxing night everyone so desperately wanted was promptly ruined when the door to Molly’s burst open and a young woman, barely over 21, ran into the bar. Her hair was wild, and mascara-stained tear streaks painted her cheeks, but the most alarming thing to everyone in the room was the bright red blood staining her hands.
“Help, please!” She cried from the door. “Someone call 911!”
It was those magic words that made everyone jump into action. The members of 51 sprang to their feet and ran towards the girl. Brett and Violet reached her first, immediately followed by the others.
Brett and Violet started checking her for injuries. “What’s your name sweetie?” Violet asked.
“M-Meagan.”
“Hi Meagan,” Brett said with a smile, trying to calm the girl. “Can you tell us what happened? Where are you hurt?”
Meagan shook her head. “No no no, it’s not me. You have to help him!”
“Help who? What happened?” Stella asked.
“My friend, Ava, and I were walking home and one of the guys from the bar down the street was following us, harassing us. He grabbed Ava’s arm and started being aggressive with her. Then this other guy runs up, pulls him away, and stands in between us and him. He told him to leave but the guy pulled a knife and he just…. he stabbed him!” Meagan explained, a fresh round of tears running down her face. “Ava’s in nursing school, she started applying pressure but he needs help!”
Boden pulled the phone away from his ear, 911 dispatch still on the line. “CPD and an ambo are a few minutes out.”
“Let’s go,” Herrmann ordered. He grabbed the first aid kit from behind the bar and led the group out of Molly's and into the chilly Chicago night.
It didn't take them long at all to find what they were looking for. There on the ground, on the other side of the street, was their victim. The closer they got though, they realized their victim wasn’t just a good Samaritan who tried to help someone in need.
“Oh my god,” Stella exclaimed. “Kelly!”
Stella sprinted the last few feet and dropped to her knees by Kelly’s side. Her eyes roamed over his body and her stomach dropped. Stella had never been one to be squeamish but the sight of her husband’s blood pouring onto the sidewalk made bile rise in her throat.
Out of the corner of her eye, Stella saw Ritter helping Ava up and Brett and Violet beginning to try and help Kelly but her focus was solely on Kelly. His eyes were glassy, and Stella could tell he was fighting to stay awake.
She moved closer to his head and laid a hand on his cheek, trying to keep his attention. “Hey, Kelly, stay awake ok?”
“Stell-“ Kelly started, quietly.
“Shhh, I’m right here,” Stella shushed him gently. “Don’t try and talk ok? Help’s on the way.”
“Girls?”
“They’re ok,” Stella said, a sad smile on her face. “You saved them.”
At Stella’s assurance that Ava and Meagan were safe, Kelly lost his hold on consciousness.
“No, no, no, Kelly!” Stella yelled, panicked. She tapped his cheek but Kelly didn’t respond.
Stella turned towards Brett and Violet, hoping for some reassurance, but the grim looks on their faces did the opposite. “What-?”
“The bleeding won’t stop,” Violet growled, frustrated. She tossed the bloodied gauze to the side, where a terrifying pile of soiled gauze had rapidly grown over the last few minutes.
Brett’s hands replaced Violet’s with fresh gauze, but it quickly began turning red. “I think the knife might have hit his spleen,” she said grimly.
“Where the hell is the ambulance?!” Stella cried.
“They’re pulling up now!” Cruz called from the street. He and the others from 51 had formed a barrier around their downed teammate and friend, keeping the curious masses away from the scene.
Sure enough, the street was soon bathed in sirens and flashing red and blue lights as the ambulance and a few CPD cruisers arrived. The paramedics made quick work getting Severide stable enough for transport. They loaded him into the ambulance, Stella climbing in right after.
“Stella,” Boden called from the doors of the ambulance. “We’ll meet you at the hospital as soon as we can.”
Stella gave a curt nod and turned her attention back to Kelly. Boden closed the ambulance doors and thumped it twice, signaling it was good to go.
The ambulance took off, lights and sirens blaring toward Med, leaving the shell-shocked group of first responders behind, drowning in a sea of red and blue and concern for their friend.
… … …
It was barely controlled chaos in the ambulance. Stella had taken over applying pressure to the wound while the paramedic got Kelly hooked up to the monitors and an IV started.
No matter how much pressure Stella applied, or how much she begged and pleaded, the bleeding just wouldn’t stop. Her husband, the love of her life, was bleeding out right in front of her and there was nothing she could do to stop it. This was not how their story was supposed to end–after everything they’d been through, this wasn’t how things were supposed to go.
Tears fell from Stella’s eyes. It’d been a while since she acted as a paramedic but the knowledge hadn’t left her. She knew Kelly had lost a lot of blood…was still losing a lot of blood. He needed surgery and transfusions and a hospital and he needed it fast but Stella knew there was no guarantee even that would be enough to save him.
Her mental and emotional turmoil was interrupted by the paramedic taking over holding pressure on the wound with fresh gauze.
Stella moved away towards Kelly’s head. She grabbed one of his hands, squeezed it, and leaned in close to him. “Don’t leave me, Kelly Severide. Don’t leave me.”
… … …
Stella had been alone in the waiting room for almost half an hour when the rest of 51 rolled in. They spotted Stella immediately and quickly hurried to her side. Brett and Violet, both now free of Severide’s blood, sat on either side of her and wrapped their arms around her.
“Any update?” Brett asked gently.
“They’re still working on him. Maggie said she’d update me as soon as she could.” Stella answered flatly. She was numb at this point. “Are Meagan and Ava ok?”
“PD took their statements and escorted them back to their apartments.” Boden shared, looking at Stella carefully. “Physically, they’ll both be fine. Mentally and emotionally, well…they’ve been connected with some resources to help them with that.”
Stella nodded. She understood that; they’d all be pretty messed up mentally and emotionally for a while. Seeing someone you love, a friend and teammate, bleeding out on the pavement will do that.
“What about the asshole who did this?”
“Cameras in the area caught the harassment and the stabbing, along with the guy’s face.” Mouch chimed in. “The officers on scene are looking for him and Trudy called Voight, so now Intelligence is involved as well. They’ll get him.”
Nodding, Stella went to say something else before jumping out of her seat at the sight of Maggie entering the waiting room.
“How is he?” Stella asked desperately.
“Dr. Marcel took him into surgery a few minutes ago. Scans confirmed the knife hit his spleen,” Maggie explained gently. It was always hard when a first responder was hurt but the entire Med team had soft spots for the firefighters of Firehouse 51. “He’ll be in surgery for a few hours. If you want to move up to the surgical waiting room, I’ll have someone keep you updated.”
“Thanks Maggie.”
… … …
It was several hours later, long past midnight, when Stella and the others got the news they had been desperately waiting to hear: Severide was out of surgery and would make a full recovery.
Dr. Marcel had been able to save his spleen but they’d be keeping a close eye on Kelly in the ICU for a few days to make sure no more bleeding occurred. Kelly also had to have several blood transfusions, so he’d be weaker than normal as his body recuperated.
He’d be off work for a while and would need PT and a lot of rest but he would heal.
Everyone in the waiting room was relieved, the stress of the night falling off of them. Stella once again had tears streaming down her face only this time, they were tears of joy.
“Thank you, Dr. Marcel.”
“You’re welcome,” Dr. Marcel said. He hugged Stella briefly then stepped back. “He’s in recovery now but they’ll be moving him to a room soon. Visiting hours are over but we’ll make it so you guys can see him for a minute. Stella, you’ll be able to stay overnight with him but the rest of you should go home and get some sleep.”
There were nods all around. After years as first responders, they were all seasoned pros regarding hospital and visitation guidelines. They were all just grateful they’d be able to see Severide.
Stella was thankful she was automatically given the green light to stay with Kelly in the ICU. She was prepared to do whatever it took to stay with her husband, hospital rules and visiting hours be damned.
… … …
It was a quiet night in Kelly’s ICU room. After seeing Kelly and saying goodbye to Stella, the other members of 51 headed home with the promise of returning later that day. Stella had settled into the chair by Kelly’s bed, grabbed his hand, and waited for him to wake up.
She ended up falling into a fitful sleep, the uncomfortable chair and constant interruptions from medical staff coming in to check on Kelly keeping her from getting more than an hour or so at a time. It certainly didn’t help that every time she closed her eyes, she saw her husband bleeding out in agonizing detail.
Those images were why she forced herself to stay awake, downing cups of crappy hospital coffee to try and avoid that nightmare as long as she could. She’d lived through it once; she didn’t want to experience it again.
It was, however, because of that very real nightmare and the fear and anxiety surrounding it, that Stella was wide awake when Kelly started moving the hand she was holding.
“Kelly?” Stella’s voice was gentle, but the emotion still rang clear. She stood from her chair to be closer to the bed, still gripping his hand. “You with me?”
The wait seemed painfully slow but eventually Stella was rewarded with the sight of Kelly’s beautiful blue eyes. Stella smiled her first real smile in hours as happy tears filled her eyes. She moved her free hand up to Kelly’s cheek. “There you are. How do you feel?”
Still groggy from a combination of blood loss, anesthesia-induced sleep, and pain meds, all Kelly could do was groan in response to Stella, making her chuckle. “That well, huh?”
“Yeah,” Kelly grumbled, his voice thick from being unused. Stella quickly poured him a cup of water and held the straw to his lips so he could drink. After a few sips, Stella took the cup away to keep him from overdoing it. “Meagan and Ava. Are they okay?”
“They’re fine, babe. You saved them.” Stella tried to keep her voice from cracking but the longer she looked at Kelly she was reminded of what had happened and she couldn’t stop the tears from falling. “You scared the hell out of me. Seeing you like that I thought…. I thought I was going to lose you.”
There wasn’t much Kelly could say because he knew how close he’d come to dying, to leaving Stella behind. Telling her he was okay wasn’t the best bet, given how horrible he felt, so he went in a different direction. “I’m sorry I scared you. I just, I saw that asshole messing with Meagan and Ava and I knew I had to do something. I just thought he was drunk… I didn’t think he’d have a knife.”
“I know.” Stella squeezed his hand. “You’re a good man Kelly Severide and I love you so much but please, don’t get stabbed again.”
“I will try my hardest not to,” Kelly chuckled, but it was quickly cut off by a groan.
Stella rubbed his arm soothingly and hit the call button on the wall behind his bed. He’d been awake long enough without a nurse or doctor coming in to check on him and it was clear to Stella that he needed some pain meds whether he said so or not. She could see it in his eyes.
It didn’t take long for a nurse to enter the room and Dr. Marcel followed soon after. He was pleased with what the monitors were showing and how Kelly’s incision looked. Dr. Marcel wasn’t ready to move him out of the ICU just yet, but things were looking promising. They hooked Kelly up to a pain pump so he could give himself a bolus of pain meds when he needed it.
With pain meds on board, Kelly fell back asleep quickly. Now that she wasn’t crippled with worry, Stella felt lighter. There was still fear and anxiety lurking in the shadows and she was sure the memories of last night would stay with them both for a long time, but Kelly would be okay and they would deal with it together.

OC NEW YEARS CHALLENGE 2023-2024
Day 4: Everything New
Naomi O'Brien had never considered herself unlucky. She had great parents, a fairly normal upbringing, and was always lucky with her academics, and found a great job at a daycare with the sweetest kids she could ask for each year. Then 2020 happens and things slowly begin to fall apart. Kids are becoming harder to handle, relationships fall apart faster than they began, and finally, a car accident that sends her to the hospital for a month. If it weren't for the cute paramedic who saved her and stopped by her room nearly every time she made a drop-off, Naomi might have just taken a three-month vacation to let the sudden bad luck wear off. Before she knows it, Violet Mikami has Naomi in a choke-hold and she finds herself visiting Firehouse 51, and, more importantly, visiting Violet.

i just wanted to add on to @chicagofires post about people saying stella lead grant on. some people just can’t put their one working brain cell to use and process what’s happens during this stella and grant storyline. so i will now give an entire timeline and my opinion because i feel the need to rant.
stella came to 51 already divorced from grant but still willing to try to make their relationship work. in that episode where brett was being stalked by the guy, stella, gabby, and brett were all brett’s house and stella was asked if she still loved grant and she said he had to show her something (or something like that). so even though they were divorced, stella was still willing to go back to grant while also simultaneously trying to help him.
when annabelle birthday party rolled around stella vouched for grant to herrmann to play at the party. but grant was a no-show. this was her breaking point and she finally decided to leave him for good. at the end of the episode she gave him the key and officially decided to leave him. and this is in a romantic sense. she was done romantically with him. but grant still wouldn’t leave her the hell alone after this. he showed up to the firehouse and brought her a sandwhich like he did when they were at the academy. completely ignoring that stella told him they were done. he also put a flyer on her car telling her to come to his band gig. when she didn’t come, he texted her to burn in hell and then immediately after told her he loved her. he also showed up to mollys and called her a whore because he saw her with kelly and said that she was just some bitch he used to nail. keep in mind they were MARRIED for years and he basically just said he just saw her as a way to have sex during their relationship.
then we saw grant texting stella while he was high telling her to come back to him. she was on shift and still very concerned for him. everyone ended up going to the park he OD’ed at. she even stayed with him in the hospital until he woke up. even when she was romantically done with him and after having telling him multiple times to leave her alone and he didn’t, she still cared enough to find him and stay with him at the hospital. when he woke up she told him he needs to get help and he yelled at her to leave. once she left you can hear him tell her to come back but she doesn’t.
then we all know he ends up leaving the hospital, breaking into her house and grabbing a knife probably with intentions to kill her right there. but stella ends up coming home with kelly and he listens to stella and kelly getting it on in her apartment. he ends up stalking her on shift and then trying to kill her at mollys. again, he called her a whore and tells her she needs help.
even after all he did, she’s still worried about him and goes to the hospital with him and helps to save him. he terrified her so bad but she still helped him. and she was still relieved he wasn’t dead. she had the chance to press charges but she didn’t. instead she just got him to admit he needs help and to go to a rehab facility. she also admits that she wouldn’t have made it out of her teenaged years with out and that she wished she could’ve been the one to help him.
like @chicagofires said, it takes an average of 7 times to leave an abuser and we saw stella try to leave multiple times. people say stella lead him on but she set her boundaries. it’s grant who didn’t care and continued to try to win her back. and despite all he did to her all she ever wanted in the end was to help him through his addiction. and that was because he helped her when she was a teenager. she felt like she had to save him after he saved her but grant wasn’t willing to admit he had a problem. and he was continuously hurting her.
whether or not you believe grant is the ex she was refering to in season 10 that was physically abusive to her is up to you (i still think she was talking about grant). but you can’t sit hear and read all of what i just wrote and tell me grant wasn’t emotionally or mentally or verbally abusive to stella because he was. what grant did after stella told him she was done is not what leaving a normal and healthy relationship should look like. he made her feel guilty for even trying to leave him. he absolutely drained stella. so to see people blame stella is heart breaking. and to hear people say that grant was the victim in their relationship and stella was the abuser who lead him on makes my blood boil.
