okay, the Rings of Power are questionable on a lot of fronts, and I think one aspect that a video essay on Youtube pointed out that stuck with me when watching it was how, despite saying they want to do their "own" interpretation of Tolkien, there are large swaths of the series that either mirror or lift directly from the Lord of the Rings Peter Jackson series, that honestly can never be topped.

So by copying dialogue and playing to the lowest common denominator (Someone watching going "HUR HUR HE SAID THE THING THAT WAS IN THE LOTR MOVIE"), it's always just going to come off as a shittier version of the Lord of the Rings films.

Fuck, Ralph Bakshi's LOTR wasn't even complete, but at least it was a different take on the materials, based on the books. And honestly? I think that's where in the second season, it has actually had a few moments so far, that while not even elaborated on in the books, is their own take, and makes sense in universe.

I actually thought the dwarf women singing to find the light in the mountains and using song to find the appropriate places to mine was quite clever- it makes sense in universe, and gives them a fucking job to do that logically traces from Tolkien's universe.

All we know in the appendices is that "it was said by Gimli that there are few Dwarf-women, probably no more than a third of the whole people." Being so few in number, they are sheltered inside, which is honestly, kind of adorable and sweet, because they need to be taken care of.

Literally in the books, only one Dwarven woman was named in Middle-earth's history, and it was Dís, Thorin's sister (Mother to Fíli and Kíli from The Hobbit), and royal. However, it would trace that if they were kept inside the mountains all the time, because they were so highly prized, they would develop skills aside from mining that would somehow aid their husbands.

Not for nothing but what's the damage with people being so negative about people who ship Armand and Daniel going a little nutty?

"Armand thinks of other things." Yeah no shit. Obviously. He's a complex character with an equally complex backstory. He's 514 years old, obviously there's more to him than how he's looking at one mortal man.

But also...Devil's Minion shippers get nothing. CONSISTENTLY. If you were in it from before the show (like I was) we got a chapter in the third book of a 13 book series. Daniel practically ceased to exist after book 3. Armand gets his own book and Daniel was literally a footnote in it and a negative one at that. And there's no real contact between them except maybe two passing sentences in two of the later books. Daniel isn't even mentioned in the last book of the series. We literally got a single chapter and after that, nothing.

We don't even have anything from the show except what's the equivalent of sucking on an ice cube to not totally dehydrate. That and the actors having fun about it in promo stuff. Hell, even if (and I hope the if is a when) they do ANYTHING with this pairing it likely won't be until S4 at the earliest, but realistically not until S5 (you know in 3-4 years if things are speedy).

This is the Louis and Lestat show. Obviously. They come first and that's how it should be. After that we have Armand and where he's concerned it's largely a character study that encompasses more than just his relationships. Obviously.

But ffs, leave people alone when all they have to go off of is some eye glaring. Eye glaring, mini little detail crumbs that could actually mean nothing, actors having fun, and a book chapter from 1988. I have my own Pepe Silvia crazy board and entertain myself based on practically nothing and I am aware that the likelihood of getting anything any time soon is slim at best. But I'm also gonna have fun with it on this the liking stuff and shipping stuff website. The hypothetical fun might literally be the only thing I get.

something a number of very wonderful authors have highlighted a lot in their fics is how permissive and even somewhat self sabotaging alastor gets with people he really likes, as demonstrated both by mimzy and, i believe, him almost dying for the hotel, and i've been utterly fascinated recently by alastor as someone who frequently conflates being used with being wanted/needed meeting vox, who will use anyone for any reason to get what he wants. alastor conceiving of himself as a provider, a protector, his independence enabled by the fact that he doesn't need anyone and everyone needs him—versus vox, who digs his claws in harder the more he loves someone, thinking of himself as a networker, someone who forges exploitative connections easy as breathing because he can't rest until he has his name on everything, even carved into your ribs. alastor loving getting to rescue vox from his little business mishaps, maybe not even noticing that vox hasn't really needed his assistance for years now; vox initially taking advantage to keep himself safe, and then just... never stopping, once he realized he could keep pressing that button forever and alastor would never get tired of playing knight in shining armor.

but maybe... vox got tired of the charade eventually. started calling on alastor less and less, wanting to distance himself from the idea that he needs a stronger overlord looking after him. finally having torn enough away from other people to stand on his own two feet, and desperate for it. and alastor, perceiving that as rejection, as endangering to his sense of self, as a threat to the narcissistic part of him that relished in always getting to be poor vox's powerful, dangerous savior. in this new light, vox's comments about the dying art of radio ring less lighthearted and more like a direct blow to alastor's self-perception, that something so integral to him could be forgotten and discarded so easily, and that makes him furious. maybe it would've even been the healthier move for anyone but them, but the toxic cycle of using and being used was their common language, the way they (and alastor moreso) structured the world and understood their places in it, and once they lost that it was all downhill from there

the early inquisiton party is so interesting to me because you have your inquisitor, who was just imprisoned by cassandra and accused of murdering the divine, you have solas, who cassandra threatened to execute as an apostate as she suspected he had something to do with the conclave, and then you have varric, who spent the entire second game being violently interrogated by cassandra and being accused of having something to do with the chantry exploding.

so, the thing you're concerned about losing? the ability to prevent someone from committing violence? that's already not a thing. it is not happening. the thing you're worried about losing HAS NEVER EXISTED. "but how will we stop violent criminals from hurting people" is the first thing out of anyone's mouth in response to the idea of prison abolition, but we already don't have a solution to that! that is NOT SOLVED! you can't see the violence anymore, but it is still happening! at the hands of the guards, if not these "violent criminals" you're so worried about, so the problem of violence IS NOT SOLVED by locking people up, do you understand? no one is locked up to keep them from hurting people, they are locked up to ensure they can only hurt people whose pain has been deemed acceptable.

instead of saying, "we can't abolish prisons because violent criminals will hurt people," please ask yourself: is the current violence against disenfranchised, systemically vulnerable people so much more acceptable to you than violence against the public that you will advocate against helping people, instead of hurting them?

I think the fact that we had two high profile actors have to take a step back from BL due to mental health issues in the last year alone and total 4 (krist james jimmy and chimon but also saint stepped back to bts and up also went that route before slowly dipping his feet back in) since I’ve gotten into this fandom should be an indicator that company’s need to be doing less not more.

When a company is doing 4 re-runs their teams are likely running on fumes and in a talent/ creator based industry you can’t just scale up endlessly resources are not unlimited. And sorry I took that so goddamn personally but burnout =/= incompetent.

They can’t just hire any fresh grad and expect them to work at the pace that the company needs them to. Even if they have talent they need to be trained and invested in and this has to happen at every level of production. There’s even a show coming out about it right now as we speak. Chuuya curses the red-black petals that fall from his lips, these nearly rotten things that tear him apart from the inside out. Part of him wants to rip his own traitorous heart out, through a ribcage shattered by feelings he can’t contain. Anger is easy, a thing he’s learned to control. This— whatever the hell this is— is not. Or at least it’s easier to feel as though this is beyond his own control, because Chuuya is not in love. (It feels like a lie even to himself.) After he's hit by a strange ability, Chuuya is forced to consider truths he'd much rather keep hidden- but not everything is as simple it seems.

People have also noticed how Dazai’s main muse for his volunteer hobby of polaroid photographer is the redhead himself. But the pranks they pull on each other isn’t much of a ‘best friend’ thing to do. Especially when one of the pranks get pulled so far, That Chuuya is forbidden from seeing Dazai ever again. And though he sees no good coming from such a forced separation, the one thing that can enhance their futures together is propelled forward at a faster speed than either of them could have ever imagined: Coming to terms with their unusual feelings for each other.

Then he sees things he never saw before. He sees horror, cruelty, needless suffering. He sees death in every step he takes. Chuuya is only human, too. Eventually, he breaks. OR, Chuuya leaves the Port Mafia and attempts to escape his bloodstained past.

(Or: Dazai and Chuuya's unconventional relationship sparks a radical change within Dazai when he wakes up one day under the weather and feeling very, very off.)

In which, Dazai and Chuuya are upto their old shenanigans and make a bet. As a result - Bonds are formed, secrets are revealed, money is spent, devious plans are concatenated; someone gets drugged, someone gets punched, someone gets a wakeup slap. And Chuuya's 'brute' image is at imminent risk. All of this - to with the bet!

Prey to Your Instincts by skylorr (Mature, 98k, 8/8) He was a beta. He was normal. Barely any scent, no cycles, no mating instincts. Just plain old normal. At least, that’s what he thought. He thought he was normal. But instead, Dazai is currently curled up on his single mattress in the shipping container that he calls home as he sweats profusely and struggles through cramps, pains, and the desire to nest. His mattress has a single thin blanket, which apparently does not satisfy the omega instincts trying to claw their way out of his mind. He was so close, too; days away from his 17th birthday, the birthday that would have officially made him a beta. Hope is a killer disease.

Cigarette Game by chowderpuff (Teen and Up Audiences, 9k, 2/2) Chuuya has a crush on Dazai. Dazai knows this, and he thinks it’s a prime opportunity to mess with his partner a little. After all, why not? Chuuya’s reactions to his flirting are priceless, a new little bonus feature to the game between them, and Dazai actually starts to find it more entertaining than outright arguing. It’s all harmless fun until Dazai realizes that he has feelings too. Then it's decidedly not.
