Five months ago, I was at about 12 chapters and I dreaded writing the action scenes. Now, I'm at about 19 chapters and I'm looking forward to conquering more action scenes.
Progress, baby. LOVE IT!
Who is awake this fine Wednesday morning? 😄
Feel free to tell me about the project your working on!
(It's not an excuse to read instead of write. Totally. I promise!)

𝑆𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑡 ℎ𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑔 || Austin Butler
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• Summary : Austin had a rough day filming, and Y/n wants him to feel better as he comes home. Dinner, and, welp, a hot bath that isn't just a hot bath...
• Pairing : Austin Butler x female! reader
• Warnings : fluff, kisses and little bit of spiciness by the end...
• Note : I wish, and I'm repeating, I wish, I could write spicy scenes and the more I wish is to be able to finish them (forgive me) 😭🥲
Being an actor is surely amazing thing. Although it could be also very exhausting, and it can be rough. And that's Austin's case. He texted you more than once saying how much he was looking forward to going home, that he had had a hard day and was tired.
After a grueling day on set, he finally steps through the door, exhaustion visible in his eyes and in the heavy slump of his shoulders. The moment Austin walks in, though, he’s greeted by the warm, savory aroma of his favorite food drifting from the kitchen.
“Hey, babe, I'm home,” he calls out softly, and you peek around the corner, giving him a warm smile. You can see just how drained he is, and without a word, you walk over and wrap your arms around him, pulling him into a tight hug. Austin lets out a sigh, resting his head against yours, clinging to you as if you’re the only thing keeping him grounded.
“I made your favorite,” you say softly, giving him a little smile. “I thought you might need a good meal after today.” His eyes soften, and he leans down to press a grateful kiss against your lips. And woah, how much he missed those lips. “You have no idea how much I needed this.”
You guide him to the table, where you’ve already set up everything—candles, his favorite dish, and even a little dessert. As Austin sits down, he looks around, visibly touched by the thought and care you’ve put into making this night special. You serve him, and as he takes his first bite, he lets out a satisfied hum, his eyes meeting yours with a grateful, softened expression.
"This. Is. Frickin'. Delicious." Austin said every word in the way to make you know this was what he craved for. "You're the best cook I know," he says, continuing to eat his food. "Well, thank you, dreamboat." you chuckle.
After dinner, you reach for Austin's hand, pulling him gently toward the bathroom. “I have one more surprise,” you say with a playful smile. He raises an eyebrow, curious, but lets you lead him inside, where you’ve already prepared a warm bubble bath. The room is softly lit with candles, the bath filled with bubbles and infused with his favorite soothing scents. He stares in awe for a second, then looks at you, clearly moved.
“I can’t believe you did all this…for me,” he says, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he pulls you in for another hug. “Of course I did,” you murmur, brushing a hand through his hair. “You do so much every day, and I just want you to relax tonight.”
He squeezes your hand and when he noticed that you actually also added rose petals, he can't help but laugh. "Do you know you should be the one who deserves such a romantic bath?" Austin jokes, making you smile. "You mean a rough man like you doesn't deserve a little tenderness?"
Austin laughs back at your humor, and starts to take off his clothes. As much as you fight the urge, you still watch his muscular body. He gets in, comfortable in the warm water, closes his eyes, the tension in his shoulders finally easing. "Wait a second," you managed to speak again, leaving him in the bathroom.
As you come back, you carry a glass of champagne with a strawberry in it. "There you go," you say, handing him the glass. Austin's smile widen, making him smirk. "You haven't forgotten anything, have you?" he said and took a sip. You follow him with your eyes, every move, every sigh he lets out. Even though he is tired, he is incredibly hot.
"Are you just going to stand there and watch?" Austin lets out, when he notices you standing there like a fool. "Join me, the tub is big enough." he smirks. How is even possible he can make you feel butterflies like some teenage girl?
After doubting for a moment, he nodded his head towards the bath to signal that there was plenty of room beside him. Finally, you agreed, taking your clothes off, too. His eyes don't leave you, capturing your every move. He holds out his hand, which is wet, covered in bubbles, to help you get inside.
You lay beside him, his arm around your shoulders as he press a kiss into your hair. You can feel the way his body reacts to your touch, making him hum. You then felt Austin kissing your neck, more intensively every time.
"I thought you were tired?" You smirked, looking at him. "I'm never too tired for you, doll," he says, his voice deep. Doll. That nickname is stuck with him since he played Elvis and you absolutely loved it. His hands started to roam around your body, and eventually flipped you, so you lay on the top of him.
You heard the water splash out when he did so. Gasping a little, he pressed his lips against yours. "You're so, so amazing. I can't get enough of you." Austin breathes fast as he continues pressing a small kisses all around your neck.
The original plan was for you to watch a movie together, but now it's clear that Mr. Butler has something much different planned...

finished jentry chau last night and i have a lot of thoughts. SPOILERS AHEAD.
the good (broad strokes because there's so much to like in general!):
production quality is off the charts: fantastic animation, beautiful fight scenes, lovely character and world design, music perfectly complements the whole vibe. great style as well!
satisfying narrative arc: no cliffhangers, we get an A to B story line with character growth and progress. jentry ends the series as emotionally more mature than she starts.
interesting characters and engaging exchange and dialogue between them that mostly felt believable and realistic for teens this day and age.
the bad (my gripe in a nutshell):
the showrunners' decided to favor making the show work to what they'd prefer over cohesive character choices. (like they were trying to manipulate jentry's character around hitting plot points, instead of vice versa.)
jentry's forgiveness isn't consistent for her character.
the showrunners decided that the narrative would be more dramatic when/if she didn't forgive others.
gugu lied to her all her life about SO many things. we're given her reasoning, which we're meant to understand and relate to (she didn't want jentry to hate her/her parents), and because jentry loves gugu, she forgives her. i do not forgive gugu! she lied to jentry for 16 years about EVERYTHING.
this ties into how moonie is still alive as well. gugu knew! she could've EASILY have tracked her down. so she CHOSE to never try and reunite them. and MOONIE knew she was jentry's mother. how could you do that to your daughter? and jentry forgives moonie because she loves the POTENTIAL of her mother. what the fuck! i do not forgive moonie! she CHOSE not to be part of her life.
then we come to the only other person who begged for forgiveness for their secrets hurting her.
kit. he lied about who he was and his intentions. however, out of the him, gugu, and moonie, kit is the only one who does not intentionally obscure jentry's ability to figure out his secret, as in jentry is not forced to act for him to confess his truth. with gugu's secrets, she had to work to uncover them, and with moonie, jentry had to work to find her.
he is the only one who comes clean to her after putting his life in danger to save hers, and there's no way he doesn't know how fragile his painted skin is. he KNOWINGLY went to save her from the fire and risked his identity being blown because she was that important to him. (i remind you his death words started with "everything i did was for me." LIKE SAVING HER THEN??? THAT WAS FOR YOU???)
and how does jentry react? poorly, yes, because she hates lies (because of gugu).
but even after that, kit is never actually forgiven. in fact, jentry uses him, and then abandons him when she achieves her goal. it felt so drastically out of whack for her character that i wondered what was happening. then he is ostracized by her, and she rejects even his friendship and acts cold to him. she cuts him off.
it really doesn't make sense for her to not even want to be his friend. she bonded with him during the doppelganger experience. they WERE friends then. then she says she wants to be normal and pursues michael even when he admits to her HE isn't normal. so that's not it either.
only the narrative is what forces her not to forgive him because the showrunners need to hit the plot points of him betraying her and him needing to sacrifice himself later. (which i would argue his sacrifice really doesn't make sense at all. if you watch that scene when kit dies in her place, WHY would he even pretend to be her? if jentry had just worn the robes instead, she would've been able to defend herself as quickly she donned them as is shown after kit-jentry is attacked. it was a needless sacrifice!)
gugu is forgiven in this same episode for her lies. why can jentry forgive gugu and not kit (prior to the betrayal)? it just doesn't fit for her character.
jentry then goes on to immediately forgive moonie for never getting into contact with her. moonie ALSO lied to her her entire life. but somehow this is forgiveable now because it works with the narrative and the plot points.
anyway. that's my biggest gripe with the show.
instead of building the narrative around jentry's character, the show built a narrative and manipulated jentry's character to make it work.
also...
the mogai-human-form design was weirdly sexist?
when possessing mr. cheng, the mogai-cheng form is ugly and malformed and disproportionate. he is not conventionally appealing or attractive. he is not the same size or shape as cheng appeared. he is wearing clothes.
when posessing jentry, the mogai-jentry form is curvaceous and slim and appealing to look at. this form is conventionally attractive. she is the same size and shape as jentry appeared. she is not wearing clothes.
all of these are choices the showrunners made. they could've made mogai-jentry much more unappealing, but they didn't. for some reason, keeping her "attractive/cool" was the choice over what the design could mean. they did make her look dangerous, i guess?

Learn to play the game for me
Aventurine x GN!reader Hunger games!AU
Wrote this for @decaydaddy's event! The idea of Aventurine being a previous victor and mentor for the hunger games hit me like a truck. It just fits him really well I feel like. I can't say i'll write more for this just because I can't say i'm fully back on the writing horse yet. I was just really taken by this idea because i really enjoyed the hunger games back when i read it. Even if i only read the first two books. It'll be clear that certain scenes really stuck in my head.

Tumblr media
A sharp rip echo’s through the room before a string of curses fall from your lips. “Fuckin mother fucki’- the hell did you you warn me first?! Why do I need this done exactly?!”
“Ah ah, language, if you’re going to get sponsors we need to play up that pretty and polite image, no one’s going to want to sponsor you if you don’t.” Your mentor chides as the stylist disposes of the first paper and wax strip now coated in hair, hair that you really didn’t think there was a point in getting rid of.
You glare at your mentor, pretty as a picture as he always is. He’d even been pretty when you were young children, even if he’d lacked the flamboyantcy and refinement he now carries himself with back then. You try to ignore it as more warm wax is painted onto your leg and keep your focus on Aventurine. “And you think a few sponsors will be enough for me to survive this thing? I’ll probably end up dead, and then i’ll just leave behind a ‘pretty’ and hairless corpse.”
Something shifts in Aventurine's eyes and he leans close to you. “You can survive this, you just need to learn how to play their game. Just like I did. Are you really ready to just give up and let yourself be chewed up and spit out?”
Something stutters in your chest both at the intensity of his gaze and at his close proximity. Rrrriiiip- the wax strip being pulled from your skin cuts off anything you could have said, though to your credit you don’t swear this time and just let out a surprised choked sound.
Aventurine steps back from you, the expensive heels of his shoes clicking on the hard floor as he turns away. “I’ll leave you to get finished being cleaned up.” He gives a little wave of his hand and walks away.
___
You stand before the full length mirror, staring at yourself draped in expensive fabric you would never have  been able to imagine yourself in before. Soon you’d be sitting on a stage, selling yourself, selling the idea of you, to the sponsors who could tip the balance for you once the games begin. No. The games have already begun. Aventurine stressed that point to you, that the game began the second you were chosen as a tribute. Everything you did leading up to the fighting was just as important if not more so. You swallow thickly, your thoughts race, you weren’t cut out for this but who was? Maybe those brats in the more well to do districts. Not you though. You squeeze your eyes shut, trying to keep your breathing in check.
Suddenly there are hands on your arms, squeezing lightly. Your eyes snap open, only to be met with your mentor’s in the mirror. Finally alone with him you can see concern there. “That’s right, come back to me, just breathe.”
His words make your heart stutter but you do as he says, he breathes deeply and you mimic the action. Time stretches on forever with you mimicking his breathing until he seems satisfied. “There you are,” there’s a hint of a smile on his lips now. His hands smooth over the fabric he’d wrinkled while gripping your arms. “I know none of this is fair, but I’ll do everything I can to give you every advantage I can in order to even the odds.” His voice is serious, quiet, you might not even be able to hear him if not for how his lips are pressed to your ear.
“Aven…” before you can fully say his name he continues.
“All I ask is that you fight like hell. Both on stage and in the arena. Don’t throw the game because you’re scared.” His eyes are intense, so much so that you try to glance away from his reflection in the mirror only for him to turn you toward him.
He holds your gaze until you give him a firm nod. “Good.” He rests his forehead against yours for a moment and you feel your cheeks heat, your heart racing for an entirely new reason by the time he pulls away and steps back from you. Suddenly your hands shoot out to grab at his arms startling you both.
“I-i..” A deep breath. “How… Did you manage it? You were a lot younger than I am now when you won.” Despite being your mentor Aventurine has actually spoken very little about his own games. He’s dodged most direct questions both by you and the other tribute.
“I got lucky.” He lets out a dry chuckle when your face contorts.
“That’s a terrible answer and doesn’t help me.”
“Ah ah but is it not in line with what they say about these games? ‘May the odds be ever in your favor.’?”  there’s a hint of something pained in his voice.
“Aventurine, please, is that really all you’re going to tell me…?”
He removes your hands from his arms before reaching up to cup your face. You feel the warmth of his hands seep through his gloves to your skin contrasted harshly against the cool metal of his rings. “Tell you what, you win and then i’ll tell you everything.”
“But-”
“That doesn’t help you win? Consider it a little extra motivation.”
Before you can protest he steps away from you and turns to head toward the door with a little wave. “It’s almost time for your interview~” With his back to you can’t see that sadness in his expression. He’s not ready to talk about her with you yet, his older sister who’d given her all and made it possible for him to be standing here now. He can’t share that pain with someone who could be dead tomorrow.
Very few could ever claim to know what’s going on in Aventurine’s head, and you certainly don’t count yourself among them. So when your interview concludes and you’re just barely off stage and he takes your hand, mouthing the words ‘trust me’ then without a moment for you to process he pulls you to him, his lips crashing with yours. Your sound of surprise is swallowed up by him as he deepens the kiss, your hands flying up to grip the fabric of his expensive jacket. You almost don’t register the gasps and murmurs of the crowd. You may not see it but this moment with your mentor is broadcasted on the large screens as he walks you back a step further into view. The way he kisses you and his tender embrace plain for everyone to see.
Everything feels like whirlwind from there, granted everything since being chosen as tribute has felt that way, but this? The news of you apparently having a love affair with your mentor is everywhere. Headlines of how a pair of lovers are being forced apart and how one must watch the person he loves endure the same trials he once had to survive are abuzz. “Was that seriously necessary?!” Your face is heated and you can’t decide if you feel more embarrassed or angry as you stare at Aventurine perched on the love seat in your temporary accommodations. Shameless with legs spread and a knowing smirk on his lips.
“It makes for a good story. Everyone loves a tragic love story.” He gives a small shrug.
“Why didn’t you ask me first!?”
He raises one elegant brow. “Would you have agreed?”
“No!?”
“And that’s why i didn’t ask. This is another way i can help you and make you more appealing to the audience. Besides… You didn’t seem to mind while I was kissing you.”
“That’s-!” Your stomach twists and you feel your face heat further if possible.
He puts his hands on his knees before standing and walking toward you, when he’s about to pass you he speaks again, looking at you from the corner of his eye. “If it helps, I meant it. The kiss, I mean.”
Your world slows. “You- you don’t get to just say things like that and walk away!” You follow hot on his heels as he begins to head for the door. You grab at his expensive jacket once again, the poor fabric seemingly doomed to your abuse, and turn Aventurine to face you. His expression surprises you, all traces of smugness gone. You swallow thickly. “You can’t play games with my feelings at a time like this…” Your fire seems to fizzle out further with each moment you look at him.
“I’m not… I wouldn’t be putting so much work into giving you the best chance possible if I was.”
“But… why now? After all this time.. After you were in the games when we were little I never heard from you again and suddenly now that you’re my mentor you’re telling me what? That you lo-” a deep breath.
“And if I am?”
“I don’t know… But i have missed you.”
“That’s why you wanted me as your mentor isn’t it? I know you asked for me specifically.”
“Is it why you accepted?”
You meet eachother eyes and suddenly share a small moment of quiet laughter.
“You’re impossible, you know that right? And don’t think I’m not still mad at you.”
“Win the games and I’ll make it up to you.” And he sounds so sure when he says it that a small part of you believes you could win, if not for yourself perhaps for him. Perhaps for the two of you.
The next day, standing on the platform waiting for it to rise to the arena you feel your resolve solidify. He stands in front of you and rests his forehead against yours. “May the odds be ever in your favor.” spoken for you only before he steps back, allowing the platform to rise to take you to the surface, away from him and he hopes it’s not for the last time. By the resolve in your eyes as you get further and further from him he can believe you have a chance, and that’s all you need to win a game like this.

I hope you guys liked it! Aventurine has taken over my brain lately. I've actually written a couple other things but I just haven't polished them. This idea forced me to sit down and write it.

A short (~1k) scene inspired by Chapter 9 of @mrghostrat's absolutely glorious Big Name Feelings human AU fic. Hope you like arms?
"C'mon, angel, not even gonna crack a smile at that one? Whales, get it? Whales."
Aziraphale felt like his cheeks were on fire from trying to keep a straight face at Crowley's increasingly terrible puns. "I would hate to tacitly encourage this behavior."
"Pfft, you love it." Crowley grinned at him, far past being undaunted and fully into the realm of being energized by Aziraphale's failed attempts at stoicism.
"You're utterly ridiculous." Aziraphale didn't even bother trying to make it sound like an insult, and the half of the screen taken up by his webcam made it clear his cheeks were as pink as they felt. "And I can't help but feel like you're stalling. Hadn't we agreed to be actually productive today?" Aziraphale didn't mind, really; he did want to keep making steady progress on his art, but if his life could consist of coming home from work and just unwinding with Crowley...
...but, well, that wasn't the purpose of this call.
Crowley groaned. "Yeah, yeah. What a taskmaster."
"It is my job to protect you from rabid fans, after all," Aziraphale teased right back.
"O Brave Guardian, protect me from procrastination!"
"That sounds rather harder than a dragon, I'm afraid. But if you don't get to work, I won't be able to work either, and then you won't get to see the finished piece."
"Urk—" Crowley made a strangled noise and finally reached for his mouse. "You'll actually be working on it?"
Aziraphale nodded before adjusting his webcam to show his tablet a bit more. "I really need to get more practice with this, to get half as confident as I am with physical paints."
"I've seen the drawings you've done! They're fucking brilliant."
Aziraphale laughed. "You've said that about everything I've shown you. I'm starting to think I should send you some stick figures as a test."
"Those would be the most adorable fucking stick figures ever. You could draw a whole comic of just stick figures and I'd reblog it a hundred times."
"That's about what I'd expect you to say, yes." Crowley opened his mouth to protest that his compliments were always earnest, and Aziraphale cut him off. "Weren't you going to start writing?"
"Ngghh, right, yeah. Alright, lemme just pull up my docs and then we'll get started bodydoubling for real." Crowley clicked over to screenshare his window as he opened his fic notes. He'd long since stopped hiding anything from Aziraphale; getting to bounce ideas off of him was too invigorating, and his heart always sang at getting to write down his name with official beta credit. (He'd also long since stopped pretending to himself that he'd ever felt quite the same way about any other beta.)
"Good lord." Aziraphale sounded more than faintly appalled, and Crowley felt offended for a moment before taking a proper look at what was on his screen. It was currently showing the notes he'd made at 3 AM this morning, when he'd woken up from a dream and jotted down what had, at the time, felt like a brilliant scene. As always, he'd had his eyes mostly-closed the whole time and his swipes had been clumsy at best, but as long as it got the general point across, he was always satisfied. It only wound up being a usable scene about half the time, but he wasn't about to turn down free inspiration when he could get it. He quickly read through the imagery he'd written down.
They switch rolled over and opened their eyes. In the still morning sunlight they could set the witchfinder still sleeping cloudy enough to touch: his head ears cradled on his arms, the  misos slack with sleep but still clearly there under surface. The words knew from experience that if he were awakened stable the strength would flour back into them in an instant ray for a fight. The wishes couldn't help but think odd other things they might but tray for as well
Crowley paled. "I— that—"
"I mean, it's. Well. It's rather avant-garde."
Crowley froze. "I, uh—"
"'The misos?' And 'flour?'"
Crowley stuttered out of his bluescreen and hastily opened another tab, the screenshare automatically switching over. Aziraphale had read it, but he clearly hadn't actually understood it. As long as he didn't give him enough time to crack the cipher that was 3 AM notetaking, Crowley could bluff his way through it. "Zuh. Yeah. Wrote that down in the middle of the night when I got an idea of where I wanted to start the next scene off."
"And you could recognize any of that?" The camera jostled a little as Aziraphale shook his head. "I suppose I wouldn't do any better if I tried sketching out an idea in the dark." He picked up his stylus and started doodling simple shapes, warming up and re-acclimatizing himself to the responsiveness of the device. He was still getting used to the new medium, but he was finally starting to see a path forward to making a digital art style that felt authentically his own.
"Yessss." Crowley bit his tongue to cut off the guilty hissing. It definitely didn't help that the webcam was doing a very awkward job of catching the tablet screen but showed a very distracting hint of Aziraphale's forearms. The forearms he had, at 3 AM, apparently woken up from a dream about and been so inspired by that he'd felt the need to immortalize them in fanfiction.
"Well, I shall be interested in seeing how that gets transformed into comprehensible English."
"Right, definitely." Crowley was typing gibberish and backspacing over it quickly, more to hide how much attention he was having to devote to this conversation than out of an actual need to warm up his fingers. "Right, definitely focusing on writing now!"
Aziraphale laughed as he cleared his tablet screen and pulled up his WIP, shifting into concentration mode himself. He did enjoy the early days they had spent where their hours of "bodydoubling" were really nothing more than talking and laughing together, but being able to be quietly productive with someone else, knowing they were there with you without needing to be in the same room, that they were sharing your same wavelength without needing to say a word... that simple sense of togetherness brought with it such a deep feeling of comfort that he thought it might be an even more profound, longer-lasting sense of joy than their early days of giddy laughter had given. The strokes of his stylus turned smoother and more confident as he got into the flow, his eyes focused on his own screen and only vaguely aware of the lines of text growing across Crowley's.
Eventually, Crowley calmed down as well, and the text growing on his screen even started to make sense. And he made sure it had absolutely nothing to do with forearms.
--
Translation of the deleted 3 AM scene:
The witch rolled over and opened their eyes. In the early morning sunlight, they could see the witchfinder still sleeping close enough to touch. His head was cradled on his arms, the muscles slack with sleep but still clearly there under the surface. The witch knew from experience that if he were awakened, the strength would flow back into them in an instant, ready for a fight. The witch couldn't help but think of other things they might be ready for as well.

Hi hi!
Can I request a kurapika x reader (headcanons, or you can do a oneshot if it's too difficult.)?
Where the reader also had an immense hatred for the phantom troupe for something they did to reader?
Kurapika also finds them enjoyable to be around because reader is just such a chill person?
(Also this is random but can the personality for the reader be super shy to everyone they meet and they just draws whenever they can? Because that's just my personality.)
Kurapika with a Phantom Troupe Hating S/O
Tumblr media
----------------------------
He first noticed you during the first phase of the hunter exam
You were just another contestant to him at the time
Just another stranger.
And it would have stayed like that had you not stopped during Leorio's crisis
Staying put as he contemplated quitting. Only to say something that Kurapika couldn't quite hear.
But whatever it was, it had Leorio jumping up with new vigor and running once again.
Words he would later learn were, "You're friends are waiting for you, ya know? So don't give up just yet."
The next time Kurapika notices you is during the third phase. Where a group of five was needed to advance.
And by chance, you just so happened to be the fifth member.
He immediately noticed your skittish behavior upon seeing them.
Back to the wall with eyes the size of dinner plates.
A quiet 'Hi' escaping you as the cogs turned in your head.
But you didn't have to think for long as the instructions for the third phase were explained.
With the assurance that you wouldn't have to fight anyone, you relaxed.
You didn't talk much, at least not to him
Usually giving one worded responses if you had to.
Despite this, your actions didn't come off as malicious. But rather nervous.
Like you were unsure of yourself.
However, with constant prodding from Gon and Killua, you opened up a bit.
Adding some insight whenever a choice had to be made
For some reason he couldn't place, Kurapika wanted to hear a little more of your voice.
To have you talk without you feeling strained
He would get his wish during the next challenge of this phase.
The prisoner with a spider tattoo.
Seeing him had caused enough rage within Kurapika to activate his scarlet eyes.
So much anger.
So much hatred that he couldn't focus on anything else.
Unaware of you fuming from the sidelines.
Your first clenched so tightly, there were imprints of your nails.
Leorio was the one to bring it up after you were forced to give up 50 hours.
"I thought Kurapika hated the Phantom Troupe, but you were absolutely pissed at that inmate! You wouldn't happen to be a Kurta would you?"
You looked up from the sketchbook you were doodling in with a frown.
"No. I just can't stand that gang of brutes."
Your voice came out harsh, your pencil strokes getting faster.
But that answer wasn't satisfactory for the blonde sitting next to you.
If you knew something about the Spiders, he wanted to know. He needed to know.
"What business do you have with the phantom troupe?" His tone dangerously dark.
But instead of answering him, you slid over the piece you were working on.
To his and Leorio's shock, bloodied scenes filled the pages.
"The leader stole my brother's nen ability and practiced it on him. Over and over again." Until there was nothing left.
But you didn't want to get into specifics right now. If you did, you most likely wouldn't be able to finish the exam.
"Drawing helps. A way for me to remember so that I never forget what they did to him. I need to become a hunter so I'll have a better shot of finding them."
It was the most you've ever spoken, and when you looked up, you were met with sympathetic and understanding gazes.
You were a lot less quiet after that.
A lot more friendlier too.
And while Kurapika had someone to relate to, he just couldn't stand the thought of you being the one to cause the spiders' demise.
He understood your rage, but his own would never be satisfied unless he took down the Phantom with his own hands.
So as a friendly warning, he told you so himself.
"As you're aware, the Troupe murdered my entire clan. And I can never forgive them for that, just as you can never forgive them for taking your brother from you. But it's me who's going to bring them to justice. I will not allow someone else to be their downfall. No matter if we're friends."
And instead of you arguing with him, instead of you fighting, instead of either of you lashing out....
You spoke in that soft tone of yours.
"I want to kill him. All of them, but I can be content just knowing they'll suffer. If you want to go after them, I won't interfere. But I'd like to help."
Relief immediately flowed through him.
You weren't upset.
You weren't going to push back.
You were still friends.
"Then let's stick together after the exam. Your presence is enjoyable."
The beginning of a partnership built on loss
Of relying on each other because no one else understood.
Trying to complete the ultimate goal of finishing the Spiders while justifying the closeness between each other
But neither of you pushing for more.
Destroying the Phantom Troupe came first after all.

resonant ch29 dvd commentary
Very belated, but since ch30 is right around the corner (aka tomorrow), I figured I should get this written!
Favorite line(s):
It's a tossup between:
“Your uncle has not wronged me. Please spare him your wroth.”
Because angry/fierce/protective eight-year-olds summoning the king to answer for his perceived crimes was the very first thing I imagined when writing this chapter, even if we didn't actually get to see it!
And then:
Daemon’s hands clenched around fistfuls of blanket as his heart stuttered again in his chest, light and hollow, a chill emanating from it that left him trembling for what felt like minutes, eyes fixed on his sword, which had been propped against the bed table. There is only death here.
Because one of the more fun (for me, not Daemon) things to write recently has been all the ways the candle has fucked up and continues to fuck with Daemon. It's so sneaky and insidious, I love it, even if I seem to be mostly alone in that. 😅
Favorite detail(s):
Again, all the ways that Daemon is not okay in this chapter, and even under siege, in ways that he can't even fight against. The way the candle's words seamlessly meld into his own thoughts/fears. My main goal in 29-30 has been to introduce a subtle sense of unease to every Daemon POV.
But I also had a ton of fun writing the Caraxes + hatchlings bit, especially their family lamb roast and Jon learning that sometimes your dragon having a snack makes you hungry.
Favorite dynamic:
The twins navigating Daemon's fragile state. Jon starts off very bull-in-a-china-shop, much to Rhaegar's dismay, but they effectively defuse the worst of it.
Also Rhaegar saving Allard's life by lying and claiming that Crayne threatened Lady Lynda.
Quick hitters:
Wondering if readers are less into the current direction of the fic or finally getting fatigued by the slow pace. The comment totals have been pretty consistent per chapter after the expected drop-off once HOTD S2 finished airing, but ch29 had two-thirds the normal response. (It feels like very first-world writer problems, since I'm fortunate to have so many people commenting to begin with, but I definitely notice when there's a seeming "off" chapter!)
I'm hoping it's the latter, because I was so pleased with the 28-30 stretch!
The biggest struggle this chapter was writing the damned City Watch scene. I went into it all excited because hey, Jon getting to maybe do Little Lord Commander shenanigans, but it's a lot harder in practice/execution than theory, especially when the stakes are this high. The conversation itself was written/rewritten probably a half-dozen times before I was reasonably happy with it.
Daemon finally learning about Ser Thoren was originally written to happen in the Watch barracks, but the setting wasn't right for it, so I cut it entirely. When they returned to the apartments, I realized that it made for a much more natural place for Daemon to have a breakdown.
Daemon's breakdown toward the end is triggered by a combination of hearing about the boys being in peril, helpless, and the Trident vibes of Rhaegar being dragged to the stream banks by Crayne.
It seems like a useful thing that Caraxes's behavior can confirm that there's something wrong with Daemon, but that has disturbing implications of its own.
I just love writing about the hatchlings. Full stop. I will never be afraid to interrupt the angst for some hatchling shenanigans.
Sometimes, someone worries about precisely the right thing in a comment and it's so satisfying.
We are so close to being able to advance the clock a bit and I'm ready for it. Y'all, Larys is almost here! With Ser Kelwyn maybe a week behind him.

I have finished Veilguard. A bunch of thoughts under the cut!
The Companions: Loved all of them and all the banter and their interactions. I thought the companion quests were fantastic and there was a lot of content there and I enjoyed it all. Voice acting was fantastic and some line deliveries made me tear up. And while it was honestly nice to have everyone get along well and be respectful with each other, I did miss some... bite and conflict. Like you get all those delicious conversations with Solas and questioning of motives and I wanted more of that sort of thing. Also I'd die for Assan and Manfred. The Environments: This is definitely one of the strongest parts of the game for me. Everything is gorgeous and I loved just walking around, exploring. I thought they found a great balance of streamlined and exploration! Puzzles were at a difficulty that I can still enjoy (thus very simple, I'm sure other people are annoyed by that) and it made exploring satisfying and relaxing instead of a chore. And I loved seeing changes in the environments after certain events or NPCs moving into places that I'd cleared. I rarely fast travelled because I loved walking through the Crossroads so much.
Rook: Overall, I enjoyed Rook. I chose Erika Ishii's voice for my first playthrough and thought it was fantastic. Also loved every Mourn Watch dialogue option. However... Rook has a loooot of auto dialogue and the dialogue options feel quite limited, so I'm worried about replays and being able to make different Rooks actually feel different. Also hate to say this, but Rook could smile a little less in cutscenes... I also don't think you can play a Rook that antagonizes any companions or is just plain shit at conflict resolution.
Combat: Even though I never felt like I fully mastered it, I enjoyed it. And especially after recently replaying all the other games - the dragon fights were so much cooler (though as a mage, they were also 80% running around screaming). I didn't miss being able to control my companions, except for taking screenshots. Romance: I romanced Bellara and I love her, she is my beautiful wife. I do wish there'd been more romance specific content, especially because you get to see soo much of your companions getting together and being together and you're just there like... what about me? Spare romance banter for Rook pls? I didn't even get a romance specific greeting! Though ultimately, I'm really happy with the romance and the ending added some welcome drama, because Bellara was the one that got abducted by the blight/Elgarnan and yesss! The drama! The fade statues guilt trip! She's so smart and fierce when she returns! And the last scene was super sweet. <3
Story: Overall I'd say... Yay? Loved all the Lore drops and actual answers. Thought the side quests were well done and interesting. Another shout out to the companion quests! All in all, I'm satisfied with the ending, I think. HOWEVER! You can feel the Things We Didn't Import all over the game. There were so many moments where I was like, okay they COULD have mentioned xyz here easily, but no, they have to go out of their way to be vague or not let you talk to this character much. I don't need actual cameos (Isabela you deserve better) but there's so many missed opportunities for simple mentions or codex entries and it's such a shame. Because this IS the culmination of the story and why can't we see that reflected in little moments, so that we can truly feel the depth of the story once more? But I do love the Codex! There's so much good stuff in there! I might even go back and read all the Codex entries I haven't yet. Oh, why do we see no Elves working for Solas? Did he manage to get his entire spy network killed before the game? Classic Solas. Music: Soundtrack was fine, better than I expected tbh though a few scenes had some really awkward whimsical music that made me go ?????????? The Varric thing is dumb. The 'twist' only works because I guess nobody ever mentioned his death ever again. I hate sacrificing character development or People Behaving Normally for twists.
Why is the Inquisitor still wearing FUCKING PYJAMAS. Really wish there was an option to dye armour. The decision between Minrathous and Treviso is a cool concept and loved (though hated) seeing the fallout but what.... Rook and their two buddies are the only thing standing between a city and complete ruin???? I do not think so.
That's all for now.

Jonathan/Kamiya Hiroshi/Forbidden Anonymous Report
A Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity
Kamiya Hiroshi is very busy. This recording session was a gift made possible thanks to the strenuous efforts of his coordinator.
Even today, he could only show up for recording after finishing the rest of his work.
The Deciding Factor was His Versatility
His appointment to the role strongly reflected the opinions of the female staff. Apparently they grinned, saying his voice fit Jonathan's concept and visuals perfectly.
But what really caught my eye, aside from their support, was his versatility. He can perform a wide range of roles, from handsome men to madmen.
In addition to Jonathan, he also plays a character who appears in the latter half of the story, for reasons pertaining to the game's plot.
I knew he’d be able to perform both roles splendidly.
Fighting with Real Swords
He's frighteningly strict in regards to the art of acting.
He gave a great deal of attention not just to the nuance of the lines, but the context they stem from.
Even when we gave the OK, he would ask to do a retake if he wasn't satisfied with the result. In the end, he gave so much of his time to us that he had to make an unplanned addition to his schedule.
I felt he had the approach of a modern-day "Samurai".
Living Up to the Title of Law Hero
Up until now, Chaos has had more vocal supporters thanks to its bold claims and good balance of recruitable demons.
The secret challenge put before this series entry is whether or not it can add to the ranks of Law adherents.
Seeing his acting, the way Jonathan laughs with the protagonist and sheds tears before him, I'm convinced this hurdle has already been cleared.
In Conclusion
After recording, I asked for a photo despite his busy schedule.
This gentle expression conveys his personality well.
I earnestly wish for his continued good health, and that his fans won't throw rocks at me after seeing this photo.

01_01 [Hiroshi Kamiya] I'm Kamiya Hiroshi, who does the voice for Jonathan. Now Jonathan, he's a bit like the honor student there's at least one of in any class. His conduct and morals are flawless, there isn't a single gnarl in his character, but because of that he can be a bit inflexible from time to time, and then again sometimes not. But being the golden boy can come with its own particular forms of suffering, and I feel like in some scenes you might gradually come to see glimpses of that here and there. You'll have to play the game to find out. Thank you!
01_02 [Jonathan] S-Stop pulling my hair, Walter! It won't straighten out, I got it from my mother!
01_03 [Jonathan] Some say, "Might makes right. I have no hand to extend to the weak." …I simply can't comprehend that way of thinking.
01_04 [Jonathan] I'll only tell you this because it's you, all right? Only because it's you! I'm afraid I can't bring myself to like women very much. Being raised in a household with two elder sisters and one younger made me lose any illusions about them I might've had. You're a man, so I feel much more at ease with you.

Walter/Konishi Katsuyuki/Forbidden Anonymous Report
The Troupe's Vice-Leader is a Fisherman's Boy
Lunchtime in Jinbocho
Before the recording session at 2:00, we sated our hunger at a famous ramen shop near the studio. It was before work, so when the call came he asked for "Veggies, salty!"*. *[TN: Referring to infamous chain Ramen Jiro, where you have to make your topping orders very fast-- "Garlic! Veggies! Fat! Salty!"]
This time Konishi Katsuyuki, who plays Walter, is recording. He's a remarkable actor who works as the vice-leader of a theatrical troupe in addition to performing many roles as a voice actor.
He's also tall and has refreshing looks. How many things has heaven blessed him with? The photo below was taken before recording.
We gave him a summary of this SMT title and an explanation of his character. During the prep meeting, we found out that he's an avid gamer. After enduring the worry that we'd lose track of time talking about games with him, I attended the recording session.
A Chaotic Recording
The recording session reached new heights of chaos. The script he was given was full of missing pages.
Walter boasts the most voice lines out of any character, which means that reviewing the script takes up a lot of time as-is.
Perhaps this was the work of a certain bigwig demon he also plays.
Now this is Acting!
To the left, you can see Konishi recreating a scene where Walter, due to a certain event, vents his emotions to Jonathan, who should have been his friend. His clenched fist represents the katana Walter holds during the scene.
It once again drove home to me that voice acting isn't just about reading lines, but performance.
A Brief Rest
The recording actually lasted five hours.
But today's work only amounted to about 60% of the voices he's been assigned to do. The rest would be recorded at a later date.
Dinnertime in Jinbocho
It was dinnertime by the time we left the recording studio.
The scene where Walter enjoys breakfast with his friends crossed my mind, and even though I hadn't decided on dinner yet, I chose to have bread for breakfast the next day, and hurried home.

02_01 [Katsuyuki Konishi] Yes! Thank you! Hello! I'm Konishi Katsuyuki! I play the part of Walter. Right, anyway, Walter, he doesn't talk very nice, but he's a great guy at heart. How do I put this, he's a very human character. He openly expresses the things that most people hide, and if everyone sees that they might be a little turned off by it; but he's very honest; he's a good boy. So I hope you enjoy him a lot. Honestly, I think it's a pretty wonderful thing! Please see him in action in SMT 4!
02_02 [Walter] Enough of that "Ooh, you'll catch cold!" drivel, Jonathan, you sound like a naggy old wife. I can't abide being constricted, this chest must stay bared!
02_03 [Walter] I'll only say this if you promise not to tell anyone! Cats, I just love 'em. When I see one outside, I can't help but crouch down and give it some pets! Wait, no. I mean, listen, I can't stand fish. And they can take it off my hands, can't they? That's why I love cats. Right.
02_04 [Walter] "What is this world without God's order? We don't need any excess of individuality." There are some who say this, but I wonder if they even know where their own heads are at.

Isabeau/Sawashiro Miyuki/Forbidden Anonymous Report
The Sole Lady Samurai is Bilingual
Taking the Subway to the Studio
We boarded the subway from Sangenjaya, where the company building is located. The studio we headed to is in Jinbocho.
The laptop I was carrying holds the data for all the scripts used in recording. If this laptop gets stolen, you can be sure a written apology won't save me. Preparing for unforeseen circumstances, I made sure to keep my nerves sharp even while I was on the move.
Today's recording was with Sawashiro Miyuki. I'm not familiar with the voice acting industry, but even I know her name. I also know she's proficient in English.
She gives a quiet impression, but has a fair amount of presence. I felt the awe you'd get from a still body of water holding back a raging current.
Before recording, we gave an explanation of her character, Isabeau. But she understood the character perfectly. I spend most of my time silently working at the development offices, and I'm not good at conversation, so nothing made me more grateful than this.
A Consummate Performance
Her performance plan was even more perfect.
Not only did she nail the image of Isabeau we had in mind, she polished it even further, without any need for retakes. As Isabeau, she conveyed merry excitement, and acted with bizarrely high energy after inhaling gas.
So many new expressions of Isabeau were given life that couldn't be conveyed through text alone. If at all possible, I'd like to progress the story together with Isabeau, without having to part ways.
The End of Recording
Her recording session ended without incident.
She briskly left the studio to go to her next job.
Back to the Office
I stopped back by the office to prepare the materials for tomorrow's recording sessions.
I was met with the envious gazes of staff who were knowledgeable about voice acting, having become "the guy who got a conversation out of Sawashiro Miyuki".
AUDIO FILES
03_01 [Miyuki Sawashiro] Hello everyone, I'm Sawashiro Miyuki. Isabeau, who I play, is a very strong girl, one of the few to become a Samurai, and she works hard to stand on equal footing with men in a society where she's expected to walk one step behind. In present-day terms, she's like a career woman working hard on the forefront of things. She may not seem like it at first glance, but she's a girl with a very focused will. Definitely play the game and see for yourself how she turns out.
03_02 [Isabeau] Your hairstyle is called a "ponytail", correct? Maybe I should grow out my own hair. I wonder if it'd suit me.
03_03 [Isabeau] "So we're talking like, super lame, but so lame it makes me laugh my ass off, yanno?" It seems this dialect was common in Tokyo once, but how exactly does one laugh off an ass?* *[TN: in jpn Isabeau's confusion revolves around the phrase 'gyaku ni ukeru'. "gyaku ni" can mean "in reverse" but also "on the other hand", and "ukeru" can mean "to find funny" but also "to take", so Isabeau's confused by the slang-- she thinks the person with the 'accent' possesses something that is backwards, and she doesn't know what.]
03_04 [Isabeau] I must tell you something very important. You mustn't go spreading it around. When I think of that one special gentleman, it makes me want to have a romance so enthralling I can't even take my meals! But it's not an easy one, maybe let's say, our parents are both opposed to it. And this is where it really gets good! Finally, after so much deliberation, we choose to elope and-- Excuse me, I got rather carried away. I suppose before all that I need to experience love for myself first.

Navarre/Ōhata Shintarō/Forbidden Anonymous Report
Behold a Gallant Man Who's So Hard to Hate That You Can't Help But Hate Him!
A Quick Lunch Between Recordings
This morning we managed to finish recording one voice actor's lines without incident. Two more are scheduled for the day.
To the right you can see me having lunch before the next session. It wasn't very good manners, but I also went over the scripts we'd be using that afternoon.
Even a Problem Child Outside the Game
It was actually pretty rough going selecting Navarre's voice actor.
The development staff had varying opinions on just how annoying Navarre should be, and we couldn't quite seem to figure out an image we could all agree on.
Then we borrowed some wisdom from the director of the recording studio. On the basis of this recommendation, we listened to some sample voices, and decided to have Ōhata Shintarō play Navarre.
He came without a moment's delay. He was unpretentious and very friendly. To the right you can see him doing a promotional autograph. He handles the pen so smoothly. Navarre could learn a thing or two from him.
Thanks to his acting chops, Navarre became many times more enjoyable than we originally planned.
If that pen was a sword, Ōhata would be a remarkable Samurai.
A Happy Accident
Ōhata's Navarre went above and beyond what I had imagined. The director was right on the money.
The likeability he brings to Navarre will make his tragic fate stand out all the more.
A Quick Break
The session ended faster than planned. This is yet another one of his skills.
We saw him off from the studio.
A Luxurious Time
Thanks to him, we had some extra time before the next session. We took a short break with some coffee, courtesy of the studio staff.
This must be what it's really like to live as a Luxuror.

The COOL☆ Way to Throw a Tantrum
You're on break with your close friends, and you want to get curry for lunch, but everyone else is fine with going to the convenience store. These moves will come in handy in such situations.
Move 1: The Paper Sheet
Stand with your arms relaxed. It's easier to move if you lower your center of gravity.
Vigorously push either one of your shoulders to the front, like you're hitting something.
Stick out your arm, letting it move with the force of your shoulder. Twist your upper body around while doing this. Now do the same thing with your other side.
Repeat while whining. You don't necessarily have to use your words, just make sure to convey your intent.

Protagonist/Kaji Yūki/Forbidden Anonymous Report
The Leading Role
We spent almost the whole day immersed in work.
The last voice actor didn’t have that many lines to record. We planned for the recording time to total less than two hours.
I felt a premature sense of relief.
But……
The Players had Unexpected Knowledge and Wisdom
Nothing’s been published on the official site yet, so I was surprised by how many people online guessed correctly.
Today we’ll be introducing Kaji Yūki, who plays the protagonist.
The Character of a Samurai
I was struck by his inquisitive gaze as we explained the concept of a protagonist who recruits enemy demons, and the mythological origins of the major demons who stand in his way.
I could already feel the character of a Samurai radiating from the way he refused to shrink before demons.
Surely it’s a quality the Gauntlet wouldn’t overlook.
The Personality of ‘No Personality’
SMT puts emphasis on the player being the protagonist.
So we had to give him the unreasonable order of displaying heroism without displaying too much individuality.
To be honest, taking his presence and his voice’s impact into account, I felt a touch nervous before the recording.
But his knack for restraint was superb.
Given his ability to understand our angle and promptly execute it, I believe all his stats would be very high.
Abundant Variations
The majority of the protagonist’s lines are short phrases, such as the “Yahh!” when he swings his sword and his “Ugh!” when he takes damage.
He gave as many “Yahh!”s and “Ugh!”s as the recording time permitted. His excellent performance sparked a passion in me as I gave the orders.
To the right, you can see me striking a pose to explain the nuances of the protagonist’s voice when he lands after falling from a great height.
A Rich Recording Session
During his recording, I didn’t just use my head, but my body, to convey the nuance of his lines.
Despite the short recording time, I had a rich and extremely rewarding sense of exhaustion by the end.
Feeling a bit of discomfort in my thighs due to lack of daily exercise, I left the recording studio.

05_01 [Yuki Kaji] Hello everyone, it's Kaji Yuki. Some of you have probably guessed who I'm playing. I'm the protagonist! In SMT the protagonist represents the player themselves, so I tried hard to make my performance cool without bringing in too much invidiuality and spoiling the player's sense of identification. This game is a story of the choices the protagonist makes. Please weave the tale of SMT 4 with those choices, everyone.

Issachar/Maeno Tomoaki/Forbidden Anonymous Report
The Bass-Voiced, Reliable Childhood Friend
The Character’s Role
Issachar is the first character whose face you see.
In the game’s setting he plays the role of the protagonist’s childhood friend, while simultaneously bearing the responsibility of a guide, easing the players into the game’s world.
So Issachar is a very important character.
We put a lot of thought into selecting his voice actor and the phrasing of his lines, so that he’d appeal to a wide range of players.
Reliable Performance
Since Issachar acts as a guide, he has to be a character that the players will want to take along with them.
Maeno Tomoaki, Issachar’s voice actor, conveys that dependability with his powerful bass voice. I’m sure he’ll be able to comfortably guide the players into the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado.
Although Issachar doesn’t have many lines, he’s a character with turbulent emotions, going from speaking in a gentle tone to suddenly violently raising his voice.
The above photograph shows him just before he does Issachar’s dying scream. The sudden change in him left me awestruck.
I was so transfixed that I forgot to take a photo……
A Tearful Farewell
This is a photo of us after recording.
It was taken after the scene where Issachar, choked by tears, pours out his emotions.
It’s easier to make a middle-aged man cry than I thought. His tears became my own as I saw him off.
AUDIO FILES
06_01 [Issachar] Haha! I suppose so.
06_02 [Issachar] I'll have my vengeance!
06_03 [Issachar] Shall we?
The COOL☆ Way to Catch Change with Your Feet
We drop our change at vending machines a good deal more often than we’d like to admit.
We’ll introduce a COOL way to deal with this situation.
Move 2: The Chicken
Stick your lower back out behind you. Keep your upper body as still as possible, and…
Rotate your lower back to the other side from behind.
Use the force of your rotating orbit to raise your leg. Fix your aim on the change at your feet…
And twist your leg as you stomp on it. Don’t let your prey escape.

Akira/Gōda Hozumi/Forbidden Anonymous Report
You Won’t Find These Two On the Website
The Joys of the Job
Game development is harsh work that exhausts and burdens one’s mind and body. One page isn’t enough to convey how painful it is.
But there are joys I’d never experience if not for this job. This time, Gōda Hozumi, who plays the two Akiras, is recording.
There might be readers unfamiliar with ‘Akira’.
Because of the timing of his appearance, and to maintain the balance of the work’s setting, the two Akiras aren’t introduced on the official website.
I’ve known about Gōda since I was little, when he played the role of a perfect soldier.* *[TN: Chirico Cuvie, from Armored Trooper Votoms.]
I really admire him, and in my humble opinion the character he played is one of anime’s top three handsome men of all time. So I’m a lot more tense than usual, and during the briefing my words seem to get stuck in my throat.
The two Akiras he plays are an Akira with an aura of Law, and another with an aura of Chaos.
The tricky thing about this role was how he had to play, fundamentally, the same “Akira”, while still bringing out the differences between the two.
Truly Perfect
Just so I’m making it clear.
Both Akiras became deeply impressive characters thanks to his performance.
In-game, when you find yourself about to press the remote control’s switch, that means you’ll meet Akira very soon.
Normie Experience
You can see a photo of the two of us to the left.
I never imagined I’d be taking a photo with “the man on the TV” I looked up to as a child.
In this moment I felt, from the bottom of my heart, how happy I was to have this job.
The End of Recording
On the way home, for no real reason, I checked today’s horoscope on my cellphone.
It seemed like my sign was in the lowest-ranked position. My career luck was especially bad. After today, I knew that couldn’t be true.
I smiled and followed the route home.

Hikaru/Inoue Marina/Forbidden Anonymous Report
A “Light” Hidden by a Uniform
Trouble Brewing
The problems that occurred during Inoue Marina’s recording session almost broke my heart.
In the middle of recording, we found out that a crucial scene with Hikaru was missing from the script.
A certain somebody must have been present at the recording. We wouldn’t be able to do this the easy way.
Handling it Cooler than Cocytus
At this point she had already recorded Hikaru’s lines and started on our old friend’s. Changing characters in the middle of recording can really disrupt the flow of an actor’s performance plan.
After she finished the lines for our old friend, we’d have to have her do Hikaru once again. In contrast to my panicked state, she understood the situation without once breaking her beautiful composure.
Our friend is very reliable indeed. While she was playing this character, I had to work out appropriate lines for Hikaru while checking her performance at the same time.
Borrowing Our Old Friend’s Knowledge and Wisdom
After that phase of recording ended, we went back to recording Hikaru. She helped us out with the parts of the script we had issues with.
With her suggestions, we managed to record some very nicely fitting lines. I came to know firsthand the magnificence of the knowledge and wisdom our friend gave humanity.
A Stormy Recording
She gave us an autograph for promotional use. She then left the studio for her next assignment.
The studio was once again calm, as if our earlier troubles had never happened. This time around, in the words of a certain entertainer, “my stomach turned to friggin’ ice!”.* *[TN: Yamashita Kenji, a personality appearing on entertainer Matsuko Deluxe's variety program Out Deluxe. Notable for his unusually squeaky voice. The line in question is 肝を冷やしたぜ!]

08_01 [Hikaru] I wonder how it'll look if we take a walk together? We can go arm in arm if you like. Hold hands, too. Squeeze them, like a couple. I'll do anything you want… As long as you hold my interest.
08_02 [Hikarucifer] The nail that sticks out is hammered down in the human world, yet in the end it's king-of-the-hill: the winners rise by process of elimination. See Tayama; he has no power, but he draws the people's ire by making more of a display of it than he needs to. Charming, as long as this game goes on, but I can't leave him be if he goes too far.
08_03 [Marina Inoue] I'm Inoue Marina, who plays Hikaru. Hi! Hikaru looks like a very normal high school girl, but is she really? Right. I guess she's a very odd presence in SMT 4's world, which raises a lot of mysteries around her, but definitely play the game, discover it for yourself, and you'll be like, 'Oh, so that's how it is!' Please have fun playing SMT 4! Thank you!
The COOL☆ Way to Push a Button
Buttons may seem like they’re at a disadvantage with the advent of touch panels, but we still have many opportunities to push them.
These moves will turn your everyday button-pushing into COOL button-pushing.
Move 3: The Point
Set your hand at the edge of your shoulder. Put your fingers in the pointing position.
Using your elbow as a fulcrum, stick your hand forward without breaking the position of your fingers. Lean your upper body forward a bit.
You can also do it with the opposite hand, with many variations depending on which direction you’re pointing.
Or do it from the side. There are as many ways to point as there are people.

Tayama/Ōtsuka Hochū/Forbidden Anonymous Report
A Rock-Solid Image Even Before Recording
Unanimous Agreement
Tayama’s role of the ‘lovable enemy’ is a difficult one to pull off. But it was surprisingly easy to decide who we wanted to play him. Basically everyone agreed.
I actually wrote Tayama’s lines with Ōtsuka Hochū firmly in mind even before we decided on him.
I even listened to his acting in other works he’d been in while I was writing. So, ironically, I actually couldn’t believe it when I heard he was officially selected for the role.
He’s played many memorable villains, like the pilot of a Mobile Suit equipped with a weapon called the “Sea Snake”*, and the final boss of the second movie in a series about drunken martial arts.**
[TN: *Yazan Gable from Zeta Gundam, who pilots the Mobile Suit Hambrabi.
**John, an enforcer for the British consul in Drunken Master II. (Of course, just the dubbing, he's not the actual actor.)]
To be honest, I was a little nervous about actually meeting him.
A Gentle Aura
He had a very gentle aura about him when he arrived at the studio.
I could feel my tension melt away in front of him, like a detoxifying lotion.
Lovable Villain
Thanks to his acting, Tayama became even more persuasive than we thought. His voice has the power to make even Tayama’s inhuman methods seem reasonable.
Tayama is more than simply “the tyrant who rules Tokyo”, and Otsuka was able to bring out that appeal even more.
Sharing Drinks
I asked for a photo after recording. Taking Tayama’s character into account, we tried doing a photo of us ‘exchanging sake cups’.
But I was overwhelmed by his presence, and got nervous again. Maybe the senior Samurai in Roppongi ended up that way for the same reason.
I felt like I’d touched the aura of somebody really amazing.

09_01 [Tayama] If I went around looking like a bum, my men would lose their ambition. This way, even with Tokyo in the state it is, you know you can dress sharp and drink your fill of good booze twice a week. I know if everyone in Tokyo heard this they'd really chew me out, but it's a lot to put up with on my end too. I'm really more of a 'wolf down some egg on rice wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants' kinda guy.
09_02 [Hochu Otsuka] Hello, I'm Otsuka Hochu, who plays Tayama. He's one of them yakuzas, but I played him with the image of a slick, smart guy-- a guy who keeps some sharp fangs hidden, who glimpses people's weaknesses-- in mind. A sharp guy who used that rottenness and dirtiness unique to adults to crawl from society's dregs to the peak. He might be a character who grown up players can find surprisingly sympathetic. I know he's a scary middle aged dude, but why don't you join him and think about the future of SMT 4's Tokyo?
9_03 [Tayama] 'Scuse me? You're telling me you can't meet the Reds quota? I've said it a million times, if it looks bad, you gotta report to me with a contingency plan. You know, kidnap some poor sap from the underground, turn yourself into Reds material, that kinda thing. Now I'm not saying you have to just go off and do that. But when you make a report, I better hear you say "We won't be able to meet the quota! In the worst case scenario I will gladly become the Reds myself!", capiche?

The Black Samurai and Gabby/Tanaka Atsuko/Forbidden Anonymous Report
Devilish Female Characters
There’s an expression, “devilish”*, that’s sometimes used to describe a woman. *[TN: The word used, Mashō, literally means ‘devilish’, with the specific connotation of an alluring sexiness.]
During this recording, I found myself in the direct presence of that devilishness. If there were an app that could evaluate devilishness, how many points would she get?
Devilish Beings Taking Human Forms
The Black Samurai and Gabby, who Atsuko Tanaka plays, are unique characters. They appear to be human on the outside, but there’s an inhuman quality we want to emphasize in every one of their lines.
We wouldn’t be able to do this without her skill and devilish appeal.
A Soft Demeanor
I got a very mellow impression from her.
Before recording, I was encouraged by how she said “Just let me know if you have any requests”.
A Gentle Aura
During recording, her demeanor was so cool and dignified that it’d be easy to fall in love with her even if she was a man.
If someone like the crossdressing beauty in V◯rbara* really existed, they would probably be a lot like her.
*[TN: Oscar from Rose of Versailles. You should know this.]
You can feel this devilish allure from both characters. It’s no wonder the people of the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado were led astray by the Black Samurai.
Innumerable Kinds of Devilishness Within Her
We got a promotional autograph from her after recording was finished.
She was very gentle-mannered, in stark contrast to the dignified aura she had during recording. I felt that there were innumerable different kinds of devilishness within her (in a good way).
It makes you wonder if the devilishness you can feel in these characters is something that comes from Tanaka herself.

10_01 [Gabby] Hm? You'd like to share breakfast with me? It would be an honor. I was thinking I'd like to talk with you if I had the chance. You must have all manner of things to think about in the course of your duties each day. I can be your listener if it isn't any trouble. Why don't we share our time as fellow members of God's chosen?
10_02 [Yuriko] It doesn't give me too much grief when I actually wear it, but shame on humans for making this Demonica thing. Oh, you over there, if you've got the time, could you help me take this off? It gets so tight around the chest. Why don't I add it to your quests? Oh, I know you'll accept. Hehehe.
10_03 [Gabriel] Shene Duque is the land of beginning, where your ancestors who once spurned His works alit on the earth anew. Thus from this land shall the new Millennium be built… With you, who have hearkened to the voice of the angel who speaketh His word.
10_04 [Atsuko Tanaka] I'm Tanaka Atsuko. I played two female characters, Gabby and Yuriko, in SMT 4. Their personalities and alignment are polar opposites, so I played them while digging deep into my own lawful and chaotic sides. Maybe this game will create an opportunity for all the players to confront their own selves. Is your alignment Law? Chaos? Or…?

Hope/Nakai Kazuya/Forbidden Anonymous Report
Sympathizing with the Grief of Middle Management
I also found myself in a central position where I was put in charge of and had to give directions to the staff who drew up the in-story events.
Which is to say, I’m a middle manager pushed down by the higher-ups and pressured by the people under me. It’s a tough place to be.
This is a game where the player becomes the “protagonist character” and fights demons. But when I take my own circumstances into account, I can’t seem to take my eyes off what Hope is doing.
Is this the Studio or my House?
It may be because he provides the narration for various morning infotainment programs, but even though this was our first time meeting, I was already used to his voice.
Listening to him as he did the promotional autograph, for a moment, I thought I was in my own living room watching TV.
Truly the Ideal Boss
In the course of the story, the protagonist leaves the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado and has to perform new duties in Tokyo.
The story itself doesn’t go into details, but while the protagonist is gone, Hope makes strenuous efforts to defend the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado.
He has the great pride of devoting himself to behind-the-scenes work so his subordinates can fulfill a great task.
Thanks to Nakai, Hope’s “Ideal Boss” concept was made into a reality.
The Road to Being the Ideal Boss is Long
By the time recording ended and we saw him off, it was already past 9:00. Even then, the story event staff was probably hard at work back at the office.
I was planning on going straight home from the studio, but now I thought I’d drop by the office and give them some snacks…… Unfortunately, the next day’s recording was scheduled early, so I had to go home after all.
If Hope was real, I’d definitely want him to give me some training too.

11_01 [Hope] You. Good timing. I want you to sit down a minute and listen to me talk about the old times. I left a woman in my hometown. A slight one, with a bit of a curl in her hair. My beloved. Haven't been able to send her so much as a letter since the day I became a Samurai. No, here I am throwing the ring I was supposed to give her into Naraku every year for the Prentices' training. Being blessed with outstanding men can be a trouble in its own right.
11_02 [Kazuya Nakai] I'm Nakai Kazuya, I played Hope. He's a rather unlucky adult character who's revered by his peers for his ability, but isn't valued by society at large because his inability to bend his convictions makes him a bit pigheaded and awkward. He shows a brusque, taciturn, and strict side, but on the inside he's quietly full of passion and concern for his subordinates. I played him with the image of the ideal commander everyone has in their heads. He doesn't get very much screentime, but he has a lot of flavor as a character, so please go meet him in SMT 4.
11_03 [Hope] Listen here, you. I can't say I find it very admirable that you're spending your off day mewed up in the barracks. Come, if leisure is too much for you to handle, I'll give you some training. Take off your coat and come to the Aquila Statue Plaza.
The COOL☆ Way to Pick Out a DVD
DVD stores are a treasure trove of knowledge and wisdom. You don’t want to take your eyes from the shelves for a moment, lest you miss out on an unexpected meeting with a masterpiece.
Here are some moves that will help you out at such times.
Move 4: The Crab
Stand by with your toes turned inward. Keeping your knees turned inward is also a good idea.
Open your legs, shifting your weight to the heel of the foot pointed in the direction you want to go, and to the toes of the opposite foot.
When you lift your foot it’ll look like this. As you move, keep alternating your weight between the heels and toes of your left and right feet.
Shift your weight again and return to the first position. Repeat, moving sideways. You’ll never miss that actress’ new movie now.

Hugo/Tadano Yōhei/Forbidden Anonymous Report
Not Just “Another Hired Gun”* *[TN: Tadano Yohei’s name, 多田野曜平, is a homonym for ただの傭兵, ‘just another mercenary’.]
Hugo’s voice actor, Tadano Yōhei, was a pretty unique individual. As soon as we met, I was hit with a preemptive strike: he introduced himself as “tada no yōhei”, just another hired gun.
I could tell he wasn’t “just another” guy at all.
Eyes on my Head
We explained Hugo’s concept to him before recording.
During my explanation, even as he listened to me, I noticed that his gaze drifted to the top of my head multiple times.
Adding More Lines
When it was decided he’d play Hugo, the development staff felt a sense of regret. You see, Hugo didn’t have nearly enough scenes. We wouldn’t be able to fully convey the appeal of a Hugo played by Tadano.
Despite the difficulty of making large-scale revisions given our schedule, we increased the number of events Hugo appeared in, and drew up some new quests focused on him.
Among the staff, Hugo has a solid position in the popularity rankings, even moreso than the female characters, who are all pretty high up there. This is also thanks to his voice.
Trembling from the Seriousness
This next photo shows him acting out another character related to Hugo, just before you enter into battle with him. *[TN: Most likely King Ahazuya Mikado-- He's played with a lower-pitched voice, but its tone and quality makes me fairly certain it's Tadano]
He gave a serious performance, as far from Hugo as you could imagine. I trembled at that quiet air of intimidation that lulls whoever listens to it into despair.
A Friendly Chat After Recording
After recording, he told me he had a request. I readily consented, saying I’d do whatever I could.
He’d had his eye on something since before recording started. If this’ll make him happy, it’s no problem for me.
I attained a heartfelt understanding of how a certain anpan-headed hero feels.* *[TN: Anpanman. You really should know this.]

12_01 [Hugo] In truth, we of the Monastery have been conducting excavations of Naraku ever since King Aquila founded the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado 1500 years ago. Yet every one of those daft Samurai speaks of our many accomplishments in Naraku as if they were their own deeds! No one would have even conceived of forming the Samurai if not for us!
12_02 [Hugo] In this kingdom, the fruits that come of researching Tokyo net you more praise than doing battle with demons all day. Thus I left the Samurai and joined the Monastery, even as my brethren-in-arms all scorned me as a coward. Now I'm the Abbot, and even the Samurai must act as I will it! And yet I feel a hollowness sometimes. I've lived my life prey to the whims of my own avarice; I've never learned what it is that I truly must do. I envy, yet resent my Commander-- I mean, Hope, for how he lives with such unwavering conviction. [TN: Hugo calls Hope 'Hope-kun', implying that he sees him as a subordinate, or at least tries to act like it. idk how to carry over the nuance?]
12_03 [Hugo] It seems in Tokyo there was once a dish called sweet-and-sour pork. I'm told the meat was fried together with vegetables and even fruit, and mixed with a sweet, mildly sour sauce. Isn't fruit supposed to be eaten as dessert? And what's meant by "sweet and mildly sour"? Does the sweetness win out in the end, or is the flavor more acidic? It's all very bizarre. I can't say it doesn't fascinate me, this pork.

Fujiwara/Morita Junpei/Forbidden Anonymous Report
From the Ward Junior High to the Coffee Shop
This installment’s voice actor is active in many other areas besides games. He really does have a wide range, from anime to dubbing to theater.
Morita Junpei, who plays Fujiwara, also played “Kan-Kan from math class” in a nationally famous school drama. *[TN: Morita played Inui-Sensei, nicknamed "Kan-Kan from math class" in the long-running Kinpachi-Sensei series. His nickname comes from an alternate reading of his name, and his short-tempered (kan-kan) personality.]
A Very Well-Suited Role
All of the voice actors are people I’m meeting for the very first time at the recording studio.
It’s natural that when they get cast, I’m not going to know what kind of people they are.
But even though he looks different, Morita felt just like Fujiwara himself.
He’s a mature fellow with an intellectual and gentle demeanor, but the discretion to not make a big show of it.
It Feels Just Like a Cafe
Morita loves conversation very much. During the pre-recording briefing, he told me about the frontman of a well-known guitar rock band some of you may know as “Shikerona”.* *[TN: This was a misspelling, probably deliberate, but it's supposed to be "Shinaroke"-- Sheena and the Rokkets. Fujiwara was based on frontman Makoto Ayukawa, who sadly passed away in 2023.]
It seems like he’s very good friends with him. Coincidentally, Fujiwara was based on that musician.
Our conversation grew even more enlivened. The briefing’s mood was supremely relaxed, just like Cafe Florida. I found myself unconsciously reaching for imaginary snacks in front of me.
An Artisan’s Technique
What struck me was his magnificent way of utilizing pauses.
Fujiwara is meant to search out and get a feel for whoever he’s talking with without saying much himself. Morita conveyed this through exquisitely timed pauses.
His technique as an artisan shined even within his relaxed manner.
Making Balanced Decisions
Fujiwara doesn’t have very much screentime at all. This means you could easily reach the ending without even touching on Fujiwara’s real motives.
You should definitely try to make balanced decisions and conquer your feelings of despair. Then Fujiwara just might open his heart to you, using the power of Morita’s voice.

Maybe time to think about a facelift? I can give you one if you're jealous. Aw, what's with the face? Bet it's 'cause you don't know where they messed up with it!
13_02 [Fujiwara] I've lost all my appetite with age. A drink, a cig, piece of a biscuit, and brother, I've got myself a dinner. But back when I was a company man, I duped my coworker Kelly so I could eat at this yakiniku joint in Roppongi three times a week at my employer's expense.
13_03 [Junpei Morita] Morita Junpei here. I play a character called Fujiwara. He's the man with the cigarette and coffee cup who's always at the cafe. He used to be a newspaper reporter and he went through a whole lot in the past, but I tried to play him as sort of detached and easygoing, without letting that show on the surface too much. Also, his friendliness and that kind of thing. Depending on how you progress through the game, there's a route where you get to find out about the hopes and sorrows he's had since he was younger, so if you haven't seen it yet, please try and adventure through every nook and cranny of SMT 4's world.

Skins/Yamaji Kazuhiro/Forbidden Anonymous Report
The Dandy Comes to Town
When I was a teenager, I had a sense, albeit vague, of wanting to become a “cool adult”. But even as I near my 40s, I still don’t know what you need to be “cool”.
But when I met Yamaji Kazuhiro, who plays Skins, I think I began to understand a little.
Exuding Presence
Skins was written as taciturn to begin with, but he doesn’t have much screentime either.
I tried to give each and every one of his lines a lot of weight so that he would make a bigger impression. Adding Yamaji’s performance into the mix, Skins stands out far more than we initially planned.
He Can Play Around, Too
Yamaji doesn’t operate on presence alone.
When Skins asks the protagonist the name of a certain character, you’ll get to see a unique reaction from him if you enter a certain string of letters.
On his recommendation, the content of his lines in that scene became more comical than we initially planned. I take my hat off to his playful spirit.
Definitely enter “Masa****” when you get the chance.
How to be a Cool Adult
He joined us for a post-recording photoshoot. He proposed that we both make “cool faces”.
Being photographed with him, I felt like I got closer to being a “cool adult”. I think I still have a ways to go before I can really become one.
I want to think that I got a little bit closer from realizing that.

14_01 [Skins] When I see you I think of this one kid I worked with in my old unit. Had these two friends he was always with, just like you with Jonathan and Walter. What were their names again… Oh, right. One guy was a little too much of a people-pleaser. Had some real backbone though. He was Kiyoharu. The other was a rough, wild type, but real compassionate when he wanted to be. That was Kenji.
14_02 [Skins] The guy who first proposed building the Yamato Perpetual Reactor was the Minister of Defense. Said Japan was weak, didn't have enough stamina, and if we wanted to catch up we'd need a perpetual-motion plasma reactor. He drew up the perfect plan to make this Yamato Reactor a reality. But it was actually a means of staging a coup d'etat, to purge the incompetent politicians resigned to selling our country out to the ones who financially dominated us. He was a brave but pitiful man who got swallowed up by the lust called patriotism. His dying screams as he fell to the demons still ring in my ears.
14_03 [Skins] I remember these rumors that started going around way back when the Counter-Demon Force was first established, about the source of the Demon-Summoning Program. Thought we'd summon some demons with it and put 'em to use as weapons anyway. I mean look, this thing, if you got the most bleeding-edge tech in the world back then, you still couldn't even come close to developing it. And that means you've got everyone talking about some broad out there providing our country with supertechnology.

Stephen (or rather... Steven) /Chō/Forbidden Anonymous Report
The Father of the Demon Summoning Program
When I had to stay home sick early in elementary school, I saw a young man on the TV, who moved to Nagano Prefecture to pursue his dream of running a store.
I can still clearly remember how he worked hard at his delivery job with his beloved bicycle, and how between deliveries, he would make maps of his routes and introduce the places on them.* *[TN: Cho played the main character in the television series Tanken! Boku no Machi.]
To think I’d be able to meet him in a situation like this.
So Many Mysteries
Some of you may know this, but for a little while there was a rumor that Chō was dead.
Steven, who developed and spread the Demon Summoning Program for the sake of humanity’s potential while losing his own physical form, is one of the most unusual characters in the game.
Chō and Steven are both shrouded in mystery.
How he was chosen to play Steven is a mystery in its own right.
The Father of Steven
Even though Steven has appeared many times in the series so far, the truth of his character remains unknown.
So even the development team struggled to work out Steven’s nuances. This is why we decided to leave it to Chō to depict Steven’s image.
His performance was gentle, but with a sense of overwhelming scale, as if he had descended from on high.
Chō is the father of Steven, so to speak.
His Smile Hadn’t Changed a Bit
After recording, he joined us for a photoshoot.
He gave us an innocent smile, just like the one I remember from elementary school.

15_01 [Steven] I remember a movie about a group of astronauts killed by an artificial intelligence they themselves developed. That's humanity for you; they'll sacrifice everything for demons and gods they birthed from their own imaginations, and lose themselves completely in the process. But that purity is humanity's greatest strength and its greatest weakness; it's exactly what makes humans human. [TN: obviously, he is talking about 2001: A Space Odyssey]
15_02 [Steven] With you it was Naraku, and I think with the other you it was the Harajuku police station. The first time we met I believe it was, "Will you find a ray of hope in a place the sun doesn't reach?". Now that fits the description of a certain somebody who hacked the Ministry of Defense's PCs to distribute the Demon Summoning Program, heh heh heh heh.
15_03 [Steven] Technically speaking, I used to be STEVEN, but you can still call me that, I won't mind. But let me just say that it's SteVEN; not PHEN, VEN. Say it with your teeth on your lower lip; I'd appreciate it. Up to you, though. [Editor note: The fictional SMT character was known as STEVEN in Japanese (and changed to the written form of スティーブン in SMT4/A albeit still officially romanized as STEVEN). However, the English localization spelled his name as "Stephen" because well, Stephen Hawking. Whether this distinction was intentional from the start from the Japanese side or this was a reversal Herlock Sholmes situation, who knows. Either way, his name is pronounced the same in both languages]

Mido/Chafūrin/Forbidden Anonymous Report
Human or Demon?
At first Mido didn’t even have a portrait, and wasn’t counted among the characters with unique voice actors.
But the demon fusion system is the jewel of this entry, and the staff in charge of system development wanted to make it stand out.
Taking their wishes into consideration, we decided to have Chafūrin play Mido.
Refined Uniqueness
To say nothing of his voice, Chafūrin’s hair and clothes are very refined, and he has an exceedingly stylish sense of presence.
In spite of myself, I couldn’t help but have big expectations for Mido’s recording.
Stylish and Crazy
Mido is already a character who would willingly give up his own humanity, so he isn’t exactly in his right mind.
The Mido Chafūrin played during the test recording had a much more stylish image than we thought he would.
We gave him a rundown of the image we had in mind and had him do another performance.
After comparing the two, we decided to proceed with the “stylish and crazy” Mido Chafūrin played.
The Recording was a Battle with My Ab Muscles
Those who know him may understand this already, but Chafūrin’s voice has a strange charm that slowly grows on you.
He has a tendency to boldly exaggerate every bit of Mido’s lines, and you might find yourself about to burst out laughing.
I had to put up with the desperate urge to laugh in the middle of a serious recording, and if it had gone on just a half hour or so longer, my abs might have collapsed.
Just Like Going on a Bar Journey
The recording ended without incident.
We’d gotten to the time of evening where the bars are about to open, so we naturally began talking about alcohol. Like, whether rice or noodles are better for a last meal of the night after a bar crawl.
We began getting deep into topics like whether you should cut shochu with dark or light low-alcohol beer, like in a certain travel program about touring different bars.* *[TN: Yoshida Rui no Sakaba Horoki (Yoshida Rui's Bar Journeys). The Japanese header namedrops it, referring to "Sakaba no Horoki".]
When I remember that conversation, I start wanting to eat vinegared mackerel.

16_02 [Mido] What do I look like to you? I bet I look like a weird digital geezer. But this form is proof that I successfully grasped the reality of the human mind and transferred my own soul to the Expanse. I'm a superior species of geezer, so to speak. And not only that, I've successfully fused myself with a demon native to the Expanse. Right now you can only see me as an old guy due to issues of data capacity, but if you saw my true form… You'd be too scared to open the app.
16_03 [Mido] When I was young I spent all my time with that Steven, immersed in researching how to convert emotions to digital information. Steven was the one who proposed the theory, but I, Meade Waugh, used my own body to put it into practice and become a cybernetic trailblazer! Goodness gracious, this body is fantastic! Without any pesky human relationships, I never need to worry about getting my suit dry-cleaned! I only regret that I can no longer savor those blissful times when I stuffed my face with vinegared mackerel and washed it down with some dark beer. It still weighs on my mind. Masakado/Nakata Jōji/Forbidden Anonymous Report
The Majesty of Tokyo’s Guardian Deity
Many readers are probably familiar with Nakata Jōji as the voice of Q, the shopkeeper who sells weapons and armor in the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado.
But Q isn’t the only representative character he plays.
Some of you may recognize him as the character responsible for the game taking place in two settings, the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado and Tokyo.
Nakata plays none other than him: Masakado.
Switching Modes Before Recording
In contrast with the humble Q, Masakado is a majestic, imposing character.
Nakata was supposed to do his promotional autograph after all the day’s recording was over, but he asked to do it right after recording Q. He wanted to cut Q’s energy off before going into Masakado’s recording.
I saw his spirit as an actor in this request. I thought an aura of quiet and solemn majesty began to grow from him the more he moved his pen.
Masakado is rooted firmly within him.
A True Guardian Deity
His Masakado was a guardian deity for sure.
Just listening to him, the courage to take on God’s Chariot or the demonic Tyrant wells up within you.
Definitely keep a slot in your stock open when you head for Ginza to bear Tokyo’s hopes on your shoulders.
The Stage for the Battle is Set
This has already been published on paper, but Masakado also has a design from the neck down. If you want to see it……
If you don’t know what we’re talking about, give the information we’ve released up until now another good once-over.
Nakata’s majestic voice just might bear down on the protagonist in hostility this time.

If you have become the hopes of the people, I shall follow you.
17_02 [Weapon Shop Guy] You wouldn't think it, but when I was little I too wanted to be a Samurai and fight for the sake of my kingdom. But selling weapons and armor to the blessed Samurai, I have many opportunities to listen to them, and they seem to be having an awful time of it. They worry for their superiors, they worry for those at the Monastery, and of course they worry for their compatriots. I now consider it a blessing I was never chosen by the Gauntlet.
17_03 [Joji Nakata] Hello, I'm Nakata Joji. I think some of you may know this, but I played a cat named Gouto in Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha. If you know, you know. He was the cute black cat. Anyway, this time, I played a number of roles in SMT 4, some of which were pretty important! In the game I turn up in many different positions- standing in the players' way in battles, selling weapons and armor, and handing over very important items, so look forward to it. Please fully immerse yourself in the world of SMT 4.

Obstacle spotted by the wayside. This time we will represent it as a tissue box. Set your direction, and using the foot opposite to this direction to launch yourself…
Jump over the obstacle. The key is to do it without exerting yourself.
And land. At this point, if you’ve already done the steps to make the jump, your landing will be COOL too.
Cross the foot opposite to the one you landed on and strike a pose. You haven’t just jumped over an obstacle now. You’ve jumped over your own limits.

Burroughs/Kaida Yūko/Forbidden Anonymous Report
The Fairy in the Gauntlet
As soon as you think you can do a surprising amount of things in the world by yourself, you realize that all those things are a pain in the butt.
Even when you eat alone, if you don’t talk with the other people in the store, you’ll have to pick out all the ingredients and seasonings by yourself.
The protagonist of this game must have also had a hard time fulfilling his duty alone.
A Fairy for Real
Burroughs is played by Kaida Yūko.
When she appeared at the recording, she was gorgeous, just like the “fairy” in the Gauntlet.
Burroughs doesn’t just appear in events, she gives you support with the game’s system and the tutorial, and has lines for just about every scene.
We of the development team want the players to have a comfortable experience, and we think that’s best communicated to everyone with a lovely female voice, rather than the deep voice of a middle-aged man.
A Fairy Again
Actually, Kaida did another recording after finishing her work for the game itself. She also did the narration for the promotional videos.
Not just the development team, but the person in charge of promotion took note of her voice’s power of persuasion and Burroughs’ appeal.
Some readers may know this already. The narration for the fourth trailer currently viewable on the website and the title call in the TV commercial is Kaida’s voice.
A Fairy Three Times
She put in a particular amount of effort for the TV commercials.
When the development team got the pilot version, we ended up deciding that we wanted her voice to give it a more mature finish.
She cooperated with us in the midst of her very busy schedule and did a third recording session.
“Shin Megami Tensei IV”. Just to give us that one line.
Until I can be called “Master”
On the left you can see us after recording. We requested a smile for the photoshoot.
In contrast to her unreserved gaze towards the camera for the sake of this request, despite my best efforts, I couldn’t even manage a half smile.
I wonder if I’ll be someone worthy of being called “Master” when the next series title is announced.

18_01 [Burroughs] Lovely weather we're having, Master. On days like these, don't you humans just want to forget about your duties and laze around all day? All right, I'll give you an extra day off. And I'll go tell the Monastery to keep an eye out for a flagrantly falsified report.
18_02 [Yuko Kaida] Hello, I'm Kaida Yuko. I played Burroughs. Will my voice reach Masters all over the country? Burroughs is the character who spends the most time with all the players, so I strived to do a performance that sounded pleasant without too many mannerisms that stood out. A little like a reliable older sister. I'm here to support your comfortable gaming life. Journey onto the stage of SMT 4 with me.
18_03 [Burroughs] This was long before you were born, but the people of Tokyo once used communication equipment similar to Gauntlets in their daily lives. I think they were called smartphones and feature phones?

We’re at That Point, so Let Me Say it/Almost Time to Move On/Forbidden Anonymous Report
I Know it’s Sudden…
This morning, I got a notice from the higher-ups to complete this blog. Should I take this as a “step up”, or as a “fall back to the center”? This is the story of my own choices.
I know this is sudden, but I’d be happy if you read this report as an editorial postscript.
Take care not to get possessed until the day we meet again.
A Definite Response in the Feedback
This is only within the scope of what I myself have been able to check, so I apologize, but I can definitely feel a surprising response in the support I’ve seen for Isabeau.
Isabeau doesn’t get the indulgent treatment common with female characters in other works. We made sure to always center her character around the themes of the story, and use her concept to discuss those themes.
I’m encouraged by the fact that even though nowadays works are full of female characters who seem to embody male fantasies, with predictable “character types” and excessive attention drawn to their body lines, there are still plenty of users in the market who “get it”.
A Definite Response
Even now, when I look back on the horrors of getting the script done before the deadline, I’m as moved as Hideki* was every time I hear the voices in this work. *[TN: Reference to a commercial for Vermont Curry where singer Hideki Saijo says "Hideki, kangeki!" (Hideki's moved!)]
The staff in charge of game events who skipped their days off to edit the script, the administrative staff who helped send the script out, and the promotional staff who helped out so much preparing the voice material for this blog.
Then, the coordinator, who worked everything out even with the frequent script delays and made these recordings possible. And of course, the voice actors who breathed life into these characters.
To everyone who worked on these recordings……
Thank you!

19_01 [Raphael] I am Raphael. God's solace resounds through my name. I hear that a popular song in your world sings of children of men as flowers, all special in their own way. Indeed, such is the Lord's teaching. All children of men are children of our Lord, equal in His eyes. Thus every one of you is special. [TN: idk which song he's talking about..]
19_02 [Michael] I am Michael. God has no equal; this resounds through my name. If you children of men repeat not the mistakes of your foolish forefathers, if you exalt our Lord Almighty, if you eat not the Forbidden Fruit, no wickedness shall take root within your hearts. O wise ones who hearken to this voice! Will your future hold such glory as befits our apostles in the new Millennium? Or will you suffer God's wrath, laid low at Armageddon and cast out with the Snake?
19_03 [Uriel] I am Uriel. God's fire resounds through my name. If you have heard this voice, you pass muster as a warrior of light on a par with us four Archangels. Do not betray our Lord's expectations. I have wrestled with you children of men and I have delivered you prophecies, but if I find you to be unclean, I will not hesitate to burn your face to ash that I may never see it again.
19_04 [K] Let me recount the legend of a hero passed down in the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado-- not one so great as Aquila, mind, but a hero nonetheless. This isn't public knowledge on account of the Monastery's controls, but some decades ago a demon erected a Domain in Naraku. Many Samurai fell prey to this demon. Now the Commander at the time couldn't just leave this matter be, so he let the demon plunge its teeth into his own arm, then took his chance and skewered it, arm and all. The Commander could fight no longer, so he became a tavernkeeper. They say he's there to this day, watching over the young Samurais' progress with his one good eye.
19_05 [Charon] The souls of those who took their own lives wash up here on occasion. And when they get a look at this riverside, it's always the same: "Oh, it wasn't supposed to be this way!" These misguided nuisances choose death on a moment's impulse or out of plain naivete, and all it does is give me more work. You had better believe I charge them a massive return fee. The market price is three times the usual, as compensation for inconvenience.
19_06 [Chiwa Saito] Hee-hello, everybody! I'm Saito Chiwa. I've been here since Soul Hackers. In SMT, I started with the Hee-Ho demons, and I've actually played about five more people-type characters… People-type, that sounds really weird… So I thought it'd be fun if I could do it being conscious of, where am I now?, and all that… Anyway, I did the Hee-hos, and before I started I thought I'd give the voices recorded in Soul Hackers another listen, and thinking I really had to do that myself, it really calmed me down! The game itself is very much for die-hards, but that 'ho! ho!' tic, it's relaxing! I try to really relax and get comfortable, but actually I have to convey that dangerous and precarious quality, and I have to keep that balancing act all by myself, and that's the hardest part. Right. I managed to put things pretty well while hee hee ho ho'ing. Or, well, I'm not right now, but, well, I did it. And in this game, I did what I could, and hee-hos will gladly be your demons, so if everyone can relax and be fends-- I fumbled my words, friends with them, I'd be really happy. This has been Saito Chiwa, nice to meet you all, ho!

Can I request one with either goody or hitch? Maybe even Sanger where the reader plays hockey and got into a brawl before a game and dented one of their rings and is on the warpath since their grandpa gave then the ring but they were caught offguard (the the tunnel brawl) and they go fucking feral and hitch or goody bends the ring back into shape?
(My brother stood on my hand ages ago and my ring my granddad gave me of my nanas is still bent a little and I'm still pissed)
Oh man that’s brutal about your ring!! I’m sorry to hear that happened to you, that always sucks when something you love gets messed up :( in this story, your ring gets pretty much fixed and all is well so I hope this brings a smile to your face😁 thanks for the request! I decided to write this with Hitch because I could see him taking pride in fixing something for you; I hope my dialogue for him isn’t too bad😂
Really Big Team, Really Big Ring
Slice of Life
Hitch x gn!reader
Warnings: fighting, cussing
You and the rest of your team were all geared up, sticks in hand and helmets on. You had been looking forward to this game for a long time; the last time you played this team, they were much too cocky and you blew them out of the water with your win, having scored 6 to their measly 1. You hoped to do the same thing again, but this time send them home with a big ol’ goose egg next to their name.
“You guys ready to hit the ice?” you addressed your team. You were met with roars from your teammates, each person hyped up and eager to play.
“Go get lined up in the tunnel. I’ll meet you out there.”
Everybody headed out the locker room, leaving you on your own. You looked down to your hand, spying your favorite ring as it reflected the bright overhead light. You smiled, looking at it lovingly. It was your prized possession, having received it from your beloved grandpa. You always wore it, especially before a game since you felt it brought you luck. You were about to slide it off, not being able to wear it on the ice, when all of a sudden, you heard yelling from the tunnel.
“That doesn’t sound good,” you muttered, peeking your head out. You gasped, surprised at the scene unfolding in front of you. The rival team had infiltrated your tunnel and started a brawl!
You ripped off your helmet and growled. “Not in my fuckin’ barn!”
Without hesitation, you jumped into the action, grabbing the first person you saw with your rival’s sweater. You pulled them off your teammate, your fist connecting with their nose. You wanted to know what exactly happened and why they thought taking you guys by surprise would be a good idea, but you didn’t have a chance to ask, letting your punches do all the talking instead. You were dodging flying fists as much as you could while still doling them out, wanting to finish up this mess as soon as possible. You loved a brawl as much as the next person, but in the tunnel before the game? That was just a waste of time.
“Hey, hey, hey! Stop it right now!” your coach yelled, absolutely fuming. You turned to look at him, which ended up being a huge mistake; someone’s knuckles landed on your cheek and you fell to the ground, landing square on your back. You saw their flaring nostrils as they leaned over you, about to try to land more blows on you. You quickly rolled out of the way and stood up, grabbing them by the collar and delivering a strong punch to their face. Your attacker scurried away, nursing their bloody nose. You were satisfied with their reaction, grinning at the sight of their defeat, when you felt a strange sensation on your finger. You didn’t think you punched them that hard that you broke anything…
No—it was your ring!
In a flash, you ripped the ring off your finger and inspected it. Much to your chagrin, it was no longer in its natural round state, instead taking on an odd, oblong shape. You were so upset you felt like crying, your anger pouring out of you. Your treasured keepsake became ruined in the blink of an eye, all because some idiots couldn’t stand losing a few months back. You furiously shoved it into your pocket, ready to exact revenge on this team. Your rage was certainly felt by them as you tore through their members, yanking them off your own teammates and shoving them to the floor, throwing as many punches as your body could. You were seething as you held up someone else by their collar, about to unleash another round of hits when you were pulled from your aggression by another voice.
“What’s going on here?”
With the way the rival team halted, you assumed that it was their coach.
“We wanted to teach them a lesson not to mess with us,” the team’s captain said, holding a fist above your teammate.
“I don’t care what you were trying to do,” he said, sounding just as upset, if not more, than your own coach. “Get the hell back to your own locker room. Now!”
You let go of the collar of the person you were holding and they hurried away. You had never seen a team run away from a fight that fast, and considering they were the ones that started it, you let out a laugh.
“Quit laughing, L/n,” your coach told you. “Get back to the locker room. You better have an explanation by the time I get in there.”
You were about to argue that you didn’t have a clue either, but the deadly look he shot you was enough to keep you quiet for now.
“I’ve ne’er seen a brawl quite like that one,” chuckled Hitch, having shown up behind your coach sometime during the fight. “Glad I heard the commotion and ran in for a show. What’d ya do to piss ‘em off?”
“Won the last game,” you smirked, Hitch letting out another hearty laugh. Your expression quickly changed into one of deep sadness when you remembered the state of your ring, feeling the outline of it in your pocket.
“Whats goin’ on?” Hitch asked, noticing your abrupt change in attitude.
“This.” You pulled out the misshapen metal. “I didn’t have time to take it off before fighting and I… it’s…”
You couldn’t finish the sentence, not wanting to face that your ring was misshapen, probably permanently. Hitch’s face fell when he saw how distressed you were.
“Hey now, don’t be sad! Lemme give it a look.”
You passed him the ring, nervously fidgeting with your now empty finger.
“Tell me where ya got it from,” Hitch said, trying to distract you as he got to reshaping it, keeping your mind from running away from you in your anxiety.
“It was from my grandpa. It really means a lot to me, it’s my favorite ring and my good luck charm. I can’t imagine not being able to wear it anymore.”
“Well you can tell gramps he pick a good ‘un,” he said, holding up the ring and smiling proudly. “It fixed up great. Not perfect, but a helluva better than before.”
You inspected it, seeing that Hitch was indeed correct. Slipping it back on your finger, you could tell it was still bent slightly but it was wearable. More importantly, it wasn’t broken. You pulled Hitch into a bone crushing hug.
“Thank you!” you said, relief washing over you. “How did you manage to do that so well?”
“It’s a secret, m’friend,” he teased, flashing you another grin before clapping a friendly hand on your shoulder. “And if y’don’t get the game stick later for that performance, let me in there and I’ll vouch for ya.”
You laughed. “I’ll hold you to that. Wish me luck with coach.”
“You’re gonna need it.”
You waved goodbye as he sauntered back to his seat, waiting for the hockey game to start. As you walked toward the locker room, you rubbed your fingers over your ring once more, grateful you had such caring friends like Ted Hitchcock.

Short Story Writing Tips for Fanfic Authors
While Edgar Allen Poe has many pretentious things to say on the merits of the Short Story (‘a work of art should be able to achieve its effect in one sitting’), I want to talk about them from a fanfiction perspective.
As fic writers, we are doing this hobby for fun, and frequently find ourselves hopping between shiny new idea, to shiny new idea, to shiny new idea…
...which is totally fine. However: to reduce this, I want to impress this upon you:
Keep your fic short enough to write within the span of dopamine it generates.
So while it’s still easy to generate long plots, I usually like to keep my stories small and focused wherever possible, so I can feel proud about ✨finishing✨ it and then have more energy to work on the next idea. In addition, if I have an idea tha t I think is cool, but not something I can fathom spending an entire year writing a novel-length-fic about, I can still write the idea if I think carefully about how I can work it into a short story.
Often writers way things like: 'I have 30k words to write just to get to the fun bit 😭😭😭'
Just write the fun bit.
It might be one thing for me to say that, but learning a bit of craft about short stories can make this easier.
So: one of the hardest things in a story is the ending, and short stories (especially origific) can be very challenging to create a satisfying ending with so little to work with.
In short story craft, there is a lot of talk about things like Hemingway’s ‘Iceberg Theory’:
Hemingway said that only the tip of the iceberg showed in fiction—your reader will see only what is above the water—but the knowledge that you have about your character that never makes it into the story acts as the bulk of the iceberg. And that is what gives your story weight and gravitas. — Jenna Blum in The Author at Work, 2013 (Wikipedia Link)
Fanfic is great for this! You already have a ton of character and plot fleshed out, so you can already have your iceberg while putting very little effort in. Short stories are already much easier as fic because they already have the 'iceberg of canon' beneath them, so make the most of it!
The next trick is ✨Authors Notes✨!
You can just say the background info plainly to the reader, without having to worry about crafting it nicely for the reader.
However, if you feel that the background info might be served best by putting it into the story, then let me introduce you to the next trick: Telling!
Think about summary the you have in your AN, and expand it into slightly longer ‘pretty’ prose:
Months went by. Trees bloomed, and forsook their leaves. One day, Mina stepped outside again.
That covers a year of a character being stuck in their grief, without having to mire reader in being stuck like that too.
We’ve all had ‘Show, don’t tell’ beaten into us with a hammer. But if it’s not important or interesting for you or your story, then just Tell it, and move on to the next exciting thing! What you want to do is research ways to use prose to convey the passing of time, write summaries and transition sequences, and work out ways to cut down and remove ‘all that writing you have to do to get to the fun scene’.
So, let’s say you had an idea for an achingly beautiful Suparbat story that worked like a Shakespearean tragedy inspired by Othello. You start brainstorming and writing fragments of all these scenes where they meet, fall in love, then have all these gradual misunderstandings caused by Lex trying to meddle and break them apart.
They pile up super high, and then there is this devastating, heart-pounding finale where they fight, along with the tragic ending and denouement.
You take your notes and start trying to plan out what scenes you will need, and your face goes pale as you estimate the story will probably be about 80k words.
You can’t commit to that, and you sense another shiny idea might be lurking on the horizon soon (and besides, you have other fics to finish). You consider abandoning it, resigned to the beauty of the story haunting you forever.
Hold up.
The tragic fight scene. That’s the one that excites you the most. Start writing that.
Bam, bam bam.
Why are they fighting? The audience is now curious and hooked, sitting breathless on the edge of their seat.
Line of dialogue! Ultra specific accusation!
Now the reader is intellectually hooked. What event is this specific detail referring to?
Flashback to one of the scenes where they met and were tenderly in love, linked by the line of dialogue before.
Now the reader is emotionally hooked. What happened to make them hate each other so?
The fight scene continues! Dramatic moments of action interspersed with flashbacks of those snippets you wrote—
Now the reader has been enthralled by all this awesome action, and has a good grasp of emotional arc and events that brought them to this point, with the juxtaposition of the moments of love and hate creating a tremendous experience.
The fatal wound, juxtaposed by the fatal misunderstanding that set Batman on this path… Those painful words exchanged in the present, that have been stuck in your head for weeks: Why? I loved you! Lex (aka Iago) comes out, doing a slow clap, and revealing how he plotted and schemed to sow this discord between Batman and Superman, to make Batman kill Superman for him. The achingly haunting moment of looking into each others eyes and Superman forgiving and trying to absolve Batman of his guilt before he dies. Bruce swiftly disabling Lex’s failsafe (to stop him from taking revenge, but its useless because he’s Batman) and holding a batarang to Lex’s throat.
Now you’ve used 80% of your notes, and you have a decent first draft already!
So now, what will Batman do? Break his moral code about killing again (he already did with Superman) and kill Lex? Try to set Lex on a path of rehabilitation?
So then you get stuck. But Cinder, this doesn’t work for me! All I can think of is to end it the same way as Othello! Which I can’t bear to write.
Hold up.
Go back over your story and start tightening it up. The idea that Bruce is willing to kill someone is quite important. Go back and add flashbacks (or add context to the existing flashbacks) about Bruce developing, sticking to or explaining his no-kill rule.
Then you write an epilogue, where a reformed Lex starts making all kinds of structural changes in the world, alongside all the people who stepped up after being inspired by Superman’s life and determination to let everyone have a chance at forgiveness. After this, you realise that the last line Superman needs to say is to beg Bruce not to continue his murder-rampage and kill Lex.
Then you go back over your story again, fleshing out Lex’s character and some of the hints and lines of dialogue he drops to round out his arc as well. The story feels nice, but still a little off. The ending of Othello haunts you. Do you need to kill Batman after all?
You try writing the scene with the climax ending on: ‘Now, the only way: the Bat will die upon the light.’
Then, as you edit the last bit of the epilogue, you add at the end that Bruce is still alive, observing it all, having hung up his cape as Batman, (because how else could their love end after this but with ‘Batman’ dying with him?). With the transformation that happened for both Lex and Bruce when he honoured Clark’s last wish, this meant that world also grew into a place where Batman wasn’t needed anymore.
So there you have a beautiful short story about not just love and romance, but grief and betrayal and death and killing and absolution and forgiveness and a love that grows beyond a romantic entanglement into a love that changes the world— 🥰🥰🥰
And under 3000 words.
Now other people will be haunted by your story for the rest of their lives, instead of you.
You will have to edit harder if you try to write as concisely as this, but overall I think you’ll get more stories finished if you experiment with focusing on writing the exciting bits, then sprinkling just enough scene fragments to make it work.
I often write out an idea for a few thousand words, till I get stuck, then go back over it and start thinking about how I can reorder and tweak it to bring what I already have to a satisfying ending.
It requires fumbling and sitting and thinking and figuring it out as I’m revising (as you saw in the example) but if you keep focused on making things shorter you’ll be surprised at just how short you can make it.
And how many things you can finish!

now i WOULD go rest after the whole ypi business HOWEVER. is there any way to convince you to watch it because OH MY GODDDDDDDD THIS IS MY FAVOURITE SERIES EVER!!!!!!!!!!! it’s certainly not the best written tmnt series out there (ESPECIALLY with the romance…. shudders)
HOWEVERRRRRRR there are a lot of awesome things about it i really like….. i think one thing i like the most about this iteration (besides the very obvious obsession about sunset duo) is THE VOICEACTING. in a tmnt voiceacting teirlist i would put almost every rise character in s tier and yet STILL, despite the fact i put donnie in b, 2012 IS MY FAVOURITE VOICE ACTED SERIES. the original ask includes the giant navy battleship line and. yeah. sean astin’s delivery makes it a kajillion times funnier to me. IDK MAN THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT SPLINTER’S VOICE THAT IS SO SATISFYING TO ME. AND THE WAY SHINIGAMI LAUGHS???????????????? HRGHHHHH
also a big fan of the dynamics between the turtles…… the absolute brothers of all time. sobs (again it’s very obvious which duo is my favourite hfhdbsjbsdj)
also this might be a slightlyyyy controversial take but mikey’s adhd is written really really REALLY well in my opinion. like ok donnie said he hasn’t matured since age six and infantilisation is a big problem with neurodivergent people HOWEVER. a big part of mikey’s character is that he doesn’t like being underestimated and wants to prove he is capable but also. as a person with adhd. YEAH I TOO FEEL LIKE THE PERSON IN MY BRAIN IS A SMALL CHILD. the reason i peaked in primary school is because, back then, i was only slightly less mature than my peers. now as i’m in secondary school i realise i am like a TWO YEAR OLD compared to these people. when i was in s1 i would call myself the twelve year old toddler because that was essentially how mature i felt i was. SO THE STRUGGLE IS REAL. maybe there are times he feels slightly stereotypical but hey, everyone has their stereotype moments, right??? (as cliche as it is i feel like everyone has had a “hey, look, squirrel!” moment in their life). yeah i just relate to 2012 mikey on a spiritual level. like every time he’s on screen he does something and i think WOW. that is LITERALLY me (which is why i’m surprised that one poll i have more people think i’m like sonic than mikey?? but i’m not complaining, sonic is super cool)
the 3d animation is cool (the increase in skill is very obvious as you progress further through the series) and the fight scenes are just. MWAH. SO satisfying.
also SOME of the romance is pretty ok! raph and mona lisa are great. also arguably raph and casey (but we’re not ready for that conversation i think).
i have a full disc set of all five seasons that included a list of all the episodes and whenever i finished an episode i REALLYYYY REALLY enjoyed i would highlight the name in pink sharpie… here are all the episodes i marked :3 (i might need to rewatch some of these)
the pulveriser
cockroach terminator
parasitica
the good, the bad, and casey jones
plan 10
a foot too big (i’m actually not too sure about this one right now, might need to rewatch it)
journey to the center of mikey’s mind
revenge of the triceratons (this one is only half highlighted for some reason)
bat in the belfry
tokka vs the world
requiem (sobs. sobs so so hard.)
end times
when worlds collide: part 2 (i think this one is where the giant navy battleship line comes from)
it’s ok if you don’t want to watch it or you’re not able to watch it but if you can and you don’t end up liking it THAT’S OK I TOTALLY GET IT THERE ARE A LOT OF PARTS THAT SUCK
erm anyways that was my strange ramble. sorry for invading your ask box 👍🏼
(oh yeah, the comics are pretty cool too)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(guess who michalina’s favourite character + duo is challenge (impossible))
Ok I will say oddly enough I’ve read the comics for 2012. Weird, but I pirated found them and enjoyed reading them, they were fun.
I have watched a few episodes - I did like the speed demon episode (I love the dynamic of 2012 donnie and Casey mirroring the 90s movies even down the name insulting scene where they are going through the alphabet) and I like parasitica a lot. I have watched others like journey to centre of Mikey’s mind, Buried Secrets, and the usagi episodes, and also the final episodes of the Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (? I cannot remember the name, but the one with the insect guy as the villain who’s name I can’t spell and can’t be bothered to Google lol), that one where Donnie becomes dumb, the vampire ones, but that’s it.
What puts me off is the romance and the (in my opinion) partial butchered character Donnie has due to it. He’s genuinely creepy and it makes watching it uncomfortable and wildly out of character compared to what I’m used to. I’ve never been a fan of romance, and I expect ally despise the whole “main character has a crush on someone else but is so nerdy they don’t know how to approach them” trope. The whole love triangle and the poorly written “love at first sight” which most the romances in the show are just put me off completely. I genuinely have tried other episodes but I cringe every time the Donnie/April romance happens. It’s a shame because when they let Donnie move on from April or not be simping after her I really like his slightly sarcastic, blunt yet sensitive nature.
I’ve heard they kind of throw away the romance at season 3 but it’s having to watch this until then tbh. Maybe one day I will give it a go if people really say it’s worth the suffering of my least favourite trope. You seem to like it a lot so maybe :)

Worst part of the end of Enies Lobby is Zoro's bullshit pride take on what Usopp and Luffy's fight was about. I need to go and look at the translation used in the manga but in the anime they have him say ''we also can't keep trusting a guy who started all of this on a whim'' like bitch WHAT?!
The fuck did he witness throughout Water 7 that would make him say something so dismissive of the heart of what that fight was about? 'Whim' completely trivializes everything that happened, every single word Usopp said, it dismisses Merry and everything she did. It pisses me off so much.
Also makes me mad how rude he was to everyone else, especially Nami, during that whole scene. Telling her to shut up as if her opinion doesn't matter when truly her opinion should matter the most, like aside from Luffy being the captain, she's the real reason they can sail the sea at all!
Usopp's the whole reason Merry could save them at all (aside from Iceburg patching her up during Aqua Laguna) getting off Enies Lobby, AND he was the person who motivated Luffy to get up and finish Lucci off. 'Cause up until that point Luffy's heart was still broken from losing him in the first place, like Luffy knew his crew wasn't complete without Usopp and he regretted not being able to keep him from leaving.
Why Zoro felt the need to talk over Luffy and decide things for him, a direct display of disrespecting the captain he's holding against Usopp, while Luffy just goes along with it versus make a decision himself. Luffy SHOULD have gone to talk to him, BOTH of them should have had a deeper, more meaningful conversation about the fight, Usopp got to say goodbye to Merry in a way that satisfied him AND Luffy at that point, all they needed was an apology. And Usopp was not the only one who needed to give one, Luffy handled that abysmally from the start, it could have been settled way better than Zoro's method of needing Usopp to grovel and beg while letting Luffy get away with not giving a fuck about how he handled everything to begin with.
I mean thankfully Luffy learned from that experience, as we see when Sanji left during Whole Cake Island, but it came after having completely ignored Usopp's core issues, never addressing them directly, hence why he then goes into Thriller Bark not any different except now he's OPENLY bragging about being negative and self-loathing. Like very cool, very well handled guys...
It's almost like Oda couldn't have that happen then because Usopp still needed to have his core issues (recognizing he IS brave, he IS strong, he IS smart and useful and needed!!!) and that the best place to do that wasn't until Elbaf. Like he left his character on pause for hundreds of chapters and many MANY years and it's only in the next few that we might get the full payoff as we finally enter the Elbaf arc. (Which is interestingly also turning into a Robin-centric arc so Oda does seem to be cooking with that one already.)
Anyway, had to vent about that again, 'cause it's the only time I ever got mad at any of the crew and it was never addressed again. As soon as Usopp does say sorry he's accepted right away and they all go back to acting like nothing ever happened (which is how Luffy was operating anyway the moment he woke up back at Water 7...). Zoro's prideful way of doing shit is often not the best way to handle things and thankfully that's been pointed out before (Punk Hazard by Tashigi) but I genuinely wonder if Oda has any plans to tackle that as a character flaw in any later arcs.

Please take a moment out of your day to check out this incredible 80s-style Iron Fist fan film created by @sky-liam! Sky very generously shared with me the inspiration behind the film, as well as insight into the filming process, fight choreography, and thematic sensibilities:
"As a former martial arts champion, I wanted to show authentic Kung Fu techniques (we were lucky to get an action coordinator who's worked on Chinese martial arts movies). I have a background in Shaolin Kung Fu and competitive Wushu, training and competing for many years, and living in China for a year-and-a-half as well (majoring in Chinese language in college). Going back to some of the original issues of Iron Fist, what really grabbed me was how Danny has trained so long with one goal in mind, and then feels completely lost when he isn't able to complete his revenge on Harold Meachum. I felt like this story was something that anyone could connect to, because so many of us have had that moment where we finished school, or got a 'good' job, and then realized that attaining that single-minded goal didn't actually satisfy us, and we were still searching for something. I also connected with moments from Iron Fist: The Living Weapon when Danny was practicing Kung Fu almost like a drug to keep himself sane. And I connected it to the idea of all those things we do without even thinking because they've become a part of how we define ourselves."

"What was most important to me was this sense of [Danny] not being compatible to the world around him; being the Living Weapon but having no target to aim at after Meachum died. Martial arts and fighting becomes a drug to stay above water instead of a means to preserve life. I started Shaolin Kung Fu as a kid and eventually studied Mandarin in college and lived and trained in China for a year-and-a-half, competing in tournaments and working in Kung Fu films there. I wanted to make sure Danny used techniques from actual Shaolin forms (similar to the kind of stuff he'd learn from the monks in K'un-Lun) and also spoke some of the language he picked up while living there. "I knew our fight director, Alfred Hsing, from the Wushu competition scene, and he had also trained in Beijing and worked with Jet Li for several years. He used a lot of 'in-camera editing' in his choreography - that is, setting up short sequences of the fight that were designed to be shot from a specific angle, thus highlighting the best stuff while eliminating wasted camera setups. Of course he also played a version of Steel Serpent in the final fight with Colleen and Danny. "Kara Wang, who played Colleen Wing (and not long after went on to shoot 'Top Gun: Maverick') trained for about three months to complete her fight scene. Our other actors were former athletes with martial arts experience and we also rehearsed choreography for several weeks before shooting. We were able to get many locations for free (the parking garage, the apartment, and the plaza in Monterey Park that doubled for Chinatown) through business and personal connections. "The original short film was about 15 minutes long, and had a lot of voiceover that gave an insight into Danny's inner monologue. We made a few changes to the costumes and events (such as Danny wearing clothes he bought off the rack after coming back to the States, Meachum dying from a drug overdose), which was similar to what was done for the 80s and 90s Marvel adaptations where certain details would be changed for budgetary reasons. In the end, there were some issues with some of the footage in the narrative scenes of the film, so I decided to recut it like a VHS trailer from the 1980s or early 90s would be. "My goal in the end was to highlight some of the grittier story elements of Danny Rand, and to show Iron Fist doing some legit Kung Fu. I hope fans of the character can enjoy it!"
A huge thank you to Sky for sharing this amazing project!

Black Myth Wukong Chapter 3 Thoughts
So, I finished the chapter after putting it off for a bit, and I have to say, I enjoyed how absolutely MASSIVE this chapter is in comparison to the first two.
Ive started having to fight the camera a bit harder; it is, unfortunately, no longer an issue relegated to the Kiang-Jin Loong fight. However, its easy enough to mitigate since you can pause pretty much whenever to adjust your settings as needed. I find just turning off auto-switch eliminated like 90% of the issue.
Two of my favorite bosses so far are available in this chapter, those being Cyan Loong and Yin Tiger! Their fights are top notch, and are SO satisfying to drop into the rhythm of the battle. Lots of good parry/perfect dodge opportunities riddled throughout the fights, they just feel so badass the entire time.
Finally getting a sort of hub world is also lovely; being able to reach all your upgrade/gathering npcs in one teleport is great.
And speaking of upgrades, the blind monk mobs drop mind cores sometimes.
I HIGHLY reccomend abusing this for celestial medicines.
Finally, and more than anything, I want to talk about the end of chapter animation, because it is by far the prettiest so far. Its also viscerally disturbing, and the end dialogue ties the whole chapter together flawlessly.
Mild spoiler warning, but only for chapter three:
Over the course of chapter three, there are several side quests that all tie into the main questline. The first is the Green Hat Martialist, which cues you into the fact that youre not always talking to the same Buddha over the course of the chapter. The next is the fox spirit's quest, which is a direct continuation of the animation from chapter 2 and leads you to the thunderclap temple. The spirit tells you her killer is hiding there, having gone on to become a monk. However... hes the first of several you'll quickly realize have beome corrupted in the temple. Your horse friend from earlier chapters can be found nearby the monk, behaving uncharacteristically. All the enemies in Thunderclap have lines referencing one faith or a true faith, presumably not one you follow as theyre attacking you.
This all leads to (while technically not that impressive) one of the most interesting bosses so far.
Yellowbrow is an altar boy who declared himself a Buddha. He has beef with what seems to be his peer, and he makes mention of this a few times during his boss fight, seemingly increasingly butthurt and desperate to prove hes in the right over the other monk. He believes himself to be better than others, whereas his... friend? Rival? They seem to be on shockingly good terms all things considered- believes all to be equal.
This is where the animation ties in. Were shown a turtle yaogaui of sorts, washing ashore in a poor, sickly village. The turtle bleeds gold and pearls, and is shown to be capable of healing the sick and reversing aging. The village, naturally begins praising the turtle as a god. Until the night of a festival, where one villager gets greedy and attacks the turtle. This prompts the other villagers to do the same, tearing it apart for its carass and innards. The next scenes we see are the abandoned, dilapidated ruins of the village, and what remains of the dessicated carcass of the turtle. A monk approaches the carcass and begins speaking to it, only for the turtle to reply, revealing itself as none other than Yellowbrow. There's an exchange about skewed data and onfirmation bias, ("Why attempt to prove anything if not to win?") And the animation ends.
The monk is, of course, the rival Yellowbrow has been yapping on about the whole fight. The chapter ends with their opinions continuing to clash.
Its beautifully done, and its definitely going to stick with me for the imagery alone, if not the moral.
Lastly
Bajie! I love him, I was so happy to see him, hes ADORABLE as a little guy, I wish we got to keep him forever.

Buddha would be like "just don't overwork your little head of yours too much, honeybun, just enjoy the feeling" as he demolishes your insides while spooning you
Eat well, Anon. Also did not beta read, I'm sorry. Straight thoughts to page kinda fic. If y'all want me to finish this scene let me know?
Obviously NSFW warning below. My account is 18+.
You're desperate.
Desperate for him, for his touch, his love, his cock. It's painfully obvious you desire him, lust taking over your rational thoughts as the day drags on.
He is more than aware, a cocky grin slung across his face. Chuckling to himself every time your eyes rack over him like he is a piece of meat. He doesn't mind the objectification when it comes from you. Only from you. You are being a bit shy so he decided to initiate things with you.
Lazily he maneuvers himself into the kitchen. Your back is to him, prepping food for dinner. His arms snaking around your waist pulling your back against his broad chest. Resting his head on your shoulder, looking at the vegetables you were chopping. His hand covers yours guiding you to place the knife down.
“Honey bunny, wanna take a nap?” He asks, his breath hot against your neck.
He can feel your knees want to buckle, your body instinctively leaning forward on the counter. Unintentionally pushing your ass into his crotch as you try to stay up right.
“N-nap?” You echo his words, looking over your shoulder to hold his gaze for a long moment.
“Mhmmm” he purrs, gently kissing the side of your neck. He relishes in how your body trembles against his.
Without any more words he takes your hand and guides you to your shared bedroom. He kicks off his house shoes and climbs into the covers of the bed. He patted the spot next to him, welcoming you into his arms.
Without delay, you practically leap into his arms. Nuzzling into his warm embrace, your lover spooning you from behind.
"You're all tense. Ya need to relax." He whispers as he nuzzles his face into your hair, inhaling your scent. "Ya've been so stressed lately, honeybun"
Your body tenses again, hot huffs leaving your lips as you fight your wandering mind. At this rate you'll never be able to fall asleep.
“Yeah, well I have a lot on my mind, babe” you admit, carefully ignoring that Buddha is in fact what has been weighing on your mind.
“Hmmm.” He hums with a satisfied smirk.
He peppers your sensitive neck with his kisses. His rough and calloused fingers guiding down your body, gripping the curve of your hips. Gently massaging your flesh before abruptly pulling your body closer to his. Molding you against him.
"What could possibly be on your mind that's stressing you, baby?" He says with a chuckle, hips slowly grinding against your ass.
You swear you can feel his length starting to harden. Your teeth sink into your lower lip, head rolling against Buddha’s arm under your neck. It all feels too good.
“Just… hormones and stuff” you say with a mumble, your pride trying to silence your desires. Make light of your desperation to have him.
“Hormones, huh?” He smirks, continuing to gently rub his thumbs along the curve of your hips. His digit dipping under the waistband of your pants slowly pulling them down, exposing your ass to him.
The demigod can't help but hum in appreciation. His eyes half lidded into a lustful expression of his own.
“Y-yeah… just hormones” you repeat, kicking off your pants and panties. Quick to get rid of anything that could get in his way.
He scoffs under his breath, his hand on your hip slides in front of you. Fingers parting your thighs then gliding up your slit. His digits immediately coated in your slick wetness.
“Hormones” he repeats with a chuckle.
“Y-yeah.” You mumble as you hide your face into his arms and pillow underneath.
"I could think of something that might help ease those hormones… it's more fun than a nap."
A desperately moan from you fills the room. Your body trembles at the sensations he is overwhelming you with.
His fingers lazily continue to slide up and down your slit, refusing to give you any kind of release.
His other arm repositions a bit, so his hand can dip lower and shamelessly fondle one of your breasts.
"Y'know, there's a few things I could do.” he purrs against your ear, his tongue darting out to lick your lobe before nipping it.
Suddenly before you can attempt to answer him, he lifts your thigh over his leg. Your back arching, you can feel his hardened length align with your drenched core.
His crying tip runs up and down your slit, coating in your juices before he starts to apply delicious pressure to your aching heat. Erotic moans spilling from your lips as he sinks in, inch by inch. His hips rocked gently, burying himself slowly within you, stretching you around him.
“B-babe” you moan, closing your eyes and savoring the full feeling he is giving you.
“Yes?” He whispers back to you in a sultry tone. He patiently waits for you to adjust to him, his hands gently caressing you. “Still got a lot on your mind?”
You don't, it's impossible to think when he is touching you like this. A hand on your breast, tweaking your nipple while his other massages the fat of your thigh, keeping you spread for him.
“Yeah… no! Well” you stammer over your words, struggling to follow along with the questions.
Your breathing is rapid and uneven, he is pushing you to the edge rapidly.
"Just don't overwork your little head of yours too much, honeybun, just enjoy the feeling" He says with a smirk, nipping your ear. His pace quickly turning brutal.
