But also, I didn't see a lot of people talk about it but... where are the leading roles for the girls? I know a lot of people on this site are like " ew, straight shows" and I get it, I do, but at least with those shows, the girls were sure to play characters with storylines of their own. To be more than just the friend, the colleague or the sister of the male leads. But now, with those shows gone and only 2 gls in the line-up, the f*ck are they supposed to do!

And i'm not gonna lie, i liked some of their non-bl shows. The gifted 1 & 2, enigma, the warp effect, mama gogo, friendzone 1 &2, happy birthday and many more. I liked the fact that i could enjoy this shows even if i wasn't a big fan of the romance, if there was any romance at all. I love qls, but when you watch them, you kinda have to love the couples in it to be able to enjoy them since they are so romance heavy otherwise you get bored. At least, it's like that for me. It's just makes me sad to think that i might not get to watch shows like that from gmmtv anymore.

I will be the downer and say I don’t actually think it’s good that GMMTV is moving toward only doing qls aka branded pair vehicles. One of the reasons the OG pairs with a decade of longevity have been so successful and have actually grown in their careers is because they did not only or even primarily make shows with each other. Off, Gun, Tay, and New all have broad resumes that include lots of shows they headlined without their pair partner. It’s why they became better and more interesting actors, and it’s why we didn’t get sick of them—we had long breaks where they did other stuff. This shift to a model of having the actors only have significant roles in shows where they are together as a couple with their pair partner feels short-sighted (to be clear this criticism is not aimed at the performers at all, I am thinking about GMMTV as an artist management corporation and bl industry leader).

Here’s some data to demonstrate what I mean: With this new crop of shows, OffGun, ForceBook, and FirstKhao will all hit 5 BLs each where they have a significant role and end the show paired. But Off and Gun’s BLs are spread across an entire decade, where for the other two pairs they are hitting that volume of paired shows within 2-3 years. It’s way too much saturation of their pair brands without giving the actors much chance to work outside of it and develop as performers. This feels likely to lead to burnout and diminishing returns both for the pairs and for the audience. GMMTV used to manage their pairs with more balance, but the balance is disappearing right in front of our eyes. I don’t think the industry or the artists are going to benefit from this in the long run.
