I had a an out of blue thought: Old Guard AU where Aizawa actually dies during USJ, just to walk it off.

I was not surprised to not find anything on AO3.

But considering the amount of fics I've spotted where Modoriya dies and comes back to life, I was surprised to only find 2 fics with that AU/Fusion/whatever, both with LoV as immortals.

So who do you think would make a good newbie immortal?

so when sasuke deserts naruto and sakura immediately desert with him. like he gets to the village gates and they're just waiting for him bags packed like "what took u so long we doing this or what"

he tries to get them to go back bc of course he does. "no you losers this is about me i'm going to kill my brother. also i'll have to kill my best friend for the super sharingan and you two are like the only people i talk to". but they do not listen. teamwork sasuke we will defeat your brother (OUR brother #communism) with the power of teamwork. just like kakashi-sensei said

#I’ve discovered that Akira died rather recently because I was in bed without being able to attempt anything else beyond my health #it has being painfull to discover this #he was my childhood and of many others too #even with fever and coughing I needed to say a proper goodbye #thank you for everything Akira sensei #I hope that you are in the beautiful heaven that you painted

I think JJK going on break after the last chapter is a bit cruel. This is nerve-wracking. We still have 3 chapters left and so many things can happen there. 268 feels too good to be true and the title is weird.

I'm not sure what is the right translation and I don't have access to raws. Right now, it's 268 title is "Finale" or "Conclusion" but I heard from someone that it can be also be read as "Curtains".

If it can be read as "Curtains", then it could be a reference to "final curtains". The problem is JJK has its own version of "Curtains", right? Idk what to think.

Gosh I wish it was “Curtains”. The chapter title is 決着 (Kecchaku) which means settlement/conclusion/end.

For example, at the end of an extremely brutal fight in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Jolyne screams “Kechakuuuuuuu!” (決着ゥゥーーーッ!!) (It's actually a small Jojo meme in the JP fandom.) This got translated as "Game set!"

I love the localization they used for this since that entire battle was like struggling in arcade mode for a fighting game.

Anyways, in the context of JJK, especially since this has been a literal Sukuna Gauntlet and the previous chapter had the “Ringing the bell on a long fight.” editor’s comment, I don’t think there’s an ambiguous way to read Kecchaku. The Curtain/Veil kanji in JJK is 帳 (Tobari). (Though if there’s some fancy wordplay I’m missing please let me know.)

However…I would kneel before Gege if this was an elaborate trick by Sukuna—him giving Yuji delusions of a happy ending only to yank it away last second. It’s very hard to make characters feel familiar but slightly off on purpose for misdirection. That kind of tonal control is something I praise Umineko for. (Dungeon Meshi does it excellently for the shapeshifter scene.)

But that is pure copium I think. Sometimes otherwise good media just fumbles the endings. (Not an example of good media, but I was around for the Secret BBC Sherlock Season 4 Ending meltdown so I’m not too hopeful about a turnaround.) I personally blame the JP work culture/crunch since a lot of modern mangas have rushed endings due to burnout/unfair contracts.

I think the most heartbreaking examples of this phenomenon for me are The Owl House and Moral Orel. Those shows still stick the landing imo, but the creators are very open about how studio interference forced them to condense everything. You can feel that suffocation in the final episodes. Everything is just slightly off and you know it would be better if the creators were allowed their breathing room.

If you were raised Protestant it will come for your throat.#I never thought a little white boy would have my exact religious trauma.#But yeah. Everything is too happy right now. After getting through something that traumatic you don’t just bounce back instantly.#None of these kids were taught how to grieve properly. So them acting like the fight did nothing to them is…not something I like.#The tone should be more bittersweet not. ''Our sensei died violently for our sake lmao!''#This is something Yuji would feel guilty for. Both him and Nobara would cry a bit. Megumi would be trying to bottle it up.#I can say that with confidence because that's how they've handled previous deaths.#Yuji cried over transfigured humans ffs. Like why aren't these deaths upsetting him? (It would make sense if Gojo+Higu were alive though.)#The light novels did a much better job of the trio trying to be goofy through the pain.#You can tell they’re struggling but they still chase joy.#That’s a reason why JJK connects so well with me. Despite all the trauma they can still strive for a different kind of happiness.#This current tone is more like. ''Look you can just quickly get over it with the right mindset and go back to the way things were!''#Which completely contradicts the themes/characterization. How is it that I am more accepting of all the stories and theories I've read about the Oshi no Ko than where we are right now?

Also, some people really think that OnK readers are furious about the story because it was tragic? Tragedies are endings that will linger on you. Tragic endings are endings that will give a lasting feeling and in my opinion, they're more weighted than happy endings. In all cases, not all endings should be happy. I am very accepting of tragic endings but I just can't ride with this one because killing off Aqua did not feel like the only option left to punish the antagonist of the story. Why was letting the authority punish Kamiki not an option when they've already caught Nino red-handed?

The story has never been fair to anyone. Like crow girl oh my goodness what was the point of her existence anyway? She just narrated and talked in Aqua's dream and that's it?!

Ruby! She lost her beloved sensei. She lost her beloved idol. And now she lost her twin brother. So is the story we want to tell here is that life is shitty but you should pick yourself up and fight to the end because okay yes I get it but was killing off Aqua really necessary for the story to proceed? Because again there are other options we could've dealt with Hikaru so is this just tragedy for tragedy's sake?!

Akane! How come she's doing a detective's job when she should be doing her job as the genius actress that she is?! How come you put that weight on a character who almost killed herself and had felt indebted with Aqua's kindness to the point that she's willing to sacrifice herself for Aqua? How come you write off this character with the greatest deepest love through self-sacrifice wheh she is a young lady with a bright future ahead?!

Miyako! You made her take over Ichigo Production, take care of Ruby and Aqua, made her watch them from the sidelines. She knows she can never replace Ai as the twin's mother but she's done her best to be a mother to them then you decide to kill off Aqua could you imagine the guilt she will always feel for not protecting her son enough?!

Taiki! He was happy knowing that he has a brother because apart from the director, he's been alone all his life. I doubt they would ever know that Aqua committed suicide but could you imagine the despair Taiki would feel for losing his parents and his brother to suicide?!

The movie 15-Year-Lie! Even that movie was handled unfairly because are you telling me that with all the hype placed for that movie, with the story of Ai, the nation's favourite idol being told post-humous, is still not enough to be successful so let's kill off her son whom all she ever wanted was to live healthy and happily.

So maybe the message here is to endure life's cruelty, be strong, survive and live on "towards the stars and dreams"? Is that it?

I've been getting really into JJK and oh my gosh, the first year trio is so cute. I'm thinking about them going out and getting ice cream, going out to get their nails done, having a smoothie making contest.

Like, imagine Megumi minding his business and then Itadori bursts into his room like "KUGISAKI ORDERED US PIZZA!"

and then Megumi just immediately dropping whatever he was doing and going to spend time with the other two.

I love them.

I want the three of them in a big warm blanket, snuggling, popcorn in one hand, soda in the other, watching each new installation of the Human Earth Worm series.

Nothing gave Kakashi joy like irritating the farm hand, Iruka, who worked for him and his father. “Farm boy,” Kakashi said, waiting until the brown-haired young man had looked up from weeding the garden, “polish my dogs’ harnesses. I want to be able to see my face in them by tomorrow morning.”

The man’s jaw tightened for a fraction of a second, but then the tension went out of his shoulders and he dipped his head. “As you wish.”

Satisfied with the difficult task he’d given him, Kakashi turned on his heel and returned to the house, ignoring the disapproving look from his father. If Iruk—he meant, if the farm hand—Kakashi refused to use his name—didn’t want so much work, he should start saying no. If anything Kakashi was preparing him for the future! And also… Kakashi glanced outside, then did his best to hide his pout that Iru—the farm hand was still weeding, gloves and long sleeves protecting his arms and a hat hiding away his hair… not that Kakashi was interested in seeing those things!

“There are better ways to get Iruka’s attention than tormenting him,” Sakumo commented, coming up behind him, and if anyone ever asked, Kakashi had known he was there and hadn’t at all been surprised. Also his father was wrong, Kakashi had no interest in Iruka’s attention. The farm hand’s attention. However, anything he said would get turned against him; Kakashi was very familiar with the look in his father’s eyes.

Rather than saying anything about it, Kakashi stood up. “I think I’ll do some reading,” he said while heading back to his room. Not his smoothest exit, but it was better than sitting there while his father attempted to question him. Anything was better than that.

Not three days later, Kakashi carried the house’s empty buckets outside, where Iruka—the farm hand!—was chopping wood for the oncoming winter. It was just the two of them, as his father had left on another one of his journeys.

“Farm boy,” Kakashi ordered as he set them down, “fill these with water.” When he looked up, there was something soft in Iruka’s eyes that made his breath catch in his throat, something that drew out a soft “please?” At the end.

“As you wish.” Never before had Iruka looked at him like that… had he?

Oh my god, the news about Akira Toriyama. I'm stunned, but the grief is seeping in between the cracks and I'm not prepared. He is and was invincible and immortal to me.
