Why do you care so much?
I've been asked this question a few times in the past year - why I spend so much time thinking, reading, and reflecting on antisemitism, especially because I am not Jewish myself. There are a few reasons, really. One of them is that I think antisemitism is a hatred that spawns other hatreds, but even if it did not, it would still be worth studying, because the fact that it is a hatred at all is enough. The fact that antisemitism impacts Jewish people is enough of a reason to oppose it.
It's also because it's important to oppose because of the way it damages the thinking habits of people who believe it. I saw somebody say, "Jew-Hate makes you dumb," once. And though I think it was probably an off the cuff statement for them, it stuck with me, and I think they're right. In my religion, we say hatred is one of the three poisons - it can seriously harm your mental well-being in a way that deepens your suffering in all aspects of life. Often, hatred can also be spread like a contagion. It's something that destroys social harmony and causes severe social dysfunction. And right now, I think antisemitism is the most contagious of hatreds - I've seen people in my life fall off the cliff, I've been able to talk some back from it, and I've seen how so many people wander towards it without any idea that that's what they're doing.
Part of the problem is that antisemites consider themselves righteous in a way I think most racists don't. Often, you'll see "I'm not racist but" I almost never see that with antisemitism. They don't add that qualifier. They just say it. Most racists I know will make a tacit acknowledgment of the racist implications of what they're about to say - antisemitic people don't. They often even engage in anti-Jewish racism while invoking anti-racism.
I don't really know any Jewish people in real life, perhaps only two. But I don't need to know them to know that hating them is wrong. I think I also have a debt of gratitude to many people in the Jewish community because of the advances in Buddhist Studies made by Jewish people, which sounds strange - but it's true that many leading voices and researchers, both in academia and within Buddhism itself happen to be Jewish. I'm not sure why this is, but it's absolutely true. The most prolific translator of Pali into English that I can think of is Jewish. The most impactful Vipassana instructor in America I can think of is Jewish. The most impactful voice in Deity Yoga, for Tibetan Buddhism, is Jewish. People who are Jewish, for some reason, contributed probably more than ex-Christian Americans or atheists combined to the proliferation of Buddhism in the United States.
Buddhists and Jewish people are known to have a close relationship. There are a lot of different reasons for this that I would suggest, but none that add up to explain the amazing contributions to Buddhism made by American Jews.
I think another reason I have for being so interested in antisemitism as a non-Jew is the kind of... political disillusionment I've been experiencing? It's been a disturbing few years, and I haven't seen many people elaborate very well on this feeling of abandonment and horror, witnessing people who you thought shared your values become hateful and deeply violent in their beliefs. The only people I've seen consistently speak about it happen to be Jewish.
I think all of this has helped contribute to a feeling of closeness to Jewish people as a group, despite that I don't really know Jewish people in my real life, and only have one or two Jewish friends online. This year has been a horror show of watching people's minds become twisted - it's so scary in a way I can't quite capture with words right now.
I also sometimes have a back and forth with myself about when and if to mention I'm not Jewish when I talk about antisemitism, because I do think it's totally necessary to explain the perspective from which I speak, but to be honest it feels kind of icky to be like "I'm not Jewish, but antisemitism is bad", because antisemitism is bad whether or not the person saying so isn't Jewish, and I think it might be a negative for people to think "not being Jewish" is something which makes it any less valuable to be against antisemitism, and talk about how against it you are. It's very real that people who talk about antisemitism are perceived to be Jewish, and obviously, it's important not to lead people into thinking you're Jewish when you're not, but adding an "I'm not Jewish" qualifier to statements about antisemitism I worry might contribute to the perception that those against antisemitism are Jewish.
Antisemitism is such an insidious ideology. And it's everywhere. I see it daily in so many different spaces. It has the largest impact on Jewish people, but it also impacts non-Jewish people at times. I distinctly remember being mocked throughout school for "looking Jewish." I think about that Greek restaurant which was attacked because they were thought to be Jewish. Or that man in the Amsterdam violence who tried to help and was then accused of being Jewish himself. It's so deluded, violent, and manages to consume people's thoughts like a parasitic worm in their brain.
Anyways, I planned for this post to be more organized. Oops.

SMT Boardgame Kickstarter Smells Like Suspicious Fish
There's an SMT boardgame. Curb your enthusiasm, you shouldn't back it. And if you did, lower your pledge to like a buck until they clear things up, because as it stands it seems like an incredibly suspect product.
Checking through the Kickstarter comments and Japanese Tweets about the boardgame makes the entire thing seem poorly planned at best. I'll summarize as best I can;
The designer is incredibly infamous in the boardgame community
Naoki Matsunaga, a self-described "board game sommelier", is the designer. You'll find tweets lamenting that "the board game sommelier is involved". Why is he so hated? This thread goes into detail: co_boze on twitter. Part of it is they bashed Werewolf over one game they saw of it, another is they took on a kind of public-face role for boardgames appearing on late night TV shows to talk about them in ways that annoyed boardgamers. They seem to have designed a boardgame based on "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" which ripped off Sid Sackson's 'I'm the Boss". But it's what co_boze talks about next that's really bizarre. The game was apparently banned from most board game cafes and playing spaces. Seminars where people could play the game were hosted, but the venues that hosted these seminars all closed down.
If you keep looking through comments, you start finding claims that his company does multi-level marketing (ie pyramid schemes). To be honest, I don't know if this is true. But even if it isn't, it is really not hard to find people who know of this guy and would really really really REALLY prefer he was not involved.
"Oh fuck, it's THIS guy" is not a reaction that inspires confidence
2. Questionable development and presentation issues.
A regular collaborator with Atlus recently tweeted "The use of AI in Atlus works or derivative works is stictly prohibited." He responded to a reply asking if this was about a board game.
The staff running the SMT BG Kickstarter later clarified the actual -game- wouldn't use AI graphics... but from the looks of it, the promotional materials do.
Dig that... generic metal pipe aesthetic. Nothing screams MegaTen like black plumbing to nowhere.
In totally unrelated news, a board game manufacturer recently tweeted that a Kickstarter used their name without permission, and they're not sure why.
Quote tweets on the post would suggest it was the SMT board game. The comment they are loosely referring to is this:
In a follow-up post, they do specify "The product figures will be made of PVC." and "We will be manufacturing the games in partnership with a factory in China that has a proven track record... " "Figure director Kimura Yuzuru has over 10 years of experience..." and other boring development stuff that I have no issue with. What I do have issue with is how they can say things like they're "considering" which manufacturer to use and namedropping other companies that they're unrelated with. (While I was typing this post, they posted an update that clarified the CMON issue and literally nothing else: here.)
The boardgame is being presented with machine translated English printed on the same cards as the Japanese. But the actual game will have a translator check everything.
they hire translators to localize all game content
Additionally, there was a week long radio silence on the Kickstarter. For reference, Kickstarters are normally very active with the project planners dropping updates, responding to feedback and clearing up any concerns.
Some of the concerns were "How does the game actually play?", a question that would be best answered by dropping a rulebook for people to look at, or better yet showing them an entire run of the game. The SMT BG Kickstarter has boldly chosen neither. Devs have commented the game is on Version 11 and plays well, which makes it strange that they can't share any of it with anyone else.
Actually, when you compare this to how most Kickstarters are run, it becomes very clear the SMT BG Kickstarter is, uh, kinda failing in all possible regards. The first Backer Goal is "Jack Frost Dice" at 2000 backers (not funds raised, BACKERS). Despite getting 300%(!!!) of the initial pledge needed, there are no bonuses or unlocks.
Mind, this lack of information comes after they already delayed the start to supposedly improve Backer Goals and other aspects.
There aren't a shortage of issues - it's ICREA's first boardgame (but not their first tango with SMT; they made the SMT30th Logo, for instance.) The timeline seems totally wack. The staff have been incredibly slow to respond. Cards with tiny font and two languages printed on them. Etc, etc. Maybe individually these issues wouldn't be too concerning. But all of them combined make the product seem incompetently run at best, and at worst an actual scam.
I'm hardly a big influencer in the SMT scene (my biggest contribution is when that fucking succubus gif gets 36k likes on Twitter every 5 months) but I haven't seen any English speaking sources discuss this in detail, when there really should be at least some noise about all of this. Still. if just one of you end up saving 600 bucks on what ends up being a trashfire carcrash project because of this post, then that'll have made the past 30 minutes of typing this shit worth it.

I wrote a draft of a math post, and nearly finished it with "this is too long so I won't do the key example."
Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, now I think the key example may be something I've actually misunderstood and figuring it out may, as a very distant possibility, be step 1 of a research project.
#In short the topic is:#in equivariant mathematics the standard categorical product is the wrong definition of the product#you want an equivariant notion of product which is more general in one particular way#this is true but of course there's multiple equivalent definitions of the categorical product#and the standard definition of equivariant product uses one of these#but I'm not sure if it translates to another one#and if it does that would have some interesting implications

Rainy season anime artwork translation:
A complicated chuunibyou guy
Kaidou Shun
(Voice Actor/ Shimazaki Nobunga)
Kusuo’s classmate that everyone knows is a chuunibyou. However because he’s shy, serious and pure-hearted by nature, he can’t maintain his chuunibyou persona.
⏴In the work, his chuunibyou sometimes causes problems for Kusuo, but in reality, he’s a good and timid child. He thinks of Kusuo, Nendou and Kuboyasu as important friends. Hopefully he’ll never lose this innocence.
Guy with a complicated love for his younger brother
Saiki Kuusuke
(Voice Actor/ Nojima Kenji)
Saiki Kusuo’s older brother, a genius mad scientist with an IQ of 218. Has a fetish for challenging his younger brother and getting defeated. He messes with Kusuo at any opportunity.
⏶Contrary to his handsome looks, his real nature is quite disappointing. He’s an extreme masochist (however, this is limited to only Kusuo).
Complicated clingy guy
Akechi Touma
(Voice Actor/ Kaji Yuuki)
A logical and talkative transfer student who came to Kusuo’s class. He talks rapidly like a machine gun without reading the atmosphere of his surroundings. He suspects that Kusuo is a psychic. Although he was once deceived, he persistently continues to investigate Kusuo.
Guy who attracts complicated people
Saiki Kusuo
(Voice Actor/ Kamiya Hiroshi)
A high-school student who can control various psychic powers. In order to keep his abilities secret, he lives maintaining a moderate distance from those around him. His favorite food is sweets, he especially loves coffee jelly.
⏶Although Kusuo almost never voluntarily expresses his emotions, he shows a blissful smile whilst tasting sweets. Is this cute contrast also a point that attracts people around him!?
⏶⏵In addition to Kaidou, other members of his troublesome group include the strongest idiot Nendou Riki (Voice Actor: Ono Daisuke and the delinquent Kuboyasu Aren (Voice Actor: Hosoya Yoshimasa), whose trouble-causing abilities are immeasurable. Despite that, they're also lovable guys that you can't hate.
(Kusuo’s left shoulder text)
The cheerful, sunny spring has passed and the rainy season has already arrived. Our handsome psychic, Saiki Kusuo, is on his way home whilst avoiding the scattered rain with his telekinesis, but there are people approaching him. His brother, Kuusuke, his classmate, Kusuo and the transfer student Akechi - these three people. Amongst them, Akechi, because of his natural quick thinking and good insight, seems to suspect Kusuo is a psychic!? With the intensity of either a devoted wife or a stalker, he clings to Kusuo and tries to reveal his secret by showering him with machine gun-like talk……Will Kusuo manage to avoid them like the rain and return the clear skies to his heart?
(Kusuo’s right shoulder text)
Just as his older brother, Kuusuke, is coming to pick him up with coffee jelly in one hand, Kaidou, struck by the rain, is showing off his chuunibyou. The transfer student Akechi invites Kusuo under his umbrella, too. Their attention-seeking offensive is even more persistent than the rainy season, how will Kusuo endure it!?
(Big text on white background)
A rain of love from the complicated people pours down intensively on
Kusuo☆
Heart-pounding regretful rain☆
QUESTION
If you were to share an umbrella with someone, who would it be?
Kamiya: Teruhashi-san. Her charm, which causes even the God to be her ally, makes me want to try saying 「offu」 as well.
Shimazaki: Of course, it’d have to be Teruhashi-san!!! Offu!!!
Saiki Kusuo’s Voice Actor
Kamiya Hiroshi-san
Interview
The 2nd season of 「Fierce Argument」.
—If you were to express the growth and changes of Saiki Kusuo in the second season using four-character idioms or similar expressions, what would they be?
Kamiya: 「Fierce Argument (Editor’s note: The sound of swords clashing violently. Also, the state of engaging in heated debate)」 I feel that the degree of this is gradually increasing compared to the 1st season.
–Kamiya-san, please tell us a particular「Kusuo’s charm point」 that you’d like to recommend right now.
Kamiya: I don’t know much about Kusuo, but anyway, Teruhashi-san’s cuteness is a big charm of this work.
–Please tell us the episode or moment that made you laugh whilst portraying Kusuo.
Kamiya: Kusuo is usually cool and it’s hard to read his emotions, but sometimes during particularly intense situations, he strongly interjects with 「You idiot!」, which is fun for me too.
–Kusuo is always extremely popular regardless of gender, Kamiya-san, if you were in his position, what would you do?
Kamiya: If each of them stays with me with the awareness that we're friends, then I will gratefully accept that.
Kaidou Shun’s Voice Actor
Shimazaki Nobunaga-san
Interview
Right now, I’m at my peak chuunibyou stage in life.
–If you were to express the growth and changes of Saiki Kusuo in the second season from a chuunibyou perspective, what would that be?
Shimazaki: 「Jet Black Twilight - Ragnarok of Chaos」 Reason: it just sounds cool!
–Shimazaki-san, please tell us a particular 「Kaidou’s charm point」that you’d like to recommend right now.
Shimazaki: I find the contrast between Shun in his full-blown chuunibyou Jet-Black Wings mode and his natural self, who is a bit of a coward but is honest and caring about his friends, to be appealing.
–Shimazaki-sama, if you discovered a completely soaked Kaidou on a rainy day, what would you do?
Shimazaki: I’d protect him!!!
–Please tell us the episode or moment that made you laugh whilst portraying Kaidou.
Shimazaki: In the 2nd season, episode 4 of episode 8x, the loop episode 「Another Time Leap Challenge! I remember saying the same line over and over again like a broken record, it left a very strong impression on me. It was fun!
–Kaidou is still in full-blown chuunibyou mode, but Shimazaki-san, when were you the most chuunibyou-like in your life?
Shimazaki: Right now. I seriously imagine using magic and saving the world every day.

Subtitles below the keep reading:
Hey you, shut your mouth and look at my paw! DON'T FORGET!! [Incomprehensible sped up gibberish] This... Journey... Money... Loads of coins. [Incomprehensible sped up gibberish] What-about-her? What-about-her? ... What-about-her? 'She still like me? [Quiet but mostly incomprehensible gibberish about subtitles] O P S O P N O-1 1. Here's the spell: Love the mermaid, for sure! The mermaid is HAPPY! Okay! It's pretty normal for a fish, right? Guuuyyyssss, beeeee caaarefuuulll wiiiiith theeee GIIIIIRRRRLSSS!!! [Incomprehensible] Oh! Silly! Oh yes! Lamb chop boy! [Incomprehensible] [Very quietly, while white noise is playing over it] Goood eevening, aand weeelcome too the shoooowww... [In the background] Ohhh, mooney!
#video#elevenlabs#i generated three versions of this video and basically spliced together the best parts from each one into one thing#and also toned down the flashing of the red and white pound signs to be a lot slower#i'm honestly surprised how well everything spliced together. i was expecting it to be even a little bit noticeable but. nope apparently not#i did a few generations of meet the spy's intro and tried to splice together the best bits but theres just so much happening with the audio#there's a lot of funny portions of that audio. maybe i'll try again at it and see if i cant get the parts i like in one thing#truthfully i also don't know how much folks'll like these. as in compared to around the time the infomaniac stuff was made#so i'm not sure how much of these i'll be putting together and uploading. mostly just been fucking around and showing my friends#i'm mostly just intrigued to hear what the ai tries to say with some of these generations#since it's just trying to translate from one language to another#in this case. providing videos in english. and setting the translation from russian to english.#which seems to be the best thing so far (that i've tried) that causes more of the words being said to be off-script#like it'll usually most be like whats originally being said mostly but other times it's completely different from the source#i think this dub shows it best. between ''hey you. shut your mouth and look at my paw!'' and ''love the mermaid. the mermaid is happy!!''#i am also officially out of characters to generate more so i won't really be doing more than what i've already done for a while#i wanted to try and give it a video that plays backwards. flip that. then let it dub over it forwards.#but i'd have to wait until i get the character limit reset

Northern Lights
.
I heard a voice that cried, “Balder the Beautiful is dead, is dead!”
.
Who knows what to call the lonely exhilaration of gazing out into a bright Northern sky? Who can name it?
Jill could.
It was the same feeling that came to her at the teetering edge of a cliff at the end of the world. The same feeling as when she said her goodbyes to Puddleglum and Scrubb before they freed the prince. It was the same feeling that engulfed her now, sitting in the professor’s library with a volume of poetry before her.
.
The wild northern wastes were well named: utterly wild, perfectly desolate, and terribly Northern.
It was lonely there and often cold, but the sky was an endless whorl of gales and gray clouds. The stones were indigo under the pale winter sunlight, and at sunset they glowed a soft gold, as though lit from within. The gorges and moors lay before her, and Jill loved them for their vastness and their distance. Little grew in that country, but that which did was full of vigor. The grass was short and coarse. Every tree was victorious.
On a still, deep breathing winter night, Jill lay on her back beneath a covering sky. It seemed beautiful to her, rich and strong and glorious. Her eyes drank in the breadth of it until her tears began to blind her. Yet even then, she still couldn’t look away.
She felt bigger here in the wastes, like the landscape. Stronger, wider. The further she walked, the more she felt herself stretch out. One of these days, maybe, she would catch hold of herself at the edge and tug, and Jill Pole would open up clear as the Northern sky.
.
And through the misty air passed the mournful cry of sunward sailing cranes.
.
The thing that surprised Jill most about the battle with the serpent was this: there wasn’t any yelling. Always, it seemed, whenever she read stories about people fighting with swords, the combatants would let loose some guttural yell before their blows fell. They would scream and writhe in pain as they died. They would shout instructions to their fellows, “Look out!” or “Hit him there!” But the whole affair with the serpent passed with very little noise.
The poison-green coil constricted around the prince; he raised his arms and got clear, struck the serpent hard, and then Scrubb and Puddleglum dispatched the creature with heavy, hacking blows. The monster died writhing, but not screaming. And then it was over.
The thing that surprised Jill most about the moments before battle was, of course, the noise. She could hear her own heartbeat in her ears. She couldn’t stop listening to her own breathing. Every footstep rang out like a gong, and any words exchanged rang with a kind of finality that made them sound louder than anything.
“You are of high courage,” Rilian told her when it was over.
Yet the thing in Jill’s chest just then didn’t feel like courage. It was a deep breath, a plunge, and a release. It was loud and quiet all at once, till she was standing, blinking in the night air as snowballs whizzed round her, and maybe that was something like courage after all.
.
And now, there was a stirring in her chest as she reread the words on the page. Sing no more / O ye bards of the North / Of Vikings and of Jarls! / Of the days of the Eld / preserve the freedom only / nor the deeds of blood!
She thought of grief. Of freedom.
The lonely ache in her belly grew stronger. She felt herself uplifted into the huge regions of sky that were just beyond those cliffs, weightless as the breath beneath her buoyed her up, further, further…
.
When she saw Caspian up close, Jill thought that he looked like the sort of person who was meant to live in a castle. A silly thought, perhaps, since she knew he was a king– only she wasn’t thinking of Cair Paravel. No, Jill was picturing the ruins of an old British castle she’d visited once on holiday. She still remembered how the stonework had loomed over her, all towering arches and crumbling walls. That was where Caspian seemed to belong. He had an air of ancient tragedy about him.
When Rilian disappeared, all things had wept but one. The serpent coiled beneath the earth and flicked its forked tongue, spewing poison.
Now, the king half rose to bless his son. He whispered a few words as he caressed Rilian’s cheek, words meant only for those beloved ears. Jill saw Caspian’s lips move and wondered what a man like that could possibly say, when time ran so short.
.
They laid him in his ship, with horse and harness, as on a funeral pyre. Odin placed a ring upon his finger, and whispered in his ear.
.
Jill furtively took Myths of the Northmen and held it up to the professor with a question in her eyes. She was still shy around him and Miss Plummer, though she wished she wasn’t.
“Would you like to take that with you?”
“...Please.”
.
It takes a certain kind of person to be exhilarated by the heights. You’ve got to love vastness more than you fear falling.
.
They walked to the train station with an autumn wind blowing hard, and though Jill couldn’t fathom why, she turned and saw Lucy grinning, fierce and joyful– grinning and reaching a hand out towards her friend.
Jill reached back and grabbed it. “What will you do, once we’re back in Narnia?” she asked.
The wind blew harder. The feeling of anticipation grew and grew, until it felt so big that she couldn’t dream of containing it. And there was Lucy, holding Jill’s hand and laughing like it was easy.
.
Preserve the freedom only, not the deeds of blood!
.
The second time Jill went to Narnia, she found herself not at its edge, but at its end.
The thing about the Norse apocalypse is: it feels believable. It doesn’t reach beyond earth’s horizon to pull down hope beyond hope. It’s only the kind of courage that hopeless humans have: you are going to die, so you might as well die bravely.
They found the last king of Narnia bound to a tree. His eyes were faintly red from crying, and his wrists and ankles red from the coarseness of his fetters.
In the Norse myths, Loki broke free of his fetters at the end of the world. He escaped to the helm of a ship made from the fingernails of the dead.
The last king of Narnia fell forward onto the ground when Eustace cut his bonds. Jill crouched down beside him and watched as he rubbed feeling back into his legs. He wasn’t so much older than her, she thought. Jill was sixteen years old; the last king of Narnia could not be older than twenty-two.
In the myths, the gods were ancient, hewn from the bodies of giants old as the earth.
Jill put out a hand and helped the last king of Narnia to his feet. Not for the last time, she shivered. Something deep inside her (deeper than her chest, than her heart, than the marrow of her bones, deep as her soul, deeper) was singing an elegy and she didn’t know why, or how, or where it had come from. The king clutching her hand, who could have been her older brother, would have no heir.
Yet when he asked, “Will you come with me?” Jill could only smile.
“Of course,” she said. “It’s you we’ve come to help.”
.
And the voice forever cried, "Balder the Beautiful is dead, is dead!"
.
“This really is Narnia at last,” murmured Jill. The springtime wood had little in common with the wintry lands she had traveled the last time she was here– but it awakened the same feelings of Northernness in her chest.
Their party may as well have been the only people in the world, for how isolated their little wooden path seemed. Yet it wasn’t lonely, really, cocooned in all that green with the wind in the leaves and the primroses nodding and blue of the sky peeking through above.
Jewel told stories about what ordinary life was like when there was peace here. As he spoke, Jill could almost hear the trees' voices speaking out of the living past, whispering, stay, stay. She was caught up to a great height, looking down across a rich, lovely plain full of woods and waters and cornfields, which spread away and away till it got thin and misty from distance.
“Oh Jewel–” Jill said with a dreamy sigh, “wouldn’t it be lovely if Narnia just went on and on– like what you say it has been?”
She needn’t be a queen, as Susan and Lucy had been, but Jill would’ve liked to stay. She would've liked it all to stay, if it could. She might have been a woodmaid in a place like this: with the turn of the seasons, the swaying trees, swords into plowshares. Oh, if only she could stay!
Ahead, the last king of Narnia was softly singing a marching song. Jill tilted her head back and let warm shafts of sun caress her face.
.
I saw the pallid corpse of the dead sun borne through the Northern sky.
.
“So,” said the last king of Narnia, “Narnia is no more.”
He tried to send them back. Jill shook her head. It was very loud and very quiet. “No, no, no, we won’t. I don’t care what you say. We’re going to stick by you whatever happens, aren’t we Eustace?”
They couldn’t go back anyway. Neither would they flee, not south across the mountains nor North into the great wide wastes. No, they would stay. They slept in a holly grove on the edge of ruin, waiting for the bonfires to light.
Jill slept fitfully, but in between she dreamed. She was high up in the air, buffeted by clouds and pierced by shafts of silver sunlight.
.
They all died, in the myths. Jill knew that. It seemed beautiful and brave when she read it in her book, tucked away safe in the Professor’s library. It was terrifying now– and yet it was beautiful and brave still.
The dogs came bounding up, every one of them, running up to the king and his men with their tails wagging. One of them leapt at Jill and licked her face, tongue roughly lapping up the sweat and tears that had dried on her cheeks.
“Show us how to help, show us how, how, how!” the dogs were barking, almost ebullient in their enthusiasm. Jill bit back a sob. How lovely, she thought. How terribly beautiful. How dreadfully brave.
.
So perish the old Gods!
.
The white rock gleamed like a moon in the darkness when Jill finally reached it. She ran back to it alone, her hands shaking, while her friends stayed forward with their gleaming swords and Jewel’s indigo horn.
The while rock gleamed like the moon. Jill’s first shot flew wide and landed in the soft grass. But she had another arrow on her string the next instant. It was speed that mattered, not aim. Speed, and turning aside when she cried, so as not to drip tears on her bowstring.
The white rock gleamed. In the myths, a wolf devoured the moon. Peter’s wolf, slain many thousand years ago in this world, opened his jaw wide and darkness fell over everything.
Her next arrow found its mark. After that, she lost track. She pulled, and she prayed that her hands kept still another minute.
The unique thing–maybe the appealing thing–about the Norse myths, was that they told men to serve gods who were admittedly fighting with their backs to the wall and would certainly be defeated in the end. Jill let loose another arrow, felt the white rock at her back, and she knew that the clawing fear–beauty–bravery deep in her gut was the same feeling that she felt on the heights. The same feeling, but a different face. You’ve got to love vastness more than you fear falling.
.
“I feel in my bones,” said Poggin, “that we shall all, one by one, pass through that dark door before morning. I can think of a hundred deaths that I would rather have died.”
“It is indeed a grim door,” said Tirian. “It is more like a mouth.”
“Oh, can’t we do anything to stop it,” said Jill. Better to be dashed to the ground than it was to be devoured.
“Nay, fair friend,” said Jewel. “It may be for us the door to Aslan’s country and we sup at his table tonight.”
A hand tangled itself in her hair and started to pull. Jill braced herself hard, for a moment, until her strength gave out. She was standing on the edge of a high, Northern cliff. She took another step, and fell.
.
Perhaps when the moment comes, our bite will prove better than our howls. If not, we shall have to confess that two millennia of Christianity have not yet brought us to the level of the Stoics and Vikings. For the worst (according to the flesh) that a Christian need face is to die in Christ and rise in Christ; some were content to die, and not to rise, with Father Odin.
.
The world inside the stable was beautiful. It made Jill’s chest ache in all the loveliest ways.
.
Build it again, O ye bards, fairer than before!
#okayyyy so#i've been down the tolkien/lewis/norse mythology rabbit hole lately#it's a lot#but i've been picking at this piece in my head for a while now#which is more a rhapsody than anything else#but another for my narnia/classic lit sequence of pieces#the quotes are mostly pulled from Longfellow's Tegners Drapa translation#which Jack discusses in Surprised by Joy as one of the works that inspired feelings of joy and 'Northernness' in his boyhood#there's also a Weight of Glory quote in there#(paraphrased)#and one from the intro to Joy Gresham's book on the 10 Commandments that Jack wrote#(that's that last passage in italics)#i'm not really sure i was trying to make a point with this so much as just. explore that feeling of northernness#bc really northernness is two things#it's joy and exhileration brought on by beauty#and it's that beautiful hopeless courage when faced with unwinnable battles#and i love how intertwined those two things are for lewis#and let's be honest for me too#so that's what this is#hope it holds together okay#narnia#chapter one#night under narnia#dying of thirst#pontifications and creations#leah stories

Coming at you with another sneak peek of one of the fics I've been working on with my TWST OC Azura! Once I've finished polishing them to oblivion, I'll be posting them as a series on AO3 since they pretty much go in chronological order. Anyway, here's a snippet from "Only Once"! (Please note that this'll likely be different from the final version.)
~ ~ ~
Something dark blue from somewhere behind the fairies kept him from continuing, the faintest recognition surfacing within his mind. But it disappeared before he could identify it.
What was that. . . ? It almost seemed familiar somehow. . . .
“And now the crown with the magic stone has been placed upon her head,” Azul pointed out, pulling Malleus out of his thoughts.
“Interesting,” Vil said. “They made that haute couture crown for the larger fairy. The gemstone color does match her dress nicely.”
“Is this really the time to do a fashion check?!” Crowley hissed.
Another figure approached the fairies, politely announcing her presence and prompting the golden fairy to turn around.
“Woah. . . .” Kalim breathed. “Look at that fairy’s wings! They’re huge!”
The group’s attention shifted to the very human-sized newcomer, and a small noise of surprise escaped Malleus.
It’s you. . . . He found his attention fixed onto her. She carried herself with grace as she spoke with the golden fairy. What more, her wings harbored that flicker of blue he had seen just moments ago. Even her hair was the same hue.
His eyes drifted from her wings to her serious expression. Why would she be here? Has she been invited to this assemblage? Or is there another reason?
#TWST#Twisted Wonderland#Fairy Gala#Azul Ashengrotto#Vil Schoenheit#Dire Crowley#Malleus Draconia#Kalim Al-Asim#TWST OC#Azura Heron#I'll post links to the fics on here when I've finished of course.#Or maybe I'll post them in their entirety on here too.#Or both. But I'm not sure.#On another note I did take bits of JP and ENG translations and kinda smushed them together for a balance between the two.#Although I very much appreciate the official ENG translations (blunders aside); I do prefer the JP ones since I'm used to those.

This is a personal post.
I'm sorry, I just don't want to work with people who can't have an email discussion about a gift for the boss without getting in snide digs at something, anything, anymore. I don't know how much more I can handle of this before I say something controversial right to their faces.
#random personal stuff#one of us suggested getting her a Nice Bible (maybe a KJV a safe traditional choice for an older person like our boss)#and so far one librarian has shot that down and reverted the discussion to 'properly' adding a huge donated Bible to the collection#and the other has shot it down with a pointed Remark about the translation choice#plus a passive-aggressive 'sorry if I'm--what's the expression?--behind the curve'#and I just can't. I just can't with these men.#sure we can go with another idea that's fine I'm not married to this option#but it's rude to the guy who suggested it to rip his idea apart

Dr. ZEXenstein (Patreon)
#Doodles#SCII#ZEX#The Captain#DAX#I made this before Halloween so it was appropriately spooky at the time of creation! I swear!!#I have a favourite Frankenstein: The Musical animatic that occasionally goes through the rotation but it was still a surprise to crossover#But you know how it goes - at first it's just a fun initial silly/spooky idea and then my brain clicks back on and Oh No This Is A Thing lol#But for now! Silliness!#I'm still really enamoured with the idea of ZEX as a warrior and a scholar - very Thucydides y'know ♪#His extremely brilliant tactical mind needs puzzles! And I mean with all this free time on Cerenkov and given the right Ingredients#He'd certainly have the motivation to try and figure out the trick to life maybe-very-specifically-about-humans lol#It does raise the question of what a ''human'' made by a VUX might be like ♪ Yes he's a reanimated corpse(s) but like#Surely even with all his research - at the very least something /could/ have gotten lost in translation :)#Maybe even just the inherent Thing of humanness - the soul or respect of the dead? Like swearing in another language if you know what I mean#It's interesting :) I mean it's interesting either way haha it's a fun concept!#Especially with Frankenstein specifically since y'know - the creature's whole Thing of why he Came Out Wrong was mostly on Victor!#He rejected and abandoned his ''child'' - of course he's gonna have some emotional issues Victor!#ZEX tho - ZEX has no reason to abandon a human(oid) especially one he intentionally went about bringing about!#So his eyes are a little weird - so he's got some odd stitches and he moves strangely and smells a bit - how different is that from humans?#All humans are monstrous! What's a few extra details? ZEX is already a xenophile and a teratophile is what I'm saying lol#DAX on the other hand is not convinced lol ♪ Drawing his head tendrils change expressions so fast was fun haha#As was drawing the Captain all stitched and with the bolts! Yes yes they're movie addition shhh all art is scaffolded over time#The real question is where ZEX got all the parts from - is that the Captain for realsies?#Or a fun role fill-in ''What if ZEX made a human and it was the Captain [before the Captain would've existed anyway]?''#It could go either way! It'd be sad if ZEX lost his Captain and then tried to bring him back :')#But then again the alternative is him like........harvesting? (Off the battlefield? Ew lol)#Oh yeah and do you like the broken-off head tendril as a stand-in for Victor's whitening hair lol#I imagine it went necrotic and wasn't quite fully reaccepted - it's still full of blood and healthy but the skin is faded and pale hehehe

pinning to the workshop corkboard: you've heard of winston "i'm cassandra" billions clairvoyance concepts for fun & profit, hear also of winston billions sphinx concepts (you must be This understanding of what he means to proceed)
#not a brand new one but the other day i was like have i ever put that to words & post? then i saw two unrelated sphinxposting reminders#winston billions#the riddlerrr sphinx also like yeah yeah winged lion form. kind of a hassle but optional perhaps still b/c yeah that's fun#did have the thought ''what if his pet cat is also secretly what has the winged lion that kills you form lol''#also the thought that whatever Gate / Boundary / [cannot proceed] happens could be Varied as well as Involuntary#would add to the like episodic type possibilities like oops how do we get past this? what's the issue? even winston may not know#meanwhile like Deliberate Obfuscation would only go so far re: the metaphor here being relevant to winston the autistic person#he Has to be understood; on his terms. you gotta work to & actually figure out what he is conveying to you#i suppose also ''or die'' is an option here lol. nightmare scenario for everyone who'd rather steamroll him forever to be sure; but#[you just Can't proceed] applied less lethally than that still affords plenty of You Have To Understand What He Means possibilities#see also: [rian as basically an oc based mostly on pre production hiatus funny little guy status] translating what he means....#just Not Really A Problem shrugmoji (audhd solidarity (rian 5x05 thru 07 oc continues))#yet would hardly imply taylor is a party who wouldn't also usually understand winston easily & accurately (not like 5x07 does either)#plus then complications like do ppl twist Understanders' arms for cheat codes sometimes. try to posit them as hypotheticals lol#in this world where sometimes a coworker is a sphinx or is; in tandem with his cat? well sometimes they're autistic. nonbinary#genderfluid. wear glasses. just another day at the encouragement to crush coworkers factory#anyway something where if i had a zillion detailed thoughts on this it might be other than a brief nocturnal text post but#see also: who says solving a riddle can't be a conversation / the riddlerrr is also trying to figure it out.#like sure i guess i can give clues & hints but i'm not even sure they're useful / not sure what i'm clueing you in to either#clue....like minotaurs out here (clew like the thread/yarn. like is used to find your way through / out of a labyrinth)#anyway e.g. like oh you can't do [xyz] in whatever thwarted way? how can Figuring Out Smthing W/Winston help? maybe he doesn't know either#maybe his cat has materialized huge & Theoretically lethal to thwart smthing. maybe regular size & just swatting at you. who can say#maybe winston is like hm i see that i can fly or kill you more than usual. who else can say. &c. imagine#meanwhile tfw ''okay i genuinely get what you mean'' doesn't guarantee then like. proceeding w/any basic respect beyond that lol#but already more leverage / more effort in that by far & perhaps that ability to just shut ppl out of plenty of [access / do whatever]#when indeed even that leverage had / effort given is considered Too Much#can only be guaranteed basic respect in the winston billions guaranteed basic respect au

Uhm..................
#I got an ask‚ and to answer I was bracing myself to make a big bsd content masterpost#And I did! I was already on my way to share all the manga reading platform I use for every manga‚ I had already listed them up#And I was going to add the additional content like anime streaming resources and art scans resources...#But now I'm having some serious reconsiderations#Like I was happy to make a masterpost! Making masterposts is fun-#and fuels the autistic need to put every little thing in little categories#But now I don't know if it's... Safe to have them all in one place?? I was very glad to share with people the resources I personally use-#but I really don't want to make something that is just. A big list of sites to report / shut down. The thought scares me immensely#And I thought it was safe to share manga reading platforms on Tumblr but what about‚ to name one‚ n/yaa? Would it be safe to link to that?#And it's something I'd highly want to include because some stuff that's there you won't find anywhere else‚#such as the Dead Apple official English translation‚ the official Beast English scans...#Same would go‚ to make another example‚ for m/initokyo‚ or anime streaming platform.#Is it safe to share those... Uhm... More hidden websites through Tumblr? And if not‚ do I have any alternative for sharing?#I'm quite sad because I was already half way through making the list-#but now I'm not sure it's worth to continue if I never end up sharing it.#But then again the safety of people who share content has the maximum priority to me– I wouldn't be able to do ANYTHING without them#Mmmmmmmmmmmhhhh...#I even contemplated sharing the masterlist through text file‚ but I'm not sure if that might work out.#For one‚ I will never EVER use g/oogle docs or any g/oogle service for the matter. I'd rather die#So... I'd really appreciate it if anyone could advice me on this / had any suggestion / thought#random rambles#Sorry for the long ramble. I'm stuck

I want to start selling stuff like stickers, charms etc. unfortunately Germany is the land of bureaucracy so there's a fuckton to read and to find out so that the Finanzamt (Tax office) doesn't show up at my door one day to demand money because I sold three stickers last year.
#considering the financial stuff I'm not even sure it's gonna be worth it#like i don't expect to sell more than maybe one or two things a year.#or maybe I'm heavily underestimating things. but considering i don't really have a platform to advertise my stuff i doubt it#i don't want to sound like I'm complaining about numbers but most followers i have on social media is 26 on Twitter#and im pretty sure at least half of them are bots.#also im not posting art there anymore#random german because idk if I can even translate this:#ich weiß ja noch nicht mal ob ich dann nen Gewerbe anmelden müsste oder ob das als freiberuflich zählt @.@#Another problem is that i can't estimate if/how much i would sell because to have an estimate I'd need to... you know gater experience#by doing it?

the pure brainrot i subject myself to when i constantly re-watch the same 360p videos of the animals to just barely catch the act of alan glancing at eric and paying close attention to his body language when performing to know how to approach certain portions of the songs, or end the song in general...
#guess what i was subjecting myself to last night#alan does it all over the place in the 'around and around' and 'talkin' 'bout you' performances..........#eeeeee yes some of the few videos we have of them actually on screen together i wonder why connie watches this so much 😐😑😐#the way in which alan uses his keyboard to back up eric's voice to the point of calling himself eric's 'translator' and amanuensis........#wAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH PERPETUALLY EXPLODING.......#them... thank you for sharpening my analysis skills in such a profound way i will forever dedicate my braincells to making sure the world#knows that you two are silly and kind and homoerotic with one another and legitimately enjoy the other's company and musical influence#aGGGGH i need a dr pepper and i also need more animals footage featuring alan some day to study like a peer-reviewed textbook#alan price#eric burdon#the animals#classic rock#gif#60s rock#british invasion#things i said today#animusings#that tag is from my animal blog 😔🙏 animusings everywhere including when i'm at work

Interview with Setsumaru Masahoko (Nippon Broadcast Organization)
Published in the hide BIBLE (by Akemi Oshima) 2008
Q1: When did you meet hide for the first time?
A: I think the first time was when hide-san came as a guest to a radio program I was in change of to promote his solo single. But I only really talked to him when I took a business trip to L.A. from 31 March until 4 April 1998 to record “hide’s All Night Nippon R” radio program.
Q2: Please tell us what kind of impression you had at the time.
A: He seemed like a shy person. At that time, hide-san happened to be checking the jacket for his single “Pink Spider” and I remember that the way he handled that jacket was very polite, making me think, “hide-san must be a sensitive person.”
Q3: Please tell us of an episode with hide that left an impression on you.
A: It happened when we were at a Japanese restaurant, celebrating the three days of recording being over. We had a passionate conversation about music, and I can’t forget him saying, “I really want to get a Grammy.” Also, he wanted to do this event in Summer, wanted to promote his “Psyborg Rock” sound, and I felt like he really was a creator from the heart, overflowing with ideas.
Q4: What kind of person was hide to you?
A: The “big brother” of my heart.
Q5: If you ever saw him live, please tell us of your impression.
A: Dramatic, powerful, beautiful. The things hide-san produced where always sensationally beautiful.
Q6: Out of hide’s songs, which is your favorite and why?
A: I can’t choose a “favorite”, but “Pink Spider” is profoundly memorable. Because I heard hide-san himself talk about it a lot, and every time I hear it, it brings up irreplacable images of the promotional video and the members of Spread Beaver for me.
#hide#interview#translation#hide BIBLE#another delightfully quick one#shy bean is shy#I'm not entirely sure about the name of the interviewee though#Japanese names can be... a thing
