Five, or ten years in the future, they can take the role of Dom according to the other needs in no time, but that can happen only when the relationship is based on partnership.

And it's a beautiful thing to see a dynamic like that portrayed with such grace by Nic and Luke. Not because it's the first time - it's not - that tv shows such dynamics, but because it allows people to understand that assertiveness is vastly different from authoritativeness, and that is a thing way too many people still need to know.

Seungkwan- I'd say, in his case, he'd be the most touched by the fact that someone took out the time to portray him as a main character of their story. On the opposite end, however, will fully fight in asks (off anon of course) with the author if they go too opposite to any of his natural character traits. Will stay on the fluff side.

They Were Eleven (1986)

Heck yeah, 80s anime. I became an anime fan in the 2000s so I tend to seek out the moe aesthetic, but I can definitely appreciate the beauty in older gens too. It seems like the 80s were a sci-fi paradise and the style of the time fits the genre well. Thoughts below.

Notes:

It's always nice when an anime film is adapting a one shot rather than a series, makes so much more sense. Almost no content was lost except for a tiny bit of world building here and there. The pacing was just right.

I kinda hoped Frol would have a deeper voice, but I guess they thought that would be too gay or something. In the dub they have a southern accent which I guess is to account for their hick dialect in the original Japanese. I could tell that they spoke in a manly way at least (lots of "zo" sentence endings, for example)

I was surprised to see this movie even got a dub. It's pretty high quality too, no old dub scuff. Impressive. (Too bad no one remembers it lol)

They did the cheesy epilogue thing where it's like "so-and-so went on to become a pilot" (this is common at the end of documentaries and biopics). The thing that bugged me is that they revealed Glenn died shortly after the film!? Talk about a downer. The ending was so upbeat that it caught me off guard.

Seeing this plot for a second time I feel like they overreacted to the 11 person thing and to Frol's gender. I guess I get the space paranoia, but I feel like if I was in this situation I'd be like "there's an extra person? Eh, oh well" I might even be like "Sweet! Bonus help." Maybe that's naive. And Frol's gender? Why did the dude that saw them in the shower briefly act afraid of Frol? A ship full of aliens with alien biology and an intersex person is shocking why?

A food fight scene! I'm not sure I've ever seen that in anime before so I thought it was an American trope. Or maybe it's an 80s/90s thing...

I know they were basically forced to care about each other (to pass the test) but it was nice to see everyone concerned for Ganga and Frol when they got sick. Although things get tense they're an overall mature and intelligent cast

With the colorful cast and the "only 0.1% of people pass" schtick, I feel like this could be a Hunter x Hunter arc (space Hunter x Hunter would be kinda sick)

Everyone acting all buddy buddy with Tada at the end was kinda bullshit lol. They were at his throat like 2 seconds ago.

Just like in the manga we got that nice body (and racial) diversity. One thing I noticed more in this adaptation was the major height difference between Tada and some of the others during the handshake scene. It's a small thing, but it's nice having a male main character who doesn't need to dominate everyone else physically.

The #nohomo ending is still bullshit >:/

The music made for the movie just seemed like generic 80s pop, but it was still nice. Cool to get an insert song during the fight scene (the fansubbers provided karaoke subs haha)

Ah, you might be right; I think I skimmed that entry's propaganda, and it was very specific to whatever series it was about without dropping the full series name, and I was like "Maybe this is Warrior Cats? I feel lazy, I'm not going to look heavily into it."

So, as a reminder: use the full but common name for the series! For example, Miraculous Ladybug (this seems to be the most common title despite being a shortened version), Warrior Cats, BBC Sherlock, etc. And check that you don't have a space after the title's entry, as that counts as a different entry than the title without the space when using the UNIQUE function in Google sheets (which is how I count the unique entries).

As for recommendations, this is hard because I watch a lot of trash, especially recently, but:

- You can never go wrong with Revolutionary Girl Utena. Note: this show (and start with the show, not the movie) has a lot of potentially triggering stuff, so check out those warnings before you start if you have any triggers at all. It uses the triggering stuff very well and to tell its story and explore its themes, not just for, like, titillation though. Indeed, it is, I would argue, necessary for the story and themes the show seeks to explore. It is legally free on Youtube in...I want to say 480p, and in better resolution on Crunchyroll and Funimation (yes, Funimation's site is still up; I find it superior to Crunchyroll's since it actually includes closed captions for dubs, although it doesn't include newer anime from after the two companies merged). Also, you want to watch the sub for this. I'm normally not one to say "the dub is bad" and stuff and be a purist about it—in fact I normally go to bat for dubs—but, uh... yeah, the dub is bad this time. Crispin Freeman and Dan Green are delightful in it though, I'll give it that.

- Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood uses its female characters well. Maybe it could be better, I've seen some people in these tournaments have beef with it, but it's a pretty perfectly told story, like solid A+, with a lot of really great female characters who I find very satisfying so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. This is on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and I believe Amazon Prime?

- Don't let the title fool you: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is a fantastic show with great female characters who are complex and human, have compelling arcs, and are vital to the story. The relationship between Rebecca and Paula is central to the show and SO good, especially as the show goes on. The title is because it explores the trope of the crazy ex-girlfriend in a very humanizing way, and the title/opening song even mentions how the title is a sexist term, but it's a lot more nuanced than that. Also, it's a musical with very good original songs every episode. But check trigger warnings for this show too though. The show is streaming on Netflix last I checked.

- Uhh... maybe the first two seasons of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic? It's a kid's show, but it's good. I haven't seen it in years and years though, so I don't know if I can still fully vouch for it. I believe it is streaming on Netflix?

- Revue Starlight? I haven't thought about it heavily, but I had no beef watching it. This is streaming on HiDive.

- I've heard good things about Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, but I can't vouch for it personally. It's streaming on Crunchyroll.

Honestly, I know more imperfect shows that I'm satisfied with, like I give it a B+ to A- at least, but that I haven't thought heavily about than stuff where I'm like, "Oh, yeah, definitely, definitely, nothing I'd pick out there as a problem." For example, Baccano! is probably imperfect (as well as not streaming legally anywhere), but I don't remember being, like, struck by a bunch of problems there. So, I'm not the best for recs that I can give a 100% guarantee for.

grant - yes, grant is a very jealous person when it comes to someone he loves romantically. he often tries not to show how jealous he is and will try to deny it but it's quite obvious. not only will he be jealous usually if he sees someone flirting, talking, dancing with the person he is interested in, he can also grow quite jealous of their close friends as well. he's not above intervening and it can range between him attempting to be subtle, protective or if it's clear the person he likes is very uncomfortable with said attention, he can even get physical. one of the reasons he tries to hide his jealousy is because more times than not he puts said person at a distance therefore has no right or real reason to be jealous even though he is.

kassy - no, kassy does not get jealous. though she's usually not one for titles when it comes to dating, i'd say she views herself as polyamorous. she can definitely be quite possessive but that is more for the enjoyment of the power dynamic rather than needing others to keep their hands to themselves (unless that touch is unwanted of course). she has no problem sharing her friends, subs, situationships (to those she deems worthy of her people*) if that is something they'd like too since to kassy, the more the merrier. she also knows that she cannot provide her partners with the kind of relationships and future some may want therefore she will often encourage them to seek other connections. plus, she's very confident about herself and in what she can offer to people.

trinity - yes, and while usually she can contain herself, once she gets a little bit of alcohol in her system trinity can want to fight someone if they look at her partner the wrong way let alone come up to them to flirt or touch them. she can become extremely jealous and possessive of her partner if she feels threatened and go between cursing someone out and trying to fight them, and trying to make said person hitting on her partner jealous by being extremely possessive (kissing them, having their partners hands very obviously on her and vice versa, essentially claiming them as hers and her as theirs). so though trin might come off as shy and quiet most of the time, she can absolutely lash out against someone if they try to get between her and her partner, she's a little crazy.

alec - yes and no, alec is polyamorous and simply loves love too much to be jealous a lot of the time. i'd say he's more likely to be envious of what others have rather than jealous if someone he likes is with another person or flirts, etc. he also doesn't feel as though he is allowed to be jealous because he has issues himself with being completely committed to one person and is very overly friendly. he's aware that he can make any of his potential partners jealous so he tries to be sensitive to that. but i'd say 99% of the time he does not feel that same jealousy others would feel.

rev - yes, they are extremely jealous and possessive. they can become very aggressive towards just about anyone they think is looking at their partner or talking to them too much, let alone if they were to touch them even if it was friendly and not flirty. most of the time they're able to scare people away but a part of them knows it's not necessarily healthy to be so possessive and i think if they were to have a steady partner that they would try their best to work on that but they very much want to protect their partner and not let anyone think they can take advantage of their partners kindness. also they want their partner to choose them and want to be with them as much as rev does their partner.

nate - not really. i'd say nate is also a pretty confident guy and that while he can be protective, i wouldn't say he often gets jealous. not unless specific situations where there is a girl he really likes/loves that he cannot be with and has to watch be with someone else. but with his partner by his side nothing can upset him because she has chosen him and no matter what chatting or flirting goes on he knows that she wants to be with him. i mean i can see him getting jealous if it gets to be too much to the point it feels disrespectful but overall he will let his woman do what she likes and only step in if to protect her or make other people jealous, because they would be since his partner is a complete knock out and he's madly in love with her.

Everyone is a little bit different so definitely just take what appeals to you and leave what doesn't. But I'll share sort of a vague overview of some of the common feelings that I think a lot of subs and littles are seeking:

To feel safe, loved and respected while being taken care of by someone who they have given more authority than your typical 'vanilla' relationship. They may want to feel like they aren't in control or aren't in charge. They may want to feel small, to be useful and of service, to feel protected, watched over, held accountable, and just seen for who they really are deep down. With littles, they may be more inclined to want to feel innocent, carefree, child-like, doted on, pampered, or spoiled.

If there are any specific feelings that you know you want to feel but that I didn't list, be sure to tell him those things, too.

From there, some general examples of how you might find those feelings would be important to share. These vary even more from person to person, I think, but I'll still try to give some examples.

Things that might make you feel like you aren't in charge:

You two agree to specific areas of your day personally, or perhaps about your life together - that he gets to decide. Personal examples might be things like what time you go to bed, or what panties you wear. Examples from your life together might be what you guys have for dinner when you're together or who drives when you're going on a date.

To feel useful/needed/of service:

Maybe he listens to guided meditation before bed, and you get assigned the act of service of finding him new guided mediation audio clips to try out each week. Or he shares his google calendar with you, and you help remind him of his upcoming appointments and social events.

To feel feel watched over or held accountable:

Maybe you're given daily rules about which chores to do, or specific ways to act or not act. Rules can really include basically anything you guys wanted. For each thing, you would be required to report regularly, perhaps with photo evidence if possible. Or he might check in with you daily to ask if X is done yet, or you could use an app to communicate these things. Whatever you agree to. And him acknowledging your behaviors and whether they did or didn't match up with the rules, and responding appropriately with a praise or consequence, would be how he makes you feel watched over and held accountable.

To feel child-like and carefree:

Maybe he would tell you to take a bath instead of a shower, or remind you to do things that you don't really need reminding of, like brushing your teeth, or praising you in a really dramatic way for "small' acts.

Of course, these are all just really basic ideas, and you'll want to customize them to your preferences and desires. I'd recommend making it clear that when you share ideas with him, that they are just ideas you like, but that you aren't trying to tell him exactly what to do. Let him know you'd like him to find his own ideas, based on his own desires and just creativity. Ideally, together you can find ways to get you both to feel how you both want to feel, using behaviors or interactions that you both like. Of course, this requires a lot of communication to ensure consent and mutual interest. So don't feel like something is 'wrong' if this takes 10 conversations instead of just being a single conversation and then starting the dynamic the next day. Also even once you do get going, be sure to communicate regularly about how things are feeling and edit as you go. Okay, a sharp swerve into seriousness: this kind of advice is definitely beyond my personal experience as a cis man (albeit one with many non-cis friends). However, on general principles and based on my knowledge of kink, I think I can offer this:

What you're asking is the wrong question. It's very tempting to add up all your faults and complexities and ask yourself "who's looking for this?" - but people don't fall in love with bundles of abstract attributes, and they also don't add up complexities until hitting some threshold and going "nah, this is too confusing, I'm out".

You find someone who likes you as a person - your sense of humor, your taste in books, the way you smile - and who you like in return, and then you try to make it work. Sometimes it doesn't, due to circumstances or communication problems or personality conflicts or any number of other things. But sometimes it does. And when someone cares about you as a person, they're willing to learn your nuances and contradictions, because they're part of someone who they could come to love.

And as to your situation specifically:

I'm biased by my experience with disproportionately queer friend groups in a liberal city in the US - so YMMV a lot based on local demographics - but "AFAB genderqueer feminist sub" doesn't seem unusual to me in the slightest, or something that would be a barrier to finding partners! Also, in my experience, people into real-life kink are disproportionately liberal (and nerdy - if you're trying to locate people who are into BDSM without going to a munch, find a D&D group), so the feminism part really shouldn't be a problem.

Gender play specifically requires an understanding partner, but with mutual trust and a bit of explanation, I don't think it's all that taboo or hard to understand - not more than e.g. a feminist woman wanting to be treated like property in the bedroom.
