Augusnippets Day 12: Lost / Trapped / Avalanche
CW: Environmental whump (caught in avalanche), uncertain ending
The snow flooded downwards all too quickly—then hit them.
They were drowning in white. They didn’t know which way was up.
The cold was pervasive, but the pressure was worse. Crushing, pressing from many directions at once, the force of it surrounding them.
They were tossed around in movements impossible to keep track of, swept along in a chaotic rush like a flimsy leaf in a violent river.
Their sight dimmed as snow piled up over and around them and blocked out most of the sunlight. The pressure felt all-encompassing.
The snow that once seemed soft and beautiful was now dangerous, possibly deadly. They prayed rescue would come quickly.

A Thing
Some jealous oblivious idiots For @jilytoberfest Day 11, prompt 🎶“Uncovering feelings unfound”🎶 - Out of the Blue by Katie Pruitt
AO3 Link Here
“So there would be no hard feelings if I went after Potter right?”
Lily offered her best smile to Sierra Marrow. “Why would there be?”
“I mean it's no secret you two have some sort of thing going on—“
“I don’t know what you mean by that.” Lily’s brow furrowed. She actually didn’t, if anything there was a distinct lack of thing going on between her and James. Ever since the end of fifth year he had stopped trailing her like a little puppy and this year…. well…
If she was going to be honest, this year was going brilliant. Her and James had started somewhat of a rapport, fueled by a mutual annoyance for the current standing head boy and the fact that both had the same study period in the library. It was actually good, great even to be able to talk to him in a capacity other than telling him off, finding herself laughing more and more often at his jokes and getting invested in his pranks.
But it wasn’t a thing. At least, not in the definition Sierra was referring to.
“Don’t worry—you should go for it. He’d be mental to say no.”
She had meant at least half of it. He would be mental to say no—-Sierra was one of the most sought after dates in the school, able to snag a new boyfriend seconds after dropping the last. It was no secret that Potter also happened to be one of the most eligible catches roaming the halls, their coupling would be the gossip of the year.
Lily passed a glance to the other side of the room. James sat leaning back, mid laugh at whatever boisterous conversation was going on between him and his mates. His tie was loose and hanging off to the side, shirt undone two buttons more than dress code allowed. Turning to the side, he caught her stare and offered a coy wave.
She felt thankful that Sierra’s back was turned to him, otherwise she would easily understand why a blush was beginning to form on her cheeks. Idiot.
Sierra flashed her a grin, flipping her blonde hair over her shoulder. “Thanks girl—sorry to make it weird!”
She tried to direct her gaze back at her, but James hadn’t turned away. His eyes flicked between her and Sierra, eyebrows raised in question. Responding with a furrowed brow, James just smirked, and she swore his eyes twinkled. She pried herself back to the conversation.
“Not weird at all.”
********
“What do you think Black does to get all this firewhiskey into the school? Reckon he shags Mme. Rosmerta—-“ Marlene handed Lily a cup full of caramel colored liquid, and she let it burn a path down her throat.
“Probably something we don’t want to know.” She felt bad that she wasn’t giving Marlene her full attention, but the party had suddenly become much more of a drag than she had imagined.
She knew even an idiot could tell she was staring, but the firewhiskey kept her shame at bay. Across the room Sierra sat against the back of a loveseat, giggling as James recounted something with various animated gestures. She was laying it on thick, tilting her head and pouting whenever James turned to talk to a passerby, batting her eyelashes when he continued their conversation, licking her lips after each sip of a drink. At a certain point, she reached out and fingered the front of his quidditch jersey, no doubt coming up with some silly reason to justify it. James did nothing, continuing on like it was the most normal action in the world.
Lily felt her stomach bottom out. She wanted to look away, urged herself with all her power to do so, yet couldn’t. The feeling of firewhiskey was starting to resemble the burn of bile in her throat. It was bad enough watching Sierra flirt with any bloke, but for it to be James and for him to entertain it?
The familiar sense of being watched pulled her from her torment. James looked past Sierra for a moment, catching her eye and giving a soft smile. Somehow it made everything worse.
He leaned down to say something to her, starting to take a step back to depart, but Sierra made a stronger grip on his jersey, lips pouting to astronomical levels. He tried again, reaching for her hands to release him, but she swooped in, planting a kiss squarely on his jaw.
Lily’s body reacted on its own, trudging out the portrait hole before the tears even began to fall. Outside in the darkness of the corridor, she clambored towards the nearest turret, not even bothering to light her path.
She knew she was acting like a child, but she couldn’t help it. She sat on the stoop of the turret and pulled her knees to her chest, allowing her sobs to be muffled by her own embrace. She was being silly—she had said yes to allowing Sierra to act that way. She had said there wasn’t anything between them.
But of course there was. Why else was she crying in the bloody corridor?
There was a scuffle of feet, and she half expected to look up and see James and Sierra coming to further her misery. Instead, two black boots planted themselves at her side.
“Bad night?” Sirius bent down, sitting shoulder to shoulder with her.
She made a noise between a scoff and a laugh, but he waited for a response.
“You don’t have to stay here, Black. I’m just—-“
What was she doing? Feeling sorry for herself? Wasting tears on a prat who didn’t fancy her anymore? A healthy mixture of both?
Sirius pulled his jacket off and wrapped it around her shoulders. She tried to wipe her face, but tears replenished themselves on her cheeks with every swipe.
“This would all be over if you told him.” It was the softest she had ever heard his voice before.
“I don’t know what you are talking about. We are just mates.” The break in her voice rendered her words unconvincing.
“Yeah, ok Evans. Because this is complete mate-like behavior.”
Sirius stood back up, stretching his arms over his head. Despite telling him he could leave, she really wished he would sit with her a bit longer.
“Well—“ Sirius began, starting to back step his way out of the turret. “Not that mates would need the information—but if you had stayed a little longer you would have seen James tell off Marrow.”
Lily’s head snapped up. Maybe the firewhiskey was finally settling, but she was feeling a lot warmer.Sirius smirked as he backed away.
“Again—not like mates should be interested.”

First Date
Summary: Blind dates can be a good or bad surprise. Warnings: none, entirely fluff maybe a smidge suggestive. Female reader x Kid, Killer is here for reasons. Minors DNI ever. Prompt inspired by these two images from Twt.
You were nervous, it’d been a while since you’d gone on a date. A friend set you up with someone who was a little outside your normal dating pool but you were willing to take a chance to meet up. At the very least, to see how cute they were.
When your date walked in you could hardly believe your eyes. You knew who he was. Loose acquaintances sure but you’d crossed paths enough times to know each other on a first name basis. Didn’t you have his number already?
While he spoke to the hostess, you quickly scrolled your phone screen and to your surprise, you don’t have his number. Odd. You were sure you had exchanged numbers before at one party or another.
Kid began walking towards your table, he gave a short hand wave to acknowledge you from the distance. Behind his colossal figure, you could see a blond man with a face mask trailing slowly behind him. He seemed familiar too.
Standing up to greet him, Kid made you feel so small in comparison as he bent at the waist and leaned his torso down, placing an arm around your shoulder in an awkward but friendly hug. He waited for you to sit before he took his own seat.
You’d lost sight of the blonde but you realized he had taken a seat at the table in front of yours – you just didn’t notice him because of Kid’s frame. Large, hunky, frame.
“I meant to call you m’self to set this up but I didn’t have your number like I thought I did. Nami was being a pain in the ass, trying to extort me for your number. Robin was decent enough to pass the message along.”
“She kept it vague, was that intentional?” you asked shyly.
“Not really,” Kid grinned that damn sexy knee-buckling grin of his. “I told her if she felt obligated to warn you, that was her prerogative.”
“Well she didn’t have anything negative to say,” you chuckle, “All she said was, ‘a friend of a friend wants to take you out, he’s a bit scruffy but mostly harmless. Easy on the eyes too’.”
“Haah, I s’ppose no news is good news,” he chuffed. “I’m going to be blunt, Y/N…”
You watched as he straightened himself, locking his amber eyes to yours in an almost hypnotizing stare. You felt like a rabbit, snared. A doe caught in headlights.
“I just want to say I have a crush on you, bad. Been feeling this for months now and I think it’s time I told you about my feelings, for real.”
“Oh,” your mouth popped open in shock. “Wait, who’s the other guy?”
“Oh Killer? He’s here for moral support.”
Your brows furrow, “Heh are you being for real right now?”
Kid nodded and tilted his head to the side so you could see his blond companion.
“I’m here for you, Kid. Do your thing.”
Kid’s face came back in sight as he sat up, “He’s my ride until I finish fixing my motorcycle.”
“Ah, I see. I feel like I remember you telling me you did repairs or something?”
Kid’s eyes widened in excitement, “Yeah, I do.” He seemed to relax in his seat, never taking his eyes off you. “Me and a few guys own a shop where we fix things up. Good business and keeps me busy. Lately been finding myself unable to focus on things for too long.”
“How come? Feeling stressed?” you wrung your hands under the table, your gut bubbling with anticipation.
“Naahh not stress. Keep thinking about this pretty girl I don’t see enough of and needed to do something about it.”
A blush crept on your cheeks at his statement, “You said it’s been months, may I ask why it took so long?”
It was Kid’s turn to blush, not answering right away and scratching the back of his head as he considered how to answer. He didn’t need to—
“He’s shy,” Killer coughed out loud. That made Kid turn and glare at him. “What? It’s true.”
Letting out a quiet giggle, “Well now is better than never. I could have sworn we got each other’s numbers at Vivi’s birthday party.”
Somehow Kid turned redder, “Me too. I uhh, tend to not save names a lot of the time.”
“Is that why you never called?” you couldn’t help laughing, “Can I see your contact list?”
Kid handed you his phone, mumbling an embarrassed apology. You scrolled through the numbers and names, amused at the amount of legitimate names that were saved compared to unlisted numbers or nicknames.
One entry caught your attention and you clicked to expand the details. Lo’ and behold – it was your number.
“You did have it, see?” you handed it back to him.
“Ah shit, you’re ‘Mouse?!’ Why the hell did I save it as that?”
You’re memories went back to the night of Vivi’s party – a bonfire at the beach. It had been one of those parties that lasted all day. You had worn a bikini that had a tied ribbon with long strings trialing loosely, tickling your thighs.
While you engaged with party goers you snacked and drank, but it wasn’t until you were hanging out with Kid that you were eating cheese and crackers.
‘Heh, you look pretty cute,’ he tipped his half full cup at you. ‘I ever tell you that?’
‘Nope, not once,’ you stuck your tongue out at him.
‘That ain’t right. Here, gimme your number,’ he handed you his phone. ‘That way I can tell you more often.’
Giggling you took it and punched in your number, leaving the contact details open so he could save it. His eyes were trailing up and down your body, only returning his attention to you as he took his phone back.
‘Hmm,’ he hummed, ‘Ya kinda look like a mouse,’ he started laughing. ‘With your cheese and your tail.’
You whined and moaned about the swim suit as you fixed the strings once more but it was for naught. Kid ducked down and grabbed the string, twirling it in the air and partly dragging you to his friend group.
“Ohhhhh right!!” Kid smacked his forehead lightly, tufts of hair fell over his headband. You felt the strongest urge to reach over and wrap it around your finger.
“You ripped the seam on that suit!”
“I’d be more than happy to buy you several more,” he gave you a toothy grin. “That is, if you’re feeling me too and want to go out.”
“I was going to say yes regardless but I love a good bribe!”
The two of you became so engrossed in conversation that neither of you noticed Killer had left his table. Silently, he walked to the waiter and left enough to cover your date with Kid. He glanced over at the two of you once last time before exiting the casual restaurant.
Tugging out a pair of riding gloves from his jacket, Killer unloaded his motorcycle from the bed of his truck; that he’d lent the keys to Kid. With a hum, Killer snapped back the kickstand and rode off into the night.
“Don’t fuck it up, gearhead.”

Annoying. That’s what Y/n thought of all the pirate crews that came through the port town she lived in. All of them had nothing to provide for the town. They just stocked up on their supplies and drank the town’s alcohol. Not to mention their disrespect towards the workers.
“Another round!” Someone yelled to the bar.
“Your table,” Y/n told her coworker as she filled the cups for them.
With a roll of the eyes, her coworker grabbed the drinks and walked over to the table of drunk pirates. Just as another group walked in, they weren’t as bad, but they were still a pirate crew. Ones that were often in the town for whatever reason.
The two crews made eye contact as the Stray Kids approached the bar. Y/n continued her work, cleaning up and preparing drinks, not daring to converse with any pirate any time soon. Especially Changbin.
No one knew what it was that had to two in a weird disinterest with each other. They weren’t enemies per se, but they didn’t get along. Or used to. Nowadays they were on more friendly terms but not everyone was up to date on that. Y/n still didn’t go out of her way to talk to him. Just set the eight drinks on the bar in front of the pirates and moved on. Having other things around the bar to do.
One of her least favorite things about the bar was the drunks at the end of the night. As much as she hated Changbin, she was a bit grateful he stayed around and walked her home.
“You don’t have to walk me home. Scaring away drunks is enough,” Y/n told him.
“And never see my favorite bartender again?” Changbin sneered
“Don’t tempt me. Never seeing you again seems like a pleasure.”
“You would miss me.”
“Whatever helps you sleep at night.” Y/n scoffed and picked up her pace a bit.
“If I bothered you so much, you would have ignored me. Instead, you lean into them.”
“I know what you’re trying to do and it’s not going to work,” Y/n told him
“And what am I doing?”
Y/n turned to him, stopping them both. “I'm not blind to your flirting. Or were your crewmates teasing you when you offered to walk me home. Every time. It’s not worth it…”
“What isn’t?”
“Whatever you're hoping for. You’re a pirate, Changbin. You’re either gone or wanted by the government.” Y/n turned away and started her walk again.
“Hey,” Changbin said, grabbing her arm and stopping her in her tracks. “What makes you think I wouldn’t try? We come back here so often because I want to see you. You just hate me so this is all I get.”
“If I don’t hate you then I get my hopes up. And I don’t want that.”
Y/n pulled away from him and tried turning back to continue her path. “If you turn your back on me again, you better be bending over.”
The phrase caught her attention. She looked at the pirate and his expression made all the feelings she hated acknowledging come out. She grabbed the pirate's hand and practically pulled him the rest of the way to her home. Changbin didn’t question anything, even as she practically pounced on him the second her door closed. Or when he carried her into her bedroom and pinned her down on the bed.
“Not exactly bending over,” Y/n joked
“I sure will get to that. Don’t worry,” Changbin told her as they pulled off their clothes. Needing to get the barriers away from them.
Y/n gasped as she felt his fingers prodding her entrance then pushed in. Her head tilted back giving him access to her neck to mark as his. His fingers worked her open as hers tangled in his hair.
“Bin,” Y/n moaned
“Nicknames now?” Changbin teased
“Shut up and fuck me. Need it.”
“You sure, doll?”
“Please.”
Changbin smiled and sat up. He pulled his fingers out of her and flipped her onto her stomach. Y/n made a small noise as Changbin grabbed her ass and spread her open for him. He grabbed his cock and gently pushed his tip in. Easing his way into her.
“Fuck,” Y/n moaned
“Alright pretty?” Changbin asked, leaning down and kissing her shoulder
“Big…”
“Yeah? Am I too big for your pretty little pussy?”
Y/n moaned as she gripped her sheets. Changbin moved slowly into her, getting one hand under her and using two fingers to roll her clit around. Listening to her moan into the mattress. Playing with the bundle of nerves as she got used to him.
“Bin,”
“Whatcha need?”
“Close.”
“Needed that pretty clit played with?”
Y/n nodded as she bucked her hips into his hand. Changbin moaned as she clenched around him. It was hard for him not to start fucking into her but he was on a mission now to get her to cum before he could. He was proud when he did. Her cum coated his dick as she rode out her high.
The second she had come down, he started thrusting inside her. Y/n moaned as he found his pace. Grabbing her hands and intertwining their fingers. He leaned down and kissed along her shoulders and spine. “Thought about this for too long. Especially on the longer voyages. Got me through those nights.”
He groaned as she clenched around him. still sensitive from her first orgasm he just brought her too. Now he almost has her on the edge of her second. His front pressed up against her back as he rutted into her.
Y/n clenched around him with each thrust till it was too much for her all over again. Her second high hit her before she could process it.
Changbin held her as she shook under him. He buried his face in her neck as he helped her through her high before his was on the edge. He stood straight and had just managed to pull out in time. He watched as his cum shot into her labia and ass. His hands ran down her sides and held her hips. His cock came to lay on her back end after he came down from his high.
“You’re still irritating,” Y/n breathed out after a moment.
“Huh. Maybe we should do round two to change your mind?”

scorch marks | ch 3
Wednesday Addams x Reader
Series Summary: Wednesday has been careful to keep what you two have behind closed doors and far away from labels; but when someone starts to take it — take you — away from her, she realizes how much she cares.
A/N: I'm not sure if I'm completely happy with how this turned out, but that's my life nowadays. And I wanted to post this for you guys before I leave for my little trip for new years, so I hope you enjoy it. Also, I think I ended up writing this one exclusively from Wednesday's pov lol. <3
Masterlist | Read ch 2 here
Human emotions were a strange, bothersome thing. Love could make you kill just as much as anger; ambition could make you get down on one knee to pledge your devotion to someone just as much as love.
They can get in the way of a clear mind, making you say or do something that would come back to torture you later.
That was probably their most devious power. And they lead to feelings; that are messy and unstable.
Wednesday prided herself on having control over them, not the other way around. Or at least she did. Because recently she has been victim to so many, that she didn't have the stomach to keep count.
She remembers the coldness of the rain against her skin as she walked away from Weathervane — away from you — it was pleasant and comforting; a safe blanket as the droplets trickled down her forehead all the way to her chin and hid the few stray tears that escaped her.
Her steps had been fast in desperation to get away. Her throat closed so tightly that she thought having someone choking her would be more bearable. Her heart beating so painfully, that maybe a bullet would've been more merciful.
She walked, and walked, and walked; her feet carrying her to school without realizing it. She was soaked when she stepped into her dorm, making puddles of water with each step she took. She remembers Enid talking, but the words were blurred.
Wednesday had made a beeline to the shower, turning it on with a temperature colder than the rain she had just escaped from.
Some say the second time around is more bearable. This certainly wasn't the case for her.
It was the day Wednesday put an end to whatever was happening between you and her. The day where she hated the most that she was forced to feel her own emotions.
The week that followed wasn't an improvement either.
Your words kept replaying in Wednesday's mind like a broken record; this is not a date, and please can we talk?
What would you have said, had she cared to listen?
Wednesday sat in front of her typewriter every day, staring at the blank paper and being unable to fill it. She'd hit a stump, because maybe she'd never know what you would have said.
You passed by each other in Nevermore's hallways as if you were just two strangers in the street, never to cross paths again. When you stood on one side of the bee keeper's shed, Wednesday stayed in the far opposite one, and if she so much as tried coming closer, you'd drop whatever it was you were doing and walk away. Even if Enid asked, you didn't come to her dorm anymore, prompting the werewolf to ask questions even though she could guess the answer.
Wednesday didn't know it was possible to miss someone this much. She caught herself tracing the lines of her own palm in a motion that was yours to make, brushing the corner of her lips in the place that was yours to kiss. And as much as she hated this feeling with all her might, hated you for forcing it into her, she couldn't chase it away.
It was so sadistically ironic that Wednesday kept you at arm's length in order to avoid attachment and loss, and that's exactly what she got. Maybe this is what Goody was trying to warn her about, that no matter the road she takes, the end will always be the same.
—
Today was a friday, ten days and four hours since the last time Wednesday spoke with you, since she replicated a damn drama cliche with her pitiful walk in the rain. Not that she was keeping count.
She sat at one of the tables on the quad, Enid at her side talking about something she wasn't listening to. The day was gray, morbidly so as the clouds loomed above, dark and cold in a way that Wednesday would've loved if it wasn't for you.
You who sat at the other end of the quad, putting as many tables and obnoxiously loud students between you and Wednesday as you could. You who looked so undeniably beautiful under the shadows. You who was smiling, happy as you laughed with your friends and spared no glances into the crowd to look for anyone.
Were you happier without her?
Wednesday sucked in a sharp breath at the mere thought of it, her lower lip quivering slightly as she exhaled, before she averted her eyes from you with a blink.
She turned to Enid only to find the girl's bright eyes already on her, a knowing smirk on her pink lips; "I won't even ask if you were listening."
"I got bored after the word shopping," Wednesday stated, raising an eyebrow that got Enid rolling her eyes.
"And because you were stalking our resident pretty girl," Enid teased, bumping Wednesday's shoulder with hers.
It was a truth that Wednesday countered with a lie; "I only stalk people who are hiding something or who have something I want, she doesn't fit on any of those."
Enid slumped on her seat, resting her head on her hands as she looked at Wednesday, "you can't keep doing this, Wednesday."
"Doing what?"
"Pretending like you don't care," Enid says then, with the frustration of someone who's just seen their favorite couple from a tv show hit another almost.
"Why would you assume the opposite?" Wednesday asks irritatedly.
Enid gives her best friend a look that could only be read as seriously? before she sits up straighter; "you two went from hanging out in the dorm for hours and sneaking out when you think no one's watching, to staying on different sides of the school and avoiding each other like the plague. Even you have to feel that change."
But I don't want to; Wednesday thinks to herself. Her only response is to look away.
With a sigh, Enid softens; "why won't you just tell her the truth?" She asks gently. The werewolf doesn't know the full story, and when her roommate ignores her questions and neither you nor Yoko will talk, gossip can only do so much; but even a blind person can see that whatever happened, hurt both of you.
Wednesday frowns; "what truth?"
"That you have feelings for her, silly. Like, genuinely more than friends feelings." There's an excited smile on Enid's lips as she says it, eyes glinting with the prospect of a love story.
"That's a horrible idea," Wednesday's face does something complicated, as if she's sorting on how to feel about this — or tasted something sour. "Besides, you know what happened the last time I did something remotely close to that."
And just like that, the muddy waters start to clear, the fog starts to dissipate and Enid understands what is happening — if just a little better.
The blonde reaches out a hand to Wednesday's forearm, squeezing softly; "Wednesday, this is Y/N we're talking about, she's not gonna turn into a murderous monster and break your heart."
Wednesday visibly gulps, her jaw painfully clenched as she felt uncharacteristically small under Enid's gaze.
"Plus I thought you'd be into the whole potential heartbreak thing." Enid teases, fighting back a grin, to which Wednesday can only mumble back;
"Not nearly as fun as I thought it'd be."
Switching her gaze between you and the raven-haired girl by her side, Enid hums; "want my advice?"
"No."
"I'd take my chances if I were you, because I know she genuinely cares about you. A lot."
There was something about the way Wednesday dropped her shoulders slightly, about the way she stole another glance at you as if you had just bought a one-way ticket to another country. It was that bittersweet feeling of a good thing that came to its end way too early.
Enid felt like crying.
"I'm afraid I'm too late, Enid."
—
It wasn't until dinner time — and after much, much insistence from Enid — that Wednesday decided to try and mend her mistake.
The cafeteria was already filled with students when she arrived, in true Nevermore fashion, the place was big and ancient; a meticulously decorated stone-walled room with tables and a kitchen area. Werewolves, Enid's brothers probably, were making a scene near the kitchen; there were gorgons and sirens playing a card game on one of the tables; and you sat with the vampires, with Yoko by your side no less.
Wednesday felt curious eyes on her, undoubtedly her peers wondering why she'd been staring unmoving for so long. A deep breath passed through her lips as she begrudgingly swallowed her pride and took the first step, her boots thudding against the stone floor.
With each of her steps, she repeated the words in her head; can we talk? Do you still wish to talk? Or would it be better, I need to talk with you?
Wednesday decides that fighting a murderous monster would be infinitely easier.
Your eyes locked in on her figure before she even reached you, and Wednesday smiled, a tiny tilt of lips that only you would notice; but you looked away from her before it happened.
Did people care about each other only because they enjoyed the pain that comes with it?
Something akin to panic fluttered inside Wednesday's stomach when you got up from your seat, reaching for your backpack and muttering a few goodbyes to your friends as you walked between the tables. The Addams girl quickened her steps, almost bumping into Bianca and not bothering to turn around when the siren called her out on it.
Wednesday just about managed to stop in front of you before you left for the doors.
Is this what you felt on that day?
Your eyes closed with a sigh, your hands were buried deep in your pockets and there was a rigidness to your shoulders. You were nervous, and even if it wasn't the right time, Wednesday was proud of herself for knowing it.
But having you this close again after so long — not really, ten days aren't that long, yet Wednesday hates that it felt like ages — has its downsides.
Wednesday couldn't speak. The only thing she needed to do, and her words are stuck. Feelings are a pain in the ass to deal with.
Yoko stood by your side, arms crossed over her chest; "do you have anything to say or what?"
She's protective, Wednesday doesn't blame her for it anymore.
Yes, she should say. There's a glint of hope in your eyes when you look at her; Wednesday finds herself wanting to reach out, but she's not sure she's allowed to anymore. She wonders if you missed her as much as she misses you.
"No," is what she says, and it's quite painful.
—
It's well into the night when Wednesday makes her way back to her dorm, the stairs creaking under her boots, a half-moon shining high on the sky being the only source of light.
her insides are twisting with a mix of rage, frustration, self-pity, and something else that's just heavy.
She pushed open the door to her dorm only to find it empty. Enid's bed is unmade and Wednesday's typewriter still has a blank page on it.
Enid had texted Wednesday earlier, something about going out with Ajax and not coming back too soon. The solitude was well appreciated, it gave the Addams girl some much-needed peace to work on her novel. The only problem is that her mind was nowhere near peaceful.
The first thing that caught Wednesday's attention after she walked in was the potted cactus by her window, it looked a little sad, its soil all dry and the color not as green as it should be. Wednesday didn't think twice as she walked to her bathroom, filling a cup with water and gently emptying it into the plant's pot. At least of that part of you, she'd take good care of.
She took off her hoodie next, throwing it on top of her bed. It was pathetic that the simple action got her thinking of you too, of when you'd lounge on there talking nonsense with Thing while she wrote.
How could one person hold so much power over another was beyond Wednesday, especially because she didn't allow it; it just happened. It happened that she kissed you out of impulse, just because she couldn't die without knowing what your lips felt like; or that she kept calling on you more and more after that, feeling a hole in her chest whenever you were away for too long.
It just happened that she fell for you, and maybe it was inevitable, maybe you'd be her doom. But it was her choice to push you away, and she'd be lying if she said it wasn't the one thing she regretted the most.
There was a knock on Wednesday's door that snapped her mind back to reality. She turned around, frowning as she stared at the dark wooden thing, wondering who would seek her out this late in the night.
Honestly? Wednesday should've seen it coming as soon as Enid suggested she should talk with you. She should've known.
She swung open the door only to reveal you on the other side, in plaid pajama pants and a white shirt, hugging yourself because of the coldness of the empty hallways.
Your posture went rigid as soon as your eyes found Wednesday's, it got her wondering if you forgot this was her dorm, if you knocked on the wrong door by accident.
"Hello," Wednesday said as she looked at you, features impassive, her hand tightening around the door handle until her knuckles turned white.
You ran your tongue over your bottom lip before you spoke; "Enid texted me, said you needed help with something. That it was an emergency," you gulped, diving into over-explanation, "and that she wasn't here, so she asked if I could…" You trailed off, your fingers nervously tapping your arm.
Oh. Maybe her roommate wasn't too far off when she said you cared. It was rare the times where anyone would be able to easily read Wednesday's emotions. This was one of them and it wasn't a surprise that you were the cause.
There was a glint to Wednesday's eyes that belonged to you, her features softened in a blink — no more creases to her eyebrows and lips parting in vain when her words got tangled on her tongue — it was the calmness after a raging storm.
Wednesday used to mock the people who spoke about soulmates, about the invisible red string that few ones were lucky enough to find the other end of. But could there ever be any other explanation for the way you set her at ease?
She nodded once, stepping aside so you could walk in.
You were hesitant in the way you did so, as if you didn't belong, and Wednesday hated it — because you did belong, right here by her side. You stood in the middle of her dorm, right between the division of colors to blankness on the round window.
The air felt electric around you. Wednesday chanced a step closer, her gaze casting over every twitch of your expressions; "I do," she started, and a beat passed as she refused to take the last chance to back down and let you go, "I do have something to say."
You scoffed, "that doesn't sound like an emergency," but there was no bite to your tone, almost as if you wanted her to object.
"It is," Wednesday told you, allowing the affection she held for you to drip from every syllable. One more chance, that's all she needed, and maybe she’d tell you just what it is that you do to her.
"Okay."
You had a kindness to you that she was underserving of, Wednesday thought. But maybe she could work her way to it. She raised her chin, striving to keep her heartbeat in check; "I wasn't completely fair last time we spoke, I'll measure my words better if you're willing to talk to me again."
Wednesday said the words as if they were the particularities of a contract, and not an apology to someone who held her cold heart in their hands. She realized it was the wrong thing to say as soon as your features fell.
You took on the glow of the moon effortlessly as it came through the window, it framed the lines of your jaw and cheekbone, all delicate and pretty. You ducked your head, allowing your hair to partially cover your eyes as you nodded a few times. "Great," you mumbled, before taking a few quick steps with intent to go around Wednesday and back to the lonely hallways.
She didn't let you, her cold hand closed around your own as you made to walk past her, keeping you in place in a gesture that surprised both of you.
Having your skin against hers again made Wednesday feel like coming home after a long journey. It's strange that that's what you became to her.
The hold she had on you wasn't strong, you could easily pull your hand away and leave. But you didn't.
"It was unfair of me," Wednesday started, each word tighter than the next as she forced them out. More than anything, Wednesday despised talking about her feelings, but words are all she has now, "the mistake was mine and I will accept the consequences for it. But you should have all cards on the table when making your judgment."
If there was a heaven, you already had your place on it — you turned back around to face Wednesday properly, and without letting go of her hand, you adjusted your hold so that your fingers could intertwine; your thumb tracing random patterns on her skin in a motion that you knew calmed her down. Because you knew how hard this was for her — Wednesday was sure you were an angel in your past life.
The dorm room had never felt this detached from the outside world, as it does now, holding this one moment for you and Wednesday alone.
For a split second, where she allowed herself the luxury of only existing in your presence, Wednesday wondered if this is what real love felt like. She took in a deep breath, feeling your perfume as she did so before focusing her gaze on your joined hands; they fit well together.
"I used to ask myself why I was the one who kissed you first that day." Wednesday hesitated, nagging on the inside of her cheek with her teeth, "and I realized that it's because you make me feel something I never- hardly ever feel when around other people."
Her eyes glanced up at you in a lazy motion, only to find that your eyes never left her once. There was a soft smile on your lips, overflowing adoration. Wednesday was sometimes envious of the way you wore your heart on your sleeve so effortlessly.
"It's an annoying feeling really," the raven-haired girl admitted, raising an eyebrow at you, "I wanted to rip it away from me the first time it happened." Her lips hovered open as she heard her own heartbeat, thunderous as ever, "but the one that came in your absence was much worse."
The passage of time felt equally too slow and too fast. You weren't doing anything. Did she do something wrong?
Wednesday tensed when, carefully, you raised a hand to her face. You were tender in the way that you pushed the black strands of hair behind Wednesday's ear, your fingertips lingering and tracing her cheek before you dropped your hand. As if you'd missed touching her too.
And oh you did, if Wednesday knew just how much, she'd probably be all over you already. "I feel it too," you whispered, a secret confession only for her to hear.
"I know we never talked about what we were, and I'm not asking you to," you spoke calmly, "but you really hurt me, Wednesday, at the very least I thought we were friends."
What if I'd like us to be more? What would you say, is that something you'd ever want too?
Before Wednesday could ask any of the questions she was dying to know the answer to, you asked yours first;
"Did you mean that? What you said?"
And the Addams girl figured that this was a more pressing matter anyway.
Wednesday shook her head with urgency, her hand squeezing yours to keep you in place, "it could never be true." She took a step closer, her boots bumping your sneakers, "hurting you, it's the last thing I'd ever want to do, and I apologize that it happened."
The raw honesty of Wednesday's tone was all you needed to hear to let go of her hand in order to cup her cheeks, pulling her into a kiss that spoke more than any of you ever could.
Wednesday grasped onto your waist almost desperately, her hands bunching up your shirt as she glued your body to hers in a nearly bruising grip, dying to feel the most of you that she could manage. She pressed herself into you, her nose brushing your cheek as her soft lips molded with yours; telling you she'd never miss anyone as much as she misses you, that she'd never feel so strongly for someone as she does for you; that she'd have you until death's cold embrace took her.
Your hands traveled from her jaw to the back of her neck, fingers mingling with the wisps of hair there. You pressed your lips to each corner of her mouth, bumping your noses as you did so, leaving testimonies of your affection each time your upper lip grazed hers; letting her know that she'd ruined anyone else to you, that you'd never feel for someone else, what you feel for her.
Wednesday pulled back just enough to be able to breathe, her forehead brushing yours as you felt more than heard the shape of her words; "let me make it up to you… Please."
You chuckled, tracing the outline of her lower lip with your thumb. It was reddish and just a little swollen, warm to the touch and it was your fault.
It got you smiling, because you could also feel her own smile under your digit; "gladly."

You Think I Wanted This? Dain Aetos x Reader
Prompt - “You think I of all people wanted to fall in love with you?” by @fw-gt
A/N: For a prompt for a character I never thought I would write, I am honestly really happy with this. So I hope all you Dain girls like this. Pre Warning though, there is no happy ending. This is just Dain angst. So enjoy if thats you thing? As always requests are open if you want to suggest anything.
Masterlist
It was so hard to keep my focus on Devera and Markham who were talking about one of the current issues on our borders. I could feel his eyes on me and the bruise and cut on my eye. My squad had come back from our RSC interrogation training late last night. We had been told to let our injuries heal naturally if they weren’t life threatening. So here I sat in battle brief, with my squad, with very visible and notable injuries.
Most of the other riders had ignored it after our arrival back at formation this morning. But not him. I had felt his eyes on me as soon as I had taken my place in the rotunda. Had felt them in the corridors as our squads crossed paths. And I knew if I looked to my right I would meet the sandy brown eyes of Dain who sat a few seats away with his squad mates. His squad had yet to be taken for interrogation training. But we had seen enough come and go to know what it entailed. Knew from the injuries the other second years had returned with what awaited us. And yet I had felt his eyes on me all morning. I knew I wasn’t the only one. A few rows behind me I knew my closest friends were watching him as well. Probably wondering why Dain was watching me like a hawk.
Dain and I had become friends somehow. Somehow he trusted me unlike the other marked ones. All the others he kept his distance from. Somehow that one challenge had changed everything. The challenge where we had gone all out as it was one of the last of the year. We had ended up sending each other the healers quadrant, both being deemed a stay over night. We had also been the only cadets there. The joys of giving each other concussions and a mender not being available to heal us fully till the next day.
With only each other for company, we had begrudgingly talked to each other. We had then stayed up till the early hours of the morning talking till a healer had told us off and demanded we get rest before being mended in the morning. From there it had spiralled. Late night sparring sessions, catching each other in the library while we studied. Keeping our new found friendship secret. Mainly for Dain’s sake than mine. I would definitely get a talking to from my friends, but Dain would have it far worse if his father found out he was friends with a marked one. A child of the rebellion.
But recently our friendship had changed. Something more teetering at the edges. Our library catch ups turned into study sessions in one of our rooms, our sparring sessions having a little extra tension when one of us managed to pin the other underneath us on the mat. I had started getting feelings for Dain. Very strong feelings for Dain. I would get jealous any time he doted after Violet, protecting her. But then my heart would do cartwheels whenever his eyes met mine. And my eyes would wander whenever I could see him during sparing and challenges. Admiring the way he handled himself, and honestly the view. Dain wasn’t as built with muscle as Xaden and Garrick were. But the amount he did have suited him perfectly.
I had fallen hard for Dain Aetos, as much as I had tried not to. I had fallen for someone that was considered my enemy. And I had to put a stop to it. Or at least get through the next year and a half where we would most likely get posted far away from each other and I would never see him again. Just another year and a half. In the distance the bell rings across the college, signalling the end of classes and the start of lunch. As I had been too out of it to unpack anything for the class I quickly grabbed my bag and rushed down the stairs. Away from Dain’s eyes. Very glad my spot in the room gave me a quicker escape than Dain who I had glimpsed fighting against the crowd to get to me.
I headed for my room, hoping Dain would head directly to the dining hall where most of the quadrant would go. Where I should be going seeing as I had slept through breakfast this morning. But clearly Dain knew me better than I thought. I had been so caught up in making it to my dorm room to change before challenges that I hadn’t heard the fast approaching steps. A yelp escaping my lips as a hand grabs my jacket sleeve and drags me behind a pillar. My eyes meeting the sandy brown eyes of Dain. His eyes are frantic as they take in my face properly. Focusing on the deep blues and purples around my eye, and the scar that extended from more fore head, narrowly missing my eye before ending halfway down my cheek.
”You should go see a healer.” He says as his eyes meet mine, his hand still grasping my jacket sleeve tightly.
”Not allowed to.” I say numbly as I cast my gaze away from his, feeling my cheeks starting to flush under his intense gaze.
I see his eyebrows furrow in annoyance, a slight tick in his jaw. “But you’re hurt. They can’t stop you. I’ll take you.” His hand releases my jacket as he goes to grab my hand.
I step backwards, his hand hanging in mid air where it went to grab mine. “I don’t need you to baby me like Violet. I’ll be fine.” I snap at him.
I hate myself as the words leave my mouth as he recoils. He had confided in me about his situation with Violet. From the kiss they had shared at Threshing, to the fights they’d had since she had arrived. He had confided in me about that, opened his heart to me and let me in. And I had just thrown it in his face. I knew he was just trying to help. But something in me had reared up at it. Telling me to shove it away. That I didn’t need his help. Didn’t need his pity. Didn’t want the help his name would bring if he took me over to the healers.
“I’m not trying to baby you. I know you’re different to Violet. But you’re hurt. You need healing.” He pleads to me as he steps towards me again.
”If I was out in the field I wouldn’t get healing. They’re just preparing us for when we leave.” I take a step back. I see the pain in his eyes as I step back, my words pushing him away. Maybe this was my way out. It pained me to do it, but I had to distance myself from him. Push the feelings I had away. I couldn’t be with someone like him. It would never work. Him the Colonels son, and me a marked one from the rebellion. A reminder of what happened. Our friendship would never leave this quadrant. “I don’t want your pity, and I don’t want healing the rest of my squad wont have available to them. I don’t want the privileges that come with your name.”
I go to push past him, my only avenue of escape. I had hoped my words would numb him. Stop any reaction he would have to me walking past him. But his hand reaches out and grasps my hand, spinning me around to him, his other hand cupping my cheek. His eyes go with with shock at the contact. I want to pull away, but its as if something is holding me there. Something willing me to not move. A connection. No. A presence? What was it. Whatever it is lets me go after a few seconds, Dain releasing his hold on me as he stumbles back. The shock still evident in his eyes. As if he has been told something he can’t quite believe.
”You love me.” He suddenly blurts out.
I stand there in shock as my own eyes go wide. How the hell did he know I had feelings for him? Wait. Did he say love? No. I just had strong feelings for him. Feelings I needed to get rid of. Feelings that shouldn’t exist. Feelings I was trying my best to get rid of by pushing him away. Feelings I had not told him about. But somehow he had know about them. Dain’s hand the had cupped my cheek still hovered in mid air as his eyes darted between it and me. Could Dain read my thoughts? It’s then I realise he has never told me his signet. That the patch on his uniform indicates classified. A mind reading signet that could only be activated by touch would definitely be one they would allow to stay. And one they would keep secret.
“No. No I don’t.” I tell him as I shake my head quickly.
”No you do. But you don’t want to.” He says with a sad tone to his voice as his eyes focus on me.
I swallow nervously as I stare back into his eyes. My suspicions confirmed. Dain could read thoughts at touch. And I had been practically screaming mine in my head as I had tried to push past him. I knew he hadn’t done it on purpose by the way he was reacting. But hard to ignore something when it is practically being yelled at you.
”You think I of all people wanted to fall in love with you? Gods I tried not to. I tried so hard.” I feel wetness on my cheek and realise I’ve started crying. “But I did. I fell so fucking hard for you it wasn’t funny. And I shouldn’t have. But here we are.”
”You make it sound like a bad thing.”
”Because it is Dain!” I yell, not caring who hears us now. “We shouldn’t even be friends. I should have ignored you that night in the healers quadrant. But I didn’t. I should have pushed you away when you sought me out after. But I didn’t. I didn’t because I didn’t want to push you away. But I should have. I should have ended this before I fell fucking fell for you.”
Dain just stares at me in shock. I swear I see some tears in his eyes as well. But unlike mine they dont stream down his face. He manages to keep his emotions in check.
”What if I fell for you to? What if I was dumb enough to fall for you to even though I knew I shouldn’t be?” He takes a step towards me.
I shake my head. “There is no what if, because even if you did Dain, nothing can come of it. This doesn’t end well for us in any scenario.”
He reaches out and takes my hand in his. He knows I will try to pull away as he links his fingers in mine and holds on tightly. “What if it did?” He asks softly, leaning down to rest his forehead on mine.
I close my eyes, not wanting to stare into his eyes that I know will have me succumbing to my emotions. I needed to push him away. I couldn’t let him in. I couldn’t go down this path. It only ended in heart break. It would not have a happy ending.
”We know it doesn’t Dain. Someone like you and someone like me don’t work together. We would constantly be hiding it. I don’t want that.” I say softly, still keeping my eyes closed.
I feel his breath across my face as he sighs. He knows I’m right. And I know he would constantly be torn between who he is, who his father is and me.
”We could just have this. Have us while we are here. Where we can hide it. Enjoy what time we have.” His voice pleads to me.
My breath comes out shaky. His grip on me tightening in response. “I can’t do that. I can’t do this knowing there’s an end date. I can’t Dain.”
I feel him nod. His movement causing mine to move with his. He knows I’m right. I open my eyes to see his sandy brown eyes already staring into mine. So much sadness in them. So much emotion in them. I know mine reflected the same. I wonder if he could sense my emotions with his signet, or if it was just past memories. Either way it didn’t matter. Everything was out in the open right now.
”Can I have one thing before you walk away? Before we go and pretend we don’t exist to each other any more?” He asks.
I nod at him, and in an instant his lips are on mine. I don’t even try to push him away. I let my emotions take over. Let my body do what I’ve wanted to do whenever he’s had me pinned underneath him on the training room mats. I grasp his jacket and pull him as close as I can as I deepen the kiss. His lips parting in response. His arms wrapping around me so tightly I don’t know where he ends and I start. The kiss is urgent and passionate, both of us knowing this will be the first and last time this happens. We pour all our emotions into it before shuffling feet has us breaking apart. No one could see us behind the pillar, but we couldn’t risk it. I can feel the tears threatening to flow again, so I push past Dain with ease this time as he lets me pass. Not daring to look back to see if he watches me go. But I know he does. I feel his eyes on my back like I had all day, but this time for a different reason.

L A D Y I N R E D
william rex x ava(oc) | prompt: day 18 - praise kink | tags: nsfw; minors - dni; established relationship; praise kink; oral sex (suitor receiving); teasing
”Lord Rex!” a tall, bespectacled man called out. “It’s been at least six weeks since I last saw you at one of these parties!”
“That’s because a certain sparrow has kept me quite occupied,” Will said under his breath to Ava, causing her to blush. “At least, maybe more,” Will replied to the tall man who was now approaching the couple.
“Not here, Will,” she scolded, removing his roving hand from her waist.
“I might have to steal you away later, then,” Will replied in a conspiratorial whisper.
“Byron, it's been too long,” Will greeted cordially, extending his hand in a polite greeting. “I heard your business has been booming.”
“Oh, yes it has, Lord Rex,” he replied excitedly, shaking Will’s hand. “We outgrew our old space and had to relocate to a larger one. And I had to hire three new employees to handle the extra clients. All thanks to your advice.”
“I’m always happy to see dreams pursued and fulfilled, And if I could help in any way with that, it’s my pleasure.”
“My apologies, Lord Rex, I didn’t realize you had a guest with you,” the gentleman said, finally noticing Ava. He gazed into her eyes, clearly taking an interest in her, and lifted his hat, bowing slightly. “Who is the lady in red by your side?”
“My name is Ava,” she responded with a small curtsey. She noticed he continued to stare at her, as if he was waiting for her to continue speaking. It took a moment for Ava to realize he was waiting for her to state her last name – the only problem was that she wanted absolutely nothing to do with the last name given to her at birth.
“Ava Rex.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, her stomach twisted in knots while poor Byron stood there utterly embarrassed that he was unaware of their relationship status. To make matters worse, Will found the situation funny.
“Lord Rex, Lady Rex, my deepest apologies. Congratulations to you both. I had no idea you had gotten married. Or that you were even engaged.”
“Funny, neither did I,” Will whispered in Ava’s ear. “Would you please excuse us,” Will said in a louder voice, “there’s someone who just arrived that I absolutely must bring my wife to meet.” Will tilted his head and glanced at Ava, his smile charming and alluring.
Byron nodded and waved, walking off quietly, still shocked. Will took Ava’s hand gently, his fingers lacing between hers. “Let’s go, my darling wife.”
Will quickly led Ava through the crowd, navigating a path where they avoided any potential conversations.
“Who are we meeting now?”
Will turned to look at her, the smile from his face earlier now gone. “Oh, we’re not meeting anyone. I wanted to have a moment alone with you.”
With Will being the bully that he was, Ava knew she was in trouble.
Once they got to the other side of the room, Will guided Ava down a secluded hallway and opened the door to an empty bedroom, quietly locking it behind them.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry, so sorry. I just said the first thing that came to my mind and now look at me, I’m a blubbering mess.”
“You’re not a blubbering mess.” He was smiling. His charming, alluring, adorable, sweet, precious smile.
“If you’re mad at me, you can yell at me. If you want.”
“I’m not mad,” Will said softly. “I’m thrilled..”
Ava stared at him in disbelief as he approached her. He took her hands in his and brought them to his lips, brushing a kiss on each fingertip. Closing his eyes, his breath was warm on her hands as he spoke.
“You took my name. You saw something you wanted and claimed it as yours. You freely sang your true desires.” He opened his eyes and gazed into hers; Ava had never seen him look at her with such tenderness before. “You haven’t looked this beautiful since the day when you confessed your true feelings to me.”
“Why would I yell at you?”
“You looked so serious as you dragged me across the room.”
“I didn’t want anyone to engage me in conversation and delay my time with you,” he said simply. “And I didn’t drag you across the room,” he added with a sweet little laugh.
“I should slap you.”
“You can, if you want,” he said, his pleased smile flustering Ava.
“You’re horrible. And awful.”
“And yet you still want my name.” He was still laughing.
“You're not going to let me forget that, will you?”
“No. never.” He brushed a kiss on her hand again and pressed their joined hands to his heart. “What do you want, my sparrow? Tell me everything you desire.”
She didn’t have to think; she gazed into his eyes and the words flowed from her mouth as quickly as she spoke his name earlier.
“I want the ring. And the ceremony and the dress and the vows. I have other promises I want to make to you. I want that. I want all of that.”
Will nodded, and almost looked relieved “Good. I want all that, too. I want to be the one to give you that ring.” He let go of her hands; lifting his hands he cupped her face and brought his close to hers, his eyes looking like they might waver at any moment. “And I want you to always use my name.”
Ava’s heart filled with a warmth she wasn’t sure she ever felt before. She didn’t know who kissed who, but that didn’t matter. They soon tumbled into the bed, their kisses sloppy and desperate.
“Lie down.” Ava pushed Will down onto the bed and straddled him, her knees on either side of his legs. After removing his jacket and vest, she began to unbutton the buttons on his shirt, leaving a trail of light kisses in her wake. When she neared his chest, she pushed the fabric away, exposing his nipples. He let out a soft moan as she took one between her teeth, gently sucking on it.
She explored further, past his navel and down towards his waist. Pulling away when she got to his pants, she sat up and began to unbuckle his belt.
His breath hitched when you freed his cock. “What are you doing?”
“Loving you,” Ava replied, looking up at him with a sweet smile. Wrapping her fingers around his shaft, she stroked the tip with her thumb, enjoying the pleased sounds he made.
Lowering her body, Ava pillowed her arms across Will’s thighs. She brought the tip of his cock near her mouth; her tongue darted out and licked the tip, swirling around it before covering just the tip with her lips.
She lifted her gaze to meet Will’s and kept her eyes on his while she placed gentle kisses along his shaft.
“Good girls don't tease,” Will groaned.
“Who said I'm a good girl?” Ava asked, lifting her lips off his cock.
“I did…” He let out a delicious moan; his fingers tangling in her hair, he guided her mouth towards his stiff cock. “When you swallow my cock like that, you're my good girl,” he praised.
His hips rocked, thrusting his length in and out of her warm mouth. “You’re almost there,” he said softly, his hand stroking her hair. Her cheeks hollowed as she slid his further in her mouth until his tip hit the back of her throat.
“You feel so good, I'm…”
Cupping his balls, she wrapped her other hand around the base of his cock and squeezed roughly as her head bobbed up and down. He stiffened in her mouth before spilling inside her mouth.
“Swallow it all,” he commanded. It somehow tasted sweeter, her body tingling with a special electricity.
“Just like that…” He held her head gently as she did as he commanded. “You look so pretty with my cock in your mouth,” he sighed.
When she was done, she slid his softening cock from her mouth and held it, kissing the tip clean. He let out an adorable groan. “Keep that up and I’ll be ready again soon.”
“That’s exactly what I want,” she said with a mischievous smile.

I think we have all seen the "Argenti thinks the Reader is Idrila" stuff on here. But what if the reader actually is Idrila? So I wanted to request Argenti/Idrila!Reader (gn or afab reader) headcanons or a oneshot where Idrila, who has taken on a mortal identity after [Insert tragic event here], and meets Argenti. They develop feelings for each other, Argenti finds out she is Idrila, they end up dating. (Maybe or maybe not in that specific order) I thought maybe after protecting her followers from Nanook she disappeared to ensure Nanook doesn't target them anymore? That part isn't as important so feel free to add whatever backstory you think fits^^ Thank you in advance, I really like your writing!
NONNIE omg im booting up star rail rn to stare at him lovingly. also i changed the scenario a smidge so reader is her own person while also being idrila? if that makes sense......?? yeah. also bc otherwise id be writing ten thousand words n i didnt want ur ask to grow dusty in my inbox d(;∀;d) but tysm for the prompt i couldn’t stop thinking about it ueue. also hey gang peep me trying to make my blog look more coherent n nicer looking. am i doin it ⸝⸝⸝⸝⸝⸝ cw: a smidge of amnesia and soulmate trope (it’s not that bad, trust), fluff, love at first sight (does that even count in this scenario....), argenti and reader are dancing around the topic a lot bc argenti is a gentleman and doesn’t want to pressure her to talk. blurbs to set up the plot + a fic after them hehe. not proofread, writer’s block is killing me includes: fem reader (he refers to reader as "my lady"), argenti, natasha, luocha is kinda there wc: 2,3k
-ˋˏ You’d go to Natasha’s clinic at least once every other day because you always had the worst migraines. To the point where you almost got beat up by a Flamespawn one time when you were clearing out calyxes (thankfully there was a Silvermane guard patrolling the area, otherwise you would’ve been charred). The doctor always says the same thing; “Stop looking for fights so often”, “Let your body rest”, “I can’t prescribe you antibiotics”, and your favorite, “Stop slamming my door open I can’t do anything about your headaches”. She was a good friend, but whenever she repeated how she couldn’t be of any help to your predicament, you’d wish you could just take that glass vial hanging from her outfit and chuck it far, far away out of spite.
-ˋˏ Obviously it wasn’t her fault- she'd done everything she could. Natasha even had you undergo the Underworld’s equivalent of an MRI scan because of how frequently you would visit her, insisting that something was wrong. The symptoms consisted of forgetting important things too often, feeling a foreign buzz in your limbs and brain, having a sudden burst of elemental energy come out of your attacks and a myriad of benign but annoying, irritating signs that something was up with you.
-ˋˏ It became more of a chore than anything to leave your room. Some days you felt fine, but then when you’d go out again and beat up wave after wave of enemies in Caverns of Corrosion you would keel over, clutching your head while vague images of what could only be described as a fever dream ran through your mind.
-ˋˏ You decided to leave the Underworld for some time- considering your absence like some sort of “vacation”. You heard of a wandering doctor (and merchant, apparently) by the name of Luocha and, from the people that crossed paths with him, it seemed like he was extraordinary at his job. A trek to the Xianzhou Luofu would be a long one, but after weighing your options you thought you’d give it a try (it was worth it if it meant you’d stop waking up at ungodly hours, holding your head in your hands while hoping, praying that the pain stops.)
-ˋˏ You (somehow) made your way to the Xianzhou Luofu from Jarilo-VI. As competent as you were however, being stranded on a foreign planet with no map nor local to guide you was... a challenge. In retrospect, maybe you should’ve gotten in contact with that Luocha doctor and had him come to Belobog instead of you going to him since, well, he was a traveling merchant. Going from planet to planet is what he does (you assume).
✧✧✧
If you had read up more on general information about the Luofu you would have been aware of how many enemies were roaming around the docking area. But you didn’t. So, unbeknownst to you, a rogue mara-struck soldier was on your tail, trying to sneak up to you to snag the goods you hid in your bag (which were basically just different types of painkillers and sustenance that bodes well on an upset stomach. He doesn’t know that though.)
Your head was throbbing; ever since you set foot on the planet, your physical health had slowly dropped down to levels you wouldn’t be enduring if it wasn’t for the promise of a competent doctor once you get to the main city. Painkillers weren’t working, your feet hurt and to make matters worse, you felt the familiar lack of something in your head. It was so bad to the point where you had to have a tangible mark somewhere to remind you that you did, in fact, just take something for your headache and if you took two more painkillers, your body wouldn’t agree with your decision. It was a struggle even remembering what you did five minutes ago, no way were you going to be in top shape, beating up every enemy crossing your way.
Clouds began covering the bright sun, casting shadows over the desolate, geometric area. You huff, irritated that, from the looks of it, you won’t be able to find a cozy place to set up camp. Though sleeping on a ground made of primarily iron and steel was considerably less nerve-wracking than sleeping on the mushy, cold, dirty ground of Jarilo-VI. So, with a pout aimed at no one in particular, you find some place that you deemed decent enough to set your humble tent. It wasn’t often that adventurers slept outside of safe zones, however with your condition you couldn’t afford to miss out on some rest and possibly get even more lost than you already are.
You set your heavy backpack down, rolling your shoulders to soothe the ache in your muscles from carrying something so bulky. As you ruffle through your belongings, you open a bottled soda and take a swift gulp, sighing contentedly at the pleasant taste on your tongue. Now that you were sat and could rest your bones (until you started setting up your tent, at least), your ears were able to pick up on some not-so-distant footsteps.
There’s no time for you to react; the mara-struck soldier that had been following you lunges at you, aiming for your bag. Your eyes widen and you open your mouth to yell, but before any sound can leave your mouth, a long, red and gold spear pierces the ground between you and the rabid man, making you yelp in surprise. You scurry as far back as you can in your current state; however, the soldier doesn’t have time to take advantage of your weakened stature. The owner of the spear lodges himself before your shaking figure and the mara-struck, yanking his spear out of the ground with impressive elegance, and summons an array of thorny vines to catch your assailant.
It takes little to no effort for the seasoned fighter to take down the mara-struck as he swings his weapon, swiftly knocking the blunt end on the soldier’s plexus, knocking the wind out of him. A strangled scream leaves his throat as he scampers away, leaving your belongings safe with you and the strange red-haired man. He lowers his spear, careful to keep the sharp edge far from you, and turns around to face you properly. His brows raise a smidge for a split second before he composes himself and bows before you, the action short and curt.
“It would have been a shame to lose a beauty such as yourself,” he says smoothly, straightening his back to look down at you with a warm smile. He stretches his hand out, a polite offer to help you stand up, as he continues speaking. “My name is Argenti, I belong to the Knights of Beauty. What might you be doing so far away from civilization, dear...?” he trails off, waiting for you to introduce yourself.
You were in a state of shock, your mind still processing what had happened in such a short amount of time, that you failed to notice the lack of pain at the back of your head. As you meekly tell him your name, you hold onto his hand to help yourself up- as soon as his armored glove comes in contact with your hand something flashes in your mind; too quick to allow you to think about it too much, or to recognize what you saw for a millisecond.
“So far away from civilization... do you know how to get to the city?” you ask as you feel a glimmer of hope spark in you. His words were refreshing, probably the best thing someone has ever said to you in the past month. He nods, reaching into his pocket to fish out a blue handkerchief embroidered with a delicate gold trim. Argenti hands it over to you and you gratefully take it, blotting the sweat and... dust off of your face.
“I have made my way around the Luofu for long enough to show someone the way,” he says kindly. “Besides, even if I didn’t, I would still offer to accompany you through your trek. It is my duty as a Knight of Beauty, for I must uphold chivalry and distinguished manners, in the name of the Goddess guiding me.” His words resonate within you, making you beam, nodding in understanding.
Your reaction doesn’t go unnoticed by the knight. As you hand his handkerchief back, he smiles at you and gestures to your bag. “What brings you so far from your homeworld, my lady?” Argenti asks gently, though a glimmer of doubt swirls in his sparkling, verdant eyes. The question makes you pause, a memory flashing in your mind too suddenly for you to know what it meant. Although, from what you could tell, you knew you could trust him with what troubled you somehow.
“Ah, it’s a long story,” you start sheepishly, “I’ve been having these incredibly painful migraines recently. And sometimes I feel like my memory is fading too quickly for what would be considered normal,” you say, trailing off slightly at the end. “I’m looking for a healer, a doctor by the name of Luocha...?”
Somehow, the doctor was currently the least of your worries. You’d never felt so refreshed before, at least not that you could remember; simply being in Argenti’s presence seemed to be enough to make your aches disappear like a starskiff smoothly gliding through a cloudless sky.
“I’ve seen the man only a handful of times,” Argenti mutters aloud, pulling you out of your thoughts. “I can do my best to guide you to him, but if I may... you don’t seem to be injured?” the knight says, his voice trailing off into a questioning tone despite the observation. You shake your head, wondering how you should explain your predicament to the man.
“Like I said, it’s a long story,” you say again, shrugging sheepishly. You wondered if you should even go into the nitty gritty- he could always just be making small talk to help you get comfortable or something. Sensing your unease, he changes the spotlight to him instead.
“There’s no need to delve into details if you wish to keep them secret,” he says with a kind smile, bending down to take ahold of your hand- gently pressing a chaste kiss on the back of your hand. Red flushes your ears immediately, words caught in your throat at the sight of his hair cascading over his shoulders, a beautiful contrast from the gold and silver armor glittering in what was left of the sunlight.
“As for myself, like I mentioned earlier, I am a Knight of Beauty. I’m on a quest to find my dear Goddess Idrila once more, for I need to pay my respects to them after they saved me from a particularly grim fate.” His words echoed in your mind, your brows knitting together as you felt what could only be described as a cold bucket of water being dunked on your head. “I-Idrila?” you parrot, your voice coming out as a choked noise. Argenti perks up, the hand that had been softly holding onto yours now holding it with a firmer grip, his other hand joining it.
“Yes, Idrila. Have you ever heard of them? Or...” he trails off, looking deep into your eyes expectantly, almost as if he knew something you didn’t. His eyes seemed to suck you in, bringing a comfortable wave of warmth over you, making you yearn for something.
“I...” you begin, your gaze falling down to look at your feet. As you thought long and hard about what you wanted to say, what you tried to remember, you slowly look over to his spear, lying flat on the ground- long forgotten since the fight earlier. As if a lightbulb went off above your head, you perk up just as he did, and look at him, beaming. The words were caught in your throat; there was so much you wanted to say, to declare, to do in this moment of clarity, but with how fast your mind was running to catch you up on the current events of your life it was a struggle.
“Argenti,” you murmur, the name rolling off your tongue smoothly, as you realized seeing the traveling merchant was no longer required. Though the road might have been arduous, and you may have almost lost your mind in the process, being with Argenti suddenly made everything make sense. That’s why your migraines mysteriously disappeared as soon as you were in the knight’s presence, that’s why you had gaps in your memory, that’s why you were freakishly powerful... at convenient times.
Everything clicked into place.
The both of you share a pregnant pause, eyes locked together as the world seemed to come to a stop around you. If it were possible, you’re sure there would be delicate, silky rose petals floating around your figures, suspended in the air. You glance down at his lips, and for the first time, make a decision with a clear head.
His lips felt smooth against yours, the faint taste of vanilla mixed with roses transferring to your own lips. The kiss almost felt like it could be the result of a symbiotic relationship; now that you had Argenti, or at least had him by your side once again, you didn’t think you’d be able to continue on without him.

Gilded Constellations | wolfstar x reader
Series Masterlist | Previous episode
Pairing: Wolfstar x Reader Word Count: 6.2 K Warnings: none Prompt: As Hogwarts days begin, challenges arise, with exhilarating morning flights, and laughter filled environments. Secret struggles surface but a caring gesture from Remus and the Marauders promises to uplift spirits and forge lasting bonds. This IS a wolfstar x reader fic, but it's incredibly slow burn. They won't start all dating each other until we're very deep into the story, but I promise the long wait will be worth it.
Good times
As you walked inside the Gryffindor common room for the first time Lily was sitting on the couch, but stood up the minute you showed up “There you are! I was worried sick!” She told Remus, gave James a look of disdain and turned back to the taller boy “I thought you’d be faster to bring her here.”
“The staircase wasn’t cooperating,” Remus explained. “We had to use a different path.”
“At least you didn’t get caught.” She said taking a deep breath and sitting back down on the couch, now finally relaxing a bit.
“I brought some food from the kitchens,” said Peter, pulling out a kerchief tied at the top and placing it on the table in front of the fire. “It’s just some scones with cream and jam, but I thought we might get hungry.”
“Thanks, Pete,” Lily said as she untied the knot and the top and grabbed one of the little treats.
Then the portrait opened again, letting someone else inside.
You stood just behind Remus, turned towards Lily rather than the entrance but the moment you heard that voice, you froze. It's Sirius.
“Excellent job guys!” He said with a bright smile. Remus turned to him and shot a warning look, to point out they weren’t alone. Sirius saw Lily and nodded “With the evacuation of the great hall–“ he corrected “It was brilliant how you handled it, Lils, Moony, you’re both top tier prefects.”
James rolled his eyes but then a smile appeared on his face, a very James-like smile in fact, filled with charm and mischievousness. “We’ve actually got something to show you.” He said and unexpectedly pulled you from behind Remus in a way that you’d end up facing Sirius instead.
And damned merlin, Sirius was even more beautiful than you remembered. You’d like to think you’d made peace with the idea of being ghosted, with the idea of never seeing Sirius again, but standing right in front of him, now taller, with broader shoulders, longer hair, and the same stunning eyes, made you want to apparate to anywhere but there. So you just awkwardly smiled and waved, hoping he wouldn’t just storm out of the place without even saying a word.
“(Y/N)? What… what are you doing here?” He asked with a frown.
“Hey to you too, old pal,” you said, struggling to not sound as awkward as you felt.
“She’s here Pads!” Said James excitedly, “She’s gonna study with us!”
“Yeah,” Peter added, “She transferred this year like you wished she would back in the day.”
To that you raised an eyebrow, you’d seen his friends get excited when you introduced yourself to them, but it seemed weird that after ghosting you, Sirius told his friends he wished you were a student in Hogwarts “And here I thought you’d never want to see me again,” you said with a bit of a teasing smile towards him, trying to hide the doubt that still lingered in your brain. Could it really be that it had all been some kind of misunderstanding?
“What?” He asked, visibly confused.
“Since you never replied to any of my letters…”
He seemed shocked for a moment and then exhaled in a defeated tone “Walburga.”
“Your mom?” You asked frowning before it downed you “Your mom.”
He nodded “I did always wonder why you never tried to reach out.”
You thought about what he said for a moment and then smiled “Seems like we have a lot to catch up on then.”
Then James placed an arm on top of Sirius's shoulder “And I’m sure you’ll have plenty of time to do that, but now we must go to bed. Tomorrow we’re flying first thing in the morning. We gotta practice before we open the tryouts.”
“Which positions are you missing?” You asked him before anyone had the chance to stop you. Once James started talking about quidditch, it was hard to get him to shut up again.
“We lost a keeper and 2 chasers,” James explained “They were from 7th and graduated last summer.”
“And you fly in the mornings, always?” You asked surprised.
“Gotta stay in top shape, I’m the captain after all.”
“Oh, that’s amazing. Mind if I join you tomorrow? I wanna test my luck on the tryouts.”
He raised an eyebrow “Which position?”
“Uh… I used to play seeker,” he winced at that, “but I’ll try for keeper I guess, I’ve got good eyes for catching things,” you replied with a smile.
“Careful Potter, she may come take your place!” Sirius teased, “All though, for all I know she might be terrible at flying.”
With Sirius teasing you like that, it was as if all those years hadn’t gone by, no resentments, no suffering. Just the two of you, continuing on where you left off. “Oh, isn’t that right? You promised me a race a couple of years ago, but that never played out.”
“Is that a challenge?” He asked but when you were about to reply Lily stood up and placed her arm over your shoulder.
“Might have been,” She said “But we must now go to our room,” she said pointing at you and herself “and you must go back to sleep if you really want to wake up at 5AM.”
“5 AM?” Frowned Sirius.
“Classes start at 7 tomorrow, if you want enough time for flying and breakfast, you’ll have to get up then.” She said before dragging you towards the stairs.
You turned your head, finding it hard to stop staring at Sirius, it was almost like a dream. “Good night boys,” You said, waving at them as you followed behind Lily, Sirius also had a hard time to stop staring at you as you walked next to the red headed girl.
As you were halfway up the stairs she whispered “It’s a terrible idea to challenge Sirius like that, knowing him, he’ll make a spectacle of the race.”
You stopped for a minute, looking at Lily with a cocky grin “It’s only a bad idea if I lose.”
She rolled her eyes with a smile “I barely know you, and so far I can tell you’re just as thick headed as that lot,” she said as she nodded towards them. “Let’s go, I’ll show you our room.”
“We’re together?” You asked with a smile.
She nodded, mirroring your expression “We were the only room with only 3 girls.”
Inside the room were Mary and Marlene, Mary was sitting on her bed while reading a book and Marlene was drying her hair with a towel near a door, which you assumed would be the bathroom. “That’s your bed,” Marlene said, pointing at the bed closest to the door. “It was here when we got to the room, that’s how we figured you’d be with us.”
“That and the trunk with your name on it,” said Mary looking up from her book “We thought you’d gotten lost in the ordeal, but Lily told us you were with Remus.”
“We would’ve gone out to find you otherwise,” added Marlene. “Lily wanted to go even if you were with Remus but we told her you’d be alright.”
“You wanted to go get me?” You asked, turning towards her.
“I felt responsible for leaving you on the stairs,” she explained “I didn’t want you to get in trouble because of me.”
“Thank you,” You told her with a smile. Lily went for a shower and you started to unpack your stuff. Marlene approached you when you pulled your broom out and you talked about quidditch until Lily was out of the shower, at which point you let Marlene have the broom and went for a shower yourself.
When you were back in the room Marlene had already placed your broom on a broom stand on the wall. “It deserved to be admired,” she’d said when you noticed and you nodded with a smile. After that, you’d all gotten comfortable in your beds and the lights were turned off.
“Good night girls,” You said with a smile, after months of feeling lonely, you finally started to feel like you belonged somewhere again. And you were so glad the hat had placed you in Gryffindor, with these girls, who had been all incredibly nice to you, and you were even happy you’d met Remus and his friends, who seemed like they would get you in so many adventures and mischief.
In the morning you were awoken by a small little metal bird picking on your face lightly, it was your mom’s gift before you got to the school, a very elegant cuckoo clock, she’d bought at a furniture store in Diagon Alley. Even if it took you a minute to fully comprehend what was going on you silently stood up and changed, pulling a thick wool sweater over your head and a pair of training pants, thick and sturdy in case of falls. All though, because they were the same you had since you were in the team back at your older school, they were a little tighter than you remembered. Perhaps you really had a growth spurt over the summer.
You grabbed a pair of goggles, your broom, and sneaked out of the room without making any noise. James was already in the common room, tapping his foot as he looked up at the stairs, hair just as messy as the day you’d met him. He looked up at you and smiled. “How is it that you take less time to get ready than Sirius?” He said and then took a deep breath “I guess it is because it’s Sirius who’s getting ready.” You raised your eyebrows in response “He’s brushing his hair,” James complained. You just laughed, longer hair’s harder to care for, but being told about Sirius’ vanity by his roommate was just hilarious. That was when Potter noticed your broom “Is that a Dark Nimbus?” He asked, staring at it from behind.
You nodded “Brand new, mom got it for me to try and make me feel better about moving.”
He stood up and got closer to take a look at it “It’s stunning!” He said with a smile as he accommodated his glasses to see better. “I have a Starmist,” he said pointing towards his broom behind him. “I got it last year, I'd like to see how she fares against your Nimbus.”
“Well, we’ll get to see it today,” You replied with a smile, that’s when you heard a door close and the two of you turned towards Sirius, who was walking down the stairs with a SweepFire he’d had for a couple of years, but that looked well cared for, it had been James’.
“Why are you wearing green?” He asked as soon as he saw you.
You looked down at your sweater and saw it change to burgundy right in front of your eyes, frowning and turning towards him “Did you just… magic dyed my sweater into a different colour?”
“Can’t be seen flying around with someone wearing Slytherin house colours,” he said as he continued walking towards the door “It’d ruin my reputation.”
You raised your eyebrows and gave James a questioning look, he just shrugged in response and followed behind Sirius, you caught up with him shortly after. As you walked down towards the patio James told you all about being Team Captain and how he had to make sure everyone was in top shape. “After the tryouts, it’s not just gonna be flying in the mornings, we’ll have practice at least 4 times a week with the whole team.”
Once on the patio, the three of you got on your brooms. And per James’s instructions did 5 laps around the castle. It was a chilly morning, so you were glad you’d put on the thicker sweater. Once you were done James pulled a quaffle and you all passed it between each other. At some point, He shot it a little farther behind you and you had to fly back to get it, bumping into Sirius and causing him to lose balance.
You responded quickly, stabilising his broom with yours and pulling his arm to stop him from falling, he’d managed to catch the quaffle with his other hand. James had flown towards the two of you as quickly as he could but by the time he arrived you were already pulling Sirius back up and laughing about it. “Maybe we should get some of those muggle hooks so you don’t fall off your broom,” you told him with a small knock on his arm.
“Hey, even without them, I’ve caught it more times than you!” He said with a proud smile.
“Not true!” You said trying to take it from his hands “That was my catch!” You nodded towards the ball in his hand as you attempted to grab it, Sirius used one of his hands to keep you back while he stretched the other arm to maintain the quaffle out of your grip.
“This one? But it’s in my hands.”
“No! I caught you, you caught it, it’s mine by right of catching you first.”
James raised his eyebrows at the exchange and smiled mischievously as he flew towards Sirius' other arm and grabbed the quaffle, flying as fast as possible in another direction. He loved flying, like he always had, but he loved the fact that his best friend was genuinely smiling even more. It wasn’t very often that Sirius smiled like that since he’d run away from his house over the summer.
“Oi!” Sirius complained as he saw James fly by and then turned towards you with a look, with a small smile and a raise of his eyebrows he communicated his plan.
You nodded mirroring his expression and the two of you turned your brooms towards James, flying side by side to corner him.
Once by his side, the two of you threw your hands toward James and tried to take the ball from him. Sirius managed to take it and from slightly above shouted, “Whoever gets to the courtyard with the quaffle in their hands wins!” He then threw the ball as far as he could.
You smiled at that and plummeted towards the direction the quaffle was thrown. You caught it just before it reached the floor.
James, who was still stunned by having the ball stolen from his hands so quickly, saw the entire thing from his broom “Wow!” he said genuinely surprised “She’s really good.” He then flew towards Sirius, who had already managed to take the ball from your hands. You managed to get your hands on the ball again and flew backwards towards James.
“Hey, James!” You called the boy, flying upside down above him “Would you mind telling me where the courtyard is?” You asked politely.
He gave you a pouty look and flew upwards, taking the quaffle back in an unexpected movement. And as he flew ahead turned back with a teasing smile “Sure thing (Y/N), I’ll take you there!” He shouted before flying towards the courtyard with the quaffle itself in his hands.
“You cheat!” You shouted with a grin and flew behind him, trying to catch up. Sirius was already hovering close to the courtyard and was planning to stop James by flying in front of him, but didn’t realise you were flying so close behind him that the moment the three of you were close enough you all crashed onto each other and started falling a few feet towards the grass.
“Arresto Momentum!” Someone screamed from the courtyard and the three of you froze for a moment, once you moved again the impulse forced the three of you towards the grass, pulling a couple of metres of it along with the you. The brooms had gone flying in all directions and then, you all ended up tangled against each other.
“James?!” Asked Lily who had been the one to cast the spell. “What in the bloody– Are you wankers?!”
The moment you saw her you started laughing, so much so that you didn’t remember the last time you’d laughed so openly, you were almost crying. Sirius and James laughed alongside you, as Lily stared with apprehension. You soon realised you had your head on top of Sirius' back and your feet under James’ torso. When the laughter died out the three of you helped each other stand up. You had scraped your knee and leg, James had scraped his arm and Sirius’ lip was parted.
Lily started scolding you once you were up “Look at you three! You could’ve gotten seriously hurt!” She said and then gave Sirius a warning look before he made it a joke of his name “You can’t pull (Y/N) into your dangerous games like that!”
“But she started it,” complained Sirius brattily “She almost threw me off my broom.”
“That was an accident!” you argued back with your finger raised. “I was gonna catch the ball.”
“You shouldn’t reverse without looking first,” he said with both of his hands raised in defence “basic flying principles.”
“But I did look! You appeared out of nowhere.”
Lily rolled her eyes and took a deep breath as he saw the two of you bicker. Then James started to look around “So who won?” He asked with a frown, to which Lily crossed her arms and stared at him.
“Well, I had the ball right before we reached the floor,” You said.
“Yeah, but it fell off your hands as soon as you took it from James and bounced back straight to my face,” He said pointing at his parted lip.
“ALL RIGHT! “ said Lily, shutting everyone up with a clap. “Nobody won, you’re all losers, now, I’m gonna take (Y/N) back to the room so she can put on her uniform before breakfast. I’m sure Marlene should have something to put on her scrape.”
“What about mine?” Asked James pulling his arm up with a pout.
“Well you can take care of it yourselves, after all you know full well where the nurses’ office is,” she responded and pulled you towards the castle.
“Please tell me you will be more careful next time you fly with them?” She said stopping you before you reached the stairs and looking straight into your eyes “I know it can be tempting to play their game but, James and Sirius don’t have a straight sense of danger, I swear they’ve been to the nurse's office over 100 times each.”
You nodded “I got caught up in the fun,” You said as you started to feel the pain in your leg once the adrenaline faded “Lily, I hadn’t flown like that in, years,” you admitted “I wasn’t thinking when I launched myself behind Potter and then Sirius came out of nowhere,” you told her “I couldn’t break on time.”
“On quidditch games there’s supervision. Who knows how much worse you’d be if I hadn’t been there!” She said finally exhaling. You looked down and nodded. Then she leaned in closer “But I do believe you won,” she whispered with a small smile motioning for you to follow behind her.
That left you stunned. Up until that moment, you’d thought Lily was all about following the rules and not having all that much fun, especially since she was a prefect. But that moment proved you wrong. Oh the adventures you’d have with her in the castle, they all awaited you.
Lily took you back to your dorm where you took a really fast shower and changed into your uniform. Marlene didn’t really have anything for your scrape but Mary did, she wanted to become a Mediwitch so she’d been testing some simple potions back at home and gave you one. The pain had gone in an instant but the area still looked scraped when you pulled your socks over half of it. After that, the four of you walked towards the dining hall together to have breakfast.
Once you arrived you saw the boys sitting all together on the farther side of the table, along with most people of your year. There was an empty spot next to Remus, who had his head buried in a book, so you sat next to him, Lily plopped down right next to you while Mary and Marlene sat in the front.
“How are you?” asked Remus as Lily talked about the schedule with Beth and another girl from your year, you looked at him confused and he nodded towards your leg “Heard about the fall, how Lily saved your asses,” he explained.
“Oh,” you replied “Well, It’s alright, looks a lot worse than it feels,” you said pointing at your leg, “Mary gave me some cream potion ting to put on wherever the pain comes back.”
“Want some chocolate?” He said, pulling a small bar from his pocket “It always helps when I’m feeling beaten down.”
You nodded, he broke a piece off and handed it over to you. It was rather soft from his body heat, but you preferred soft chocolate to the hard bars so you enjoyed it quite a lot “How are the boys?” You asked him.
“Oh don’t worry about them,” he told you “They’re used to being scraped all over, they said they had lots of fun tho, it was nice seeing Sirius happy about morning flying, he usually complains about James forcing him to wake up early and ruining his beauty sleep.”
“Beauty sleep?” You asked while holding back a laugh “With those words?”
Remus nodded, smiling too “You’d be surprised by the kind of things he says sometimes, with his posh vocabulary. He’s like a princess.”
“Well I mean he does look like one,” you agreed and tensed right after, but Remus only nodded while glancing at Sirius.
Then Lily gently tapped on your forearm, “hurry and finish up,” she said, nodding at your plate, “our first class starts in 15, and we still have to walk there.” You nodded in response and started munching on your toast faster, gulping down your tea along the way to help the bread soften in your mouth.
When everyone was standing up you grabbed your leftover bread, threw some hazelnut spread on it and bent it from corner to corner, to take it along with you. And then you followed everyone towards your first class.
In the classroom, a very small teacher, standing on top of a podium, awaited for you to arrive. He introduced himself as Professor Flitwick, but you quickly realised that he had only done it for you since everyone else already knew him. He mentioned something about how in this class you’d learn wordless magic and started to explain the basic concepts of it. You, as the rest of them, took notes of the things the teacher was saying with your quill.
After Charms, you had Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall, which had been, in all honesty, rather complicated for you. While you were certain McGonagall was a brilliant teacher, you had a hard time grasping the art of turning teapots into ferrets and ferrets into teapots, and that was without even thinking about the fact that down the line, you’d have to transform people into animals too.
Your third class was divination, and while you were relatively good at it, you were never really attracted to the art of predicting the future, since you’d had bad experiences in the past. Divination is only fun if you’re guessing good things that will happen, like who will win the Quidditch Championship or small things like “It’ll rain tomorrow.” But when you guess sad or tragic things, people stop liking it, and you along the process, that’s why you had dropped the course back in your old school. Unfortunately, you couldn’t do that here, since it wasn’t an optional class.
A tall dark skinned professor walked inside the round classroom that stood in the farthest part of the North Tower. He was wearing a long green robe and had a very mysterious aura going around him. “My name is Aurelius Spellman,” he said in a very deep voice “I’ve met some of you before, some of you are in my class for the first time ever, but, be certain, I know each and every single one of you.” You were sitting next to Marlene in that class and you raised your eyebrows at her in a poking manner, she giggled.
“McKinnon, (Y/LN), Would you mind sharing the joke?” He said turning to face you. You instantly sat straighter and shook your head, “I’d like to see if what I’ve heard from Professor Ashbourne is true, she wrote to me all about your talents.” He said, giving you a stern look.
“I have no talent sir,” you lied, Ashbourne had been your divination teacher back in your older school, she had continuously pressured you to pursue your abilities until you predicted something that made you quit it for good. You did not like Professor Ashbourne one bit. “My predictions are rarely any accurate, I’m especially bad with classic fortune telling such as Xylomancy and Arithmancy.”
“What about cards?” He said placing an old Spanish deck on your table.
You took a deep breath and pushed them back “I thought we were going to follow the curriculum,” you said steadily, “Don’t we have to do runes first?”
He raised an eyebrow at you “Miss (Y/LN) is -in fact- correct, 10 points for Gryffindor, this first unit we will be looking at the art of reading ancient runes. Please open your books on page 50. Potter, start reading, will you?” You exhaled the moment he started paying attention to James’ reading instead of you.
At the end of the class, he divided some stacks of runes and handed them over to the students at random. You had to study their meanings and write what the runes would mean when combined with other things. It was really easy since you had already done runes in your old school, but you were thankful you weren’t actually reading someone’s future and had just a random set of runes instead.
Once the class was over you rushed outside as fast as possible, escaping while some girls walked towards the teacher to ask him about the meaning of some runes, you really didn’t want him to call you regarding the whole Ashbourne thing. You had walked down the stairs so fast you didn’t even realise you’d left everyone behind, you leaned back onto a wall and allowed yourself to rest for a bit, heavy breaths becoming softer the more time passed.
Remus spotted you from a couple of steps higher as he walked down, and after noticing your distress decided to approach you. “You all right?” He asked softly, as if not to startle you.
You turned to him and blinked a couple of times before you managed to ground yourself. This was Hogwarts, that was Remus, and you only had to read random runes here, you didn’t need to predict anyone’s future. You nodded in response. “I got wrapped up in my thoughts for a moment,” you excused yourself “I’m not a big fan of divination.”
“I don’t know about your old professor, but Spellman will not pressure you into anything,” he reassured “Besides he already has a star student of his own,” he said nodding towards a small Ravenclaw girl with thick-rimmed glasses who was passing by.
“Sybill?” You asked, raising one of your eyebrows.
Remus nodded, tilting his head towards you as he spoke “last name is Trelawney.”
“Hold up, that Trelawney?”
He nodded again and then smiled “Let’s go get some food, I wanna show you something,” he said and started walking downwards.
You eyed him suspiciously and followed behind. Instead of taking you to the great hall, he took a deviation, walking down a long spiral staircase until you arrived to a long passageway. There seemed to be nothing but a couple of portraits there. Remus approached one of them, used his wand to make a little pear on the painting to move, and all of the sudden, the portrait opened itself like a door would, just like the entrance to the Gryffindor common room.
There was a rather narrow and short passageway, and finally, you found the kitchens, an enormous room, about the same size as the Great Hall, with tables positioned in the exact same layout. “The elves use the tables to magically take the food from here to the great hall, it’s right above us,” he whispered as he noticed you observing.
He then kindly asked some of the domestic elves there to pack some food for you. You saw Nimbletwist among them and waved at her. She smiled and waved back. Once the food was ready the elves handed them over to Remus and he thanked them. You followed behind him as he led you outside. When you approached the door of the castle he pulled a small paper plane from the inside pocket of his robe and swished his wand over it. The plane took off towards one of the halls.
You frowned as you looked at the plane fly off “The boys?” You asked.
He nodded, “So they bring dessert.” From then he walked out and guided you through the grounds all the way to the lake.
He pulled out a cloth and extended it over the floor “A picnic?” You asked, raising your eyebrows.
“It’s a wonderful day,” he said with his arms wide open.
You looked up with a bit of a frown. “It looks like it may rain soon.”
“This is England love, it always looks like it might rain soon,” he said plopping down on top of the cloth and pulling out some of the food the domestic elves had prepared.
Which reminded you of something you wanted to ask “Do they just… give food to whoever asks nicely?” You asked.
“Most of the students don’t know where the kitchens are,” Remus explained. “Peter found them in second year when we were exploring the castle’s secret passages, he befriended the elves, they give us food whenever we ask them now.” He said as he patted the side for you to also sit on the cloth, you complied. Once you sat beside him he pointed at the lake “Whenever I’m feeling down, I like to come here,” he explained “The giant squid comes out every now and then, it’s relaxing to see him swimming around without any worries to perturb him.”
Sitting next to Remus, with the light watery breeze, you thought back to the day you’d met him, and how he’d looked like a pirate from the cover of a spicy novel to you. He still looked as handsome as one, but he had much more depth than just a hot pirate. Layers, you thought, this boy has so many layers. You turned to look at the lake and saw the giant squid he’d been talking about. It floated aimlessly for a minute and then went back under the water, it really was as peaceful as Remus had described.
As you stared at the water you grabbed one of the pork pies and started munching on it “Oh, these are incredible,” you said as you took another bite.
He nodded “They’re Sirius’ favourites, thought you may like them,” he said as he grabbed his own. As the two of you talked about charms and transfiguration James, Sirius and Peter arrived.
Peter, who was carrying a basket in his hands, sat down next to you, and turned to Remus as he grabbed a pork pie, “You brought her to your spot.”
“Yeah, she seemed like she needed it,” Remus replied with a shrug, “you guys brought the desserts?”
Sirius and James were quick to sit in front of the three of you, closing the circle completely. “I got some of those meringue pies you really like,” said Sirius, looking at Remus attentively “and chocolate pudding too.”
James nodded “he used all his charms on the kitchens,” and then he turned to you “By the way, the Gryffindor tryouts will be on Friday at four,” he said giving you a look “I’ll see you there, yeah?” You nodded in response, “But you won’t get any special treatment just because we’re friends,” he said in a warning tone, you laughed.
“Yeah right, of course, the Gryffindor Team Captain can’t have a bias,” you replied with a smile as you gave him a small nudge and finished your pie.
“Which class do we have next?” Asked Peter.
“How do you manage to keep your head in the clouds all the time Wormy?” Asked Sirius as he threw himself back, letting his hair sprawl on the grass, looking absolutely carefree as he took a piece of chocolate fudge to his mouth, looking absolutely prince-like, as always.
“Wormy?” You asked, turning to Peter.
“It’s a long story,” he exhaled, “short for Wormtail.”
“Wormtail? Now that’s even worse!” You said with a frown. “But you all gave weird names to each other right? Sirius is Pads, and…” you turned to Remus “You’re Moony.”
“Padfoot actually,” corrected Sirius as he took another bite of his fudge and then pointed at James “He’s Prongs.”
“Wow, and that’s what you call your friends? I wouldn’t wanna be your enemy…”
Remus chuckled lightly, looking amused and eventually turned to Peter “It’s Herbology?”
“Herbology?” you asked, turning to Remus with a frown.
“Last class of the day too, why?”
“I’m… exceptionally good at getting plants to die,” You explained “Theory and memory, that’s no problem, but keeping them alive… Let’s just say… it’s not among my talents.”
“Wormy’s really good,” said James “And Evans, I’m sure they’d give you a hand.”
“Last year he kept my plant alive,” Sirius said in agreement “And Moony’s, when he was out of it.”
Remus pulled his sleeve up a bit and checked his watch, which let you see he had some more scars up his arms as well, “All right boys, time to get going, we need to be at the greenhouses in 15.”
Sirius took a deep breath and sat back down, joining the rest of you as you put everything back in the basket, Peter held it as the boys guided you to Herbology.
Marlene was the first one to spot you as you were entering the castle, and she called in for Lily, “Hey Lils, she’s not lost, she was with the boys.”
At that moment you left the boys behind and walked towards them, “you were looking for me?” You asked her when you stood in front of her.
“Marlene mentioned how uncomfortable you were at divination, we were waiting for you at the great hall and when you didn’t arrive we started to worry, in my first year I got lost rather often, and some parts of the castle can be very dangerous,” she said stressing the last bit.
You were moved by how caring Lily was of you, you’d met the girl only a day ago and she’d been more worried about you when she’d thought you got lost than your damn parents when you were exploring muggle London for a week, touching your house only for a dash of sleep before disappearing pretty early in the morning, Lily would be a great mother, you thought. “The boys took me for a picnic,” you explained, “that’s why we didn’t go to the great hall.”
She nodded “I should’ve guessed, you’ve gotten chummy with them already.”
“Well, they are fun to hang out with,” you shrugged, “and of course, I already knew Sirius.”
“You did?” She frowned, to which you nodded.
“Met him a couple of years ago on a family vacation,” you explained.
“Hold up! A couple of years ago? Are you talking about Sirius’ vacation in Mexico?”
You nodded, “yeah, why?” Lily started laughing
“Sirius was hung up on you almost the entire year,” Marlene said as she caught up with you “We knew he’d met a mystery girl when Peter accidentally let it out.”
“Oh, Was he?” You said with a cheeky smile “You girls are just giving me more fuel to tease him.”
“Please do! He literally had all the girls crying because he kept ignoring their love letters. Throwing them to the fire and eating the treats he was sent. I was tired of girls asking me to introduce them formally.”
You laughed while shaking your head, “Ahhh.. this is gonna be a fun year.”
Soon enough, you all arrived at your classroom. The teacher introduced himself as Mr. Folly and started explaining some of the curative benefits of Spellvine and how it was especially helpful for potions to treat pain. You noticed Mary was especially attentive in class, you guessed it had to do with her goal of becoming a Mediwitch. While you wrote down all the special needs and care specificities of Spellvine the teacher handed everyone their own seed. It was going to be the course’s objective to grow said plant from scratch.
After class, you went back to the common room and Lily decided to show you the way to the library, so you could do research for homework. Inviting you again to her and Remus’ study group, she said the first session would be on Wednesday. Eventually you went back to the Great Hall and you had dinner with everyone and finally, went back to your shared room.

Drawn Together
One-shot: Gortash x fem!Tav
This is a gift for @nusaran for the Elfsong Tavern’s Valentine’s Day gift exchange. Thanks for the fun prompts!!
Content Warning: NSFW (minors do not interact), little bit of smut (afab Tav), house fire
Summary:
It's a day of celebration at the Elfsong Tavern, which is bursting at the seams with decorations, ale, and patrons. Everyone is eager to partake in the festivities and express their love for one another.
Well, almost everyone.
Your mind is elsewhere tonight. You have yet to find your soulmate, though one person in particular has been consuming your thoughts. And he isn't the type to attend a party at the Elfsong Tavern. Perhaps it wasn't meant to be, anyway.
Set in game during Act 3 (spoilers!). You can read it below or on ao3.
Gale is in particularly high spirits this morning.
He hums softly and smiles to himself, like someone just shared the most delightful secret with him.
His hands work in their practiced way, pulling the most beautiful decorations from the weave. Soft pink pastels dance among deep burgundies while pearl white accents twist them together, joined by garlands of flowers. It reminds you of home. Of celebrations with your friends, your family. Of a lighter time, seemingly lifetimes ago.
His outlook on life has taken a turn for the positive these days, though you suppose having a new lease on life could do that for a man. Only just a few days ago, you convinced him not to sacrifice himself to the netherbrain - instead, you believed that he was worth sacrificing for. Even if that meant more danger in the future, or an unknown path. We would all do it, together.
You grip a bit tighter to the warm mug in your hands as you walk over to Gale.
“What are we celebrating?” You ask, coyly.
“Oh,” Gale breathes out with a deep, content sigh. He drops his attention from the weave and focuses his eyes on yours.
“You must know what day it is! What we are celebrating! We partook in the festival each and every year back home in Waterdeep. I assumed it was well-known in Baldur’s Gate as well, but given your reaction - and Astarion’s as well - perhaps you’ve been suffering without such a holiday your entire lives! Please, allow me to explain it to you. It is a celebration of love - the divine and sacred bonds between family, treasured friends, and lovers.”
His hand reaches out for your arm, gently squeezing near your shoulder before letting his hand drop back to his side.
“I just wanted to thank you, again. I know that I truly cannot thank you enough for what you’ve done for me. For every single thing you do for me. You’ve made me start to believe in myself again - to believe that I am worth lifelong friendship… and perhaps even love.”
Your eyes dart away from his to look towards the ground. He is being so vulnerable and forthcoming with you, like always. But you can’t help having this wall up between you, holding you back from letting him in. You bring your mug up to your lips to distract from the growing silence.
“…perhaps even love, with someone, one day,” Gale relents. “I know we are only fated to be friends, and I respect that. Our friendship means the world to me, I hope you realize that.”
Gale’s words are warm and sincere. You return his kind words with a soft smile, looking back up at him.
“I really appreciate your friendship too, Gale.” You settle down on a seat nearby to watch as he brings the weave back to vibrant life.
You know, deep in your heart, that Gale will find his perfect match. At least they will be relatively easy to recognize, given the unique scar decorating his chest.
While many people form relationships - largely temporary - with others without matching scars, that idea never appealed to you. Oh, perhaps a stolen night here and there, but never anything real. You couldn’t see opening yourself up to someone, to let them in so deep, just to have them leave you for their real soulmate.
Your eyes scan the room at the Elfsong Tavern until you find Astarion. He is sitting on the ground, cross-legged and hunched over something he was working on in his lap. His scowl is present in every feature of his face - his lips drawn into a tight frown, his forehead knit together in frustration, his eyes narrowed. You assume he is bitter about the festival, and it goes beyond the fact that romance makes him feel uncomfortable and self-conscious.
This festival would only serve as another reminder of the many impacts of his vampiric affliction. Though otherwise a good thing, his skin can heal on its own - therefore, he has no scars. He will never be sure of his soulmate like the rest of us. And so he certainly can’t be sure that Wyll is his soulmate.
Time and time again, Wyll has offered reassurance to Astarion. Wyll will claim that the matching scars don’t matter to him, that he knows what is in his heart, that his love will never stray to another. But you can see the fear behind Astarion’s eyes. And you understand it.
Even now, you see Wyll crouch down next to Astarion and start to rub his shoulders, leaning to whisper something in his ear. Astarion flinches from his touch, reflexively. You look away to give them at least a modicum of privacy within this shared living space.
Swirling the liquid in your mug, your mind is pulled back into the events from the other day, when you entered Wyrm’s Rock. After your confrontation with the guard and the Steel Watchers at the bridge, you were surprised to receive an invitation to Gortash’s coronation. Though, from everything you heard of the man, he did seem a bit full of himself. Of course he would demand your attendance to that charade of an event, in his honor. Especially after you so easily defeated Ketheric.
You aren’t entirely sure why you accepted a strategic alliance with Gortash. He was clearly a better choice than Orin, though logic could also assume that you need not choose to ally with either of your enemies. His words were tempting, a seemingly genuine and alluring offer of shared power.
But that wasn’t what tempted you. The way he moved towards you with cool confidence. His tall figure loomed over you as he drew near. He didn’t have the same physical presence as someone like Halsin, but he frightened you all the same. He didn’t need it to appear formidable. To be imposing.
When he gripped your hand in partnership, you could swear he held on for just a moment longer than necessary. His dark eyes lingered on yours before trailing, slowly, down your body. Your heart lept into your throat as a flush of heat warmed your face and brightened the tips of your ears.
You tore your eyes away from his, embarrassment washing over you. Though, admittedly, this wasn’t the only feeling you were experiencing… You hadn’t felt those kinds of stirrings within you before. Not for any of your companions, despite their (many) advances.
No. You shook your head to try to distance yourself from such thoughts. A man like that, a follower of Bane, knows how to pull you into his web. This isn’t personal - it’s his own strategic manipulation, just like he used Karlach.
“Here.” You are startled out of your memories by a tight, strained voice. You look up to see Astarion handing Gale a delicate, embroidered heart.
***
The Elfsong Tavern is a sight to behold tonight. Gale, as convincing as ever, was able to fill the room with decorations for the festival. He stood by the door to greet each patron and provide them with a rousing introduction to the holiday, whether they were interested or not.
You find yourself at the bar, sipping on a glass of wine. You glance around the room as it is filled with joyful guests. Some were paired off and dancing - Wyll gracefully led Astarion as they danced together. You recognize it as one Wyll had been practicing on his own for several nights at camp.
Others were locked together in deep conversation; Lae’zel and Shadowheart among them. Over the past few months, you’ve watched their relationship move from enemies to friends. You saw perhaps a hint of something deeper, here and there, but they didn’t seem ready yet to admit that to themselves. You smile into your wine as you take in a deep drink.
Karlach and Halsin were making their rounds throughout the tavern. Halsin made fast friends wherever he could, offering stories and friendship to anyone who might be in need of it. Karlach, with her recent upgrades and ability to touch people, was very eager to make up for lost time.
All around you, people were happy. Your companions were coupling up - perhaps not with their soulmates, no. But at least they had some companionship, some connection. Why does it matter if it is only temporary? You might not even make it through all of this alive.
With a heavy sigh, you push yourself away from the bar and walk out to the front patio. You rest your forearms on the railing, closing your eyes. No one at the tavern caught your interest, anyway.
Your mind begins to drift, filling with ‘what ifs’. What if Gortash were at this party? Would he even notice you? Has he been thinking of you? Does he feel as ridiculous as you do, pining over someone after one simple interaction? What if...
The smell of smoke fills your nostrils and rips you away from your thoughts. Your eyes snap open, scanning the sky for smoke. You see a small plume of it begin to stack and rise into the air. You feel your legs propel you towards it before you can even register your actions - you know you don’t have much time to think about a plan of action before it’s too late.
Soon, you arrive in front of a small home. Through the window, you can see the flames rising, building up in strength. Amid the smoke, you see a figure, hunched over and immobilized in fear. You cast misty step to get inside the house.
“I’m here to help!” you call out to the person over the roar of flames. They lift their head towards you, their face contorted between fear and hope. You see a back window nearby, close enough that they could escape.
“Step to the side!” you command, and they dive for shelter out of your path. You cast thunderwave to bust open the window so they can make their escape. Glass explodes out through the back, allowing enough space for the person to make a quick leave. However, the new opening allowed for a rush of fresh air to flood the house, adding new fuel to the fire.
The flames leap up with greater force, tongues lashing at the ceiling and quickly melting through the thatches of the roof. The force and ferocity of the flames knock you back, breaking your concentration. You lost the small opportunity you had to fly out of the house after casting your spell.
The walls of flames burn hotter around you and smoke starts to fill your lungs. Panicking, you fall to the ground, desperate for air, throat burning. If you had only taken the time to think, for even just a moment, perhaps you’d have called for help from Karlach before leaving the tavern. Or you could have asked for a Steel Watcher on your way.
One last idea comes to your mind as your body begins to shut down for self-preservation. You feel your magic build within you as you summon everything left inside. Eyes blurry, the spell leaves your lips in a whisper.
Slowly, heavy droplets begin to build into a steady downpour, dampening the roar of the flames. You welcome the stinging rain as bit at your cheeks, offering relief from the heat gathered on your cheeks. Coughing, you struggled to try to get up, weak from the inhaled smoke and spent magic.
Through your blurry peripheral, you notice a figure enter the house. Could it be one of your companions, looking for you? Grateful, you remained on the ground and raised a hand, hoping they could notice you and help you out of this mess. Heavy steps come briskly towards you, and you feel one arm scoop up under your knees while the other holds your back. They lift you up into their arms to carry you out of the building.
Exhausted, you let your head fall against their chest, clutching the fabric of their jacket with your hand. Rain continues to pour even outside of the house (how strong was that spell?). Completely soaked, you begin to shiver, in violent contrast to the state you were in only moments ago. They hold you tighter to their chest as they walk briskly, tirelessly, down the street.
Finally, you are able to open your eyes and register the direction you are going.
“The Elfsong Tavern is the other way,” you mumble softly, bringing your eyes back to your hand that is pressed against their chest. You freeze, a jolt sent straight down your spine. This body doesn’t feel familiar to you. Against all better judgment, you will yourself to look up.
You see his long black hair, plastered down against his face from the pouring rain. The rain traces his cheekbones and small wrinkle lines, outlining his features. His dark eyes catch yours. They look right through you, piercing, hardened, angry. Your body tenses as you flatten your palms against his chest, ready to push yourself away.
He lifts your body up slightly to press his lips into the top of your head.
“Don’t.” He whispers before bringing you back down again and pressing you against his chest.
You aren’t sure why, but you listen to him. You close your eyes and lean your head back into his chest.
***
Finally, you are inside. Warmth burns your cheeks, though your body is freezing from the wet clothes clinging to your body. You are brought to a room where he gently sets you down on a chair. He hands you a health potion, which you quickly drink without a second thought. The liquid starts to work immediately, repairing your raw throat and the other, thankfully minor, injuries from the fire.
Gortash bends over a hearth, coaxing up the flames. You are surprised to see him like this - Lord Enver Gortash, on his knees, making a fire for you?
He crosses the room in a couple of broad steps, soon standing at your feet.
“We need to get you out of these wet clothes.” Gortash extends his hand towards you.
You raise an eyebrow up at him.
“Unless you want to get sick, and make an embarrassingly easy target for Orin.”
Of course. That is what this is about. He is simply protecting his business partner. Protecting his assets.
You roll your eyes, feeling self-conscious about your earlier thoughts and curiosities about your potential relationship. You take Gortash’s hand with an aggravated huff, masking your hurt feelings and slightly wounded pride with a show of annoyance.
He brings his gold-adorned hands up to your shoulders. His fingers linger near the straps of your dress, the metal tips of his gauntlet ghosting your skin. Gently, he slips the straps off to the side of your shoulders. Surprised by the softness of his touch, a small gasp escapes your mouth.
He touches your shoulders again, urging you to turn around. You give in, the tips of your ears turning bright red as you face away from him. His fingertips drag, slowly, from your shoulders to the middle of your back. Though his touch is gentle, it scorches your skin, sending waves of white-hot heat through your body. You tighten your hands into fists, nails biting into your palms and bite your bottom lip to stifle any unintended sounds that threaten to escape.
His fingers find purchase on your zipper and he pulls it down, opening your dress to the bottom of your back. He brings his hands up to the top of your dress and drags it down your body, the wet fabric clinging desperately to your skin. He follows it down your body, around the dip of your waist, over the curve of your hips, down to your ankles, then helps you step out of dripping cloth. He hangs the fabric over a chair near the fire, with care. Who is this man?
You try to make sense of this. He is just helping you. Helping his business partner.
You turn back around to face him. The hair on your body stands on end as goosebumps fill your exposed skin. Gortash steps back in front of you, closer this time.
He reaches his hand to catch your jaw in his grip, the metal tips biting into your skin. He lifts your chin up, eyes blazing as he takes you in. Eager to consume you. You struggle to pull away, to shield yourself from his hunger, but his grip on your jaw is steadfast.
He swipes the pad of his thumb across your chin, tracing a faint scar. A deep sigh rumbles within his chest. With his free hand, he brings yours up to his face. You copied his movements, placing your fingers along his jaw, running your thumb along the scar on his chin…
Wait.
Wait.
No. That’s…that’s just a common scar. So many people have scars on their face. It will take more than just this to convince you.
With trembling hands, you reach up to unlace his shirt. You fumble a bit, unsure if it’s because of nerves or the sloppy way in which he laced it in the first place. Finally, you grasp the bottom of his shirt and pull it up over his chest, peeling off the wet fabric as it clings to his skin. You take in the sight of him, the fire casting a dim light and deep shadows across his features. Your eyes trail along his warm, tanned skin, watching the subtle flex of the muscles in his arms as he pulls the shirt over his head. Dark hair, damp and lightly glistening, decorated his chest down to his stomach, disappearing in the waistband of his pants.
But, most importantly, your eyes land on a spot on his side. Impulsively, you reach out a hand to trace the line etched into his skin, a jagged edge, poorly healed. You hadn’t been able to stitch it up well enough to prevent the lasting mark. And here it is - reflected in another.
You drew in a sharp breath as the reality of this situation came crashing down into you. Enver Gortash: The man who kidnapped your friend’s father. The man who betrayed your friend and damned her to the hells. The man who controls the Netherbrain, and wants to rule over all of Faerûn.
Your soulmate.
Gortash laces his fingers into yours and leads you to the bed nearby. He sits you down on the bed and steps back. His hands move, slowly, to unbuckle his pants.
You bite your lips, holding your breath.
He let his pants fall to his ankles, kicking away the gathered fabric at his feet. Your eyes flick down below his waist for just a moment, long enough to glimpse the size of him straining at his undergarments. Gortash meets your wide eyes with a lazy half-smile, the knowing smile of a man with a dangerous amount of self-confidence.
He parts your legs to stand between them, raking the sharp points of his nails up and down your thighs. You shiver, feeling a burning need start to wind up inside your core.
He continues his exploration, hands running slowly over your hips, your waist, and dragging up to your breasts. He cups one in each hand, massaging gently before bringing one of your nipples into his mouth. He sucks and swirls his tongue around the sensitive bud, pinching your other nipple with his hand. You cry out, throwing your head back as you tangle your hands in his damp hair.
He releases you from his mouth to continue his slow worship of your skin, leaving soft kisses up your chest and over your shoulder. Once he reaches your neck, his kisses get more needy, more desperate. He opens his mouth to bite - hard. You gasp, wrapping your legs around his waist to press him closer to you. You know that are already leaking through your panties, and that doesn’t stop you from trying to grind your hips against him, making sure he feels just how badly you want him.
His mouth is replaced by his hand over your throat, metal-tipped nails digging sharply into your skin as he dulls your air supply. You bring your hands to the one at your neck, but his grip is firm. Your thoughts are swimming as you pull in shallow breaths, and you claw at his grip in vain. As he takes more and more from you, your need for him only deepens.
He pushes you back on the bed, caging you in with his arms around your head. A moment passes as you look at each other, his pupils blown.
You bring his head towards yours, inviting him in. His lips meet yours, tentatively at first, then mad with fervor - clashing against yours like a man starved. His tongue dances against yours, exploring your mouth, desperate to taste all of you. Your nails dug for purchase across his back as he groans into your mouth. You line your hips up with his, grinding yourself against his clothed erection, soaking it through. You wanted more, needed more of him, clawing and pulling at him to press you both together.
He breaks from the kiss, panting, and pushes his body off of yours.
“Ilyana.” Gortash says your name with confidence, possession. Hearing your name from his lips did something to you. You arch your back, keening towards him, wanting him - needing him - to take you. He slips off your panties and removes his last layer. You watch as his hard cock springs loose from his clothes, the tip of it already glistening with precum. Your body aches, desperate for him. He watches you writhe with anticipation as he slowly strokes himself.
“I have been waiting forever to find you. To have you. And now, you are mine.”

Tender and Tired
So, me and @judasiskariot got chatting and with it came a prompt that I was given the OK to work on ^^ - So, of course, I did and somehow ended up writing the story of Devorah (she's so beautiful!) which was one of her Tav's. An amazing experience writing this and I'm just so glad you enjoyed it and am letting me share her with the world. <3
Prompt - "And of course combine angst and smut! 😆 also like...maybe... 🤔 fear of losing someone/fighting for their life and than survive, comforting after horror and rescue and relief sex because happy ending and reveal the feelings that they had not done before and almost never had the chance?"
Word Count - 3734 Words - CW - Angst / Pining / Smut - (Blowjob) - Happy ending ;)
“It’s okay, you’re going to be okay. Just stay with me…”
The dark blood was seeping through Gale’s wrap shirt, a crimson weed growing amongst the fields of cotton lying on his abdomen. The sweat beaded on his brow and all Devorah could do was hold her hands to the wound, a quiet prayer hung unspoken on her lips, so many desperate words unshared between them never to be uttered.
---
Devorah lay within the forest, Astarion’s cool arms draped over her bare chest as the stars glistened above them in the night sky. Her eyes followed each constellation, a path home should she ever find herself truly lost, but could those same stars lead her to what her heart truly desired? These passionate nights had been ‘fun’ just as he’d promised, bodies entwined, the piercing bite to her neck leaving her tiptoeing the path between life and death. All she had to do was let go, just as he did, and yet, just like him, her mind was always elsewhere.
“You sleep less than me,” he mumbled into the crook of her neck, planting an icy kiss upon her soft skin.
“Hm. Difficult to sleep when we don’t know what’s ahead of us.”
He dragged a fingertip across her naked breast, causing her to suck in a breath in expectation. “I find it more difficult to sleep knowing what lies behind me.”
Devorah moved her body weight so she could face him. His cherry tinged eyes held an insatiable hunger but behind them a depth that would creep out, a bound child locked in darkness, scared of the burning light. She had heard the nightmares through the tadpole, seen the face of Cazador, felt the words of pure loathing spat at Astarion through the pinhole opening of an entombed prison. Anything ahead would be better than what he’d left behind.
“I guess I just hope for a future. You know marriage, romance, love…” she sighed. “But with the tadpoles, what if they-”
Astarion interrupted her, knowing where she was going with her questioning. “Then I’d kill you, just as you would kill me. We would both die long before that happened.” He lifted his head to be above her, their current position a little too emotionally intimate for his liking. “A much more pleasant run around the second time, I’m hoping.”
“Death? Or were you thinking of something else?” Devorah gave him a playful smirk, her hand running up the side of his pale-skinned abdomen.
“And here I thought I was the insatiable one.”
Love would have to wait, she decided, as once again she lost herself in the illusions of a near-death fantasy.
---
“Not relaxing in the comfort of another’s arms this evening, my dear?” Gale asked, not lifting his eyes from the pages before him.
Devorah scowled at him as he sat upon a woollen blanket near his tent. Obviously, the petty argument between her and Astarion had been heard. Nothing serious, but another bickering over a ritual she knew was too dangerous to commit to. Of course, he wanted that kind of power; who wouldn’t? But seven thousand souls were far more than she would allow to rest on her conscience.
“No, if you must know,” she said curtly, her mood still a simmering anger beneath the surface.
Since arriving in the Shadowlands, her passionate relationship had been affected by the surrounding curse. At least that was her only explanation for what was going on between her and Astarion. Their nights together were more of just scratching an itch with one another than enjoying each other’s company. Their conversations had dwindled to a couple of words, and the sniping and cattiness was becoming almost nightly. It had to be the curse. It was certainly not the way her attention kept being pulled by the deep brown eyes of her warm-blooded companion, one who spoke with the lilt of a poet, one who made her heart beat with a warmth seen only in Karlach.
Gale lifted his head, noting the aggression in her tone. “Do you want to discuss it?”
Devorah noted the space next to him, the way he placed his book aside with all his attention dedicated to her. “Honestly, that’s the last thing I want to do.”
“They why not simply sit and enjoy a moment of silence with me?” He lifted his hand and with it, the world grew quiet. There were no longer the groans of the cursed creatures in the distance, the crackling of the campfire was now but a dance of light and shadow, and Devorah for the first time in what felt like an age could hear her own thoughts without interruption of the outside world.
She sat beside him before closing her eyes and breathing deeply, noticing the lack of sound that came out as she exhaled. It was strangely comforting, a glimpse of death before darkness truly fell. She felt as Gale pulled himself closer to her, sharing his warmth and life, something she had missed in the arms of her lover. Her shoulders relaxed, her heartbeat calmed as if she were about to fall asleep, and for a moment there was no tadpole, no looming death over their heads.
Opening her eyes, she saw his soft gaze upon her, noticed the chestnut strands of hair that wisped upon his brow. If it wasn’t for the subtle ache in her neck, a reminder of nights gone, she knew she would have kissed him in that moment, a future of conjured peaceful moments filling her with longing.
But just as there was no sound, there were also no kisses on warm lips that night.
---
Days and nights passed where both Devorahand Gale denied what was happening between them. The hidden glances across flames, the brush of hands together in passing, a night under illusionary stars where both had dared not think of a bleak future. Neither would speak up about what was occurring, of the times where both found calm just in each other’s company. He would simply watch as she vanished into her lover’s tent, leaving him alone to wonder if things could have been different if he were different. And she would not speak of the nights of lying in cold arms, dreaming of a future she would never have, if only she had made different choices, if only she too were different.
---
With the setting of the sun, the docks shone as if aflame, a low hung dust filling the air from the destruction of the city. Alone stood Devorah, her mind quiet, her heart slowed, her wishes of love buried under remembrance of her recent dance with Death. Now, with the Netherbrain defeated, her companions had dispersed, leaving her with only the tangled threads of fate and no clear path ahead. She looked out over the water; the portal having just vanished before her with the lives of her friends. She could see the scorch marks of Karlach’s departure, blackened and ashen, upon the boards beneath leather boots, a reminder that the God of Death could be beaten if only you were willing to fight for it, if only you kept the people you loved at your side.
As they’d left the Shadowlands, Devorah had spoken at length with Astarion about his own ideas of their ‘love’. It was all so complicated, many a vulnerable moment shared and considered, and both knew in their hearts that nothing good would come of remaining together. Instead, they left with growth and loss. Friendship had been the overall outcome of the discussion, and it was that which he certainly needed if he were to heal. She welcomed this, but deep down mourned what she had missed out on: not what she could have had with him, but what she’d given up on being with him in the first place.
Now, as the sun slowly descended across the skies of the Sword Coast, she thought of the one she knew she loved, the one she had let leave to save them both the heartbreak. The waves licked the pillars beneath her and with the exhaustion of victory came the further stirrings of her mind. A realisation that despite everything they had been through together, she had ended up alone. Shadowheart, Karlach, Wyll, all to Avernus in one fell swoop, Astarion fleeing as the sunlight cracked his porcelain flesh. And Gale…
Devorah sighed, remembering the few words he had spoken to her after all had happened, how the familiar sight of pain had clung on to him despite the orb’s stabilisation so long ago. He’d bid his farewells and sluggishly walked towards the city, his steps heavy, much like her own. So much went unsaid, so many glances at one another’s lips ignored, so many masks and walls to avoid hurting each other, just as they’d been hurt in the past.
She left the docks, a sense of weariness motioning her forward. Wine upon her lips was all she could think of, a scarlet swirl as it would pour into the glass, much like the trail of blood that lay upon the cobbles, a trail from the spot Gale had said his farewells. It took a moment for her mind to catch up with the sight, a realisation that his pain was not simply Mystra’s unfair consequences but that of something severely wrong and a man who would never wish to be a burden to another.
Her slow steps upon the stones of the streets soon became a hurried pace as spattered traces of blood grew to crimson pools down shadowed alleyways. Her body ached with each quickened turn around the corners, but it mattered little as panic filled her lungs with the images of what she would find. If she had allowed him to leave with nothing but a simple goodbye, for him to then die alone… If only she had taken a chance, refused to lose herself in the cool embrace of another, then maybe she too could have beaten the God of Death with her loved one at her side. She rushed through groups of survivors, knowing she had to find him, hoping that he had not drawn his last breath and been taken from her for good.
---
It was in a small dimly lit room at the Elfsong Tavern that she found him; his purple robes tossed aside with little regard for where they landed, now stained with the blood from his own hands. He sat exhausted at the foot of the small bed, his fingertips sticky with coagulated blood and fumbling with the ties of his shirt as he tried to get to the wound and see the damage.
She was quickly upon him, moving his hands aside with ease, feeling the way he tried to prevent her from helping.
“It’s nothing, my dear,” he weakly spoke. Colour had drained from his cheeks, his normal slight tan now growing close to that of Astarion’s pallor.
“Don’t bullshit me, I’ve got eyes.” She tugged at the strings that had become knotted throughout the day, wishing he could have just worn buckles like the rest of them. “What even happened? Why didn’t you say anything? How could you…?” She was growing emotional with each second that passed, fear taking over. She wouldn’t, couldn’t, lose him.
He gripped her arm, the shades of red transferring to her own shirt. “A cultist as we climbed the tower. I didn’t notice…” His words were growing slower, quieter as the light faded from his eyes.
“It’s okay, you’re going to be okay. Just stay with me…”
The dark blood was seeping through Gale’swrap shirt, a crimson weed growing amongst the fields of cotton lying on his abdomen. The sweat beaded on his brow and all Devorah could do was hold her hands to the wound, a quiet prayer hung unspoken on her lips, so many desperate words unshared between them never to be uttered. His eyes grew heavy in front of her, his breaths slowing to quiet gasps. She gave up on the shirt, instead pressing her hands to the wound, the whispered prayer finally emerging with the faint glow under her fingertips. It wasn’t much, but it would keep him with her and for that, at least, she was thankful.
---
It had taken all Devorah’s strength to get Gale into the bed after he had lost consciousness. She’d managed the healing spell to keep him stable but knew with no potions available and her own spells limited to speaking with animals, speaking with the dead, anything but something useful, she’d struggle to get him back on his feet. She finally untied his shirt, revealing his chest beneath it, the dried blood staining his skin to a deep pink. The bleeding had thankfully stopped with the spell, but the remnants of the incident remained. She peeled back the fabric, finding the wound to his side, the deep cut that would surely leave a scar upon his pristine flesh.
Taking a cloth and a bowl of warm water, she perched herself on the edge of the cotton bedsheets next to him. Her voice was quiet, not wanting to wake him, but hoping that on some level he might hear her and find comfort. “Gale…Whatever are we going to do with you?” The cloth took some of the staining from his skin and she gave a gentle smile, seeing his normal colour slowly returning to him.
She took in a deep breath as she worked, relieving the tension in her shoulders. As she placed the cloth in the bowl, she saw as the water turned a murky red. “I always thought that if me and you got together, the first time I’d see you with your shirt off would be after too many glasses of wine and some of that poetry you dabbled in.” The cloth was wrung out before being placed back on his skin, a rogue drop of water running down the side of his stomach onto the bed.
“Always quite liked your poetry… Made me feel alive…” She chuckled to herself quietly. “Sorry, poor use of words there.” Devorah looked over her work, the way his wound was still angry but now no longer running the risk of infection. She’d need to collect some potions, but at least he wouldn’t die whilst she was away. Or at least she hoped he wouldn’t. Placing the damp cloth and bowl to the side, she glanced over at him before standing to leave. “Gale,” she hesitated. Would he hear her words? Were they worth saying when death still skulked in the shadows? “Nevermind… Just, don’t go anywhere.”
---
It was hours before Gale woke again, his colour back to normal and the wound mostly healed. He felt the sting on his side, the ache of his muscles as he tried to pull himself up on the bed to sit up and gather his surroundings. Trying to retrace his steps proved difficult as he thought back to the docks and the winding trek to the tavern.
“You shouldn’t be trying to move, you know.”
He looked around for the voice; the world spinning a little with the movement. “Devorah?”
She approached him, a glass of cold water in her hand. “Yeah. How’re you feeling?”
“Like one that has been caught in the cascade of a Bibberbang explosion.”
She smiled at his answer. “Well, you’re still as articulate as ever.” Devorah passed him the water, her fingertips lightly brushing his as she handed over the glass. “Here, drink this. It’ll get rid the aftertaste of the potions.”
Gale had been curious what the obscure taste was upon his tongue, one of balsam and berries, sickly sweet. He grasped the water, savouring it in his mouth before swallowing and letting out a satisfied exhale. “You saved me.”
“It was just water,” she replied, dodging his true meaning, averting her gaze from him. His gratitude was not something she wanted. She would have walked through flames if it meant him living. She would have taken the orb from his chest and imbedded it in her own if it meant he could go on with his life.
“We both know that is not what I speak of. Devorah-”
“Gale,” she interrupted
“I love you.”
She lifted her head instantly, a hint of confusion on her face. “What did you say?”
He smiled softly, his fingertips raising up beneath her chin. “Something that I should have said to you many moons ago.” He should have said it under conjured starlight, or before they entered the High Hall. He should have said it with every breath that escaped him. “Devorah, I love you.”
For a moment she was speechless, her own words trapped in her throat as if saying them would dispel the illusion before her. They replayed in her head, the sweet melody of his voice once again calming her soul as he had done so many times before. The God of Death had once again been beaten. The tiptoed path upon a near-death precipice halted as a choice was made, as the love she had once dreamt of under glistening stars became finally within her grasp. “I love you too, Gale,” she whispered.
Warm lips found one another; the taste of healing potions shared between them, as a buried yearning was released. As Devorah moved herself on to Gale’s lap, he let out a soft groan.
“Careful, my love…”
Tender kisses were placed down his neck, down the weaving trails left by the orb. She traced her fingers gently down his body, each one working as if he were the rare tomes of a forbidden library. She could smell the traces of ink from his books still upon him, as if he still stood in his tower in Waterdeep. Each touch of his skin upon lips brought her a fresh wave of life that she had never felt before, a new longing for more of him. She would not lose herself; she would find him, and she would be with him in full.
Her kisses worked further down his body, through the soft bed of chest hair, her legs shifting down until she was sitting in front of him. “Let me love you, as you deserve to be loved.”
There was a moment of hesitation from Gale, his need to serve, his need to give, trying to burst through. He wanted to provide her with everything he’d been unable to, to make up for lost nights where he’d watched her depart too many times. He saw the love in eyes, felt as her hand trailed up his inner thigh, his touch starved body reacting with little regard for what his mind’s opinion was. All he could do was give a tentative nod.
Devorah’s hands came to the drawstrings of his trousers, a slow tug of each as she looked into his eyes. “Lie back, relax.”
Gale slid down slowly on the bed, his head still resting on the headboard to watch her. “Easy for you to say.”
She playfully smiled, pulling at his trousers and looking concerned as he winced with the rise of his hips. “Still in pain?”
“Nothing I’ve not felt before.”
“That’s not how it should be, though.” She ran her hand along his leg, a comforting palm to ease his nerves.
He sighed deeply with the sensation of her hand; his body exposed to her completely. There had been no wine, no poetry or charm for this moment. This was simply what she wanted to do, and he was struggling to accept that she could ever want this with him. As her flushed lips caught the skin of his stomach, he leant his head back, his eyes closing to fight past the overwhelming pound of his heart rate. It was as her hand came around the base of his cock that he let out an involuntary gasp and looked down at her. “You’re…”
“Do you trust me?”
His voice was almost a whisper. “Yes.”
As her heated mouth wrapped around him in full, there was little Gale could do than release a desperate sound. His thoughts ran wild, the sensation, the vulnerability, the love and devotion she was willing to give him after all that has happened. The pain in his side meant little to him as wave after wave of pleasure warmed his body. His hands found her shoulder, a grip on her skin to ground himself in reality. “Devorah…”
She continued to move, her tongue running up his length greedily. She heard her name, felt his grasp. “Hm?” she replied, not removing herself from what she had longed for in so long.
Words escaped him. The world around him abandoned him only to her touch, to the wordless declaration of love she gave to him, that she wanted to give to him. He could not speak, he could only release the long-held moans as her tongue ran along his shaft, as her moistened lips held him close. He glanced down, a quick glimpse of her watching his pleasure pushing him to the edge almost instantaneously. It had been so long since he had felt anything like that, long nights alone with his own touch, nothing in comparison to the way she touched him. Gale was overwhelmed, the sight of her, her eyes on his, her subtle smile curving with her lips as he clasped tighter to her shoulder. He wanted to fight it, wanted each second to span into infinite moments of enjoyment, but there was little he could do as all self-control shattered with her love.
Her pace quickened, her depth increasing, and his head fell back, a burning light of white in front of his eyes as his release hit, warm and unstoppable. He didn’t feel her move to his side as the room continued spinning around him, as the shadow of death was quickly replaced by nothing but the afterglow of life. It was as his heart rate slowed that he heard her speaking, a quiet admittance of feelings, the first that would come for many years to come.
“Thank you for not dying.” Devorah uttered, pausing for a second and placing her head on his head, listening to the way his heart beat as it slowly steadied. “And for making me feel alive.”

Hello! So sorry if I’m bothering you, but do you still accept Astarion x Tav requests? If so. I have a prompt for you if you care to read about it.
Basically, you know that moment in Astarion and Tav’s relationship where Astarion fully opens up to Tav about his trauma and his feelings regarding intimacy? Let’s say in this scenario, this Tav realizes that they feel the exact same way about intimacy after Astarion describes his revelations about it. Tav and Astarion have similar trauma and handled it in similar, but also vastly different ways: Astarion used intimacy as a survival tool and a manipulation tactic, and Tav used intimacy as a means of keeping those they love interested, as they feel they have no other redeeming qualities that would make people stay.
I think it’d be funny for two clowns to realize that neither ever wanted to bang each other yet and both just wanted a hug. It’s also touching, two abused souls finding comfort in each other and coming to terms with their boundaries.
Of course if such a scenerio is not one you are comfortable writing for, I completely understand! I couldn’t find your guidelines so I’m taking the risk and asking.
Your writing is spectacular by the way. I hope you have a nice day!
Yes, hi, hello, I LOVE the scene you're talking about so I decided to expand on it slightly for this prompt! We stan consent and boundaries in this house 😔✊
TW for vague mentions of past sexual abuse
Word Count: 1.3k
Enjoy!

In the quiet recesses of your memory, you held the echoes of a time when you had walked down the path that society prescribed, where passion was deemed a necessity and love an excuse for physical intimacy. But as you gazed into your past, you realized that the fire within you had been a mere illusion, a flicker of conformity.
Your heart longed for emotional intimacy, in the gentle touch of a hand or soft-spoken words was where you found the depth of affection you so desperately sought. It was in these moments that you felt most yourself, when your inner conflicts melted away and you embraced love in the way that you wanted to.
So, you succumbed to the pressures of a world that insisted on desire in exchange for such affections. You danced in the moonlight, your body a vessel for another’s longing, and yet, each touch had felt like a borrowed emotion. Your past was a stage where you had performed, but the script was never truly your own.
The turning point arrived like the soft whisper of truth in the night. In a moment of self-reflection that you thought might never come, and from the person that you least expected.
“Do you have a moment?” Astarion asked, softly adding, “I... I think we need to talk.”
You knew that tone all too well: apprehension from one that you hadn’t had sex with for a while. You braced yourself, swallowing a dry lump down your throat and turned to him with a smile.
“Are you alright?” you asked, already knowing full well what the answer was.
“Oh yes, I’m fine,” he quickly said with a grin that fell just as fast. “I just... feel awful.”
You sighed through your nose and crossed your arms, expecting the honeyed words, the seduction tactics, and then the demands.
“Look, I had a plan,” Astarion started. “A nice, simple plan – seduce you, sleep with you, manipulate your feelings so you’d never turn on me.”
You raise an eyebrow as he chuckles nervously while fiddling with his hands. You weren’t quite used to seeing him so... tense. Astarion was usually the suave, calm and entrancing type that swept you off your feet with his charms and dramatic flair.
But right now he looked like some scorned child that got caught with his hand in the sweet jar.
“It was easy-”
You frowned.
“Instinctive,” he swiftly corrected. “Habits from two hundred years of charming people kicked in. All you had to do... was fall for it. And all I had to do was not fall for you.”
Ripples of anxiety pulsed through you as you observed his subtle shifts in body language – how his eyes darted away from you, the way his lips twitched up into a forced smile. You dissected every word, convinced that this was his way of an impending farewell.
“...Which is where my nice, simple plan... fell apart.”
You blinked in surprise while he gestured at you as if he was at a loss for words.
“You... you’re incredible,” he breathed. “And... you deserve something real. I want us... to be something real.”
You struggled to find your voice, to address the storm brewing in your heart. You longed to confront the unknown, to seek the truth, to bridge the gap between your turbulent emotions and quiet expectation. More than anything, you were just confused. The presumption of sex loomed like a thunderhead in your mind. Did he... truly see you for more than that?
Nobody else had. Why should he be any different?
You had to find the strength to confront the tempest before it engulfed you for good.
“So, the... the nights we s-spent together,” you grimaced as you stuttered, hating how pathetic you sounded. “They didn’t mean anything to you?”
“Of course they did!” Astarion moved to lay a comforting hand on you, but his arm stayed motionless in the air for a moment before dropping to his side, almost in defeat. “That’s the problem, or... part of it.”
Your mouth soured with the taste of bile. “Were you even... attracted to me? Or was it all a lie?”
“Of course I was attracted to you, I mean, just look at you!”
Try as you might, you couldn’t help the heat that crept along your cheeks.
“You’re a vision. And you’re so much more than that.”
Your heart raced; your surprise palpable. You never imagined anyone seeing you as more than a lover, to be more than just a physical desire, but as someone to be cherished.
He bit his lip as he glanced down briefly, his fangs nearly piercing the skin. “Being... close to someone – any kind of intimacy – was something I performed to lure people back for him.”
Astarion’s voice was laced with venom at the mere mention of his old master, and you wanted nothing more than to comfort him, but you restrained yourself, allowing him to continue.
“Even though I know things between us are different, being with someone still feels... tainted,” he said. “Still brings up those feelings of disgust and loathing.”
His eyes locked onto yours, and you could see how afraid he was. How scared that his confession will shatter the delicate equilibrium of your relationship, transforming it into something unfamiliar.
“I don’t know how else to be with someone,” he admitted. “No matter how much I’d like to.”
The stars seemed to align for you as he looked at you, through you, with his eyes glazed over. You wanted him to understand that love was not confined to lust and desire, but rather it was an intricate mosaic of trust, companionship and unwavering support.
You wanted to cradle his hopes and dreams, nurture his ambitions and rejoice in his happiness. You were the keeper of his secrets, and the safe haven of his vulnerabilities.
“Astarion,” you said. “I care about you. Deeply.”
“Really?” he muttered, his eyes crinkling into disbelief.
“Yes,” you felt a shiver down your spine, a chill that had nothing to do with the cooling temperature. “This might sound strange but... may I hold you?”
Astarion’s surprise was evident, but his eyes soften as he observes the mixture of anxiety and hope on your face.
“I... I would like that,” he quietly responds, his voice nearly a mere whisper.
With a tender yet unexpected smile, you wrap your arms around him, embracing him tightly.
Astarion’s body tenses up and for a moment, he just stands there, uncertainty etched across his face. It was as though the world had momentarily paused, leaving him in a state of sweet confusion. He hesitates, as though he’s unsure of how to respond. Then, with a reluctant but genuine warmth, he slowly brings his arms around you. His embrace is cautious at first, like a hesitant deer testing the waters of a lake.
As you hold each other, a gentle breeze rustles through the leaves of the surrounding trees and his grip gradually begins to tighten as though he’s afraid of letting you go, his head burying further into your shoulder as if to get lost within you.
It was in this simple act, in the unspoken acceptance of your affection, that Astarion realised the beauty of your ability to break down barriers, and it was in this moment that the evolution of your understanding came with a newfound freedom. No longer did either of you need to force yourself into moulds that didn’t fit.
Your relationship transformed into a profound connection built upon trust, and the conversations that lasted long into the night. Your love was no longer tangled in the constraints of physicality; it soared in the uncharted skies of emotional intimacy.

OOOO 1 (don't leave) and 21 (collapse) mayhaps,,,,,,,
HEHEHEHE THANK UUUUUUU <3
Summary: i know people would probably assume i'd write something dramatic for this one like the previous prompt, but no. My brain looked at these, went through several ideas and then finally decided on the final version: pillow talk. And it's even in a funny location.
No warnings, though there is one (1) dirty joke by Klara + the last few paragraphs are a bit suggestive. Anyway, enjoy 🤍
Klara watched as Tobias's finger brushed her palm, its arm softly wrapped around her side, feeling its soft breaths on her back. She'd think it was sleeping, if not for the occasional movements and feeling it blinking every now and then.
She heard its voice, which was a bit groggy, either from not drinking enough water or from what they were doing, say softly. "You're oddly quiet."
"Hmm... Maybe I've just been enjoying the way your thumb is massaging my hand. Or your eyelashes brushing against my back. Or your nose between my shoulder blades."
"Mmhmm," she felt Tobias move a little, its lips kissing different parts of her back, as if moving on a curvy path towards her shoulder. Finally, it leaned its head on her shoulder, and murmured, "There's clearly something else, too." It took her hand gently and moved it close to its face, kissing her fingers. "What's wrong, honey?"
Klara smiled at its voice and cupped its cheek. "I don't know, just a bit lost in thoughts. I-" she sighed and caressed its cheek, "I don't know. It's like I'm suddenly realizing that I've lost so many things? Can't say anything to my family, hell, I think Elliott would happily tell my whereabouts to corporates for a free lunch, which he already gets from them. Can't tell anything to our friends either, just so they won't be in danger. All the resources, all the connections, all the things we had... But, you know? At the same time I feel like I have no limits and no one is controlling me. I don't know..." she paused, "One part of me feels like my whole world just, well, collapsed?And the other feels like I'm completely free for the first time ever."
"Mm, I know what you mean," it said softly, "Weird feeling in stomach as if you feel very sick, and at the same time feeling like you're able to do whatever you want. These two fighting between each other and drowning everything else in your mind. Gets even worse when you're all alone."
"Yeah... Though," she said, "there's also this hopeful feeling? It appears especially when you're somewhere close."
Tobias smiled against her shoulder and kissed her neck. "Glad to hear there's at least some kind of usefulness from having me around."
"Oh, stop it, you dumbass."
"I love it when you call me that," it giggled, "But, um, I guess it's helpful to have someone's shoulder to lean on."
Klara smirked and turned around to face it. "And what a comfortable shoulder it is, by the way," she said and buried her face in its neck.
"Well, I don't know about that, but," it gently caressed her back with its hand, "just know that it's always available for you."
"Mmh, of course."
"And Melody's there for you, too."
"Hmm, yeah. Though I already have one pussy near me..."
Tobias blushed. "Damn, okay then, käresta," it kissed her head. "Oh! By the way, I have something for you. Hang on..." it murmured and rolled to the other side of the bed, and tried to reach for its overalls laying on the floor.
"Mmh, don't leave yet..."
"I'm not, I'm not," it took something out of the pocket and moved back next to Klara, quickly tucked itself in a blanket. "Fuck, it's cold."
Klara pulled it closer and kissed its face. "Huh, is it now? Their AC seems to work very well." She looked at its hands. "What do you have there, anyway?"
"Hehe, well," Tobias sat up, "I know how upset you were when your necklace broke, so I-" it opened its palm, showing a silver necklace between its fingers, a snowy plover charm hanging on it, "-ordered a similar one. I'm actually not hundred percent sure I got the bird perfectly right, but, well, I tried my best. I, um, I hope you like it."
"Sunshine, honey, you didn't have to..." she sat up in front of it and kissed it, "you really didn't have to."
"It has always been important to you. And, well, like you said, you have lost...many things. So I thought that maybe I should get you at least something back," it reached its hands and put her necklace on her neck.
"God, Tobias, if this is another one of your 'I feel guilty for everything' thing, then-"
"It's not, I promise," it murmured and cupped her face, "I do think it's partly my fault, but this is simply because I know how much you cared about this necklace."
"Honey, this is... this is a perfect gift. Thank you so much," she murmured and kissed it all over its face.
"Mmhmm, no problem, darling," Tobias leaned closer, "Now, what do you think of, say, laying in bed for a little longer. Or-"
"Or having another round?"
"I was going to ask about checking on our cat to see if she isn't lonely, but honestly, why not?"
"God, you're adorable," she murmured and gently pushed it down on the bed. While leaning down, she stopped for a monent, quickly glanced out of the window, and said quietly, "You know, I've always thought that being out in space would have some kind of special feeling."
"Yeah, it's verh boring, isn't it? No special feelings or 'wow' moments, not counting the first time you look outside," it turned its head towards the window, "just darkness and white dots. Rocks, if you're lucky."
Klara nodded and leaned down. "Guess we'll have to make it interesting all by ourselves."
"You got it, honey."

(@queen--kenobi) Perspective Flip: I’ll write a scene from [that fic] from another character’s point-of-view
BUT
Gimme Tyland’s perspective on that mini fic where Rhaenyra catches him and Daenys hehehe
The Drabble In Question
Her hand was in the crook of Tyland’s elbow as they walked through the gardens, but it was Daenys who controlled where they went. She dragged him along by his arm, constantly glancing away from where she was intent to bring him in order to look up at his face. Each time she did she started giggling anew, and her smile was giddy and full of affection when her lilac eyes landed on him. Tyland felt it too, but not enough to throw all caution to the wind like she was seemingly willing to do.
“Daenys, we weren’t supposed to be alone. You could at least try to pretend to make it look like we are waiting for Cassana to join us, or that you are disappointed at her absence.” His voice was quiet as he spoke. They were alone in the gardens, or at least at this end of them, but that did not mean he needed to ignore their decision to keep all of this secret.
“No one is here to see.” She whispered back, leaning into him as she continued to lead him along.
“For now,” Tyland paused briefly, the nagging curiosity having chipped away at his resolve until he had to address it, “and why did you lie about Lord Lyonel’s daughter joining us? It seems unnecessary.” Lying came as easy as breathing for His Grace's second daughter, half truths and tears and pretty words to distract and placate so she could play the part of the ignored, frivolous maiden for those who did not care to know her deeply. Never with him though, at least not since they had grown close from his own sincerity. Tyland received the truth, and more importantly her reasons.
“I have only recently reached my majority. It would be unseemly for the king's now eligible daughter to be alone with an unmarried man who has taken no vows of chastity, prior friendship or not. If it is all three of us though, then it is just silly little Princess Daenys seeking companionship without a care in the world. You cannot touch Cassana without risking the wrath of Ser Harwin, and you cannot very well deflower a princess while her dearest friend is watching.” The explanation was matter-of-fact and so easily rambled off that she'd probably come up with it long before she sought him out that morning. A small measure of pride swelled in his chest, warm and rushing through his veins like molten gold. It was special being privy to what laid underneath the batting white lashes and the giggles and the put upon hysterics, secret proof of the love they hid away from the world to keep safe and secure from the prying eyes of the court until such a time it was convenient to reveal. Assuming a convenient time came.
“Sound reasoning.”
“Don’t I always have that?” Her voice rose with her self satisfaction, all too pleased with her own strength of mind to continue with her carefully planned subtlety.
“Daenys!” Her name came out as a warning hiss, Tyland’s voice barely above a whisper as he tried to prompt her towards silence once more. She merely went back to giggling, her eyes squinting and her nose scrunching as she shifted her hold from his elbow to his hand, holding it in both of hers as she pulled him behind one of the hedgerows lining the walking path.
“Daenys, someone will hear us.”
She leaned against one of the trees, a coy smile on her lips as she posed herself beneath the branches heavy with pink and white blossoms. “And what are you going to do to make sure I am quiet enough that no one does?”
A grin split across his face as he closed the distance between them. He would give into her goading, this time it was charming. Tyland cupped her cheek as he bent down to kiss her. Daenys pressed her lips more firmly against his, humming softly against his mouth as she got exactly what she wanted. She was soft and eager and at times perhaps a bit too willing to use teeth, but it was wonderful all the same.
Tyland rested his forehead against Daenys’s when he pulled back, and he bit back a chuckle as she let out a little huff of displeasure. She pulled back slightly, just enough he could see her pouting.
“Why did you stop?”
“We have to breathe some time.”
“I’ve breathed. Kiss me again.”
Tyland let himself laugh this time, his smile growing wider as his hand trailed from her cheek to her jaw, his thumb coming to rest at the corner of her full lips. “As my princess commands.”
Daenys’s fingers tangled in his hair as he kissed her again, holding him fast against her so that this time he could not pull back before she was ready. His hands drifted from her face, trailing down her shoulders and her sides to rest on her hips. Daenys shivered at his touch, and her teeth grazed his lower lip as his fingers sank into the meat of her hips through the soft, lavender silk of her gown.
“Ser Tyland!”
His eyes shot open at the call of his name and his face flushed, panic settling in and setting his insides on fire as he clumsily tried to disentangle himself from the embrace. There was no way to make this look different, the most he could hope for was smoothing things over with Daenys’s sister and trying to make her see the reason behind their secrecy.
“Princess, this isn’t what you think! We–”
“Oh, it isn’t? Well then, Ser Tyland, what am I looking at if not my father’s Master of Ships taking advantage of my sister’s loneliness at losing his predecessor’s daughter so that he can rise above his station while–”
Daenys let out a forlorn wail, all but shrieking as tears bubbled up in her pale eyes. For the first time in a long time, Tyland couldn't tell if they were a tactic to calm tempers and get someone to her side, or if they were real. He wanted to reach out and comfort her, but Princess Rhaenyra pushed past him. She shot him a pointed glare, fury in her gaze, and pulled her younger sister to her.
Daenys shoved her away, fat tears now rolling down her cheeks as the other princess looked at her in wounded disbelief. Her voice wavered as she spoke, but the tears did not make her words any less sharp. “I thought you loved me!”
An expression like she'd just been slapped briefly passed over Princess Rhaenyra’s face, hurt and indignation before she snapped at her sister, “I–of course I do! That is why I am protecting you!”
“I do not need protection!”
“You obviously do! I would not have my sister used to–”
“I am not being used!” Daenys started crying harder, teetering on the edge of falling into true hysterics that would see her breathing coming in desperate gasps, “I brought him here, this was my idea! Rhaenyra, I love him!” She pointed at Tyland, her arm shaking as she sobbed.
He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close as she practically wilted against him. Daenys buried her face into his chest, wailing again as tears soaked into his doublet. Tyland looked up from his princess only briefly, giving her elder sister an awkward, apologetic smile. He hadn’t wanted things to escalate like this, but with Daenys and Rhaenyra both involved in the situation it had probably been inevitable.
The mask of anger on the Princess of Dragonstone’s face began to crack, and Tyland turned his attention back to Daenys. He kissed the top of her head as he smoothed her bouncy curls. Her fingers curled into his green velvet cloak, desperately clinging to him as he quietly whispered to her about how she would be alright, how this could be fixed and smoothed over, how nothing would happen to him. Or at least he hoped nothing would.
Daenys shifted, her cheek pressed against his chest so she could look in her sister's direction. It was only a moment later that she let go of his cloak, freeing herself from his gentle hold to rush to Princess Rhaenyra. Tyland watched as she took her sister's face in her hands, wiping away tears that had begun to fall from her eyes. He looked down, lips pressed together tightly as he tried to figure out what to do with himself. Tyland felt awkward, as if he were the one intruding now, but he couldn't leave.
“Rhaenyra–”
“One of us should be happy, I suppose.”
“I do not want you to be upset! I just…” her sentence trailed off, and there was a beat of careful, contemplative silence before Daenys continued, “I appreciate your intent. If I had not been the one to start everything, if Tyland was untrue with his intentions, I would hope that my elder sister would save me. You were always braver than I am, and you’re very quick witted. After everything it…it makes sense you were so upset, and that you wanted to help me.”
“But you don’t need it.” Princess Rhaenyra’s reply was soft and sullen, fully lost in the need for importance she'd found herself drowning in ever since the birth of Prince Aegon.
“I will always need your help, Rhaenyra! And I shall gladly welcome it because I love you.”
Tyland hazarded a glance back up from the ground and at the princesses just as Daenys released her sister's face to press a kiss to her tear stained cheek. Princess Rhaenyra cut her eyes towards him, catching his watching of something he was no doubt supposed to ignore.
He smiled at her, clasping his hands behind his back as he bowed his head. Tyland wasn't sure if it was deference, or his being trapped in the awkwardness of his boyhood before he'd figured out the types of interaction that pleased people. All he was sure of, was that it was exceedingly more comfortable to not look at Princess Rhaenyra right now. Not when her pale purple eyes bored into his being to scrutinize everything there.
“Try to be a bit more careful, next time. If your affair is exposed again, it may not be someone so forgiving who finds you two.”
Relief washed over Tyland, and he looked back up again. His eyes landed on Daenys, and he kept them there. She was easy to look at, a beacon to pull him out of the familiar, sometimes off-putting, awkwardness.
“Oh, we will, we will! I promise, Rhaenyra! And–and you aren’t going to tell anyone?!”
Princess Rhaenyra let out a singular chuckle under her breath, an easy smile on her face as she plucked a leaf from Daenys’s hair. She spun it in her fingers, working the stem back and forth a few times before releasing it to let it flutter to the ground. “I would spare the court the details of how shameless and no doubt disgustingly sugary you two are.”
Daenys gushed her thanks, repeating herself a few times and talking in circles. He couldn't blame her, though. Tyland saw Princess Rhaenyra step closer to him from the corner of his eye, and he turned his attention towards her as she brought her hands behind her back and looked up at him.
He coughed into his fist before bowing, albeit probably a bit more shallow than was socially correct. “Thank you, princess. Your forgiveness and discretion are most gracious.”
“My sister is incredibly fragile, Ser. Keep that in mind so that you do not hurt her in any way, because if you do it is not His Grace or the Kingsguard you need to be wary of. I imagine dragon fire hurts worse than being gelded.”
Tyland took a slow, steadying breath in through his nose. If he could just be as sincere with her as he had been with Daenys, everything would be alright. Princess Rhaenyra would see. “Daenys will continue to see nothing but the utmost gentleness and care, princess. She deserves nothing but my best.”
His eyes drifted past her after he responded, landing on Daenys once more. He smiled as he watched her pick out the leaves that had gotten stuck in her hair while they kissed, swishing and flouncing as she plucked the foliage from her curls to throw to the ground. She huffed at ther gentle descent, but continued on as she was regardless. It was endearing.
“Good day, Ser Tyland.”
“Princess Rhaenyra.” He bowed again as she breezed past him, going back to her walk as if nothing had happened. He was grateful for that, it boded well for this second person who knew of his and Daenys’s relationship.
“Let me help with that.” Tyland went back to his princess's side, plucking the last two leaves from her hair as she finally stilled in her busy movements. When he released them, Daenys spun back around to face him, and raised herself up onto her toes to quickly kiss him on the mouth.
She pulled away before he could kiss her back, grinning up at him as she giggled. “Thank you, my brave and noble knight.”
“Brave and noble? I hardly did anything.”
“Hardly did anything? Just now, you very calmly faced down a dragon for me.”
He exhaled sharply through his nose, the breath holding back the laughter that would have come otherwise. “Considering that dragon is your sister, I would say you've made the task of handling them very easy for me. Regular exposure and all that.”
Daenys kissed him again, longer and just as eager as she had been before they were interrupted. When she pulled back again, she was looking up at him through her lashes and smiling just as coyly as when she'd goaded him onto kissing her. “And how else does my handsome knight handle dragons?”

for the prompts list - cinnamon sweet with Lucien please and thank you :)
Here you go! Loads of fluff and Lucien being Lucien so I hope you like it! 😘
It’s that time of the year Lucien would love to forget all together. The leaves have turned and fallen, the harvests have passed and all is in a slow state of decay. To think he once lived in a perpetual state of autumn seems a different life altogether, and one he would prefer to keep dead and buried. He’s really grown to hate autumn with a passion and he truly can’t wait until winter comes creeping in. At least frozen wastes haunting shadows bring more comfort than what he endured. Yet here you are, wrapped in your knits, wrapped him in them too, excited for the yellows and reds and oranges, the smell of autumn at its peak, the fresh harvests and festivals that accompany it. Here you are loving everything he’s avoided for so long. He doesn’t have the heart to tell you. If anything he hopes that perhaps through you he can endure and grow to like the season again and not feel like he slips into depression every time he spirals into those dark memories. It’s not your fault and he doesn’t want to spoil your fun. Maybe you can teach him how to love the autumn glow once more.
“Remind me again why you insist in being here, outside in the cold when we could be warm and cozy inside by the hearth instead?” Lucien asks when you sit him down on the wooden bench in the garden. The majority has wilted, or been prepared to endure the coming winter, and while somewhat eery it is still beautiful in its own way. The wind blows the remaining leaves from the trees bit by bit casting a blanket upon the ground making it impossible to distinguish path from grass and unmarked flowerbeds. You hold two ceramic mugs in your hands when you take a seat next to him. Though your proximity does not quite transfer heat, he still feels warmer with you there.
“Because, my dear Lucien, I want you to experience this properly.” He raises a questioning eyebrow but you are persistent and push the mugs into his hands. Completely at a loss of what to do with them he holds them. The contents seem to be milk. Just milk. He expected something like a tea maybe but the mugs are cold.
“What now?” He asks when you look at him as if he’s supposed to know what to do now.
“I need you to heat them up.” You chirp excitedly. A soft smile graces his lips but quickly turns cocky as it often does.
“Glad to know you keep me around as your personal heater and servant. Shall it be steaming, boiling or evaporated, my dearest?” You cross your arms. Normally he would flick your nose playfully when you puff but he’s half sure you’ll kill him if he drops this mug so he refrains and instead pecks your nose and does as he’s told. Your crossed arms slack and the flush to your cheeks certainly isn’t because of the cold air.
“You have plenty of other uses too.” You tease back reaching for the box you’d brought. He’s not entirely sure how you managed to carry this all. You open the box and inside reveals two chocolate orbs. “I know you like hot chocolate but this one’s special.” You gently drop the orbs in the steaming hot milk each. Slowly but surely the chocolate begins to melt and inside, fluffy little clouds emerge floating on the surface. Lucien looks confused.
“Dare I ask what this poison is you’re trying to feed me?”
“They’re marshmallows. They happen to go very well with hot chocolate but there’s one more secret ingredient-“ You reach into your pocket and take the vial you’d stolen from the pantry.
“Unconditional love and affection?” Lucien interrupts but you don’t miss a beat.
“-two more secret ingredients.” You correct yourself at his quip much to his amusement. You remove the lid from the vial of brown powder. Carefully you sprinkle a modest amount on top. When you do he catches on. Cinnamon. Curious.
“So you are trying to cover the smell and taste of poison.” You take one of the mugs from him and clasp it between your hands, cold fingers instantly warming. You scoff and roll your eyes.
“While poison is poetic I think a dagger through the heart after a passionate night is far more.” You deadpan taking a sip. Lucien shrugs in agreement.
“A satisfying end to be sure.” You snort and cough as your nose burns. The amusement in Lucien’s eyes is replaced by concern until you assure him you’re alright. “I think you might have mixed up the poisoned mug, love.” He pats your back as you recover and when you do he simply rubs circles allowing his hand to warm you and offer some relief.
“One way to find out.” Your voice is still hoarse but you’re alright and take another sip of your drink. Finally he takes his first sip. Closely you study his reaction. First it is intrigue; the way he does a double-take, then a hint of confusion trying to figure out his senses. Next comes consideration. A raised eyebrow as he takes a second sip. Then his shoulders relax and he leans back on the bench. He nods to himself and takes another big sip when he notices you staring.
“I take it you like it then?” You ask gingerly. He smiles and nods.
“It reminds me of you so yes.”
“How so?”
“You remind me of sweet things and cinnamon.” The flush to your cheeks darken. Cute. Of course he has to ruin the moment. Can’t let it get to your head. “You taste like it too.” This time you’re prepared though, unfazed you take another sip, rise to your feet and take a few steps away from him. You look over your shoulder, look him straight in the eye in a way that dares him to move. He knows he’s in trouble.
“Let’s keep it a special treat then. Wouldn’t want you to get sick of the taste.” Now it’s his time to choke on the sip he took. Not what he was expecting, and certainly not the sultry expression on your face as you sway your hips through the invisible garden path and back to the porch, one there you take one last sip, looking at him over the edge of your mug. You step inside leaving the door open behind you. Lucien does not need to be told twice. He downs the cinnamon hot chocolate, the taste lingering on his tongue and follows your tracks inside.

Set Up - Part 6
A/N: Well, well, well... here we are again. I won't ramble, but let's thank Rowaelin Month and @rowaelinscourt for prompting the completion of this chapter. BUT PLEASE NOTE TAGS ARE NOT WORKING
CW: Mild swearing and smut, of course
~ Set Up Masterlist ~
~~~~~
This time being apart felt different. Maybe seeing so much of each other had ruined what had been enjoying in such a carefree way for so long. Now, whenever Aelin thought of Rowan something twisted in her chest. That week brought them closer than they’d been in a long time and highlighted some things Aelin was missing in her life.
A boyfriend was the simplest way to put it, delving further would only lead to questions Aelin did not want to answer. She was being dramatic, due to her recent bout of being alone no doubt. Spending all that time together had left her spoiled and craving more. Rowan wasn’t the answer and not a consolation for her loneliness. He deserved better than that, better than her. He’d always talked about wanting a perfect little life, with a family and white picket fence to boot. Aelin couldn’t give him that. Their lives had split down two different paths that only crossed whenever fate was kind. For all parties involved it was the best way to leave. It was just fortunate that they had been found out.
Aelin had spent nearly a month screening her calls and messages from nearly everyone outside of work. Even though she had explicitly told her mother she didn’t want to talk about the situation between her and Rowan, Evalin Ashryver Galathynius was never one to give up. The innocent calls and texts that asked about work and how Aelin was doing always seemed to take a turn in his direction. It had got to the point that she just completely ignored any mention of relationship related things. Even her dad who tended to keep neutral ground had dropped a few hints here and there.
By far Aedion was the worst, mainly because he had gone and opened his fat mouth and blabbed to Lysandra about what he had seen. Her best friend turned cousin’s girlfriend had been begging for details, some of the obscene kind. Aelin had given over a few, just to placate her but then refused anymore. The more information she gave, the more likely it was to be used against her.
The hardest contact to filter through had been Rowan’s. There had been an obvious shift when it came to him and it was confusing to say the least. Aelin didn’t know if it was because they had been found out or if there had been a change in their dynamic, or if it was as simple as her missing him. Whatever it was, Aelin found herself pulling away. Rowan’s texts weren’t anything out of the ordinary. He sent through casual enquiries about how she was doing, frustrations about work and funny pictures to make her laugh. Aelin wasn’t replying as much as she usually did, but hopefully Rowan didn’t notice. He didn’t deserve to suffer for whatever was going on in Aelin’s head.
What had heightened every uncomfortable aspect was that work had been godsdamned awful. They had launched into planning the peak event season and everyone was working their asses off trying to come up with fresh ideas for the companies who employed them. Aelin was exhausted and left with very little brain power once she left work. She was drained and didn’t need work fraying the remaining threads of her personal life.
Aelin was in the middle of decompressing, sprawled out on her bed and eating an unhealthy amount of chocolate. Since arriving home maybe half an hour ago she had steadily paced herself and only eaten half a block while she mindlessly scrolled through videos on social media. If cute animals and spicy book snippets hadn’t been there to distract her she might have downed the entire thing by now and felt sick for her reckless efforts. When a call for a video chat flashed up on her screen Aelin nearly dropped her phone right on her face.
Once the risk of injury was removed Aelin registered who was calling. It was Elide, someone who wouldn’t be full of prying questions which was a welcome relief. Aelin hit the accept button before it rang out.
“Hello, hello,” Aelin said, trying to sound cheerful but it didn’t quite get there.
“Good evening, I need your help.” Trust Elide to cut straight to the point.
“With what?” With her interest piqued, Aelin sat up.
“I have a date and I don’t know what to wear,” Elide said.
“Ah, okay. Show me your options.”
This was a common occurrence and Aelin waited as Elide set her phone up to get a full body angle. She disappeared from the frame for a moment before returning, dressed in a fluffy robe and holding three outfits on coat hangers.
“Option one,” Elide held up a knee length, dark purple dress to her body. “Two.” The second dress was all black and form fitting. It was one of Elide’s riskier outfits and she almost hadn’t bought it, and it took both Aelin and Lysandra insisting she looked drop dead gorgeous in it for her to buy it. “And three.” Dress three was in light blue with a fitted bodice and puffy sleeves.
“Okay, these are three completely different vibes. What are we actually going for?” Aelin asked.
With a heavy sigh, Elide sank onto her bed. “I don’t know.”
She tried the pragmatic approach. “Well, what are you doing?”
“Dinner first, and then we’re going to the movies. But the fancy ones with the recliners,” Elide explained.
“Option two is out because half the night he won’t even be able to see it and it’s a waste of an outfit,” Aelin said.
“But I look so good in it,” Elide protested.
“Yes, that’s why it’s worth saving,” Aelin rebutted.
“Okay, you’re right. So, purple or blue?” Elide held up the remaining options.
Aelin thought for a moment, eyes darting between the two dresses. “Purple. The blue is a little short and you don't want that scratchy fabric on your thighs.”
“Gods, you’re right,” Elide said. “This is why we’re friends.”
Aelin laughed. “The only reason. So, who is this hot date?”
At this distance from the camera it was hard to tell but Aelin could have sworn Elide blushed. “We’ll see how this date goes and then I’ll tell you.”
“Elide Lochan, a woman of mystery,” Aelin teased.
“Stay on while I get dressed,” Elide said, disappearing from view. “We haven’t caught up in a hot minute.”
“We haven’t.” The air left Aelin’s lungs as she heavily flopped down on the bed. “I’ve been so busy with work and stuff I just feel like I have no time.”
“Aw, sweetie. That sounds like no fun at all,” Elide’s voice was full of sympathy.
Aelin left out the constant badgering of her family and the extra weight that was adding to everything, and also the weird sense of loneliness she hadn’t felt since she had first moved to Rifthold. Those were things she didn’t want her overly perceptive friend’s commentary on.
“You’ll have to have enough fun for the two of us,” Aelin said. She was about to complain about work some more when a message popped up at the top of her screen. Her heart skipped, or maybe it was her stomach, it happened so suddenly Aelin couldn’t determine which part of her body was doing summersaults. The text was short and succinct, and so perfectly Rowan.
>> I’m coming to Rifthold this weekend. See you then.
He would be in her city, in less than 48 hours. Like always, there was no question of whether or not they would see each other. They had been at this for so long it was presumed without question for them to meet up and do what they did best. A text like this usually led to excitement and thrilling anticipation, and that was there. Except this time there was a little bit of trepidation sneaking in as well.
“What’s that face?” Elide’s question cut through Aelin’s thoughts.
“Huh?”
Elide’s face took up the screen, a dark brow raised in question. “The face you’re making right now. What’s that about?”
“Nothing, it’s nothing,” Aelin tried to assure her.
“Spill, Aelin,” Eldie demanded.
Aelin considered the benefits of divulging just a little bit to Elide. It might just relieve a little bit of pressure that keeping all this to herself was building up. She didn’t have to admit to what she and Rowan got up to, maybe she could just circle around the set up they’d been subjected to.
“I just got a message from Rowan,” Aelin said. “He’s coming this weekend.”
“Oh, good,” Elide sounded downright gleeful. “Maybe getting laid will help with some stress relief.”
Aelin laughed until she realised what her friend had said. “What?”
“Work won’t seem like the worst thing in the world while Rowan is blowing—’’
Aelin shot straight up. “Wait, you know? How? Who told you?”
Dark eyes stared through the screen. “You’re not as subtle as you think you are. No one told, I just found it really weird that at the bar Rowan came back from the bathrooms with a massive hard-on and you followed after him two seconds later.”
“I…” for a moment Aelin was at a loss for words. “You couldn’t have seen that.”
“True,” Elide said with a shrug. “But his face certainly looked like he had one.”
Aelin wanted to bury her face in her pillow. “Who else noticed?”
“Our friends, bar myself, are not as observant as you’re giving them credit for,” Elide assured her. “I was going to wait for you to tell me, but I jumped the gun because that look on your face doesn’t look like pure excitement.”
“It’s complicated,” Aelin admitted.
Elide scoffed. “Yeah, banging your best friend usually is.”
“It was all fine and dandy until this last trip, we saw each other way more than we usually do and our mothers very insistently tried to set us up on more than one occasion. So things were different, and I don’t know… I think I miss him. More than any other time before.”
That was it, she missed him, that’s all there was to it. Saying it aloud solidified the thought in her mind. The hesitation came from the fact this visit was happening so soon. Usually it was months before they saw each other, their travelling for work between cities wasn't frequent. Too much time together on this last trip was to blame for everything. There were too many heightened emotions and now they were lingering and causing trouble. Why couldn’t they just keep things as they were? Simple, easy, no pesky strings attached.
“So…” Elide hedged, “you’ll be telling him no this time?”
Aelin considered it for a moment. She could just say she already had plans because it was so last minute. That would give her the distance that she probably needed to start thinking clearly again. But with Rowan in the same city, could she really bring herself to stay away?
“No, I’ll see him,” Aelin decided. “It would be weird if I didn’t. And you’re right, maybe a little bit of recreational sexual activities will help with the stress.”
“And you’ll stop missing him,” Elide added. “For the time being, at least.”
Aelin nodded. “True. Well, I won’t keep you from your date any longer, but I want you to know I’m slightly insulted that you won’t tell me who it is.”
“You’ll get over it. I love you,” Elide said in that brutally succinct way of hers.
“I love you too,” Aelin said through her laughter. “Have fun.”
They both said a final goodbye and Aelin hung up. A new feeling of clarity settled over her. All this turmoil over Rowan was pointless. All it really came down to was that during their last set of rendezvous Aelin had been spoiled for company and now she was just dealing with going without. She was overreacting and she blamed work and meddlesome relatives not giving her a moment’s peace. Work she couldn’t do much about besides just getting it done. But she’d be having words with her mother about how butting into her love life was well and truly off the table. Especially if it was going to do a number on brain like this, not if it was going to ruin the friendship she valued most. What she and Rowan had was perfect the way it was—it was exactly what the two of them needed. It was up to Aelin to ignore everything else to keep it that way.
~~~~~
Rowan was a desperate man. He had hounded his boss from the moment Aelin left for some opportunity to be sent to Rifthold. He was knocked back so many times that he’d been trawling through commissions himself to find just the slightest excuse. When he got the call that one of the museums in Rifthold they worked with needed a consult Rowan was thrown the job out of pity. Or maybe it was to get him to shut up.
In the end, Rowan couldn’t care less. He was going Orynth, and he was so caught up on the fact that he would be seeing Aelin again that work hardly mattered to him. Aelin was all he cared about. Telling her how he felt was more important than an upgrade to the mediaeval wing of the museum.
Nearly every night since she’d left he had to talk himself down from booking his own ticket and flying out. That wasn’t the way they did things and Rowan had no idea what Aelin felt. if he showed up out of the blue there was a decent chance he would scare her or himself off. As tempted as he was to make some big grand gesture, there was too much history between them for that kind of action. There were obstacles and things they would need to sort out before they moved forward, none of which would be easily overcome. Their situation was complicated, and complicated required caution. Rowan had to convince himself more than once that keeping it business as usual was the best choice.
All those semi sleepless nights didn’t matter now, because at this very moment he was checking into his hotel room. It was late Friday evening, the trip was so sudden that he had to leave after work. Rowan would spend Saturday meeting with whoever it was at the museum he needed and then he would be able to see Aelin. His lack of focus was a serious indicator for how flippant he’d become over this particular job. Any other time he’d have the client’s names memorised, would have gone over his notes and designs a hundred times. Instead he’d spent most of his time looking at his phone waiting to see what Aelin had to say.
She’d agreed to meet up but had let him know that work had been insane and things might be a little up in the air. Rowan didn’t mind in the slightest. All that mattered was talking to Aelin and he was determined that this would be the trip to do it. There was no more wasted time, he was in love with her and it was as simple as that.
The daylight hours of Saturday were all but meaningless. Rowan managed to keep himself professional for when he needed to and presented his plans without flourish. After that he returned to his room and became no better than a teenager—phone in hand and eyes glued to it. He tried not to get too disappointed every time that Aelin pushed back their meet up time to a little later. At first they were meant to meet before dinner, and then it was for dinner. Rowan was about to leave for the restaurant when a text came in with a heartfelt apology from Aelin saying that she wouldn’t make it. His heart had stopped in his chest because he thought she was cancelling altogether, but she finished off with a promise she’d come to him and to just send her the address.
Rowan had done exactly that and ordered in. He tried to watch TV while he waited. The channels were limited and he couldn’t be bothered to go through the whole process of logging into a streaming service, so he just let a renovation show play while he ran through everything he needed to say to Aelin. He debated back and forth over the merits of starting with I love you and going from there. This current round he was against it, a case of too much too soon. There was still the unanswered question of how Aelin felt and that was what the axis of his entire future existence spun on.
And then finally there was a knock on his door.
Launching would be the best way to describe Rowan’s departure from the bed. It was a single room accommodation, with a bed, desk and small attached bathroom, so it was only a matter of seconds until he had his hand on the door handle. Rowan took in one deep breath to ready himself, swinging the door open and he found her.
Aelin stood there, a tired smile on her face and still dressed in her work clothes. She had a large bag over her shoulder that most likely contained clothes for the night. As Rowan looked at her now, taking in every inch of her, he wondered how he had been able to suppress his feelings for so long.
“You gonna let me in, hotshot?” Aelin asked, a hand rising to her hip. “Or am I booking my own room?”
“Yeah, sorry.” Rowan stepped aside, hoping he didn’t come across as awkward as he suddenly felt.
Aelin gave him a look like she might be questioning his sanity before walking into his room. Rowan shut the door behind her and withheld the need to hold her—to kiss her senseless and confess every little thing that had built up over these weeks apart. She stopped by the little table, picking at his leftover pizza.
“Do you mind if I use your shower? I feel a little gross after such a long day,” Aelin said, chewing over a piece of pepperoni.
“Of course,” Rowan said, gesturing at the bathroom door.
Aelin disappeared a moment later and once again Rowan had to wait. The buzz of the shower added to the sounds of the TV, and he didn’t bother to change the volume. He didn’t care about the clashing wallpaper or bedding choices. Rowan just lay back on the bed, staring at the ceiling fan. Last time he’d seen one of these in a hotel room his pants had ended hanging over it. He didn’t know whether he should be hoping for a repeat performance or not.
The shower shut off and Rowan’s body thrummed with anticipation. Soon enough Aelin would be here, in his arms, and he could admit to how he felt. They could talk and they would figure out some way to make their situation work. The door creaked open after what seemed like a lifetime and Rowan sat up. Aelin stepped out of the bathroom, dressed in an oversized t-shirt with her damp hair loose around her shoulders. She’d washed off all her make-up, but she wasn’t any less beautiful.
“Work has been the worst,” Aelin nearly groaned, heading to the minibar and pulling out a bottle of beer. “I know this will cost you like $50 so I’ll pay you back.”
“It’s fine,” Rowan said, he’d give her just about anything right now if she asked for it.
Aelin took a few decent mouthfuls then left it on the table along with the pizza. Then she stalked over to him, stopping right in between his knees. Her hands rested on his shoulders, fingers playing with the ends of his hair.
“Aelin,” it felt so good to just say her name, to see her face soften just the slightest when he did. “There’s something I wanted to talk to you about.”
Rowan’s breath caught as Aelin brought her body flush against his. The fingers in his hair tightened, angling his face upwards so he could watch her whisper, “I don’t want to talk.”
She kissed him and Rowan could never deny her. After what must have been a hellish day this is what Aelin needed from him. To be touched and made to forget about the world outside this hotel room. Rowan could give her that—gladly. And he just told himself the same thing he’d been repeating over the last few weeks. He could wait a little longer.
~~~~
Rowan’s lips were soft as they met her’s, and Aelin sighed at the feeling that swept through her body. His hands were a steadying and familiar weight on her waist. Sometimes it was a shock as to how big they were, it took her a moment to remember just how much of her they could touch at once. Those hands that were always gentle, always making her feel cherished in every caress, that was no different as he pulled her down into his lap. Aelin straddled his hips, thighs tightening as she felt him through his sweatpants. It was flattering that only a few kisses and fleeting touches were all it took for him to be so hard and ready for her. She was almost impatient enough to tug his sweatpants down to free his cock, riding him hard and fast. But then it would be over too soon and Aelin might just be too tired for another round. So, instead she’d let him draw this out like he’d like to do to make every moment count.
This was exactly what she needed, a wonderful, all consuming distraction.
She whimpered as Rowan’s grip flexed on her waist, and then again when his hands travelled lower. In her overnight bag in the bathroom there was a nice little set she had planned on wearing but after a long soothing shower the idea was just too uncomfortable. So she’d gone without and as Rowan’s fingers dipped under the hem of her t-shirt he was about to discover how little she actually wore.
“Aelin,” he groaned as the pass over her hips revealed no trace of underwear. “You’re… I’ll never be able to explain it.”
He was rambling, and that was sweet, flattering even. But it wasn't nearly enough by a long shot. Aelin ground down on the hard length of him, using actions rather than words to beg for what she needed. Rowan got the hint. Holding her thighs he changed their positions, laying her softly down on the bed. They worked in sync, taking turns to remove each other’s clothes. Aelin ran her hands over exposed and heated skin, tracing over dips and curves she had memorised so many times before.
“Touch me, Rowan,” Aelin said in between kisses.
Rowan didn’t answer, he only pushed up enough so that he could run a hand down her body right to the middle of her thighs. Aelin gasped as he teased her with sweeping passes of a knuckle over her centre, making her buck and writhe until his thumb pressed down on her clit. Her moan was next to nothing with Rowan’s mouth on her’s, only muffled and needy sounds escaped as they were smothered by kisses.
Their first round after being apart was always frenzied, desperation dictating their actions. Aelin expected the same, but this wasn’t. Rowan was slow and thorough, with his lips and his fingers—it was a delicious kind of torture. One finger, and then a second, slipped into her while his thumb drew unhurried circles around her clit. Heat flooded Aelin’s cheeks as her body reacted to the touches that were both too much and not enough. He was keeping her right on the edge, waves of pleasure cresting but never breaking.
When he did it again, her body tensed as it prepared to let go and Rowan stole it away, had Aelin nearly sobbed out of frustration. “Please, Rowan.”
Rowan kissed her lips, tongue sweeping into her mouth for a dirty kiss. “Please what, Aelin?”
There was a hint of sass to his voice, and by the gods did Aelin rise to the challenge. She hooked a knee over his hip, urging him down so their bodies were flush. When she returned the favour of a kiss she made sure to bite at his bottom lip. “Fuck me, Rowan.”
He didn’t need much more convincing than that. Moving his hand and with a subtle shift of his hips Rowan pushed in, taking his time. Aelin’s hips rolled, coaxing him deeper.
“You feel so perfect.” Rowan sounded relieved and a little overwhelmed. “Every time.”
He cursed colourfully as he pressed his face into the crook of her neck. Aelin couldn’t help it, she laughed, her reward was a bite—right where the juncture of her shoulder and neck. It had her moaning and arching into him. Rowan knew exactly where her buttons were and now she was panting with desperation for him to do something. Anything.
Rowan didn’t make her wait, a hand high on her thigh kept her in place as he began thrusting. The angle of his cock was perfect, as it always was, and it led Aelin right into her greatest wish of the night. A beautiful distraction. Everything was Rowan, she was consumed by him. Their bodies moved synchronically, both wanting to give as much as the other. A hand that was not her own found Aelin’s breast, fingers rolling the hardened peak.
“That’s it,” Rowan whispered into her ear, the softness of his voice raising goosebumps over her skin and heightening every sensation. “You want to come. You deserve it.”
That little bit of encouragement was all she needed. Aelin broke, pleasure overtaking every sense in her body. Rowan pressed soft kisses to the length on her neck and face. His hips kept moving, drawing out her orgasm as long as he could. After a few long, bliss filled moments Aelin’s awareness returned to her.
“So beautiful,” Rowan all but hummed as his gaze swept over her, his next thrust sharper.
She could feel that Rowan was close, so she guided his face back to her and kissed him. Rowan groaned, losing his rhythm but it still felt just as good, so much so Aelin could feel herself building up again. He pulled back enough to look at her face. Their eyes connected, Rowan’s green gaze holding an intensity that had Aelin flushing with something closer to embarrassment than desire. The eye contact—it was too much. There was something there she hadn’t seen before. Her brain was far too distracted to decipher it so she went with the easiest option to cope.
“Gods, Rowan,” Aelin breathed, eyes fluttering shut, refocusing on how he felt on every inch of her skin.
“Open your eyes, love,” Rowan urged. He gave her a sweet kiss for extra encouragement.
So caught up in him, Aelin couldn’t help but do as he asked. What she saw when she looked up at him had her heart pounding in her chest, a new wave of need crashing over her. It tipped her over the edge again, her body tightening before her core pulsed, bringing Rowan right along with her. He moaned deeply, the vibrations of it thrumming over her sensitive skin. Aelin clung to Rowan, waiting for her breathing to even out and sense to settle in her brain. She didn’t think she’d ever tire of sex with Rowan, nothing else even came close.
He had his forehead resting on her collarbone, just as wrecked as she was. Lips dragged over her skin and his next words were whispered right over her heart. “I love you,”
Aelin’s breath caught and those words registered in her blissed out brain, sobering her instantly. But it seemed Rowan hadn’t even noticed what he said, he just rolled to the side, letting Aelin escape to the bathroom. Her heart was pounding so hard in her chest that she felt it in her throat, making her want to vomit. Aelin held back the impulse and cleaned up as quickly as she could. Diving into the overnight bag she had conveniently left in here after the shower Aelin pulled out clothes to put on. It was just an oversized sweater and leggings, but it would be enough to get her to her car.
Because she couldn’t stay here, not now that Rowan had gone and ruined everything. The easiest option was for her to leave, and quickly. If she stayed there might not be anything left of their relationship to salvage. Missing him was one thing, and then there was this.
This was not what they were, they couldn’t be. It didn’t make sense. Why did Rowan have to go and ruin a perfectly good thing?
I love you.
Those three words echoed in her brain and did nothing to console her. Rowan couldn’t love her, she wasn’t what he needed or wanted. Not really. If he had the sense to really consider it he would know this wasn’t the right course for them. Aelin would give him the opportunity to do just that. She packed up the rest of her bag, so all she had to do was grab her purse and shoes and leave.
Swallowing down against the tightness in her throat, Aelin opened the door and swept out with the shortest of glances in Rowan’s direction. He was splayed out on the bed looking like he was still recovering after the mind blowing sex. Aelin’s stomach gave a pang of regret when she realised this would be the last time. It would be cruel to put Rowan through any more of this when she didn’t feel the same.
Aelin gathering up her things seemed to shake him from his daze and he raised himself up on his elbow. “What are you doing?”
She snatched up her purse and stepped around the table. “Leaving.”
“Why…” Rowan trailed off, then realisation dawned on him. “Aelin, wait. Don’t go, let me explain.”
“There’s no need,” Aelin said, slipping a foot into her kitten heel. Rowan went to get out of bed but she stopped him with a raised hand. “Don’t. Just stay there.”
Gods bless him, he did. She could always count on Rowan to respect boundaries.
“Stay, and we’ll talk,” Rowan nearly pleaded.
“We’re friends, Rowan,” Aelin said, forcing every ounce of bravado into as she could. She even added a strained note of laughter. “That’s all we are and can be.”
“Friends don’t do this.”
Aelin’s head snapped up, it was all too easy to read the look of hurt and disappointment on his face. It wasn’t clear if he was talking about her behaviour in this moment or the casual fucking that they’d indulged in over the years, ending in the subsequent drama that had entangled them. Any way they looked at it, Aelin wasn’t staying for the clarification. She just slipped on the other shoe.
“I’m going,” she said, rushing for the door.
“Aelin—”
A glance over her shoulder told her he was making his move to get out of bed, denying her order to stay where he was. But it was too late—her hand was on the door knob.
“Goodbye, Rowan.”
Aelin twisted the handle, ignoring the rush of movement behind her and stepped out in the hallway. She thought it would be harder to not look back, but with every step he took away from that hotel room it only bolstered her resolve. They were better off like this, it was now up to Rowan to realise it.
