Meet benjamin!

Benjamin is your everyday boy back then he had a hardworking father and a step-mother that try her best to be the boy's like mother, Benjamin mother left her husband not feeling her best in the marriage after giving birth to her first child after a month she left the marriage leaving the poor man heartbroken with a baby boy and then meet someone new and now living the best life this fate could give to them one day the step-mother felt she wants to change the mood one night and toke benjamin to one of his favorite place a tavern/clubhouse where this a stage for singers to sing there where also some older kids with them after two songs finish and was getting some break when the happened the kids decided to play hide and seek and invite benjamin to play with them after a while one of the kids decided to explore the backrooms of the stage after successfully getting in they got in a room for singers then finding an old chest all of them tried to get in but it was simply two small for them when it was benjamin turn it fitted him perfectly even getting the chest close on him fully it was all fun and games until hearing a stuff trying to coming in the room suddenly they know they had to hide somewhere everyone found a hide spot benjamin toke the chest spot and close it on him after the staff finally got in everything looked normal looking around little bit before going back all of kids get out of their hiding spot and made a run for it leaving little benjamin stuck inside in the chest all alone, screaming crying out for someone to help him and no one came to help him at the end the security found him too late, the older kids kept quiet to guilty to say anything, the parents feeling absolutely shit about all of this.

Few years (months) pass by benjamin just accepted the he is died and now in heaven, and he knows almost everyone but he would rather to keep his business to himself...but even when you keeping everything to yourself you still can come across something the your supposed not to see, him come by to talk with sere to let him see his parents, but he stop half way instead he hears a voice he recognize that voice then it's hits him it's adam voice decided to hear what he is saying and only understanding some words "hell" and "kill" after that his interest is piqued, he toke a peek only to see angel (he supposed so) armed with whit and black and all shade of gray and them holding weapons after that he see them falling? When he was sure the all of them are gone he got in the room to see a Portal is open and inside it is all red deciding to look closer getting inside the portal was probably the biggest (after)life changer seeing the angels killing the Demons and sinners the Angels didn't notice him instead of going back he came done closer to watch and understand to why he landed in a alley way Thinking he is safe but fate isn't to kind to him...some sinner griping benjamin by his shirt to look him died in the eyes, he didn't understand anything that is coming out of the sinner mouth and when the sinner realized this he pull up his other arm ready to punch the poor thing only to find the sinner whole arm cut up clean off on the floor, noticing the there is numerous shadows around them looking like they are giggling and some of them even getting out of the floor/walls with a big smile on there 'face' one second he was up in the air almost getting punch by a demon and now sitting on the floor frozen up seeing his attacker get swallowed up by the shadows and a sinner cat like woman watching it with a smirk besides him, what he didn't know is in the future the same woman will be the same one he calls his "sister"

thinking about how both edwin and charles refer to edwin getting sent to hell as a technicality or a clerical error and like. it's not. that's not what happened. edwin was sacrificed. hell had a mechanism for accepting innocent souls. edwin ending up in hell wasn't a loophole or a mistake someone made along the way. it was a system that was working exactly the way it was intended.

and thinking about the idea of hell and the idea of forgiveness and the idea that you only stay in hell if you feel like you belong there. and how edwin says that he was never meant to be in hell to begin with but still building up a case for himself to prove it because him not deserving hell might not be immediately obvious

thinking about how edwin died because of a hate crime, how he died being made to feel that there is something fundamentally wrong with him and getting sent to hell right after. and thinking about how edwin saying "if you punish yourself, everywhere becomes hell" and over a century of repression and supressing the parts of himself that got him killed, that got him sent to hell in the first place. and thinking about how when the night nurse looked at edwin's file, it didn't know if he belonged in hell or somewhere else either because edwin didn't know because edwin knows that he never did anything to deserve hell but he didn't get sent to hell because of anything he did but because of what he is and maybe there's a difference and maybe he believes that he never did anything wrong but maybe some part of him believes that he, personally, is wrong

and thinking about forgiveness and salvation and how people actually get out of hell, and how edwin forgave simon because they were two queer kids in the same shitty situation both in life and in death and it didn't matter how simon hurt edwin because he still needed to understand that being gay was not a punishment, and thinking about simon getting out of hell right after

and thinking about edwin confessing his love for charles on the steps of hell and getting to leave right after and how hell is something you make for yourself and how edwin escaped the first time but he never forgave himself for what he is and not something hecdid maybe hell still had a hold on him after all those years and it wasn't until he let himself be honest about it and be gay and love boys and allowed himself to actively choose to be the person he is and deciding that that person is someone who is allowed to feel and love and that that kind of love was not a punishment and thinking about how edwin escaped hell by not just allowing himself to love but leaving behind all the ways he was punishing himself for it

the responses i’ve seen to shiv’s ending seem very quick to write her off as just another sad victim of the cycle, which isn’t without truth BUT!!! that is not even remotely the summation of shiv’s story.

i don’t think she votes yes to “save kendall” or to try to finally set her brothers free. and i don’t think her main concern was that ken was becoming their dad. she absolutely noticed and didn’t love it, but that was not her motivation in betraying him. she was thinking about herself.

it’s tempting to make a martyr out of her as she is the only female child and we see her suffer the onslaught of misogyny that comes with that. but to make her into a saintlike figure who got beat takes away the power and intelligence behind her decision.

at this point she’s stuck between two non ideal choices, but she recognizes that they have accidentally made her the single most important player in the game. because while she can’t have the outcome she’d prefer, she has the power to decide the fates of everyone else. the written off lone woman now holds in her hands the fate of every man in her life.

so she thinks about the long term benefits of both options and realizes that one side leaves her completely without any leverage.

her brothers have proven to her multiple times in the last few days alone that they will cut her out and walk all over her the first chance they get. siding with them leaves her nothing to bargain with. she would just have to hope that ken would actually take care of her. and that level of vulnerability is not only unacceptable to her, it’s stupid. and shiv fuckin roy is not stupid.

so she thinks about the other side and about what she actually wants for her life. and against her better judgment, it’s becomes unfortunately clear that she wants tom. the way she wants him is not altogether loving or even good but it is necessary to her. she sees relationships as having winners and losers and she chose this man specifically so that she could be confident in her ability to win. except now he’s grown some balls and made himself unavailable to her.

she may not like the way her husband is evolving but she already placed her bets on him, so she’s sure as hell not losing to him now. there’s also a part of her that feels intrigued by this new man she’s married to. it’s interesting to have a sparring partner in him instead of having to looking for excitement outside of their marriage.

so for maybe the first time ever, she processes what tom has said to her and thinks about what he actually wants.

he needs her to prove that she cares. he needs to know that she is capable of sacrifice. if she can’t find it within herself to do this for him, then she will lose him, and by extension, she will lose.

siding with tom gives her the opportunity to once and for all make a grand-stand gesture of love, but more importantly, it creates leverage for her. never again will he be able to hold the moral high ground over her head. never again can he say she doesn’t love him. never again can he call her selfish or uncaring. above all, he can never betray her again, because she just removed all of his moral justification for turning on her. he doesn’t realize it yet, but she’s just taken back all the power in their relationship. just in a more subtle way than she’s used to operating.

and just like that, she has the ceo of a multi billion dollar company in her pocket, while situating herself as the only descendant of logan roy to still be playing the game, having removed her brothers from the equation permanently. she may still be far from the top but she’s creating a path for herself to climb.

so yes, she’ll let tom play king for a day, and she’ll have his baby and say “congratulations,” and play the gracious wife, but tomorrow is a new day with lots of room to maneuver. and when her husband puts out his hand, she’ll place her own on top. but she won’t grasp it because she doesn’t need to.

Is one of the gayest fucking lines of television I’ve heard in my life.

Even if the presence of the song itself somehow wasn’t a flashing spotlight enough, the literal voice of God directly draws attention to it. Telling us that in universe, a nightingale really is in fact singing in Barkley square, and to know its music is sweet regardless of if we can hear it. Just like there are really in fact angels (one fallen but we’ll let it slide) dining at the ritz, and they’ve been falling in love regardless of if they’ve been allowed to openly pursue that feeling.

And hell, maybe it’s BECAUSE of the traffic that the nightingale finally sings. Perhaps it wasn’t ready until it was sure no one else could listen.
