Marvel Comics: The Human Torch (the android not Johnny Storm) killed Hitler by burning him alive.

Auto-da-fe (English: “act of faith”) was the final stage of Inquisition for prisoners accused of heresy or apostasy in Spain, Portugal, and Mexico, beginning in the 15th century. Ostensibly a final act of penance, but essentially a public execution, the most common conclusion was death by fire, though forms of pre-mortem torture and/or other methods of capital punishment were occasionally used as well.

The charred remains were so disfigured that at first they did not realise it was two people.

But when pathologists gently began to examine, they could see the bodies were those of an adult and a child. And they were hugging tightly.

what the heck, mitten, clam chowder smells good. i suppose that’s only when it’s heated up though. let me put it on the stove and mitten can come out if it asks nicely. if its request is decently polite, i will give it a small bowl of warm clam chowder. :)

Mitten feels the pot move, but has no idea what's going on until its feet start burning. It's on the heater device. It knows that one, it's one of the most common torture equipments used on it, and it hates it.

"Please let Mitten out!" It tries to push on the lid, but its attempts are futile. "Please! Please, Mitten is burning! It hurts! It hurts, please!"

You don't let it out until its pleas turn into terrified screams, scooping it out with a spoon and putting it in the sink. You turn on the faucet, dousing it with cold water, a mercy you think it should be very grateful for. Instead, Mitten just continues wailing.

"S-sorry, Mitten is sorry," it stutters when you make your displeasure known. "It was s-so painful, Mitten is sorry... Mitten is thankful..."

When you later put the bowl of clam chowder soup in front of it, Mitten winces. It glances at you, noting that you're watching it like a hawk. It forces a nervous smile and thanks you, blinking away tears as it eats the first spoonful of many.

I think I should do the irresponsible and selfish thing of stop looking at news for a while, currently the climate in Italy is so bad that it's just making my depression a lot worse
