There are 7 different types of leg press machines you need to know.
There are 7 different types of leg press machines you need to know.
Leg day is important to us. We love the part of the gym that people use to burn their legs.
You've probably heard about leg presses, but do you know how many different types there are?
You're in for a treat if that's the only thing you wanted to see!
This article will explore seven different types of leg press machines you should be aware of.
Leg press machines are great for building strength, power and muscle in the lower body, whether you're an experienced gym goer or you're just starting out.
There are leg press machines for every fitness goal and level.
Let's start and learn about the various types of leg presses that will help you to achieve a new level of fitness.
What are the different leg press machine types?
Click to skip to section
45 degree Linear Leg Press
The 45 Degree Linear Leg Press, a popular machine, allows users to push a sled with weight at a 45 degree angle.
The leg press machine that is commonly found in commercial gyms is a plate-loaded type.
Horizontal Seated Leg Press
Horizontal Seated leg press is a machine used while seated with legs out in front.
This type of machine is usually a pin-selectorized design and provides a more supported and comfortable leg press.
Angled Leverage Leg Press
The Angled Leverage Leg Press uses a lever system to provide resistance. This machine can be found in many gyms. It allows a controlled and smooth leg press with a wide range of motion.
Dual-Function Leg Press (Leg Press/Hack Squat)
Dual Function Leg Press Machine can be used both as a leg press or hack squat.
The leg press machine of this type is designed to fit into home gyms. It offers users more versatility and less space than two machines.
Vertical Leg Lift
The Vertical Leg press machine is a machine which allows the user to perform a leg pressing movement in a horizontal position while lying on their back.
The leg press machines are typically plate-loaded. They can be a great challenge for the legs while providing ultimate safety to your neck and back.
Compact Leg Press
Compact Leg Press machine is designed to be smaller than other leg press machines.
Leg press machines are often found in home gymnasiums. They can be used to provide a challenging workout for the legs in a small space and at a lower price.
Isolateral Leg Press
The Isolateral Leg Press Machine allows the user to independently work each leg.
Leg press machines are often found in commercial gyms. They can be used to correct leg imbalances, and provide a high level of isolation for advanced lifters.
45 Degree Linear Leg Press
The 45 Degree Linear Leg Press Machine, a popular machine, allows users to push weights on a sled with a 45 degree incline.
The machine is also known as incline leg presses, linear leg presses, or 90 degree leg presses. It gets its name because of the angle at which the tyres are positioned.
This type of leg presses can hold a lot of weight, and is often used in commercial settings.
The sled is straight and the user must focus on their lower body while maintaining a strong back and neck.
The 45 Degree Linear Leg Press sled is mounted on linear bearings which move along a fixed track. This helps provide a smooth, consistent motion.
The user sits with their backs against a pad, and their feet resting on a sled. This'sled' is then pushed outward to complete the leg pressing movement.
The 45 Degree Linear Leg Press comes with a plate that allows users to adjust the weight according to their resistance level.
How to use a 45 degree linear leg press
Here's a guide to help you use a 45-degree linear leg press effectively if you're a new user. The machines may vary in appearance, but they are generally used the same way.
You can adjust the weight of the machine to the desired resistance level.
As you sit, place your back on the pad with your feet on the sled.
Put your feet on the sled shoulder-width apart, your toes slightly pointing outward.
Slowly lower the weight of the sled towards your body by releasing the safety locks.
Straighten your legs and push the sled back away from you.
Repeat the desired number of reps by slowly lowering the weight towards your body.
45 Degree Linear Leg Press Benefits
Lower Body Isolation
This 45 degree linear leg press, like all other leg pressing exercises, will help you build strength and power in your legs by targeting your quads hamstrings and glutes.
There is Little or No Spinal Compression
The 45 Degree Linear Leg Press is a great alternative to traditional barbell squats. It can help reduce spinal compression and therefore be a better option for people with back injuries or pain.
Controlled Movement
The 45 Degree Linear leg press has linear bearings that provide a smooth, consistent motion. This allows users to remain in control during the entire exercise.
Customizable resistance
A plate-loaded machine allows users to adjust the weight according to their fitness level.
Pre-Cation Safety Built-In
In most cases, the leg press won't crush you if you miss a rep or if an accident occurs. Leg press machines are generally safe to use, even though it is best to avoid them.
Horizontal Seated Leg Press
The horizontal seated foot press is a pin-selectorized machine which requires the user sit horizontally and either push weight forward with their legs, or push backwards from a stationary feet plate.
It is very easy to mount the horizonal version. You just need to sit on it, and press.
It is easy to switch weights from one set or user to another with the selectorized weight stack included in the machine.
It is perfect for beginners or rehab clients, as you can limit the depth of the machine (range-of-motion) in order to reduce any risks.
The safest machine of the lot is this leg press.
How to use a horizontal seated leg press
When you press, adjust the seat so your knees are roughly at a 90 degree angle.
Choose the weight you would like to use for leg press by using the weight stack.
Put your feet about shoulder width apart on the platform or wherever you feel comfortable.
Grab the handles at the side of the machine to ensure stability.
Push your feet into the footplate, using your quads to push, while keeping your glutes tight and your core in place.
Perform as many repetitions as you like by slowly lowering the weight to the starting position.
Horizontal Leg Press Benefits
Targeted muscle development.
The horizontal seated leg presses primarily target the quadriceps, but also work the hamstrings.
Low Impact
The horizontal seated leg presses are low-impact exercises that put minimal strain on joints.
Easy to use
It is easy to change the weight or switch users with this pin selectorized system.
Adjustable Range of Motion
The design of the machine allows for greater flexibility, as it can increase over time.
Leg Press with Angled Leverage
A Leg Press with Angled Leverage is a machine that uses a system of levers to provide resistance for the user.
This machine is usually plate-loaded and has a 45-degree incline. It offers a lot of resistance and adjustability.
The angled leg press is named so because it has a range of motion that is angled to some extent.
The design is based on a biomechanical range of motion that targets the quads and hamstrings most effectively, with little or no involvement of the upper and lower back.
The leg press works well for all-around strength and muscle growth in your legs, with an emphasis on hypertrophy.
How to use a Leg Press with Leverage
Start by adjusting your seat to the desired position. Then, load the weight plates you know you will be able to perform multiple reps.
Set your foot position by seated on the machine, with your back flat against the backrest of the machine and your feet on the footplate.
Grab the handles on either side of the seat, brace your core and legs, and then release the safety device, which is usually located on the side.
Squeeze your quadriceps while pushing the footplate with your feet.
Remember to keep your knees from being fully extended for safety.
Regroup yourself for the next rep. Remember to breathe!
Benefits of Angled Leverage Leg press
Supreme Range Of Motion
It is well known that the angled leg press has a wide range of motion. This allows for a full contraction on top and a deep stretch in the legs.
Lower Body Isolation
The angled leg presses place very little stress on your lower and upper back. This allows you to focus all of your energy in the legs, which leads to a high level hypertrophy and development.
Isolated Leg Exercise
By pressing one leg at a given time, you can correct muscle imbalances. The great range of motion of this type of leg press makes it popular for isolation exercises.
Fits Different Fitness Levels
Leverage leg presses are suitable for people with varying fitness levels and abilities, as they offer adjustable resistance and ranges of motion.
Very Low Injury Risk
Leverage angled leg presses are safer than traditional squats because there is no weight placed on the shoulders or back.
Dual Function Leg Press (Leg Press/Hack Squat).
Dual Function Leg Press Machine allows you to do both hack squats and leg presses. It is an excellent addition to any home or gym workout area.
The machine usually includes a footplate and a back plate which can be adjusted for different sizes of bodies and to accommodate various exercise variations.
You can switch between an incline leg press at 45 degrees and a shoulder-loaded hack squat in the same machine without having to spend extra money or space.
How to use a dual function leg press / hack squat
1. Adjust the machine to fit your body.
2. You can load up the machine with as much weight you want to achieve optimal resistance. These machines are usually plate-loaded.
3. Before you begin, brace your legs, glutes, and core. Also, disengage the machine's safety mechanism.
4. You can choose to move at any time.
Dual Function Leg Press Benefits
Versatility
This machine has two functions that allow you to do two popular lower-body exercises in one machine.
Adjustable Plate Loaded Resistance
You can add or remove weights to the machine to adjust resistance according to your fitness level.
Low Joint Strain
Leg press and hacksquats performed on this machine are less stressful on the knees, hips and lower back than traditional squats and lunges. This makes them an excellent option for most people.
Save Money and Space
By combining these two machines, you can save space and money for your home gym or facility.
Vertical Leg Press
Vertical leg press has a different design than other leg presses.
The machine is vertically aligned, as its name suggests.
The pushes up the platform by laying flat on the ground with the back of the person against the padded support.
It is important to maintain the neck and back in a neutral position and aligned for safety.
This is a great machine to add to your routine as a change from the usual leg press machine.
How to use a vertical leg press
1. Start with a small amount of weight and work your way up. Start light and gradually increase your weight to determine your strength capacity.
2. Place yourself comfortably in the machine by lying flat on your back.
3. Put your feet on the machine in a position where you can achieve the full depth without having your heels or feet rise above the footplate.
4. Engage your legs and brace your core, then de-engage the safety device on the machine.
5. As you resist the weight, bend your knees outwards and push them towards your core. You should stretch out fully but not so deep that you end up stuck at the bottom.
6. Drive the footplate back upwards, while keeping your core braced. This is one rep.
Vertical Leg Press Benefits
Unique Leg Press Movement
The vertical leg press may not be something that everyone is familiar with. Try it out and you will be surprised at how different it is from other machines.
Lower Back and Neck Support
The lower back, upper spine, and neck are all almost entirely left out. You will feel the stretch in your hamstrings and glutes without having to strain your back.
Direct 1 to 1 Weight Ratio
Some leg press machines, such as the 45 degree leg press or the leverage leg press have a weight slightly higher than what you actually feel you are pushing.
Gravity and the angle of the machine combine to make it appear smaller than it is.
If you align the machine vertically, the weight that you place on it will be met with 100% of its resistance, not a slight angle.
Different Types of Leg Press Machines
There are many different types of leg presses, all with their own benefits and features.
Consider factors like the weight range, machine dimensions and user experience when choosing your best option.
The best leg press machine will be one that suits your fitness goals and preferences.

Corrections
We here at Sufficiently Large Ndustries pride ourselves on our unwavering commitment to factual accuracy in all things.
Recently, it has come to our attention that certain details of this post, hereinafter referred to as the "Fuck Yeah Stick-Elf" post, or FYSE, seem to contradict the canon established by internationally-known author Jonald Ronald Rolkien Tolkien (h/t @elodieunderglass for explaining his full name).
Because of our unwavering commitment to factual accuracy in all things, we cannot possibly have made any mistakes, so we wish to issue several corrections to your understanding to demonstrate that we were correct all along:
Question: Don't the Gondorians call him Mithrandir?
Answer: Not all Gondorians.
Canonically, Tolkien notes that the people of Gondor use the Sindarin name Mithrandir (from mith "grey" and randir "random", hence "some random grey guy") for Olórin. However, Tolkien's references to this are always about Gondorian nobility or royalty, who did indeed call Stick-Elf Mithrandir. This is because they were kind of pretentious, like native English speakers who insist on correcting anyone who doesn't pronounce "Paris" as "pair-REE".
When six-year-old Faramir had nightmares and ran to his father calling out "I'm scared!", Denethor would correct him, saying "No, you feel echais", because he was a dick. Part of the reason why Gondor lost a lot of its ancient glory is because it had centuries of leaders who were like this.
The average Joeromir Schmoeromir on the streets of Gondor, however, just called him Stick-Elf.
Question: If this is set in the past and Éodan is from Rohan, how could Gondor have a king?
Answer: It's not that king.
Suzannethor (the Archivist) mentions that Stick-Elf brought fireworks for the king's birthday, but Gondor's last king, King Eänur, died in T.A. 2050, almost five centuries before Rohan was founded in T.A. 2510 (special thanks to @thinkinginquenya for pointing out this discrepancy).
The answer is that FYSE is set in T.A. 2703, well after Rohan's founding; When the characters refer to "the king", they're not referring to royalty, but rather to the famous Númenórean musician Aarondil Préslion, often called "The King of Chant and Lyre" or just "The King" for short.
At this point there weren't many Men with enough Númenórean blood to have the sort of longevity that Aarondil had, leading to rumors that he was secretly an elf, hence his stage name, Elvish Présli.
Some of his most famous songs, like "Jailhouse Dirge" and "You Ain't Nothin' But a Warg Dog" are still popular today. Olórin was particularly fond of "Blue Steel Shoes", a lively jig about plate mail maintenance, and this is why he brought fireworks to Présli's 90th birthday party.
Question: Why does Elrond say "here in the North" in Gondor?
Answer: Elrond is a very sleepy boi.
In FYSE, Elrond says "Here in the North", even though generally most surviving texts of Middle-Earth are Gondo-centric and use "The North" to refer to lands north of Gondor, like Arnor/Eriador or the Forodwaith.
However, Jenniforomir just woke Elrond up from a nap (she didn't realize this because elves sleep with their eyes open), and he's still slightly disoriented. He says "Here in the North" because he was dreaming about a pub he visited once in Annúminas (and he is slightly shaken because in the dream he had forgotten to wear clothes, he had an exam coming up that he hadn't known about, and very tiny orcs were juggling silmarils all over the place).
Question: Why would Elrond out Olórin as a Maiar?
Answer: He was already out.
Tolkien didn't mention this in the books, but Olórin travels around on horse with several Maiar Pride bumper stickers, including a plain Maiar pride flag, one that reads "Maiar tested, Valar approved", and one that reads "Maiarn't there a lot of us!". Elrond knows this, and so has no compunction telling random Gondorians that Olórin is a Maiar.
We hope that these clarifications will reassure you that we here at Sufficiently Large Ndustries have never said anything false, ever, in all directions and at all times.

Part One Two Three
tw; childbirth
Eddie’s never moved this fast in his life; keys, phone, wallet, one quick mouthful of now cold chicken off his dinner plate, jacket, crocs off, sneakers on and he’s out the door.
Eddie carries Steve’s bag and the car seat, the towel rolled up under his arm, while Steve waddles along besides him.
He has to stop occasionally to take some deep breaths, obviously in pain, but it doesn’t take that long to get to the van. Eddie sets the towel on the passenger seat, rolling his eyes as Steve insist on it. Once he’s settled, Steve calls Robin and explains the new plan. Chrissy’s on her way apparently, so it shouldn’t be too long.
Eddie’s never been a nervous driver. Eddie’s never been in an accident that was his fault. He got rear ended one time and the bumper fell off, but that was about it. But now; this journey? Eddie’s driving like there’s a very full jug of gravy strapped into the passenger seat.
It’s a huge relief when they make it to the hospital. Eddie just throws the van into one of the spots out front; he’s not sure if he’s even allowed to park there but, honestly, fuck it. If he gets a fine he gets a fine.
Steve’s taking some awfully deep breaths and white knuckling his seatbelt strap, but otherwise seems okay. Just scents a little nervous mostly, a little scared, but Eddie can’t really blame him for that at all.
Once Eddie carefully wrangles Steve out of the van, he realizes Steve was absolutely right because, to be fair, Steve has left a fair old mark on the towel, so maybe Eddie will let him off for insisting.
Eddie leaves the carseat, figuring he can grab that in a bit – it leaves him a free hand for Steve to hold on to while they walk – and waddle – into the hospital.
They get directed to wait until a nurse can come down with a wheel chair, but in a sharp and really, really uncharacteristic show of temper, Steve snaps at the lady behind the desk that ‘he can walk, thank you very much. He is in labor, he is not incapable!’ And for the first time ever, Eddie scents the spicy scent of Steve's irritation.
She looks at Steve dubiously, but directs them in the right direction. Eddie is incredibly relieved that a nurse with a wheelchair meets them half way anyway, Steve still refuses to sit in it, so she follows along just in case she’s needed.
She seems really nice, from what Eddie can tell, and when Eddie looks over at her, she mouths a clear, ‘don’t worry,’ with a smile on her face, so Eddie figures this is all cool or normal or whatever.
Especially since Eddie has not a fucking clue what to expect here.
They make it to a set of doors with a keypad; the nurse lets them in. It makes a lot of sense, and gets rid of a worry Eddie didn’t even know he had; Steve’s going to be safe here. This bit of the hospital is extra secure for Steve and the pup.
“Eddie,” Steve stops walking, “there’s something-” and then Steve makes an unholy noise, doubling over as yet more bloody liquid gushes out of him. It’s like when the elevator doors open in the shining. Or that bit at the end of Carrie.
No it isn’t. It isn’t anywhere near that bad, it just looks like it is since there looks like there’s a lot of it and the fact that it's coming out of Steve probably makes it look worse than it really is.
Steve’s sneakers are going to be fucked, Eddie thinks absently, while having his hand near as damn snapped in half. There’s a nurse there with some sort of absorbent padding, thin blue plastic on one side, and white diamond pattern of white padding on the other, “don’t worry, we got you.”
Steve starts to list to the side, Eddie drops the overnight bag to come in front, Steve flailing and grabbing Eddie’s other hand as he pants his way through something that looks pretty fucking painful from a spectators point of view.
“Okay Mr. Harrington, I have to have a look.”
“Need the chair?” Nurse number one asks.
“Nope, way too late for that, he’s crowning,” and then suddenly a lot happens all at once. There’s another nurse there suddenly, gloved up and wearing an apron. Steve drags Eddie down with him as he sinks to his knees.
“Okay Mr. Harrington, you’re going to feel the urge to push on your contraction, you go ahead and do that when it feels right.”
Steve’s clawing at Eddie, his hands move for purchase on Eddie’s shoulders, “Eddie, I don’t want to have my baby in the fucking hallway,” he pants, face buried against Eddie’s shoulder.
“Uhm, not sure we can stop it,” Eddie says really really unhelpfully, right as Steve growls out a sound Eddie didn’t even know Omega’s could even make.
Eddie's forced to have his chin hooked over Steve's shoulder due to their positions, and that means Eddie's looking straight down Steve's back; he has front row seats for what happens next.
The nurses are all talking to each other, and they're all pretty calm, like this is a normal day at the office, except for when one of them shouts for something...and then there’s a baby. it just sort of slips free of Steve's body, like a magic trick, Steve making another one of those noises right in Eddie's ear.
The pup is crying and one of the nurses says, “is that a new record?”
A different one replies, “nah, there was that lady who only made it into the lobby.”
Eddie stares in wonder. And also, a bit in horror. It’s a boy, very definitely a boy, in fact. Eddie’s instinct is that Steve’s just given birth to an Alpha. One who’s covered in gack and blood, and he’s waving his arms and legs around like he doesn’t know what to do with all the space he’s suddenly got. He’s kind of covered in whitish slime, and he has got a lot of hair. Like a lot.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with his lungs.
“Are they okay? Eddie, please- is-”
“Yeah,” Eddie comes back to earth with a bump, Steve whispering in his ear, Eddie watches the nurse tie off and cut the umbilical, “yeah he’s absolutely fine Steve.”
“He?” Steve sobs against Eddie’s neck.
Eddie watches as a nurse kind of randomly sticks her fingers in the babies mouth, and then they’re taking him away and Eddie is not at all fucking happy about that but is distracted again by a nurse.
“Okay Mr. Harrington, once more and you’re done.”
For a split second, Eddie thinks Steve’s having twins, but then he finds out the placenta is a whole other thing that needs to happen.
Every day’s a school day.
Eddie’s kneeling on a hallway floor, taking half of Steve’s weight, and Steve’s just had a pup. Steve snuffles at Eddie’s neck, and Eddie is flooded with a bone deep certainty that he is exactly where he’s supposed to be.
“Eddie, I have to get up.”
“Okay. Okay, yeah.”
Eddie helps, making it half way before wheelchair nurse is back, and Eddie helps Steve, really gingerly and a little awkward, settle into the chair.
“Where is he?”
“They’re just cleaning him up, lets get you onto a bed and he’ll be there.”
Steve just...strips in front of Eddie. Eddie catches stretchmarks and then the curve of Steve’s ass as he climbs into bed, and then, true to their word, swaddled in a hospital blanket, the baby is half unwrapped so that they are skin to skin, and deposited onto Steve’s chest, “seven pound four,” she tells Steve.
She waits, making sure Steve doesn’t have any problems with the baby ‘latching’ – which Eddie works out is the proper word for the little guy getting on Steve’s nip – and then she goes to get Steve some water and pain relief.
Eddie just stands there, next to the bed, quietly amazed. It’s like the whole world just shifted a little to the left; this tiny thing suckling at Steve’s rounded chest is just...suddenly the most precious thing in the world. Steve's got a fair bit of chest hair for an Omega; Eddie cannot stop staring at where the tiny pups fingers are gripping at it as he suckles.
“Steve,” Steve looks up, he looks tired, and a little washed out, but so fucking happy, “congratulations.”
Steve smiles, “thanks Eddie.”
“So what are you going to name him?”
Steve’s had a drink, some pain meds, and been inspected by a doctor. Eddie was aloud to sit in the arm chair and hold the little pup while Steve got checked out and...he didn’t cry, but it was close. The scent of pup seems to have already ingrained itself on Eddie’s soul.
He’s asleep now, and neither of them can stop staring at him, they talk in whispers.
“I don't know, I thought I’d just...see them and know, somehow.”
Eddie hums, thinking. “How about Ronnie James?”
“Uh hu. And who is that?”
“Ronnie James Dio Steve, only the greatest musical talent of all time.”
Steve sighs, “I like James.”
“Yeah?”
“Jamie, yeah, James Robin Harrington, what do you think?”
“I mean...I’m kind of biased but yeah. Yeah I like it.”
“Oh my god. Ohmygodohmygodohmygod Steve.”
“Hey, Robbie.”
Robin comes into the room slowly, and Eddie can tell she’s barely holding back, “I missed it. Oh I’m so sorry I missed it I-”
“Hey it’s okay, honestly it happened so fast I nearly missed it.”
They keep chatting, Robin apologizing and then, crying. And then Steve starts crying. And Robins saying she’s so proud and they’re scenting each other and Robin's scenting the pup and then they’re crying again and Steve’s telling her the name and then that’s a whole thing because Robin didn’t know about the middle name, apparently-
A blonde beta female has sidled up to Eddie, “I’m Chrissy, Eddie, right?”
“Yeah, nice to finally meet you.”
“Yeah same and...this,” she vaguely indicates where Robin and Steve are now, cuddled on the bed with the pup, “we just have to let this happen, you want to grab a coffee?”
Eddie doesn’t want to leave, he wants to climb into bed with his mate and his pup and never leave them, but he also recognizes that instinct for what it is; batshit. “I’d fucking love one.”

Have you ever taken a jigsaw puzzle, put it all together except for one piece, and then thrown that very last fucking piece, the one you absolutely needed, into a lake? It is here that two different kinds of people emerge. You are either exuberant at flexing your power, however limited, over an arbitrary set of rules... or you are utterly distraught that the thing will never be perfect.
Even after all these years, I don't know which one I would be. I want my projects to kick ass, just like everyone else's, but I also don't want to be a slave to them. That's what happened to Ranger Rick down the block, when he became obsessed with making sure every single bolt on his Ford Ranger was torqued to perfection. He scuffed one on the sill plate while he was torquing it, and something broke inside him. Pulled all the bolts right out, sent them to plating. Now he has several ziploc bags of beautifully cleaned and plated bolts and a big pile of rusty parts that are never going to form a truck again. I don't want that life for me.
Sometimes I like my things to be a little imperfect. Dent in the fender. Scratch on the windshield from driving through that cornfield to get away from the cops. That way, I don't get so mad when an errant shopping cart smashes into the bumper (because I was doing donuts in the grocery store parking lot again.) And I'll always have something reasonable to fix, not like Rick, who just looks at his driveway-occupying light truck frame and starts to weep.
Don't get me wrong, though. I would still be insanely upset if you took the nice turbo I've been saving in my basement for 25 years and threw it into the river. One of these days I'm gonna put that on a car, I swear. I just gotta get the perfect one.

Hey, sorry to bother you. Is there any chance you could do some more writing on the fic about being able to reach where the bots can't? Maybe them seeking out more and more chances to get help with it so they can feel them again (once again sorry to bother im not used to doing asks lol)
My first ask that I've actually finished! It took a few days, but I got it done. Hope you enjoy this anon!
Being able to reach where the bots can't Pt.2
After the men on base found out you could squeeze into Optimus's engine space and reach where they couldn't, they would call on you for assistance quite often.
Once after a battle, they were giving Optimus a thorough lookover for any serious damage when someone spotted leaking enerjon pooling underneath him. There was enough for everyone to get a bit worried. One guy spotted you walking into the hangar and yelled for you. The tone of his voice was enough for your happy face to twist with worry.
You sprinted over and bent down to look where they were pointing. Heart tightening at the sight, without hesitation, you slid underneath him to look. Finding a dripping trail of the blue fluid, you sat up on your knees and leaned against the inside of his wheel. "I need some electrical tape!" A hand tapped your side, and you grabbed the roll immediately, pulling out a long strip and tearing it off with your teeth.
Reaching up, you felt for the torn cables and hoses. Finding a matching pair, you quickly pressed the open ends together and wrapped them tightly to seal them. You did that for the other ones till you didn't see any more bleeding. Your heart racing in your chest, you leaned back against the inside of his wheel again and asked for a clean cloth. You wiped your hands clean and gently cleaned any surface of his engine that had drying enerjon.
His shocks creaked as the tension in his frame was released. The cables still hurt, but with your gentle touch, that was quickly forgotten.
-------
Crosshairs didn't like the feeling of things stuck in his plating, but if it meant possibly getting you to touch him in order to remove it, then he could tolerate it. Now he didn't do it on purpose it really was accidental. Nevertheless, he called you over for some assistance in removing the offending plant matter.
Once again, you leaned over into his engine space and felt around for anything out of place. Feeling the soft texture of a leaf, you touched your way down to the branch it was attached to and gave it a tug. You managed to pull it free, but the end was broken off somewhere inside the mechanics of his engine.
He was too low to the ground for you to slip underneath, so you called another person nearby to get you a set of carjacks. A minute or two later, they ran up with two heavy jacks in hand. Laying on the concrete, you felt underneath his bumper for parts of his frame you could use to lift him. Sliding the jacks into position, you cranked them both a bit at a time till his front end was up high enough for you to safely slip underneath.
Flashlight in hand, you scanned the underside of his engine for the green of leaves. Spotting one poking out, you slowly pulled it till the rest of the branch came free. "Is that all of it?"
"Yeah, that feels like all of it." With that, you slid out from underneath him tossing the branch to the side and starting to release the jacks. They slowly racked down till he was on his wheels, and you pulled them away.
He transformed and tested his movements a bit. With a grumbled thank you from him, you went on with your previous work.
-------
Bumblebee had a plan in motion. He'd purposefully gotten dirty so you would help clean him. He waited outside the hangar for you to arrive and honked his horn to grab your attention.
When you saw him rolling towards you, absolutely caked in mud, you had to do a double take. "What in the world did you get into bee?" You chuckle, shaking your head at his antics.
"Can you.. wash.. me?"
"You have a wash station inside bee. Why do you want me to wash you?"
A voice clearly from an old movie answered you. "It's gotten old darling"
"So you just want to change things up a bit?"
A happy whirring answered you. You sighed. "Well, I suppose I have the time. Just park by the wash station so the hose can reach you. I'll grab some stuff."
"So, do you want the water cold or hot?"
🎶"Shawty fire burnin' fire burnin'."🎶
You let out a snort at his music reference. "Ok, hot it is." You sprayed him down, trying to remove as much dried mud as possible before using the sponges. Surprisingly, you got almost everything off with the hose alone. Dunking a sponge into your bucket of warm soapy water, you splashed soap over his hood, following behind with circular motions. Scrubbing anything too stubborn with a wet cloth.
He was definitely enjoying this. Your hands all over him and the warm water running over his plating. It was over too soon, though, and you dumped the bucket in the nearby drain after giving him a thorough spray down to remove any leftover suds.
"Sorry bee, you'll have to get your undercarriage cleaned in the wash station. It's too hard for me to wash under there."
"That's alright."
He watched you walk away through a set of double doors nearby and then drove into the wash station, letting it blast his undercarriage with cool water.
You chuckled to yourself as you walked down the hallway. You knew exactly why he'd gotten so dirty, and you thought it was cute how he tried to play it off.
-------
Rachet had gone out with Bumblebee and Raf after Optimus suggested he take a break from the deskwork to stretch his "legs". He'd grumbled about it but relented. When he returned, there was some mud splattered on his plates that he didn't pay any mind to. When Arcee commented on it, he brushed her off, saying that he'd get cleaned up later.
You arrived at base after bee picked you up from work. And as soon as you saw the grumpy medic standing at his desk with mud on his white and rusty red paint, you rolled your eyes. Figures he'd be too engrossed in work to even shower.
Motherly instincts taking over you called his name with no response. A little louder the second time. "Rachet!" He didn't look at you, but this time, he answered. "What? I'm busy!"
"You need to wash off."
"Can't right now, there's too much to do."
"Rachet, I will spray you if I have to."
"Sorry, still too busy."
You let out an annoyed growl. Then, an idea popped into your head. You ran off to find some tools.
Slightly out of breath, you placed the buckets on the floor behind rachet and dragged an extra long hose to the same spot after hooking it to a nearby spicket. Turning on the water, you ran to the end with the spray nozzle and, without warning, sprayed him in the back. He jumped, letting out a yelp at the cold water. Whipping around, he glared down at you.
"Hey, I tried to warn you. Now transform so I can get all that dry mud off you." He rolled his optics, letting out a grumble of annoyance. Relenting, he transformed, and you smiled in satisfaction.
"Just be quick about it." You got to work spraying him down and sudsing him up. You had to sit on your knees on his tire to reach the center of his hood. Your chest pressing into him as you reached for the awkward spot. Internally, he was freaking out about it.
This definitely felt nicer than the wash station, though, and eventually, he was relaxing on his shocks, enjoying your thorough cleaning.
Once you'd finished his chassis and tires, you put on some swimming goggles and slid under his side. He'd been so entranced by your touch on his panels that he hadn't even noticed you slip underneath him. When he felt your touch on his undercarriage, he jolted forward an inch in surprise.
"Woah, Rachet!"
"Sorry, I didn't realize you were under there." He tried to speak as normal as possible, but you noticed the slight crack in his voice. Gently, you started scrubbing the cables and other parts that made up his undercarriage. You immediately took note of how tense he'd become and listened to any sounds he made.
He kept as quiet as possible, but he was definitely feeling things he hadn't in a few centuries. Luckily, no one was in the main room of the base at the moment. Even so, he didn't want you or anyone else to hear the noises his body was trying to produce.
You could, every once in a while, make out stifled grunts and groans, which made you grin mischievously. Eventually, though, you had completely cleaned every inch of his undercarriage that your small hands and the cloth you used would allow. So reluctantly, you slid out from under him soaked with soap and grime all over.
You stretched, removing the goggles and ringing out some water from the bottom of your shirt. "Woo! Now I need a shower." He transforms, looking himself over for a moment. "Ahem, thank you, y/n." He held his fisted servo over his mouth, looking anywhere but at you. "I could tell you enjoyed yourself." He looked at you wide optics, and you grinned up at him, giving a wink and walking away to take a shower of your own.

japan’s summer persimmons kita shinsuke x fem!reader (fluff) m.list | wc: 1k | synopsis: based on 'good directions' by billy currington
the sun sits high in the sky, baring its bright rays down onto the country roads. the summer heat leaving a refracting effect, a wavy appearance to live through. some of the crops’ leaves start to wilt under the extreme heat. however, none of it seems to affect kita shinsuke. a wet rag is resting on his neck, straw hat blocking the sun from entering his eyes.
he sits comfortably in a folding chair, boots propped up onto a low stool. the pair of jeans he wears has rips and dirt caked into each stitch, matching his shirt that needs another soak. his arm rests on the increasingly hot truck bed, hand holding the farmer's almanac for the upcoming year.
very rarely will kita find himself selling out of his flatbed truck. but once the season starts getting to the end of the season, he needs to get rid of some of the extras. especially his persimmons which he sells at a discount. they're slightly deformed, perfectly edible by his standards, but unlikely to be sold at traditional grocery stores. and while they sell well, the past month has been too hot for people to stop.
however, today seems to be his day as another car drives up. it's a beautiful car, shiny with some mud on the wheels, the license plate written out to say 'tokyo'. the windows are slightly tinted as a few magnets bedazzle the back bumper. kita tilts back his hat, setting down the almanac onto the truck. taking in a deep sigh, he stands up, resting his hands on his hips.
the door opens and out steps you. you have a pair of sunglasses on, protecting you from the intense glare of the sun. your arm rests on the top of your car, a pair of stylish overalls’ straps rests on your shoulders. “hey! would you by any chance know how to get to the interstate?” you bring up your free hand, raising your sunglasses to see him better.
in this moment, kita was completely dumbfounded by you. the way you stood in the bright light, blocking some of the sun as a halo effect displays around you. it seemed as if a city angel made their way to his little bumpkin town. “the interstate? well there’s a caution light down yonder, a little country store stocked full of food,” he starts, taking a few steps towards your car, thumb moving to rest in his pocket.
“you have got to stop in and ask for ms. yamada’s green tea. shed love ya,” kita can’t help but feel his heart racing, a smile growing on your face, “now a left will take you to the interstate. but a right will bring you right back here to me.”
kita was never the forward type, but knowing that you’re from out of town, that he may never see you again. he just had to take a chance. it seems to work well as you tap the top of your car, still smiling ear to ear, “really, well i’ll ask ms. yamada her opinion of you and i’ll see which way life takes me.”
“before you ask her, just remind her who supplies her persimmons stock,” he tips his hat some, standing back as you duck into your car, rolling your eyes.
however, he can tell the way you do it is sarcastic, that there’s a little worm named kita who had entered your mind. he watches as you drive off with a dust cloud behind you, already holding the picture of you in his mind. the way the sunglasses framed your face, the movie star look that you held. it felt a little too good to be true, the way someone like you talked to someone like him.
there was something so different about you, kita being so used to the country appearances of his neighbors. but not just that, it’s the way you joined in, made a joke of your own. for him, it’s like you could be the yin to his yang. he grabs his hat, turning around to toss it into the back of his truck. quickly wondering how he could’ve missed your name.
something so critical, your name. and yet he was so enamored by your very being that he couldn’t remember to ask for something as simple as that. when he looks back up, your car is already past the light. and he knows that his old truck could never catch up with yours, especially with that bin of persimmons resting on top.
sitting back down in his seat, he rests his foot on his other knee, leaning his head back. a trail of sweat runs from his forehead to his neck, his mind wracking with slight embarrassment. believing you likely didn’t actually like him, that his words were just a little too forward, attitude just a little too ‘farmer’ for you. grabbing the almanac, he shakes his head slightly.
while bringing his hand up and rubbing his face, he looks up, taking in a deep breath. just as he’s about to open up the almanac and wish that that had never happened, he hears the roar of an engine coming from a distance. staring out at the car, kita wonders if the heat is finally getting to him, if that’s really your car.
as it turns into his long driveway, he can see that it’s you. the woman of his dreams, if he’s entirely honest. you stop the car near his, stepping out with a glass of what he can only believe is green tea. “i went past the caution light, found my way to ms. yamada. and, she vouches for you, and your persimmons,” you walk back to your trunk, setting your drink down.
“figured i just had to come back and give one a taste, what do you think, mr…?”
“kita, shinsuke. and i think they’re just about ripe for the picking, plus first few on the house for a beautiful woman,” he leans against his truck bed, a small smile tickling at his lips.

1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 Fastback
1969 was, effectively, the final year for the Shelby Mustang. By now assembly had shifted in Michigan from California where it was contracted out to A.O. Smith Corporation. Smith, an established Motor City contractor, had brought a level of serious manufacturing skill, supplier management, procedure and standards never seen at Shelby’s facility where LAX met the vibrant (and sometimes extreme) subculture of Venice, California.
Now largely designed and specified by Ford staffers, the 1969 Shelby Mustang was drastically different visually from the standard Mustangs, with a completely different nose and grille, a wide rectangular opening with blacked out grille flanked by 7” headlights and with Shelby’s characteristic driving lights now smaller rectangular pieces below the attractive, but largely ineffective, bumper. The special Shelby hood had five ducts, three NACA-style surface ducts replaced the complicated but entertaining shaker hoods of years gone by to supply cold air directly to the engine air intake and two extractors at the back of the hood relieving underhood pressure and exhausting heated air in front of the windshield.
A surface duct behind the headlights and a scoop behind the door and in front of the rear wheel arch that was ducted to the rear brakes continued the performance theme. The rear panel was completely different from the Mustang, housing a set of 1965 Thunderbird sequential taillights with the rear license plate placed between them and including a small ducktail spoiler. The area under the bumper where standard Mustangs carried their license plate contained two rectangular outlets for the Shelby’s dual exhaust system. Standard wheels were unique 5-spoke Mag Stars with alloy centers and chrome steel rims.
Under the hood lay the 428 Cobra Jet which had powered the ’68 Shelby GT500KR. Both Ford and Shelby recognized the superiority of the high performance CJ and made it the standard engine for 1969’s Shelby Mustangs.
At the end of the 1969 model year 789 Shelby Mustangs were in-process at A.O. Smith. They were visually updated with black hood stripes and a chin spoiler and given new VINs. Otherwise the 1970s were exactly the same as the ‘69s making these two years essentially identical examples of the end of the Shelby Mustang series which had begun only a scant six years before.
Avidly sought by collectors and obsessively documented by the Shelby American Automobile Club, most Shelby Mustangs are well known and have well known histories. Occasionally, however, a example appears which has been out of sight for years. Even more rarely it turns out to have been little used and continuously maintained by a thoughtful and caring single owner for nearly forty years.
The Black Jade 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 Sportsroof fastback offered here is one of those rare and highly desirable cars. It was delivered new to Ford’s dealer in Yokohama, Japan, Marubeni Motors K.K., and was sold thereafter to its first, and only, owner in Japan. It has been repainted in the original color once but is otherwise completely original, as delivered and has only 84,941km on its metric-calibrated export speedometer (52,779 miles.) Its sympathetic maintenance and care shows throughout in its clean, straight, rust-free condition.
Power of course comes from the 428 cubic inch Cobra Jet Ram Air V-8 engine which Ford and Shelby conservatively rated at 335 horsepower at 5,200rpm and a gut-wrenching 440 lb-ft torque at 3,400rpm. It puts the power through Ford’s highly regarded C-6 automatic transmission and Traction-Lok differential with high speed 3.00:1 gearing that takes full advantage of the CJ engine’s torque. In addition to the highly desirable drivetrain specification it is loaded with options including the Visibility Group, Goodyear white letter tires, Sport Deck folding rear seat, power front disc brakes, power steering, tilt steering column, Selectaire air conditioning, AM/8-track stereo radio, tinted glass, deluxe belts, tachometer and trip odometer.
It is finished in one of the Shelby Mustang’s most attractive colors, Black Jade. The interior and high back buckets seats are upholstered in black Clarion Knit/Corinthian vinyl that complements with Black Jade exterior.
It returned to the U.S. in 2006 but has never been titled by its current owner so it remains a one-owner car. Its absolutely clear history, one-owner provenance, highly original condition with known mileage and extensive options list are attributes shared by few Shelby Mustangs of this age. This is a rare opportunity for an astute collector to acquire a particularly significant, unmolested Shelby Mustang from the last, and most highly developed, series.

Effeffe Berlinetta
Berlinetta is a name of the past, a name that conjures up a very specific type of car: a high-performing sports car with closed bodywork, a 2-seater (or 2+2 at most). The name Berlinetta embodies all the philosophy of the first car made by Effeffe. A car built today in exactly the same way as craftsmen moulded the famous GTs in the late 1950s: the mechanics borrowed from the series and redesigned to suit new needs, a hand-made chassis and bodywork. All starting from a blank sheet. An original car with a strong personality, in form and in deed, which is the best possible homage to the skill of these craftsmen. A generation we have perhaps forgotten, that offered the Italian car tradition - and the history of motoring generally - plenty in terms of uniqueness, charm and design. A product built and finished by hand, like in the past, with a tubular chassis, hand-beaten aluminium bodywork and wire wheels, seeking to guess and please the taste of the owner, expressing a timeless character.
The Berlinetta prototype was born in 2014, little more than a scale model. Made and finished, but not running: the mechanics are approximate, and it has never really been fine-tuned. But it is beautiful. An authentic time-machine. It seems as if it has just been found in a hay barn and dusted down. In addition, being practically a style model, its lines are pure and smooth, not “dirtied” by license plates or indicators. So beautiful, in fact, that, almost as a game, the Frigerio brothers sent a few photos to the people in charge of the Concorso di Eleganza di Villa d’Este. And, a surprise, they sent an invitation to present the Berlinetta in the Concept Cars category. A dream within a dream, the self-built car made its début and the world’s most prestigious and glamorous elegance competition.
Along with the interest and pleasure shown immediately by the public and the media, this would have gone to anyone’s head. But as we know, the Frigerio brothers aren’t the sort of people who sit on their laurels, and they decided the play another chip. They realised that their idea could become something more than just an adventure, and decided to exploit their years of relationships, acquaintances, friendships and skill to set up a workshop to produce the Berlinetta in small series. An exclusive, tailored and fully customisable product. Built as in the past by a handful of old craftsmen wanting to get back in the game, but with the help of the best technologies available today.
The lines of the Berlinetta need no explanation. They are a well-balanced mix of classic, late-50s stylistic elements, from the muscular bumpers to the oval grille, a hint of rear fins and the double bubble roof. The definition of the lines of the car talks of an approach that is about as poetically anachronistic as you can get. The Frigerio brothers started by placing the mechanics and seats on the floor, tracing the basic outline around them with chalk, then gradually building the chassis, welding, cutting and welding again. Following the curves of the tubular metal frame, they then moved onto the bodywork, beaten entirely by hand in aluminium according to the artisanal sensitivity of Vittorio, who has a good hand, assisted by a few panel beaters with forty years’ experience. And from there, the project moved on in a kind of reverse engineering, working backwards by making 3D scans of the shapes to produce the drawings and designs.
Style and proportions have that instantly recognisable Italian flair, as does the passenger compartment, entirely leather-lined with a dashboard painted in the same colour as the car, and the Alfa Romeo-derived mechanics. Who, working according to the Fia Gr2 specifications of the 1971 European Touring challenge, they were able to achieve around 200 HP at 6800 rpm, with maximum torque of around 30 Kg/m at 4400 rpm, on the road with no technological support.

Batman Rogues' Cars: My headcanons (with pictures)
Riddler:
My headcanon is that he doesn't have a license because he can't pass the driver's test. He is very angry about that. (He still drives though.) He is not the best driver.
Green Ford Capri

Joker:
He doesn't use this car for anything dangerous. This is more of his getting around town vehicle for when he wants to show off. The back is covered in bumper stickers, one being "my other ride is the batmobile" another is, "Arkham Patient, Gotham Impatient." and another being "is there life after death? Touch my car to find out!". Another one reads, "I've got a perfect body. It's in the trunk and it's beginning to smell." He is collecting them like pokemon cards. There are many others, but those are his favorites.
Chevrolet Bel-Air
License plate: HAHAHA

Bane:
Saw the batmobile and wanted one for himself. Bought the next best thing that money could buy. Armored car with pepper spray, night vision, smoke screen, electrified handles, reinforced suspension and more. When other rogues see this car, most of them pick one up for themselves to give them a fighting chance against the Bat.

Rubber Mats & Bumper Plates Sets
Rubber is among the most commonly used materials worldwide, and it is used across every segment of the market worldwide. Mats are one kind of material that can make extensively usage of. Since rubber is affordable, long-lasting, and able to be molded and colored according to customers’ specifications. Rubber matting is divided into various categories based on its usage. This way, we can provide everything, from fitness mats to mats for bathrooms to ones used in kitchens.
Rubber Mats primary function is to ensure your feet are dry and free of dirt. It is more of a safety product, not an aesthetic item. They are especially beneficial if you have children or the elderly at home, as falls can be catastrophic. Children, however, are prone to bruising themselves due to falls, regardless of their surroundings. The most basic form of matting made from rubber offered worldwide is the simple mat for the entrance. The various types of matting are generally made from a rigid rubber material to extend its life span. In addition, they can be utilized for outdoor use as well as indoors.
Tumblr media
Kitchen Matting
The kitchen is among two areas in the home that use rubber mats. This is because a kitchen is a place with a lot of activity. It’s not unusual for the kitchen floor to become wet and oily after a couple of minutes of preparation. This is why this space could be a danger for pedestrians. The majority of kitchen mats have holes that permit liquids to drain away. These mats also have wider grip varieties due to the thread patterns used on the carpet. They also need to be able to take on grease easily, and you’ll often see them advertised as “heavy-duty kitchen mats.”
Bathroom Matting
The bathroom is a different area which is extremely risky because its floors are often wet. This is why accidents and slips frequently happen in bathrooms. Most bathroom mats are made of substances that absorb water exceptionally effectively. However, more than being absorbent is needed. They must permit easy gripping in wet conditions. This is why the rubber is the most suitable material. The water hogs mats are one of the most sought-after bathroom designs currently available. They could also come with additional features that ensure dry floors, such as water dam borders that hold liquids efficiently. They’re usually elevated to keep feet away from the wet floor.
Gym Matting
The gym is another location that makes use of mats made of rubber. This is due to the massive amounts of moisture that come in sweat that the gym must deal with. They are a must-have safety device in these areas. The advancement in technology has enabled anti-fatigue mats that allow users to stay on their feet for extended periods without tiring out too fast. They can also be designed to ease back pain and generally are very comfortable for our feet.
Whatever the setting, it is clear that mats made of rubber have many advantages that are not typically found in mats composed of other substances.
There are certain essential things to look out for when buying bumper plates. One of the primary factors to consider is bounce. It should be a shallow bounce, to be exact. Specific bumpers, such as these Hi-Temp bumpers made by Rogue Fitness, give a high bounce. This isn’t ideal for Olympic lifting, Crossfitters, or powerlifters, as you want to avoid running after your bar. Also, you don’t want the weight of your work and provide an untrue indicator of your progress. But, some bumpers bounce off the ground with an unintentional bounce or with no bounce. These are the preferred types of bumper plates since they barely rise from the ground when they hit the ground. You won’t have to chase your bar around after it has landed when you purchase inexpensive bumpers if you need a different reason to copy what the pros do. The Olympics use Eleiko bumper plates with dead blow bounces and slow blow bounces.
Another aspect to think about when you are looking for bumpers to buy is what guarantees or standards they have as a firm. Do they ensure that plates stay within a certain number of pounds, like 10 grams or more? This is crucial when you’re throwing the weights over your head and need each muscle to be balanced. Pendlay has a dead-blow bounce bumper plate. Additionally, they also place their Bumper Plates Sets in Canada on high-sensitivity calibrated scales so that they deliver a top-quality plate. This is essential because if you buy the forty-five-pound container, you should wait to find a forty-six pounds plate arrive. A difference of five pounds on the other end of the bar could create a massive difference.
If you purchase from a company that adheres to strict guidelines and has all their details out for the world for the public to view and isn’t in the manner they claim, you’re on more credibility. However, these shops only have a few words with an exaggerated catchy slogan. Beware of this type of thing. Make sure you choose a seller who is fearless in spelling out all the specifics of the item you’re purchasing. You’ll be much more content when you buy bumper plates.

Anatomy of a Dalek
A Dalek is primarily made from Dalekanium and polycarbide and is technically a cyborg. To understand how a Dalek is created, see How Do Daleks Become Daleks?
Some Daleks will have variations on the below, but these aspects of a Dalek's anatomy are broadly applicable to most.
The Dome (aka dome section, head section, head dome) is attached to the neck via a docking clamp.
Eyestalk (aka eyepiece, eye antenna, tele-eye, eye-stick, optical stalk, sensory antenna, eyeball unit). The eyestalk is attached to the dome via a lens attachment, sitting on a pivot in a cowl. The eye itself is known as an eyelens. The eyestalk is covered in multiple insulator discs to protect it from radiation.
Luminosity dischargers (aka headlamp, radiation valve, dome light, vocaliser light, sound disc). It's not quite known how or why the luminosity dischargers sync up with Dalek speech, but they could be energy compensators, translation units, safety valves to release excess energy, or just lights to indicate when a Dalek's speaking.
Neck (aka grating section, upper grating section). Attached to the weapons platform via another docking clamp, or 'catch'.
Neck rings support the neck grille.
Neck grille (aka audio receptor grill, sensor grille, sensor mesh, sensor grid louvres) cover the mutant Dalek within.
Weapons Platform (aka shoulder platform, shoulder section).
Slats (aka solar power collection slats, solar slats, solar cells, shoulder slats, armour slats, sensor plates) are effectively solar panels that absorb energy to power the Dalek.
Gunstick (aka radiation gun, gun-rod, ray-gun, exterminator, blast-gun, energy gun, Dalek neutraliser, neutraliser, beam distributor, Dalek beam gun, Dalek gun, ruby ray blaster). Sits on a balljoint, controlled by armament circuits. Can be set to non-lethal, causing temporary paralysis, but maximum settings can split atoms apart. Some Daleks deliberately reduce the power of their gunstick so that the beam burns away the central nervous system outside inwards, so victims die within 2-3 seconds in complete agony.
Manipulator arm (aka tactile arm, arm-stick). Usually sits on a balljoint. Attachments can be swapped out for various tools depending on the needs of the Dalek. Some attachments include the plunger, flamethrower, seismic detector, electrode unit, sieve, syringe, blow torch, cutting tool, another gunstick, or a claw, or basically anything they need.
Base Unit (aka travel unit). Contains the motive unit, the elevation unit, and thrusters.
Sense spheres (aka sensor globes, sensor arrays, bumps) can do pretty much whatever you want them to, including detecting emissions, monitoring the surrounding environment, and acting as self-destruct mechanisms. They can also function as sockets for cables and wires, and some say the sensor globes are capable of free flight, allowing them to provide remote battlefield intelligence.
Bumper (aka fender). Possibly containing proximal alert systems to detect other Daleks, but more likely just softening collisions.

"Well, at least we got data from inside the vortex, that's always fun." Sarah chirped from her curled up position inside the Warlock, the wing doors open as Riley was elbow deep in the engine. Oil and grime on her face as her hair started to fall from its ponytail. Bare fingers going through components and wires, yanking, pulling, and throwing over her shoulder. Grabbing the extra parts she needed from the paper plate set up on the corner of the open hood. "The doctors also said you need to take it easy!"
“I wouldn’t call ex-pre-med Sam who gave me my stitches a doctor, but okay, besides I am taking it easy!” She could feel the continued stares of every chaser in the lot, new or veteran. She knew what this vehicle meant not only to her but also to the community. The Warlock had been going since before she was born. She's replaced the engine and just about every part in it before at least twice. It was a money pit. It would be cheaper to just make a new one. Their grants would pay for it easily, but she couldn't let go of this one. She wouldn't.
She grunted as she leaned over a little farther, arm almost completely swallowed by the huge piece of machinery. She knew this vehicle like the back of her hand, and it showed. She pulled back and grabbed a wrench from an undergrad, muttering a 'thanks' under breath before tightening something and then putting her flashlight in her mouth to wrap some wires in electrical tape. Ripping out old ones and putting in new ones. She kicks the bumper and bangs the wrench against a component to the side. Leaning around side and wiping her hands off on a rag.
"Try it now Sarah!" Riley called, her head bowing down as her eyes closed. "Come on, come on, come on." She muttered under her breath.
When it roars to life her head snapped up and she fist pumped with a whoop, Sarah coming out to hug her. Swaying them back and forth.
"Not finished yet." Riley looked to Sarah and smirked, the brunette let the blonde go, allowing her to carefully climb into the front seat, flipping up the switch over the trigger for the spikes. "You filming this?" She called out, a little louder than normal, so Sarah could hear it.
"You bet your cute behind I am!" Was Sarah's response. And Riley chuckled inside the vehicle, shaking her head.
"Spikes deploying on 3!" Riley called out, knowing what was about to happen. "2!" The whole lot had joined in, the chorus of voices in the night one of the best sounds Riley had ever heard. "1!" It reminded her just how many people her dad had inspired or had loved him, that his memory lived on. Through her. "Deploy! Deploy! Deploy!"
The sound of the two foot long solid spikes striking through the asphalt sent a shock through the cab and Riley laughed raucously at the sensation. Next, she swung herself out of the vehicle with a huge smile, laughing some more when she felt arms around her and the next thing she knows she was on Daniels shoulders. The college junior grinning up at her with bright eyes, Riley looked back to the lot and took in all the chasers for a second. Feeling her eyes prickle a bit, her smile going wobbly for a second before she pulled it together.
"It lives!" Riley screamed to the parking lot, throwing up her left fist in the air in celebration.
"It lives!" Her hoard of undergrads echo, jumping and screaming together. Jenny, the only other theatre major on their team, who was corrupted by Sarah on her way out following it with the evilest witch cackle Riley had ever heard.
The parking lot erupted into cheers and Riley subtly wiped around her eyes as she was lowered to the ground. Small laughs still bubbling past her lips as she shared in a few more moments of pure joy with her team. The one she put together and chose, everyone really becoming like a family over the months of prep for this storm season making this moment all that much better. Because they believed in her, they thought she could do this, they supported her and drive. They would never dream of telling her to slow down, to give up on her dreams.
"Wonderful, now will you go shower? You are literally still covered in your own blood." Sarah winced and gestured to Riley and how she was still in her bloodied, cut up tank top, and dusty cargo pants from the chase earlier.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Riley swiped at her and Sarah dodged, her still damp hair just out of reach of Riley's oil stained skin. "I'm going, I'm going."
"Good, because you smell like storm and diesel and it's giving me a migraine." Sarah smiled and gestured to the staircase down the walkway from where they were able to get the Warlock. After it decided to stop running a mile before they got back to the motel. They had to have it hooked up to the tech van while pushing it with six of the biggest guys they had that last mile with Riley in the driver's seat steering it. It was horrible. "Also there's pizza on the table, eat something."
"Yes mom." Riley dragged out and turned while taking off, feeling higher than she had in months while covered in mud, grime, and blood. She had barely taken a couple steps before she ran into another body and her hand darted to her side as she hissed and took a couple steps back to steady herself.
"I'm so sorry-"
"It's fine Kate, I shoulda been watching better." Riley's accent came out a little heavier than she meant because of the stinging radiating through her ribs. But she still grinned, even if in pain, nothing could ruin her good mood right now.
"How are you, I saw you get hit, I thought-" Kate cut herself off, looking to the ground for a second, "I'm happy you're okay, looked pretty rough out there."
"Thanks." Riley went to lay a hand on Kate's shoulder but stopped herself, Kate saw the movement and chuckled. "I would but uh- I'm kind of dirty, sorry." Riley laughed, though her grin carried an awkward stress in the corners as she tried to keep smiling, wiping her palm down her thigh as if trying to clean it against the dusty fabric would actually do anything.
"You headed up?" Kate motioned to the staircase, resituating her backpack on her shoulder.
"Yeah, thanks." Riley started walking and Kate followed, side by side in easy silence. "Sorry if I made you uncomfortable earlier, with my questions. I tend to let myself get carried away when I get curious."
"Oh, it's fine." Kate waved her off but Riley pushed on.
"No. It's not. My daddy raised me better than to go snoopin' in someone else's business. So, I apologize. Please just take it." Riley chuckled tightly, she couldn't take any more guilt, even just this one thing.
"Thank you." Kate breathed after taking a moment, meeting Riley at the bottom of the stairs before they both started up.
"There is pizza in my room if your hungry," Riley started, "Unless you already-"
"I haven't but I'm okay. Thank you though."
"Yeah, of course." Riley breathed, trying to remember when it suddenly became so hard to make friends. Turning the corner at the landing and stopping dead in her tracks when her name was called out. Well, a name she hasn't been called in a while.
"Rocky!"
"Rocket!"
Kate stopped as well, looking to Riley with eyebrows drawn tight, head tilting to the side, "Rocket?"
"Just an old nickname. Uh Hey guys." Riley waved, her smile tense but softening when her eyes met Lily's, "Hey Lils." Her eyes darted around the whole group in greeting before landing on the one pair she had hoped to avoid. "Owens."
Tyler worked his jaw when Riley's grin dropped and his last name spit from her lips.
"Go east, she said, the west will choke each other out, she said." He quipped, sarcastic grin on his handsome face. Hands pausing their work on the spinning sensor on top of his truck. His eyes cut to Kate for a split second before drilling back into Riley, "Hey Storm Par."
Kate frowned at him, her eyebrows pulling down as she rolled her shoulders back. Riley stepped a little in front of her, leaning her elbows on the siding.
"Well, I still didn't manage to throw you off the scent, did I?" Riley grinned, her eyes glinting in the dim lighting of the parking lot, anger festering under the surface. "I must be losing my touch."
"I-I wouldn't say that." A voice she hadn't heard in person before piped up from beside Tyler, his pink cheeks, big brown eyes, and warm looking skin all very inviting. His smile wide and carefree, she was a little jealous. "I mean, that was great, with the Warlock. Just awesome..." Boone trialed off, holding up a finger as his face went through a couple different emotions, Riley's anger simmering as she allowed herself to enjoy the show. Enjoying the new character. "Have you ever thought about, and hear me out here, putting rocket launchers on the Warlock?" The man punctuated the words 'rocket' and 'launchers' with his hands before gesturing to the chasing vehicle with her small army surrounding it, only the older undergrads still lingering.
Riley can't stop the laugh that bubbles from her lips, "No, I have not." She shakes her head a bit as a more bitter thought filtered in and it showed on her face as she wet her lips, "I'm not exactly trying to run around firing fireworks up into tornadoes. You know you could have caused a fire like that? The sparks could have gotten carried into the dry wheat field. People could have gotten hurt."
Boone's smile dimmed a little and he looked back to Tyler when Riley's eyes shifted from his. Locking onto the blonde, her words cutting his soul. The look of disappointment flashing in her eyes was just the twist of the knife.
"Tyler knew that wouldn't happen, that's what makes him famous." Boone defended his friend, a small frown on his face as he looked up to Riley.
"On Youtube?" Kate piped up for the first time, head tilting to the side as she also stared down the blonde now. Stepping up to Riley's side, mimicking her position.
"Yeah!" Boone got excited again, missing Kate's sarcasm and other members of the crew confirmed over 1 million now. Riley was impressed, last season they were no where near that. That was a far far away dream. A tinge of pride streaked through her chest and she shared a more genuine smile with Lily.
"Riley St. James correct? Just in case I include you in my article." Riley looked down into the spectacle covered eyes of the British reporter that was following Tyler around. Riley grinned, genuinely, not like he had ever done anything to her. Tyler huffed, biting down on the inside of his cheek to temp the green eyed monster.
"That's correct. At your service, if you need anything or these chuckles are giving you a hard time let me know, I'll straighten them out for ya okay?" Riley chuckled when Ben smiled up at her, nodding at her before looking to Kate.
"And your name? For the same reason, if you don't mind." Ben was so polite. So different than the rough and tumble rag tag team Tyler had created for himself.
"Just Kate is fine. Not Storm Par." Some low whistles come from the group when Kate bared her claws. Riley looked to her with raised eyebrows, her grin easy.
"Don't be fooled Ben, Riley is a tricky one. I'd bet Kate here is too." Tyler comments and Riley does her best to ignore him.
"You made a good call, you know, earlier. The other storm looked stronger, but the cap never broke." Boone complimented and Riley nodded.
"I'm sorry, what's a 'cap'?" Ben asked, looking like a confused puppy and Riley took a breath. Her mouth opening at the same time Dexter went to answer.
"It's a temperature inversion-" They both started at the same time, Riley's voice much more enthusiastic and Dexter zipped his mouth shut grinning up at her before gesturing up to her. Riley grinned bashfully, tucking some stray strands of hair behind her ear.
"It's a temperature inversion inside the mid-part of the lower atmosphere. Inversion meaning that the temperature of the air get's hotter as it rises instead of cooling like normal. It creates a stable environment that can and will keep a storm from forming or from getting severe. Sometimes when it's really strong looking, you can't always trust what's there." Riley explained, "That make sense?" She checked and Ben thought about it for a second, Riley glanced at Kate and rolled her shoulders back before continuing, "If not I have some videos on my channel that go over it in better detail, they're pretty short and sweet, and explain it in a more non-meteorology way." The Brit sent her an appreciative grin before nodding and thanking her.
Lily taking a sneaky picture of Tyler and how he was smiling a bit, catching him perfectly as he glanced up at the dirty blonde on the landing.
"So where did you all meet?" Kate gestured to Riley and the others, "Did you all study Meteorology at the U of A?" It was quiet for a second before the majority of the group was laughing. Riley doing her best to keep her amusement at bay. Kate looking to Riley confused, while Riley could only give the woman a kind grin.
"Yeah. No. None of us did. But Tyler did. He's a cowboy scientist. Got a natural feel for this kind of stuff." Boone threw an arm over Tyler's shoulders from his spot next to the blonde in the cab of the red truck.
"Him?" Kate asked immediately, her filter obviously failing in that moment. Riley barked out a laugh before clapping her hand over her mouth. Feeling her cheeks gone bright red. Kate looked to her with raised eyebrows.
"Nothin' uh, I'm in the PhD program right now. But uh, their crew isn't like yours, or even mine really." Riley started to explain before Tyler cut her off. She wanted to kill him.
"We don't need fancy PhD's and gadgets to do what we do." Tyler looked up from where he had previously been looking, in his head about something. His words struck a particularly soft spot and when his eyes cut to her, he could tell the effect his words had on Riley and he wanted to kick himself. But he pushed on, being the asshole she though he was, "I bet these guys have seen more tornadoes than anyone in this lot combined. Minus Riley, she's been doing this since she was 12, she doesn't count."
"Nice Tyler. Still the same I see."
"No need to fix what ain't broken." He grinned caustically and Riley frowned. Her mood officially ruined.
"We apparently have different definitions of broken." Riley grinned right back, eyes squinted in fury.
"Do you think we'll see another one tomorrow?" Ben asked, putting himself right in the firing line, poor guy. He couldn't tell they were all walking on the mine field created by Tyler and Riley issues.
"Oh absolutely!" Riley nodded a little too enthusiastically.
"It's an outbreak baby." Tyler answered over the top of her and Riley took a deep breath.
"Where are you chasing tomorrow?" Lily asked, "It'd be cool to see you out there again, it's been so long, almost felt like the good old days."
Riley softened again and was about to answer honestly before Tyler was kicking up dust again, "Oh no, we're not falling for that again. I mean, it may feel like she's back but she's not part of the crew anymore, we don't need her to navigate for us."
That was her limit.
"Fuck you, Tyler." Riley spit and stormed up the stairs, ignoring the calls of her name.
"Well, you know what they say, you can always trust a guy who puts his face on a t-shirt." Kate rolled her eyes and went up after Riley. The reaction of the chasing group below them dulled in Riley's ears, "Hey, you okay?" Kate called, getting to Riley's door just before she closed it.
Riley was obviously just putting on a brave face when she waved Kate off, and the slightly older blonde frowning but taking it. It's not like she had a right to dig. What was it Riley said earlier about not getting into other people's business?
But she had so many questions, specifically about the trailer of empty barrels and Dorothy on the back of them.
But that wasn't her business.
~~*~~
Riley's shower had been quick, used to hurrying through everything just in case a storm warning rolled through. It was something that Tyler always complained about, that she never allowed herself time to breathe, to rest. A workaholic who had no sense of self-preservation. Is how she believed he phrased it.
She did feel better though, now that her skin was clean, and her clothes weren't stiff with dried blood. Having changed into another tank top, this one a medium toned brown with a white embroidered cloud and a couple yellow stars on the chest, a pair of blue jeans, and her work boots. Which were just heavy-duty hiking boots really.
Padding to the table after she tied her shoes, pawing at the open pizza box, pulling out a slice of pepperoni, and taking a bite. Building her courage to head back down to the parking lot, there was still work to be done tonight. She had to prep the mixture all over again, as she was the only one who knew the measurements besides Sarah, and Sarah was already working on crunching the numbers for tomorrow's storm cells and the data they needed to get out asap. There were some data sets from inside a vortex, due to her, her dad, and her current team. There was no one else doing this kind of research right now and that's why grants kept coming their way.
And then she had to make sure the undergrads with responsibilities didn't shuck them off till the morning when they were planning an early start.
Making a checklist, she finished her pizza, tossing the rock-hard crust back into the box for Sarah who liked to knaw on it like a fucking dog to a bone. Riley was honestly too scared to ask about it, psycho behavior, truly.
Her hand hovered over the door nob and slowly opened it, locking it behind her and taking a breath as she approached the stairs. Ignoring Tyler's looks as she walked past the first landing without even a glance in his direction.
"You look better, than before. Less tired, less bloody." His voice stopped her in its tracks, the genuine concern she could hear. Picturing the way that he used to look at her. After she had gone down another research rabbit hole and hadn't slept in 48 hours, probably also hadn't eaten in that time either. Soft concern and gooey warmth dripping over her every frayed nerve as he would drag her to bed and make her comfortable before pulling up the covers around them and holding her so tight she thought there was never going to be a time it wouldn't be like that.
"Thanks." She whispered over her shoulder and darted down the rest of the way.

Headcanons for the Shaw Pack’s Favorite Carnival Activities and Foods
David: David’s favorite activity at a carnival is the Ring Toss. He knows that most games are rigged, but somehow, David always manages to excel at that game. He strikes the perfect balance of strength and finesse. When asked which prize he’d like, David always lets Angel pick something out for him because (since their mating), Angel suggests that they donate the stuffed animal they selected to the pups’ room in the Shaw Pack den, so lots of kids can enjoy. Their mere idea of using the prize for the young pups makes David’s heart melt. As for his go-to fair food? Fried dough with a generous sprinkle of sugar. There’s no such thing as nutritious fair food, and frankly, if there were, David would not want to touch it. After all, it’s not often that he goes to a carnival. While he’s there, he might as well enjoy and indulge!
Angel: Angel is a big Bumper Cars fan. They love to get behind the wheel and take down anyone and everyone they can. No one is safe from their bumper-car road-rage, even (especially) the pack. After their victory, they will track down a sausage sandwich with grilled onions and peppers to celebrate.
Asher: Asher always looks forward to the Scrambler ride, because no matter how hard he tries, the pattern of movement always confuses him, which is what excites and thrills him. He habitually orders a large plate of nachos with every kind of cheese (or ‘cheese-product’) to share with the pack. Not only does Asher love nachos, but he also enjoys letting his friends have a bite. A bonus, his friends will usually let him sneak a bite of their food as repayment, meaning Asher gets to sample the whole carnival.
Babe: Babe does not do rides because they get horrible motion sickness. They do, however, love playing all the games. Their favorite game to play is the Water Shooting Game, because they always do well. Since Babe saves money by not going on the rides, they are able to play almost every game and usually return home with many prizes of all sizes. Their favorite food to eat is caramel corn, because it’s somehow always better when eaten at a carnival than at home.
Milo: Milo makes a beeline for the Strongman Game whenever he attends a fair. He makes the bell ding every time, much to the surprise and chagrin of the employees. In fact, once, after Sweetheart declared that a stuffed gray wolf plush (which happened to reflect Milo’s own wolf form) was the cutest, best prize of the whole fair, Milo made it his mission to win. The plush, named Hammer, now resides on Milo’s and Sweetheart’s bed. (In fact, this is a headcanon I developed and discussed in an old fic, Cross My Heart.) Afterwards, Milo is hot to trot to get his hands on a nice, hot, salted soft pretzel. It’s filling, delicious, and quintessential to the fair experience.
Sweetheart: Although one might expect Sweetheart to enjoy funhouses or horror houses, their favorite carnival activity is actually the Carousel. They walked up and down to seek out the perfect horse, ideally one with unique markings and/or close to the outer edge so that they can wave to their friends on each rotation. Sweetheart never leaves a carnival without eating a candy apple. They can’t resist the sweet treat, and love how convenient it is on a stick.
Darling: Darling adores a session in the Photo Booth. They ask (or sometimes, force) each of their friends to take a few pictures with them. Darling is a master at posing, always ensuring they get a wide range of shots showcasing all the fun they have. After the fair, Darling will copy the photos, keeping one set for themselves and giving the other one to the person. Having a physical reminder of the fun memories is so meaningful to Darling, especially if they begin to feel loneliness creep in. While at the fair, they usually opt for a corndog slathered in mustard. They have a very strong stomach.
Sam: Sam may be reluctant about crowds, noise, and being forced to convert your money into ‘tickets’ to hide how expensive everything, but even he enjoys a slow ride on the Ferris Wheel. It’s a beautiful opportunity to see all the stars above and all the hustle-and-bustle below, especially when it’s Darling sitting next to him in the seat, holding his hand in theirs. Ever one with a sweet tooth (or sweet fang, rather), Sam usually gets a hot fudge sundae to eat, savoring each spoonful.
BONUS!
Gabe: A bit of an adrenaline-junkie, Gabe always enjoyed the Roller Coaster. David clearly heard the familiar howl in his father’s voice as he dropped from the apex. Gabe always opted for french fries when it was his turn to order, but in reality, it was his job to eat whatever anyone else ordered and didn’t like or couldn’t finish. It was a job at which he performed efficiently.
Marie: Marie never leaves a fair without getting her face painted. She usually asks for a wolf. Her favorite food is the pack of sandwiches she smuggled into the fair by hiding them in her large purse, because fair food is too greasy, too expensive, and (probably) prepared with too many health/cleanliness violations for her to even think about putting it in her mouth.
