There are 7 different types of leg press machines you need to know.
There are 7 different types of leg press machines you need to know.
Leg day is important to us. We love the part of the gym that people use to burn their legs.
You've probably heard about leg presses, but do you know how many different types there are?
You're in for a treat if that's the only thing you wanted to see!
This article will explore seven different types of leg press machines you should be aware of.
Leg press machines are great for building strength, power and muscle in the lower body, whether you're an experienced gym goer or you're just starting out.
There are leg press machines for every fitness goal and level.
Let's start and learn about the various types of leg presses that will help you to achieve a new level of fitness.
What are the different leg press machine types?
Click to skip to section
45 degree Linear Leg Press
The 45 Degree Linear Leg Press, a popular machine, allows users to push a sled with weight at a 45 degree angle.
The leg press machine that is commonly found in commercial gyms is a plate-loaded type.
Horizontal Seated Leg Press
Horizontal Seated leg press is a machine used while seated with legs out in front.
This type of machine is usually a pin-selectorized design and provides a more supported and comfortable leg press.
Angled Leverage Leg Press
The Angled Leverage Leg Press uses a lever system to provide resistance. This machine can be found in many gyms. It allows a controlled and smooth leg press with a wide range of motion.
Dual-Function Leg Press (Leg Press/Hack Squat)
Dual Function Leg Press Machine can be used both as a leg press or hack squat.
The leg press machine of this type is designed to fit into home gyms. It offers users more versatility and less space than two machines.
Vertical Leg Lift
The Vertical Leg press machine is a machine which allows the user to perform a leg pressing movement in a horizontal position while lying on their back.
The leg press machines are typically plate-loaded. They can be a great challenge for the legs while providing ultimate safety to your neck and back.
Compact Leg Press
Compact Leg Press machine is designed to be smaller than other leg press machines.
Leg press machines are often found in home gymnasiums. They can be used to provide a challenging workout for the legs in a small space and at a lower price.
Isolateral Leg Press
The Isolateral Leg Press Machine allows the user to independently work each leg.
Leg press machines are often found in commercial gyms. They can be used to correct leg imbalances, and provide a high level of isolation for advanced lifters.
45 Degree Linear Leg Press
The 45 Degree Linear Leg Press Machine, a popular machine, allows users to push weights on a sled with a 45 degree incline.
The machine is also known as incline leg presses, linear leg presses, or 90 degree leg presses. It gets its name because of the angle at which the tyres are positioned.
This type of leg presses can hold a lot of weight, and is often used in commercial settings.
The sled is straight and the user must focus on their lower body while maintaining a strong back and neck.
The 45 Degree Linear Leg Press sled is mounted on linear bearings which move along a fixed track. This helps provide a smooth, consistent motion.
The user sits with their backs against a pad, and their feet resting on a sled. This'sled' is then pushed outward to complete the leg pressing movement.
The 45 Degree Linear Leg Press comes with a plate that allows users to adjust the weight according to their resistance level.
How to use a 45 degree linear leg press
Here's a guide to help you use a 45-degree linear leg press effectively if you're a new user. The machines may vary in appearance, but they are generally used the same way.
You can adjust the weight of the machine to the desired resistance level.
As you sit, place your back on the pad with your feet on the sled.
Put your feet on the sled shoulder-width apart, your toes slightly pointing outward.
Slowly lower the weight of the sled towards your body by releasing the safety locks.
Straighten your legs and push the sled back away from you.
Repeat the desired number of reps by slowly lowering the weight towards your body.
45 Degree Linear Leg Press Benefits
Lower Body Isolation
This 45 degree linear leg press, like all other leg pressing exercises, will help you build strength and power in your legs by targeting your quads hamstrings and glutes.
There is Little or No Spinal Compression
The 45 Degree Linear Leg Press is a great alternative to traditional barbell squats. It can help reduce spinal compression and therefore be a better option for people with back injuries or pain.
Controlled Movement
The 45 Degree Linear leg press has linear bearings that provide a smooth, consistent motion. This allows users to remain in control during the entire exercise.
Customizable resistance
A plate-loaded machine allows users to adjust the weight according to their fitness level.
Pre-Cation Safety Built-In
In most cases, the leg press won't crush you if you miss a rep or if an accident occurs. Leg press machines are generally safe to use, even though it is best to avoid them.
Horizontal Seated Leg Press
The horizontal seated foot press is a pin-selectorized machine which requires the user sit horizontally and either push weight forward with their legs, or push backwards from a stationary feet plate.
It is very easy to mount the horizonal version. You just need to sit on it, and press.
It is easy to switch weights from one set or user to another with the selectorized weight stack included in the machine.
It is perfect for beginners or rehab clients, as you can limit the depth of the machine (range-of-motion) in order to reduce any risks.
The safest machine of the lot is this leg press.
How to use a horizontal seated leg press
When you press, adjust the seat so your knees are roughly at a 90 degree angle.
Choose the weight you would like to use for leg press by using the weight stack.
Put your feet about shoulder width apart on the platform or wherever you feel comfortable.
Grab the handles at the side of the machine to ensure stability.
Push your feet into the footplate, using your quads to push, while keeping your glutes tight and your core in place.
Perform as many repetitions as you like by slowly lowering the weight to the starting position.
Horizontal Leg Press Benefits
Targeted muscle development.
The horizontal seated leg presses primarily target the quadriceps, but also work the hamstrings.
Low Impact
The horizontal seated leg presses are low-impact exercises that put minimal strain on joints.
Easy to use
It is easy to change the weight or switch users with this pin selectorized system.
Adjustable Range of Motion
The design of the machine allows for greater flexibility, as it can increase over time.
Leg Press with Angled Leverage
A Leg Press with Angled Leverage is a machine that uses a system of levers to provide resistance for the user.
This machine is usually plate-loaded and has a 45-degree incline. It offers a lot of resistance and adjustability.
The angled leg press is named so because it has a range of motion that is angled to some extent.
The design is based on a biomechanical range of motion that targets the quads and hamstrings most effectively, with little or no involvement of the upper and lower back.
The leg press works well for all-around strength and muscle growth in your legs, with an emphasis on hypertrophy.
How to use a Leg Press with Leverage
Start by adjusting your seat to the desired position. Then, load the weight plates you know you will be able to perform multiple reps.
Set your foot position by seated on the machine, with your back flat against the backrest of the machine and your feet on the footplate.
Grab the handles on either side of the seat, brace your core and legs, and then release the safety device, which is usually located on the side.
Squeeze your quadriceps while pushing the footplate with your feet.
Remember to keep your knees from being fully extended for safety.
Regroup yourself for the next rep. Remember to breathe!
Benefits of Angled Leverage Leg press
Supreme Range Of Motion
It is well known that the angled leg press has a wide range of motion. This allows for a full contraction on top and a deep stretch in the legs.
Lower Body Isolation
The angled leg presses place very little stress on your lower and upper back. This allows you to focus all of your energy in the legs, which leads to a high level hypertrophy and development.
Isolated Leg Exercise
By pressing one leg at a given time, you can correct muscle imbalances. The great range of motion of this type of leg press makes it popular for isolation exercises.
Fits Different Fitness Levels
Leverage leg presses are suitable for people with varying fitness levels and abilities, as they offer adjustable resistance and ranges of motion.
Very Low Injury Risk
Leverage angled leg presses are safer than traditional squats because there is no weight placed on the shoulders or back.
Dual Function Leg Press (Leg Press/Hack Squat).
Dual Function Leg Press Machine allows you to do both hack squats and leg presses. It is an excellent addition to any home or gym workout area.
The machine usually includes a footplate and a back plate which can be adjusted for different sizes of bodies and to accommodate various exercise variations.
You can switch between an incline leg press at 45 degrees and a shoulder-loaded hack squat in the same machine without having to spend extra money or space.
How to use a dual function leg press / hack squat
1. Adjust the machine to fit your body.
2. You can load up the machine with as much weight you want to achieve optimal resistance. These machines are usually plate-loaded.
3. Before you begin, brace your legs, glutes, and core. Also, disengage the machine's safety mechanism.
4. You can choose to move at any time.
Dual Function Leg Press Benefits
Versatility
This machine has two functions that allow you to do two popular lower-body exercises in one machine.
Adjustable Plate Loaded Resistance
You can add or remove weights to the machine to adjust resistance according to your fitness level.
Low Joint Strain
Leg press and hacksquats performed on this machine are less stressful on the knees, hips and lower back than traditional squats and lunges. This makes them an excellent option for most people.
Save Money and Space
By combining these two machines, you can save space and money for your home gym or facility.
Vertical Leg Press
Vertical leg press has a different design than other leg presses.
The machine is vertically aligned, as its name suggests.
The pushes up the platform by laying flat on the ground with the back of the person against the padded support.
It is important to maintain the neck and back in a neutral position and aligned for safety.
This is a great machine to add to your routine as a change from the usual leg press machine.
How to use a vertical leg press
1. Start with a small amount of weight and work your way up. Start light and gradually increase your weight to determine your strength capacity.
2. Place yourself comfortably in the machine by lying flat on your back.
3. Put your feet on the machine in a position where you can achieve the full depth without having your heels or feet rise above the footplate.
4. Engage your legs and brace your core, then de-engage the safety device on the machine.
5. As you resist the weight, bend your knees outwards and push them towards your core. You should stretch out fully but not so deep that you end up stuck at the bottom.
6. Drive the footplate back upwards, while keeping your core braced. This is one rep.
Vertical Leg Press Benefits
Unique Leg Press Movement
The vertical leg press may not be something that everyone is familiar with. Try it out and you will be surprised at how different it is from other machines.
Lower Back and Neck Support
The lower back, upper spine, and neck are all almost entirely left out. You will feel the stretch in your hamstrings and glutes without having to strain your back.
Direct 1 to 1 Weight Ratio
Some leg press machines, such as the 45 degree leg press or the leverage leg press have a weight slightly higher than what you actually feel you are pushing.
Gravity and the angle of the machine combine to make it appear smaller than it is.
If you align the machine vertically, the weight that you place on it will be met with 100% of its resistance, not a slight angle.
Different Types of Leg Press Machines
There are many different types of leg presses, all with their own benefits and features.
Consider factors like the weight range, machine dimensions and user experience when choosing your best option.

The Benefits of Using Bumper Plates for Olympic Lifting in Canada
Introduction
Olympic lifting, also known as weightlifting, is a popular and demanding sport that requires precise technique, strength, and power. One essential component of Olympic lifting is the equipment used, and in recent years, Buy Bumper Plates Canada have gained significant attention among lifters in Canada. Bumper plates offer unique advantages that can greatly enhance the Olympic lifting experience, safety, and performance. In this article, we'll explore the benefits of using bumper plates for Olympic lifting in Canada.
Safety and Protection
Bumper plates are designed to be dropped from overhead positions without causing damage to the plates or the lifting platform. This safety feature is particularly crucial for lifters who are pushing their limits or learning new techniques. In Canada, where weightlifting facilities may be limited, having equipment that reduces the risk of injury to both the lifter and the surroundings is essential. Bumper plates minimize the impact when weights are dropped, making it safer for lifters to practice and refine their skills.
Floor Protection
Lifting heavy weights can take a toll on the floor, especially in home gyms or smaller training facilities. Bumper plates, with their rubber construction, provide effective protection for the floor. This is especially important in Canada's harsh winters when outdoor training might not be feasible, and indoor spaces need extra care. By reducing the impact on the ground, bumper plates help to extend the lifespan of training spaces.
Noise Reduction
Traditional iron plates can generate significant noise when dropped, causing disturbances to others in the vicinity. Bumper plates are designed to absorb shock and dampen sound, creating a more pleasant training environment. This advantage is particularly relevant in densely populated areas of Canada, where noise regulations and the consideration of neighbors come into play.
Consistency and Technique
Bumper plates come in standardized diameters, regardless of their weight. This consistency in size allows lifters to practice their lifts with the same technique across various weights. This is a crucial aspect of Olympic lifting, where precision and form are paramount. Using bumper plates ensures that lifters are not adjusting their technique due to varying plate sizes, leading to better skill acquisition and performance.
Progressive Overload
Olympic lifters in Canada follow progressive overload principles to continually challenge their strength and power. Bumper plates allow for incremental load adjustments, as they come in various weights just like traditional plates. This versatility is essential for lifters to gradually increase their training loads and reach new personal bests.
Aesthetics and Identification
Bumper plates are often color-coded based on their weight, making it easy for lifters and coaches to quickly identify and select the appropriate plates. This is especially beneficial in a training environment where efficiency matters. Additionally, the vibrant colors of bumper plates can add a touch of aesthetics to the training space, creating a more visually appealing atmosphere.
Conclusion
Bumper plates have become a valuable asset to Olympic lifters in Canada, Befitnow offering a range of benefits that enhance safety, performance, and overall training experience. From protecting floors and reducing noise to facilitating consistent technique and enabling progressive overload, bumper plates play a vital role in supporting lifters in their pursuit of excellence. As the popularity of Olympic lifting continues to grow in Canada, the advantages of using bumper plates are set to contribute significantly to the sport's development and success.Â

đ¨đŚđŹđ§đ¨đŚSTOP THE PRESSESđŹđ§đ¨đŚđŹđ§
STOP PRESS: We thought you'd be delighted to hear that, thanks to membersâ generosity, our first advertising about the League for many years in La Belle Province appeared today in the leading newspaper of Quebec City, Le Soleil. If you would like to receive a pdf copy of the ad, please request by return email. Â ECOMM 8.5.21 A JUBILEE BLESSING...OUR THANKS... LEAGUE FLAGS - again available LEAGUE TARTAN SCARF - update and last but not least A SPRING SALE OF MONARCHICAL ITEMS PLATINUM JUBILEE MEDAL Our thanks to the many members who told us they have contacted their MP and the Prime Ministerâs office to express their support for the issuance of this Medal in the Canadian tradition. Â We look forward to hearing of replies any of you may receive; and we ask you keep up the chain of advocacy by thinking of friends to whom you can send our original message, and urge then to participate in our efforts. A BLESSING ON THE QUEEN IN THE IROQUOIAN TRADITION A member of the UEL Association who is a Kanienkehaka Embassador at Large, wrote to the League as follows: Please remember our Mohawk members, who would like to express our good wishes and thanksgivings to our Sister. You may be familiar with our ceremonial blessings, and the thanksgiving address to be offered before all matters; it is an Iroquoian custom:
Next year marks the 70th Anniversary of The Queenâs reign. Our Monarchy has never before seen a Platinum Jubilee! Thus the occasion calls for celebration, thanksgiving and above all, a sense of gratitude and unity. LEAGUE FLAGS NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT DISCOUNTED RATE With hundreds of new members in recent months, the League has received a number of requests as to when we will re-issue the League Flag. Part of our Armorial Bearings, it bears a Royal Crown by personal permission of Her Majesty The Queen. Produced for many years by our friends at the Flag Shop, it is ideal for your den or boathouse, a kid's bedroom, college dorm - with grommets so it can if you wish also be flown on a flag pole outdoors Its dimensions are 24 x 42 inches, and it is made of 200d nylon.  We order and keep only a limited stock, so as not to tie up funds in inventory, as it is a specialty item. PRE-PRODUCTION SPECIAL: $85 INCLUDES POSTAGE LIMIT: TWO PER MEMBER If you wish to reserve a Flag (we should receive it in around three weeks) kindly access the Leagueâs online store at https://store.monarchist.ca/en/products and make a âFighting Fundâ donation for $85.  We will know your purpose, and get a Flag right off to you once we have received them.  THE LEAGUEâS TARTAN SCARF Progress Report Thanks to our friend Matthew Rowe, who runs the Prince of Wales-patron Campaign for Wool in Canada, we have located a UK manufacturer who is willing to manufacture scarves in a small quantity by commercial standards. The fine Tartan chosen by you, and designed by our member Carol Martin, will be woven of  wool, sized 180cm (app 70 in) X 30cm (app 11½ in) with tassels of 7cm (app 2 3/4 in). We will approve the cloth material this coming week. It appears a custom label may be expensive given the quantity required - we will do our best to resolve that issue and deal with somewhat tiresome but important details remaining, such as the method of shipping to Canada and potential duty and taxes. It is our hope to come up with firm pricing in June, and shortly after to solicit pre-orders within the price range acceptable to the several hundred members who expressed interest in a scarf.  All of which is to say - we are on track, and look forward to producing and getting to you the Leagueâs first - and long overdue - piece of apparel suitable for both women and men!  AND NOW.... WHAT (SOME OF) YOUâVE BEEN WAITING FOR... OUR SPRING SALE! These monarchical souvenirs, for one reason or another not suited to our annual Silent Online Auction in September, have been donated to the League in recent months. Many would be suitable for young people to interest them in the Monarchy and history. IF YOU WANT TO PURCHASE AN ITEM/ITEMS, PLEASE CONTACT US FIRST TO MAKE SURE YOUR CHOICES ARE STILL AVAILABLE. WE WILL THEN CALCULATE THE POSTAGE APPLICABLE TO YOUR ORDER, AND GIVE YOU A LIMITED TIME TO PAY ONLINE VIA THE LEAGUE STORE, THE ONLY FORM OF PAYMENT FOR THIS SALE, BEFORE MAKING THEM AVAILABLE TO THE NEXT MEMBER REQUESTING. 1) THREE CORONATION 1953 MAGAZINES The Sphere, Illustrated, and The Illustrated London News, lovingly used condition, each telling the story of the Coronation as only the British can do!  The advertising is fascinating, too. These will be enjoyed as living images and texts describing the beginning of a glorious Reign! $20 2) SIX ROYAL SOUVENIR PUBLICATIONS Macleanâs magazineâs tribute to Diana on her death; Pitkin glossy colour booklet Charles and Dianaâs Wedding day; The Queenâs Silver Jubilee Pitkin-sized booklet; another similar-sized booklet by Ronald Allison: The Queen - The Life and Work of Elizabeth II; Illustrated London News Royal Year 1986; Illustrated London Newscoverage of The Marriage of Princess Anne, 1973. $25 3) HMY BRITANNIA POSTER Sized app. 16 x 20 inches, a glossy photographic portrait (2002) of The State Rooms aboard Britannia.  Especially appropriate now that the Yacht is, in a way, to be replaced by the HMS Prince Philip. In a tube with Britannia-watermarked tissue paper and a gold Britannia seal, we suspect it was sold at the resting place of the ship, now a tourist attraction. Some water stains. Will need to be dry mounted to remove creases from rolling, after which it will occupy pride of place in a den, a kidâs bedroom or a man cave! $25 4) A CRAZY FUN ITEM: COLOUR RUBBER 3-D DIANA KEYCHAIN You will never lose your keys with this app 1 3/4 inch high rubberized moulded Diana key chain! Weâve not seen anything like it previously. You might well use it - or display it as a sure conversation-starter on a shelf, perhaps next to a bobbling Queen! $20 5) SILVER JUBILEE MEDALLION & CHARLES AND âLADY DIANA SPENCERâ WEDDING CROWN Both 1 1/2 inch diameter. Gold-coloured Souvenir medallion bears profile of The Queen, 1977, with a  surround referencing the Jubilee. The Crown, encased in a plastic holder by the Westminster Bank, is official coinage from 1983, with the usual image of The Sovereign on front, and verso, a profile of Charles and Diana with a surround referencing the occasion and year. $25Â
(the mark on the Royal Arms is not a defect, but a seller's sticker that is not on our plate)6) UNUSUAL, RATHER-MODERN IN DESIGN, SOUVENIR PLATE FOR SILVER JUBILEE - BY WEDGEWOOD A heavy 10" plate produced by Wedgewood in 1977, respectful and colourful, but, in our view, not really âtraditionalâ and thus of special interest. A deep blue silhouette of Thhe Queen in centre, surrounded by the Garter motto, with tne lancets extending which depict Heralds, Guardsmen and elements of the Household Cavalry and one Royal Shield surmounted by the Crown. Many decorative flowers, Rim references the Jubilee and states âGod Save The Queen.â Crimson tracery surrounds the plate. Condition: as new $35 Â Â (The picture is the Van Dyke etching of the King, whose image appears in the framed print offered below)
7) A CANADIAN-FRAMED PRINT OF KING CHARLES ENGRAVING After the original by Van Dyke, the engraving from the original owned by the Earl of Pembroke, it is unusually but attractively framed, we believe in pine, ready to hang, with modern âArt handmade Plaque Canadaâ sticker on back. The entire object is app 10 x 13 inches, with the engraving proper about 5 ½ x 10 inches. Condition - engraving darkened by age but distinct; frame: excellent; print: slight water-stain foxing at bottom adds authenticity rather than detracting from the overall appearance. $50 8) BOOK: CHARLES & DIANA VISIT CANADA Vivid colour pictures, hardback, published by Collins, and covering many moments from the Royal coupleâs 17-day first visit to Canada in 1983.  Condition: excellent. $15 9-14) LIVING HISTORY: DRY-MOUNTED ROYAL PHOTOGRAPHS From the collection assembled by the federal government in Diamond Jubilee year, these are terrifically âusableâ as, hard mounted without âframesâ they are light in weight - and ready-to hang in your den, or childâs room, or to fill a wall with multiple pictures! All are app 10 x 14 inches b&w unless noted otherwise. We will advise you of the postage cost at time of your inquiry, as this varies considerably depending on your postal code.  If anyone wishes to purchase all seven of these at a favourable price, please contact us immediately. 9.   In colour: Prince Edward in his late teens, a broad smile on his face as he leans against an oak and relaxes on autumn leaves with his Labrador Retriever.   $15 10.   Front cover of Paris Match depicting The Queen returning in the Golden Coach from her Coronation, Orb and Sceptre displayed, and Prince Philip by her side. $20 11.   Princess Elizabeth on the telephone in her office at Buckingham Palace, 1946.     $15 12.   In colour: The Good King, George VI of late, happy and beloved memory, wearing a tan jacket - a reflective portrait on the grounds of Buckingham Palace.   $25 13.   The Princesses Elizabeth & Margaret Rose, probably just after the war, looking ready to go out for an evening in lovely beaded formal dresses. $20 14.   Our favorite of this tranche of pictures. Colour shot of the Royal Family, shortly after the War, in the Palace Gardens. The King, The Queen and the Princesses are seated on wicker chairs - with Elizabethâs dog beside her. This happy family - âwe fourâ - exemplifies the bequest of a happy, close family life that made our Queen such an extraordinary person. $30 15.   Colour 3/4 length study of a beaming Princess Elizabeth, hands clasped in front, on her 19th birthday.   $25 16.   The shade of the Abdication not yet visible, this 1936 picture shows the future King and Queen as Duke & Duchess of York at the door of their Piccadilly residence, with a serious-looking Elizabeth holding her Motherâs forearm. $25 Â

The Demons Have Misplaced Their God - Part 2
âGet us out, get us out, get us out!â Harleyâs screeching was not, in fact, helping, but he seemed to think it was.
Brian grabbed half of a porcelain plate from a dumpster knocked sideways onto the ground as they ran, and smashed it over Harleyâs head. It only made him more hysterical.
âWHY DID YOU DO THAT? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? YOU COULD HAVE KNOCKED ME OUT! THEY WOULD CATCH ME! I WOULD DIE! WHY DO YOU WANT ME TO DIE?â
âBecause you wonât SHUT! UP!â Brian looked like he was about to continue when Nate grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and yanked him into an open doorway, covering his mouth with his hand. Remy grabbed Harley in a similar fashion, but Harley seemed to get over his need to destroy his own vocal chords and did not need to be smothered. The four slowed their breaths and listened to the sounds of footsteps--multiple people running after where theyâd been shouting.
The hunters almost ran right past their admittedly rather terrible hiding place, but pivoted on their feet to face them. Time slowed around them and instead of whipping out their weapons and killing them instantly, they sluggishly reached for their knives and guns.Â
Nate released Brian and sauntered over, reaching into their pockets and removing anything of interest, either breaking it or keeping it, tossing the broken, useless remains onto the ground. The huntersâ faces moved achingly slowly in reaction--horror, annoyance, the like. A few of the group had the audacity to look afraid.Â
âItâs almost like theyâve never fought a demon before,â Remy noted, chuckling. With a wave of his hands they all fell asleep, oh-so-slowly falling to the ground in varying levels of discomfort. They would awake once the demons were good and far away.
âWhy donât we just kill them?â Brian whined.Â
âDo you want a whole pack of hunters after us, instead of a few strays?â Remy asked. Brian backed down, but grumbled under his breath.Â
âWe canât feed from them anyways,â Nate muttered. âTheyâve poisoned themselves. Drank holy water.â
Remy let out a string of curses that would singe any self-respecting angelâs ears. âWhat the hell else are we supposed to eat? The people here are too damn paranoid to go out at night. And unless you wanna get maced, I donât think we should try any of the dealers around here.â
Harley huffed. âCanât even try a decent prostitute. Stupid city council cracking down on it being illegal, and all.â
âI mean, thereâs that homeless shelter downtown,â Brian said. âWe could try breaking in. Theyâre probably all asleep anyway.â
âI actually looked into that the other day,â Nate spoke. âTheyâve got a silent alarm. We wouldnât even know it before the cops were on us. And these days, theyâre worse than the hunters.â
The rest muttered sounds of agreement as an uneasy silence settled on them like a sticky childâs blanket. As in, they really would rather be doing anything than continue to be touching such a silence.Â
âSoâŚâ Brian bounced on his heels. âWhat are we gonna eat?â
-
Nate and Remy met at the turn of the century, at a millennium new yearâs party. There were a few raised eyebrows exchanged, at first. After all, they both wore the same sunglasses indoors, and both wore leather jackets--although Nate kept his sleeves rolled up to his elbows at all times. Aesthetic was and is a crucial part of both of their lives, so the fact that they matched was an unpleasant revelation. And as they met in the corner of the room to discuss such pleasantries as who would be leaving and coming back in another outfit, they both recognized the indisputable, if hidden via powerful glamour, aura of a demon.Â
As the ball dropped in Times Square and on the TV, the humans around them cheered and drank and Nate and Remy removed their sunglasses for the first time that evening and made out until the last of the human partiers vomited onto the couch and resolved to fix her alcohol problem this year. (She didnât, but itâs the thought that counts, and at least she got the two weirdos in the back to stop snogging each other and leave.)
-
Their apartment didnât have a lock, but it did exude residual demonic energy, and that worked well enough to ward off potential burglars. Not that they had much worthy of pilfering. Harley jiggled the door handle and slammed his full body weight into the door in an attempt to budge the stubborn thing. Remy leaned against the doorframe and âhelpedâ until it actually opened, and the four went in.
Inside, a dented old red boombox played âBest of Queenâ, and a pair of identical young boys played Mario Kart on the stolen TV. They didnât bother to look up at the adults as they wandered in. Nate sat on the couch next to them, humming in mild amusement as one boy blue-shelled the other.Â
âNot sure how you can win or lose this one, Jobe,â Nate ruffled one boyâs hair, laughing as he was swatted away.
The game ended and the duo turned to their brother in the same kind of unison one would expect of twins in a horror movie, but not in real life.
âDid you bring food?â The image of two boys blurred until it seemed as though there may not have been any boys on the ratty old couch at all, and maybe it was just a smudge on your glasses? Only for the smudge to reform itself into one singular boy in-between where the separate boys sat, holding both controllers.Â
âNo luck,â Nate admitted. From somewhere in the barren kitchen, (for though food was a luxury, it was not one they could afford) he heard a frustrated huff that could have been from any of the other three housemates.
Jobe frowned, then tried to hide it, then decided it wasnât worth it and just frowned. âWeâre all gonna to starve at this rate!â
âNah,â Nate reached out and took one of the controllers from the youngerâs hand. âAinât gonna happen. Wanna play against someone who isnât you?â
âFinally. Do you know how hard it is to beat myself?!â
âYouâre such a braggart.â
-
Jobe was a surprise. But he was Nateâs baby brother, and while it may be the norm for humans, siblings are spectacularly rare among demonkind. (This is for various reasons, including but not limited to: demonkindâs lack of loyalty to former partners, often betraying each other before the opportunity to reproduce presents itself a second time, as well as their general dislike of children, particularly demonic ones.) So Remy accepted that as long as he and Nate were⌠whatever they were, heâd have to be around Jobe.
It turned out to be easier than he thought.
âI didnât picture you as good with kids,â Nate had a towel wrapped around his waist, his hair still dripping from his shower. Remy looked up from the carpet, where he and Jobe had taken toothpicks and rubber bands to set up a witchburning with Barbie as the accused. As it was, Elmo the witch hunter had already burned such known witchcraft practitioners as Potato Head Man, all three of the minions, and a particularly feisty Beanie Baby who had laid a curse upon all of Elmoâs descendants that probably wouldnât come into play until after Jobe had taken a bath. However, the townsfolk were starting to get suspicious of Elmoâs credibility, as Barbie is a well-respected figure across all cultures. (That part had been Jobeâs idea, and Remy had wholeheartedly agreed. Elmo was getting greedy, and greedy humans--or muppets--had to pay eventually.)
âSorry, we borrowed your cigarette lighter,â Remy handed back the object in question, gesturing to the melted remnants of one of Potato Head Manâs arms. âWeâre having a witch hunt.â
Nate nodded solemnly, handing the lighter back to the closest of his five brothers, two of whom decided to reform one, bringing the count back down to four Jobe. (The plural of Jobe, of course, is Jobe. This is because no matter how many of him there is, at the end of the day Nate only has one brother, even if there are several of him.)Â
âI always knew the minions were something unholy,â he commented, heading back to his room to get into his pajamas.Â
-
After some cajoling, Jobe eventually went to bed, leaving the four adults to ponder their tragically familiar situation over the kitchen countertop.
âIâve heard LAâs got a pretty good food chain system going,â Harley suggested.
âBig cities, easy no-go. Besides, I heard thatâs a rumor the local hunting family thereâs been spreading,â Brian rested his head in his hands, staring down at the fake marble as if it had snatched away his only birthday present.
âOntarioâs been quiet lately,â Remy mused dryly.Â
Harley shivered. âCanadaâs too cold for me.â
âYou donât have to come,â Brian rolled his eyes.Â
âPlease. What would you do without me?â
âSleep, maybe.â
âShut up,â Remy took off his sunglasses, rubbing his forehead to stave off a headache. âNate? Anything?â
â...Orlando?â
âBig city, same problems,â Brian repeated.
âFloridaâs not too bad, though. Not a lot of hunting.â Remy considered it. It could be nice. Maybe they could take Jobe to Disney. Heâd be ecstatic.
âThatâs because all the humans down there are old,â Brian huffed. âItâd be so⌠boring.â
âBoring is good, though.â Nate spoke to Harley and Brian, but heâd moved his sunglasses onto his head, and his eyes were having a silent conversation with the other leather-clad demon. âBoring is safe.â
Harley and Brian shared their own look: one of mutual distaste for the inherently romantic route this conversation had involuntarily taken.

The Benefits of Using Bumper Plates for Olympic Lifting in Canada
Introduction
When it comes to Olympic weightlifting, the equipment used can greatly impact an athlete's performance and safety. Bumper Plates near me Canada, also known as Olympic plates, have become increasingly popular in Canada and around the world due to the numerous advantages they offer for this specific type of lifting. In this blog, we will explore the benefits of using bumper plates for Olympic lifting in Canada, highlighting their importance in enhancing training sessions and promoting overall progress for weightlifters of all levels.
Protecting the Platform and Equipment
One of the primary benefits of bumper plates is their design, which incorporates a rubber coating that surrounds a metal core. This rubber coating makes them significantly more forgiving when dropped, reducing the impact on the lifting platform and preventing damage to the barbell and floor. For gyms and training facilities, this means a longer lifespan for both equipment and the workout area, leading to reduced maintenance costs over time.
Enhanced Safety for Lifters
Safety is paramount in any sport, and Olympic weightlifting is no exception. Bumper plates' rubber composition helps reduce the risk of injury, not only to the equipment but also to the athlete. The ability to drop the weights safely enables lifters to push their limits without fear of accidents or undue strain on their bodies. This promotes a more confident and effective training environment, fostering better progress and technique development.
Progressive Overload and Training Flexibility
Bumper plates are available in a variety of weights, just like traditional metal plates. However, their design allows athletes to perform lifts with a consistent diameter, regardless of the weight. This aspect is crucial for Olympic lifting, where technical movements demand consistent form. As athletes progress, they can easily add smaller increments to the bar, achieving progressive overload in a controlled manner, and advancing their strength and skills.
Building Confidence in Novice Lifters
For novice lifters, the fear of dropping heavy weights can be a significant obstacle to overcome. Bumper plates provide a great solution to this problem, allowing beginners to focus on learning proper technique without worrying about damaging equipment or getting injured during missed lifts. The added confidence gained from using bumper plates can accelerate a lifter's progress and passion for the sport.
Noise Reduction
Traditional iron plates can produce a loud clanging noise when dropped, which can be disruptive to athletes, coaches, and other gym-goers. Bumper plates' rubberized coating absorbs much of this impact, significantly reducing the noise generated during Olympic lifting. As a result, training sessions can be more peaceful and less disturbing to others, making bumper plates an excellent choice for busy gyms and training facilities.
Conclusion
Bumper plates have revolutionized Olympic weightlifting training in Canada and beyond, offering numerous benefits that improve the overall lifting experience. From their protective properties for equipment and platforms to the increased safety and confidence they provide for lifters, bumper plates have become an essential tool for athletes and coaches alike. Their versatility, noise reduction, and ability to facilitate progressive overload make them an excellent investment, befitnow for any gym focused on Olympic lifting. Whether you're a seasoned weightlifter or just starting your journey in the sport, incorporating bumper plates into your training routine is sure to yield positive results. For more details you can call us +647-545-5393 and mail us [email protected]

Kids Best Balance Bikes For Your Toddler- Biking With Baby : From Newborn To Infant To Toddler
It seems hard to believe that we ever took training wheels seriously. They teach novice riders a lot of bad habits and probably cause more crashes than they prevent read more everything about bike (The Ride Round). Rolf Mertens and his LikeaBike showed Europe a better way almost 25 years ago, but it took about a decade for the pedal-less, two-wheel balance bike to become ubiquitous this side of the Atlantic. The first models were simple in the extreme and far too close to the infamous âdepartment-store bikeâ for the liking of committed cyclist parents. Today, you can get functioning brakes, higher-quality wheels and tires, and carbon-fiber frames, all the better for the no-pedal races held for children at most BMX tracks nowadays. All balance bikes work in same fashion: The rider sits low, with knees bent, and uses both feet to push their bike along and to hold the machine upright. As speed and familiarity increase, the rider goes feet-up to experience a few thrilling moments of balanced flight on two wheels.
A Variety of Sizes
The original Striders had 12-inch wheels. Today, most manufacturers make larger balance bikes with 14-inch wheels for older riders; for smaller or younger riders, models exist with 10-inch wheels and low standover heights. Regardless of wheel size, choosing a model with a wide range of seat adjustment is always a good idea for fast-growing children.
Air Is No Longer Rare
Direct and reliable feedback from a balance bikeâs steering can help a child feel immediately comfortable, so low-grip tires can make the learning process a little frightening. The most affordable balance bikes have hard plastic wheels, more or less as you remember from the âBig Wheelâ trikes of the Seventies, with all the attendant drawbacks. Moving up to a foam tire on a plastic mag wheel, as found on the segment-defining Strider Classic, offers a bit more traction (at the expense of durability). More and more balance bikes are using a traditional pneumatic tube and tire, which improves the riding experience but increases the likelihood of maintenance.
To Brake or Not to Brake
The first balance bikes didnât have a brake, but many of the newer and more sophisticated entrants to the segment have at least one. The Woom 1 Plus has a three-brake system: front, rear, and rear coaster. Why bother? Itâs just as important to learn stopping as it is starting. Many of the larger-wheeled models can reach worrisome speeds with a committed pilot. Plus, a brake saves wear on shoes since kids donât have to use their soles to stop, Fred Flinstone-style.
Making the Move to Pedals and Other Upgrades
Parents looking for the easiest transition to traditional riding might want to consider one of the models with add-on pedal power. Itâs not cheap, and it requires some mechanical aptitude, but the convertible pedalers offer even more confidence to young riders.
Seat adjustment is a critical part of balance biking, and itâs best to get the model with the largest range of possibilities. If you expect your child to be on a balance bike for the long haul you might consider choosing a model with an adjustable or replaceable handlebar. Some parents are understandably reluctant to spend $200 or more on what is essentially a training tool, but if your child will be using the balance bike to accompany you on even short rides away from the house, upgrades might be worth the cost.
The balance bike is firmly established as the preferred way to join the cycling hobby, but it can also be a gateway to real competition: Both USABMX and BMX Canada offer balance-bike race classes at dozens of local tracks. Ready to get started? Weâve selected the most compelling options below.
How We Tested and Selected
Our team of test editors has an army of young kids who have tried and tested many of these bikes. Over the past 36 months, weâve evaluated more than two dozen options, and carefully watched which ones helped our kids most easily learn to ride (and which ones the kids grabbed first out of the garage, because thatâs important too.) We evaluated the bikes based on weight, features, construction, ease of build and maintenance, longevity, and value. Weâve found models with air-filled tires and rim brakes to best support developing riders, but the simplicity of other models is desirable too. When we didnât test a specific model, we included it here based on reviewing similar products, customer feedback, and the assessment of other experts we trust.
Kokua LikeaBike Jumper
The original balance bike, updated for Stateside tastes with plenty of tech
Purists will not want to settle for anything less than the original wooden LikeaBike from Kokua Bikes, but unless your personal tastes run strongly in the direction of Scandinavian furniture and eco-chic, you can save a few bucks with the Jumper, which is based on a monotube aluminum frame and weighs just 7.5 pounds. The removable steering damper and elastomer-based rear suspension will bring a smile to any parent who remembers the downhill MTB scene of the 1990s. Thereâs even an optional front brake for balance bikers whose training grounds include steep driveways or trails. Yes, itâs ridiculously expensive. So was the 1986 Kestrel 4000. In both cases, envious glances are part of the package.
Strider 12 Pro
A good balance between cost and capability
The widely distributed Strider brand made balance biking an American pastime instead of a European import. Rugged and durable, these are the no-pedal equivalents of the no-frills Huffy department-store bikes on which many riders got their first taste of freedom. The Classic ($89) is available pretty much everywhere and has been widely proven in practice, but the Pro uses aluminum construction to drop the weight to 5.6 pounds then throws in extra touches like an adjustable seat and a sporty number plate.
Haro PreWheelz 12 Gen 3
A balance bike with BMX heritage
Haroâs refined take on the 12-inch wheel offers some surprising refinement, such as a 6000-series aluminum frame and â more important â a massive amount of seat adjustment that will get even the smallest riders on the bike. The seat has a built-in grab handle for the guiding hands of parents. Is there a matching Haro jersey available? Any BMX rider from the past few decades knows the answer to that.
Prevelo Alpha Zero
Thoughtful touches and effective braking at a sub-premium price point
Like Woom, Prevelo is a fairly new company looking to bridge the gap between entry-level bikes and the high-end options from boutique kiddie-bike makers like Spawn and Trailcraft. The Alpha Zero is the entry point to this range. Join Preveloâs trade-up club for $69 more, and if you trade it in within two years for the next model up, youâll get 40 percent off the original purchase price. At 8.6 pounds, itâs slightly heavier than most of the aluminum competition, but the Prevelo offers an effective V-brake tucked under the chainstays where it wonât scratch kidsâ legs. Wheel nuts, as well, are rounded off for safety. Standover height is low and the tires are pneumatic Kendas. As a final touch, Prevelo will put your riderâs name on the bike, the same way the sponsors do in UCI international competition.
SE Bikes Micro Ripper
The overtly nostalgic choice, featuring low standover height and rugged construction
When former X-Games star and current SE Bikes head designer Todd Lyons became a father, he promptly cooked up a balance bike for his daughter, Angelina Lyons, to race on. The Micro Ripper features â70s-throwback graphics to go with a minimalist specification. Choose your color: the candy red familiar to former racers or the light blue associated with trick-star Mike Buff. With a traditional BMX stem and 16-spoke wheels, the Micro Ripper is a heavy but undeniably durable choice for kids who seem to break anything they touch.
Woom 1
The entry point to Woomâs upscale series of childrenâs bikes
The team at Woom has produced some innovative childrenâs bikes in the past few years, numbered 1 through 5 for the order in which they should be purchased and ridden. The Woom 1, the first in the five-bike series, features a V-brake with a brake lever scaled for hands 18 months or older. Standover height is exceptionally low thanks to a curved monotube, and the seat is adjustable. The 1 Plus is designed for children age 3 and up, with 14-inch pneumatic tires. It takes a kitchen-sink approach to equipment, featuring two hand brakes, a coaster brake, and a high-rise, BMX-style handlebar. Both models have a rubber steering limiter to prevent accidents caused by a quick âfolding overâ of the steering at speed.
Kiddimoto Karbon
For those parents who want to win the playground pose-off
The Kiddimoto Karbon is a carbon fiber balance bike, and we think it looks the absolute business. If Darth Vader spent his youth on two wheels instead of building podracers, this would have been his ride. Upscale touches include pneumatic tires with spoked wheels and an ergonomic gel saddle for longer rides. A new distribution deal is making this available to U.S. buyers at about half the original price.
Banana Bike
A price leader, available with Prime shipping
The Banana Bike LT represents a minimum-viable-product approach to balance bikes. For just under $60, you get an adjustable seat and a ball-bearing headset. Another $10 upgrades you to the GT model, which has pneumatic tires and is available in three colors of sparkly paint. Parents on a budget will appreciate the free shipping and relatively fuss-free assembly, and theyâll feel particularly satisfied with their choice the first time they see their child dragging it down the sidewalk.
Strider 14x
The industryâs dominant brand goes pneumatic
Like their scooter counterparts over at Razor, the balance-bike pros at Strider have been conservative when it comes to changing their core product â but just as Razor eventually gave in to the big-wheel crowd with the Lux, Strider has made the move to a pneumatic tire with the 14x. This is considerably bigger than the traditional Strider 12, which will please BMX parents but may be a little daunting for riders age three or younger.
FirstBike Limited
The only bike on this list with optional skis
Why not make a balance bike out of plastic? It seems like an obvious idea, but only FirstBike has tried doing it at a level above dollar-store disposability. The trellis-style frames of the Basic, Racing, and Limited models are made from composite, carefully molded and finished to remove all sharp edges and pinch points. The brake is a rear drum, and the âhorse saddleâ seat is shaped to prevent children from slipping off the bike. A special âLowKitâ makes this relatively large bike usable for smaller kids, but the most impressive option is the set of skis that bolt on in place of the wheels to make the FirstBike a winter thrasher.
Swagtron K3
More balance bling for less money
You may know Swagtron as an Amazon-focused purveyor of âhoverboardsâ and other electronic products, but the company is also interested in your balance-bike business. Towards that end, the Swagtron offers some luxury features â pneumatic tires, lattice-spoked wheels, forward-angled handlebars for more stability â at the same price as basic models found elsewhere. Pro tip: Unbox it before your child can see the packaging and get their hopes up for a brightly lit, battery-powered sidewalk toy.
EarlyRider Bonsai
The inevitable fusion of wood and aluminum for the hipster balance biker
With the Bonsai, EarlyRider has created something truly unique: a single-sided rear swingarm balance bike made largely of wood. A single laminated form is bent Eames-style to form the frame, while the fork is carved in more traditional fashion from hardwood. âRest easy about the carbon footprint of your bike,â EarlyRider advises. If your home is furnished in Modern-with-a-capital-M fashion, this is the only option to seriously consider â itâs a Case Study (pun intended) in how to make a sustainable childâs bike.

11     The Dodgers, Boyâs          Club, and Santa
I suppose, for me, living on Martense St. it was a time in my life that I have a score of memories. Perhaps that part of my brain was maturing to a point that it was easier to remember a wider range of instances. What I mean is that usually remembering things that are vivid is easy, but to remember ordinary things is harder. Maybe from eight and a half to ten years old, my life was filled with more vivid moments. Who knowsâŚ
Martense Street goes east from its start on Flatbush Avenue.  The first cross north-south cross street is Bedford Avenue. That should be very familiar to Brooklyn Dodger fans. Up to when they abandoned Brooklyn, towering home runs would fly over the right field wall onto Bedford Avenue.
It was no more than a ten block walk up Bedford to get to Ebbets Field, the baseball stadium of the Dodgers. As part of the War effort, you could get free admission to lots of Dodger games by bringing 50 pounds of newspaper to Ebbets field. Â
The basements or cellars of every apartment house in our neighborhood, like plenty of other neighborhoods in Brooklyn, were deluged by kids with wagons picking up every thrown out newspaper in existence. To Ebbetts Field weâd go to see the likes of Dixie Walker, Mickey Owen, Whitlow Wyatt, Eddie Stanky, Eddie Miksis, Leo Durocher, Augie Galan et. al.  These were the guys who were playing when I went to my first Dodger game.  Just a quick story about Augie Galan. He played center field. Daddy, my brothers, and I were in the center field bleachers one night when Galan let a ball go over his head. Daddy thought he was bush league. Years later, I met Carl Erskine, a super Dodger pitcher in the 50âs.
I asked Erskine if he knew Augie Galan. A big smile came to Erskineâs face as he told me he roomed with Augie. Â He went on, âAugie was a great guy, and a good ballplayer.â Â Daddy would take issue with the âgood ballplayer partâ.
I do not take lightly that I met Carl Erskine, or as Brooklynites would say, âOiskâ
He was a Dodger Great! Years later, when I met him in his home town of Anderson, Indiana, he was gracious and welcoming. He gave me personally signed copies of his books, âTales From the Dodger Dugoutâ. Â He also signed his name as âOISKâ in one of the books. Â One thing Carl Erskine cannot experience is to know what a thrill and privilege it is to meet Carl Erskine.
An interesting thing about living on Martense Street, and being so close to Ebbets Field, is that we never played hard-ball. Our âbaseballâ street games were limited to stickball, slap ball, punch ball, and fast pitching.  Hardball and softball required a sand-lot with no buildings near it. Otherwise, plenty of windows would get broken. So, even in big schoolyards, stickball was the big game.  A hollow, rubber, high-bounce ball would be used, and broomstick handles were used for bats.  There were no balls and strikes, and the pitched ball must go over home plate in one bounce. The rest was exactly like a hardball or softball game. However, that meant there needed to be plenty of players.  Fast pitching or slap ball were the street ball games of choice. Either could be played with one guy on each side. We played lots of other games: kick-the-can, ring-a-leevio, Johnny-on-the-pony, tag, Chinese handball, I Declare War On, box ball, red light, et al.  All of this speaks to how I spent my time.
Naturally, going to school took a good portion of my days.  I attended P.S.246. In Third Grade, I had one of my favorite teachers, ever! Mrs. Cohen was fun, and I learned a lot. I loved going to school during that year. Funny thing, I donât remember
playing hooky in 3rd grade. Actually, in First Grade at P.S. 181 may have been the last time. Another thing I donât remember is Fourth Grade. Nothing! Not a single piece of memory!  My teacher? My friends? Wait! I do remember the door to the room, or at least where it was located. I now wonder what in the world was going on in my life for me to lose or block out a year of my schooling. I know for sure things were happening in my lifeâŚbut maybe nothing at school.
Just south of Church Avenue on the east side of Bedford Ave stood the Flatbush Boyâs Club. Much of our time was spent at the Boyâs Club.  Two things, at this moment, stand out in my mind regarding the Boyâs Club. The Golden Gloves and Santa Claus.
Today, I donât keep track of the Boxing World.  But in the 1940âs, Joe Lewis was the Heavy Weight Champion of the World.  We listened to every fight he was in.  I was a big fan.  I cried the night he lost to Jersey Joe Walcott.  So, boxing was big in Brooklyn.  The Bengal Bouts were huge!  Many a world champion, in all the different weight classes, were once Bengal Bout champions. Believe it or not, scrawny little me competed in the first bout of the1945 Bengal Bouts.  There is a qualifier here. My rival in the ring and I were 9 years old.  Our bout, a preliminary bout, was strictly for entertainment purposes. However, for my rival (I canât remember his name) and me, it was serious business.  I had never before been in a boxing ring, and never before been in front of such a huge crowd- the place was packed!
To prepare us for the fight, we were given a few boxing lessons.  I was coached to keep my right arm and jab with my left. I had the old 1-2 down pat. For three 1.5 minute rounds we pounded each other.  I had trouble executing the old 1-2 throughout the entire three rounds.  My boxing shorts were way too big, and every time Iâd try to put my right arm up, my shorts would start to fall down.  I think I fought the entire bout with one hand trying to hit the other kid, and the other hand holding up my shorts. Iâd hear shouts, âGo Richie!ââŚandâŚâkeep your pants on!â  Had I not had the difficulty of using my right hand to save me from embarrassment, I probably would have knocked that kid to the canvas, flat!  Due to the size-of- my- shorts mishap, I was sure the other kid got the best of me.  However, the judges ruled it a draw. I must have gotten some punches in I wasnât aware of. The fight must have been great. We got a standing ovation! Â
The second thing I remember about the Flatbush Boyâs Club was monumental. The guy who managed the gym, I think we called him Ace, had submitted my name to be one of two boys to travel to Canada to bring Santa Claus back for all the kids in New York City.
The Herald Tribune, one of New Yorkâs finest newspapers, sponsored this adventure through their Fresh Air Fund. The other kid, who was to travel with me, was ten years-old and I was nine. Â It had to be late November or early December of 1945. Â
We were taken by car to LaGuardia Airport.  When we got there, there were throngs of people there to wish us well.  We were interviewed by the Press.  Probably, the Press was the Herald Tribune reporters and photographers. The Herald Tribune looked like the New York Times.  In my mind they were the classy newspapers. The other newspapers I was used to seeing, especially at Church and Flatbush, was The News and the Mirror.  But this was a Tribune event for us kids.
Before we got on the plane, we were interviewed. Â They ask me if I was afraid to get sick when flying. Â I told them, I would not get sick because I wasnât allergic to flying.
At that time, the term allergy was rather new to the world. Â I think because my uncles were doctors, I knew about them. Â Our interviews took up two whole columns of the next dayâs paper. Â We then boarded a two engine passenger plane owned by Colonial Airlines. Naturally, flying up to Montreal, Canada was about the most nauseous experience of my life. I vomited and vomited until nothing would come out. Â I wonder if I was allergic to flying.
When we arrived in Montreal, we were met by Mrs. Rogers Reid, the owner of the Tribune.  We were to stay at her home overnight, then meet Santa at the airport, to fly home the next day.  When we got to her house, she showed us around.  The other kid and I were to sleep in the same bed. That scared me. I wet the bed, and I didnât want to admit it to anyone. My plan was to not drink soda or water after dinner so I wouldnât have to go.  I knew there was no guarantee there would be a dry bed in the morning.
Before we went to bed that night, Mrs. Reid told us we could order whatever we want for breakfast. I couldnât believe that. Today, I have no idea what either of us ordered. Iâm certain there were plenty of times, while shopping for groceries, my mother would say, âWhat do you boys want for breakfast?â  I never looked at that as my mother telling us we may order our own breakfast.
That night, after we got tucked in, I started to tell scary things to my companion.  I would go- âOh, whatâs that?; I thought I saw a skeleton; Did you hear that?⌠I was scaring myself!  Pretty soon, however, the other boy got real scared and made a spooky noise. Mrs. Reid came in and separated us. My partner was taken out of the room, and they made a bed for him on a couch in the hallway. I quickly fell asleep.
The next morning, I awoke to a dry bed.  I did not wet the bed!  But guess who did?
When I went out of the room into the hallway, I could see all the couch cushions standing on their side to dry off. Â That made things even better for me.
We had breakfast, and left for the airport to meet Santa. He was there, ready to fly back to New York. I was suspicious that he was a fraud.  However, he knew our names, and he let me pull his beard.  Wow, I almost pulled his head off.  I was certain we had the real Santa.  Guess what? I did not get air sickness on the way home.
There was a big crowd of people cheering as we got off the plane. Â I felt like a hero.
No one from my family was at the airport.  Oh, well. Iâll see them when I get home.
As I walked into the front door, I yelled, âhello. Itâs me, your hero, Iâm home! Â A big disappointment for me- no one was home.

Significant investment in the development of electric vehicles will drive the demand for electric vehicle components that are more fuel-efficient, lighter, and quieter while augmenting driving comfort. Therefore, most of the electric vehicle manufacturers are working to implement efficient noise and heat protection components. In January 2020, Nissan Motor Co. launched a new acoustic meta-material which is appropriate for insulation against noise from roads and engines and motors. This material composed of a plastic sheet and a lattice structure, which aims to decrease noise in a wide frequency range of 500 to 1,200 hertz and control air vibrations. This new material weighs only a quarter of the heavy rubber plates which decreases the weight of vehicles and thereby reduces consumption.
Weighing much less as compared to traditional sound insulation materials, the companyâs acoustic meta-material provides both efficiency and quietness. With the use of this material, vehicles will be much lighter which automatically decreases the environmental footprint as it requires less fuel and fewer emissions. Weighing less is essential in electric vehicles which not only make vehicles lighter, however, limits the environmental impact of driving. A quiet vehicle cabin supports to make car driving much comfortable. Like Nissan, other electric vehicle manufacturers are also working to implement thermal and acoustic insulation in different parts of an electric vehicle, which in turn, is offering a considerable opportunity for the global acoustic insulation market.

Level III Body Armor â Basic Rifle Protection
Level III Body Armor
Are you able to understand all the different ratings that come with body armor? They can be confusing, but theyâre extremely important if your life is going to depend on it.
What is level III body armor? The National Institue of Justice (NIJ) says that level III body armor has to stop a 147 gr 7.62mm Full Metal Jacket round moving at 2780 ft per second. Hard armor and plate inserts tested with soft armor must be labeled as only providing level III protection when paired together.
Level III body armor makes a big jump up from level IIIa body armor. It consists of hard armor or a combination of both hard and soft armor which makes it capable of providing protection from most rifle rounds that arenât specifically designed to defeat body armor.

What Does Level III Body Armor Protect Against?
The NIJ requires level III armor to stop up to a 7.62mm NATO round moving 2780 ft/sec. This means that it is capable of stopping most rifle rounds that youâre likely to encounter.
Level III armor is capable of defeating most rifle rounds. Steel plates are usually capable of protecting from 5.56mm green tip âpenetratorâ rounds while UHMWPE level III armor usually cannot.
Level III composite armor may or may not be able to stop gree tip ammo, depending on the design of the plate itself.

Body Armor Level Effective Against These Calibers III .308 Winchester Full Metal Jacket = 7.62 X 51 mm NATO6 rounds at ~ 2,750 fps IV 30-06 Armor-Piercing .30 M2 AP One round at ~ 2,850 fps
What Is Level III Body Armor Designed For?
Level III body armor hard armor that is designed to stop most common rifle calibers.
Level III armor is normally worn in an external carrier since its bulk and weight make it difficult to conceal. One of the better ways to conceal level III body armor is to carry it in a backpack or briefcase as part of your EDC.
Most companies offering level III body armor sell plates made from a range of materials. These include steel, composite materials, ceramic and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). Each comes with its own benefits and drawbacks.
When youâre choosing body armor, you have to understand the threats that youâre most likely to come across. You can be assured that most common rifle rounds and all pistol rounds will be stopped by level III armor plates and inserts.
In order to get the best protection available, youâll have to go for level IV body armor adding weight, size, and cost.
Does Level III Body Armor Protect Against Anything Other than Bullets?
Level III body armor isnât specifically designed to protect against anything other than what it is tested against. It does, however, offer some protection against fragmentation from IEDs and other explosive devices as well as bladed and piercing weapons.
Most of this protection comes from the simple fact that level III armor is made of dense materials and knives, piercing weapons and some frag have difficulty getting through it.
How Does Level III Body Armor Work?
Level III body armor functions in different ways depending on the materials used to make it.
Steel armor plates stop bullets be simply being very dense and strong. The bullet typically hits the armor and shatters into many smaller pieces.
Ceramic level III body armor plates are made with extremely hard non-metallic materials. These plates stop projectiles by deforming them as they pass through the ceramic material, reducing their energy and penetrating ability.
They are very good at stopping penetrating rounds but are much more delicate than steel or UHMWPE armor plates. They also suffer from relatively poor multi strike performance. To help counter these weaknesses, ceramic plates normally have some kind of metal, polyethylene or aramid fiber backing.
UHMWPE plates are made of sheets of specialized plastic pressed together to form dense, relatively light, armor that some claim is stronger than metal. The plates slow and deform the bullet as it passes through the UHMWPE material.
What Is Level III Body Armor Made Of?
Plates made from steel use steels specifically designed to be especially hard to stop projectiles as they strike the armor. These steels are tested to ensure uniformity in their thickness and density across the plate. They also normally have a layer to reduce bullet spalling. This rubber-like coating stops the spalling of rounds that impact the armor and prevent it from hitting the wearer in areas like their neck, arms and legs.
Steel level III armor plates are heavy making them difficult for some people to wear for extended periods of time. They have the benefit of being less expensive and not as thick as most other armor types.
Ceramic level III body armor is made of inorganic, non-metallic materials that are extremely strong. Some of the most common materials used in making ceramic armor is boron carbide and other materials like it.
The backside of ceramic armor plates usually have a ballistic backing of some kind to help give them more multi-strike strength. They tend to be lighter than steel armor but much more expensive.
Level III body armor made from UHMWPE is constructed from layers of polyurethane sheets and fibers pressed together under high heat and pressure. These plates are usually very thick compared to armor made from other materials but they are also extremely lightweight and they actually float.
UHMWPE armor does very well against multiple strikes and is more durable than ceramic plates. The downside is it should not be stored in high heat (like a car sitting in the sun) and can melt if it comes in contact with flames.
Is Level III Body Armor Legal?
This is where I need to give the obligatory disclaimerâŚIâm not a lawyer so only use this section as a guide. It is not legal advice.
Level III Body Armor Legality in the United States: In the United States it is illegal to possess body armor if you are a convicted felon. In Connecticut, it is illegal to ship body armor meaning that all sales must be made face to face. Many other states have made it a felony to commit a violent crime while wearing body armor. Others have made it illegal to wear body armor on school grounds. Check your local laws to be sure!
There has been some talk among politicians in the U.S. about making body armor illegal.
Level III Body Armor Legality in Canada: In Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Nova Scotia a license is required to possess body armor. In the remaining provinces, there are no restrictions.
Level III Body Armor Legality in the UK: In the United Kingdom, there are currently no legal restrictions on the purchase and ownership of body armor.
Level III Body Armor Legality in Australia: In Australia, it is illegal to possess body armor without proper authorization in South Australia, Victoria, Northern Territory, ACT, Queensland, and New South Wales.
[wc_box color=âprimaryâ text_align=âleftâ margin_top=ââ margin_bottom=ââ class=ââ]
AR 500 Armor and Spartan Armor Systems both sell high-quality body armor of all types.
[/wc_box]
How do You Choose What Type of Armor you Should Buy?
Start by determining the threats that youâre most likely to encounter. Ask yourself the following questions:
Are you going to be facing pistol fire or rifle fire?
Do you need knife or spike protection?
Is it okay if others know that youâre wearing body armor?
With level III body armor you need to take the advantages and limitations of each type of armor into consideration.
Level III steel body armor is thin, inexpensive, very durable and lasts the longest amount of time without needing to be replaced. Itâs also heavy.
Ceramic level III body armor is light compared to steel armor and stops penetrating rounds very well. It also comes with the drawbacks that itâs expensive, more delicate than other types of armor and has poor multistrike performance.
UHMPWE body armor is very light (often around 3.5 lbs per plate), has good multistrike performance and has the added benefit of floating in the water. If you plan on being near water or on a boat while wearing your armor, this could be the style of level III body armor for you. It does suffer from being thicker, relatively expensive and can have problems stopping penetrating style rounds.

Related Questions
What is hard body armor? Level III and hard body armor often refer to the same thing. When someone is discussing hard body armor they mean armor that doesnât flex. Level III and IV body armors are considered hard body armor. Some level IIIa is made as hard body armor as well.
Does level III body armor expire? Level III body armor has a shelf life that depends on the construction of the armor. Steel body armor lasts 20 or more years with no maintenance. Ceramic and UHMWPE armor are typically said to have a 5-year shelf life.

Rubber Mats & Bumper Plates Sets
Rubber is among the most commonly used materials worldwide, and it is used across every segment of the market worldwide. Mats are one kind of material that can make extensively usage of. Since rubber is affordable, long-lasting, and able to be molded and colored according to customersâ specifications. Rubber matting is divided into various categories based on its usage. This way, we can provide everything, from fitness mats to mats for bathrooms to ones used in kitchens.
Rubber Mats primary function is to ensure your feet are dry and free of dirt. It is more of a safety product, not an aesthetic item. They are especially beneficial if you have children or the elderly at home, as falls can be catastrophic. Children, however, are prone to bruising themselves due to falls, regardless of their surroundings. The most basic form of matting made from rubber offered worldwide is the simple mat for the entrance. The various types of matting are generally made from a rigid rubber material to extend its life span. In addition, they can be utilized for outdoor use as well as indoors.
Kitchen Matting
The kitchen is among two areas in the home that use rubber mats. This is because a kitchen is a place with a lot of activity. Itâs not unusual for the kitchen floor to become wet and oily after a couple of minutes of preparation. This is why this space could be a danger for pedestrians. The majority of kitchen mats have holes that permit liquids to drain away. These mats also have wider grip varieties due to the thread patterns used on the carpet. They also need to be able to take on grease easily, and youâll often see them advertised as âheavy-duty kitchen mats.â
Bathroom Matting
The bathroom is a different area which is extremely risky because its floors are often wet. This is why accidents and slips frequently happen in bathrooms. Most bathroom mats are made of substances that absorb water exceptionally effectively. However, more than being absorbent is needed. They must permit easy gripping in wet conditions. This is why the rubber is the most suitable material. The water hogs mats are one of the most sought-after bathroom designs currently available. They could also come with additional features that ensure dry floors, such as water dam borders that hold liquids efficiently. Theyâre usually elevated to keep feet away from the wet floor.
Gym Matting
The gym is another location that makes use of mats made of rubber. This is due to the massive amounts of moisture that come in sweat that the gym must deal with. They are a must-have safety device in these areas. The advancement in technology has enabled anti-fatigue mats that allow users to stay on their feet for extended periods without tiring out too fast. They can also be designed to ease back pain and generally are very comfortable for our feet.
Whatever the setting, it is clear that mats made of rubber have many advantages that are not typically found in mats composed of other substances.
There are certain essential things to look out for when buying bumper plates. One of the primary factors to consider is bounce. It should be a shallow bounce, to be exact. Specific bumpers, such as these Hi-Temp bumpers made by Rogue Fitness, give a high bounce. This isnât ideal for Olympic lifting, Crossfitters, or powerlifters, as you want to avoid running after your bar. Also, you donât want the weight of your work and provide an untrue indicator of your progress. But, some bumpers bounce off the ground with an unintentional bounce or with no bounce. These are the preferred types of bumper plates since they barely rise from the ground when they hit the ground. You wonât have to chase your bar around after it has landed when you purchase inexpensive bumpers if you need a different reason to copy what the pros do. The Olympics use Eleiko bumper plates with dead blow bounces and slow blow bounces.
Another aspect to think about when you are looking for bumpers to buy is what guarantees or standards they have as a firm. Do they ensure that plates stay within a certain number of pounds, like 10 grams or more? This is crucial when youâre throwing the weights over your head and need each muscle to be balanced. Pendlay has a dead-blow bounce bumper plate. Additionally, they also place their Bumper Plates Sets in Canada on high-sensitivity calibrated scales so that they deliver a top-quality plate. This is essential because if you buy the forty-five-pound container, you should wait to find a forty-six pounds plate arrive. A difference of five pounds on the other end of the bar could create a massive difference.
If you purchase from a company that adheres to strict guidelines and has all their details out for the world for the public to view and isnât in the manner they claim, youâre on more credibility. However, these shops only have a few words with an exaggerated catchy slogan. Beware of this type of thing. Make sure you choose a seller who is fearless in spelling out all the specifics of the item youâre purchasing. Youâll be much more content when you buy bumper plates.
