I’m tweaking out a little. I went with friends to see the Sonic 3 movie on release day. Was really good ofc. Went to see it a second time the other day with my best friend. Sorta fixating on movie Sonic content. Might even watch the Knuckles show (y’know despite the unnecessary amount of Wade I’ve been hearing about) because he’s my favorite version of Knuckles in the Sonic franchise.

But that’s not what I’m here to yap about.

What I wanna know is why aren’t more people hopping on the Knuxadow ship train? Like???

I’m usually not a big shipper of Knuckles and Shadow, more of Sonadow girlie. But in the movie universe?? Please people imma need y’all to start dropping fanart and fanfics of them before I start having to make it myself.

- Both watch the same soap opera, La Ultima Passion I think it’s called (Knuckles is watching it in an episode of the Knuckles series I think and Shads is getting into it in the movie while hangin with Stone in the Crab). I could totally imagine them watching it together and arguing over the plot lines.

- Both ride motorcycles.

- You can’t tell me Knuckles ain’t the type to fall head over heels for someone who can EASILY kick his ass. “What a woman😳” type vibes but it’s after Shadow rocks his shit.

- IMAGINE Sonic and Tails. Cuz Knuckles is their big brother. Can y’all just imagine them lowkey bullying him? The whole immature nine miles? Making barfing noises if they catch Knuckles and Shadow flirting (in their own way), making very obnoxious kissing noises when Knuckles is gushing about how powerful and strong of a warrior Shadow is. THEY WOULD.

- Also Shadow, not being experienced with romance feelings or a crush, would have no IDEA what he’s feeling. I think his “OH” moment would be while watching other people interact. Be it in a movie/show, seeing Sonic and Amy interact, or Tom and Maddie. A whole “So this is love?” vibe.

- Someone theorized that in the hypothetical Knuckles & Shadow series that Keanu and Edris had talked about, they would be working together to locate all the Chaos Emeralds after they got lost at the end of the movie. CUE TWO SUPER POWERED ALIEN DUDES GOING ON A ROAD TRIP TOGETHER. And I think THAT is when they would become friends and start to form feelings for each other. Chat does this count as forced proximity?

- And we mustn’t forget Tom and Maddie. Tom doing the typical “I don’t want this dude dating my kid” routine (in his case tho it’s fair. Shadow did try to destroy earth and almost killed him) and Maddie would be supportive and I KNOW she would pull out the “leave the door open” line. Iykyk hehehehehe. They would both be really supportive of Knuckles having a crush and I feel like Shadow would try his best to be kind to them for Knuckles. He would be awkward.

- It’s also worth noting that if the whole Black Arms thing does happen in the cinematic universe and it ends like in the Shadow game with Shadow basically killing all of them, Knuckles and Shadow would BOTH be living the “I’m the last of my kind” lives. Not to mention both of their species have MESSY histories. Like we know the Echidnas were not perfect, otherwise they wouldn’t have been at war for so long. And we KNOW that the Dark Arms are all lunatics. Boyfriends can bond over their family drama.

Oh my gosh yes! I love this question!!

Acid storm: Acidstorm is actually in Urban Kiju as a cannon character, why? I thought it was funny. As we’ve seen, she’s part of the losers squad. She fits in perfectly with the meme brain rotted loser guys. She’s good friends with Bai-Suzhen, as they are both veterans of internet fandom

Sparkplug: Due to Megatron being friends with Belial, she goes to Malebrandes academy. Her dad is also an old friend of Alpha Cherno, so she’s childhood best friends with G-danger. She hangs out with that little group most of the time, only doing some sports out of spite, mostly to prove that she can. She doesn’t call herself a jock, she just hangs out with a few.

Nightflyer: Nightflyer also attends Malebrandes academy, at first it was just because his father Starscream was a famous actor. However he soon became one of the best students academically at the academy. He really doesn’t have any friends due to his lack of social skills, so he hangs out with the teachers. Notably, he eats lunch with Professors Ultima each day

Soundblaster: Soundblaster got in on a scholarship to the academy, having the gift of perfect pitch. He found himself immediately being isolated by others due to his looks and intimidating aura. He would be taking in by the loser squad of the academy, unlike the loser squad of Monarch high, these losers are actually smart. He finds himself defending them from bullies

Slipstream: she also goes to the same academy but absolutely hates it. She hates the head mean girls and tried to roll with them, however they would absolutely boring. Both Acid storm and Airachnid go to Monarch high, so she really doesn’t have her possy. She even gets along great with the other mean girls at Monarch high, however she refuses to leave Nightflyer alone at Malebrandes.

Airachnid: she goes to Monarch high with Acid storm, this is because she’s related to Kumonga on her mother’s side. She’s currently acting as a bodyguard for the mean girls click, scaring away losers and over confident jocks that try to hit on them. However she deeply misses Slipstream, and she tends to confide in Barb about her saphic longing.

Felix

The leader of the little group, he still wears blue and gold armor with the symbols scratched off.  While not the strongest fighter by space marine standards, he’s a master logician and tactician and very good at keeping his brothers in line.  Surprisingly charismatic and friendly and lacking the visible mutations of most chaos marines, he’s also the most easily able to interact with baseline humans.  He’s the kind of person you’d expect to find in the CEO’s office claiming no knowledge of the latest discovery that their overseas factories were using slave labor.  For some reason people in this era seem to frown on the slave labor thing, he’s not really sure why.

Batsy

Physically the largest of the lot, Batsy wears armor that’s painted over in gold and encrusted with carefully preserved bloodstains.  Most of it is shadowed by a pair of thick leathery wings which he keeps folded over and around his body.  His former chapter affiliation isn’t immediately obvious, although he has the needle fangs of a son of sanguinius.  They’ve started to grow through his helmet so he can deliver a vicious bite even when fully armored.  Despite being broody in temperament, he’s the most likely of the group to deliver an unexpected kindness.  He has no desire to be a leader and generally seems happy to follow Felix’s orders.  He had another name previously but doesn’t like to mention that either.  He’s in possession of a highly unusual sword that always seems to find its way back to his hand on its own. Sometimes some people can almost catch a glimpse of what looks like some sort of fat rodent hiding under his wings too.

Mic

Full name Michaela, Mic is the group’s tech-marine and has a full complement of mechanical and unusual appendages that you’d expect, making him rather prickly in appearance.  Especially since several the appendages are always clicking or whirring or otherwise making noise.  A genius when it comes to working with vehicles and fond of fighting from the back of an assault bike, preferably with a mounted flamethrower.  His deep red-orange armor still bears the symbol of the Ultima Founding Covenant of Fire chapter, with an Eight Pointed Star superimposed over top of it.  Despite his utility he still tends to get bullied by his brothers a lot.

Clive raises an eyebrow: "What are you doing?"

Nektar raises a paw: "I am going to challenge him to a duel for the fair maiden's hand!"

Clive blinks: "... May I ask why?"

Nektar hovers around: "She places a kiss upon my forehead every morning as she heads to the kitchen! She holds me and allows me to rest my weary head upon her bosom! Just yesterday, she had asked if I would live in Rosaria with her!"

Clive folds his arms: "... I see..."

Nektar flails his arms: "It is clearly love!"

Joshua chuckles upon approaching: "He is as energetic as ever, I see."

Clive: "He wishes to challenge you to a duel for Eir's hand."

Joshua stares at his brother for a moment. Meanwhile, Nektar does his best to puff out his chest in order to appear intimidating.

Joshua laughs: "Oh, I see. This is one of those jests meant to spur me into action. Perhaps you should have chosen an actual man instead of a Moogle."

Nektar inhales a high-pitched gasp that sounds like air leaking out of a balloon.

Joshua: "Well, I will have you know I do intend to, but... Facing Ultima will be dangerous. We know not of what will happen, and so I do not wish to make her feel as though she cannot move on..."

Nektar: "It's alright, when something happens to you, I will be here to dry her tear--"

Nektar proceeds to flail as Clive interrupts him by tugging on one of his ears.

There was peace, for a time, and in its joyful succor, new life.

And that new life in the Scions' orbit just now consisted of three young children. Doenstymm and Melusine were Klynt's oldest and youngest, respectively. Of an age just between the other two was Adrian, Aymeric's child, who often served as the connecting bridge between the older Doenstymm, looking after the other two, and the younger Melusine, who looked up to them both in many ways. The Scions often after looked after Adrian, serving as a family of sorts to them, bonds strengthened by their time together, the latest in a long string of favors traded back and forth ever since their time in Ishgard.

While their parents did not force them together, they often found themselves together nevertheless, looking after one another, protecting one another, and, of course, antagonizing one another in the matter that siblings tended to.

And what an odd family they were a part of. Doenstymm and Melusine shared a mother, but had different fathers, and Adrian with a father, but no mother to speak of at all. And the Scions themselves were an odd group, serving as aunts and uncles and cousins, making sure the children always had an adult nearby they could rely upon.

Zoissette stood back with the other Scions, a faint smile on her face. She had just gotten done retelling the stories of the Doman Adventurer's Guild to the three young children, and now they were excited to have adventures of their own. Before they were allowed off, however, Y'shtola was not so much lecturing as she was teaching them. Lessons were interspersed with brief anecdotes they each found amusing, and she asked questions of them to keep them engaged. Once satisfied, she let them go, and the three ran off, arguing about whether to mimic those adventures or try to have some of their own.

"You two are awfully good with children," said Alisaie to Y'shtola and Zoissette.

"Tis no small matter to instruct them for their own safety, but I believe they now know enough to make their mistakes their own. Such shall allow me later to confidently tell them that I did indeed 'told them so'," said Y'shtola with false primness, coming to stand up on her tip toes and give Zoissette a kiss before standing at her side.

"What a group of adorable ragamuffins," said Alisaie fondly, watching as the three found Alphinaud in the markets and begin to swarm around him, pestering him with questions as he twisted around and laughed, trying gamely to answer them and keep an eye on all three of them.

"What is that I hear in your voice? Considering motherhood?" asked Krile mischievously, looking up at Alisaie with a grin.

Heavens, no," replied Alisaie. "I think I shall leave continuing the family name to Alphinaud. I think he has more the temperament for it."

"Does he?" replied Krile, watching as Doenstymm started scaling up Alphinaud like he was an ambulatory tree. "Perhaps if he learns to not let himself be bullied by children."

Alphinaud was still laughing, even as he tried to fend off the other two while wilting under Doenstymm's robust Roegadyn weight.

"I'm not quite certain he even knows he -is- being bullied," said Alisaie. She glanced over to see that the smile on Zoissette's face had not faded, only softened, as Y'shtola intwined their arms and leaned against her.

"And what of our Warrior of Light and her paramour?" asked Alisaie. "You two ever consider following Klynt's example?"

Zoissette looked over at Y'shtola, then down at the ground.

"I do not think I would make a very good mother," she said.

"Oh, come now, you're good at just about everything else."

"So was my mother," said Zoissette, her voice quiet.

Krile and Alisaie exchanged looks.

"Oh, I am sorry!" said Zoissette brightly, turning to Alisaie. "I did not mean to bring down the mood. It is just, that, well."

She stopped, and Y'shtola stepped in gamely. "As for mine own perspective, I would mislike to follow in Matoya's footsteps. I love her as my own mother, but, well, you have met her. I do not regret my childhood, but I am not sure I would wish to put another through that self-same experience. That I was well suited to the circumstances under which I was raised was fortuitous."

"Well, not that I wish to influence you one way or another," said Krile. "But while it is traditional for the student to follow in the footsteps of her master, I believe it is also celebrated when their path carries beyond that set for them. I think you would make a wonderful mother."

"Perhaps," said Y'shtola, looking up at Zoissette, who was now distracted, watching the children.

"And as for you, I should think you've got the chance to do a fair bit of good yourself," said Krile to Zoissette, her tone gentle. "I've seen the way you and Y'shtola take turns with the children. How you teach them, how you so obviously care for them. And you're both wise enough to lean on us as necessary. I don't know your history, but I feel you've got a good chance to do a fair sight better than most parents, if you took the chance."

"A chance is not worth the risk," replied Zoissette, so quietly as to almost unable to be heard.

It was many bells later, after the children had been put to bed. Zoissette lounged on her back on a couch where she could see the door to the children's room, Y'shtola laying on top of her, her head on her chest.

"Adrian is a good child," said Y'shtola. "They all are."

"And Aymeric an excellent father," said Zoissette, slowly and gently running a hand up and down Y'shtola's back.

"Mayhap we could be, as well."

"Aymeric is a good father, for good reasons," said Zoissette. "You remember what he said, when I asked him why he wanted to be a father."

"To raise a child in the new Ishgard, free of the fetters of the old. To watch as that child became, grew up, full of the potential of that newness. Whatever path the child chose, it would be of their own choosing, and Aymeric wished to witness that, and support that. Of course I well remember. It was very well spoken, as usual, but also... well. Sentimental, but inspirational. I full felt a joy at the idea."

Zoissette nodded.

"Good motives. Noble motives. He will do fine. If I were to step in to such a role, however... Shtola. I would just be trying to not be my mother. That is no way to raise a child. They deserve more than to be something to someone trying to ... make up for their own hurts."

"I have similar fears," murmured Y'shtola into Zoissette. "But Krile has the right of it. We have all the Scions with us, to share wisdom, to share effort. 'Twould not be a lonely endeavor, but a shared one, and how much richer we might all be for it."

"Aymeric can also afford to be present for his child nearly all of the time. We are absent a lot, Y'shtola, you know that."

"Yet Klynt manages."

"Klynt... Klynt has an intuition for how these sort of things will go that I lack, a gregarious nature, several fathers who see each other kindly and help share the burdens of parentage, and a spirit that allows her to be and share a freedom I lack," said Zoissette. "I do not know how she manages it, to be honest. I am not sure I could."

Y'shtola sighed into Zoissette.

"A risk not worth the chance," she said. "But is that risk not already present? We could try, you know. You could step forward. I would be with you. You know this."

"I know," said Zoissette, wrapping her other arm around Y'shtola, and giving her a hug. "But I cannot bring myself to believe it would be the right thing. Not while I still harbor this anger against Elspeth. Against my own mother. Not while I... they deserve better."

Y'shtola nodded. "Well. The children are well loved, anyroad. Perhaps it does not matter. And perhaps you are right. I too am worried that in practice I would be little better than my own Matoya."

Zoissette relaxed under Y'shtola.

"We might sleep in our own bed," suggested Y'shtola.

"Maybe," said Zoissette.

Neither moved, both keeping on eye on the children's door, even as Zoissette reached and pulled a blanket over them both, even as they both fell asleep.

little things from my MYS AU

calling this *ALMOST*-nobody-meets-until-post-college AU "My New Neighbors" since I'm terrible with coming up at titles. i don't know how much i'll be adding under the cut (the idea is only like two days old lol) but I'll add a read-more bar anyway

Aphmau still knows Katelyn and KC from the start (when they all met each other idk yet tho). They all choose to move in together now that they've graduated from college

Aph and Katelyn went to the same college while KC went to it's sister college, which specialized more in magicks. There she met Michi and June (yes, minigame-exclusive June, i like her design okay) at a mefi'wa sorority

Garroth is shy like his Side Stories persona and met Laurance in college, they were roommates their entire time there. When they met, Garroth was a complete recluse and it took a lot of effort on Laurance's part to get him to go out more often. Post-college they both live together while they try to get their careers afloat

Laurance works as a barista and a part-time bartender, using his flirtatious charms to get better tips (works very well) and settle down angry customers (does NOT work very well)

Ultima stuff isn't canon anymore, but Aaron uses a bandana to hide his face initially because he's actually an ex-child actor that came out in a god-awful controversial cereal commercial that his father's entertainment company produced, which has caused him trouble to this very day

Aaron works as a security guard

KC is a complete girlfailure and Travis is a suave but hopeless loser. The two of them have really poor love lives

Dante and Nicole are dating, they met at the martial arts dojo she teaches at and he fell for her after she flipped him upside down during a demonstration to the class

Lucinda runs an etsy-like potion shop, no refunds or returns

Michi runs an etsy-like shop where she sells curses, hexes, and spells

Vylad travels all the time and only really talks to his mom and Garroth

Zane is a trust fund baby magic artifact scholar that jumps from job to job after discovering that his degree turned out to be useless. He's a compulsive blackmailer is the only member of the HOA in the neighborhood

Garroth has been estranged from his dad family for the past 2 years due to taking off with his trust fund money after college instead of taking over the family business like he was supposed to. His dad is still trying to track him down

Zane frequently blackmails Garroth

Sasha is more gloomy and goth, has been fired from several potion shops due to her poor potion making skills. It's not that she can't make potions that work, she just can't ever seem to make them work the way she intended them to (she always ends up substituting ingredients)

Zoey moves into the neighborhood sometime after Aphmau does (because it'd be cool to add her to mystreet :D)

Cadenza lives in the bigger city and is a successful seamstress and works for a high-end fashion company

Katelyn is more cold and awkward like her earlier personality, but she still doesn't take crap from nobody

Dante knows Garroth and Laurance through Nicole, who knows them since she used to be friends with Garroth when they were kids (although they only met again very recently)

KC, Michi, and June all like to make dolls and modify dolls. KC specializes in ball-jointed dolls, Michi in plastic/fashion dolls, and June in plushies

Aph, Katelyn, KC, Garroth, Laurance, Dante, Nicole, Aaron, Zane, and Zoey all live in the same neighborhood

Lucinda, Travis, Michi, June, all live elsewhere. Michi and June share an apartment, but June mostly stays with her parents while Michi has free reign of the space

Gene, Sasha, and Zenix live together in a crummy apartment center not too far from the neighborhood

KC will still be named Nana, but to keep the idea of her fake name she'll initially go by either her middle name or just doesn't name herself after a in-universe popular manga character bc how would she have not been bullied relentlessly for that. Like imagine if Garroth changed his name to Naruto

Ein MyStreet isn't a compelling villain to me.

Please note how I said ME in the title. This is just how I feel. You're entitled to your own opinions. Also this isn't the most professional analysis, I am just saying what's on my mind in the moment. Anyway, let's get into it.

OK so basically: Ein had a lot of potential. In the first half of season 1 he was a cute "bad" boy who just wanted to not be the Omega of the school whilst also having a crush on Aphmau. Then Aphmau made him Alpha Male and then he stopped being a character.

It's framed that everything he did with Aphmau was just a ploy to get the position of Alpha but like... He was so genuine so many times? He was blushing and all, he helped her out with the hair dye. He was a good boy who actually had a thing for Aph.

But ok, let's just ignore his characterization up until the twist because ooohhh he's actually really mean and manipulative. Maybe it's because of the power he now has after being bullied for so long but it's SUCH a jarring shift in character for him.

I guess Jessica wanted to make an actual Villain character since Gene and Balto weren't the most threatening and evil but like... They're in high school? They're not gonna be evil masterminds like what she was trying to do with Ein.

Gene and Balto were just bullies and that fit for PDH S1. Ein being evil is to shut down any romantic progression he would have with Aphmau since Kai got character assassinated and was a dick to her on a date (+ Ein's meddling)

All so that Aaron can come "save the day" and beat up Ein and save Aphmau from an evil man that she never figured out was evil. The most Evil things Ein did was pick an Omega without Aph and also ruin her date.

Ein didn't want to be the omega anymore since he was sick of being seen as weak and being bullied and ignored, and the teacher WANTED him to take that title willingly, even after everything he's gone through with it. And he KNOWS that Aph would try and convince him To take it on as well, so that's why he picked one by himself. And the date thing... Yeah idk why he did that maybe he was just jealous idk i forgor.

OH YEAH and he beat the shit out of Kasey so that Katelyn can have a reason to be racist towards werewolves when the Ultima Reveal. Completely forgot about that.

I honestly think PDH S2 had an interesting set up with the love triangle. Kai has Aaron's personality whilst Ein has Aaron's attitude. (Aph & Aaron's romance is awful but i'm just pointing out symbolism).

Ein was also racist towards Humans since he is a werewolf supremacist and he wanted to make Aphmau a werewolf so that she'd be perfect. Also werewolves are a minority that's discriminated against so this character trait is a bit uh... Yikes!

Also I just remembered this but Ein was working with Gene to get close to Aphmau and Gene wanted pictures of Aphmau for some fucking reason?? What was that about. We get no context on this other than 1 scene btw.

So the next time we see Ein is in Emerald Secret! Oh boy, I got some words.

So about 15 years pass since PDH S2 and everyone is an adult in their late 20s. What has Ein been doing in all that time? Obsessing over a girl he met in high school, researching heavily into a folk lore in order to turn her into a werewolf. Also he's been doing illegal potion making and used one of those potions to turn an actual wolf, human, so that he can be the alpha of her wolf pack.

Also he's working with the biggest bad of them all, Micheal! But we don't meet him until Season 6 or something. He also may or may not be mind controlling Ein during Emerald Secret we don't know.

So what else does Ein do this season now that he's the big bad again? Other than the wolf thing, he also brainwashes Aphmau's friends into thinking he's their brother, makes Aphmau obey his every word and love him whilst also despising Aaron.

And makes her attempt to kill Aaron. Despite the fact that he needs Aaron to turn her into a werewolf first, after he denies when he's asked, Ein was like "Ok well. Aph kill him lmao."

He also "dies" in the end by getting mauled by the pack of wolves he made himself Alpha of.

I don't think it takes that much brainpower to see why this is an awful twist (he was also a twist villain btw we didn't know it was him until midway). His motivation is stupid, why are you still obsessed with some girl from high school, you're 28.

Why does he even still have those pictures of her in high school? Like if you're gonna be obsessed with her, at least stalk her so you can get the modern update???

Also, his werewolf supremacy is played up big time here to the point it makes you question why he wasn't obsessing over Aaron like Xavier was. Maybe Jessica didn't wanna repeat motivation? But Ein & Xavier are very different characters, you could make it work.

He was just a mess of a villain once you think about his motivation for 2 seconds. And then he shows up in When Angels Fall!! This one is shorter I promise.

So in WAF Ein uses another illegal potion to make werewolves (who were in hiding since the Government is taking every single one of them and interrogating them because they might be some ancient folklore beast). And makes them all obey his every word and call him Alpha.

It's confirmed that after High School, werewolf packs and Alphas don't matter in the real world so it's weird that he was obsessed with it in Emerald Secret.

Anyway after that, he kidnaps Aphmau to hold Aaron ransom and when he gets his werewolf ears back (Aaron took them away in ES) he kills Aphmau because he was being mind controlled by Micheal.

And then Aaron and Ein fight on a bridge, Aaron kills his mind controlled friends, and then kills Ein. So let's talk about it.

the thing with this is that... It just shows that Ein COULD'VE been written well if he was mind controlled by Micheal with the illegal potions. Since Micheal had 100% access to Ein at any time and Ein played a major role in Micheal's plan to trauma trigger Aaron.

And honestly it would've made Ein a much more compelling character if he just... Didn't have control over his actions. One theme with the main group is that they decide what to do with their lives and how to move forward.

But that wouldn't apply to someone who was controlled, now, would it? And since we know that the person under the effects of a forever potion still have a conscious, and can see all the acts that they don't have control over, it would've made Ein a tragic villain.

And if he was mind controlled by Micheal during Emerald Secret it would explain why Ein was obessed with Aphmau despite it being so weird. Because guess what, Ein & Aphmau are half siblings! So that re-contextualizes every interaction they ever had.

I think that Ein should've had an actual character instead of being a cartoon villain like Micheal was. Ein is the only character to have so much DIRECT action towards the main cast. Why would you make him so messy and one dimensional?

And the whole Mind Control thing is something that can be easily done. Ein uses forever potions to make people Obey Him, and since Micheal doesn't have enough power to mind control Ein 24/7, him using a potion like that on Ein would make so much sense.

Since Ein is shown to be decent at potion making and magic by the time we meet him. Micheal is the only one who could've taught him all of that. And the thing is: IT'S CANNON ONLY IN WAH. They met before ES but it's left so vague on what their relationship was that you could say Ein did everything in Emerald Secret by his own volition and you'd be right since nothing is confirmed.

If Jessica wanted to make this a serious story, WHY WOULD YOU STOP AT THE MOST RELEVANT VILLAIN??? He's literally related to Aphmau and was apart of the experimentation in some way but we don't know because he's not a character enough for him to be lore relevant other than him being a plot device. I'm so upset on the way Jessica wrote him since he could've been so much more than he actually was.

I wanna add something: The mind controlled by Micheal thing is only one possibility with his character. You can do a whole lot of other things. The reason why I focused on the mind-control thing is that it's an easy cop-out Jessica could do in order to make Ein an actual character.

Jessica isn't the best writer and loves tropes & cop-outs so it very well could've been done in story. But instead she let Ein be vague as hell and also tying him so closely into the lore.

I just want Ein to be a coherent character with understandable motivations behind his actions. There is no excuse for him to be this important and yet so messily written.

And now he's dead. RIP Ein MyStreet. You could've been one of the greatest.

I finally listened to the tsundere bully/boyfriend series because I was having enemies to lovers withdrawls with a chronic lack of my beloved Mechanis (listening to those foir audios over and over again, I love Mechanis and his dynamic with Ultima and off-duty Ultima so so much).

Weirdly enough, now I am thinking about that trope meme. It could make a good short fic based partially around the fact that I really have no idea what Curse actually does in Ultima VII, and none of my friends seem to know either 🤔

In my AU, Sethys sort of got shoehorned into the group's Cleric role because of his knowledge of fundamental healing magic (also first aid, as well as makin' potions, poultices, incendiary devices &c &c). As the Imbalance Wars approached their bloodiest apex (and wretched conclusion), Sethys was traveling around the especially volatile Northlands of his homeland; he would frequently get drafted into local riots and skirmishes as a street/field medic. The skills he honed in those days proved to be extremely useful during his Adventures with the Avatar and her hapless companions.

But how do you handle someone getting Cursed? Or even better, Mass Curse on everyone? The incantation for the spell Curse is Des Sanct: "Reduce Protection". It's a debuff, basically.

As for Protected/Protector, you can set a party member to be "Protected" and another to have the combat style "Protect", in which the latter will focus on defending the former. Sometimes when a party member gets really low on hit points, they will set themselves to Protected and call for help.

I dunno. Maybe I can go somewhere with this? Might be a good recipe for Hi Jinx (no pun intended, but what a good title?) and so on.

On a unrelated but actually kinda related note, it would seem that different NPCs have different default combat types at the very very start of a new game. Without reading too much into this (since most of these are arbitrarily set or a simply default value), I still think it's really funny that your big blowhard bully/coward knight Wilfred is set to focus on the "Weakest" foes. It's so in-character. Meanwhile, Sethys is set to "Defend", the one where you just focus on self-defense; it's not seen very often in NPCs.
