alright bucktommy nation strap in.
so max gao had said on twitter that 08x08 “Sob Stories” will most likely be the mid season finale and that airs on 11/21, where does that leave us?
- ep. 5 & 6 are bucktommy centric - they’re the b plot. we’ve seen/are going to see conflict & resolution between them. are they going to breakup? absolutely not. tim & oliver want buck off of the hamster wheel, and buck having conflict with a partner and them breaking up after a few episodes is repetitive & quite honestly they’re done with that storyline for buck. tim also loves lou/tommy, lou loves tommy & oliver loves buck & tommy’s relationship and lou wouldn’t give up this role.
will there be angsty storylines? of course, this is a drama show. doesn’t mean they’re gonna breakup, we’ve seen conflicts like this happen a lot. i can confidently say that they are thinking if not already putting it in that tommy is bucks endgame.
- ep. 8 is a little different. we’ll have a little storyline for buck but in my mind i think his storyline for that episode will be c plot. eddie will be a plot, and he will resolve that he has to go to texas and - this is wishful thinking - a plot will be madney. ep. 8 will establish that buck & tommy are still together before the hiatus and we’ll definitely have a cliffhanger for another major character.
so don’t fret or worry. buck and tommy will not be breaking up, the same writer & director of 07x04 are the same people working on 08x06 so, this will be a big win for us, so let’s have fun, share some theories and works to get us through this hiatus when it starts in 4 weeks 🫡

Lou definitely got me in the divorce…
i never thought that after watching the show since season 3 lou would be getting me in the divorce, but he definitely is.
tim and oliver showed me that they never really care about making bisexuality representation justice because if they did, that breakup and that oliver interview would not have been handled that way.
meanwhile, lou is giving interviews clearly heartbroken and blindsided, but still being so sweet about the whole thing. even when he's talking about receiving death treats, he's still so grateful for the opportunity.
he deserved better, we deserved better, and the queer community specifically deserved better than that biphobic shit show that aired last night.

Twas the week of Halloween, when all through the halls, not one topic was ruling from Gravity Falls
A historic turn of events! In this last Week in Review of 2024, Mouthwashing tops the list and has—get this—more items on here than Gravity Falls! WowOwow. The Phandom is celebrating 15 years of Dan and Phil being chaotic next to each other, and it's been a big week for 9-1-1 fans who were treated to a wild ride in the Halloween episode "Masks." Fans of Agatha All Along got a double-whammy of Halloween, with a castle on the way playing dress up with Agatha and Billy, and the identity of the personification of Death revealed. And so, our national holiday of Halloween is now well and truly upon us—keep an eye out for some nice and friendly and not at all spooky polls haunting your dash this week. Happy Halloween, and stay safe out there (we don't want anyone contracting curses, ok?). This is Tumblr's Week in Review.

You know, while this is and should be at the very bottom of concerns arising from the results of the US elections, there's one thing that I've been thinking about for weeks and we all should be aware of, imho.
All the queer representation we've had in recent years in movies and TV shows, all the big victories and groundbreaking depictions of queer love - that is likely going to be over.
Project 2025 lays out a very strict agenda to focus on "traditional Christian values"; things like pornography are explicitly named as something to be outlawed, but if you read between the lines it goes far beyond that. They could deem everything that doesn't correspond with traditional "family values" and traditional gender roles as worthy of censorship and worse. Russia has done it; you technically can be gay but you can't talk about it, show it, promote it. Many other nations have the same approach.
This may be the worst case scenario, because the American entertainment industry is global and influential and might not easily give in to extreme censorship, but it's far from unlikely to happen.
So what exactly could that mean? It could mean that any depictions of queer characters and queer relationships would have to be either be reduced to hinted at background characters, or going back to subtextual queer coding like under the Hays code. Or it could even mean that no such portrayal, even hinted at, is allowed in future.
In any case, getting something like Agatha All Along again, or Bucktommy, or movies like Love Simon etc. would no longer be allowed to be produced and broadcast/streamed in the US. And since the US and the US market dominate the Western-based entertainment industry, studios would likely refrain from producing such shows and movies in Canada or Europe because the huge American market would no longer buy these works.
And while, yes, this is not nearly as bad as women being sentenced to life for murdering their child just because they had a miscarriage, or gay marriages being dissolved across the country, or Palestine having no chance of surviving at all any longer, it still is something that concerns and impacts me greatly.
Entertainment is something that keeps many of us afloat in difficult times. And since many of us are queer, queer representation is very important to us. If we can no longer have it, it'll be a drastic impairment of our quality of life - worldwide, even if we're not Americans and live in (mostly) stable democracies in the West.
Maybe I'm being fatalist, but I think it's time we count our blessings. It's time we're happy for what we got and what we're still going to get in the next few months - what has already been filmed and produced and can still be published before such restrictive censorship laws are implemented. It's not a time for ship wars and shitting on existing queer representation, or fighting amongst ourselves.
We may never get again what we got this year, unless we look to British shows or other non-American productions and broadcasts. This is an option, of course, but it'll still be a tremendous loss for all of us who enjoy TV and cinema.

this was inspired by chatter in the tag earlier in the week about tommy not having the reflex to ask for help, not having an emergency contact, etc. bucktommy nation, i'm loving it here.
more a request than a proposal
Wednesday afternoon, as the 118 drove back from a small grease fire, Buck received a text from Tommy.
gonna need a raincheck on hiking Saturday
He kept his expression neutral so his friends wouldn't notice and start giving him a hard time. No problem. Everything okay?
yeah of course. brunch instead? I'll order in
He spent the rest of the week telling himself there was probably nothing wrong.
Saturday, at the agreed upon time, Buck showed up at Tommy's door, looked down at the boot Tommy was wearing, and felt a burst of something ugly which he instantly tried to squash. At least he wasn't getting dumped. "Uh, hey. What happened there?"
Tommy rolled his eyes at himself. "I broke my foot a few days ago."
"What?"
"Yeah, Tuesday night. I'd just maxed out my flight hours and-" He cocked his head. "Why is your face doing that?"
Buck walked away, got in his car, and sat there as Tommy stopped blinking in confusion and went back inside.
Ten seconds later, Buck was ringing the bell again.
Tommy didn't raise an eyebrow, but the muscle twitched like he'd considered it. "I'd ask if you left something behind, but you didn't actually get through the door."
"I was off on Tuesday," Buck said.
"Okay?"
"You knew that. We compared both our schedules for the week. That was how we settled on Saturday."
"I recall." Tommy grimaced. "Look, can we go inside? Standing is not my favorite right now."
"Oh!" Shit. "Yeah. Yeah, of course."
Following close behind as Tommy settled on the couch, Buck grabbed a throw pillow for his foot to seem marginally less useless. Now inside, surrounded by all things Tommy, he felt decidedly off-kilter. "Do you... want me here?"
"I thought I did," Tommy said, laying his head against the arm of the couch with a tired sigh. "Go on, tell me what your problem is."
From there, Buck could see the kitchen table laden with takeout containers and a pitcher of orange juice. "Food's getting cold," he pointed out.
"I didn't have much appetite anyway. The food was my clever way of luring you here." He smiled at that, a little, rueful one.
Buck wanted to smile back. He wanted to say Tommy was the only lure he needed. "How did you get home from the ER?"
"I mean, my crew still had more than half a 24 to go, so." He lifted his phone and shook it a bit.
"Uber," Buck said, wanting to break something.
Tommy melted more against the couch as the penny dropped. "Evan, we've been dating three months. I didn't want you to feel obligated."
"It's been a big three months," Buck said.
"Yeah." Tommy gave another little smile. "Sinking ships and runaway grooms and drug cartels, oh my."
"You showed up for me on multiple occasions in that time." The only other options for seating were too far away. Buck knelt on the carpet near the couch.
"You look like you're proposing." Tommy snorted, then looked mildly alarmed. "Take out a ring right now and I'll scream."
"Shut up," he said with a quiet laugh. Tentatively, he reached for Tommy's hand, and smiled as Tommy let their fingers tangle together. "Sorry for being weird. It's just, I like you a lot."
"Ditto," Tommy said, rolling his wrist a few degrees, watching their hands with a strange light in his eyes.
"It hasn't sucked, right? Being my next call after my family when something happens."
"No." Tommy looked thoughtful. His thumb rubbed the back of Buck's hand. "Sucked is not the word I'd use."
"You've been in pain this whole time and I had no idea. I hate that."
The second sigh was more weary than the first. "Evan, it's okay. I'm-"
"If you want me to- to go, I will." They were still so new. Buck couldn't insist on anything, he could only offer. "I know you can take care of yourself. You don't have to, though. Not all the time."
Tommy tugged on their hands, pulling Buck closer. "Stay."

BiAsBuck’s ficrec Fridays
Happy Friday everyone! Back again with another round of the fic I've been reading this week. You can find previous rec lists here.
A reminder I'm here for all buddie/bucktommy/buddietommy configurations, enough love to go around!
17 May 2024
through the fire and the sound by @kirkaut 'It all starts when Tommy has to cancel their plans for Friday. Or: Evan Buckley and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.' The reason this week's rec list is coming a little later in the day, was because I was absolutely immersed in this 10k one shot and couldn't stop reading! I really loved the Buck characterisation in particular in this one, his voice rang out so strongly, supported, teased and cared for by the 118, and just ready to take those next steps with Tommy. Loved how their relationship was developed and showcased with the depth of love explored. After a series of bad calls end in injury, sometimes you have to embrace the moment!
you’ve got too much to wear on your sleeve by @try-set-me-on-fire apparently I was in the mood for some good ol' hurt/comfort this week, because in this one Tommy’s helicopter goes down, and whilst Maddie reassures Buck he'll be ok, in an effort to distract himself from worrying on the job, Buck concentrates on fixing the station AC unit. I really enjoyed the structure of this one, how Buck's work continues even once he knows what's happened because he still has a shift, and Tommy sending Maddie updates to reassure Buck was just very sweet.
prescribed burn and aerial ignition by @wakeupnew is a brilliantly crafted 7x06 coda, in which 'Tommy's busy fighting a wildfire at the edge of the Angeles National Forest, but every time he checks his phone, he has an increasingly unbelievable series of text messages.' I LOVED the text messages added in to this fic, such a great mix of sweet and drunken and funny and charming and appropriately alarming. Continuing the trend of them showing concern for each other, I also just loved Tommy's appreciation of clipboard Buck, drunk Buck, worried brother-in-law Buck and safe in his arms Buck. And the follow up is a beautifully soft and sexy morning after epilogue.
give your heart and soul to charity by @exhuastedpigeon is a buddie fic with background 'keeping things fluid' bucktommy, and crucially in which 'Eddie dumps God, gets some more therapy, accepts parts of himself he was taught to hate, loves his best friend, and loves himself.' With gorgeous evocative writing, lots and lots of Eddie introspection and some very pleasing healing Catholic Guilt to joyful unrepression arc, there's emotional ups and downs along the way that made my heart ache.
To Build a Home We Deconstruct Our Rituals by @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels was another buddie fic I was recommended from a few years ago to read to get inside Eddie's head and is my favourite of tropes - fake marriage of convenience with co-habitation and mutual pining and very real feelings they've yet to articulate. Post-shooting, Eddie has concerns about the legal strength of Buck being Christopher's guardian in case of his death...so he totally marries him about it. My favourite thing was just nobody really batting an eye, until it became undeniable. And Maddie's reaction.
i could be the one (or your new addiction) by @bucktheally 'Five times Buck had to put a dollar in the Mentioning Tommy jar during 7x07, and one time nobody was around to catch him.' 118 firefam team banter my beloved!! As fun as this season has been I am MISSING ME some firetruck team conversations allowed by a longer season, and this fic fills the void magnificently.
PS - once again sending out the signal to ask if you have any henren authors/fic recs I should check out PLEASE let me know! I love them!
Also it's my birthday tomorrow and you know you want to point me towards any of your buddietommy fics that I missed!

I’m pretty sure you’ve got a lot of these before, but I’m just in awe that ABC did that. They made Buck bi on NATIONAL FUCKING TELEVISION. 9-1-1 isn’t a small time show, no it’s a famous mainstream procedural. 9-1-1 has been capable for representation, but it’s more than a surprise that this happened. I was just happy with implicit bisexual Buck who knew he his sexuality all along, but then this happened and I liked that interpretation even more. Because we don’t get to see a lot of characters realizing they’re queer outside of college age. And to have Buck especially, a 30+ guy who has had a history for being a womanizer, has had all his past relationships be women, be bi? And that be a new thing for him to discover?? That’s amazing!!! So amazing. It means a lot to me, who’s aroace, not even in the neighborhood of bisexual, and to those people who relate to Buck in this instance. ABC didn’t have to do this, in fact they could just lean on the implicit bi head canon most of the fandom had just to be safe. But no, they went above and beyond to have Buck realize he’s bi in his 30s by having a man kiss him on the mouth in MAINSTREAM TV (I’m never over that). ABC has done more than enough for us 911 fans and has continued to give more. As someone who’s used to being queerbaited and having their queer ships never come true because it’s ‘not normal’. This is just a breath of fresh air. That this thing is treated like a regular thing.
I remember lamenting to my friend that my ship tastes will always be ‘not canon and never will be’ because it’s all queer. And she replied to me saying ‘maybe one day your ship taste will be a canon standard’
And we’re here. 3 years after that comment was made. Sure buddie is not canon yet, but the chance of it is there. Which is more than previous shows can claim. Add to the fact that more queer ships are becoming canon.
I’m just happy with all the changes queer representation is going through. Buddie may not be canon, but it’ll be, they’re inevitable in my eyes. So let’s enjoy Bucktommy for now and watch Buck explore this new facet of himself with Tommy’s help

In the trying times that Buck was not looking for a relationship, he never knew he’d found something just what he needed when he was trying to save his father from a capsized cruise ship.
Love? Could be. Friendship? I think we already know he’s way past that. Sure he may have stumbled, fumbled and fall (maybe not the correct tense but I wanted the quote to fit lol) all the while he was meeting some new guy, he did managed to get up. Eventually.
Opening his horizons, he met with the guy, tried to get his attention. May even failed a couple of times trying to seek it from the wrong person, yes I’m talking about Eddie, but he still kinda found his way, or rather, charmed the man he was trying to go for.
Vicious he may seem for maiming his best friend, just to get some guy’s attention, rest assured he feels bad for doing such a thing, and I’m pretty sure he apologized to Eddie off screen, so there’s that.
Everything fell into place right after that incident. Buck at the loft, Tommy at the loft, both expressing how sorry they are about each others’ actions and laying out all their feelings which was a bit weird to be doing for someone you just met.
But yet they never held back. Both of them. They weaved through their emotions, they stayed truthful with each other all the while keeping a subtle and light tone throughout the entire conversation.
Until the kiss came.
Counting towards every second from Tommy entering until Tommy kissing our (or at least my) favorite firefighter, it was not that much. But then again, this is just a procedural TV show and I’m no showrunner to tell them that things are moving too quickly.
Killing this… relationship off, even before it started was definitely a bad move, any normal person can see that, you don’t have to be a writer or showrunner to see that these two have chemistry, generic for that matter, which is the good kind of chemistry.
That day when that episode aired, was a good day. The day when Buck kissed Tommy for the first time and opened up so many doors into Buck’s whole identity, so many things available for him to be explored to be learned to be… experienced.
Only at that moment he could truly say that Buck was free to be called bisexual. He never understood what it meant before, but with Tommy giving him the tiny push? It was as if the fog has started to clear up and Buck could start seeing what’s in front of him a little better now.
My only doubt is that I didn’t get to watch it sooner, but I did my time, got caught up. Even started watching as far back as 1x01 (oooo scary I know) and finished strong until 7x05 while everyone was still on the mid season break.
Me watching from pilot up to the current episode has been a roller coaster ride and I just want to thank the moots for making it fun along the way and I hope we all get to be with each other to see this relationship through even after they break up (but I really hope not), because sharing this space with the toxic bestie boos after the fact would be a nightmare, so yeah, thank you.
Yeah, just… Thanks, for everything. Don’t take this as a goodbye from me. LMAO. I’m not going anywhere, I’m just saying my thanks, but I have to point out. Y’all saw that didn’t you? What I wrote? Well if you didn’t, it’s on the first letter of every paragraph. Hope you enjoyed what I had to say in my tiny emotional kind-of-rant and also to my hidden message. Good night BuckTommy nation! 🙂

These cut out storylines (not just BuckTommy also Gerrard or Henren and Mara) that were teased but never executed look fishy. Who knows how long ABC will keep them going. I doubt there will be any major gigs after this show ends for most of the cast so Oliver better pray for Tim to manages to keep the Buddies on site since those people will be the only ones who will still care about Bucks personal life enough to keep ratings maybe steady. The GA was fed up with Bucks revolving door before Tommy and I doubt that changed. Ratings started to decline and I think this will continue. Oliver got his little boost in profile for a moment and one Access interview on national TV thanks to that storyline but now it is back to local stations where they won´t even know his characters name. I love this for him after the disrespect he has shown to the storyline and to his fellow actor, ngl. I never liked the guy much and I´m pleased that more people see it now.
i was never particularly fond of oliver, but i always liked giving people the benefit of the doubt if they are not doing something that is clearly wrong. oliver not engaging with bucktommy content wasn't wrong, he has every right to not vibe with the relationship and he's allowed to not like lou, not everyone needs to be friends.
HOWEVER, he should be professional and respectful. the same goes for tim. if you decide to tell a queer storyline, even though none of them are queer as far as we know, at least commit to doing it the best you can. if your employee/co-star is getting death threats left and right because of a problem you let get this bad, you should try to protect him.
oliver got his 5 minutes in the sun, but after that shitshow, i don't see how things are gonna get better for him. buddies may have his back, but they are not significant enough to make the show or oliver's career. if we pretend every single one of oliver's 894k followers on instagram is a buddie, and we take the viewers of 8x03 (which was the most viewed episode this season with 5,5 million) that's not even 20% of viewers. the same goes for the 911 official account on instagram.
