Can someone explain to me why Gerry being happy and his badly dyed hair not being mentioned means he can’t be goth? I feel like there’s more depth to the reasons, I just keep seeing “he’s happy so he’s not goth”. I’m genuinely curious I want to hear the variety of reasons bc I personally LOVE happy goth characters.

A Soap Bubble Becomes a Laser

Using a soap bubble, researchers have created a laser that could act as a sensitive sensor for environmental parameters including atmospheric pressure. Made a foray into soaping today. Just Melt & Pour soap - I ain't ready to commit to cold processed soaping.

Mum wanted some small square soaps for her Christmas gifts for the ladies at her craft group and I had a melt and pour soaping kit I'd bought off facebook a few years ago from a Lady who was getting out of the hobby.

They're Lavender scented with dried Lavender flowers mixed in a Cocoa melt and pour base.

Adventures in Sampling

Right now I'm having fun with experimenting with different methods of ageing and distressing. Whilst it doesn't necessarily fall into this category I was interested in using bubble painting to create a mottled effect on fabric. I've been using this jacket as a canvas for these experiments. The previous experiment with seeds had to be called off last year but I'll be trying again this spring/summer.

To start off I tried using silk paints. This did not work at all and none of it showed up on the fabric.

I then swapped to black acrylic paint. This showed up on the fabric (remnants of a loose woven linen) but the colour bled into the fabric meaning all detail was lost.

I kind of liked the mottled effect towards the centre but the whole right side was wrong.

I tried using the paint on paper to make sure that my paint to water ratio was right.

This proved that the mix was fine, it was likely my fabric choices causing problems. I decided to use small pieces of the fabric the jacket is made of. I had very little of this remaining so I had to be careful with what I tried. I started off with the same method as the first attempts. The result was much better. The thicker fabric was less absorbent so there was almost no bleed and the bubbles were better defined.

I wasn't completly happy though, I wanted to see larger bubble outlines like the ones on the paper. Thinking through the differences between the fabric and paper, I realised that the paper was much stiffer than the fabric. To test this theory I interfaced my second piece of scuba suede before painting.

This result was so much better than the first with much more defined bubbles.

Just to confirm my theory about stiffness I interfaced a piece of the first fabric and tested it out.

Even though bleed was still a problem I prefer this much more than the first attempts.

Tommorow I'll be applying this to the jacket. The plan is to use an embroidery hoop for stiffness because the jacket has no interfacing.

soapdate: poured the water! I used a new brand of soap colorant that was WAY darker than I was used to, even after diluting it the color was stronger than I wanted. That's fine though, they still look ok. A little disappointed that the top surface had some weird textures instead of a smooth finish, but that's a question for another day.

bonus: used the leftover after diluting to test some metallic mica powder dye. Turned out cool as hell, probably cooler on this glycerin soap bc it's translucent. I'd like to get some matte colors soon.

Anyway usually I answer your questions on how to take care of piercings and treat infections but today I want to do something different. So recently I got a new client and that client is my boss!!! And you allowed me to do a piercing for him

Candy: ohhhhh couple ear piercings so we talking about an industrial or maybe we can do a rook *gasp* we can do a daith piercing!!

Neta: no, no filming is fine It brings in people plus I watch you all the time....... I just kind of want this conversation about my ear piercing to be a private thing.

Neta:..........*sigh* ok...... So it's very obvious that my ear is kind of........ jacked.......and .....it how do I say this...... it holds a lot of trauma and bad memories..... Sometimes I struggle to look at it .......when I had long tentacles I used to hide it but now I'm not able to do that anymore and I've been getting a lot of stairs at it and I feel....... ummm........*sigh*.........I just want it to be easier to deal with..... I don't want to look at it and automatically associate it with my past and want people to look at and focus more on the body modifications instead.......you know

On the Right we can do similar but instead of 3 piercings on the soft cartilage I'm going to stick with 2 and an industrial piercing! How does that sound Neta?

Neta: yeah...... that sounds great. Let's get to it
