crying laughing at the thought of buck inviting eddie to his dates with t because "he really needs to get out of the house" and t is like. fine with it he guesses. but at the end of the night t says pointedly "well, it's getting late. probably time to call it" and eddies just like "oh youre right bye t" and bucks like "bye t" and they leave together and t is just standing there like. wtf???

I know I've said it before, but I think this upcoming episode is going to be so interesting, even if we don't get Queer Eddie OR BT Bones (neither of which I'm fully convinced are going to happen on Thursday), & it's really for this one interesting phrase that Ryan & Oliver have both used.
They have both mentioned "rose-colored glasses" when it comes to Tommy & Shannon, and I would argue that they each have to reckon with these relationships before we can have any movement towards Buddie.
Eddie thinks that Shannon was the love of his life, that he failed her and has to carry that guilt with him for the rest of his life. I believe that Eddie placing Shannon on a pedestal is partially what's stopping him from realizing his queerness (along with the catholic guilt and repression, but a lot of that is also tied up in Shannon & their failed marriage.)
Buck's convinced that his big feelings last season were all about Tommy, and I'm not saying that some of them weren't, but I don't think it'd be too far of a stretch to say that he figures that he's in this relationship now and that obviously everything is fine now. He figured out this part of himself and he's dating a man and that means everything is Fine and he absolutely does not need to do any further digging or searching or learning, despite the fact that he and Tommy don't really seem to like each other all that much, nor do they seem to be all that compatible.
Buck has to reckon with the fact that realizing his bisexuality and immediately jumping into a relationship with a man that he wasn't even sure he wanted (his speech at the coffee date) might not be the solution to all the problems he's had, and Eddie has to deal with the fact that Shannon was not perfect, that what she did was not the same as what he did, that she's responsible for her own actions and that this romanticized vision he has clung to of their lives is not real and is not consistent with the actual relationship that they had.
There's a Divorce Arc this episode - which I'm begging does something with Eddie - and an uncomfortable truth learned about Tommy's past; it's not completely out of left field to assume that the Rose-Colored Glasses come off this episode.
And the fact that it's happening for them BOTH, at the same time? In the relationships that I think are the biggest obstacles to them realizing/accepting their feelings for each other???
I'm never fully convinced they're actually going to go there with these 2, but it will be SO interesting to see how this episode plays out, regardless.

Oh Oliver Oliver Oliver how I love thee!!
In flux you say
Dealing with changes you say
Velocity you say
A lot of possibility you say
So many most excellent things all in one answer!
Flux and change in the same sentence is so interesting and telling on several fronts (and not just Eddie’s moustache!). It’s very loudly saying bt bones sooner rather than later, but it’s also suggesting some things going down at the firehouse and maybe with Bobby (the working together during the plane emergency was very much giving me calm before a storm vibes) which I’m excited to see as I think it will be fabulous for Bucks development both personally and professionally. But it’s also giving me changes with Eddie vibes - and on a couple of fronts - the Christopher front, and the personal front.
The use of velocity is an interesting choice - when you think Bucks been stuck on that hamster wheel for so long and then got off one to land on another, the fact we’re now talking velocity is pretty interesting! It’s very much suggesting we’re going to get a huge amount of buck set up stuff in the next couple of episodes - on multiple fronts. So btw bones obviously, which I’m expecting to trigger some soul searching and figuring out - that his bisexual awakening has triggered buck knowing himself more than he ever has before but that Tommy has been holding him in stasis and as soon as he’s gone it will actually catapult him forward quite dramatically.
I mean velocity is giving me feelings for Eddie realisation vibes, but then, because I think in 806 Eddie is going to shave the stache off and then head off to Texas to try to fix things with Chris, things settling down for buck for a little bit makes a lot of sense to me. In combination with ‘a lot of possibility’ and the concept of ‘next step’ and Oliver being excited to see where ‘the story goes in the not to distant future’ it’s very much giving buck sort of pining era vibes. Eddie being physically gone (and working on his own stuff which I expect to take 2 episodes at most) giving buck some processing space would be great to watch - especially if we are shown them being in contact by phone and video chat etc. As the audience we’d get to see Buck actively knowingly in love whilst not being able to act on it - Oliver obviously wouldn’t know yet how that initial pining era is going to go from there because it would take us through to 808 - which is what they’re finishing up right now, so it’s all set up to be exciting because Eddie will then return and Chris will be back (he better or I will be protesting at the studio!) so focus will shift to that aspect for an episode or so, and we’ll have fully pining buck who’s also delighted Chris is back and that leads to a cliffhanger mid season on the will they won’t they front!
I can see it all so clearly and I’m very here for it please and thank you

I swear, one more post in the Buddie tag from a Bummy shipper pretending to be a multishipper, preaching love and peace and calling Buddie fans out on their "toxicity" and fucking homophobia while saying zilch about the hatred of the Tinker fandom, and I will commit acts of violence.
The hypocrisy of these people and the fact they are not able to see, how their posts are exactly what they are preaching against is mindboggling and infuriating.
I can deal with the delulu Trollbert lovers (block button, my beloved) but this type of posts just makes my blood boil.
Take a breath, take care of your own behaviour and let people enjoy and dislike things in peace.

The more we hear about bt bones, the less I’m convinced they’re going to bring up Tommy’s past. They literally could not put him in an emergency that his character was perfectly set up for, in what world would they turn around & give him his own storyline?
If they do go into his bigoted past, I don’t think they’re going to be able to just leave it as is, they’re going to have to resolve it in some way, which means Buck’s going to pull Hen & Chim in along with Tommy, and I really don’t see them giving Tommy an arc that has him interacting with other mains outside of Buck & his storyline (which always seems to involve Eddie. Which could mean nothing.)
I truly do feel that whatever “uncomfortable truths” is going to be about Buck, & I’m PRAYING that it’s him finally acknowledging the shit he’s been through & the way it’s made him into the man he is today & what he ACTUALLY wants.
Someone in the Discord said it best, uncomfortable truths aren’t always something bad. It could be about how big a part of Eddie & Chris’ life he is. It could be that Tommy doesn’t really fit in with the 118, & that could be a dealbreaker. It could be any number of things but I’m CONVINCED that whatever it is, it’s going to be about Buck.
Buck’s the main character, it’s HIS story we’re telling. Tommy’s already had his time in the Begins episodes, and they “wrapped that up” (even if it was an ending worthy of an antagonist side character & not a love interest, but they never planned on bringing him back in that capacity, so it is what it is, unfortunately).
I really do think the “mask” in Masks & the uncomfortable truths they're facing is something about Buck, a mask he’s wearing. As much as I’d love for them to acknowledge how shitty Tommy was in the beginning, I’m not convinced that’s going to be The Thing that breaks them up, & honestly?
I’m okay with that. Obviously, racism & sexism & bigotry in general should be called out, not swept under the rug for the story, but Gerrard isn’t even an out & out racist anymore, he’s just an asshole, and given how they've had Tommy attribute everything to the way that the 118 was "an oppressive place" under Gerrard's leadership, I don't think they're going to bring that back up now.
If they start leaning more into that part of Gerrard now that’s he’s taken Buck under his wing, I could see them reckoning with Tommy’s past actions, but with the storyline they have right now, I think it’s going to be about Buck, & his issues & his “baggage” (which I’m hoping to GOD is Eddie & Chris, but that might be the Buddie girl in me 😭) & what HE wants in life.
If Buck’s going to get off the hamster wheel, he’s going to have to make the choice to do it all by himself, & I hope that’s what Masks is about 🙏
