La imagen del estadio Saturnino Moure recorre el mundo. Un plano cenital de la cancha exime de mayores explicaciones. El riachuelo que divide ciudad y provincia de Buenos Aires hace una curva pronunciada que, extrañamente, no fue rectificada cuando en la década del 40 se modificó el curso del río Matanza. El resultado: un meandro, llamado Meandro de Brian, que por esas delicias catastrales está cruzando el riachuelo, pero pertenece a la ciudad de Buenos Aires: es la manzana número 104, sección catastral 26, y la dirección es Luna 2101. El meandro forma una pequeña península de 0,05 km2 de superficie. Está conectada a la capital del país por el puente ferroviario de la línea Belgrano Sur y rodeada por la villa 21 24 de Barracas. Para quienes viven en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires y no son habitués del estadio, lanzarse a la aventura de ver un partido de fútbol allí pide cruzar el puente Bosch e ingresar por el partido de Avellaneda, frente a la histórica Siam, barrio obrero si los hay, escenario de fábricas inmensas. Allí se emplaza la cancha de Victoriano Arenas. Las referencias sobre el nombre que dio origen a un club que dentro de seis años será centenario no son menos asombrosas. En la década del ‘20 del siglo pasado una inmobiliaria había tapizado de carteles aquella zona de incipientes loteos. Allí se leía: Victoriano Arenas Vende, tal el origen del nombre del histórico club de Valentín Alsina. ¿Más rarezas? En 1998, tras una agotadora instancia judicial, una mujer arbitró en este estadio un partido oficial del ascenso metropolitano de AFA por primera vez. Se trata de la recordada Florencia Romano. Victoriano Arenas le ganó seis a cero a Muñiz. Ya en el presente, la figura omnipresente del equipo de la península ─dirigente, entrenador, ex jugador, embajador en los medios─ es el inefable Luis Ventura, otrora ladero de Jorge Rial en el programa de televisión Intrusos y director de la revista Paparazzi. Sí, en Victoriano Arenas se puede hacer una película, incluso una serie. Sobra material, también es grande el riesgo de caer en la romantización de la decadencia, la mirada burlona, la pornomiseria. 
Deportivo Español cambió la península de sus orígenes transoceánicos por la del meandro de Brian. Fue a la mejor peor cancha del mundo después de haber resignado la punta en la fecha anterior. Se le imponía ganar en un terreno donde en esta temporada cayeron, entre otros, Sportivo Italiano y Argentino de Merlo. Salió a jugar sin su habitual volante central, Juan Fernández, suspendido por acumular amonestaciones. Entró Bolig en su reemplazo, un canterano con otras características, más férreo en la marca, incómodo para los creativos rivales. El escenario a priori le sentaría de perillas: en barrio de laburantes, el mediocampo de Español saldría a trabajar el partido. Con el correr de los minutos, Bolig demostraría que no solo puede ser opción de relevo sino que está para pelear un lugar en el equipo titular. El resto de la formación fue la misma que empató sin goles contra Claypole siete días antes. La visita tuvo control del juego durante casi todo el partido, algo que no había sucedido de manera tan marcada en ninguno de los encuentros previos. Tardó pocos minutos para dejar a Vivas en su habitual mano a mano contra el arquero rival; de nuevo el delantero lo despilfarró. Tuvo otra jugada muy clara cuando fue Alfenoni el que quedó de frente a Ramírez; cuesta explicar por qué quiso romper el arco en vez de elegir el mejor lugar para colocar la pelota, la mandó al riachuelo. El entretiempo encontró a los jugadores con expresiones contrariadas en sus rostros. Habían hecho mérito para irse en ventaja y ellos mismos habían fallado. En suelo irregular como el del Saturnino Moure no había más margen para equivocarse en la definición. 
Cuatro minutos del segundo tiempo. Ramírez, en su tercera intervención del complemento, manda al córner un remate de Costantino. El centro lo ejecuta Vocos al primer palo y Vivas se anticipa a sus defensores peinando el balón hacia atrás. La pelota pica en el borde del área chica y Santagati va hacia ella. Vivas ya tuvo tiempo de darse vuelta y ahora abre los brazos: ve lo evidente, que el defensor españolista tiene todo a su favor para hacer el gol. Ramírez no sale, los defensores de Victoriano Arenas miran, el lateral derecho Matías Gómez ya perdió la marca de Santagati, que se lanza a cabecear casi de palomita. La pelota se eleva y entra lejos de la mano izquierda del arquero local. Español se ponía en ventaja cuando merecía estar haciendo el segundo gol. 
A partir de ahí, el equipo visitante se paró de contraataque. Resignó protagonismo y retrocedió quince metros sin que el rival hiciera tanto como para motivar esa cautela. Por eso terminó sufriendo el cabezazo de Alan Sánchez tras un lateral en el segundo minuto de adición, que cruzó por delante de la valla de un inseguro Lescano y que por poco ─muy poco─ le hace dejar dos puntos en península ajena. Hubiera sido una injusticia, pero ¿en qué jurisdicción iba a presentar el reclamo?

Por Luján, Belgrano rescató una victoria frente a Sportivo
En una lluviosa jornada en Córdoba, Belgrano derrotó 3 a 2 a Sportivo Belgrano de San Francisco en un cotejo amistoso de pretemporada. El duelo se iba a desarrollar en el Gigante de Alberdi, pero como consecuencia de las inclemencias climáticas, se decidió trasladarlo al predio Armando Pérez.
El Pirata buscó tomar el protagonismo y con la clara intención de dañar por las bandas en la primera parte. Sobre los 15 minutos, un remate desde fuera del área de Sequeira se fue muy cerquita del poste izquierdo de la visita.
A los 25, Costantino tuvo una clara ingresando solo por el centro del área, pero su definición se encontró con la gran reacción de Quinteros.
Pero el delantero de Belgrano tuvo su revancha. A los 31, Sequeira desbordó por la derecha y lanzó un centro que Estigarribia no alcanzó a cabecear, pero Costantino se encontró de frente con la pelota y esta vez no la desaprovechó. 1-0 para el Celeste.
En la segunda parte, otra vez el Pirata utilizó la vía aérea para sumar en el tanteador. Estigarribia asistió a Gervasio Núñez, quien de cabeza marcó el 2 a 0 cuando iban tres minutos.
Caruso dispuso varios cambios promediando la etapa, con los regresos de Nahuel Luján y Cristian Techera. También ingresó Zapelli, para darle más desequilibrio al equipo en los útimos metros.
Con el partido un poco desvirtuado por las modificaciones, Argüello aprovechó la modorra para meterse en el área del local y ser barrido por Novillo. Cristian Campozano se hizo cargo del penal, pateó a la derecha de Losada, quien se arrojó a su izquierda.
Siguió con envión el Verde del este y tras un desborde de Urquiza, el ex Talleres Román Estrada volvió a vencer al arquero del Pirata. Poco pudo aguantarlo el visitante, ya que un buen desborde de Techera encontró en el centro atrás a Luján, que remató y marcó nuevamente la ventaja.

Vedi anche Tutto quello che c'è da sapere sul solstizio invernaleRenne per tutti Tutti i bambini lo sanno:  Babbo Natale viene dal Polo Nord, è barbuto e sovrappeso e la notte tra il 24 e il 25 dicembre porta i regali ai piccoli di tutto il mondo viaggiando su una slitta trainata da renne. Ma la storia di questo amato personaggio del folklore è lunga e affascinante quasi come la sua leggenda. Babbo Natale nasce sulle rive del Mediterraneo, si evolve nell’Europa del Nord e assume la sua forma definitiva (Santa Claus) nel Nuovo Mondo, da dove poi si ridiffonde quasi in ogni parte del globo. In principio era san Nicola, un greco nato intorno al 280 d.C. che divenne vescovo di Mira, cittadina romana del sud dell’Asia Minore, l’attuale Turchia. Nicola si guadagnò la reputazione di fiero difensore della fede cristiana in anni di persecuzioni e trascorse molti anni in prigione finché, nel 313, Costantino emanò l’Editto di Milano che autorizzava il culto. L’iconografia ha tramandato diverse sue immagini, ma nessuna somiglia troppo all’omone allegro, sovrappeso e dalla barba bianca che oggi attribuiamo a Babbo Natale. Catherine Wilkinson, un’antropologa  forense della University of Manchester, ha cercato di ricostruirne il vero aspetto basandosi sui resti umani conservati  nella cripta della Basilica di san Nicola di Bari, dove le presunte reliquie del santo furono portate nel 1087 da un gruppo di marinai e sacerdoti baresi che era andato fino a Myra per impadronirsene. Quando, negli anni Cinquanta del secolo scorso, la cripta fu restaurata, il cranio e le ossa del santo furono accuratamente misurate, fotografate e radiografate. Wilkinson ha esaminato questi dati alla luce delle moderne tecniche dell’antropologia forense, aiutandosi con un software di ricostruzione facciale e aggiungendo dettagli dedotti dalle fattezze delle popolazioni mediterranee dell’epoca. Il risultato – un uomo anziano, dalla pelle olivastra, il naso rotto forse nel corso delle persecuzioni, e barba e capelli grigi – è stato illustrato nel documentario della BBC The Real Face of Santa. Il protettore dei bambini Dopo la morte (avvenuta il 6 di dicembre di un anno imprecisato alla metà del IV secolo), la figura del santo divenne popolarissima in tutta la cristianità, grazie anche ai tanti miracoli che gli furono attribuiti. Molte professioni (ad esempio i marinai), città e intere nazioni lo adottarono e ancora lo venerano come loro patrono. Ma perché diventò anche protettore dei bambini e mitico dispensatore di doni? La ragione, spiega Gerry Bowler, storico e autore del libro Santa Claus: A Biography, sta soprattutto in due leggende che si diffusero in Europa intorno al 1200. La prima, e più nota, racconta del giovane vescovo Nicola che salva tre ragazze dalla prostituzione facendo recapitare in segreto tre sacchi d’oro al padre, che così può salvarsi dai debiti e fornire una dote alle figlie. Nella seconda, Nicola entra in una locanda il cui proprietario ha ucciso tre ragazzi, li ha fatti a pezzi e li ha messi sotto sale, servendone la carne agli ignari avventori. Nicola non si limita a scoprire il delitto, ma resuscita anche le vittime: “ecco uno dei motivi che lo resero patrono dei bambini”, commenta Bowler. Da san Nicola a Santa Claus Resta da spiegare come questo santo mediterraneo si sia spostato al Polo Nord e sia stato associato al Natale. In realtà per molti secoli il culto di san Nicola – e la tradizione di fare regali ai bambini - si continuò a celebrare il 6 dicembre, come avviene tuttora in diverse zone dell’Italia del Nord e dell'arco alpino, fino in Germania. Col tempo al santo vennero attribuite alcune caratteristiche tipiche di divinità pagane preesistenti, come il romano Saturno o il nordico Odino, anch’essi spesso rappresentati come vecchi dalla barba bianca in grado di volare. San Nicola era anche incaricato di sorvegliare i bambini perché facessero i buoni e dicessero le preghiere. Ma la Riforma protestante, a partire dal Cinquecento, abolì il culto dei santi in gran parte dell’Europa del Nord. “Era un bel problema”, commenta Bowler. “A chi far portare i doni ai bambini?”. In molti casi, risponde lo studioso, il compito fu attribuito a Gesù Bambino, e la data spostata dal 6 dicembre a Natale. “Ma il piccolo Gesù non sembra in grado di portare troppi regali, e soprattutto non può minacciare i bambini cattivi. Così gli fu spesso affiancato un aiutante più forzuto, in grado anche di mettere paura”. Nacquero così nel mondo germanico alcune figure a metà tra il folletto e il demone. Alcune, come i Krampus, servono da aiutanti dello stesso san Nicola; in altre il ricordo del santo sopravvive nel nome, come Ru-klaus (Nicola il Rozzo), Aschenklas (Nicola di cenere) o Pelznickel (Nicola il Peloso). Erano loro a garantire che i bambini facessero i buoni, minacciando punizioni come frustate o rapimenti. Per quanto possa sembrare strano, anche da questi personaggi nasce la figura dell’allegro vecchietto in slitta. San Nicola in America Gli immigrati nordeuropei portarono con sé queste leggende quando fondarono le prime colonie nel Nuovo Mondo. Quelli olandesi, rimasti affezionati a san Nicola, diffusero il suo nome, "Sinterklaas" Ma nell’America delle origini il Natale era molto diverso da come lo consideriamo oggi. Nel puritano New England era del tutto snobbato, mentre altrove era diventato una specie di festa pagana dedicata soprattutto al massiccio consumo di alcol. “Era così anche in Inghilterra”, spiega Bowler. “E non c’era nessun magico dispensatore di doni”. Poi, nei primi decenni dell’Ottocento, diversi poeti e scrittori cominciarono a impegnarsi per trasformare il Natale in una festa di famiglia, recuperando anche la leggenda di san Nicola. Già in un libro del 1809, Washington Irving immaginò un Nicola che passava sui tetti con il suo carro volante portando regali ai bambini buoni; poi fu la volta di un libretto anonimo in versi, The Children’s Friend, con la prima vera apparizione di Santa Claus, associato al Natale “ma privato di qualsiasi caratteristica religiosa, e vestito nelle pellicce tipiche dei buffi portatori di doni germanici”, spiega Bowler. Questo Santa porta doni ma infligge anche punizioni ai bambini cattivi, e il suo carro è trainato da una sola renna. Le renne diventano otto e il carro diventa una slitta nella poesia A Visit From St. Nicholas, scritta nel 1822 da Clement Clark Moore per i suoi figli ma diventata subito “virale”. Per molti decenni Santa Claus viene rappresentato con varie fattezze e con vestiti di varie forme e colori. Solo verso la fine del secolo, grazie soprattutto alle illustrazioni di Thomas Nast, grande disegnatore e vignettista politico, si impone la versione “standard": un adulto corpulento, vestito di rosso con i bordi di pelliccia bianca, che parte dal Polo Nord con la sua slitta trainata da renne e sta attento a come si comportano i bambini. Ritorno in Europa Una volta standardizzata (grazie anche alle pubblicità della Coca-Cola, nota del trad. it) la figura di Santa Claus torna in Europa in una sorta di migrazione inversa, adottando nomi come Père Noel, Father Christmas o Babbo Natale e sostituendo un po’ ovunque i vecchi portatori di doni. A diffonderla sono anche i soldati americani sbarcati durante la Seconda mondiale, e l’allegro grassone finisce per simboleggiare la generosità degli USA nella ricostruzione dell’Europa occidentale. Naturalmente, c'è anche chi nel Babbo Natale di origine yankee vede nient'altro che il simbolo della deriva consumista del Natale. Altri lo rifiutano o lo snobbano semplicemente in nome della tradizione, come i non pochi italiani ancora affezionati a santa Lucia, alla Befana o al vecchio, originale san Nicola.

«In un certo periodo della mia vita sono stato cristiano» scrive Emmanuel Carrère nella quarta di copertina dell'edizione francese del Regno. «Lo sono stato per tre anni. Non lo sono più». Due decenni dopo, tuttavia, prova il bisogno di «tornarci su», di ripercorrere i sentieri del Nuovo Testamento: non da credente, questa volta, bensì «da investigatore». Senza mai dimenticarsi di essere prima di tutto un romanziere. Così, conducendo la sua inchiesta su «quella piccola setta ebraica che sarebbe diventata il cristianesimo», Carrère fa rivivere davanti ai nostri occhi gli uomini e gli eventi del I secolo dopo Cristo quasi fossero a noi contemporanei: in primo luogo l'ebreo Saulo, persecutore dei cristiani, e il medico macedone Luca (quelli che oggi conosciamo come l'apostolo Paolo e l'evangelista Luca); ma anche il giovane Timoteo, Filippo di Cesarea, Giacomo, Pietro, Nerone e il suo precettore Seneca, lo storico Flavio Giuseppe e l'imperatore Costantino – e l'incendio di Roma, la guerra giudaica, la persecuzione dei cristiani; riuscendo a trasformare tutto ciò, è stato scritto, «in un'avventura erudita ed esaltante, un’avventura screziata di autoderisione e di un sense of humour che per certi versi ricorda Brian di Nazareth dei Monty Python». Al tempo stesso, come già in Limonov, Carrère ci racconta di sé, e di sua moglie, della sua madrina, di uno psicoanalista sagace, del suo amico buddhista, di una baby-sitter squinternata, di un video porno trovato in rete, di Philip K. After Two Decades, The Obsessed Rally A Stunning Comeback

Wet fur bears the smell of death...   
So begins the unimpeachable new record by THE OBSESSED, featuring living legend Scott "Wino" Weinrich (guitars/vox), Dave Sherman (bass), and Brian Costantino (drums).   It's both an unlikely return and a triumphant one, their first LP in over 20 years.   Beginning life as Warhorse in 1976, the Maryland trio dropped a series of demos in '80 and '85 under a new moniker: The Obsessed.   Not until 1990 did they issue their self-titled debut.   A second full-length followed just a year later, the much celebrated Lunar Womb.   The prolific stream of songwriting culminated in The Church Within in '94.   Then...radio silence.   A split and a pair of live albums put The Obsessed back in the public eye again in the new millennium, however briefly, but they went back underground as quickly as they'd emerged.   No one could have anticipated a resurgence this big, and 2017 continues to bear its surprises.

'Sacred' (2017 - Relapse Records) proves yet again that Wino is one of the great singer-songwriters of our time.   Though tragically unknown to the public at large, Wino has earned great esteem in metal circles.   Since the reactivation of Saint Vitus in 2008, a whole new generation of Born Too Late fanatics were born, drawn to the uncompromising, confessional nature of Wino's lyrics, which capture so perfectly the struggle with addiction, rejection, and despair.   In that same vein, Sacred encompasses vignettes of love, loss, and the life of a man "living true, living free" in a moonstruck world.
Wino's story is not unlike another well-known Maryland doomer: Bobby Liebling of Pentagram.   Both active since the seventies, Bobby and Wino were playing downtuned, riff-heavy metal before anyone knew what to call this emerging subgenre.   Both lived the wildest lives imaginable, their early success hampered by excess and addiction.   The Obsessed and Pentagram became the soundtrack for a generation of free-spirited bikers, misfits, and rebels who swore allegiance to the open road and the United States of Doom.

"Sodden Jackal" wastes no time throwing us right into the deep end of the Lake of Fire.   A slow-burning chug ushers us into "a scene of evil unbelieved."   What's amazing is this song travels all the way back to the band's first ever recording.   'The Obsessed' (1983), predating the band's first LP by seven years, is a three-song EP which is now a coveted collector's item.   "Sodden Jackal" is its B-side.
As for Wino, in between the release of that 7" and the 12" eponymous, he was steadily building his rep in the emerging doom underground as successor to Scott Reagers of Saint Vitus.   I'm sure the rest of the Wino story, including his many bands and accomplished solo career, are well known to our readers.   If not, man do you have some treasures awaiting your discovery, so commence to digging!

The heavy stomp of the first track transitions now to a song of equal heft, but with a considerably faster tempo: "Punk Crusher.   I'm reminded of a story from that sling of dates Saint Vitus played with Black Flag in 1984/85.   Wino & co. would open each show, much to the bewilderment of Mohawks across the concert hall.   Simply put, slow 'n' low was not a popular sound (far more underground then than now).   In an interview with Westword, Vitus axeman Dave Chandler recalls, "Pretty much ninety percent of them hated us with a passion...throwing whatever wasn't nailed down and generally fucking with us."   The guys proved equal to the challenge, however, demonstrating that punk attitude was as much at home with leaden metal riffs as it is was with the fast-talking swagger of Henry Rollins.

The album's namesake track is a real head banger.   This song could be classed seventies hard rock, but the way Wino belts out those riffs and sings with his trademark menace, it can't help but feel like heavy metal.   Those scorching guitar leads are a real standout here.   Wino's technique has matured like aged whisky, giving us plenty of kick and a ton of attitude.   The Obsessed is always about attitude!

The fourth song is classic Obsessed, a track that might even be outlaw country were it played differently.   But Weinrich, Raley, and Constantino aren't planning on leaving their bad ass biker roots anytime soon.
Perseverance of Futility
You’d best back off Don’t tread on me!

"Perseverance" keeps the record's vibe rockin' steady.   Album after album, The Obsessed draw from a seemingly bottomless well of riffage that always manages to sound fresh, and occasionally surprises us.   Oh, and are those keys I'm hearing behind this haunted atmosphere?   Nice touch!

We're now at the half-way mark and this next one is especially interesting -- a killer cover of the Thin Lizzy song, "It's Only Money."   Thin Lizzy was one of baddest bands of funky town back in the '70s, though for me marred by the pursuit of commercial success.   I never thought of this before, but when Thin Lizzy was at their heaviest they had similar attitude to The Obsessed.   The difference was The Obsessed took that 'tude by the horns and never let go.   This remake proves just how heavy a rock and roll song can be.   Truly one of the highlights of Sacred.
Cold Blood
The day will come And time will tell Was this livin’ Or just a magical spell?
Sacred by The Obsessed
"Cold Blood" is vintage Obsessed, with some unbelievably catchy leads and hooks reminiscent of the beloved riffs of 'Lunar Womb' (1991).   Twenty-seven years later, The Obsessed have taken their bread and butter and slathered it with hot sauce, giving their trademark sound an exciting twist.   Interestingly, though the track comes with lyrics, it's played entirely without them.   This actually works, as it gives Sacred a sense of balance.   Hey, a good instrumental in the middle of an album always works for me.

Sacred by The Obsessed
An acoustic intro opens the eighth song, developing into a ballad-like theme with a chorus that's very easy on the ears.   Dare I say it has a radio-friendly feel to it?   This could be a good track to introduce The Obsessed to newcomers.   Popular appeal aside, "Stranger Things" ultimately stays true to the dark intensity of an Obsessed song.   Once again, Wino's guitar work is phenomenal.
Razor Wire
Ain’t no wrath Like a mad man that’s been burned

By now, I trust you've gotten to know the album's first single, which has been doing the rounds for a few months.   This, and the song that follows, feature some of the most intimate lyrics of the record. "Razor Wire" appears to be about the heartbreak of a love affair, perhaps hinting at one of Wino's own relationships. It started with a wistful feeling of love, hope, and trust, but the illusion faded as betrayal is revealed. The singer feels like he's trapped in a cage of razor wire, but he's pissed and he's about to tear right out of that rusty cage.

As with his solo work and the recent collaborations with Conny Ochs, Wino bares his heart, giving us a rare window into his family life and the sacred bond between father and child.   Music-wise, this one is in the slowed-down, traditional doom style that I fell in love with some 30 years ago.   Wino is in top form, vocally.   Best of all, I got to play a bit of air guitar to that awesome picking!   Hey, I couldn't resist.
Be The Night
I know it’s been a long, dark life The sun will rise for you again

This track brings back memories of hanging out well into twilight, partying with friends, living "the life."   It triggers recollections of seeing The Obsessed in their prime, playing late into the night at some biker bar in the deep woods of Western Maryland.   This song is about the struggle between the proverbial devil on one shoulder, the angel on the other.   Who will win out?   "I'm gonna kill that man someday," Wino seethes.   Does this refer to someone he has a vendetta against or a dark manifestation of his own self?   You decide.
On So Long
Sacred (Deluxe Version) by The Obsessed
After an interlude, we arrive at a pair of bonus tracks that you'll find on the limited edition double vinyl.   "On So Long" bridges the late seventies and early eighties, reflecting the evolving face of doom.   The riffs in this one will pierce you right through the heart -- a prime example of why Wino is a living legend.   His singing is replete with emotion, contrasted with searing, short bursts of guitar.   It is this introspection that makes Sacred so special and confirms The Obsessed's place as one of my all-time favorite bands.   Regardless of who he's playing with, Wino has always been willing to give us a window into his soul.   This "realness" is one of the prime reasons he appeals to listeners.   I certainly identified with it when I was living the fast life.   Ultimately, I had to walk away to save my hide from jail, or worse.   This doesn't mean I enjoy The Obsessed any less.   Quite to the contrary, I find myself appreciating it now more than ever.
Crossroader Blues
Sacred (Deluxe Version) by The Obsessed
The last song, appropriately, pays tribute to the outlaw life.   Over the course of the album, the band has flexed the stylistic range, from stoner rock to heavy metal to plodding doom and now the blues.   The Obsessed have a full palette of color at their command here.
In the end, The Obsessed's return has not disappointed.   If you're as big a fan as I am, you've likely listened to the album dozens of times already.   Sacred is a triumph, the embodiment of the words Wino sang three decades ago: "Like life's living, make it sweet."

THE LOVE STORY
Daniela & Brian’s relationship began in April 2012, when he messaged her, and she thought he was hilarious. They texted back and forth for weeks before finally meeting. They found they had a lot in common, but the craziest part was that they had grown up just a few blocks away from each other. Together Daniela & Brian enjoy being parents to their Great Dane, Hodor, going to the dog beach, lounging around and watching “Game of Thrones,” taking long drives, exploring new places, and calling each other “PooPoo.” But, unfortunately, these two love birds could not remember the first time they said they loved each other 🙁
On December 19, 2015, Daniela was throwing Brian a 30th birthday party with all their friends. Brian had been dropping some weird hints all day that made Daniela feel like he was going to propose. She didn’t want to be disappointed so she kept an open mind…BUT then around 10 pm that night, Brian gathered everyone into the living room and asked for a pillow. He put the pillow on the floor, plopped down on one knee, and popped the question!!!!

  THE GAME OF THRONES WEDDING CEREMONY
Daniela & Brian’s ceremony took place inside the castle. As the guests were being seated, I played selections from the Vitamin String Quartet. As the wedding party entered, I played Costantino Carrara’s cover of Coldplay’s “Magic.” For Daniela’s entrance, I played Costantino Carrara’s cover of John Legend’s “All of Me.” After Daniela & Brian chuckled through their ceremony and finally kissed, I played Capital Cities’ “Safe & Sound” as they exited.

  THIS GAME OF THRONES WEDDING RECEPTION
The dinner took place on Mt. Woodson Castle’s lower lawn. After the Grand Entrance (to the “Game of Thrones” theme, of course), the First Dance, and a 3-way Combo Parent Dance, we all enjoyed some delicious morsels then heard EIGHT (yes, 8) toasts 🙂 The bride and groom then invited everyone to join them back up in the castle for cake cutting and dancing.

On January 24, AABANY co-sponsored with the Chinese Business Lawyers Association (CBLA), Fordham Law School and Consilio a CLE program on Discovery and Investigations in China in the Costantino Room at Fordham Law School.
The CLE was presented in two parts. First was a panel on Discovery Issues in Chinese Litigations, moderated by Geoffrey Sant, Partner, Dorsey & Whitney. The panel included Hon. Andrew Peck, United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of New York; Kim Nemirow, Ropes & Gray; Kiran Raj, formerly from Department of Homeland Security; and Jamie Underwood, Alston & Bird.
The second panel was on Internal Investigations and Abiding by Local Laws and Regulations, moderated by Prof. Joel Reidenberg of Fordham Law School. The panel included Dan Whitaker, Consilio; Brian Chebli, JPMC; William McGovern, Kobre & Kim; Patience Bin, Mayer Brown; and Therese Craparo, Reed Smith.
A reception, underwritten by Consilio, followed the CLE program.
More than 100 attendees braved the stormy and rainy weather to take part in the progarm. Each panel was good for 1.0 CLE credits in Areas of Professional Practice so those who went to both earned 2.0 CLE credits total.
Thanks to everyone who came. We look forward to future collaborations with CBLA, Fordham Law School and Consilio.
