A few weeks ago I discovered a thing called "stick weaving", where instead of a warped loom you weave the weft through sticks. The warp threads are looped through the bottom of each stick, and you pull them through your woven weft as you go. As I've been moving around a lot lately and don't have space for an actual loom, portable hand-held methods like this are a lot of fun!
Of course, having never done this before, I decided to pair it with kilim-technique pattern weaving, where you wrap the weft threads around the warp, leaving a gap where the different colours meet and creating sharp geometric patterns (which I've also never tried to do before lol). It looks absolutely baller with a high contrast dark base and bright colours, and of course the red-blue-yellow combo is always a winner XD

I ran out of the red before I ran out of warp and switched to purple, but at this point I'm just using this piece for pattern experiments. I've already ordered a medium weight yarn instead of the fingering-weight jumper yarn, which should compress less once off the sticks, and have ideas of doing several long repeating "panels" that can be sewn together at the selvedge to make something bigger.
The best part, it tucks into a bag and needs no other tools besides a tapestry needle and something to cut the yarn!

im so sorry this is more abt getting this out of my system than abt actually addressing anyone in particular but i would really really love to see the popularity of YA for people over the age of 18 die down a little and im being almost entirely selfish about this.
im reading war and peace rn and i need other people to back me up so i sound like less of a fucking nerd when i say 'oh yeah im reading war and peace.' also i want more people to talk abt war and peace with. and other books. and you know why?
because a) i was raised to be just a huge goddamn nerd (my parent's fault, you try being educated almost exclusively by a lawyer and a music teacher and being normal) and b) my local savers keeps having nice editions of the most random books for cheap as hell. its not my fault they had The Decameron for $2.79 on a day when i had a couple hours to kill so i could start it. its not my fault ive read the decameron. please read the decameron so that i have people to talk about it with. it's relevant to your issues i promise, the framing device is a group of friends retreating to a country house because of a pandemic. sorry ig this post is about the decameron now

I ordered stuff from Target.
Target has to compete with Amazon, but I don't know how it makes money with the effort to gather items, pack them and ship a box to my house in one day with no extra charges.
For years I ordered mesh polo shirts from Lands' End or LL Bean. This one from Target was $12 versus Bean's polo at $39.99. The mint colored shirt feels like it has slightly thinner fabric, but does not feel cheap. Knowing I saved $28 makes it feel luxurious. I'll order more of them from Target.
When ordering I peruse the web site and add things I didn't originally have in mind. When the big cardboard box arrives, opening it is tantamount to digging into a Christmas stocking.
Shout wipes might be useful for traveling or those occasions I go downtown to the office. Of course I included pizza flavored Goldfish crackers. A multi pack of tissues I ordered saves me the arduous task of carrying them to my car in Target's parking lot.
Post-Its are useful. Buying them reminds me of r/AskReddit questions. What is something Bob in 2004 would not have imagined doing twenty years later? That would be BUYING sticky notes instead of stealing them from the office. There's no office supply cabinet these days.
My son and daughter-in-law and their two dogs are staying here this weekend. Jack is playing in a softball tournament that's closer to my house than his. He's on a team with my brother-in-law and his high school friends.
Pictured here is Lily on top of the couch. She likes to rest at high points in the living room.

I went to one of Jack's games today but didn't stay for later ones. He and Ali went out for pizza with the team when the games were done. They're bringing me leftover pizza (free food!) so I'll take them out to the brewery tonight.

i still think one of the funnier things thats ever happened to me was on my like. fourth date with this girl i dated for a while i was like "oh just so you know my therapist and psychiatrist both think im autistic just in case that causes any communication issues" and she went "oh i could tell from when we first started talking. it's weird thought because you have more male presenting autism" and i went "...what do you... mean by that?" and she went "oh you dont mask at all"

A selection of photos and video clips from my recent visit to Blists Hill Victorian Town for their Heavy Horse Weekend, which saw a selection of wagons pulled by magnificent shire horses traversing the site, in addition to a horse bus giving rides to visitors, a wagon tyring demonstration, and opportunities to pet and guid the shire horses.
See the full footage compilation on YouTube.

Seven Island Brewery + Mason Ale Works Gemini Space Invader DDH Double IPA (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. Smells of mostly orange citrus with a touch of tropical fruit, too. The body is quite hazy and chewy with more heft to it than I was expecting. Nicely balanced and quite tasty.

Excerpt:
Beer archaeologists are peering back millennia to recreate brews from ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome using ancient methods and ingredients.
Some of the most interesting beers made in recent years provide a drinkable window into human history. These so-called "rebrews" of age-old ales were once savoured in places ranging from Ancient Egypt and Greece to Celtic and Viking Europe. Their drinkers liked a choice too, with 5,000-year-old Babylonian-carved stone tablets depicting recipes for nearly 20 different barley-based beers.
"Recreating ancient beers allows us to touch and taste history. It humanises our ancestors and makes us realise that we are not so different," says Travis Rupp, who combines teaching Classics and Anthropology at the University of Colorado with his past professional brewing experience at the Boulder-based producer Avery Brewing. It's a combination of skills that led him to create a line of archaic rebrews earning him the tag of The Beer Archaeologist, which is now the name of his business. /endquote
