I finally watched breaking bad (all within the past week or so while I worked, finished it and watched el camino last night) and I'm confident this isn't a new thought I'm expressing or anything but genuinely how DID an entire generation of dudes convince themselves Walter White was cool and admirable and intended to be sympathetic. I know ppl just lack media literacy sometimes but I'm still so confused

I don't think I've EVER watched a piece of media that so blatantly depicts a guy making the worst possible decisions at every turn and having his life ruined for it and not being redeemed or made sympathetic in any significant or lasting way. the kinds of justifications villains USUALLY give that make people consider them "morally grey" or "tragic" or whatever (everything I did was for my loved ones, I did what I had to to survive, once I was in this I couldn't get out, I just needed you to trust me so I could keep you safe, etc etc) is ALWAYS framed as complete self-serving bullshit when Walt says it, and one of the only shreds of personal growth he ever exhibits in the whole series is when he finally fucking admits that. every time he does something even remotely cool or drops a quotable one-liner, something terrible immediately happens that makes everything worse and makes him look like an unreasonable idiot asshole again. by the end of the series the ONLY characters they can still contrast as being morally "worse" than him are literally a bunch of bloodthirsty neonazis who kept a guy in a cage for several months. this show is practically SCREAMING at you the entire time not to admire Walt. why did every dude I knew in highschool have his face on tshirts and Facebook pfps.

I just don't get it. at least with The Dark Knight's Joker it was like, a feature-length movie and that's it. you spend a lot less time with the Joker and it has a lot less time to delve into his motivations, so there's way more room for flanderization and misinterpretation as people extrapolate the few cool/interesting/sad things they saw into a whole nuanced misunderstood guy in their heads and online. Walter White has 5 seasons' worth of 45min episodes to convince you beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is a miserable fucking loser who ruins everything he touches because of greed and selfishness. if you weren't watching it for that, what WERE you getting out of this. what DID you think this show was about. am I just missing some key piece of context from 2012 or whatever that would help me understand this

No one really plans to take naps. They simply happen.

When you woke up that day, a nap wasn't anywhere on your agenda. You’d stretched, yawned, and promised yourself you’d be productive — help in the camp kitchens, spar with some of the Ares kids, maybe even avoid getting soaked by Percy at least once today. But then the strawberry fields called your name, as they often did. You wandered there on instinct, the sunlight lazily warming your skin, the breeze brushing against your face like an old friend. Nymphs hummed to themselves somewhere in the distance, and if that wasn’t the perfect recipe for drowsiness, what was?

You didn’t even remember deciding to head back to Cabin Three. It’s like your body already knew where you were going — drawn in by the cool shade and the smell of sea salt lingering in the air. And yeah, maybe you knew it was Percy’s bed. But it wasn’t like he was using it, and the way the sheets practically smelled like summer tides and him? Well, you were a goner.

The gentle crash of waves outside the cabin lulled you under, the faint scent of seawater and laundry soap comforting enough to ease your eyelids shut. Your body, still warm from the walk, pressed into the cool mattress, and for a moment, everything felt right. Like the whole camp, the whole world, could just pause and let you breathe.

And apparently, you weren’t the only one who thought so.

You weren’t sure how much time had passed when the shift of the bed startled you awake — just a little. The mattress dipped under Percy’s weight, and you blinked, still stuck somewhere between a dream and the present. You cracked one eye open in time to see him flop face-first next to you, half-damp from the lake and looking as exhausted as you felt.

“You’re in my spot,” he mumbled, though he didn’t make a single move to kick you out.

You thought about apologizing. You really did. But then he sighed — deep and content — and somehow, his arms found their way around you like this was the most natural thing in the world.

“Move over,” he grumbled softly, but instead of actually moving you, he just pulled you closer.

Oh. You were screwed.

You tried to ignore how solid he felt, how warm. The cool of the cabin had long since kissed away the heat of your skin, but Percy? Percy radiated it like a furnace, especially when his hands slid under the hem of your shirt, resting there absentmindedly against your waist.

“You’re like a human heater,” you muttered, more to yourself than him.

“Mmm,” was all he managed in reply, already drifting off.

And you should’ve fought it, really. You should’ve said something like, Hey, Seaweed Brain, maybe I should go back to my cabin. But with his thumb absentmindedly tracing circles against your skin, the sound of waves outside, and Percy’s breathing next to your ear, you were hopeless.

Two demigods lulled into the embrace of slumber — the world outside could’ve crumbled, and you wouldn’t have noticed.

But you were still awake enough to catch the faintest smile on Percy’s lips when you whispered, “You know, you’re kind of clingy.”

“You love it,” he murmured back, half-asleep.

And unfortunately? You really did.

Through a series of miscommunication, the League is now under the impression that Batman, strange cryptid that he is, may or may not have given birth to the other vigilantes running around in Gotham. This was not helped by Bruce referring to all of his children, no matter how big they get, as his babies. Nor was it helped by Red Robin, in the middle of a narcolepsy-fueled imminent crash, mentioned how he had no mother. 

It also doesn’t help that no one is aware that they are in fact completely normal people, and not aspects of Gotham itself brought to life. Though really that’s on the bats themselves, because at this point they should at least count as undead.

When browsing through the wares of a newly opened magic shop you passed by an item that caught your interest, a massive mirror

You peaked inside expecting to see yourself, but instead you saw, a girl? About your height, quite pretty, good taste in fashion… Maybe your mom when she was younger?

It feels weird, in a good way, to see this girl follow all your movements, you couldn’t help but smile, and her smile is radiant

You felt an odd sense of relief… until you looked down to see that, you’re you, of course you are

Why do you feel so sad?

…

“Quite the item isn’t it?”, the Witch tending the shop noticed your interest and started talking to you “a magic mirror that shows you what you’d look like if you were born the opposite sex”

You stare into it

Why do you feel this deep dread?

“But that’s not all it does!” The witch continues “want to see a magic trick?” The witch asks laying a hand on your back

You’re curious to see where this is going, so you nod your head

In one swoop the witch pushes you against the mirror and as you brace yourself to slam into it, stumbling on your feet across the floor, you find yourself slamming into the witch face first

She laughs “I probably didn’t need to push that hard”

As you lay on the ground you feel different, you look as you prepare to push yourself up from the ground you notice your hands… are they smaller?

As you get it up and oriented yourself you glance at the mirror, still the same showing girl you, but how did you get turned around did… did you get

“Sorry” the witch says as her laughter days down “that’s the first time I’ve pushed someone through a mirror, should’ve seen that coming”

You look down and see the dress you’re wearing

“Now cutie” the witch claps her hands, and jumps up! She has a grin you don’t trust “I hoped you enjoyed the trick! If you ever want to become a guy again And I hope you have some savings! Gender-bending magic is quite expensive!”

You stumble back, you can’t turn back? The mirror is showing yo- Girl You, not the real Guy You, so… that’s a no go? You’re way to poor for anything

“But don’t worry cutie, we pay quite well here and just so happen have an opening for a maid and I can assure you, you’ll look just adorable in the uniform”
