Hot off the press, Bud Light presented trans star Dylan Mulvaney with a commemorative can of Bud Light who then did a video blog about it. Unfortunately, Budweiser forgot that many people who partake of their product are a bunch of homophobic Neanderthals.

I'd tell everyone to go out and buy Bud Light, but won't because I think the stuff is nasty.

I work at a liquor store and I’m getting some customers talking about the Bud Light controversy. Apparently they teamed up with a transgender influencer in an ad or something and now people are butt hurt about it so they’re boycotting. They’re always shocked when they see that we still have Bud Light cases in a prominent position (a giant stack out in our cooler because it’s such a big seller) and they want us to order more of another beer to replace it. I really enjoy telling them that we can’t do that because it’s still our second biggest seller next to Budweiser. Nothing has changed about our sales and last I heard the “boycott” wasn’t doing much. A lot of people just don’t care or don’t know, even when they put a giant rainbow on the box a few summers ago. Though we did have a few people demand we move the top 6 layers of the stack out so they could get one without the rainbow which I also really enjoyed saying no to.

So, if you didn’t see recently, Bud Light (yes, the beer) recently sent our gal Dylan (if you don’t know who Dylan is look her up! She’s great!) some beers which she posted to her Instagram and of course made The Right™️ big mad:

BUT of course since the backlash Bud Light has kind of walked back their support of trans people:

HOWEVER that’s not the full story, as two bigwigs from the company are “on leave” right now:

But why am I talking about this?

Well, I actually happen to drive by a distributing plant for Bud Light and other household-name brand beers on my way to work, and Saturday, before I knew all this was going on, I was confused but delighted as I was forced to crawl behind a southern driver (which is a misnomer, people down here be passing you at 85 in a 55) to see two trans flags hanging outside the plant!

I just want to say that like. Fuck companies. Fuck rainbow capitalism. Fuck them “walking back” their support and logging off on June 30th at 11:59pm to wipe their hands off and be like “ah yes, another year of Saving The Gays™️ done and over with 😇🙏🏻✊🏻”, but like on a local level, throwing up two trans pride flags outside a plant that makes their beer even if I do work in a city that openly has pride events as such is still a lot and a nice show of support. Like yeah at the end of the day it’s still rainbow capitalism so fuck that and it wasn’t there when driving by today but I doubt any bigwig at the company told the people working at that plant to go hang some trans flags out on their fence, you know?

I totally get what you meant about the Bud Light boycott working, but just wanted to add that it actually didn’t. Consumers switched to other brands that are owned by Budweiser (Kona, Michelob, Stella, Natty Light, Busch, etc) bc they didn’t realize they’re owned by Budweiser. So honestly just more proof to your point about only boycotting a portion of a company is useless

I would presume that Bud tracks sales of each brand though and could see that the people weren’t happy. But lol at it not actually affecting bc their profits 😂 I’m still shocked that they were that out of touch with their consumers though like what WAS that? Did no one do market research?

But yeah, agreed. Organised boycotts of multinational conglomerates are largely pointless, and on a personal note, anytime I’ve met someone who has early on in the acquaintance admitted they’re boycotting something unironically…I end up hating them.
