⭑.ᐟ — BOOK REVIEW
Tumblr media Tumblr media
welcome to the hyunam-dong bookshop by hwang bo-reum
— RATING: 9/10 • GENRE: fiction • TW: grief
— THOUGHTS: i absolutely loved the book. it was an easy read and the plot was predictable but in a comforting manner. this book felt like a cosy and a warm read. all the characters were relatable and felt representative of different hardships one person goes through. the growth of the characters was evident as the plot progressed. by the end of the book, it felt as if we have seen the characters grow and bloom in front us and along with us. each chapter left me thinking and retrospective of the moral and learnings. the main character, yeongju, represented most of us by having a dream of opening a bookshop. the book ended on a high note, leaving us with an experience of growth and change. i would definitely read this book again <3

I’m so sorry but in the nicest way possible do yall actually read books or just read words??? Cause I’ve been seeing that trend of people not understanding how “snarled” and “eyes darkened” and “eyes softened” etc. was used in a book and like…
Genuinely, do yall just not have imagination?? Or not understand figurative language??? Also eyes do literally darken and soften have you not lived a life??? How do you read with no imagination? Is this how you get through so many books in one month - you simply don’t take the time the understand the words as they are read?

Random writing thought: the best stories are often the ones that only you could have written — but also the ones that you could only write at this one moment.
I couldn't write All the Birds in the Sky from scratch now if I tried. But the me of 2013 couldn't have written The Prodigal Mother either.

Remember Hind. Remember Reem. Remember all the little boys and girls who are more than mere numbers. They are dreams, humanity's innocence, and most importantly they are not to be forgotten.

Now that gift season is approaching, here's a reminder that local independent bookshops in many countries are organized in websites so you can order whatever book you want and have it delivered. Like Amazon but instead of your money going to a billionaire who mistreats the workers and lobbies politicians to get away with more human right abuses, the money goes to local bookshops. So even if you didn't find what you wanted in your local bookshop (though it's always still worth checking out and the shop keeper will be able to recommend you an alternative or order the one you want!), you can order from a wider range and not contribute to making Amazon a monopoly.
In the UK and USA: Bookshop.org. In the UK there's also Hive.
In Spain: todostuslibros.com
In Italy: bookdealer.it
In France: Librairies Indépendantes and LaLibrairie.com
In Portugal: RELI (Rede de Livrarias Independentes)
In Aotearoa (New Zealand): BookHub
In Bulgaria: libristo.bg, book.store.bg, and knizhen-pazar.net (thank you @samodivas!)
In Germany: genialokal.de (thank you @lazzerot!)
In the Netherlands: libris.nt (thank you @maramontwrites!)
Add yours if we're still missing it! ^^
