Something I really love about being a reader is the fact that your tastes can change significantly throughout the years, but that just means you suddenly get exposed to so many new books and worlds to explore, and the possibilities are endless. I went from being a fantasy girlie, to an exclusively YA girlie, to a thriller, a non-fiction and a horror girlie. It's so much fun to see your evolution as a reader and see all these avenues open up for you.

Thinking about that moment in Juniper and Thorn when Marlinchen pulls a human rib bone out of her sink and goes “ope, Papa must have killed a pig” and Sevas just like… says nothing. My guy was WHIPPED because I would have been running for the hills

Am I late to the party in understanding what the subtitle of Frankenstein really means??
„The modern Prometheus“ - like…
1. didn‘t Prometheus help Zeus BUILD humans???
2. Prometheus brought the world fire - something he was eternally punished for because he put himself in place of the gods in doing so, directly disobeying aforementioned Zeus
Am I the only one getting this now? Was this common knowledge? I‘m having an existential crisis over this (not as existential as Frankenstein‘s, but still…)

Today seems like a good day to drink copious amounts of coffee and read long into the night and pretend I exist inside of a cozy fantasy novel

it's almost the end of the year and i swear to baby jesus i have no idea if i can even make a top 10 books read this year, because it's been very... unsatisfying. i did manage over 60 books, i think i'm actually close to 70, but the quality was lacking, to say the least. hopefully 2025 is better to me in that regard

The Letter to the Sun: Eclipsed
Imagery for this poem☀️🌙
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I watch as laughter illuminates your cheeks,
rosy and bright, pulling me from shadow.
Your sun rays carve through my clouds like a blade,
warm as the light after a rainy day.
You, with the warmth I never knew I needed—
me, the quiet storm you calm with a glance.
I fear your light will scorch me to ash,
leaving only shadows where I once stood.
Yet as I orbit you, I drink your warmth—
a flood of golden rays, my soul’s elixir.
I ache for the caress of your fiery blaze,
each sun ray like fingertips grazing my face.
I want to drift between you and the Earth, my dear Sun.
In those rare eclipses, when you pull me close,
I feel whole, shadows dissolving under your pulse.
My dear Sun, let’s eclipse again.
If I could reach into your embrace,
I’d weave your flaming rays around me,
letting your light seep into my skin—
a desperate attempt to merge with you.
Each night, I crave your heat pressing
against my cold, dark surface,
the way starlight drapes over my skin.
My dear Sun, let’s eclipse again.
I wait for the brush of your light,
a searing kiss planted on my lips—
fleeting, yet strong enough to fill me whole.
Then the sun comes up, and the moon goes down.
I would give up every star in the sky,
just to feel your light rest against me a moment longer.
My dear Sun, the brightest jewel in my galaxy—
will we meet again, or will I remain in your shadow?
Note🌗
This poem is my original work. Please don’t repost or use it without asking me first—thank you!
This poem personifies the Sun and Moon to explore themes of longing and desire, connection and distance, vulnerability and fear, and a touch of unrequited love—emotions that are deeply woven into the human experience. If this poem resonated with you in any way, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thank you so much for reading.

I don’t know why we have to keep saying this but if you are a white author it is not a good idea to take someone else’s trauma and write a book about it. My main example of this will always be Handmaid’s Tale. Yes all women experience misogyny and often throughout history do not have autonomy over their bodies and have to fight for it. However, when you use the lived experiences of Black and Brown women, which historically have been treated much worse and still have to fight harder than white women, and then apply them to ALL women then yes you are going to get side eyed and maybe even told off depending on the person. This goes for any genre of book really but especially fantasy. I know we like to come up with interesting stories but when you as a white person think you have a right to include things like residential schools and the erasure of culture in your book about dragon colonizers…Let’s go back to the drawing board babes. Like it’s good you did research but let’s think. Not only are you actively taking part in taking away the voices of Black and Brown ppl by doing this but you are also profiting off of it. If you want to talk about oppressive systems so badly write the book from the POV of those that benefit from said systems. The reason why books with fantasy racism wind up getting bashed is cuz of this very thing. Taking things that you have not experienced and stamping them on elves, dragons, orcs, etc will rightfully get criticized by those who actually do have those experiences.
