I’m not saying the “lol Erik is an incel” jokes aren’t sometimes funny, but I do sometimes think people who more seriously subscribe to that interpretation of his character are simplifying him down a lot

Erik isn’t guy that’s just pissed off and violent because he’s not conventionally attractive and can’t get laid. Just going off what we know about his backstory from the book and musical, he is a disabled man who is living in the 19th century, an era even more difficult for disabled people than it is now.

He was never properly loved as a child and then was subsequently basically never — or very rarely — treated well by others. Yes, he wrongly thinks he is entitled to Christine’s love and thinks he can possess her. But I guess I don’t feel like his motivations just stem from incel type logic?

Idk. I feel like it’s unfair to flatten him down to “lol incel”
