hey !! idk if this is rude or out of place and if so feel free to not respond but how do you keep your art quality from lowering when you post? i seem to run into tumblr making my art look vry blurry unless its clicked on and yours look sooo good even before clicking on the photo. i feel like ive tried tinkering with a lot of settings but obvi ive missed something and would be so appreciative of the help !! idk if it matters but i use procreate?

hi thanks! this is kind of funny because i kind of go back and forth between trying to fry my art slightly or using nightshade so AI people won't want it and wanting it to be crisp so people can enjoy it

i use procreate too and the blurriness could have to do with (1) the size of the canvas you work on + the size of the canvas when you export from procreate and (2) the type of file you are exporting to:

(1) tumblr image posts are 540px wide so anything saved at a size larger than 540px will be scaled down to fit and thus stay looking crisp and not blurry bc of downsampling. i work on a larger canvas size (usually the size of the ipad screen) but tend to resize and save my art in the range of 800px based on vibes. still larger than 540px so downsampling will occur and the image will look crisp even when it's in the little 540px box. if you want to be more precise about the image size you could go based on a common screen size like 768px, 1080px (this might be esp nice since it's 540*2), 1440px, etc.

(2) jpegs are a lossy image format (if you keep saving a jpeg over and over it's like making photocopies of photocopies, eventually the quality of the file degrades). useful if you want to fry your art a bit! or if you are concerned about file size bc they are smaller. pngs on the other hand are lossless and will keep your image crisp. I still save to jpeg for uploading to tumblr just cause i don't think png quality is necessary. jpegs are supposed to load faster bc their file sizes are smaller so that may be a consideration as well

one last addendum to (1) is that I think the size of the canvas you work on / the size of your brushes relative to the canvas matters quite a bit. if your lines look great when you are super zoomed in and doing detail work that's all fine and great, but if you zoom out to the full size of the image and you can barely make those details out, neither will anyone else!
