Without You, I Got Nothing to Lose
Chapter 9 Tamaran
Summary:
Well what do you think?” Kory smiles at him expectantly.
“Beautiful, breathtaking, peaceful, enchanting.” His finger slid across her cheeks as he spoke. She leaned her face against his soft touch.
“I meant of Tamaran silly.” She blushed under his touch.
“Well you are Tamaran. I understand now. Why you did it.” His soft realization blew across her skin.
“I’m glad you do. What I can’t seem to understand why you did it?”
“I guess it just boils down to you. You seem to have that effect, but it’s on everyone. Not just me. I’m just grateful you are sharing all of this with me.” He looked deep into her eyes as he spoke. He meant every word.
“I’m glad you’re here. I’m sorry we have to hide. Stupid royal rituals and shit. But one day, I’ll tell them. They know I won’t stay. It’s not because I don’t love it here. I do. I just know there are many things about me that don’t belong.” Her voice filled with longing as she shared his glance.
“I belong wherever you are, Kory.”
Kory takes Dick home.

His Clutch on my Heart
Summary: Nico di Angelo had always walked the line between darkness and light. And then he found Will Solace. His blue eyes always peering at him with fascination rather than fear. Together, they plunge into a whirlwind of violence and passion, forcing them to confront not just the chaos around them, but the chaotic love blooming between them.
Tumblr media
Will Solace and Nico di Angelo didn’t set out to become infamous. They were a pair of strangers in the city’s underbelly, disconnected from anything resembling a moral compass. Or perhaps, they were simply each other’s compass—Nico being the north to Will’s strange south, pulling each other into an orbit where love blurred with madness and violence with affection.
It started when Will stumbled into one of Nico’s nights.
Nico di Angelo was in the middle of a job. He was finishing up with a gang member who had seen too much, and Nico—knife in hand, blood splattered on his cheek—was about to leave, his task done.
He turned around to see a stranger standing before him in the alley. Cerulean eyes wide with something that wasn’t quite fear. Curiosity, perhaps? Amusement?
For a split second, Nico contemplated killing him. He wasn’t one to leave witnesses alive. He tightened his grip on the knife, already taking a step forward. But then the stranger met his eyes, and Nico hesitated. It wasn’t a look of terror that the stranger gave him, nor was it shock or disgust.
It was fascination.
“Wow,” the stranger said softly, his voice light and unshaken. “That was… intense.”
Nico blinked, feeling something stir within him—something he hadn’t felt in a long, long time. It wasn’t anger, or the rush of adrenaline that came from silencing loose ends. It was curiosity.
“Who are you?” Nico demanded, voice low and threatening, though the effect seemed lost on this stranger.
“Will,” he replied simply, taking a cautious step forward. He wasn’t looking at him; he was looking at the body, head tilted as if he were observing something remarkable. “Will Solace.”
Nico’s eyes narrowed. “And why shouldn’t I kill you, Will Solace?”
Will's gaze locked onto him in an instant. He smiled—a bright, unnerving expression that seemed out of place in the dim, blood-stained room. “Well, you could try,” he said, voice lilting. “But I don’t think you really want to.”
Nico wasn’t sure if it was audacity or stupidity, but something about Will’s calm demeanor unsettled him in a way he couldn’t explain. He took another step forward, his knife catching the flickering light. Will didn’t flinch, didn’t show the slightest sign of fear. He just watched, eyes reflecting that strange, unbroken fascination.
“Why?” Nico asked, almost to himself.
“Why what?” Will replied, as if they were having a casual conversation over coffee instead of standing in a room with a cooling corpse between them.
“Why aren’t you scared?”
Will chuckled softly, and the sound was oddly warm. “Because I don’t think you’re going to hurt me,” he said, his voice disarmingly cheerful.
Nico didn’t like that answer, but he didn’t argue. He couldn’t quite bring himself to kill Will, even though every instinct told him it would be the logical choice. Something about Will’s presence—his steady eyes, his unnervingly serene smile—kept Nico’s knife at bay.
Instead, Nico turned the blade in his hand, lowering it slightly. “You should be running,” he muttered, more to himself than to Will.
Will didn’t run. Instead, he took a step closer, his smile never faltering. “And miss out on getting to know the guy behind those eyes? No thanks.”
That’s what stopped Nico. Those words—those damn words—coupled with Will’s unwavering gaze. It wasn’t the look of a victim. It was the look of someone who saw him, really saw him, in a way no one else ever had.
“Who the hell are you?” Nico murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
Will tilted his head, his grin softening into something almost gentle. “Just a guy who’s curious,” he said. “And who’s really impressed by your work, by the way.”
From then on, they became inseparable, drawn together by a mutual curiosity that quickly spiraled into something far darker. Will wasn’t like anyone Nico had ever met. He wasn’t afraid of Nico’s darkness; he embraced it, even seemed to revel in it.
-------------------------------------------------------------
They started their killing spree not out of necessity, but because they were both searching for something—something they found only in each other.
“Do you ever think about stopping?” Nico asked one night, lying in bed with Will. He traced his fingers over Will’s scars absentmindedly, his expression unreadable in the darkness.
“Stopping?” Will echoed, as if the concept hadn’t occurred to him before. He tilted his head to look down at Nico, eyes bright even in the low light. “Why would I want to do that?”
Nico didn’t have an answer. Or maybe he did, but it wasn’t one he wanted to admit out loud. He didn’t want to stop. Not when Will made the darkness feel almost… warm.
Instead, he sighed and closed his eyes, resting his head against Will’s chest. “You’re going to get us killed one day, you know.”
“Probably,” Will agreed, wrapping an arm around Nico’s waist. “But at least we’ll go together.”
Nico let out a quiet laugh, the sound almost bitter. “You’re such an idiot.”
“And yet, here you are,” Will countered, pressing a kiss to the top of Nico’s head.
“I must be an idiot too,” Nico muttered, but there was a softness in his tone that betrayed him.
They stayed like that for a while, wrapped in silence and each other. It was the only time Nico ever felt truly at ease, away from the world and its expectations. Will understood him in ways no one else ever could, saw him for who he really was, and still chose to stay.
-------------------------------------------------------------
The moon hung low in the sky, casting a cold light over the alley as Nico and Will approached their target. Tonight’s mission felt different, charged with a sense of purpose that both excited and unnerved Nico. They weren’t just hunting for sport; they were hunting for retribution.
“Are you ready?” Will asked, his voice low but steady. His blue eyes sparkled with a mix of anticipation and adrenaline.
Nico nodded, tightening his grip around the handle of his knife. This was no ordinary mark; it was a man who had caused too much suffering, a dealer who exploited the vulnerable and turned lives into shattered remnants. This time, it was personal.
“Let’s do this,” Nico said, steeling himself as they slipped into the dimly lit bar where their target was known to lurk. The air was thick with smoke and the scent of stale beer, but it was a familiar atmosphere that felt oddly comforting amidst the chaos.
They spotted him at the end of the bar, a smug grin plastered on his face as he laughed boisterously with a group of equally unsavory companions. Will shared a quick glance with Nico, and the unspoken understanding passed between them: this was their moment.
“Keep it quiet,” Will murmured, his tone steady as they approached. Nico could feel the adrenaline racing through him, a mixture of excitement and apprehension swirling in his gut.
“Got it,” Nico replied, forcing himself to focus. He wasn’t just here to end a life; he was here to bring justice, to ensure that this man could no longer harm anyone.
As they reached the bar, the dealer caught sight of them. “What do you want?” he sneered, his voice dripping with arrogance.
Will leaned in slightly, a playful smile on his lips. “Just wanted to have a little chat,” he said, the charm in his voice contrasting with the danger lurking beneath.
The man groaned, shooting a parting glance at his companions before pushing himself off the bar and trailing after Will.
The man glanced up, his lips twisting into a sneer as they entered the alley. They stopped at the center and Will leaned in, a predatory gleam in his eyes. "Nico said it was my turn to watch him play, and I don’t plan on missing the show."
Before the man could register the threat, Nico moved in closer, knife glinting under the dim lights. The man’s eyes widened in shock, and he stumbled back, but it was too late. With swift precision, Nico lunged forward, plunging the knife deep into the dealer’s side. The impact sent a jolt of adrenaline through him, and he felt an electric thrill wash over him as the man gasped in disbelief.
Will stood beside him, fierce determination radiating from his presence. “You’re never going to hurt anyone again,” he said, his voice cold as he watched the man crumble to the floor.
As the dealer gasped for breath, the chaos of the bar faded into the background. Nico felt a strange mix of satisfaction and horror, knowing they had just taken a life—but in this case, it felt justified. The world would be a better place without him.
With a final glance, Nico stepped back, panting slightly as the adrenaline coursed through him. Will met his gaze, a look of exhilaration lighting up his features. They had done it together—another mark on their unconventional journey.
“Let’s get out of here,” Will urged, breaking the silence as the remaining patrons began to notice the commotion. “Before anyone shows up.”
They slipped out into the night, the cold air hitting their faces like a splash of ice water. As they moved, Nico felt a rush of exhilaration—this was what it meant to be alive, to fight for something that mattered, even if it meant crossing lines that others wouldn’t dare.
-------------------------------------------------------------
The lights twinkled in the distance, a stark contrast to the darkness of their shared escapades. Nico and Will found themselves on a rooftop, the city sprawling beneath them like a living, breathing entity. The adrenaline still coursing through their veins.
Nico leaned against the cold metal railing, the wind tousling his dark hair. He glanced sideways at Will, who was sitting cross-legged on the edge of the roof, a blissful smile playing on his lips as he took in the view.
“You know,” Will began, his voice light and full of mischief, “I never thought I’d enjoy this as much as I do. Who knew killing people could lead to such pretty views?”
Nico rolled his eyes, unable to suppress a smile. “You really are an idiot,” he replied, but there was warmth in his tone.
“Your idiot,” Will shot back, leaning back on his hands and looking up at the stars. “It’s kind of nice up here. No one to bother us, no one to judge.”
Nico’s heart twisted at the thought. Up here, they were free from everything—the past, the shadows, the weight of their decisions. It was just them, surrounded by the night sky. “Yeah, but we can’t stay here forever.”
Will turned his head, fixing Nico with that infuriatingly endearing gaze. “Maybe we don’t have to go back right away. What if we just… stayed here for a while? Just you and me?”
Nico raised an eyebrow. “You want to just sit on a roof and stare at the stars?”
“Why not? It sounds peaceful,” Will said, his grin widening. “Besides, it’s not like we have to go back to the chaos right this second. We can take a breather.”
Nico hesitated, a flicker of uncertainty in his chest. The weight of their actions hung heavily in the air, but in Will’s presence, it felt lighter. “Okay, fine. A breather. But only for a little while.”
“Deal!” Will exclaimed, clearly pleased. He settled into a comfortable silence, and Nico joined him, both of them enveloped in the stillness of the night.
As they sat there, something shifted between them, a bond forged in the chaos of their lives but anchored by this quiet moment. Nico could feel the tension ebbing away, replaced by a sense of connection that was both exhilarating and terrifying.
“Do you ever think about what comes next?” Nico asked after a while, his voice barely above a whisper.
Will turned to him, brow furrowing. “You mean, after all this? After… everything we’ve done?”
Nico nodded, unsure if he wanted to hear the answer. “Yeah. Do you ever think about a life where we don’t have to run from anything?”
Will looked thoughtful for a moment. “Sometimes. But I don’t think it has to be about running from our past. We could run towards something instead. Together.”
Nico met Will’s gaze, something igniting in his chest. “Together,” he echoed, feeling the weight of those words.
“Exactly.” Will grinned, eyes sparkling with that relentless hope that always drew Nico in. “We could find a place—anywhere. A cabin in the woods, a little beach house. Somewhere quiet where we can just be ourselves. Away from all this.”
Nico considered the idea, a flicker of excitement racing through him. The thought of escaping to a place where they could truly be free filled him with a strange warmth. “You think we could actually do that?”
“Why not?” Will said, shrugging as if it were the most natural thing in the world. “We can make our own rules. We’ve already defied everything else.”
A smile tugged at the corners of Nico’s mouth. “Okay, I’ll entertain the idea. A cabin in the woods, huh?”
“Or a beach house! Somewhere with sun and no memories,” Will added enthusiastically.
Nico laughed, feeling a lightness in his heart that he hadn’t felt in years. Maybe it was the idea of escape, or maybe it was the thought of facing the future with Will by his side. Either way, it felt right.
As the stars twinkled overhead, Nico knew one thing for certain: no matter what chaos awaited them, they would face it together. And perhaps, just perhaps, they could carve out a place of their own, away from the shadows.

This World Won't Ever Forget Us
Javid Bonnie & Clyde Au? tumblr made me do it. woo!
Based on the fic "Bite The Bullet" by and Orphan Account and a post made by @/spacestamps!
--------------------
For Jack Kelly, it simply started as a way out.
He didn’t mean for anything more significant; he figured all he had to do was get a job or two done and hightail it way out west; away from ugly old Oklahoma to somewhere, oh good god, somewhere better than here.
He had his eyes set on a little place called Santa Fe. Seemed endearing, and god knows New Mexico was far enough away from here.
Jack Kelly wasn’t a wise man - hell, he was a little orphaned 21-year-old with no money, barely a plan, the clothes on his back, and a hijacked car.
Ah, speaking of that hijacked car, the sirens behind him got more worrying as they got louder.
Revving slightly and pushing the pedal almost as far as he could go, breaking several traffic laws without even trying he blasted off down the dusty old roads, tattered shirt rippling in the pushing force of wind trying to slow him down. He saw a parting in the roads and smiled traffic coming up, and the good thing about the car manufacturers out here today was almost all these damn cars looked about the same.
He turned into the trafficked area and did his best to blend as he weaved through the exits and cut off a few now very angry civilians. He found a tail in a near-identical car that suddenly left him and the police were none the wiser as they sped off when he slowed;
Time to figure out where the fuck he was.
Jack cruised a bit, the adrenaline not gone but not as rampant as before. He passed apartments, bars, dusty old hair salons, and-
A quaint-looking diner called ‘The World’, with a bright peeling paint emphasizing the dreadful rundown look of the place.
Perfect.
He pulled in with a casual tumble, grabbing his ragged worn-out trench coat from behind him, and a simple little newsboy cap he found pawned from manhattan. Something about history or whatever, he turned out pretty quickly when he heard the cheap ass price.
Strolling in, the first thing that caught his eye- or, well, his ear first, then his eye- was the berating of some poor waitstaff.
“David! Getcha’ sorry ass over here!” sneered some sorry ugly-faced man in an even uglier bowler hat and- No, jack was sure he wasn’t seeing doubles- the wonder twins of ugly old' lane were harassing’ some unfortunate soul named ‘David’
Speak of the devil, some poor guy about his age skimped out with a poor look on his face, about the likes of a kicked kitten trudged his way out, a similar looking cap and a neat little blue shirt and vest combo- he wasn’t poor, by the looks of it, and held a clean air to him.
Jack found himself a seat, trying to law low of course in case Lucy Law strolled their way in after snuffing the dead end, but keeping a keen eye upon the waitstaff, who looked about in for a hard time with the look the disgustin’ doubles were sharin between themselves.
“Hey David, didn't we tell ya to keep these counters clean?” the one on the left scowled
“Yes, Morris.”
“And,” butted in the other one with a snarl, “What do we have here?”
Morris and wonder twin two pointed to a small splotch of a coffee stain, which looked pretty fresh. David sighed, grabbing a rag nearby and starting to soak it before-
“Hey! We’s ain't finished, kid.” Butted in Morris again. Smiling a sinister smile, he nabbed the rag from David’s grasp as the other twin corned him from the back.
David, God bless his soul, looked like he was trying to decide whether to soak the two in and out, or take a nap on the floor for a good century. His remarkably blue eyes looked dampened, and his hands were fidgeting and fleeting with emotions trying to grasp for control in the shit of a situation he was in.
Jack decided to choose a new spot at the bar, taking a seat two empty from a properly dazed lookin old fellow who was drooling into his eggs and potatoes.
“Excuse me, fellas-” he cut in as the twins were about to go on a spiel. The two looked at him with disgust while David looked with the relief of a man who just found a spring in the desert.
That paused him, letting out a fumbled smile before continuing
“I, ahem, just would like a coffee please.” nothing he intended on paying, mind you. He needed his money to go elsewhere, then a flirtin’ with the poor, pretty boy also stuck planted into Oklahoma to get away dime free wouldn't hurt nothing.
The other twin - Oscar, he gathered from the peachy little pin fallin' off his apron - sneered again, looking sad he didn't get to berate his poor employee anymore
‘Yeah, whateva. David! Get on it, and I better see that man served, this counter cleaned and this floor spotless when I get back or Snyder’s gonna be getting a really bad report.” he called behind him and trailed off after his brother.
Sighing once more, David looked up and met Jack’s eyes. he gave a pitiful smile to jack.
“Thank you, sir. Now what would you like?” he said formally, that twinge of tired defiance laced his voice as it turned into an artificial customer-service mode.
“No problem, at all. Were the wonder twins givin ya problems?” he leaned over the counter slightly. Hints of genuine concern laced Jack’s voice, which not only surprised David but himself as well. He was a romantic, yeah, but he never thought he was This bad.
The waiter paused, a bit taken aback before sighing yet again- he was on a roll now, - and letting down his coffee pitcher slightly. Grabbing a cup and pouring out the coffee he continued,
“Yeah, it’s my first day on the job here. And Oscar and Morris are…very strict. I’m already miserable but, money’s money, at least I get to see more than two places in this dead state. It’s up to three now.” he joked dryly, meeting Jack’s eyes as he placed the coffee down in his hands.
He grabbed a towel, turning but keeping a side towards jack as he started to clean. Jack took a slow draw of a slip. Wow, what a guy. Surprisingly similar too. He placed the cup down, giving a chuckle and flashing his winning smile out to him.
“Yeah, well, I feel ya. I’m gettin’ outta this hellhole though, mark my words.”
David smiled back shyly, turning more. “Oh, I will. Say, I’ve never seen you round here much. New in town?”
Jack chuckled again, “no, oh do I wish. But I got a car and a plan, how hard can it be?”
David’s head slowly turned up, like gears were calculating in his head. His mouth set to open like he was about to say something before-
“Dave! What did I say bout’ these counters!” Morris snarled out, stomping over to the two. He gave jack a downright nasty look before David grumbled and suddenly cut through the noise of the twins speaking over eachother
“I’m taking a smoke break. When I get back in I’ll do it.” David said with a surprising edge of sass in his voice, despite how ready he seemed to pass out.
He tossed the towel over his shoulder and grabbed a small pack of cigars from his pocket, leaving through the front of the diner, and back out toward the opposite parking lot.
Jack fumbled, seeing Morris steam in his spot until he shot a look at his brother. Oscar nodded and followed him out.
That can’t be good.
Jack waited for a moment, hearing the yelling rise. Yeah, definetly can't be good-
He shot from his seat toward the exit as the old man beside him seemed to wake up a bit, (the bastard was even eyeing his coffee up)
he sharply turned the corner and what jack Jack found was a bloody-nosed David with a look in his eyes that could have knocked Jack out.
It was so cooly fierce, determined but not in a stupid way. This kid may not have the brawns but, those eyes were dangerous, and Jack loved it.
But when David spotted Jack, he looks fleeted away for one of relief, followed by fear as he ducked away from another fly-by of Oscar’s fist.
Jack ran up and clocked the guy behind the neck, gettin' him real good before flying in front of Dave and landing a kick in Oscar’s left thigh again.
He reeled back and swing wildly, catching Jack’s cheekbone and giving it a bruiser. Jack cried out a yell and turned to see Dave on the other side that Oscar wasn’t looking from and got him in his bottom back, completely knocking the wind out of the guy from his side, probably achin his ribs for good measure too.
Oscar doubled over in a wheeze and Jack took this as an opportunity to grab Dave’s hand and bolt away.
They got a good way to Jack’s car before he paused and said
“Wait, wait- where are we going?!” he blurted, looking David in his furiously blue eyes.
“Don’t know, don’t care, get me out of here. Far out of here. I don't care, you have your car and your plan- well I want in on that too. Please.” he grabbed and pulled forward both of Jack’s hands, eyes pleading yet forceful.
“Wh-woah there, hold on- I can't just let ya- do you- how- don’t you have a home? A family?” he blurted again, quickly as he heard more yells from inside the diner, likely the boys of satan troubling up again.
“I…they won’t care, it’ll be easier on them with one less person to care for. They don’t need my money if they don’t need to spend it on me.” he reasoned. his conflict was evident yet his drive to get the hell out of dodge was clearly winning out.
Jack paused again- he felt for him, he really did, and good god did he want to run away with this boy. But, he had to be reasonable. he wasn’t exactly just planning on taking a drive mind you.
Dave must've seen this look before cautiously saying “if it makes you feel better, ill leave some money and a note saying Im safe’n all.”
Jack nodded before slowly starting “I don’t exactly have a very safe plan, though-“
Hearing a door open and a subsequent yell, Jack was cut off and panicked. David took this to jump in the car and shove jack in beside him. he got the memo pretty quick and backed out if there like a madman on wheels.
Hightaling it once more, this time he just happened to have a cute boy in his car.
that had no idea he was a criminal.
Shit.

Listen, I’m not gonna write a Kanthony Bonnie and Clyde AU just because I just watched (and loved) the Bonnie and Clyde musical.
I’m not gonna write a Kanthony Bonnie and Clyde AU bc I have way to many WIPs going on.
I’m not gonna write a Kanthony Bonnie and Clyde AU bc I swore to myself I wouldn’t write a story where they both die in the end.
Should I name it “The World Will Remember Us” or “I Won’t Go To Heaven (Why Not Raise a Little Hell)”?

How would Marc and Nathaniel feel if they found out they were the reincarnation of Marquel and Natale?
First they’d be in denial
Then they’d look at the photos and think, “Okay, I see the resemblance”
Then they’ll freak out when they read the similarities, the main one being how they were in awful relationships
And when they’re old enough, they take up shooting lessons for… No reason

Bird motifs would go crazy in mom lumine au because, while I’m not entirely sure why she left Yanqing, this reminds me of brood parasitism.
Definition just in case: A type of parasitism in which the parasitic bird lays its eggs in the nest of another bird (host) and lets the host incubate them.
I’m (pretty) sure she wasn’t targeting Jing Yuan when she left Yanqing but like,,,
Anyway tell me I’m not crazy and you see this too
Oh my god?? Anon why are you cooking so hard?? I can't really say it's far from accurate, honestly, although Lumine's motivations aren't as parasitic as the cuckoo's. You're definitely far from crazy though. Knowing what she knows and experiencing what she has, Lumine wasn't fit to be a mother and giving up Yanqing was her way of coming to terms with that hard truth. Whether she was being cruel or merciful is up to you.

The metal of the jailhouse bars was cool against his lips.
Their hands, clasped together and resting on the steel, seemed to generate the only warmth in the open, echoing room.
“Carwood,” He said, voice strained and shaking, hands warm and rough. “It’s not too late—”
“Of course it is,” Carwood cut him off. It was almost like they’d switched positions, in two years. Neither hunted nor hunter, neither loved nor lover, the same in the most opposite way. “It’s always been too late. Since… since the day I first saw you, it was too late.”
Dark eyes bore into his and barely wavered. Slender, calloused fingers tightened around his own before releasing them.
“Go.” Ronald Speirs said, and stepped further back into the cell. “Before I won’t let you.”

Without You I Got Nothing to Lose
Chapter 10 Finale
Summary:
...the sweltering heat won’t allow them to fully relax.
In the distance the sound of helicopters trigger Dick’s senses. “Did you hear that?”
Kory sits up. “Yeah I think we need to get back.”
“Me too.”
They walk briskly back to the suv and Dick hops in the passenger as Kory expertly shifts the gears as she reverses kicking up dust as they speed back to the compound.
The closer they get the louder the helicopters roar, hovering above the front garden. To Dick’s surprise Donna is waiting with Rachel, tears streaming down her face, as the approach. Gar is not far away. Him, Kom, and Conner on the other side.
“Dick, we have to go now.” She wastes no time for pleasantries. She smiles at Kory sympathetically. “They were launching boats off the coast, Dick. Right before I took off. They know about her. They know.”

This World Won't Ever Forget Us
javid AU chapter two electric boogaloo. we get some perspective switch-up. this probably isn't similar to my usual means of writing, and it's not beta'd at all. I'm still working on getting a grasp of these characters, I apologize if they're ooc.
this one took me to hell and back. anyways, ill bitch more in the tags, you may now eat your lukewarm microwave meal of a chapter
as always, inspired by "Bite The Bullet" on ao3
-----------------
David Jacobs was a smart guy, this was an undisputed fact. Ask his Mother, Father, Sister, or Brother.
Ask his few drifting 'friends', that, are honestly more like 'odd Acquaintances' or 'pitiful classmates'. Ask any of his proud teachers who liked having a nice boy and star pupil or the begrudging teachers that let who they saw as a smartass and some 'waking mouth' go by with flying colors in their class.
So, if you were to say, ask David Jacobs why he was in a car, going 45 down a highway, hoping, prayin’ that the law wasn’t on their ass, he would simply stare in your face like you were a madman.
Yet, he was the madman in question.
Hearing the car rev again before slowing down, he turned to his fellow escapee.
He looked about his age, give or take possibly a year or two, but he could tell that he didn’t seem the type to have a ‘Just Graduated’ mentality after having just watched him let loose in the rickety old car down the highway after beating up someone for him in an alleyway.
“So… He started slowly, holding onto his cap that still threatened to fall off his head despite the acceleration of the car being slowed.
“If you’re about to ask if we have any form of a plan, sugar, you’re shit out of luck.” He said exasperatedly. Dave shut his mouth quickly after that. That was, indeed his question- but there was a bit more to it.
“Actually- er, I wanted to know your name.” He said, probably sounding just as exasperated himself as a look of guilty shock briefly traveled on the driver’s face.
“...Jack, um, Kelly. Jack Kelly.” He said, slowly, as if clashing with himself out whether to entrust the information to David.
“David Jacobs, but you already knew most of that.” He said, to clear the air a bit. The car was fully slowed down now, and he let go of his cap.
They sat again in a bit of awkward stillness before David decided that, if he were likely gonna be spending a little while with this guy, he would bite the bullet, and get to know him.
“So, erm..where did you grow up?”
“Rowena, Texas.” He replied flatly.
“Texas? That’s…nice. Why in the hell did you leave Texas for Oklahoma? This place is the worst, y’know.”
“Wasn’t no choice. ‘Pa had to pack it up from Texas due to our farm going up in price he couldn't keep up with. Stopped up here for a bit and then I got myself arrested.”
And that, made David’s heart stop a bit.
Run away with a stranger? Bad. Run away with someone who has a criminal record? To, kindly put it, he was fucked.
“Um…wow…” he said hesitantly.
He watched Jack deflate a bit. “It was petty theft. A bicycle- I was 13.” He said, still wearing that shunned expression yet not sounding remorseful one bit.
This did help Dave’s conscious, if not just a tad. He nodded and said,
“So, no plan, a record consisting of…bike theft, and a car.”
“Stolen car, a gun in the back, and only one destination before I was bound to drop off the face Oklahomama…” Jack rambled out, gripping down the steering wheel, before blinking a moment and sighing.
“Before, you of course,” he said with a near wistful glace if Dave had to truly describe it. Wistful, Scared, And the same blink-and-you-miss-it 'oh, god I'm fucked' look in his eyes.
And if David took note of his rather pretty slightly multi-colored brown-green eyes, that was just for him to know, thank you very much.
David stared back. He was in a car- a stolen car, his brain helpfully supplied to him- with a criminal and a gun, on the run, running where?
He kept that thought aside- he was too busy still looking at an extremely stressed-out-looking Jack starting to babble on once more.
“I tried- to tell ya, I mean. I promise i-i ain’t no crook. Just- trying to get out, like you.” He paused, looking guiltily again before starting up
“I can drive you back. Back to your house, or, hell even that scum stunk diner if you don’t feel safe or nothin-”
Jack Kelly couldn't continue, as he was busier suddenly attempting not to crash a car at the moment-
due to the fact that David Jacobs was currently kissing him.
Jack wasn’t an expert in anything romantic.
He had one ‘girlfriend’ on a nearby farm once, when he was nine, and a few here-and-there crushes. It took one crisis in juvenile detention to take a realizing that, he liked boys just as much as he did gals- he didn't express it too much less someone like his Ma, from those few fragmented memories he had of the woman who left him, who spent every open minute on about God hatin’ the ‘Queers’ and may take it in their head to try and hurt him for it.
Jack knew he had a little thing for the boy who ran away with him in his stolen car, and, to have this boy kissing him like his life depended on it was a real eye-opener, especially while you're supposed to be driving.
Eventually, as if they both remembered humans do need to breathe, and broke apart, Jack's eyes darting to the open road ahead of them and making a sharp turn to the side of the road.
David’s eyes widened as if it had just hit him what he’d done.
Dave started to panic, internally- he just kissed him! Just like that! He didn't pull away sure but- maybe he was shocked? Angry? Maybe he was about to yell at Dave for not asking or he probably didn’t even like guys at all oh god-
Dave’s worries were paused by Jack kissing him this time.
Oh- well, that was a whole lot better than what he initially expected to happen.
Jack pulled them apart and then, sighed, oh so dramatically, that David couldn’t help but laugh himself.
“So..." he started, that exasperation back mixed with a meekness David expected seeing in watching his younger Brother trying to ask a girl out to a dance. Dave simply smiled, giving Jack a patient smile
Jack paused, looking up again. he gained his confidence once more, if only for a second.
"We don’t know each other still anyways, but Davey Jacobs, will you go wherever the hell with me despite my vast and likely growing criminal record?"
If you asked David Jacobs’ parents, siblings, acquaintances, and teachers. or anyone who ‘knew’ him, they would tell you he was obviously smart enough to say hell no.
“I Will.”
—————–––—————––
Stepping into the shittest motel he’d ever seen, Dave was really starting to feel the romance. And now the lack of adrenaline that’s been fueling his life-changing choices.
Jack rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.
“It’s not perfect, I know- but, once I get another job done, we’re gonna be in the finest homes wherever we wanna be.” He grinned- that grin could bring David’s mind from its encyclopedic likes to nothing in an instant, yet somehow make him want to write the sappiest most romantic stuff he could ever dream of.
Dave nodded and let him talk to the clerk, requesting the one-bedroom and getting by with an odd look, and thankfully nothing else. The man didn’t seem an uptight kind, god knows what happens here at his motel, and by the looks of the place, David was sure that two guys who may be queer were the least of his concerns.
He and Jack made their retreat up, and when they got there Dave Collapsed backward onto the bed while Jack dropped a few things to the little shoddily built wood table beside them.
Dave looked up seeing the car keys, Jack's handgun, and a few papers on top of an open map.
“What’s that?” He asked, scooting over to see a few things marked down on the map half-covered by newspaper clippings and addresses, and a few notes in piss-poor handwriting from odd names like "Race" and "Specs"
“Places I need to be or have scouted out.” He said stoically, before smiling and grabbing his hand suddenly.
Jack pulled him over and put a pencil in Davey's hand and wrapped his arms around his shoulders with a giddy little smile.
“Well? Anywhere you want babe. The world is ours the second I get those jobs done and then some. Any Job, Home, Earnin' you can think of.” he smiled, taking a step back and letting Davey have full control now.
This was new.
David Jacobs could finally help call the shots. Be dangerous, Be wild, and kill off that clean-cut plastic mold of a person he had to be, the person that drove him to the madness that got him to jump in that car this morning.
Ever since he was a kid there was almost always something he had to take care of. He had to help his father out constantly after the accident and relies on Dave to help him with his job. If Sara was unable to help their mother, Dave could do it with no problem. keep up with the chores, do the schoolwork, and help with his parent's work and his sister's work.
Then in school, his intellectual ability was immediately turned against him by others. Got a project with David Jacobs? Oh, then you basically don't have to do anything at all! Let brainiac handle it.
Then, Mom & Dad have Les, and David Jacobs becomes the babysitter, helper, worker, cheat sheet, and everything else in between. Every minute of his life became doing things for and taking care of other people.
And now, Tall, Dark, Handsome swoops into his life, and Jack Kelly gives him freedom.
He looked up at Jack with one of the most genuine expressions of happiness he’d ever felt on himself before and looked back down at the map.
He too wanted to see it all, and by god, He & Jack were gonna.
But David Jacobs was a smart guy, who knew they had to start small.
He circled a little theatre right outside Oklahoma City, a nice rich place his family traveled to once.
He had an ally there.
