A plate of eggs appears, yolks swirling in impossible patterns. The jukebox hums a song you’ve never heard, but remember. Fries lie perfectly straight, their shadows bending the wrong way. A milkshake drips upward, forming a puddle on the ceiling. The floor creaks, but only when you’re not moving. A donut spins slowly on the counter, endlessly, never falling. A clock ticks backward, counting down to nothing.]

Tina Rowe: "Oyster Shell Ghosts" (2019)

Photographer Tina Rowe printed a series of found negatives on discarded oyster shells, breathing new meaning into forgotten items. Each shell is first subbed, to help the emulsion adhere to the surface. They are then coated with multiple layers of customised photographic emulsion.

Does it smell of rot? Does Agi feel grief over getting used to the smell of his true love's decaying corpse? Does he desperately light as many candles as he can just to forget the smell only to smell it once again and achieve a morbid peace in knowing that his sins will not go unpunished?

I was compelled to draw something more unsettling for this one
