Big Rock Point Nuclear Power Plant
A time series of visitor booklets from approximately 1962, 1965, 1967, and 1969.
If youā€™re curious about the other two nuclear plants mentioned : Palisades came on the line at the end of 1971, and was withdrawn from service in 2022, after a lifetime production of 232 terawatt-hours. Efforts are being made to bring it back into service, although the age of the reactor vessel weighs against that. The cost of needed upgrades and modernization could not be amortized over very many years.
After long delays, Dow Chemical backed out of the Midland project, leading Consumers to cancel Midland 1 close to completion. The Michigan Public Utility Commission then forced Consumers to abandon construction of Midland 2 in the middle 1980s. We really wonder about the economic rationale for these decisions, which resulted in large costs to ratepayers with no corresponding benefit.

This was going to be a panel of a little comic but I got too invested in drawing minute background details so, here.
#They are having an argument over 1) whether crops can be grown on the moons 2) what - if any - impact does this have on the feasibility#of an afterlife being located on the moons#Brakul is a partial convert to the Imperial Wardi faith but this mostly entails having adopted the seven faced God (and some#other elements of the belief system) into his worldview and participating in expected rites while retaining his central#ancestor veneration practices completely unchanged and mostly prioritized.#This doesn't actually cause much friction in of itself with the big exception being disagreements on the afterlife#Wardi practices surrounding death prioritize proper handling of the corpse and funerary rites in order to get the dead where they#need to be- death is a fraught transition from one state to another. analogous to birth. The role of the living is to get the dead through#this transition (preventing them from being stuck earthbound as earthbound ghosts - which is the Bad afterlife). Once the dead#make it to the moons that's it. They don't really interact with the living. There's plenty of conceptualization of what it's Like#in the lunar lands but the cultural priority is not even slightly on the Logistics of existence there.#Whereas the CORE of religious practice among the Hill Tribes is ancestor veneration - ancestors remain interactive with the living#and require/desire their continual support. They are conceptualized as having earthlike 'lives' where they eat and drink#and grow crops and herd livestock and they need the support of the living (in prayers and offerings) to do so prosperously.#There is a HIGH cultural priority on the logistics of their afterlife and it's self-apparent that the world of the dead needs fertile earth#to support them.#So like bottom line Brakul thinks there's no goddamn way that the moons could support an afterlife (they are described as#barren rock that was flung into the sky during creation and certainly Look that way)#and that the Wardi are just wrong about their afterlife's location. They probably go to the celestial fields (which are located#behind the moons and stars) like everyone else#And Janeys finds this aggravating and doesn't see his fucking point but has developed a nagging concern that Brakul Could be#partly right in that the celestial fields could Maybe exist in addition to the lunar lands.#So like maybe they aren't going to go to the same place when they die?#He's already terrified that he'll be stuck as an earthbound ghost and really doesn't want to be even further separated so#he figures he should make sure he gets himself dead and cremated at the same time as Brakul so they can navigate the#transitional period together.#Brakul is unconcerned because he figures that if Janeys actually does get stuck on those barren ass moons he can just kinda#Go Get Him#Ancestor spirits fly to the earth all the time and the moons would be a much shorter distance. Probably wouldn't be an issue.#Long story short these disagreements and underlying anxieties result in fights over whether you can grow corn on the moons or nah

Something about Lee talking that he wanted for Stone to be a orphan just like Robotnik fascinates ļæ¼me. How would Stoneā€™s childhood (if we saw it) similar yet different from Robotnikā€™s and how would that affect the Doctor? Because I like think thatā€™s one of the reasons Robotnik keeps him around because like Robotnik Agent Stone has nobody.

I love Jazzy, just as a general rule, but something that caught my eye in the beginning was the little ways Jazzā€™s brother treats his brother like shit.
Looking at the anime, it makes sense why they censored the women and kept the mess to a minimum for animations sake, but at least heā€™s clothed and awake. It makes it seem as though Jazzā€™s older brother is doing it for the soul purpose of being a bastard.
But looking at the manga, heā€™s asleep. The curtains and couch are torn, the mess is purely clothes, food, and drinks.
His brother isnā€™t even awake to gloat. The manga gives the impression that Jazzā€™s brother disregards his space on a regular, to the point where he feels comfortable passing out drunk half naked in his brothers space.
I know itā€™s not just me, but having a room- thatā€™s supposed to be a safe space- violated repeated by sights and smells you donā€™t know? This poor kid has no sense of privacy or safety. His family literally runs on the idea that if you get robbed itā€™s your fault.

thinking about the trope horror of assistants in the Daycare just straight up failing or quitting over and over and over again is as funny as it is tragic to me.
of course if you're waltzing on in there, rearranging the furniture and scolding the Robot who Literally Lives There it would cause problems. change is inevitable and always looming but would it not just get tiresome acclimatizing people to this role, just for them to quit anyway.

LET US HEAR THE ROCK CRUSH HEADCANNONS!
Please I need them ;(
YAYAYAAY ROCK CRUSH HCS LETS GOO EHE
I love the little boobookeys they wrote him so perfectly mole-like it makes me sooo happy
Although he has poor eyesight, Rock Crush is incredibly sensitive to touch and sound! He can hear very well which is what helps him get around so easily despite the lack of clear vision.
This also means he can very easily locate people and bots. This works best when heā€™s underground, though.
Rock Crushā€™s heightened sensitivity to touch allows him to know how well he can drill through something just by placing his palm on it. He can very easily identify the different types of rock, dirt, and infrastructure by this.
This increased sensitivity has its downfalls, though, as he can quickly become physically overstimulated if touched repeatedly. Even if itā€™s just a brush of the shoulder , he can feel it to such extreme levels that it can lead to physical discomfort and pain. Therefore, the other Cardbots have learned (thankfully through Globerā€™s quick intervention) to always ask Rock Crush to touch before actually doing so.
Naturally this sensitivity allows him to know whoā€™s around him just by feeling their plating. This also goes for sound. He knows whoā€™s around him by the patter of feet and hiss of hydrolocks.
Rock Crush burrows. A lot. Like, a lot a lot. When he was first sealed and adjusting to the new environment, the second he felt overwhelmed heā€™d burrow right into the ground or wall beside him. This led to a LOT of holes in Edoā€™s shop.
Stress, anxiety, overstimulation, etc etc Rock Crush combats by burrowing. Itā€™s his defense mechanism and way of staying calm. The second his head is safety burrowed, he starts to calm down.
Rock Crushā€™s burrowing was not something that he could simply outlearn, so the team had to adapt. A good big pile of dirt and gravel for Rock Crush to easily hide in is a nice middle ground for everyone involved.
Speaking of burrowing, yā€™all seen videos of moles getting picked up and they immediately start trying to burrow into the personā€™s hand? Rock Crush does something similar.
If Rock Crush gets a little overwhelmed or anxious he will burrow against someone. This is most always Glober. Rock Crush will very insistently burrow into Globerā€™s side and hide and Glober will drape his arms around the young bot to give the semblance of coverage. Itā€™s a good quick way to calm the little mole down while ensuring he doesnā€™t cause anymore property damage.
Other bots he will do this to is Deep Bite and Cielo.
ARGGG I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM HES MY LITTLE MOLE AND MY BABYYYY guys I love rock crush. Thank you for the ask !!!!!! :)))))

Becoming deeply radicalized against the idea of crewed Mars missions, y'know how the Rovers keep sending back better and better data what if instead of that we made an even bigger one and devoted nearly 90% of its capacity to holding a guy in a bubble on top of it instead of sending back useful data, but wait! They'll eliminate like a half hour of latency and also almost certainly contaminate the landing site and possibly the entire planet, so it's not all downside.
#At least in the near term it's fucking pointless and the downsides are very large and very big#Quite frankly it is extraordinarily likely that the first people to arrive at mars will do so dead#Because they will have been sent by fucking idiots willing to take too large risks#But the good news is that the wreck will spread across and contaminate huge amounts of the martian biosphere#To the point that we will quite possibly never be able to discern the history of life on mars#But if they live at least they'll get to slightly reduce the latency on our telerobotic fleet!#And travel home with the samples I guess#Good thing Percy's tagging and bagging rocks that we just canceled the return trips for#At least once we fuck up the rest of the planet those will be sterile#Kinda still excited about Aritimis but also kinda becoming anti-human spaceflight in general#We should consider not doing that for a while and at most focus specifically on living on the moon in a controlled and limited fashion#Ground the whole fucking commercial fleet who gives a shit those capsules are both gonna get someone killed sooner rather than later#And it's not like we're learning a whole lot by having people on hand up there#They spend most of their time trying to keep the machines from falling apart#Which is the main thing people would be doing for three continuous years on the shortest possible mars mission#Like you could send a dozen rovers for the price of one crewed mission both mass and money-wise#And that's probably a lowball estimate even assuming more and more advances in rover technology#Which are happening a lot faster than the advances in life support technology#Right now we do not even have enough functioning space capsules at our low earth orbit space station#Starship HLS is a fucking joke#The whole thing reeks let's just stop sending people into space for a while what were we really getting out of it

KIMONO MY HOUSE VINYL!!!!!!
Also funny story which is that when my brother took these to the cashier he said something like "oh... Sparks... they were here one year ago"
#YES THEM BEING THERE IS EXACTLY WHY I TOLD MY BROTHER TO GO THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE ('there' being tower records in japan)#but i find it so funny that the cashier actually remarked on that fact too#anyway. you need to know that i'm feeling so very AAAAHHHH right now. all of these are such a big deal to me#i didn't think i'd actually own KMH ON VINYL at any point#also utterly shocked about the guerilla toss CD. very exciting to have that one too#they're one of my fav bands and i implore everyone who likes unhinged and very experimental and cacophonic rock to check them out#this album (eraser stargazer) isn't the most accessible thing there is out there but i really love it#(i don't even know how to describe it properly. it's just really something to behold anyway)#the plushie is also a gift from my brother!! i'll gladly take any name suggestions for him#oh and also sparks debut album. first album that i own both on CD and vinyl as of today#it's not even that it's my fav sparks album or anything (i do really love it though and it's definitely somewhere in my top ten)#it's just that some albums feel more like they 'fit' with the vinyl format than CD in sound. to me at least#one other example of that besides this one being gratsax#ok i think that's all i have to say about this. one of the most epic hauls of my life that's for sure#OH WAIT one more thing. somewhat unfortunate actually#which is that my brother said he's pretty sure he saw a latte vinyl#but when he passed by that section again like 10 minutes later he already couldn't find it. oh latte.......#it's ok i'll have it one day. i'm really curious what went down there though. did someone really snag it in those 10 minutes???#and yes in case you're worried i did thank my brother profusely for getting me all this#and now i'm going to force him to listen to the TMBG vinyl with me so that he's PREPARED FOR THE CONCERT#that's in 3 months and that he's know about for a year and a half. ok i'm done now#goosepost

Russ Ballard producing Daltrey's album
1975 Interview
Russ Ballard has something special. Call it professionalism, the sure touch, luck, talent, a mixture of the lot if you like, but everything he's involved in seems to turn out pretty good, even when it's something completely new to him, like record producing.
When he was fourteen, he wrote his first song and sold it to The Shadows after having had the sense to demo it after their style. Having mastered the guitar and scored quite a bit of acclaim for his playing, he turned to keyboards and now nobody hearing him play would think he hadn't been brought up on them. Argent reached the height of their success when he was with them, he gave Colin Blunstone a monster hit with I Don't Believe In Miracles and now Ride A Rock Horse is enjoying considerable favour. Its producer? Russ Ballard! The man, wearing his customary shades, exudes an air of quiet confidence. He can afford to. He's well respected as a musician and as a writer and he's now in a position many people could envy. After all, a singer of Daltrey's calibre doesn't call up just anybody and say "How about producing my album?"! What is really surprising is that Roger should ignore all the established record producers in favour of Russ, who has only ever produced one album before in his life and that was the solo one he made after leaving Argent.
How did his new role come about? "Well, I worked with Daltrey on his first album, played a little drums and piano on it, but I didn't produce that one, just put in some ideas. He must have liked them because when he was planning his second, he just asked me if I wanted to do it." Russ explained. In an issue of Beat dated April 1966, Daltrey himself described his voice in pretty disparaging terms. "I don't have a good voice, no-one needs to tell me that. I'm a screamer with a group and I'm happy. I'm not worried about my voice, though, it is developing and I can notice the change." He also added "I'd get a real kick if I could have a proper girl vocal group backing." It's taken nine years, but now he's achieved what he hoped for, a voice which no-one can deny is pretty exceptional, and backing singers led by Marsha Hunt, care of Russ Ballard! "I was involved with everything." said Russ. "Going through songs with him, deciding what musicians should be used, who would be good for this and who for that." For a reluctant producer, who admits that "I'm not really into production, even though it's a creative thing, I'd rather be an artist." Russ had some pretty definite ideas as to his treatment of the album. "I deliberately kept his voice well up because in so many recordings I've heard of Roger, he's been immersed in sound. He's got such a powerful and such a good voice which contains many aspects that people haven't heard before. What I set out to do on the album was to expose all those voices for the first time. I don't think it is a good thing for a producer to put his own standpoint on an album, the most important thing is to project the artist." Russ thinks that Daltrey's film work has given a lot more confidence and he also found getting to know him has radically changed the concept he had of The Who. "Many people would imagine Daltrey as an ego tripper, but he's not in the slightest. Before I got to know him well, I was under the impression that The Who were Pete Townshend's baby. But speaking to Roger, listening to his ideas, I think that a hell of a lot of his ideas must have always gone into The Who, a lot more than people think."
It was originally Roger's idea to record an album of his early influences. Then he changed rock horses in mid-stream. "By then we'd already recorded Walking The Dog and that Beachboys sounding song, so we were lumbered with them." The second idea was to project the different sides of Daltrey's voice in a collection of mixed rockers and ballads, including three songs of Russ's, Come And Get Your Love, Proud and Near To Surrender. "We didn't actually discuss the point but I felt he wanted to make a heavier album than the one we'd originally planned. Yet not totally heavy, but a record which would compliment the heavier stuff with lighter stuff. Right from the very first session when he sang the first song I could see his voice was so much better, I feel it's improved tremendously since the early Who days even though I think he had a good voice in 1964."
The next thing to decide on was the overall sound and the arrangements. Ex-Shadows drummer Tony Meehan was the man who worked on these. "I decided to make the sound quite sparse,-" explained Russ, "- rather than over-producing it. Some people just don't know where to stop. I decided that if a song called for piano and nothing else, that's what I was going to do." (Hence Phillip Goodhand Tait's beautiful slow rocker Oceans Away with the composer on piano.) "The most important thing in an arrangement is the song. If it's a good one you should be able to sing it with no backing at all and it should still sound great. If it's not, no matter how many extras you add it won't work." Russ reckons that having been in bands himself definitely helped him as a producer, enabling him to put himself in the artist's shoes. Yet he doesn't think he'd like to produce his own next album entirely alone. "When I was in Argent I found being produced by somebody else was very frustrating because I could tell people were veering away from the original ideas I'd had for my songs. That's why I decided to produce my first solo album, which turned out a bit of a mixture because I had a backlog of work to get out of my system. My next album will be slightly deeper, not so light-hearted. I hope to be co-producing it with Muff Winwood, whom I really admire because he's got such a good ear and can really make a musical point."
At the moment, Russ is doing very well with songs of his which are being covered by other artists. One called Heartbreak, has recently been recorded by Olivia Newton-John and yet another is currently being recorded in L.A. by Stevie Wonder's band. Russ has got a new band together consisting of the ex-drummer from Curly, Alan Wickett, bass player Tony Lester and guitarist Alan Skates- "He really does!" joked Russ. He's got three weeks booked in E.M.I. Studios to get the album done. As for his producing career, it looks like Ride A Rock Horse may be his swansong. What if Roger asks him to produce his third album? "Wellā€¦ if I want to do what I want to do, that is, sing, play, write and record, I just won't have time to produce anybody." said Russ. There's nothing like getting out when you're on top!
#russ ballard#interview#roger daltrey#ride a rock horse#1975#i'm assuming this was an article from around the time the album was out but before russ's winning album so i put 1975#i typed it all out as it showed it in the article except there wasn't a date so like. it's probably 75#it said 'how ballard learned to ride a rock horse' an d i keep laughing about it#anyway. crying at russ's humor#why is his humor always so adorable and like#'alan skates.' -'HE REALLY DOES'#does he russ#does he skate#does alan skate#(also you have two alans??)#it's like when he thought it was so funny to put 'love cliff richard but please don't tease' in god gave rock and roll to you#'i thought it was quite funny-' you sure did russ you beautiful man#or when he was talking about naming his 84 album 'russ ballard' and then was like 'russ balLARD' and then laughed#just saying his own name twice in different ways#sdgsjdhgsj god he's cute#also 'nothing like getting out when you're on top!' and then cut to the future where he produced more songs and albums for people#ALSOOOO stevie wonder's band??#what song was that and did it actually happen? i haven't found anything on that one yet#but anyway the very first words 'russ ballard has something special' you're absolutely right about that one#i need to point out how much i love how supportive he is of people and trying to find the good in things like#trying to point out roger's voice in different ways#although other times russ has also said he felt he was left alone with this album too much#with roger being gone on holiday and filming while russ was trying to work on it#and i can imagine the pressure of still being new to producing and then producing for a big name i mean like. wow i could never
