Harris ahead of Trump in fierce debate

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris forced her Republican rival Donald Trump to get defensive in a combative presidential debate, according to Reuters. (Updated 11 September at 11:20 a.m.)

A former prosecutor, Harris, 59, repeatedly prompted Trump, 78, to deliver a series of responses about his suitability for office, support for abortion restrictions, and legal challenges.

Eight weeks before the election and days before early voting begins in some states, the debate offered both candidates a rare opportunity to make their case to a television audience of tens of millions of voters. The candidates clashed on immigration, foreign policy, and health care, but the debate contained few specifics.

Instead, Harris managed to focus on Trump, leading her allies to cheer and some Republicans to acknowledge Trump’s challenges. He repeated his claim that his defeat in the 2020 election was due to fraud, called Harris a “Marxist” and argued that migrants have caused a surge in violent crime.

The candidates also traded accusations about the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, though neither gave specifics on how they would seek to end each conflict.

How it proceeded

The debate, hosted by ABC in Philadelphia, began at 01:00 GMT on Wednesday with a surprise handshake between the two opponents, who had never met before. Harris approached Trump at his lectern, introducing herself by name, marking the first handshake at a presidential debate since 2016.

The candidates began the debate by focusing on the economy, an issue that opinion polls showed favoured Trump. Harris criticised Trump’s intention to impose high duties on foreign goods, while praising her plan to give tax breaks to families and small businesses.

Harris lambasted Trump over his criminal conviction for hiding secret cash payments to a porn star, as well as other charges and a civil judgement finding him guilty of sexual assault. Trump denied guilt and again accused Harris and Democrats of orchestrating all of the cases without evidence.

The vice president delivered a lengthy criticism of abortion restrictions, speaking passionately about women who did not receive emergency care and incest victims who could not terminate their pregnancies because of state-level bans. She also stated that Trump would support a national ban.

Harris also tried to link Trump to Project 2025, a conservative political plan proposing to expand executive power, repeal environmental regulations, and make it illegal to transport abortion pills across state lines. Trump responded that he had “nothing to do” with Project 2025.

The meeting was particularly important for Harris, as opinion polls showed that more than a quarter of likely voters felt they did not know enough about her. She entered the race just seven weeks ago after President Joe Biden left office.

Presidential debates do not necessarily change voters’ minds, but they can carry profound implications. Biden’s poor performance against Trump in June forced him to abandon his campaign on 21 July.

Well, 2020 is about to end; so we’re not gonna dive in some bad moments and current plague that we all know, okay? 😉

Anyways I made a new summary for review techs and misc. items, but mostly techs stuff. 🙂 And this will be replaced for my “yearend artworks”. So, where’s your summary for artworks 2020 you asked? Well I decided to post my summary art to my 2nd tumblr account, so I won’t give you details because of… “Secrecy”.🤫

Nonetheless, here are my techs and items that I’ve done this year 2020. Some of which are my completed topic review, while others are continuing my topic(s) and some are my moments usage.

So without further ado, let’s get started:

JAN - My Cord Protector for my Remax 610D (Completed): My Remax 610D earphones are my best budget earphones I’ve ever used, so I need to install a wire protection back then. But it’s too bad that the left earbud worn out on Mar 16, 2020.

FEB - My Nyko Type Pad for PS4 (Ongoing): Last recorded on Mar 3, 2020, hopefully I will make my final remark someday. As for the main item itself, it’s still functional on my DualShock 4 V2 Controller.

MAR - My USB Hub 3.0 Mini Portable (Completed): It worked very well a months ago, until I accidentally broke and become useless. Which I’ll get to that later.

APR - My XP-Pen Deco 01 V2  (Ongoing): It’s my first budget medium sized drawing/graphics tablet, and I’m still using and enjoying it ever since. Although, there are so much things that I want to talk about. Only time will tell If I keep this going until the end.

MAY - My Silvertec Wireless Keyboard & Mouse Combo [SCKM-E111] (Completed): My mom purchased this awesome budget wireless keyboard and mouse combo for my birthday. And I’m still using it today.

JUN - My rear camera replacement for my Galaxy S4 [GT-I9505] (Completed): To this day I still missed my old Galaxy S4 so much, and this right here is one of my example moments. Replacing the old Galaxy S4 camera to a new one. Hopefully I will earn a new LED touch screen someday.

JUL - My Strontium Nitro A1 Micro SDXC Card 64GB (Completed): So far it functions really well through my Honor 8C. Hopefully I will get the larger 256GB on my future wish list. And yes, this is good budget micro SD card, for those who struggle to earn a expensive brand Micro SD Card.

AUG - Alternative internet access for limited (Aug 4, 2020): Last August of this year, we’re suffered a lost internet connection from our PLDT Home Fibr modem for the 2nd time. So we’ve provide some backup; only with a fraction of small cost.

SEPT - My TP-Link Archer T2U Nano AC600 USB Wifi Dongle (Completed) and My 8bitdo USB Wireless Adapter ‘PS Classic Edition’ (Completed): It’s a tough choice between my TP-Link Archer T2U Nano and my 8bitdo USB Wireless Adapter / Retro Receiver. There could be only one, but I ended up in a half photos, because they’re usable for me; one is connecting the internet with either 2.4G or 5G wifi hotspot(s), while the other is pairing with any wireless controller(s) per each retro receiver that avail and suitable their gaming taste. BTW: The original post for my 8bitdo USB wireless adapter retro receiver was on last August 28, 2020 on my secrecy blog, before I decided to post three parts on September.

OCT - Fixing ‘My USB Hub 3.0 Mini Portable’ using my soldering tools (Oct 24, 2020): Now here’s my post we’re I tried to fix my My USB Hub 3.0 Mini Portable. By applying soldering lead too much, it did not work very well; leaving my mini USB hub completely useless. Uh well, now I’m gonna find a better one.

NOV - My 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ Gamepad (Ongoing): So far, this is the most worthy 3rd party controller I’ve ever used than my previous 3rd party controllers; and it’s equally better to my DualShock 4 V2 Controller, due to symmetrical gamepad layout . There’s more topic about my 8bitdo gamepad came from, coming 2021.

In the previous essay I argued that the public sphere had been transformed by the advent of the digital era, but that the change was for the negative. Despite there being significant technological improvements that would naturally bring about a healthier public sphere, the vertical relationships described by Habermas (1989) in the public sphere between corporation and consumer had persisted in the transition from old to new media. This is because ultimately corporations such as Alphabet Inc., which have a history of buying up small companies by the bucket load (Hartmans and Meisenzahl, 2020); still impose vague terms of service that allow for absolutely control over the website’s content and algorithms that appeal to the reptilian reward centre of the brain.

Recontextualisation for the Internet Historian

As with the posts on Goffman’s presentation of the self. It was important to fit the theory into the digital context so Harold and the Internet Historian can be best understood through the idea of the transformed public sphere. This is why he is only being mentioned now.

I discussed in a previous post that Harold is an anonymous figure. He consists entirely of what is best describes as an ‘online persona’, or social front. This means when looking at his place within the public sphere it is difficult to assign him a ‘class’ value, which has been key in determining the health and nature of the public sphere. He is an entertainer, and not in a real position of power as we might associate with the corporate directors and publishers of the 20th century. This indeterminate nature of his character and class status is interesting within the recontextualised ideas of Habermas’ public sphere as anonymity would typically signal that you don’t have much of a vested interest in the affairs of public concern.

Advertisement

Due to the advent of the ‘adpocalypse’ on YouTube (Alexander, 2019), many YouTube content creators have taken to making in-video sponsorships that do not require the approval of the YouTube monetisation system. This cuts out the middle man and allows creators to make more money without the fear of having their videos demonetised or a loss of revenue from a false copyright claim.

On the downside, in-video sponsorships are rather exclusive and are not available to creators with a small following in return for pocket change. This however, is not an issue for Harold as a very successful online persona with 2.74 million subscribers on his primary channel as of January 2021 and it is something that he makes use of in all of his videos.

Habermas describes advertisement as an example of the vertical relationship in the public sphere; the king talking to his subject. A dictation of what is, essentially. This is an easy relationship to establish with an example of traditional advertising, as seen below:

This piece of traditional advertising for the hair cream popular in the 1950′s is typical of advertisement from that time. This particular piece was likely found in a newspaper or magazine. It doesn’t use humour in any way, it contains a title, text and an image of a rather joyous man who is clearly a user of this product. The piece exists simply to preach to the quality of Brylcreem and extoll the many virtues of its users. The public sphere relationship is between the advertiser and the consumer; it is an absolute truth being dictated to the consumer and this is the vertical relationship that is not healthy for the public sphere’s benefit.

Unlike traditional advertisement, Internet Historian takes a radically different approach. Most interestingly, he takes the in-video advertisements and incorporates them into the style and humour of the video. For example, in the video below Harold is providing an advertisement for the wireless earphone company RayCon.

In the video advertisement, Harold creates a fictional character called ‘Ray Con Man’ and gives him a backstory about how his father was killed after being beheaded by wired earphones caught on a tree’s twig, (the joke lies in the fact Ray Con earphones are wireless) and that this spurred him on a mission to destroy all wires. 

There is a great difference between traditional advertisement and the form of advertisement seen here. "Critics have blamed advertising for for manipulating people, creating and instilling false needs and values, promoting materialism, perpetuating stereotypes, and presenting a world of consumption sheltered from social problems” (Sandikci, 2004). This could definitely be said about traditional advertising, but is it true of the advertisement within Harold’s videos?

The case isn’t very strong, on the contrary, the advertising seen in Harold’s videos is one that is laden with irony and it could be argued as being an attempt to humorously parody mainstream advertisement in a way that will fit in with the overall comedy of the video; the ultimate goal being to entertain his audience.

What I like?

After my use for almost a year I can tell the Bass and Sound Quality of the earphones is good, and it works on Bluetooth 5.0. The size and Fit is fairly good with a small ear hook kind of design which protects it from falling down easily. It has a very sensitive touch button which sometime is annoying as you can’t hold it while playing a music or video it just stops. Another good thing about this is battery life which can easily last for 4–5hr of continuous music each time until it needs to be charged(claimed time is 10–12hrs playtime on single charge and 200hrs with case) or video depending on the volume you play. The case is fairly compact but not a small one as it contain as 2000ah battery. Wireless charging is supported but I have not yet tested it. Led indicators to show remaining battery percentage on case. Supports AptX and AAC. In ear detection seems to be working 80% of the time. It comes in only one colour.

What I dislike?

The headset as published may have 4 mics but does not help with the noise cancellation, ambient noise or environmental noise is captured more than our voice which many people noticed. The price may be bit high compared to the competition. Overall build quality can be improved.
