My Best of 2023: My Top 5 Non-2023 Books

1. The Count of Monte Cristo (Alexandre Dumas, 1844)

2. No Country For Old Men (Cormac McCarthy, 2005)

3. Britt-Marie Was Here (Fredrik Backman, 2016)

4. In the Miso Soup (Ryū Murakami, 2003)

5. The Storyteller (Dave Grohl, 2021)

Note: These were chosen from the 10 Non-2021/Non-King books I read in 2022. (Low, I know, but once again I got caught up in new releases.) Same as previous years, Stephen King gets his own Top 5. The only Classic I managed was The Count of Monte Cristo, which was epic and took up pretty much my entire January. My first two reads for 2024 are Lonesome Dove and Don Quixote, so hopefully I'll get in the trend of reading more Classics throughout the rest of this coming year.

I kinda wish making fun of people for being "picky eaters" or just hating certain foods was less of a thing because like... some of us have weird sensitivities to some textures or specific reasons to dislike some foods that we can't do much about and I kinda can't help but get a little offended every time someone makes fun of me for say, not being able to stomach 99.99% of soups. I just can't do savory tastes with puree or liquidy textures. I will actually feel nauseous if I eat it and might even actually throw up. So idk maybe mind your business or something. I just kinda don't appreciate being made fun of for something so fucking stupid and inconsequential

Like not even "how dare you dislike this food it's HEAVENLY it is like MAKING OUT WITH GOD on a CLOUD MADE OF ECSTASY", not even as a joke unless they are clearly cool with it. because idk maybe they just have a reason. Doesn't matter what their reason is. Maybe they don't have one. That's not your business either

This isn't even about ability to take a joke, it's about "you're being fucking annoying and insensitive and should probably cut it out"

If you live in Poco or Burnaby, you seriously need to visit Sushi On. This is hands down my favourite sushi place that's relatively close even though I live in Coquitlam.

My haul today from a couple book stores, Penny lane, and a walgreens for the hair spray.

Currently 19 pages into ‘In the Miso Soup’ and enjoying the writing style so far. In a real horror kick lately.

The big clothespin is a booklight! And I got 3 new pairs of sunglasses because the sun and snow have been giving me migraines lol.

scriunged around in my bag for enough change for two packages of miso soup,, bc i’ll be damned if i buy food at work. one spinach feta wrap is $4.54 with my discount and one package of miso soup with three packets was $3.79. better budgeting both ways
