Vol.2 of mashing all my bbgs into one post

Got my hands on a Ultra Analysis BNHA book from a library

Some points I liked (I focused more on 1B since they don't get a lot of attention)

1B once had a Tetsutetsu BBQ. They heated him up and cooked food on him. He proceeds to ruin it when he declares his sweat is the salt to their food

Yui is canonically the prettiest first-year

Mineta has no sex appeal at all, but he thinks being a hero will make him lucky

Class B does respect Monoma. He's sharp-minded, witty, and has a way with words

Monoma sometimes wanders into 1A's dorm just to throw down a mean speech, and heads back to 1B

Juzo probably isn't helping Monoma's confrontations with 1A, since he just always asks him why he can't say it to their faces whenever Monoma complains about them

Shiozaki tries to be polite even in a fight

Pony hosts anime parties, so 1B knows a lot about anime. Vice-versa, they teach her Japanese, and everything nasty is Monoma's fault

Tokage was a gyaru

Tsuburuaba, Kaibara, and Kuroiro get worked up whenever they talk about girls

Manga likes Kenranzaki

Awase's family runs a small factory. He also restrains Monoma whenever Kendo isn't available

1B likes hearing Rin say "Aiyah", so he does it for them

Kamakiri is obsessed with cutting into things

Class B's play was really successful

Tamaki is scared of Kirishima's energy

1C was planning a send-off party for Shinsou for his upcoming hero transfer. They didn't doubt he would make it, ever since the Sports Festival

Shishikura (meatball Shiketsu boy) might've chosen Shiketsu because he likes the uniform's hat

Nakagame and Yo are dating

Tsuyu's family gets to spend a lot of time together now, since their parents' busy jobs have calmed down

Tsubasa (devil wing kid in Midoriya's memories) suspiciously lost touch with Midoriya and Bakugo in middle school (his Wiki page confirms Garaki - his grandfather - turned him into a Nomu)

Torino likes goofy gags. This rubs off on All Might (ex. when Midoriya thought he died when Torino fell with ketchup. People don't know whether to laugh or be concerned)

Nighteye has yellow streaks in his hair as a homage to All Might

Nezu likes worming into tight, dark places, so he likes Aizawa's scarf. They went into detail, describing why Nezu likes it, such as material to crawling in, etc.

Recovery Girl has to travel around Japan regularly to help people with her Quirk (as in, she uses her Quirk to help them. Healing Quirks are SO rare)

Hojo, Tabe, and Sestuno are kept in the same jail, so at least they're not separated

I saw a booktuber do a video of these questions and I really liked them, so thought that I could answer them here! Credit goes to bookslikewhoa & thoughtsontomes on youtube. Feel free repost and add your own answers!

In total I read 22 series in some shape or form:

I read and completed 8 series this year (meaning I read books 1 -> the end)

I finished/wrapped up 3 series this year (meaning I was waiting on a sequel to be released)

I started 15 series (whether I finished them or not)

I caught up with 0 series

I continued with 1 series

I DNF'ed 6 (maybe 7) series

1.What is the best series that you caught up with this year that is still a work in progress? Emily Wilde series by Heather Fawcett, the last book comes out early next year. (maybe the Saint of Steel series too, but it's not confirmed if T Kingfisher is writing more)

2.What is the best completed series that you are still catching up with? Technically Discworld since I read Equal Rites over the summer, but I'm really taking my time with the Discword books, and only reading them very sporadically

3.What was your favorite first book in a series this year? Daughter of the Forest no doubt. It's an amazing book, and could work as a standalone too.

4.What is a first book in a series you read this year that you think should have been a standalone, not a series? An Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors, but really the first book tells a completed story. It seems like the other books are just a new adventure for the characters. So I feel like this only half counts as an answer. I enjoyed reading it, but didn't feel the need to continue.

5.What is your most over-hyped series of the year? A Winter's Promise by Christelle Dabos. I was expecting this to be a new favorite, but I was so bored reading it :(

6.What is a series that you DNFed this year? The Stardust Thief, another one I was expecting to love, but I just could not get into it.

7.What was your favorite series finale of the year? The Bloody Throne which is the last book in the Hostage of Empire series. There was such a good buildup to this book and the events at the end.

8.What was the biggest cliffhanger you had in a series this year? Maybe the end of Blade Breaker by Victoria Aveyard? But I might dnf this series-- I don't even really remember what happened at the end, other than it was a cliffhanger.

9.What is your most anticipated next book in a series that you read this year that will come out next year? The next book in the Wayward Children series comes out in January 2025. I'm so glad I caught up with this series last year.

10.What is your most anticipated series to catch up with? I didn't read any Tracy Deonn books this year, but I am so excited for Oathbound next year!

11.What was your favorite series that you finished this year? Sevenwaters series by Juliet Mariller. Each book was so fulfilling and satisfying and lovely.

12. What is the most surprising series you liked this year? I really wasn't sure what I would think of A Memory Called Empire duology, I suspected I would either love it or hate it. I loved it, so that's what I'm going with for this question.

13.What is a series you finally bailed on after holding onto it for a long time? I read the first two Realm Breaker books early in 2024, and I've been going back and forth on whether I wanted to try and read the last book, but I really don't think I am. I barely remember what happened in the first books.

14.What is the series you meant to catch up with or finish this year that you didn't? None really! I either completed series or dnf'd them!

15.What is a series you finished or caught up with this year that you think is greater than the sum of its parts? Probably Chrestomanci. I over all enjoyed the books, but not on the same level as HMC series. I enjoyed several of the Chrestomanic books, but a few of the books I didn't care much for.

you know, I think what I really appreciate about Pang and Jan is that sometimes you meet people who you might not be that into at first but once you get to know them better, you realize that you're quite a good match. They decided to take a chance with each other and that's really cool!

WHAT MORE CAN I ASK FOR? THIS IS A WONDER! MORE THAN THAT IT HAS BEEN PURE FACT!

There are so many fics that pose situations that could very well be canon because that's how amazing fic writers are. And this story manages to go beyond that! Not only could this have been canon, but it even fills in gaps.

It's not one of those reads that you can read in one sitting, but the change is welcome this time. I've had to take breaks and breathe to digest fragment by fragment. Many truths are said, and even if we know them or agree with them, they still leave food for thought.

The narration has been divine, easy to follow given how direct it is, it doesn't go too far to be lyrical but rather takes you by the hand along a path that, although familiar, has not been traveled for a long time.

Arthur is his best version, I admit, he is the man who I would not hesitate to say is the king of the once and future. This would be the Arthur we should have been given for the last few seasons if he hadn't gone through so much trauma. (The one in this fic is also very traumatized, but he retains the growth that his arc foreshadows.)

Merlin is a secondary character and yet I LOoooooVE that he was the best of his facets. The playful one that Arthur knows and the solemn one that has seen more than most souls see. They stole that from him in favor of a plot that they repeated from episode one to the end, without understanding that at some point he had the right and deserved to converge to everything that makes him who he is and not just parts scattered between one life and the secret other.

The dialogues are not tiring at all. One would say that reading something that one already knows by heart would bore one, but the author of this fic manages to prevent that from happening, keeping everything as if it were a fairy tale For adults, fascinating but sober. What a great balance to achieve that!

And the little details like physical contact or gestures that speak loudly to each other because there is no one who knows them better. Brilliant.

Lancelot my man as always the most perfect

The relationship analogy with Gwen. Well. I don't even know how to express how satisfying it was to have someone put into words what I sensed as well. The part where he says he would love her like a husband loves To his wife, but Merlin is something else. BRILLIANT!!!

I don't know how to get over this story now. I would read the whole rest of the golden age with this Merlin and Arthur being Fair rulers and in love and I would be happy.
