528. Various Authors - Dragonlance Tales Volume 1: The Magic of Krynn (1987)
Tumblr media
The first volume in the first Tales trilogy (there would be more Tales series), The Magic of Krynn is an anthology of short stories (and some longer ones), exploring the world of Krynn and often filling in gaps in the stories we already know while in other cases actually advancing the stories of some of the main characters we came to know and love.
Tumblr media
The biggest attractions in this volume are the two tales told by the original Dragonlance novelists, with Margaret Weis contributing "The Test of the Twins" which, much as in a previous, lesser developed, Dragon Magazine short-story, tells us of Raistlin's test in the Tower of High Sorcery and the toll this took on himself and Caramon, his twin.
Tumblr media
The longest tale in the volume is by Weis and Tracy Hickman who in "The Legacy" introduce us to "Dragonlance: The Next Generation" as the children of Caramon and Tika deal with their family history and we get to pick up on what happened to Raistlin and everyone after the Legends trilogy. Tales like "Finding the Faith" fill in gaps in the Chronicles trilogy and overall the other stories are generally entertaining if you are into the world of Krynn, which I certainly am.

If i understand the online gossip correctly, recently at Gencon Margaret Weis confirmed that a rumor circulating for years is true- Larry Elmore did pay a male stripper to model for the cover of one of the Darksword Trilogy books.
Between that and the unfamous Raistlin snake-bondage illustration (for the Dark Queen Of Krynn video game), it has become more urgently alarming that there is no bizzarely skimpy Haplo official art.
The grave task of remedying this fatal oversight has been left to me...
LUCKILY, I AM VERY GAY.

The way Patryn runes offer total protection, surely some runners would favour more.... minimalistic armors, right?

"I am pleased to see you.” “And I am pleased to see you, Revered Daughter,” he said in that mocking voice that grated on her nerves. “But my name is not Raistlin.” She stared at him, flushing even more now in her embarrassment. “Forgive me,” she said, looking intently at his face, “but you reminded me strongly of someone I know— once knew.” “Perhaps this will clear up the mystery,” he said softly. “My name, to those around here, is Fistandantilus.” Crysania shivered involuntarily, the lights in the room seemed to darken. “No,” she said, shaking her head slowly, “that cannot be! You came back ... to learn from him!” “I came back to become him,” Raistlin replied. “But... I’ve heard stories. He’s evil, foul—” She drew away from Raistlin, her gaze fixed on him in horror. “The evil is no more,” Raistlin replied. “He is dead.” “You?” The word was a whisper. “He would have killed me, Crysania,” Raistlin said simply, “as he has murdered countless others. It was my life or his.” “We have exchanged one evil for another,” Crysania answered in a sad, hopeless voice. She turned away. I am losing her! Raistlin realized instantly.

Hi!
Do you, by any chance, have top 5 whumpy books or stories? :D
I hope you have a wonderful day!! o((*^▽^*))o💖
Hmmm... yeah, I do!
The Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. Ik I talk about this series a lot but it's so good and also has a lot of whump. The first book, Dragon Wing, literally starts with a character imprisoned and on the way to his execution. There's also poison whump, another character is introduced basically on his deathbed, abuse, captivity, someone almost gets eaten by a dragon, it's great.
The Legend of Drizzt by R.A. Salvatore. I cannot stress how good this book series is and also the amount of whump in the first two books alone is insane. The first book is mainly physical and mental abuse with the average amount of adult fantasy book violence and not a small amount of named character deaths. Second book is a lot of environmental with a fair amount of captivity and being hunted.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. Not an insignificant amount of mind control/illusion whump, along with sickness whump, gunshot wounds, and general violence and murder (mainly starting in book 2).
Vicious by V.E. Schwabe. My current read! Lots of whump, mainly people getting shot with a bit of hero/villain and superpower stuff.
Beyonders by Brandon Mull. Literally starts with an imprisoned character. Lots of captivity whump, a bit of magic whump in there too, with a couple hints of zombies and a guy who can literally pull himself apart (not necessarily whump but I think it's super cool)
Most of these are fantasy books, that's where my reading tastes are. The Lunar Chronicles is scifi and Vicious is supernatural, which are basically subsets of that same genre lol.

446. Douglas Niles and Tracy Hickman - DL11: Dragons of Glory (1986)
Tumblr media
A unique addition to the Dragonlance series of modules, this eleventh entry in the series is not really a continuation of the adventure of our gang of mismatched heroes but a parallel board game. Similarly to the recent fifth edition "Warriors of Krynn" board game that was supposed to be played in conjunction with the Shadow of the Dragon Queen campaign, this entry is actually a board game that is supposed to determine how the wider War of the Lance is going.
Tumblr media
It's interesting that we would get this game in parallel to the already existing Battlesystem wargame, but Dragons of Glory is supposed to determine the war at an even larger scale, at the scale of the whole continent, with players moving whole armies around the map instead of being a skirmish battle.
Tumblr media
In fact you could play Dragonlance at three levels, the micro level of the roleplaying adventure, a middle level of Battlesystem local battles and a macro level where you would use this game to determine positions of whole armies and war advancement across the continent of Ansalon. If, for example, your roleplaying party happens to be in some location where this game determines there is an active Dragon Army, this should then influence the micro roleplaying action. For this reason you get a massive map and a load of counters bundled with this set as well as rules for this board game. Not sure if anyone actually used this as it seems hard to manage as well as demanding that you get your friends together for yet another game!
