Headcanon that Nezha didn't fit in well w/ the heavenly court and sometimes spoke out against prideful / arrogant deities. It’s not like he picked a fight everyday, but I can’t imagine him spending time with anyone outside his immediate circle.

Acting out obviously got him punished or scolded at (If not from Li Jing then other officials), but complaints against him were usually waved off.

(Also- with the way the soldiers were disobeying Nezha’s orders during S4’s attack on heaven, guarding the map alone for 500+ years probably didn’t help him develop a good relationship with the heavenly army.

He’s their marshal, but he’s not their marshal)

How do the courts react to Haoyu? I mean, this is the youngest stone monkey in existence and also looks like, in Pigsy's words "a Lisa Frank" piece and a mixture of Spicynoodles, so...

Haoyu arrives + Royal court confusion.

For those confused by the "Lisa Frank" comment; Haoyu has been imbedded with the power of the Five Heavenly (or Five-Coloured) Stones, and comes out with bits of rainbows in his features - notably his eyes. Add in Red Son's absorbed life energy, and you've got a ginger-furred baby monkey (reference pic is a langur) who sneezes rainbow fire.

The celestial and demon courts are jubilant, if not very confused. Haoyu's birth is the greatest news all of the Celestial Realm has had in months since the passing of the Jade Emperor. But the knowledge that the parents of said child is the Emperor's recently-recognised half-bull grandson + the surprise stone monkey successor of Sun Wukong = makes everyone baffled at the same time.

The Queen Mother has gone all out on the celebration ever since she learned that both parent and baby were safe and healthy. She's been planning the whole event for at least five weeks. Xiwangmu's great-grandson is the shining light of the universe as far as she's concerned!

MK shows up to the royal birth announcement wearing sweatpants cus monkey boy be exhausted. Red Son appears in traditional court attire, happily showing off MK and the baby like they both didn't just roll out of bed that morning. Also his big royal robe makes a great impromptu blanket once the three of them become too tired with the festivities.

Haoyu himself is still in "will not stop clinging to mom or will scream"-stage of development. So if a hard-headed noble or servant tried to take the baby off of MK; they get hit with the loudest screeching a barely-1-pound baby monkey can make. And a near-death experience courtesy of all baby's protective family members. MK has to stop Xiwangmu from reflexively tossing the offender off a cloud.

Many of the celestials and trusted demons of the party at first assume Sun Wukong and the Six Eared Macaque to be MK's parents, only to be shocked to be introduced to a stout pig-man and a gangly human scholar.

Tang, proudly: "He takes more after me, as you can see." MK & Pigsy: (*fond sighs*)

Wukong and Macaque still proudly refer to Haoyu as their "grand-student". Especially Macaque ever since the baby saw his real ears and started making his own wiggle and glow as some sort of wordless communication - Mei calls it "baby rave mode".

DBK is trying his best not to cry or explode out of his clothing. Haoyu isn't even the size of a human baby, and the old Bull sobs whenever he sees him. Haoyu loves his big purple Yeye Bull, and has started doing little calf-headbutts to greet him. DBK would destroy heaven itself for this little orange puffball.

DBK and Xiwangmu have also come to a tentative agreement; even though the Queen Mother didn't approve of the method in which DBK and PIF eloped, he's still the better of her son-in-laws (Li Jing has been kicked down the celestial food chain ever since the incident with the Stones).

PIF is busy making her presence known since this is her first time presenting to the celestial court in centuries. She's worse than Red for showing off MK and the baby; bragging to any curious ear that dare listens.

PIF, talking to another noblewoman: "Well clearly Xiaotian and my son would produce the first great-grandchild! Red Son has had an infatuation for the boy ever since they met!" Red Son, embarrassed: "Mother!" MK, laughing: "Aww!! Babe! You had a crush on me?" Red Son: "MK, we're legally married with a baby." MK, giggling: "Still!"

Nezha's hackles are raised, watching over MK's shoulder like a guard dog. Not only keeping to his duty as Protector of Children - but also because part of the ceremony is him giving Haoyu his 100-day blessing (his Man Yue was a lot smaller and personal). It's a big deal for him. Erlang thankfully provides him some backup. At least the little guy isn't keen on being anywhere not attached to his parents anytime soon.

At the end of the day Mei and the rest of the Noodle Gang manage to distract the party so MK and Red can get out of there and relax. it's been a busy day for these two, and an even bigger one for the baby.

Xiwangmu goes searching for them frantically after noticing her Grandson and Grandson-in-law missing from the party. She finds them curled up in their guest room with little Haoyu snoring away between them. She quietly grants them her blessing and leaves the three sleep on. Her little rainbow quartz has a big universe to see.

“You know, kitten is just the Cat term for baby. So Azure is literally calling you babe.”

Mei is a menace, is the conclusion that Jing comes to. It’s after the battle against The Nine Tailed Vixon (aka Jin and Yin’s mom)

-and honestly, Li Jing wished he’d just gone home. But the Monkie kid had insisted they all share an after battle victory lunch. Jing didn’t have the heart to say no, especially when he noticed the way Nezha’s eyes brightened. He was trying to be better, so he had reluctantly agreed. Now he was very much regretting it.

“And this is relevant to me, because…?”

Mei grinned, and happily sat down next to him at the bar. “Sooooo, what do you call him?”

That caught some attention, and a certain six-eared snitch leaned over across from where nezha was seated at Jing’s right.

“Yes Jing, what do you call Azure?”

Jing gave another sigh, and set his chopsticks on his now empty bowl. The food was good, and Nezha was looking at him both wearily and curiously, so maybe he could humor them just a little.

“For your information, I call him by his name.”

They both rolled their eyes, and Wukong casually popped up behind him. Wait- oh no, he’s surrounded. He shouldn’t have entertained this!

“Come ooooon Jing’s! Surely you got a cute nickname for your pretty lion!”

“Well, I’m sorry to disappoint.”

Mei hummed, and then grinned. “Well, then we’ll help you come up with one!”

“That won’t be necessary. Azure and I are fine.”

“Nope!”

“Oh this is gonna be good.”

Jing just sighed, and watched Nezha out the corner of his eye. The prince was currently engaged in conversation with the monkey boy, who was behind the counter. Jing allowed him to take his empty bowl, Nezha doing the same. At least one of them was having fun.

“Oh! I know!” Jing suppressed a groan, and turned to look at Mei with a single brow raised. “How about… whiskers!”

A beat of silence followed, before Jing have a small chuckle. “He doesn’t have whiskers.”

“What?! Come on what cat doesn’t have whiskers-!”

“Ok, my turn.” The dark monkeys smirk did not inspire confidence, and Jing did not trust him in the slightest. He was the one who told everyone in the first place, so who knows what kind of history he’d put into—

“How about Eggless?” A moment of silence again. The others looked confused, but Jing just gave Macaque his best unimpressed look. It didn’t work, by the way Macaques grin free. It seemed to click for Wukong, and he started outright laughing. The others still seemed confused.

“Why??” Came MKs confused question. Did they not- oh heavens Jing wanted to just melt into the floor and die. He did not meet Nezha’s curious gaze, nor Mei’s prodding. Macaque, the bastard, just cackled.

“Let’s just say there’s a reason Jing likely never got pregnant.”

Jing, Mk and Mei turned to Macaque, their eyes wide and baffled. Nezha himself just cringed, realizing what direction the topic was going towards.

“Wait- but- he’s a guy??” Macaque patting MK’s head with a smile, ruffling his hair.

“Celestials and demons work differently than human mortals. Yes, he absolutely could have.”

There was a long silence, and Jing just stared at Macaque with growing horror. Macaque seemed to sense it, and he actually looked concerned now, as did Wukong.

“Wait, Jing, you are aware of that little tidbit, right?”

“I- I was born human though-“

“But now you’re a celestial, it changed your biology…. Jing, you knew pregnancy was a possibility right?”

Jings silence said it all. Mei tried to break the tensions with an akward laugh, putting an arm around him casually. “Well, now at least we know azure can’t do it…. Right?”

“I’ve heard of people who get suprise babies even after vasectomies, so it’s not unheard of.”A certain chef walked by, sharing that little tidbit before yelling at mk to get back to work. As everyone sorta scatter, Jing was left with his thoughts. And Nezha. He just stared at the table, realizing now the absolute disaster he likely avoided all this time.

“Father?” Nezha managed to get Jing attention, and he looked concerned. “Even if it was possible, you took precautions right?”

As I've alluded to this in past posts, Wukong only has children with you so he can have control over you.

But once one of your children starts having a romantic interest?

There's something that snaps inside of him.

He suddenly becomes extremely overprotective of your children, growls are their partners and will tell the love interest he doesn't approve of them dating his baby princess/prince.

If you are able to stop him following after your child while they are on their date, he will be grumbling while you rub his head.

Macaque

Similar to Wukong, something will snap deep inside of him.

"Your- Your boy/girlfriend?"

Will stalk your child on their date, will stalk the romantic interest back to their him, will learn everything about them.

If he finds out that the partner does anything, even something small like not washing their hands after going to the bathroom, he will tell your child they aren't allowed to date them.

It is extremely hard to get his permission to date any of his children.

MK

It will fly over his head when he first learns of it and does the slowest double-take.

Will be like days later when he's shopping as his smile just drops from his face as he goes "Wait hold on-"

Rushes home(after paying of course), barging into the house with tears in his eyes "MY BABY IS DATING?!"

Nezha

I don't think Nezha will ever be ready for any of their children to have a romantic life. Emotionally, anyway.

I think Nezha would have a rule where their children aren't allowed to date until their coming-of-age ceremonies(Apparently it's called The Guan Li for men and Ji Li for women and from what I can tell the ages are between 15-20).

Are you aware of the Dugger family? If you are, you might be aware that the father has a quiz the would-be sons-in-law have to do before they can date his daughters. I feel as if Nezha would do this too. However, if there is even one answer he doesn't like then it's a no.

Nezha will insist on sitting through all the dates to make sure their little lotus is safe and happy.

Unlike the others on this list though, if the child expresses to Nezha that they really do like the person and want to date them, Nezha is going to let go and let them date. They watch from afar and make sure their child is safe, but they will let their Lotus bloom.

i miss them so much(spoilers ahead)

if they were in the modern world, altan and rin would wear glasses and everyone would make fun of them. they would actually have abysmal eyesight even though they are super cool warriors.

also modern world; altan would be so technologically illiterate that everyone would make fun of him. hes like a grandpa, and rin (+ ramsa) would be obsessed with her phone. this is the only place nezha and altan would agree on!!! neither can use their phones and would have to ask rin and chaghan/the cike to help

altan and rin squabble like siblings over the dumbest stuff and then get over it in the next hour after swearing to everyone that they hate each other and would never talk to each other again. -> everyone is sick of their shit

conversely, nezha and altan also love fighting over shit!! altan mistrusts nezha bc.. yk, and nezha does not trust altan bc.. yk!! and rin is so done with them and she starts arguing with them too

Another opportunity for me to ramble? Don't mind if I do 🤭

Be mindful, this is all based on my opinion and observation of Li Jing's character in LMK. You aren't meant to take my word to heart, nor do I disapprove of anyone else's ideas or opinions. Relax.

Regarding a mortal s/o: since we don't know much about Li Jing pre-s5 events, I would think he'd find flaw in anything Nezha did, including his choice in partners. In the grand scheme of things, it really wouldn't matter if Nezha's s/o was a mortal. Immortal, demon, mortal, etc, if they were Nezha's partner, Li Jing would always have a complaint.

Now post s5, I would think he'd be more lenient. I think he'd probably be concerned, actually, because if Nezha's s/o is a mortal of all things, things might only end badly, because well. Nezha's an immortal who will never die, and his partner is mortal and prone to die at many moment. At best, he might advise Nezha not to get too attached for his own sake.

If you're asking about my thoughts on Li Jing, then oh boy buckle up because there's a lot.

Also, be mindful; I'm aware creative liberty exists. When you're taking inspiration from myths and legends, you are allowed to do as you wish. Furthermore, I'm aware that Lego Monkie Kid is catered to an audience that are children, despite the active adult audience, hence why it is the way it is. Don't come to argue with me bringing these up as facts, because I'm stating my opinion while being mindful of these reasons.

1) I think he would've worked better as a villain. When the trailer was first released, I really thought he'd be interesting as a villain. From what I've read of FSSY Li Jing, he gives me the idea of a greedy, ambitious man who would go to lengths for power, aka where he had no remorse when Nezha killed himself. Working with Xiangliu wouldn't seem to far off for him, and I could've seen in the end where he's double-crossed and realizes Xiangliu's true intentions.

2) I don't think he acted as an antagonist in the show. When he first showed up, yeah you'd think he was evil, but aside from placing the circlet on Wukong and attempting to imprison them until things had changed, he didn't seem like a bad guy to me. An asshole yeah, but not a bad guy. MK only sees Li Jing as a bad guy because of the circlet, and Mei saw him as a villain because of his attitude and persistence. Aside from that, I don't think he was a villain, which the fans seems keen on thinking for some reason.

Understand this; Wukong in LMK is most notorious through the celestial realm for causing problems. Unlike in JTTW, he does NOT accept the title of a Buddha, which means we have no idea what he could be up to with no rules to stop him. Yes, we the audience know he's mellowed out, but in world, not many do. Wukong also has a habit of acting impulsively and wrecking things, like we see with his confrontation with Nezha in s3. It's not his fault sometimes yeah, but he does act recklessly, and Li Jing does what he thinks is necessary for the world. That doesn't make him a bad guy, and his attitude is him just doing his job.

3) His (and Nezha's) lack of screentime was disappointing. Even though the show revolves around MK and others, I personally think a scene with Li Jing and Nezha alone, maybe in the celestial realm, would've helped give more insight to his character. He appears to stop the group and then fight later on, and that's it, so all we know about him is a guy doing his duty and was an ass to his son and then suddenly changed.

4) I don't like how he's written in regards to his relationship with Nezha. The sudden switch up in the ending was off-putting, and like I said, the lack of screentime made it harder to decipher their relationship. I know that the writers couldn't potray Li Jing to his FSSY counterpart, and I do understand that Li Jing had his own responsibilities, but Jesus I hated that switch up. It didn't have much impact at all, and it didn't really sell the part of a strict but loving father.

I dunno, I felt like it could've had more impact if Nezha and his dad got enough screentime together for the audience to understand what the relationship was. We don't know how they were before season 5, and we have no idea what LMK might've tried to change with Nezha's origin story, so aside from their interactions, we don't know what to think. Do we still apply FSSY to their story, implying that Li Jing was an abusive father to Nezha in his childhood? Or do we assume this version of Li Jing was simply a father who didn't know how to show affection and was always strict?

5) Li Jing should not have been added. I'm dead serious about this; his entire role feels pointless because aside from doing his duty, why the fuck was he here? I dunno about other fans, but reading JTTW and FSSY, Li Jing placing that circlet on Wukong was not very interesting to me. Also, why the hell was he chosen to handle the Jade Emperor's power, and not someone with close relations to that old geezer, like...you know...ERLANG SHEN!? WHY WAS LI JING HERE HE FELT SO USELESS.

There could've been so many other characters who could've fit into the role Li Jing played. I really don't think he had much of an impact because again, the lack of screentime makes it hard to really understand what his motives lied.

I like Li Jing as a character, but idk. I don't think I'm fond of how Li Jing was portrayed in the series.

Just my opinion though. You guys can think as you'd like of him.

I was reading some articles about the Samadhi fire, and from what I understand, not only Redboy, but Nezha, Muzha and Jinzha can also use it. And it is said that anyone who has cultivated in the fire mountain can use it. If samadhi fire is the only thing that can kill Sun Wukong, why didn't Nezha use that technique against him? (or does he use it?) or is it one of those situations where a character has said power but it is not mentioned in other media?

So the best way I’ve seen people talk about this power is that it depends on which version you are reading. Nezha and Erlang said to have used this fire and other source material such as FSYY but they don’t seem to have that same power in Xiyouji.

A friend of mine actually was talking about this so I am going to go off what they told me. In JTTW, Erlang had not been described as a fire user, but Nezha is, and during the battle with Bull Demon King, he used his flaming wheel and its "True Fire" to burn the demon. "True Fire" is also an internal alchemy thing, a kind of shapeless fire ignited by the "Spiritual Mind" to refine one's Qi. Chronologically, FYSS was published after JTTW and certainly took some inspiration from it (like Yuanhong, leader of the Seven Demons of Plum Mountain who's also a staff-wielding monkey with transformation powers) It kinda has the most well-known version of Nezha's origin story compared to JTTW's barebones one.

So the best I could tell you is that either the different versions give him this power or they simply do not use this power in combat for the sake of narrative purposes. FSYY's settings very different to how Xiyouji was set up and thus also shows how different these novels are with how the author portrays their characters depending on who they are fighting and for what purpose.

Nezha couldn't have had the Samadhi fire in Xiyouji (or at least not to use it) because it destroys the narrative purpose of Wukong fighting Nezha at the start and the impact of his fight with Red Boy.

Out of story reason - Li Nezha wasn't given this power yet

In story reason - Red Boy has to use 4 carts and punched himself in the face to activate his Samadhi fire, a lot of prep work. It could be that Nezha was not able to have a similar prep work with Wukong (whatever that may be) and thus didn't have time or a chance to use it.

CONTENT UPDATE REGARDING NEZHA

Whew, between drama involving a second predator being revealed in my server and gathering the proper evidence, it's been quite the hectic few days.

I noticed a disturbing trend among these two...and that's that they both were simps for Li Nezha. As such I will no longer be posting or writing romantic content for Nezha. I do not want to attract that kind of demographic to my blog. Not only that, but regarding this decision I decided to do research into the whole "Nezha age debate". People's arguments have mainly been that in some media Nezha is an adult. Highly inaccurate media that is clearly not meant to be a close representation of the story. Throughout JTTW Nezha does not physically age, it's safe to assume the child immortal cannot physically age (or else Red Boy would have physically aged as well as an Infernal child who is hundreds of years old). I've also seen people saying that since LMK Nezha is aged up it's fine...no it is not. If you look at a minor and go "God if only they were older I'd totally do dirty stuff to them..." That. Is. Pedophilic. And. Gross. You are looking at that minor with sexual intent. Nezha is fundamentally designed to be a child. Lemme use this image of a statue of Nezha:

This is an accurate Nezha depiction. A child. One with hair buns, a common hair style for Chinese children to wear. The lotus flower Nezha is so attributed to is the flower of purity and innocence, and in this instance it is supposed to represent the purity and innocence of a child. The necklace Nezha is wearing is something known as a "longevity lock" and is specifically given to children. One person (a white Catholic who had done absolutely no research into the JTTW or Buddhism, mind you...) tried to lecture the server about Buddhist lore and how Nezha smut is okay...ignoring the fact that if Nezha is ever depicted as an adult it is a temporary form for battle purposes and is not Nezha's "true form". His true form is and always will be a twelve-year-old child. This person sums up my thoughts on the matter quite well. I did so one person argue "well it's impossible to know because there was never a need to establish Nezha as an eteral adult before" and I would answer that is because no one thought the population would look at a historically depicted child figure and try to fetishize it to give pedophiles and predators a place of refuge. It's the same argument as "Well Nezha might be physically twelve but he's thousands of years old!" Regarding my Nezha content I will only be posting platonic/QPR content from here on out. Thank you for your patience. This whole drama with Silver has worn me out, I will be trying my best to mentally bounce back so I can work on content here again. Likely I might end up posting about the Yandere Cowboy AU I have on the Discord server as that's been keeping me sane.

Overdue Apology

TW angst and mentions of death

Li Jing is not the best man, he wasn’t even a good man. It is something he is aware of, now at least. He has made many, MANY mistakes, and one of those mistakes…

Was judging princess Ironfan unfairly.

His stint with azure during the war, and now rekindled, wasn’t a secret anymore. And yet, hadn’t he been the one to lecture Ironfan on duty? How her thing with DBK was inane? Was he not the one who berated her for leaving her lost? And yet he was a hypocrite the entire time he said it.

Perhaps it was the breakup the day before that made his emotions run wild. Perhaps it was the overwhelming jealously of her freedom, her choice, the path she got to take, when he had been in the celestial realm, protecting a young Nezha. Trapped.

Not that he blamed Nezha, or any of his boys for it. But it had only fueled the fire. A fire that now needed to answer for the burns it caused.

Ironfan, mock bored: “So. Why did you invite me here.”

The steaming tea between them goes untouched.

Jing: (Awkwardly clears throat) “B-because. I would… like to apologize.”

Ironfan: (Raises an eyebrow) “Apologize?”

Jing: “Yes. For my… previous behavior to you and Bull king, As well as the words I spoke to you.”

Ironfan: “hm….”

Jing:m, now fidgeting: “I… I should not have said those things. You deserved happiness as much as anyone else, and I let my own… breakup influence me.”

Ironfan: (raises brows in suprise) “You mean you two had already-“

Jing, softly, avoiding her eyes: “He would not drop it, and I could not take it. When I refused… that was that. It was the very next day when you… absconded.” (steels himself) “But it is not an excuse. You did what I was not brave enough to do, and I let my…. Emotions say things that I should not have.”

“You had always been a very good friend to me, and I did not return the favor. I should have supported you and I didn’t. You were there for me when Yin died, and you helped me with Nezha and the boys, and I relayed you by roughing your name in the mud. And…”

“And I’m so, so sorry. You were like a sister to me, and… and I want to make things right. I want to go back to that. I’m sorry, Taishan, I’m so sorry.”

Ironfan inhales sharply…. And can’t help but to embrace her basically brother.

It’s not a simple fix, things are still rough and it’s going to take time to heal wounds that have had centuries to fester. But the apology was long overdue.

The snippet is still really good and could work with Nezha remembering or believing in an idealized version of his mother. And she did seem to have some guilt over his death when he appeared to ask her for a temple, though not enough to disobey Li Jing. She wasn't great but she was the best of the worst.
