i honest to god did not edit this,, it was like the third result that showed up on the shopping tab when i googled spiral from the book of saw,,, I'm incapable of making light of this because i really actually appreciate the thought that went into it, look they even color matched the icing to the lighting behind mr snuggles . it's so beautiful it actually invoked some sort of emotion in me I'm sentimental. Like I'm picturing this, it's a celebration, and like all of my friends and family and everyone is all around and a celestial heavenly light is radiating from within this cake in that exact shade of magenta and, in that instance, all the truths of the universe are revealed to me

i'm thinking about chani as written by denis villeneuve and the idea of the greek chorus. the members the chorus are meant to explain the messages the audience is meant to take away from the play, or to provide the average person's perspective on everything that takes place. and isn't that the exact kind of role that villeneuve has said he wants chani to fill? her role is that of the true moral compass, here to hammer home the reminder that paul is not and will not be morally sanctified by the narrative and that ultimately villeneuve's dune is about how paul's good intentions cannot excuse or codone his actions. villeneuve has assigned chani the role of the greek chorus and if you don't listen to her and use her as your frame of reference for understanding the film as intended, you're not watching dune properly.

#web weaving#sort of?#i never feel like my edits really fit#they're more like collages#anyway...me on my island with the one other tudor fan that liked AB 2021 lol#'our expectations were low but holy fuck' sounds like a lot of consternation about a pretty...solid script?#what i loved most about it was moments like the above#the ability to summarize really complex dynamics borne of circumstance#in such a way that you can believe in the world and it serves as its own 'previously on' that a miniseries inherently lacks#esp when it only covers five crucial months#tl; dr there's a lot of smugness evident in many books of this genre#when it comes to anne's attitude towards her stepdaughter#bcus she was quote proven wrong unquote; becaues mary got quote the last laugh unquote...#when really. as per the quotes i've been posting#it doesn't seem like mary's reconciliation with her father was the idyll many have made it#thus we have anne's letter#and offer. knowing that others are offering her better futures#but saying this is the best future you could have. limited time only.#and it seems the future proved her right; not wrong (at least the immediate future)#bcs while matters; had she accepted; might not've been substantially better than they were under the auspices of a 'more gentle' stepmother#it also doesn't really seem like they would have been substantially worse#anne was right that her enemy's supporters wanted her disgraced and/or dead. she was right in that they wanted elizabeth disgraced#and/or dead. she couldn't have predicted what happened to herself in the exact matter it did- mainly bcus it was unprecedented#but it seems she had a pretty clear view of what mary was doing: playing both sides. attempting to ingratiate herself to her father while#also conspiring against him. and she knew it would have been better to have her on side#(and in a more jaundiced view: have her where she could watch what she was doing; who she was seeing)#but perhaps underestimated how impossible it would be to get her there in the first place#('on side' ; that is. not at court. although probably not that either. with the conditions she demanded)#but her fears of mary were not paranoia. they seem to have been grounded in realism#and a clear view of the situation at home and abroad

Elizabeth Gaskell has the kind of brilliance that makes you forget how brilliant she is until you come back to her work after reading inferior authors. Her type of talent is understated skill that does everything so well that it looks easy.
She has prose that's descriptive without being flowery. Plots that take their time but also keep pulling you along. She writes about everyday life in a way that makes it enthralling without over-romanticizing it. She can take what would be stock characters in the hands of other writers and explore their upbringing and history so thoroughly that they become real, nuanced individuals. And she does it all so simply that you barely even notice how much talent it takes to write like that.
#books#elizabeth gaskell#whether intentionally or not it seems like january has become the month of the gaskell novel#it started with wives and daughters in 2021#n&s in 2022#mary barton last year#and now ruth#there's just something about the bright clear january light that sets off her writing to perfection#and with this book the descriptions of january's beauty made it especially fitting#i'm only three chapters in and shocked by how much i'm loving it#i'd read some less-than-impressive short pieces last year that made me wonder if i liked her as much as i thought#and then this book hits me in the face with 'oh yeah she's brilliant'#i think it's that her talents are novel-writing talents#she's not well-suited to write concise vivid moments#she needs to linger#draw out nuances#tease out backstories#draw threads together#when she gets the chance to do that she's incomparable#the best that realism has to offer#since i'm only three chapters in there's no telling how i'll like the book as a whole#but for now she's drawn me in

#i think it’s time i go back to therapy#i keep having recurring nightmares about my ex best friend#or dreams where she reaches out to me. and explains why she cut me out#backstory. in high school had a lesbian toxic situationship with my#bestie. THEN i had another one. which kinda overlapped? the first one was open but also just messy#anyways. jade and i were like together for a year. then she got a boyfriend one day and i had a breakdown#it happened just after high school and i was sooooo … unwell. wasn’t out to my family felt like i was gonna die etc etc#(this is all pre dnp btw) anyways next year i found dnp. a couple months later she broke up with her bf#and we sorted dated for a while (this whole time we’d been just friends and i was still not really over it but hiding it)#and then she dated ANOTHER guy. they broke up and she had a breakdown and moved 9 hours away. i went#to visit her for a month. we like kinda dated again then and i thought we could make it work. then 2020. no travel#so she started dating a guy. didn’t tell me. even though we spoke every day. she moved in with him#then she breaks up with him mid 2021. i started dating my gf. but Jade was clingy and it was awkward#she started dating a sketchy guy who was homophobic. i went and visited her a few times#start of 2023 she tells me she wants to make more of an effort cause he didn’t like her friends so she cut everyone out. then she ghosted#in feb 2023. we had tickets for#mcr in march. i had to text her cause she’d blocked me on messenger and said im going to the concert whether she’s there or not#she said ‘yeah no worries! you can take someone else in my place too 😎’ she used that fucking emoji#and I haven’t spoken to her since. I think she quit her job . and that guy was not a nice man#so I still worry about her#writing this all down makes me realise she was a bitch and I deserve better#but I just want closure. it isn’t fair she replied so casually to my text when I said ‘you’ve blocked me’#it isn’t fair she HAS MY SIGNED COPY OF DANS BOOK#anyways. #I made this in 2021 so literally just copying and pasting from discord gc dhdjdjd#it’s so AUGHHH#so somehow Cyrus/Merlin are denizens on the train and maybe they’re both from the mirror world👀#but they have human forms for whatever reason and got trapped on the train somehow#and for some reason can’t get back to the mirror world (aka where their family is banished to)#so they spend centuries living on opposite sides of the train and fighting each other.#Basically Merlin helps the passengers and Cyrus sabotages them#at some point fort comes and Cyrus disguises himself as a passenger and ‘helps him’ get off the train but really he’s just trying to#get his family freed from the mirror world#basically stuff happens and after his redemption arc Cyrus realizes his family lied to him#bc they (denizens) were planning to hurt all the passengers and there’s like a revenge story in there that Cyrus believed but actually#the passengers literally didn’t do anything wrong😳maybe the old ones just wanna get off the train too and are jealous idk#also Cyrus recognizes he doesn’t hate passengers through fort!!! the powers of ur first crush and best friend!!! yay!!#revenge of magic#rom#fort fitzgerald#cyrus rom#I’m so sorry yall I don’t have enough time to write esc rn so pls enjoy my silly little aus#i think it’d be fun if fort was on the train bc he’s looking for his dad too. or just. he cannot deal with his angst in a healthy way#OR FORTS SELFISHNESS AND REVENGE ARC LIKE BOOK 1#and that being a foil to Cyrus’s own wanting revenge against humans arc and him missing his family too#yeah. yeahyeahyeah

talking to new people again is making me realize that (this is gonna sound dramatic) i haven't lived in five years but what i have done is watch a lot of movies and read a bunch of books and believe it or not that actually makes me an interesting conversationalist in some ways (?)
#and like i say: brf slt#they don't know i'm crazy and as long as you're normal about it having seen a lot of movies just makes you come off as someone who's like#interested in culture i guess. which i am. but it's fun#and the books thing too and also knowing a lot about sociology#i have things to say jokes to make so in two months they haven't even realized i haven't lived a life yet🙏#i didn't even do it on purpose the way it happened is in 2019 i was very depressed suicidal etc then i got better but i was focused on#like...idk. basically getting used to being okay with being alive again? then it was 2020 and we didn't have classes in person full time#until september 2021. that's how it was for university students here. i did hang out with people but no one i LOVED or actually became#close with and it's true that i could have tried harder but i didn't because guys i love being by myself😭😭😭#then three years went by and now we're here. it's fine it's just that i don't have a lot of anecdotes that aren't old because LITERALLY#nothing has happened to me. nothing#that's not true i did talk about something semi-recent to my bff on friday it was about my 'friends' who hated on everyone the same way i#did when i was literally 12 and about how anxiety inducing it was because after a while i was like is this how they talk about me when i'm#not around🤨 i actually talked about that then. january or february 2023#this has been in my drafts for a week and i talked about the post i talk about in that last tag last week when i talked about my mutual who#blocked me that's the post she replied to to give me advice😔#also it's funny i said they don't know i'm crazy and a guy asked me what my favorite tv shows were and i don't know why i actually gave him#my full list like it's funny because like i said they think i like like good movies and good television and interesting books and stuff#and i know the shows i told him made him reassess that (which is fine but it's just funny) and also i told him i'm watching gilmore girls#for the 18th time and he was like you're joking i was like hm...and then he was like no you're being serious because it's way too#precise...and THAT i could have not told him. i was like whyyy did i tell him that...but it's fine#HE HADN'T EVEN HEARD OF SUCCESSION? 34-year-olds...#i mentioned the sopranos a couple weeks ago and my future bff was like what is that and i was like ? then i asked two more people and they#didn't know the show either so i was like i'll ask him (34-year-old) i know he'll know the sopranos and he was like OBVIOUSLY i know#the sopranos it's supposed to be one of the best shows of all time and later i asked if he had seen succession and he'd never even heard of#it? crazy. i mean if it had been anyone else i wouldn't have thought it was crazy but i expected HIM to know succession

can anyone who favors the wolf hall portrayal of AB > the tudors like...explain themselves?
#im speaking more specifically of the tv adaptation but like#im about to make a checklist and if the tudors isn't better it's certainly not worse#both depict her being manhandled by a male relative#AB 2021 and BSR are the first to avoid this but in the former it might count if you count henry as one which technically so (spouse)#AB 2021 also interestingly has a different portryal of her relationship with the duke of norfolk than traditional...?#there's resentment simmering underneath but for all that it's still on the face cordial#tobg's of that relationship (film) is also actually rather interesting. because it starts out very positive . almost sweet#and the book it's very like. gross in some ways but seems to begin with a grudging admiration on his part actually#he respects her intelligence and then this deteoriates#the best one i've ever read of that particular relationship is actually christopher rae's series. again#AB 2021 was supposed to be inspired by tobg but the relationship btwn AB and the duke of norfolk seemed more like it picked up where tudors#s1 left off....tbh...

me trying to explain that while tt's nightwing run might kinda suck, it really was a good latch on point for new fans when it was first released:
#q speaks#is this a hot take?#idek#i just know that after the ric grayson stuff the nightwing solo DESPERATELY needed a revamp#and of course i'm very new to comics still and i don't read every single dc line#but mannnn before dawn of dc it might've been the best latch on point for the batfamily#cause what else was going on at the time???????#we were deep in the city of bane arc in the main title and still running on the back on the failed batcat wedding#batgirl from burnside was ending#there was robin 2021 which was a good damian book but not a good batfamily one#so what else WAS there#tec obvs but like if i were going to suggest any batman-related title to start with it would not be tec#like recent tec yes cause the story seems very cohesive#but like 2021 tec no cause it was still very much independent sotries at the time and the concept of tec as a whole is confusing#like it's batman but not but how do you explain that to a newbie lmao#anyways tt's nightwing has gotten BAD bad but after suffering through the ric stuff it was like well at least this is marginally better#oh and there was rhato but that was wrapping up too#dc comics#nightwing
