A Clone Wars Episode Deep Dive
I didn't discover The Clone Wars fandom until 2021 and only started watching the show in mid-2023 (finished a few months ago), and I want to discuss and analyze all sorts of odds and ends—years after most people watched. This includes cool stuff in episodes I think some fans understandably skip when doing re-watches and therefore no longer remember well, but I’m digging into one of them anyway. So, have a long post about S2:E11, "Lightsaber Lost," and then come talk to me about it if you’d like!
This episode is saying three things at once, and the closer you get to the symbolic message meant for mostly adult audiences, the wilder things get.
The literal plot: Ahsoka’s lightsaber is stolen, and she recovers it with the help of a Jedi elder who teaches her life lessons along the way.
The morality tale for young viewers: gun control (a bold choice).
An eerie interlude for older viewers: A pair of brief scenes—only 45 seconds or so in length combined—communicate the future purge of the Jedi order via symbolic visual storytelling and a speech that’s being broadcast in the background. No dialogue required.
I'm going to focus on this third bullet point, but I also recommend a re-watch for the gun control angle. (Hint: if you think the writers are only arguing for handling guns responsibly, you haven’t taken the Jedi’s current context into account; also, the writers aren't referring to literal in-universe guns—Ahsoka’s lightsaber is the gun.)
Back to the episode’s message for older viewers: Split over two scenes, the audience watches Ahsoka chase a bounty hunter in possession of her lightsaber, then the bounty hunter partially damage and destabilize an enormous levitating billboard so she can get away from Ahsoka, and finally Ahsoka tumble down and precariously cling to the billboard’s screen. The billboard shows Palpatine delivering a—likely prerecorded—speech that is meant to sound supportive of the Jedi, but is instead priming Coruscant residents to believe anti-Jedi rhetoric; just before this two-scene sequence ends, Palpatine also begins to explain why he needs more executive power in order to support the Jedi.
It's great to pinpoint an example of Palatine's propaganda, but what does the visual storytelling communicate, with this speech for a backdrop?
Note: the text of Palpatine’s speech, shown in captions in the following screenshots, is not in alt text as that would chop the speech up between image descriptions, and is instead in a single paragraph after the final screenshot.
Palpatine's Speech
"I have no doubt that the Jedi are doing their very best to ensure the safety of every citizen in the Republic. The accusations that the Jedi created the Clone War to give themselves more power over the government is absurd and I will not stand for it."
Ahsoka as Symbolically at Palpatine's Mercy
After a scene break, Palatine's speech picks up mid-sentence and we see just how small and vulnerable Ahsoka is compared to Palpatine's soaring and vast projection. She appears entirely at his mercy, and somewhat at the mercy of Coruscant as well.
Palpatine's Speech, Resumed
"…Count Dooku and his droid army. To support the Jedi's efforts in the war, I ask the Senate to pass these new laws, giving more jurisdiction…"
The Genocide to Come
As this speech is broadcast to Coruscant, the seemingly trustworthy and dependable Chancellor of the Republic symbolically collapses beneath Ahsoka and leaves her stranded over a chasm. All while Palpatine spreads propaganda that will eventually convince the public to support her people's genocide.
Perhaps the best way to describe this is:
An unarmed Ahsoka struggles to hang onto the edge of a high precipice, that precipice is a symbol for Palpatine—and in a few years, Palpatine will shove the entire Jedi order off the edge of a much higher cliff.
Given how the sheer visual scale of Palpatine in this second scene represents the power he can wield over the Jedi—as the staging emphasizes Ahsoka's relative smallness and her physical vulnerability—it's clear the Jedi will not be able to rescue themselves when this future betrayal comes; Palpatine has amassed too much power and put too many plans in place. And no one who's bought into Palpatine's propaganda will try to catch the Jedi when they go over the edge.
Ahsoka’s Survival
Ahsoka’s individual survival of Order 66 is signaled here by her ability to get off the levitating billboard, but nothing about the staging suggests this comes down to unique skill—any number of well-trained Jedi could have gotten out of her predicament when the right opportunity (a single speeder that veers out of its lane and passes unusually close to the screen) presented itself.
In both “Lightsaber Lost” and "Victory and Death" (S7:E12, see below), her survival involves flinging herself through open air (and into an out-of-place flying vehicle), a nice nod to Ahsoka’s association with flight and Morai, though I feel like that’s a coincidence (?) as of season 2. Or maybe not. I have no idea if Ahsoka’s symbolic associations—flight in the case of “Lightsaber Lost,” rather than Morai specifically—were planned out in advance.
What About the Propaganda?
Returning to season 2, we come to the final big-picture takeaway of the "Lightsaber Lost" scenes: I’ve referred to Palpatine’s speech as something that plays in the background because Ahsoka doesn’t pay attention to his propaganda, even though it’s literally in her face. What does this mean if we treat Ahsoka as a stand-in for the Jedi, and Palpatine’s speech as a stand-in for his growing threat to the Jedi? In these scenes, Ahsoka first doesn’t pay attention because she’s trying to stay alive in precarious circumstances, just as Jedi across the galaxy are kept distracted from the big picture by trying to keep themselves, their Padawans, their troops, and civilians alive as war swallows up the galaxy. Then, Ahsoka is distracted by tracking the bounty hunter who has her lightsaber; in the context of this episode (which asks, ‘who should be allowed to use a lightsaber, and when?’), Ahsoka’s lightsaber also comes to represent Jedi’s efforts to fight the Clone Wars as ethically as possible. It presumably takes more time and effort to fight a war when you’re concerned with morals, at least when the opposition is perfectly happy to commit war crimes. By tossing the Jedi into a war, Palpatine keeps them too busy to systemically search for the Master Sith (in addition to Sith stuff diminishing the Jedi’s ability to use the force), as their time is eaten up by upholding the equivalent of the Geneva and Hague Conventions (etc.) when almost no one else is, by protecting as many other lives as possible, and by staying alive.
And The Clone Wars communicates all of this in a minute! Though I’ll admit my final point about Ahsoka’s lightsaber representing ethical combat is a stretch. I love it when TV shows and movies make full use of visual storytelling, and The Clone Wars is fabulous at it.
Whew—and that’s that! I’m grateful if even a single person has read this far and would love to know what you think, but regardless, I had fun analyzing this episode and organizing my thoughts about it. Cheers to the Clone Wars fandom.

A master list of just a bunch of Kryzes (and a little bit of other things)
I recently finished “More Than Blood,” the sequel to my ridiculously expansive Obitine AU “She Said the Word.” I may be taking a break from fic writing for a little while, but I’ve been thinking about organizing all my titles into a master list to make finding certain things easier. Below is a full list of all my writing, broke down into AU, characters, and/or ships.
Here’s a key to help streamline the process if you’re looking for a particular thing:
Author’s Favorite = *
BoFenn = ^
Beautiful Trash, aka BoPre = +
Bo being sad about Satine/sad in general = $
My beloved, complicated duo, Bo and Korkie = &
The New Republic/Mandalorian Era Bo/BoDin = %
She Said the Word AU
An alternative universe where, when it is time for Obi-Wan to leave Mandalore as a padawan, Satine says the word- stay. So, he does. And the universe changes, yet stays the time.
I will list these in chronological order as best I can. Since the one shots almost all overlap SSTW, I will include what chapter to read through prior to reading the one shot to avoid spoilers.
She Said the Word (68 chapters, 253,008 words) - In one universe, Jedi padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi is not asked to stay by the love of his life, Duchess Satine Kryze. We all know how that story goes. In another, she said the word. How is the galaxy effected when the great Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi never existed? What does a galaxy torn to pieces look like with family man/consort to the Mandalorian Duchess Obi-Wan Kenobi in it?
Bright Light of a New Day (one shot, 780 words. Best read after Chapter 1) - Obi-Wan Kenobi reflects on the birth of his son. Written for Obitine Week 2021
Let Go (one shot, 3250 words. Best read after Chapter 4) - Anakin Skywalker, just shy of his thirteen birthday, travels to Jedha with Obi-Wan and their guide, Quinlan Vos. While there, Anakin seeks out his kyber crystal for his lightsaber, and learns a valuable lesson.
Everything You Need (one shot, 3783 words. Best read after Chapter 8) - On the cusp of his 13th birthday, Korkie Kryze-Kenobi makes the trip to Jedha to find his kyber crystal. While there, he learns he possesses everything he'll ever really need.
Who Will Keep Me Safe?+ (one shot, 5496 words. This runs concurrently from the time of Obitine’s year on the run through chapter 19. Best read after chapter 19 to avoid spoilers in the main story) - When Bo-Katan is all but abandoned by her Clan in the middle of a war zone, she is taken in by a dangerous group led by a brutal man.
Gone Soft (one shot, 2251 words. Best read after Chapter 30) - Bo-Katan begins to truly appreciate the family she's been missing. Written for Bo-Katan Week 2022
Honor Bound^ (one shot, 1327 words. This reads a bit like a flashback and can realistically be read at any point. It will probably hit the hardest if read sometime between Chapters 39 and 45, especially after 45). Bo-Katan Kryze and Fenn Rau face the cruel realities of war and duty, and struggle to come to terms with what it means for their young love.
Orbit* (one shot, 3432 words. This was written as a “deleted scene” and takes place roughly during Chapter 46. It is best either read around that time OR, if you want to avoid spoilers that really aren’t spoilers- you know what’s coming, I'm sure- read it at the end of SSTW, or at least after Chapter 61) - "He was fairly certain he was a satellite trapped in her gravitational pull, his orbit slowly degrading until one day, and soon, he would crash into her, certain to make a mess of them both."
More Than Blood (25 chapters, 143,996 words) - A sequel to “She Said the Word.” Eight years after the actions of Mandalore prompted the end of the Clone Wars; the planet, its people, and the ruling Clan Kryze are learning how to deal with their new role as a prominent voice in the Republic. Thrust into a leadership role in a galaxy wide initiative, while also being everyone's favorite planet to love or hate, has its challenges and benefits, and Clan Kryze must work together to navigate them, all while dealing with the personal trials of a growing and maturing family.
Deep Roots (multi chapter, ongoing) - Post “More Than Blood” anthology of one shots.
Canon(ish) Obitine
A list of one shots written to fit, more or less, into canon, centering around Obitine. These are fics with actual interaction OR the focus is on them and their thoughts for each other. I have a lot of fics tagged Obitine, but they’re really more Satine and Korkie centric.
Turmoil* (871 words) - Obi-Wan Kebobi brings a variety of turmoil into Satine Kryze's life the first time they see each other again after over fifteen years apart. And she's not quite sure what to make of some of it.
A Note (453 words) - Satine Kryze considers how to send Obi-Wan Kenobi some vital news. Written for Obitine Week 2021
Damn Fool (526 words) - Satine Kryze and Obi-Wan Kenobi reflect on their first impressions. Written for Obitine Week 2021
Shared Grief (762 words) - Obi-Wan Kenobi and Satine Kryze reflect after the death of Qui-Gon Jinn. Written for Obitine Week 2021
Just One More (1650 words) - Satine Kryze comes to terms with decisions she needs to make as her year with her Jedi protectors comes to a close. Written for Obitine Week 2021
Pretend (441 words) - Obi-Wan Kenobi and Satine Kryze barely escape with their lives from Pre Vizsla and his Death Watch commandos. Now they take a quiet lull to regroup.
A Moment of Levity (1813 words) - It's been six weeks since Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi left Mandalore with the young Duchess Satine. Tired of listening to his apprentice and the Duchess bicker, Qui-Gon sends them off to enjoy the latest village's summer festival.
Damn That Man (2164 words) - When Duchess Satine Kryze finds out that Obi-wan Kenobi is in fact NOT dead, despite having attended his funeral, she is left feeling angered and betrayed. Will she and Obi-wan be able to move past the lies forced on those closest to him for the sake of his mission? (Fun fact: this is my first ever attempt to write Satine and got me hooked on her).
Canon(ish) Satine
Here is where to find one shots of Satine without Obi-Wan trying to hog her limelight. Some have significant undertones of Obitine (some less so, but I think it’s hard to be Satine and not have him at the back of your mind, even a little). A lot are focused on her and Korkie.
Life Without Regret (1133 words) - Satine has no regrets in how she is changing Mandalore for the better. But that doesn't mean she is without regret. Written for Satine Week 2022
Two Martinis (196 words) - A young Satine attends her first senate gala on Coruscant with a trusted friend. Written for Satine Week 2022
Peace For The Children* (1254 words) - Two moments in Satine Kryze's life bookend why peace and pacifism are vital parts of her ideology. Written for Satine Week 2022
Water the Seeds of Hope*$ (1424 words) - A short biography of the late Duchess Satine Kryze is published anonymously in the age of the Empire, and risks watering the seeds of rebellion on Mandalore and the galaxy at large. Written for Satine Week 2022
Ner Ad’ika* (605 words) - Satine Kryze prepares Korkie for his long trip away from her and reflects on what it means for them to be family. Written for Obitine Week 2021
Reunion* (1072 words) - Satine Kryze welcomes her adopted baby boy into her home. Companion piece to “Ner Ad’ika” and written for Obitine Week 2021
Canon(ish) Bo-Katan
Writing Bo-Katan, particularly TCW and post TCW Bo-Katan, is a particular favorite pastime of mine. I am enthralled by her complicated nature and the trauma, grief, and anger that motivate her, especially in the Empire era. There are some fairly rough, traumatic moments in some of these fics, so I will note when tags should be carefully minded. Most of these are one shots, save for one.
Recite My Regrets* (880 words) - Claiming the Darksaber forces Bo-Katan to face her many mistakes, and how they all tie back to the ancient weapon.
Bait^& (3 chapters, 7257 words) - Mandalore is lost, and along with it, Bo-Katan Kryze and Fenn Rau. OR, how a silly crack headcanon on why Bo-Katan seems to never age turned into a serious and angsty fic.
Yet still there is hope*& (1266 words) - In the wake of destroying the Empire's killer weapon, the Duchess, and accepting the darksaber, Bo-Katan receives two very unexpected pieces of news. (Note: this truly is a particular favorite of mine and just now re-reading it made me cry. Again).
Clan of Two& (1538 words) - Bo-Katan and Korkie sort through their emotions together in the aftermath of Duchess Satine's death.
Intention*&^$ (1469 words) - Shortly after taking up the Darksaber, in the middle of a bloody battle, Bo-Katan Kryze faces a decision she had hoped not to face.
Weak+ (1550 words) - Bo-Katan Kryze will do a lot of terrible things for Death Watch, but she finds a line she just can't cross. And worries she may pay the ultimate price when she refuses to cross it. Mind the tags.
Sisters’ Lament*$^& (1929 words) - Bo-Katan finds herself thrown right back into her grief and guilt over Satine's death when she and Fenn Rau stumble across yet another insensitively named weapon.
Gamble+ (558 words) - Two small moments in Bo-Katan and Pre's complex relationship.
Promises, Promises$ (1636 words) - Bo-Katan is always amazed at her sister's willingness to forgive. Written for Bo-Katan Week 2022
Bite your tongue until you bleed+ (1256 words) - On the eve of storming Nal Hutta, Bo-Katan voices her concerns with the path Death Watch is taking. Written for Bo-Katan Week 2022. Mind the tags.
The Stories Our Scars Tell*^$ (1512 words) - Bo-Katan has many scars- on her body and heart. Written for Bo-Katan Week 2022
No Matter What$& (1935 words) - Birthday wishes from Bo-Katan to Satine. Written for Bo-Katan Week 2022
Hopes Up*^+ (3167 words) - The chances of Bo-Katan getting pregnant are low, but never zero. Written for Bo-Katan Week 2022. Mind the tags.
Jealous+ (1374 words) - Bo-Katan contends with emotions she doesn't quite fully understand in her relationship with Pre Vizsla.
Keeping Company with Ghosts$% (1908 words) - After too many years of death and destruction, the weight of Bo-Katan's grief, guilt, and anger send her into self exile in her family's ancestral home.
Dormant$% (1894 words) - After meeting the strange little child accompanying the Mandalorian in too shiny beskar, Bo-Katan reflects on paths not taken.
Worthy$% (9436 words) - Bo-Katan seeks out Din Djarin and Grogu after they abruptly leave Mandalore.
Other Things
A handful of fics that either don’t quite fit anywhere above because of the perspective they’re told from, or they are just completely different.
Burn Bright* (1198 words) - Leia takes a moment to herself to reflect on her loss after the destruction of the Death Star.
Best Kept Secret& (1383 words) - Korkie Kryze takes a moment to reflect on one of the galaxy's best kept secrets. Written for Bo-Katan Week 2022
Liability+ (1768 words) - Pre Vizsla is a practiced hand at knowing just what to say to each of the Kryze sisters to keep them just where he wants them.
Blame the Jedi (1173 words) - When chaos ensues after the arrival of the Jedi to Mandalore, Captain Tol'ket isn't sure he wants the man around the Duchess. Written for Obitine Week 2021
What Must Be Done (unfinished AU long fic) - Duchess Satine Kryze survives Maul's attack and witnesses the rise of the Empire while once again rebuilding her home, this time with the help of her long lost sister, and the son that she calls "nephew." Along the way, she meets an unlikely ally of sorts, and finds herself questioning everything in the name of Mandalore's preservation.

Ok I don’t know what it is, but Howzer looks so much like Rex. I know you probably are all like ‘well no shit they are clones’ but if u look at like Rex and Fives side by side THEY BARELY LOOK ALIKE. Same with Rex and Jesse and everyone else, but u put Howzer and Rex next to each other and they look so alike. Like I’ll see edits and the top bit of Howzer gorgeous hair is cut off so u just see the buzzed sides and I have to do a double take because for a second I think it’s Rex.
These are all from the Umbara arc so they all have the same design model (Rex, Fives, Jesse, Hardcase)

I think it’s hilarious that we are all in agreement that the CC batch of Cody, Wolffe, Bly, Fox, and Ponds adopted Rex because his old batch was a bunch of assholes

Clone Wars Headcannons
All over the place but yeah enjoy
Ahsoka will let her men test out pick up lines before shore leave and give them tips on how to better pick up girls
Ahsoka picked up her eye rolling habit from Wolffe
Fives and Echo refer to Rex as “oh captain my captain” (Rex is very annoyed)
Clone troopers sleep better when they cuddle up with someone
Anakin has given Ahsoka and many of his men heart attacks when he randomly removes his prosthetic hand
There are painted line of the Resolutes floor near the medical bays to mark how far troopers have made it when they attempt to escape the medics
This usually ends with the medics full body tackling their vod and occasionally their Jedi
Hardcase has the furthest mark with Fives very near behind him
Much to Wolffe’s dismay young animals love to imprint of him during campaigns, he says he hates it but Sinker once saw Wolffe carrying around a baby loth cat wrapped in one of his blankets
Rex is a natural blonde due to a mutation and I will die on this hill
Fox and Wolffe have the highest spice tolerance of their batch and their brothers are very concerned for them
Based on the scene in the Umbara arc where Tup is hanging onto the gunship handle with 2 hands, he is a very nervous flier
Ahsoka noticed that Tup was a nervous flier and now tries to get on the same ships as him to help keep him calm
The 501st has different tallies up throughout the barracks for random things like ‘how many times the general loses his lightsaber’, ‘best quotes for the week’, etc
Clone troopers speak mando’a, kaminoan, and basic fluently
Rex always wins arm wrestling contests, even against Anakin
Ahsoka learned how to play sabacc from the Wolf Pack and has been banned from playing in most 501st circles because she always wins
The CCs have the ability to sleep with their eyes open and Wolffe and Fox actively chose to do so to creep everyone else out
Cody has broken his wrists and his shins from fist fighting droids but he continues to do it
Many troopers in the 501st have also attempted to fist fight droids but quickly stopped when the medics refused to treat them
Anakin has also attempted to fist fight droids and damaged his cybernetic hand enough that he had to get a new one
Ahsoka purrs when she sleeps close to other people
Hardcase almost cried when he first heard Ahsoka purr because he thought it was cutest damn thing
Capture the flag is the 501st’s favorite down time activity
Cody has hidden drugs in Obi-Wan’s tea to make him sleep which Obi-Wan was rather offended by but continued to accept all tea given to him by his commander
Ahsoka set up a projector in the rec room and on hyper space trips she plays holomovies so her men can be ‘cultured’
Ahsoka is good friends with Padme and Riyo Chuchi and regularly gets together with them for girls nights
Rex has gotten a tattoo while drunk but Cody is the only one that knows about it

Ahsoka and the 501st Headcannons
- Ahsoka is known for going to the barracks to comfort troopers after a campaign. She will sit with them for hours and listen to them and offer a shoulder to cry on. It’s not uncommon to find a group of shinies huddled around her on the floor
- Speaking of shinies, some of them (esp when Ahsoka was still pretty small) they’d hug onto her like she was a stuffed toy, and she didn’t mind at all. If it made her trooper feel better then she would do so happily
- If a trooper finds something cool on a campaign, like a pretty rock or a flower, they will give it to her and she keeps all the little gifts they give her
- She has lets some of Torrent play around with her sabers, and even taught Fives some of the basic lightsaber stances so they could mock duel
- Ahsoka knows what kind of music each trooper likes and will share songs she finds that she thinks they will like with them. She also was able to barter for a portable speaker that they could keep in the barracks or rec room
- She and Fives started a prank war that eventually involved all of the 501st and the 212th
- Echo helps Ahsoka study because he’s actually enjoys reading ‘boring’ stuff. Jedi temple work is actually a lot more interesting than REG manuals
- It started with Jesse, but one day while he was bored in the rec room, he asked Ahsoka (who was doing course work) if he could try to do a push up with her sitting on him (like in some of the holovideos he’s seen). She says yes. Rex walks in to see Jesse doing pushups while Ahsoka is typing out an essay on his back
- Pretty soon there is a competition between the veterans in the 501st on who can do the most pushups with Ahsoka sitting on them. Hardcase held the record until Rex stepped in and beat him by double
- There is an ongoing debate on how tall Ahsoka is, she argues that you measure from the tips of her montrals, her men argue its the top of her forehead.
- “Why would you measure from my forehead my mortals are literally attached to my head, the ARE the top of my head!” “even if we measured from your montrals, you still short as kriff.”
- Because Togruta don’t have hair, she is fascinated by it. Originally she only messed with Anakin’s hair but soon her men started letting her touch their hair was well. She would sit there playing with it for hours if they would let her (and many times they did because it feels good)
- They began teaching her some sayings in Manda’o and in return she taught them a few things in Togruti
- they all complain whenever they have to fly with her, but in reality they prefer her flying to their generals (and she is actually a very good flyer but they would never admit that)
- If Ahsoka hears someone insult her or say anything inappropriate about her, she ignores it, you say something about one of her troopers, she will not hesitate to jump them (Rex has had to haul her away from many brawls)
- If the troopers hear someone insult them they ignore it, if someone catcalls or insults their commander that person better pray to whatever god they believe in because they are about to meet their maker
- Ahsoka and Anakin started a karaoke tradition with the 501st but it stopped after Ahsoka left the order
- After Ahsoka left the order the clones still found themselves picking up small gifts on campaigns, and some chose to keep them with them in case Ahsoka ever came back

My #1 post of 2022
I see your “Ahsoka Tano gets de-aged and Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Plo enter dad mode” and I raise you:
Ahsoka Tano gets de-aged and battle tested, top strategist and captain of the 501st Rex, melts and enters ultimate ori’vod mode as soon as he sees his commander tiny. The 501st as a whole fights over who gets to carry her around the ship and Anakin watches his extremely competent and experienced battalion fall to pieces as soon as they see baby Ahsoka.
Marshall Commander Cody aka the ori’vod of half the GAR let’s baby Ahsoka sit in his lap as he does reports and carries her to meetings. The 212th take turns escorting the tiny commander to the med bay to be checked up on (because god knows how many diseases they come into contact with as they travel around the galaxy). Obi-Wan watches one of the best legions in the GAR fall prey again and again to his grandpadawan’s tooka eyes.
All of this only happens if they can pry Ahsoka from the 104th. Wolffe refuses to let Ahsoka out if his sight when she is with them, usually resorting to carrying her everywhere. Rarely has anybody seen Ahsoka not being carried, either on the shoulders or in the arms, of Commander Wolffe. Those in the 104th that had known Ahsoka before she became Anakin’s student and the commander of the 501st don’t trust her well-being with their other brothers. It’s not that they doubt their brothers’ with Ahsoka, it’s just that they feel much better when she is safe with them. Completely normal. Plo watches his serious and battle hardened battalion soften as soon as they get their hands on baby Ahsoka.
I raise you, the clone troopers born from Jango Fett’s DNA, a mandalorian through and through, see a child and immediately adopt it.

random thought but my favourite headcanon is anakin and obi-wan needing each other's touch to function properly because it's their greatest source of comfort.
it's visceral. the force itself makes them crave it desperately. it can be something as simple as a hand on the shoulder or fingers brushing against one another as they walk side by side.
and when they spend many months separated and they come back, they go M.I.A for a day or two because they just need to be together, sleeping and cuddling, and it does wonders for their health both mental and physical because don't you just love some good old codependecy (or dyadism, because that's amazing too)

obi-wan hiding leia under his coat in kenobi just makes me think that luke and leia would have definitely tried to pull off the ‘two kids in a trench coat’ thing if they had been allowed to stay together as kids

okay i just woke up but im still reeling from kenobi and all i can think about is bail organa and owen lars.
both of them having agreed to raise these children that mean so much to the galaxy. for bail, raising the daughter of one of his closest friends. owen, the son the brother he hardly knew, but knew was dangerous. both of them raising these children with such a fierce protectiveness.
owen, how when we see him with luke, the second that he’s not where he was supposed to be, owen is off shouting his name. how owen goes and tells obi wan to leave luke alone, leave him out of the jedi business because he’s seen what it can bring, can see luke is already too much like anakin. how then he literally stares down revas lightsaber, not speaking a word of his nephew. like not for a second there i thought owen would break.
bail, so overwhelmingly proud of leia already, of her free spirit. of how she can already stand up to those who treat others (and her) poorly. how he never tells her to change, only pinky swear to apologize after. how we won’t take no as an answer when it comes to getting her back. how in perfect contrast to owen who wants to keep obi from luke as much as possible, bail wastes no time travelling all the way to tatooine to make him help save her.
seeing them be character foils for each other while at the same time we get to see how similar luke and leia are and how they both handle raising them differently but with the same dedication and love is fucking beautiful.

watching din djarin constantly getting thrown around like a rag doll is so funny cause like yeah- he’s our main man, our badass bounty hunter with some of the best fighting prowess you’ll see, but he’s also the human embodiment of the question mark and does not think things through half the time- the man is smart but he’s absolutely winging it and putting himself in situations where, yeah, he’s gonna get sent flying across the room and i love that for him

i love to think that sometimes luke will just casually drop the wildest, most unhinged pieces of lore about his upbringing on tatooine around the others and they'll all just look at him in slight fear like,
'oh yeah! that reminds me of when the kids from my school would all go jump into the womp-rat pit!'
and everyone is just like 'the fucking what pit?'
'the womp-rat pit! all the kids would go out to this outcrop in the dunes where there's this pit full of angry womp-rats and try to push each other in!'
or he'd go off about how pod-racing is fun, but pod-racing at night was even better cause it makes it harder to actually pilot- and oh that one time he even flipped but it was okay cause landing in the sand is mostly soft- and din would just be looking at him like 'how are you still living?'

My #1 post of 2022
i think what made the last episode of kenobi, and the kenobi show as a whole, so special is because it really just reminded us that the heart of star wars is love.
we see it full force with beru and owen. both willing to do anything to protect luke. put their lives on the line for him. we see it in beru immediately jumping into action. we see it in owen's claiming of luke as his own. his son. their son. in the looks on their faces when they see luke again, the utter fear that he may be gone. because while obi-wan could most likely feel him in the force, for one gut wrenching moment owen and beru thought their boy was gone.
we see it in breha and bail. their odd, funny little girl finally home and you can just feel their joy. their pride when leia is unapologetically herself. and how when obi-wan talks to leia about her birth parents, she instead looks to them. those who have raised her with a fierce love and kindness. how when she looks to them, they look back with so much love.
we see it in obi-wan and anakin. obi-wan apologizing to anakin, and we have to wonder how long those words have been building inside him? and then the tragic acceptance that there is no longer that person there to love. that his ten years of grief, maybe longer, was over something that was not his fault, that he could have never succeeded in preventing. but at the same time, we know that obi-wan still holds his love for anakin. it's just that darth vader isn't him.
and don't even get me started on obi-wan and his love for luke and leia. how leia was the one to pull him from his isolation. become the man he was again. how watching over luke is his motivation to stay that way. how thinking about them literally is what gives him the strength to pull himself up from the ground. honestly obi-wan and the twins deserve their own post.
star wars has always been a story about love. it can, after all, ignite the stars. and the kenobi finale has captured that fully, making it feel like the most truly star wars show in ages.

what a year in television! it was so easy to chose my favourite movies of last year, but a lot harder for the below:
top series of 2023:
1. Beef
2. White Lotus - Season 2
3. Blue Eye Samurai - Season 1
4. Demon Slayer - Season 4
5. Silo - Season 1
best episodes of the year:
1. Beef - Figures of Light
2. Demon Slayer - Someone’s Dream & Daybreak & First Light
3. White Lotus - Bull Elephants
4. Black Mirror - Demon 79
5. Black Mirror - Beyond the Sea
honorable mentions:
The Crown - Season 6 / even though the death of Diana has taken over the show, and quality dipped especially in the beginning of this season, The Ritz was a fantastic episode, along with the finale, which was a great send off.
Attack on Titan - Season 4, Chapter 3 / ah fuck me dead, that ending…I was not blown away by the last episode overall, even though it had some really fucking strong moments. and ever since I started watching it 10 years ago I was hoping the power of the titans will be shown as something that can heal & create, not just destroy, so was a but disappointed with the direction we ended up with. having said that. the fucking. end. credits. it’s one of the best endings to any series I have ever watched and even though the writing was a bit clunky, Eren’s turned out to be one of the most complex characters ever written in anime at least.
Star Wars Bad Batch - Season 2 / it’s becoming a very strong series on it’s own right and proves that you don’t need anyone wielding a lightsaber to have strong storylines. plan 99 narrowly missed out on the best episodes of the year.
best series I watched this year:
1. Dark (2017-2020)
2. Maid (2021)
3. Dopesick (2021)
4. End of the Fucking World (2017-2019)
5. Mare of Easttown (2021)
honorable mentions:
Chainsaw Man (2022)
One Punch Man (2015-2019)
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood (2009-2010)
Steven Universe (2016-2017)
Steven Universe Future (2019)
also I watched almost 400hrs more tv than in 2022. lol.

Yaddle has devoted a lot of time to scholarly interests, and spends much time in the Jedi Archives.
Yarael Poof has a mischievous side and enjoys playing mind tricks on colleagues.
Note: While this book was put out very recently, indicating an intention for these mentions to be canon, I would be careful of taking these as Hard Fact until they’ve appeared in an actual story somewhere (and sometimes they’re already wrong, 2019′s Master and Apprentice shows Qui-Gon was offered a seat on the Council, while this book says he wasn’t). But they are SUPER FUN details to help expand the world in the meantime!

THE ANIMATED ANAKIN (#201, MAR 2021)
From swinging a pencil in place of a lightsaber to wearing retro shoes on a live-action set, Matt Lanter takes Insider on his Star Wars journey from The Clone Wars to The Mandalorian. Words: Bryan Cairns
“I actually had no idea I was auditioning for Anakin Skywalker,” says Matt Lanter of landing one of the lead roles in Lucasfilm’s animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008- 2014, 2020). “They told me the role I was reading for was a character named ‘Deak Starkiller.’ I did a quick online search but there wasn’t much out there, so I really had no idea. I remember Dave Filoni suggesting I give them my best combination of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, and that’s what got me the job. Obviously, there’s a lot of Solo swagger in The Clone Wars Anakin, a lot more than Anakin in the films.”
The show debuted as a feature-length movie in theaters in 2008, and ran for six seasons from 2008 to 2014, with a seventh and final season arriving on Disney+ early in 2020. Lanter, who is now 37, marvels that his Star Wars adventure has lasted so long.
“When I booked that job, I had no idea what was about to happen for the next decade and more of my life, and counting,” admits Lanter. “All these years later, I have so many fond memories of working on The Clone Wars. My castmates, the producers, and everybody at Lucasfilm, they’re like family to me. I made lifelong friends from making that show.”
Despite a six-year hiatus before the final season aired, Star Wars remained a constant fixture in the actor’s calendar. “I’ve traveled around the United States doing conventions with my castmates, and this may sound cheesy, but the Star Wars fandom feels like family now too. I love going to cons and meeting fans who watch the show with their kids. There’s so much in Star Wars to love, and it’s so inclusive of everybody.”
Set in the period between the movies Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (2002) and Revenge of the Sith (2005), The Clone Wars pitched Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and his comrades-in-arms against legions of battle droids, the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and the ruthless Sith. Lanter took on the role originated in the live-action movies by Canadian-born actor Hayden Christensen, but the long-running nature of the television series allowed him to expand on his predecessor’s take on Anakin.
“I went to Skywalker Ranch and sat down with George Lucas, and we talked about the character and where we wanted to go with him,” recalls Lanter. “It was a conscious decision not to copy Hayden’s performance. I would say there are influences, of course. Certain cadences and things like that. But I definitely did my own thing. I added more bravado. We made Anakin a little more charismatic, because we needed the character to take us through multiple seasons of storytelling. We wanted to show Anakin as this brave star pilot, this amazing Jedi, who was charming and funny at times. Hayden didn’t get the chance to do that in the films, because he only had so many minutes of screen time to move his character from Anakin the bratty teenager to Darth Vader, the most hated villain of all time.”
Into The Dark
Unlike live theater or on a movie set where multiple actors share a stage, it’s often the case that performers might find themselves with only a microphone for company when recording voices for animation. It was a different matter with The Clone Wars, as Lanter explains.
“It’s kind of weird. Sometimes you never even see your co-stars. I did an animated feature once where I had a love interest in the film, but to this day I have never met the other actor,” he exclaims. “But with The Clone Wars, Dave Filoni loved to get all the actors together in one room. It was like an old radio play. We would go through each scene, maybe a couple of times, and then we’d move on. We would record a 24-minute episode in three hours. After that episode was done, we would spend half an hour on pickups for previous episodes. Maybe there was a slight animation change and the vocals needed to back that up. Maybe the showrunners thought the characters would be closer, but in the final animation they’d decided they were going to be 30-feet apart and yelling at each other. So, we would go back and pickup things like that.”
The relationship between the voice artist and their microphone is not as static as one might expect. Lanter admits to sometimes getting lively and energetic in the studio, depending on what a given scene called for. “I think all voice actors do things differently,” suggests Lanter. “Some will sit down in their chair. Personally, I always stand up. I like to move a little bit, but I wouldn’t be dancing about or anything like that. You can’t really move off mic too much, but occasionally both Ashley Eckstein (who plays Ahsoka Tano in The Clone Wars) and I would grab a pencil if we had to be swinging a lightsaber around, in order to give our bodies some motion. You can hear that movement come through in your voice.”
One such physical moment in the opening arc of Season Seven saw Anakin’s darker side brought to the fore.
“I love those first few episodes with the Bad Batch,” Lanter says. “I thought they were so unique and interesting, and so cool. And there was a great moment for Anakin, where we saw him get really angry at Admiral Trench, and then put his lightsaber through Trench’s chest. I know that fans love those foreshadowing Vader moments, and so do I, because it offers that connectivity to Darth Vader and shows Anakin’s dangerous lack of self-control.
“Dave and I were always very specific about those moments, about how dark Anakin was going to get,” he continues. “Especially in the last couple of seasons, we were definitely conscious of saying, ‘Okay, this is a Vader moment. We are going there. We are doing this.’ They were done very purposefully. With Anakin, especially in the final season after putting the saber through Trench’s chest and flippantly saying something like ‘Have a nice day,’ it showed his mood swings, his ups and downs. How he can suddenly turn extremely violent and then, two seconds later, he’s back to being Jedi General Skywalker. I think that’s so Anakin.”
Live-Action Lanter
A few months before the final season of The Clone Wars was released on Disney+, Lanter made a surprise cameo appearance in Season One of The Mandalorian. He portrayed Davan, an ill-fated lieutenant in the New Republic Correctional Corps charged with guarding a prison ship packed with galactic miscreants. Forced to make a stand against a gang of mercenary infiltrators, poor Davan met a sorry end at the sharp end of a Twi’lek dagger. The role marked Lanter’s first live-action appearance in the Star Wars franchise.
“Man, that was awesome. I’m so thankful to Dave Filoni for making that happen,” says Lanter. “I got a call from my agent, and he said, ‘Hey, The Mandalorian wants to know if you want to come down and do this thing.’ I was like, ‘What? Oh, okay. That’s Dave! That’s funny!’ So, I texted Dave and said, ‘Of course, yeah!’ Who wouldn’t want to do that? And it was great. I got to be on a live-action Star Wars set, actually inside a transport ship. I was like a kid in a candy store. It was awesome, and I’m really glad the fans loved it.
“It was an amazing experience for me to be there,” Lanter adds. “I got to work with Jon Favreau, and, of course, working with Dave on live-action was cool in a different way. I’ve known him for years and years as a voice director and executive producer on our show. Dave is an amazing storyteller. He knows Star Wars. He understands characters. I went to visit the set once or twice when I wasn’t working, and got to see him directing, and it was amazing to see him in this new environment, in this new role. I messaged him a couple of months ago and told him, ‘Maybe it’s kind of weird. You hired me, but I’m so proud of you and where you’ve gone, and to see all your accomplishments.’ Dave has great things coming for him.
Lanter also enjoyed wearing his first Star Wars costume, a New Republic soldier uniform loosely inspired by the rebel trooper gear from Star Wars: A New Hope (1977), complete with familiar visored helmet, chunky belt, and disco-era footwear. “My 70’s retro shoes were awesome,” Lanter laughs. “And Mayfield’s line about them, ‘Nice shoes. Matches his belt,’ that was not scripted. That was something Bill Burr threw in there, and they kept it in. It ended up being a fun little extra moment, where they pan down to my shoes. I had a great time, although I couldn’t tell anyone about it. That was the hardest part. As with all things Star Wars that I do, I can end up going a year and a half without telling anyone anything.” Despite The Clone Wars reaching its inevitable conclusion, finally synching with the events of Revenge of the Sith, Lanter isn’t entirely prepared to hang up his lightsaber and say goodbye to the Chosen One. “I’ve loved working with Dave, and with the whole Star Wars family,” Lanter concludes. “It’s been such an amazing experience for me as an actor. The Clone Wars is perfection in my eyes. I’m certainly not ready to put Anakin away forever.”
ANAKIN, MEET… ANAKIN?! WHAT HAPPENED WHEN TWO SKYWALKERS FINALLY MET?
“Obviously, that’s a question I get asked all the time,” says Matt Lanter. “Everybody wants to know if I’ve met Hayden Christensen, and what he thought of my performance in The Clone Wars.” That question was finally answered in 2019, when both actors were booked to appear at Star Wars Celebration Chicago. “I had never met him before,” Lanter confirms, “and he couldn’t have been any nicer. Wherever we’re doing the convention stuff, there’s a nice green room in the back of the convention center where they set up snacks for all the Star Wars actors and talent. Hayden was back there, and he came up to me and said hello. He told me, ‘I love what you guys are doing. Thanks for keeping Star Wars alive.’ We got our picture taken together, which I know a lot of people loved when they saw it online.”
COSTUME CONUNDRUM: WHICH IS COOLER, CLOAKS OR CAPES?
Voicing the animated version of Anakin Skywalker meant Matt Lanter never got to wear his character’s signature Jedi robes, but that doesn’t mean he does not have an opinion on the practicality of Jedi attire.
“Those Jedi cloaks are kind of cool,” says the actor when Insider asked if he has a preference. “I’m going to say cloaks, because I’ve actually had to wear a cape for some parts, and sometimes a cape is not great in a fight scene. I have dressed as Obi-Wan Kenobi with a cloak for Halloween, though” he says, adding, “I already had a monk costume and repurposed it the next year. People still thought I was dressed as a monk, though.”

All 11 Lightsaber Color Meanings
All 11 Lightsaber Color Meanings [Ultimate Star Wars Guide]By
Arthur S. Poe
/ September 4, 2021
Lightsabers are an all-important asset in George Lucas’ fictional world of Star Wars. They are a weapon used predominantly by Force users, be their Jedi or the Sith, but there are some variations that have been used by other characters.
The fact that they are mostly used by Force users is explained by fact that they are actually very hard to control for people who don’t have a strong connection to the Force. They are not heavy or anything, but total control over a lightsaber requires a lot of skill, which is why “regular” characters usually avoid them, although there have been instances in the Expanded Universe where non-Force users used a lightsaber in combat.
1 second of 15 secondsVolume 0%
The movies initially presented three different lightsaber colors – blue, green, and red – but this was expanded as the franchise developed and now we have several different iterations of Lightsaber colors.
We are bringing you a list of lightsaber colors, as well as their meanings and the most famous users. You’re also going to find out a bit about the process of making a lightsaber and how the color is actually determined.
How Are Lightsabers Made?
Lightsabers are an essential part of the Star Wars mythology. We have explained that they are generally used by the Jedi and the Sith, although there are some variations of the weapon used by non-Force users in the franchise. The lightsaber is a weapon used for both offense and defense, which makes it a very practical tool to have when in trouble.
Now, the mechanics behind a functional lightsaber are quite complex and they require a lot of skill to compose properly. This is why there aren’t many lightsabers around.
In order to function properly, a lightsaber needs to draw power from an appropriately-sized power cell. Parts that are usually used to make a lightsaber include modulation circuits and an energy gate. The essential parts are a blade emitter shroud, the emitter matrix, and some type of activator to turn the weapon on and off. Additional, but non-essential parts include handgrip ridges and a blade length adjuster. Some lightsabers also had a non-lethal low-power setting used for training.
Single-bladed lightsabers generally had a belt ring so they could be hung from the wearer’s belt hook, or a wheel-shaped attachment that slotted into a matching belt clip on the owner’s belt when not in use. This way is quite practical, if you think about it.
Some specially designed lightsabers could even use unstable kyber crystals; an example of such a lightsaber was Kylo Ren’s lightsaber, which featured two laterally facing vents designed to divert excess energy away from the cracked crystal and keep the lightsaber stable.
During assembly, it was important to not accidentally invert the emitter matrix; when activated the lightsaber’s power grid would backfire. At best this could cause the blade to quickly short out, but if it was left on, the faulty weapon would violently explode, potentially killing those in close proximity.
What Are Kyber Crystals?
Alongside the complex mechanics, a kyber crystal is basically the essence of a lightsaber as it is its main source of power, the “thing” that produces the saber itself. Kyber crystals are actually rare, Force-attuned crystals that grow in nature and can be found on scattered planets across the whole galaxy.
They were likewise used by both the Jedi and the Sith in the construction of their lightsabers, although the latter had to put the crystal through a painful adaptation procedure.
As part of their Jedi training, younglings were sent to the Crystal Cave of the ice planet of Ilum, probably the most famous source of kyber crystals, to mine crystals in order to construct their own lightsabers. The crystal’s mix of unique luster was called “the water of the kyber” by the Jedi. There were also larger, rarer crystals of great power and that, according to legends, were used at the heart of ancient superweapons by the Sith.
Although they all had the same denominator, kyber crystals appeared in different types and, through history, a lot of different types of kyber crystals have been discovered and described. The known types are:
Adegan crystal
Barab ingot
Christophsis crystal
Corrupted crystal
Cracked Jedha crystal
Dantari crystal
Dragite gem
Ghostfire crystal
Ilum crystal
Kimber stone
Krayt dragon pearl
Lorrdian gemstone
Nishalorite stone
Obsidian
Seeker crystal
Solari crystal
Sorian crystal
Synthetic kyber crystal
Tainted Nightsister Crystal
Thontiin crystal
Varpeline crystal
Zophis crystal
Mephite crystal
Mephite crystal
Pontite crystal
As Master Yoda once said: “The heart of the lightsaber, the crystal is.” This short piece of wisdom tells us just how important the crystal is and how it, actually, determines the saber’s nature. This is why there are so many different types of lightsabers based on their colors.
Known Lightsaber Colors and Their Meanings
As of today, there are 11 main lightsaber colors that have been identified in the Star Wars franchise. Some of them have specific subtypes, but the majority has just the base form. The table below is going to present the main colors and their basic subtypes where applicable:
Not what we have given you a brief overview of the colors, we can continue with our article and elaborate what each of the colors means and what each of them actually represents. We’re going to be approaching the colors in the order they are listed in the table above.
Blue Lightsaber Meaning
In modern times, lightsaber colors really don’t have the same weight as they had in ancient times and the interpretations of each color are based on their historical importance rather than on their modern significance, although Lucas and the other authors tried to keep the symbolism in modern characters.
In that aspect, a blue lightsaber, which is also the most common one seen in the galaxy, represents what was historically known as a Jedi Guardian, the protector of the Jedi Order and a person that embodied bravery and righteousness. Jedi Guardians were fighters and they vehemently defended the ways of the Jedi, and the blue color of their sabers represents those qualities in them.
The two most famous owners of a blue lightsaber are Obi-Wan Kenobi, who is the perfect example of the qualities described above, and his former Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader. Luke Skywalker and Rey had a blue lightsaber for a while, and even General Grievous, who had been trained by Count Dooku, had a pair of blue lightsabers.
Green Lightsaber Meaning
The green lightsaber has usually been associated with the most powerful Jedi Knights. Unlike the blue lightsaber, which is usually associated with fighters and soldiers, the green lightsaber represents wisdom and skill. It is usually associated with Jedi who have a strong connection to the Force.
Owners of a green lightsaber are experienced and wise, they have a deep and fundamental understanding of the Force and they are usually among the higher ranking Jedi Knights. They value harmony and rely more on their mental skills than their fighting skills. That is why they are usually held in very high regard and are among the most respected Jedi Knights in the whole franchise.
By far the most famous owner of a green lightsaber was Jedi Grandmaster Yoda, who is considered to be the most powerful Jedi in history. Yoda was the embodiment of all the qualities associated with a green lightsaber, which is why he is the best example for this section.
Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn also had a green lightsaber and had it not been for his rebellious and unorthodox nature, he would have certainly been a member of the Council.
Luke Skywalker also owned a green lightsaber later in his life. Interestingly enough, General Grievous also had a pair of green lightsabers, but like the blue ones, they bore no significance for him.
Red Lightsaber Meaning
History has taught us that kyber crystals had such a strong connection to the Force that they were, practically, sentient objects. With that in mind, we also have to remember the fact that kyber crystals resisted the Sith and there was no natural way for the Sith to control a kyber crystal. The only was for them to do it was to use the Force to subjugate the crystal in a process that was very painful for both the Sith and the crystal.
Since the kyber crystal would “bleed” during the process, the crystal would change color and become red. Thus, a red kyber crystal doesn’t really embody evil, but it does represent pain and suffering, both traits characteristic of the Dark Side of the Force. It also embodies all of the hate a Sith used to make the kyber crystal “bleed”. This is the reason why a red lightsaber is exclusively associated with the Sith since such traits aren’t really characteristic of the Light Side of the Force.
Historically, all Sith Lords are associated with the red lightsaber, with some of them even having more exotic designs, like Darth Maul or Kylo Ren. Darth Sidious is by far the most powerful user of a red lightsaber, with Darth Vader, his apprentice, being very close. Count Dooku, after leaving the Jedi and going to the Dark Side, also used a red lightsaber.
Purple (Amethyst) Lightsaber Meaning
The story of the purple lightsaber is very interesting, as its origins can actually be found off-screen. Namely, Lucas never intended on introducing a purple lightsaber to the canon, but Samuel L. Jackson, who played Mace Windu in the Prequel Trilogy, wanted his lightsaber to be purple because purple was his favorite color. Lucas agreed and that is how this color was actually introduced into the franchise, which means that it initially had absolutely no meaning.
Still, the Expanded Universe authors retroactively gave the color meaning, stating that a purple lightsaber represented moral ambiguity, uncertainty, and reconstruction; this was due to the fact that purple is a combination of red and blue. What does this ultimately mean?
It means that a character with a purple lightsaber has connections to both the Light and the Dark Side of the Force. Such Force users have usually been quite powerful as they had to endure the temptation of the other side in order to maintain their personal path.
Although Mace Windu, by far the most famous owner of a purple lightsaber, wasn’t really ambiguous – he held the values of the Jedi Order in high regard – he did have his moments and he was far less composed than, for example, Yoda or Qui-Gon. Still, he was exceptionally powerful and his ability to stay on the path of the Jedi despite his lightsaber color proves that. Another famous owner of a purple lightsaber was the Rodian Jedi Knight Huulik.
Black Lightsaber (Darksaber) Meaning
A black lightsaber, also called a Darksaber, is actually a unique lightsaber; there is only one example in existence. The Darksaber is shaped like a traditional sword and it’s somewhat shorter than an actual lightsaber; still, it is without a doubt a subtype of a lightsaber. The Darksaber is associated with Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian Jedi, who created the Darksaber as a one-of-a-kind weapon.
The weapon represented the Mandalorians’ fight against the Jedi and was a very powerful tool in battle; it also represented the emotions of the Mandalorians (something the Jedi avoided) and their murderous rivalry with the Jedi. At one point, the Darksaber was taken by the Jedi and kept under lock, until it was stolen by the Mandalorians and returned to the descendants of Tarre Vizsla.
The owner of the Darksaber also claims the title of the ruler of the Mandalorians and the only way to legitimately claim ownership over it is to defeat the former owner in combat (i.e., kill them).
As far as the famous owners are concerned, the Expanded universe as well as the TV shows have shown us that it has been owned by Tarre Vizsla, Pre Vizsla, and Sabine Wren among others. The Mandalorian has also established Moff Gideon and Din Djarin as its owners.
White Lightsaber Meaning
Although not completely unique, white lightsabers are among the rarest in the whole galaxy. The only two notable examples are, in fact, Ahsoka Tano’s white lightsabers. They represent neutrality and autonomy; while they are associated with the Light Side of the Force, they represent an individual who has cut ties with the Jedi despite remaining on the Light Side, and an individual that has no connection to the Dark Side of the Force.
An interesting thing here is that a white kyber crystal, the basis for a white lightsaber, is not natural, but is created by reversing the process with which the Sith create red kyber crystals.
Namely, by using the Force, an individual is able to purify a red kyber crystal, removing the Sith’s influence from it. During that process, the crystal loses its red color and instead becomes white, remaining completely usable. This form of purification also has its symbolic value, as stated above.
Ahsoka Tano is not only the most famous, but also te only known user of a white lightsaber. She was able to purify the red kyber crystals from the Sixth Brother’s weapon, thus creating two neutral, white crystals which she used in her lighsabers.
Yellow Lightsaber Meaning
Along with the white lightsaber, a yellow lightsaber is among the rarest in the galaxy. It is not certain what this color actually represents, since it has never been explained by anyone, but we do know that a purified red kyber crystal (which was done by Jaden Korr) turned yellow on one occasion.
That is interesting because the purified color was later changed to white, as per the section above. Jedi Sentinels, the powerful protectors of the Jedi Temple, are usually associated with a double-bladed yellow lightsaber, but their story doesn’t really reveal much about the origins and the symbolism behind one of the franchise’s rarest lightsaber colors.
The powerful Asajj Ventress was the owner of a yellow lightsaber at one point, as was Ahsoka Tano. Still, most people will probably identify Rey, the protagonist of the Sequel Trilogy, as the most famous yellow lightsaber owner, as she is the only one among the three to have appeared in the main movies. The Jedi Sentinels, who guard the Jedi Temple, also use yellow kyber crystals for their weapons.
Orange Lightsaber Meaning
Due to it also being extremely rare, we don’t know much about the orange lightsaber. We know that it was canon before the great Disney purge and that it has appeared in the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order video game, but there isn’t actually any precise theory on its origins or its meaning. One theory states that it is a rarely used color because it is owned by those who have sworn not to use their weapons unless absolutely necessary.
This would mean that the orange lightsaber represents pacifism. Another theory, on the other hand, states that it was used by the Sith in the early days, but that practice has since been abandoned. Connected to this is the theory that an orange lightsaber contains a partially purified red kyber crystal which still contains traces of its original redness. The game guide, finally, states that an orange lightsaber represents a character with a void inside them, doomed never to be filled.
Whatever the correct theory might be, we’ll have to wait for it, as the current canon doesn’t really tell us much. Yaddle (the female Yoda that had a cameo in the Prequel Trilogy) had an orange lightsaber and it is also associated with Cal Kestis since Fallen Order came out.
Other Colors
As for the other colors that are mentioned in the table but have not been addressed individually, the reason behind that decision is because we have no story to tell. These other colors, as well as some non-canon ones (like gold or bronze), have appeared in the franchise, but the stories never really revealed much about them so we have no clue that they represent. There are certainly going to be more colors in the future so we’ll update the article as they appear, but this is everything we know about the current canon colors of lightsabers in the Star Wars franchise.
Thank you for reading, please follow me and send me a message about you favorite color or which color is yours!

swoon june day 8: hands
“Got it,” he says, jumping out of the bed with a speed she isn’t entirely convinced isn’t aided by the Force. She doesn’t complain, though. Just lays her head back on the pillow and smiles in contentment.
She thought it would wear off by now. Everyone told her it would. That his eagerness to be the one to tend to the babies every night would trail off and be replaced by groans and complaining.
They were going on six months, though, and Anakin was as happy to lull the twins back to sleep now as he was the first night they brought them home.
The crying stops within minutes, which means it must have been Leia. She never cries longer than absolutely necessary. There’s a hesitancy to the way she expresses her emotions, like she has so much to give but isn’t quite sure if the galaxy is able to handle it. Padmé is familiar with the sentiment. She sleeps next to it every night.
She waits a few more minutes, then pulls back the covers and slips her feet to the floor. It’s a short walk to the nursery, but she steps slowly and as quietly as she can. He left the door open so she stops just on the other side of it, her back flush against the wall of the hallway.
He’s singing.
Padmé smiles at catching him in this talent he’s too embarrassed to show anyone over the age of six months apparently. She recognises the tune from the nights before. Always the same song, rough huttese bent and flattened into smooth melody. His voice rumbles on and Padmé can’t help but peer around the corner of the door.
It’s Leia, like she’d guessed. The infant is curled up on Anakin’s chest as he reclines in the rocker. Her head bumps along the bottom of his chin as she shifts, leftover sniffles from whatever nightmare it was that had woken her up. His metal hand–an ungloved rarity–catches underneath her, hoisting her up. His other hand lightly trails down her face, tracing her nose.
Padmé’s heart constricts as she watches him sing and study their daughter. There’s a warmth about Anakin she’s always had the privilege of knowing–but she’s overjoyed that his circle has expanded. That there will one day be another woman who knows what it’s like to be loved by Anakin Skywalker.
His finger moves down Leia’s tiny, upturned nose to her lips. He traces those, too, and Padmé watches as he then lifts his finger to his own lips and kisses it. Then drops the finger back to Leia’s mouth. A satisfied sort of snort comes from Leia and Padmé has to stifle a giggle behind her hand.
Anakin’s head turns toward the door and locks eyes with her.
“Spying again?”
“Well,” she says, stepping fully into the room, “see, I heard this voice singing. I had to know where it came from. Couldn't help it.”
“Right,” he says, rolling his eyes.
“And what good fortune,” she continues, with a grin, “turns out he’s got a cute baby and he’s not too bad looking himself.”
He grins in return. “I’ve got two cute babies, actually.” He holds out his hand and she takes it. “But as it turns out...I also already have a wife. She works really hard to keep the galaxy in one piece, so she’d probably be a little upset to hear that a random woman was hitting on me in the middle of the night.”
“Hm,” Padmé says, lightly, “your wife seems nice.”
Anakin tugs on her hand until she’s sitting sideways in the chair with him. Leia squirms a bit on his chest and reaches out with a fist. It finds residence in the folds of Padmé’s gown. Padmé moves to replace the fabric with her own finger, then watches as Anakin wraps his own hand around hers and Leia’s.
This hand that has crushed droids and crashed starfighters. It has catalogued thousands of hours spinning a lightsaber around it and learned how to make the Force bend to it’s will, for better or for worse. More recently, it has killed a Sith Lord and independently restored balance to the entire galaxy.
Padmé thinks it’s much better suited to holding and caressing than killing and destroying.
She shifts her head so she can look at him, really look at him. He blinks back at her with a smile so soft she’s not quite sure how he was ever targeted by the Sith and drops a kiss to her forehead, then one to Leia’s.
Behind them, there’s a whimper. Because if Leia has inherited her father’s propensity for emotional suppression, Luke has inherited his need for attention.
“I've got it,” Padmé says, smiling and clamoring up from the chair. Anakin hums in response, but his finger is already tracing back down the bridge of Leia’s nose, watching with fascination as her eyes flutter shut.
Padmé leans over Luke’s bassinet. “Hello, my sunshine,” she whispers, pulling him up and close to her. Blue eyes blink up sleepily, but happily, at her. “Ani, when are you going to get around to teaching them that three in the morning is not breakfast time?”
Anakin doesn’t respond or seem to even hear her. Padmé looks and sees that he is still fixated on Leia. As she walks back toward him, she hears the first line of his lullaby, the tune hushed and rasping as he cups Leia’s face and rubs his thumb back and forth across her cheek.
The chair isn’t even close to being big enough for four of them, but Padmé drops into it nonetheless, needing to be complete and whole for this moment. Luke coos and sighs against her neck as she adjusts, laying her legs lightly over Anakin’s.
“I love you,” she says, as he continues to sing.
And the words change–from Huttese to Basic, from unfamiliar and foreign to warm and personal.
“You are the best of me, and the best of me is for you.”

Whumpay 2021 Day 3 Prompt: Crying into Chest
“Are you sure about this?” Rex asked for the fifth time, drawing Ahsoka’s gaze away from the viewport, to where he sat in the copilot’s seat, eyebrows furrowed.
Ahsoka sighed, slumping back slightly in her chair.
“Not really,” she admitted. The glare of Tatooine’s twin suns shone through the transparisteel viewport, casting Rex’s form in a bright yellow glow. Ahsoka was sorely tempted to shield her eyes, but she was desperate to look into the open expanse of sand, for any sign of anyone—
She turned back to Rex, eyes watering.
“If he survived, he would be here,” she said. “Anakin never really liked it here, but…this was his home, and I just have a feeling, Rex.”
Rex gave her a short nod in response. “Do you want me to come with you?”
“No,” she replied, and she stood, picking up the cloak draped over the back of her chair. “Best not to risk it, considering…”
“Yeah.” Rex’s voice was rough, barely anything more than a whisper. Since Mandalore, since the Order, he and Ahsoka had realized that his face—the face of a clone—was simply too recognizable, which made laying low a bit more…complicated.
“I’ll be back,” she said. “I just need to know if—”
If he survived. If anyone survived.
Rex nodded.
Ahsoka managed a quick smile, and then she turned away, rushing out of the cockpit, into the blistering heat of Tatooine’s day.
----------------------------------
Tatooine was just as dry as she remembered.
Ahsoka didn’t really know much about it, if she was being honest with herself. She’d only been to Tatooine a handful of times, and there hadn’t been any time to explore, let alone adjust to the heat of the suns.
Pulling the edges of her cloak closer together, Ahsoka pressed forward, closer to Mos Eisley. There was a pair of Rodians talking animatedly to each other close to the entrance gate, a Twi’Lek racing past, cloak flapping in the air, and then a small Weequay standing against one of the buildings, smoking pipe in hand.
Ahsoka sighed and turned away.
Even if Anakin was here, somehow, where would she begin to look? The Force was—well, all her attempts to try and find his presence resulted in her encountering the horrifying darkness that bled took over, and she couldn’t bear it at all.
It was just…too much.
Shaking her head, Ahsoka continued moving forward, only to stop a split-second later at the sound of quiet footsteps behind her. Slowly, she turned around, squinting into the glare of the suns to find—
Nothing. There was no one behind her.
That couldn’t be right; she was so sure, and it wasn’t like it was easy for most people to sneak up on her and then just disappear.
Not many people could do that, except—
Taking a deep breath, Ahsoka walked away from Mos Eisley, keeping her footsteps sure and precise. Whoever it was would follow, she was sure of it. It was only a matter of time.
As she continued walking further and further away from the stragglers outside of the city, Ahsoka wondered if she’d imagined it all. It was likely—maybe a part of her hoped that there would be someone here, or that she would somehow figure out what to do, now that everything was different.
She just didn’t know where to go or what to do from here.
There was the sound of a footstep behind her, and then a voice, achingly familiar.
“Ahsoka.”
Mid-step, she froze.
Then, she turned.
“It is you.” The familiar, accented voice was dry, almost on the verge of cracking, but—
“Obi-Wan?” she managed, voice wobbling. “You survived.”
Her former Grandmaster stood a few feet away, face half-hidden under his robe. Obi-Wan carried a bag over his shoulder and an unfamiliar-looking pouch on his belt, along with his lightsaber, half-hidden by his robe.
Obi-Wan didn’t reply or even move.
“Where is Anakin?” she asked, taking a step forward. “Is he with you, or—”
“No.” Obi-Wan’s eyes flickered away, to something far behind Ahsoka. “I’m sorry; I…”
His mouth snapped shut, and he continued standing there, looking a little lost. Ahsoka had never really seen him like that before, and something about it made it seem as though all the hope in the galaxy had been destroyed in one fell swoop.
“Oh.” Ahsoka’s voice trembled.
The only reason Obi-Wan would come here would be if he felt as though he owed something to Anakin’s memory, which meant that—
Ahsoka opened her mouth to reply, to say something, but all that came out was a quiet sob.
Obi-Wan’s eyes softened, and something inside of Ahsoka broke.
She didn’t really remember racing forward, or even when exactly the tears started falling from her eyes, but the next thing she knew, Ahsoka was crying—sobbing—into Obi-Wan’s shoulder.
Obi-Wan was trembling, and when Ahsoka reached tentatively into the Force, she felt an odd hollowness from his presence, contrasting sharply with the steady warmth she remembered from weeks ago, before everything fell apart.
She never, never thought that so much would change, that she would lose everything that quickly, and now—
“I’m sorry,” Obi-Wan whispered, voice shuddering with unfamiliar grief. “I’m so sorry.”

| i’m still holding on, neon
→ KANERA WEEK 2021 DAY ONE, PROMPT: TROUBLE
pairing: kanan jarrus/hera syndulla
words: 3.4k
rating: t, for swearing and mentions of alcohol
summary: after nine long years, padawan caleb dume kanan jarrus is met with a friend from his past at the jedi temple, fellow (almost) padawan hera syndulla.
(shoutout to @kananjarrus-jediknight who helped let this au get way out of hand with me)
The neon light from the sign of Old Jho’s blinks unsteady, or maybe it doesn’t – Kanan’s head is still feeling pretty swayed. It was definitely the last drink he had – that had to be it, definitely not the long assortment of liquors that came before that one. That guy was just too pretty and his skin was so blue and his eyes were so–
His hand grabs at the outside wall of the bar, steadying himself and barely preventing him from crashing head over heels into the dusty Lothal street. He takes in a shaky breath, the fresh air would clear him up, get him ready to go back in. If the ground could just stop moving then maybe–
“Excuse me–”
And, with those two words alone, it’s like something wakes him up, the fog on his mind lifts, the heaviness in his eyes is gone – The kind of clarity, the instantaneous kind that only ever came from the Force.
And that voice, he knows that voice. He does. It’s different, but…
He turns to it.
This time he’s sure the Lothal moons above are shining within his chest.
It’s her.
“Caleb?” She says, the name dropping from her lips before she has the chance to compose herself. Her lekku go rigid.
He hadn’t heard anyone speak that name in nine years. In fact, he’d come to terms with the fact that he never would hear it again.
The look in those green eyes of hers only say one thing, the same thing that slips from his own mouth,
“You’re alive?”
She doesn’t quite nod but her eyebrows knit closer together in fondness. She’s seeing a ghost. Looking at him, but through him too.
He goes to take a step towards her and suddenly all the blood rushes to his head and the alcohol finally catches up to him. She dives to attempt an intercept before he crashes head first into the ground. She misses him by a second.
“Oh shit,” She mutters under her breath. You could’ve caught him with the F–
Thank goodness the sound of the bar muffles any of the noise they’ve just made. The dust she kicked up finally settles.
They, she thinks. But she nips it in the bud before she thinks too much more about it. Right now she needed to wipe off the stray dirt and was that - yup. A bar nut shell that had stuck to his shoe. Yup, that was Caleb Dume. Clearly they had a lot of catching up to do. It was taking everything in her not to just skim the top of his consciousness. It was funny, in the Force he felt the same.
He was dead to the world. She would definitely need to check his head when they made it back to her ship. Chopper wasn’t going to let her hear the end of it either but then again, she had told him before about the little boy who tried too hard to be her friend back at the Temple. It’s not like she had a lot of other people to talk to.
Geez, he wasn’t very easy to maneuver when he was deadweight. She does eventually manage to get him slung around her shoulder, his boots scratching against the scattered road on their path back to her pride and joy. The Ghost.
She was just hoping Caleb was still as eager to joke with her, because she wasn’t going to let him live down the fact that she had just carried him back to her ship because he was too plastered to do so himself.
Something in her did whisper that she had more of an influence in him passing out than anything else. She squashes the thought down as quickly as it came up, however.
She could still hear them teasing one another in the back of her brain. She catches a quick glance at his face, his facial features are more defined now, the bridge of his name is the same and his facial hair was surprisingly well kept. His eyelashes are still ridiculously long, for a male of any species.
His brows furrow momentarily and she looks away within an instant, he doesn’t wake though. Only stirring, but the good news was that the Ghost was now in view.
She fiddles in her pocket with her free hand to grab her commlink. She was really hoping he wouldn’t wake up, because even thinking about explaining the current situation was hurting her brain. Doing that when he was laying down in her ship’s medbay sounded a lot more manageable.
She presses the commlink, and in just a bit more than a whisper, “Chop, I’m back. Can you drop the ramp for me?”
She holds her breath, hoping to not be met with her droid’s usual attitude or for Caleb to wake.
The droid’s reply crackles over the comm and the ramp lowers.
“Come on,” She whispers to her friend, as she helps them both onto the ship. Grateful in that moment that she found a spot to dock that wasn’t too far out of the city. And it wasn’t like someone being drunkenly carried out of a cantina wasn’t a usual sight these days. Everyone had to deal with the Empire one way or another. It was just a stroke of luck there wasn’t a big Imperial presence around this part of the city tonight.
It’s more than luck, Hera. You know that.
As the ramp closes in behind her, her droid wheels into the room. Asking her colourfully worded questions in binary.
“This,” She replies, beelining for the medbay. “Would be my old friend.”
He stinks like behind a bar, her droid replies.
“Oh really?” Hera says, glaring at her droid. “I hadn’t noticed!”
She kicks off her boots, with Caleb still resting on her, she was really starting to ache from doing that.
“Maybe you could help me get him out of this room. So he can wake up without passing out on me this time!”
Chopper grumbles something, but obliges. She knew he was only annoyed because he could tell she hadn’t done what she set out to do this evening. But knowing he was alive kind of intercepted her plans. Besides, there was always tomorrow and maybe, just maybe Caleb would tag along and help her. Maybe.
She wasn’t about to go and get ahead of herself, but gosh that creeping hopeful feeling in her chest wasn’t any kind of help. She had to be more realistic. The world around her had taught her that all too quickly.
By the time she gets him to the medbay, he practically flops out of her arms and onto the bed, face down again. She lets out a sigh before rolling him over. Chopper complains something about him dirting the floor and shoves his legs up onto the bed properly. Definitely far rougher than Hera would've been. She really shouldn’t be surprised by that anymore, and after all, this was the first person she’d ever brought on the ship. There was always going to be some animosity.
She blinks herself back to the current moment only to realise her hand is still resting on Caleb’s arm. Her droid chirps at her accusingly.
“Chop, wait here,” She says, running a hand over the top of her droid’s head before running from the room. Clearly acting on an idea she had yet to share.
She returns with one of the spare blankets from the storage hold. And one of her mugs from the ship’s kitchen area.
You’re letting him stay here? Her droid asks her in an accusatory tone.
“He passed out, Chop!” She says, in something of a whisper-yell. “I couldn’t just leave him there. Besides, it’s not like anyone came out looking for him! I just wanted to,” She doesn’t really know where she was going with this.
She places the blanket over him, she places the blanket over him. “I just wanted to make sure he was okay.”
Right.
She huffs, before getting out the painkillers that she knew he was going to need when he woke up. Hera hadn’t been drunk many times and certainly never as much as Caleb was right now, but the fact that he was going to be met with both a hangover and his long-lost and most likely presumed dead best friend, well, it didn’t hurt to tread on the side of caution.
She fills the mug with water and leaves it next to him. And props herself up on the counter, it was late but she felt too awake.
The sight of him made her heart sit firmly in her throat. It brought back all of these memories and feelings she thought she had laid to rest a long time ago. Of inside jokes, of teachers long gone and stories told in a hush between their fellow younglings, of an ache so strong that it felt like nothing in the world would ever make it go away.
Or maybe, it just felt long enough ago now that it was easier to distract herself from.
Either way, it was a lot.
You going to sleep anytime soon? Her droid asks.
She laughs, “Eventually.”
She runs a hand over her face, before sighing into it. That was a lie and Chopper knew it as well as she did.
“You can power down for the night if you want. I’ll be okay.”
She crosses her feet together, bouncing them against the cupboards she’s sitting on.
Chopper makes a sound like a sigh and reluctantly he beeps out a goodnight. To be honest, she was expecting more resistance from him but today had been interesting for both of them.
With her droid offline for the evening, well, probably morning now. She still wasn’t quite adjusted to Lothal time. Which would make tomorrow even more exciting if she was going to get hyperlag.
Well, if she wasn’t going to sleep she might as well get something productive done. Read more into the intel she’d been given. She presses off the counter and makes her way back into the kitchen. Right now, it was time for caf.
There’s something restless in her as she waits for it to heat up. She didn’t feel right not waiting in the room, this was going to be worse if Caleb woke up and she wasn’t there. Standing still wasn’t doing anything for her nerves, which usually weren’t a problem.
She was supposed to be more in control with this kind of thing. She closes her eyes and draws into the Force, deliberately drawing in a deep breath.
Calm down, Hera.
New distraction, change into more comfortable clothes. As she does, she feels all too aware of the drawer near her bed where she kept her lightsaber. She hadn’t touched it in years but for the first time in a while she doesn’t tune out the singing the crystal makes.
Once she pulls her shirt over her head and over her lekku, the caf blips a sound in the air that it's done and by the time she’s changed it’s been just long enough that her drink was going to be the perfect temperature. She smiles to herself before cradling the mug in her hands.
With Chopper powered down for the night and not trundling behind her, it was really quiet on this big ship.
The door to the medbay slides open and sure enough, Caleb is still sleeping. His head resting against his shoulder, the blanket still covering him. He must have moved a lot in his sleep because his hair is now loose around his face.
He looks peaceful.
But, just to be sure, she hops back up on the counter so she has a good view of him. Just in case, she tells herself.
She aimlessly scrolls through the Holonet catching up on the news of the day. Nothing really of substance, more Imperial presence in the Lothal sector. Which could make things more difficult but if she could make up for the lost time today then she wouldn’t really have to worry about that much.
She takes a sip of her caf, and this time exits out of the Holonet and into the files shared with her and an unopened message from her contact.
The rest of the night passes without much out of the ordinary. She almost falls asleep at one point but the sound of someone sitting up in the bed wakes her back up.
So, Caleb Dume was the kind of drunk that woke up in the early hours of the morning.
“Good morning,” She says, looking up from the datapad.
He blinks hard a couple of times, and yawns. Then he finally focuses on who’s in front of him.
“Hera?”
She nods, a smile on her face. His voice holds far more emotion than just the name he asks. He seems to be taking in the surrounding of the repurposed room turned medbay. It wasn’t like she had the chance to ask him to come back to her ship. But, she wasn’t going to leave him there either. What kind of friend did that?
“Yeah, it’s me,” She answers, voice soft.
He nods to himself, his mind is clouded in the Force. It practically radiates off him.
“So you made it out, too?” He asks, his voice hoarse from the previous night.
She nods a couple times, before crossing her legs up on the counter and setting aside her datapad.
“We don’t have to talk about that right now,” She starts, considering she hadn’t really spoken any of it out loud ever, she didn’t expect him to do the same right now. He also still looked half asleep. “But I do think you should have some water.”
He scoffs, and she motions with her head to the mug she put beside him earlier.
“Thanks,” He says, lifting it in her direction. He downs it all. “So, about last night,”
He rubs a hand into his temple.
“Yeah,” She says in a laugh, looking at the wall beside her. “I’m just surprised you made it up those stairs out of the bar.”
“You’ve been there before?”
“Not exactly, but I did check the building’s layout before leaving last night.”
He raises an eyebrow at her. There was so much else they could be talking about right now, and here they both were discussing a local bar.
“Oh really?”
“Yeah, really. I kind of had plans last night, well that was before you passed out on me.”
He cringes, crinkling his nose. Just like back at the temple, like he’d been caught out asking too many questions.
“Sorry about that.”
She jumps down from the counter finally. He seemed open enough, but she didn’t want to push it.
“Look, I’m just happy you didn’t throw up on me.”
That earns a laugh from him.
“Also, I think you should probably have those, Caleb.” She says pointing to the container of tablets next to him.
“Kanan,” He says, correcting her.
“What?”
“My name is Kanan, now.” His voice seems stronger now.
Her mouth drops open, she hadn’t expected that. But then again, it did make sense. She never considered changing her name, it’s not like she’d even been formally made a padawan. Her name was hers alone. It hurt her to know that he no longer thought the same.
“I’m sorry.” Is all she can offer him. As much as she was trying to be composed it was proving to be more difficult than she had accounted for.
That and the more Ca – Kanan – seemed to come to, the grief in the room seemed to be pressing down harder and harder. The turtleneck she changed into feels tighter.
She finally looks at him again, and the sadness in those eyes of his feels like something is tearing in her chest.
“So, you’ve been alone too,” He says before she gets the chance to.
She tips her head to the side, getting a better read on him, just as he was doing the same for her.
“Well, apart from Chopper… yeah. You?”
He takes a beat before answering.
“Yeah,” His blue green eyes are focusing in, “I can’t lie, I’m still not really used to it.”
That was an invitation, Hera. Keep the conversation going, She thinks.
“Neither,” She replies. “It’s hard to forget how occupied life used to be.”
There was the lump in the back of her throat again.
“Hah, you can say that again.”
He looks up from the ground, and meets Hera’s gaze.
“I still can’t believe you’re alive.”
His voice breaks as he says that. I wish I knew you were, all this time, is what is left unsaid in that sentence.
She sucks in her bottom lip.
So, she still did that. For some reason, it offers him a sense of relief.
“I could say the same,” She finally says. The silence in the air was worse than the words they were using to fill it with. She takes a few steps closer to him. “Are you alright to stand?”
“I don’t see why not,”
Either he was lying or talking about the past was doing a good job of sobering him up.
“Follow me,” She says, opening the door to the hallway.
“You don’t want to wake your droid?”
Hera takes a look back at Chopper, remembering how much of a liking he had taken to Kanan earlier.
“Yeah, I think it’s best to leave him out of this for now.”
She hears his feet hit the ground behind her and takes that as time to leave the room, and the fact that he doesn’t hit any of the walls of the ship on their way to the cockpit is also a good sign.
“Nice ship,” He says from behind, she doesn’t need to look at him to know he means it.
“Yeah, she goes alright,” She says, tapping her hand against the entryway to the cockpit and the door slides open in front of them, “After you,”
She motions for him to enter first.
“Wow,” He says, taking in the rising sun on the horizon. Her ship was angled perfectly to capture it.
She takes a moment to really take it in too. This was her first morning on Lothal, the sun seemed brighter too. Logically, she knew it wasn’t but – still.
“So, you live here?” Hera asks.
Kanan takes a stride towards the co-pilot’s chair, and crosses his arms against the top of it, looking over his shoulder as she comes to sit in the pilot’s seat. It was far more comfortable than the bench she’d been sitting on all night and her back thanked her as soon as she sat into it.
“Eh, not really. I got a job a couple of planets over and one thing led to another and blah, blah, blah.”
She nods her head, listening to him. Closing her eyes to really take in the warmth of the sun even through the ship’s viewport.
“You can sit down if you want,” Hera says. She can feel him hovering in the spot he is, unsure whether doing so was crossing a boundary.
“This is comfortable,” He answers. “Thanks for the blanket, by the way.”
She opens her eyes to see he’s readjusted it to wrap over his shoulders like –
“You ever miss wearing them?” He asks, completely out of the blue.
Clearly, she wasn’t the only one sensing the other in the room. Even if that always had been more of her thing. She remembers first trying them on, the arms far too big for her.
“Yeah, I do.”
She looks across at him, and he’s already looking at her.
“Kanan,” She starts.
And, for the first time, hearing that from her in that voice… It was like the name he’d chosen to stay alive finally had meaning. Like his name could mean something.
“I know I said you didn’t have to talk about it, which is true and I truly don’t mind, but I have to tell you.”
Her steels her jaw, pressing her tongue to the top of her mouth to stop the tears. It was her tried and tested method.
“I didn’t think I would ever, ever see you again. And I know you feel the same way, and I know a lot has happened and we’ve both changed and chances are I really don’t know you anymore but–”
She stops herself. This was the most she had opened up to anyone in the longest time.
“But–” She hears him say. “–it feels like this was meant to happen.”
“Exactly.”
She was wrong, and for what felt like the first time, she was happy to be. Her face softens as she starts crying and when she blinks the tears away and looks at him, there’s tears in his eyes too.
They both smile at each other. Basking in all the moment has to offer. Two Jedi, two survivors finding one another.
“This is gonna be trouble, isn’t it?” He says, looking out the dawn on Lothal.
Nothing else needed to be said, Kanan answering the question Hera hadn’t been able to yet speak aloud. They’d made their way back to each other. There was no way anything in the whole galaxy would get in the way of that. They had a lot to catch up on, and it would take time.
But she had this bursting feeling that had they had that one their side.
“When have we not been?”

Star Wars: The High Republic Archetype
It seems the High Republic definitely secured its archetype when it comes to Jedi: female dual-wielder.
Granted, the dual-wielding aspect has been prominent for a while: Darth Maul, Asajj Ventress, Galen Marek, Ahsoka Tano, Prong Krell, Cal Kestis being the quickest ones that come to mind.
Nonetheless, it seems like High Republic is continuing the latest Star Wars trend of putting females at the forefront and giving them some the best tools in the Star Wars toy box; Keeve Trennis, Orla Jareni, and soon Lily Tora-Asi being the most recent examples and I thought I’d share my thoughts, opinions, and predictions about them.
Keeve Trennis
So far, I’ve had the most exposure with Trennis and character-wise she’s still lukewarm in my eyes. This is a bit disappointing because I’ve spent five issues with her and she continues to be outshined by her Master, Sskeer. Honestly, her best interactions have been with Sskeer and Batrol and I think therein lies the double-edge sword that is her ethos; she definitely seems to be a character that works best when she has someone to react to, while she, herself, is bland when she is the main focus – something which should not been when you are the protagonist. It really seems like her appeal is starts and stops superficially, as she has a great look (especially when you get a competent artist that can draw the natural appeal of her curly q half shave).
Ultimately, there could be something there but, I still wish the High Republic comic was focusing on Sskeer and or just followed the adventures of Bell Zettifar and Loden Greatstorm.
Orla Jareni
I’ll get my first taste of Orla in issue #7 of The High Republic. When it comes to Star Wars, I’ve learned to temper my expectations and really look at the series with a critical eye (even since The Last Jedi broke me…). This will be especially true because Cavan Scott will be writing her and this is the same person that has been writing Trennis.
Overall, I would almost call him a decent writer, as issue #4 has been the best piece I have read by him so far but, it has not been consistent in terms of that quality and caliber. That being she at least has a look to her to that will be striking. Haven’t seen the white lightsaber since Dave Filoni’s fan fic character, Ahsoka, obtained the color.
Lily Tora-Asi
Finally, Lily I have the most anticipation for as she is getting a manga, The Edge of Balance.
I plan on doing a thorough review for this when it comes out and this, in my eyes, has been one of the smarter steps for Star Wars as a whole. The High Republic is supposed to be a multimedia breathe of fresh air in the Star Wars universe and, the fact that Lily will be helming a canon manga installment gives credence the multimedia novel vitality of this era. I hope this will give Disney/Marvel the ingenuity to continue to look at other literary mediums to make GOOD Star Wars materials; perhaps they’ll venture into light novels, next…
That being said, this is probably the most on the nose the lightsabers have been in terms of being katanas (I thought Kanan’s was pushing it; boy was I wrong). The magna is going to be written by Shima Shinya and Justina Ireland, with art by Mizuki Sakakibara who was the mangaka on Tiger & Bunny. It should be noted that her first appearance will be in the IDW comic Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #3 coming out on April 7, 2021. While it seems to be just a cameo appearance as I have yet to see any dialogue coming from her, it’s still a nice detail to note; once again, giving credence to the multimedia aspect this the High Republic.
