When They Were Fans: When Wrestlers Were Just Fans: Part 1

We have our favorite wrestlers, but did you know that they were once like us? In this article , I will be talking about how the wrestlers that we all know and love were once fans of wrestlers and continue to be. I’ll be featuring photos of our favorite wrestlers when they were younger and them with their favorite wrestlers.

WWE Superstar, Drew McIntyre , with Bret ‘ The Hitman ’ And Yokozuna. Drew stated in his autobiography, ‘ A Chosen Destiny : My Story ’, that getting to meet Yokozuna was the first time he saw a professional wrestler in the flesh.

WWE Superstar, Chelsea Green, with Kelly Kelly. Chelsea has stated that Kelly Kelly was the reason why she got into professional wrestling. She also said that her gear is a tribute to the one time Divas Champion.

All Elite Wrestling star , Anna Jay , with The Garcia Twins ( FKA The Bella Twins ) . Anna stated that she began watching wrestling in middle school and wanted to get in the ring because of them , with her favorite twin being Nikki.

WWE Superstar, Rhea Ripley , with her cutout of The Miz. The former Women’s World Champion has said that The Miz was her all time wrestling crush.

Former WWE Superstar and Current AEW Star , Adam ‘ Edge ’ Copeland and Bret ‘ The Hitman ’ Hart. The future WWE Hall of Famer was a 19 year old up and coming wrestler when he was in the audience for a talk show appearance his hero and fellow WWE Hall of Famer was doing. Copeland says he is grateful for Hart helping him get into WWE.

Matt Cardona with the late Razor Ramon/Scott Hall and Macho Man Randy Savage. Cardona has said on social media that they were two of his favorites as a kid. He even got to hold the Intercontinental Championship when Razor was champion.

Kofi Kingston with WWE Hall of Famer and one half of The Rock N Roll Express, Ricky Morton. Kofi stated that Ricky Morton was one of his favorites and the two linked back up at Wrestlemania 33.

My Final Thoughts:

Part 1 was so fun to write. It was really cool to see that these wrestlers are fans like us. And like Rhea , my first wrestling crush was The Miz. My current one is Drew McIntyre.

Thanksgiving Divas Photoshoot 2008: Part One

In 2013, a Youtuber made a rant about WWE divas then and today's WWE divas, and he said how you got sick of watching men in underwear for 2 hours, and back then, the women in the Attitude era and Ruthless Aggression era gave you some time to remember women are hot, and now you don't care about the women because they're covered from head to toe, and he said men in today's WWE wear less than the women and asked if Vince McMahon is trying to make every man in the world gay.

These are all gifs of women in the WWE in the early 2010's who aren't really wearing much, they're even wearing equally less much than the male wrestlers in the WWE in the early 2010's wore.

Not to mention in the 80's female wrestlers in the World Wrestling Federation wore more clothes than the male wrestlers did.

I have so many issues with this guy's mostly bullshit video.

Conchúr White — Swirling Violets (Bella Union)

Conchúr White sings with a breathless, tremulous urgency.  His voice flutters somewhere between a falsetto and a whisper but there is nothing delicate about it.  It vibrates with barely containable feeling, straining at the curves of his sweet folky melodies.  He is screaming, but very quietly, so that you can barely hear it. 

White is from Northern Ireland, quite young still but a veteran of the folk-rock-y Silences, which made two well-received EPs in the 2010s and then called it quits.  If you’re familiar with Silences, you’ll find much that’s familiar here—that unusual voice, a penchant for soft, bewitching melodies, the use of surging, banging percussion to kick things into gear.  But Swirling Violets is finer and more idiosyncratic than that earlier material, with sweeter lulls and sharper climaxes.  It’s a record that seems, on first listen, a bit too ingratiating but picks up friction and contradiction as you hear it repeatedly. 

White sets up wispy little melodies, then blows them out into dramatic, beat-driven climaxes.  He sounds like Elliott Smith at the onset of “Red House Parlour,” for instance, pure and unadorned but still full of feeling.  That’s not a terrible thing in itself, though I don’t think he’ll ever match Smith’s lyrical twistiness.  However, the payoff comes in the chorus when this little tune goes wild, with florid rolls of piano and high kicking, rave-ecstatic percussion.  The absolute king of this sort of thing—that is, folk songs jacked up on electronic beats—was the Beta Band.  This is no “Dry the Rain” but it has that same exhilarating swell. 

Not all the songs take off like this, and one of the best, the late album “Deadwood,” mostly avoids a climax.  Instead it shimmers and quivers on plucked guitars and hushed harmonies.  White’s voice smolders quietly and with startling clarity, like the red tip of a cigarette sighted across the yard in twilight.  Beautiful.
