Miss Ninaa!! When are you free for the summer???
hello, sweetling! and good morning, good afternoon or good night wherever it is that you are. <3 regardless of the time of day, please just know that the world around you is brighter bc you're in it. c':
so i just want to start out by saying that i know i say this a lot...but i cannot tell you what it means to me that you guys care enough about me to be curious about the trajectory of my offline life.
...like, i really just have the sweetest anons in the world, huh? ;-;
i feel unbelievably blessed and count my lucky stars everyday because of each and everyone of you. thank you for being your lovely, lovely selves and caring not only about me as a person but my silly and strange au styles from hell.
speaking of, i am aware that it does not seem like it because of how sporadically i post ncu related content ( if at all ) but i am trying to work on some stuff...as you know well by now, i like to really take my time putting out my work because the quality of the content that you read is paramount to me. you are all far too near and dear to my heart to receive lame, rushed, unclear boof ass content from me.
like...i simply will not do it. thank you for your paitence.
( i will say that i am specifically working on an ask about the greenhouse kiss which AAAAAA giggling, twirling my hair and kicking my feet, like it is SOOOOO satisfying, holy shit! it's also very, very important to the plot which is why i have been taking my time on it. i do hope to put it out today but i am trying not to make promises that i can't keep, get your hopes and dreams up just to dash them and most unfortunately, i do not have a great track record in that regard. i know it's kind of a bummer...but i like to be honest w/ y'all. )
ANYWAYS!
without further ado, here's a little glimpse into my life. xx
again, thank you for asking...that is very cute of you. c': <333
( this is lengthy and lowkey irrelevant. you can absolutely skip this but i think that i am pretty informative in here, so it might be useful? idk. )
so actually, my summer is pretty busy and jam-packed for the most part! or, the first two months are, at least. because i decided to take on summer camp here at the school i work on! camp counsellor nina!
i decided to nab a summer camp supervising position for a couple of reasons. like, obviously, teaching does not pay that much, so really, i need to make all the money i can while i can. don't worry about me tho, guys. bc actually am doing extremely well for myself. <333
( i am a very lucky person, haha -- god nerfed me by being mentally ill, but did make me pretty and personable...which gets me far in life. on the topic of mental illness [ of which i am very ] today i should fare quite well bc other than having a mild headache and being lowkey naseous because my mood stabilizer has that side effect for me...it is worth it when i rem(ember) to take it because it makes me very calm and level, so i am better at responding to my asks/doing my tasks. )
another reason is it keeps me busy...when i am not constantly busy, i get very depressed and fall into gnarly sprials. my job has a lot of downtime and when i am not running around like crazy because a bunch of teachers are out, i'm bored as fuck and i get lazy or restless.
very lame...this summer, i will be looking for a different job ( fml, if you are my boss, don't read this ) and i am a bad procrastinator so i missed the deadline for a fuck ton of teaching positions, but hopefully i can find something in the realm of associate or assistant teaching because....lmao, point and laugh but i am still a little too nervous to teach a whole class by myself. if kids get disadvantaged academically because i am too incompetent at teaching, i will die.
but yeah...if i am still babysitting fourteen year olds after this ( they did grow on me, but it's really not my speed ) please also point and laugh because i would rather go back to retail...yes, i am desperate.
on the subject of teaching kids that are in my wheelhouse and doing stuff my speed, summer camp is actually all k-5 so i will FINALLY being doing a majority of my teaching in the age group that i have my literal credential in. YAY! it's going to be hot as shit where i am over the summer, probably also tiring as shit ( have you seen how little kids act in the summer? ) but i am so fkn exCITED to work with the littles HEEEEELLL YES, BROTHER! uncle nina will be Vibing! <333
so for the first four weeks i am doing general camp stuff, getting a feel for stuff and wokring with all the grade levels...but the LAST two weeks, i get to specifically associate teach in the kindergarten classroom and AAAAAAAA!!!!! I FKN LOVE THE KINDERS!!!!! i visit them every other day because, again, i am bored as shit and they need help over there so i usually hang out with them in PE and play hula hoop tag with them...rn they are learning how to jump rope. soooo stinking cute, oh my god.
-- BUT YES I AM SOOOOO FREAKING STOKED YOU GUYS LIKE I WAS MADE FOR THIS BROTHER. i am gonna wear so many crazy outfits and do such weird makeup pray it doesn't melt off my face.
also, during camp, they go on little field trips and things, hopefully swimming, ( uncle nina is mermaid nina ) and feed you the same stuff as the campers so i get to eat like a nasty frat boy and have pizza and pasta and stuff, which, let me tell you, i am genuinely stoked because they cater a free lunch for the faculty here everyday and it's supposed to be all fancy and shit...but there is a reason it's free because it is SOOOO mid. like it really is kind of ass. i don't know how they do that.
but, sigh, camp is only six weeks so i have to fill my time with other stuff ( also i guess that means in six weeks from when school is done on june...14th, i think? i am free? ) i hope to use that time to structure the fuck out of my life, planf or the future because i am hella bad at it and i hope to do a lot of writing! kind of a pipe dream at this point becaue all my stuff has been *british tolkien vc* actual shite and i can't finish anything...but maybe when i feel better, writing will come easier? when i am less busy and stressed? i hope so. and i hope you guys are still around if i am here but i Completely understand if you are not! it's been a long, bumpy ride. you did your dues and you are free to step off at any time. again, i do not blame you. i am annoying.
BUT YEAH! that's my summer for you! summer camp, hanging out with my cat ( her name is lily, she is very beautiful, very kind, very fluffy and dumb as rocks but she is my babygirl ), getting lots of sushi, going to the thrift store, doing self care stuff, doing less self harm in various odd forms specifically in the form of self sabotage, getting my life together and organized, finding a new job, bettering myself and the world, being kind, entertaining all of you and hopefully writing again! yay! i'll update you as much as i can.
and please, please, pleeeease update me on your lives! i know i don't always respond, but i read everything. my friend who won FIRST PLACE for her raven sculpture, I AM SO PROUD OF YOU BABY. my friends who unfortunately went through breakups, i am so sorry, please know it is their loss, you are stronger for it and i hope you heal, but if ravesey can...you can baby. also proud of my various friends going to college and my friends that are not! my friends toiling through their lame jobs and my friends who are dipping their toes in the world of creativity through writing, drawing expressing yourself! i love, love, LOVE you! thank you for sharing your lives with me.
( speaking of friends, i am specifically hoping to spend my summer bonding with my rant girlies and we made a little group chat and we are being so funny and chaotic and unhinged. i love them all so bad. )
BUT YEAH! thank you for asking my love! look out for some important in character asks, hopefully some finished or more distinguished writing and know that if i am not responding or posting, it is not because i lost interest...as you can see, i am very busy, especially as the school year approaches an end, my summer is a little busy, i fall into ugly manic/depressive cycles and am working on taking care of myself...offline. thank you for understanding.
and thank you for being here! you are troopers, forreal! you are angels and saints for putting up for me and enduring me never posting or posting really chaotic weird stuff. i love you. thanks for caring. <3
i love you and i hope you heal,
uncle nina, future ceo of glamour girl summer camp <3
P.S. i am specifically working on developing and post more about my other aus because i want to give you some variety and challenge myself to do stuff out of my comfort zone! so if you are excited at all about the tsot/tfbw nina stuff, please make some NOOOOISE! lol and if you are not i totally get it, but if you could give me gentility and grace, i would appreciate it because i'm insecure abt it. MWAH!
#hi baby!#thank you SO much for asking you are so stinking cute for this like omg i am blushing thank you so much#i am working on answering some asks but its slow goings but i am emotionally stable nina today so hell yeah brother#i love the greenhouse kiss ask but it requires a lot of context moving parts and me explaining stuff thoroughly#thank you for being paitent i hope its worth it#i also don't know how much people care about my dead ass fanfic or any of my stuff but thanks for fighting the good fight#anyways! camp counsellor nina!#i get to work with the k-5 kids i am so stoked its gonna be loud and very hot outside but fun and enriching#very stoked to do something entertaining#when i tell you i am BORED it fucking sucks like this job is so ass and rn my school is kinda going through messy drama#so it's not pleasant to be here i am not having fun#BUT I WILL! and i have a lot of fun answering my asks hell ya#wokring on getting another job holy shit please pray for me#but yah! trying to be a better me and come back into myself and write more comfortably you guys are helping me#thank you for respecting my time and need for space#i am pretty introverted inspite of my little god complex big scary writer routine and i get overwhelmed by attention#i never quite know what to say but i'm trying#write to me anytime i love you#also i had a friend send me an ask and ask me if their question is odd -- it's not sweetheart i just don't have an answer yet#i haven't shdslkhdld thought about it hard enough but i will get back to you haha y'all are unhinged and kind and so cute#ily ily ILY

Honestly the most revolutionary thing about Gravity Falls to me is its commitment to sincerity.
I’ve been listening to Alex’s podcast where he goes into the details of each episode with different storyboard artists and writers who worked on the show, and it just baffles me how… cared for the story is. Right now in media there’s been an uptick in satire, and shows making fun of themselves for existing, or taking the piss at their own content to “win” fans to their side. It’s like whimsy is gone from so many pieces of media. But Gravity Falls just doesn’t… do that. It completely embraces itself. Weirdness and all. And so does the team behind it. I’m not used to something I care about being so cared about by everyone surrounding it.
Here’s this cartoon, written and illustrated by an entire team of people saying, “no, we’re serious. we mean this. we made this on purpose and we made it important.”
Throughout the podcast, Alex discusses little ins and outs of each character, offering so much deep internal struggles and enriching the story even farther. And listening to him unpack it with the utmost sincerity just warms my heart. Each character is so dynamic because they were cared for by people who imbued them with sincerity.
That’s exactly why we get quotes like “Shame is powerful, but it grows in the dark,” as Ford realizes the trauma he’s hidden for so long is being embraced by his family, diminishing it’s weight on him through their immediate support.
It’s why we get Alex describing Stanley with quotes like; “I always in my gut thought of him as somebody with a huge well of sadness, a loss of human connection. And that need to please? That need to get laughs from the crowd, and putting on a big show? He’s trying to get from them the affection he never got from his family, and that he lost with his brother.”
Or detailing how Mabel might be a goof… but half the time she’s doing a bit, because she’s really more mature than her brother and doesn’t want him to grow up too fast. She’s trying to help ground him and bring lightheartedness into his life. Because she knows otherwise, he’ll become too self isolated.
And those two mini character studies he dropped so casually in these podcast episodes just… color the show. It’s why the show survived so well even after ten years. It’s gruff-old Stan always calling his niece “Pumpkin” and “Honey”. It’s the family always holding hands without it behind laced with a joke, and falling asleep on one another in the car. It’s Alex explaining that people toyed with other endings, other plot lines, other twists, but it was always going to end with Stan and Ford mending the family tie they severed thirty years ago. Because that was their story. Messes and family and care.
Ten years ago, watching it for the first time as it came out, I felt all that. But now, as an adult, knowing that all the other adults who made it felt the exact same way? :,) What a special story we all got to grow up with, and get to continue being apart of.

Generic Headcanons for the Tulpar Crew!
Masterlist _ Join the taglist _ Ask box
Curly can't bowl. Absolutely can not. As coordinated as he is, this sport is absolutely not under his forte. Somehow, he gets all strikes or only one pin down.
Used to have a bubble blowing pipe as a kid. Still collects bubble blowers but doesn't really use them.
Sentimental in that he doesn't throw gifts away, even if he knows he won't use them. Has them neatly packed away in boxes
His hair is usually slightly frizzy and brushed on trips but back at home, he does the full oil, scrunch, curl routine, resulting in amazing curls
Prefers vanilla ice cream
Diagnosed insomniac. Sleeps like the dead when he does actually sleep; his heart rate slows down a lot so he actually scared a few roommates in the past
Hairy chest
Usually wears two shirts. After the crash, he's far more sensitive to temperature changes and bundles up, even if it's sweltering outside
Has a nasty scar on his knee from when he tripped as a kid. Didn't get stitches but probably should've
Listens to a mix of rock and foreign music, even when he doesn't know what they're saying
Wanted to be an astronaut but settled for becoming a pilot
Curly was an only child to a single mother. She had a serious disease that had him taking care of them both at a young age. He used the insurance money to become a pilot. She really believed in his dream.
Slightly colorblind (mixes up yellow and green) but by the time he's an adult he's able to tell the shades apart, so it didn't affect his pilot's course
Really enjoys raisin toast and cheese whiz.
A little forgetful. Usually keeps a notepad in his pocket or his keys on a long string
Can imitate accents really well, especially Southern drawls
Has English ancestry
Secretly terrified of the concept of the immortal snail
Daisuke sings horribly, but in such a charismatic way that somehow gets everyone joining in.
Does very bad puppetry, usually with socks. However, he's surprisingly good at miming.
He likes to draw!
He alternates between being the absolute boss at video games vs scoring almost nothing.
However! He's the absolute king at dance dance revolution and guitar hero.
Can't sit still for puzzles but surprisingly has a lot of fun with games like candy crush (and is really good at it)
Likes lemon hard candies
Pours whipped cream on anything. Bread? Whipped cream. Coffee? Whipped cream. Swansea had to kick that habit out of him
On that note: sweet tooth
Drools in his sleep and has the worst bedhead known to man
Has three sisters, all older and with set careers. He loves them a lot, despite feeling inadequate sometimes. He also has two moms!
Can't hold his liquor BUT surprisingly can never get drunk off of cold medicine
Watches a lot of thrillers, action and romcoms. Is always captivated by them (and cries a little when the couple gets together)
Quotes Mean Girls a lot
Was definitely a Disney kid. Belts into Lion King songs all the time (Swansea wants to strangle him)
Listens to screamo when he's tinkering with machines (usually with cars or where he can't readily change the songs)
Otherwise has a playlist that has songs from every genre. Never skips any of them.
Believes in sasquatch. Vehemently.
Tends to have bad luck with electronics, usually sparking himself somehow. His electronics usually have a lot of scuff marks and dented corners but surprisingly no cracked screens
Fluent in Spanish and passing in at least three other languages
Knows beauty routines better than most people do (including social media infleuncers)
Either has flawless skin or has a strict routine to prevent breakouts.
Definitely had a crush on Marty McFly poster in his bedroom. Still does.
Jimmy is, surprisingly, a good writer. He usually drops them only a few chapters in, but they're captivating and really enriched
Taps his foot a lot
Scrunches up his face when he's concentrating, often comically so
Absolutely hates black coffee but refuses to drink any other.
Says he hates the song that's playing but 9/10 he'll be nodding along to it. Absolutely despises Swansea and Anya's playlists
If the person he hates likes a song/movie/snack, he'll absolutely hate it. Even if he loved it before.
Sleeps with his arms crossed and head tipped back
Knows a lot about a bit of everything but in a weird way. Such as how to replace a car radio but not how to hot wire a car
Acts like the "tsundere" trope where he's mean if he likes someone
Prefers uniform clothing and goes for simple button ups otherwise
Somehow always finds himself at the receiving end of gossip. He knows all the tea but doesn't care enough to share it
Crazy skilled at board games, especially strategy and Monopoly. May or may not cheat. The absolute biggest sore loser
Mint or rocky road is his go-to ice cream snack. eats ice cream cones from the bottom up
Really good at visual puzzle solving. ("How many cubes are there?", mazes, etc)
Plays guitar and does it well. Favourite song to play is probably Country Roads
Hates the song Pumped Up Kicks. The school he used to go to before meeting Curly had way too many incidents to be comfortable.
Somehow, he does really well at baking those fancy deserts. Souffles, creme brulees, macarons, caramel, you name it. Probably would have made it as a chef somewhere
Always packs light and never keeps anything. Doesn't even have cards to the stores he frequents a lot.
Usually has a lighter or one of those "7 tools in 1" tool in his pocket.
Gets super bored with horror and nature documentaries. A fan of thriller and action though.
Somehow winds up with 57 pens in his drawers. He's never sure where they come from.
Likes to keep his facial hair short or with a shadow. It makes him feel unkempt if he goes longer.
He's more of a hands-on kind of guy, preferring to be outside in the fresh air instead of reading a book or watching TV.
Salted pretzels are his go-to snack.
Anya wears contacts (based on the soundtrack cover art)
Licks her finger before turning a page of the book and dog-ears to bookmark it
Always has ink smudges on her fingers. She never knows how it gets there
Twirls pens when she's lost in thought
She has a neutral resting face, so when she smiles or frowns, it crinkles a bit but you can always tell it's genuine
Never keeps her hair short; it always leaves her itchy. Closest she'll get is chin length
She's definitely a homebody
She doesn't often like switching hobbies but when she does, she focuses all her attention on it. However, it takes her a really long time to master it, leaving her discouraged.
Had difficulties in school.
All her books are filled with highlighted passages and writings in the margin
Tummy sleeper with her face smooshed in a pillow
Sleepwalks in a horrifying way. She'll stand at the foot of the bed and say cryptic things like, "He knows you're here" before walking away. Doesn't remember it the next day.
Prefers tea over coffee and dark chocolate
Doesn't really care for ice cream but likes freezies and Gelato
Prefers dogs over cats and loves labradors, even though she doesn't have the energy for them
Never could stomach the smell of puke or fecal matter
Doesn't know how to swim
Absolutely burns in the sun, no matter how much sun screen she uses.
She drives with audio books on, or while she's studying. Constant interruptions stress her out
Knows how to play the flute!
Has a few Russian lullabies memorized and knows the translations for them, though she doesn't know much Russian otherwise.
Mother died young, so it was her and her dad for a long time. She never felt like she lived up to his expectations.
Really close to her cousin growing up, who acted like an older sister to her.
Somehow, knows all the obscure lore about haunted locations and folklore. While she believes in ghosts, she doesn't believe in other entities.
Never swears. It's just not who she is.
Anya listens to a lot of indie and instrumental music.
She once had a pet parakeet named Timothy but gave it to her cousin when she tried to study for med school.
She has a music box, gifted to her by her mother before her passing. It's one of her prized possessions. Anya plays it before sleeping.
She likes to watch silent movies, black and white, and those that relate to her experiences in life.
Audrey Hepbern is consequently her favourite actress.
While most of her books are educational or self-help, she owns a few classics like Moby Dick and Pride & Prejudice.
Swansea knows how to crochet
He's a GOD at gambling. Everyone is sure that he's cheating, but it's honestly a lot of skill
While he doesn't know any other languages, he knows enough basic phrases to navigate in most foreign countries.
Very old in his ways (men must be gentlemen type thing) but progressive in others
Doesn't vote
Annoyed when Daisuke arrived in his floral shirt. Not because Daisuke skirted past the full uniform but because Swansea owns a lot of them (and oddly enough, many that match with Daisuke). So he never gets out of uniform
Can fall asleep anywhere
He's the fastest typer out of the Tulpar crew, second only to Daisuke
Still uses a Nokia phone though
Listens to podcasts or radio stations, but if he ever sits down for TV, it's usually dramas (think, SVU or Young & The Restless). Gets super invested in the soap dramas, even if he swears he doesn't or otherwise. He knows everyone's names and backstories off hand.
Gets grumpy if you turn off the show he's watching.
Tried growing a beard once. Never again
Keeps photos of his entire family in his wallet. Mother? There. Wife? There. Kids? There. His dentist? Somehow, there.
Never went to AA. He doesn't exactly deter people from drinking, but he'll outright shove people in chairs and take their car keys if they're too drunk to drive
Owns a really beat-up sports car. The upkeep is horrible, but it's what he got in the divorce, and he won't trade it for anything. Let Daisuke drive it exactly once (1)
Took wrestling and boxing in his youth! He gives a mean right hook. He still has the arm muscles from it
Absolutely cannot stand sticky, tacky items. Hates the feel of gum on his hands. Okay with chewing it.
Very efficient at multitasking! Even if it looks like he's focused on something, he notices things from his peripheral vision asap. Also weirdly attuned to Daisuke and just knows when he's grabbing something that he shouldn't
Scary good intuition about people.
Absolute king at barbecuing. Steak is his favourite food, especially accompanied with beer (he misses those days), roasted mini potatoes and garlic vegetables.
Makes the meanest stew and soup you've ever known. Throws the absolute wildest ingredients into the pot, but it comes out miraculous every time.
Adds salt and pepper to his meal anytime anyone else is cooking. Even if it was adequately seasoned
Knows how to ride a horse!
His part of the city isn't the best (high crime rate), but all the kids know his name and go to him whenever they need to escape from home or a warm meal. He doesn't know why they're so drawn to him, but something about Swansea makes them feel secure. It's put him in the good graces of the not-so-good folk and he's left well enough alone by them.
Definitely owns a shotgun and probably had to fend thieves away from his home prior to that though.
Definitely has Irish and Scottish ancestry. Maybe a bit of German.

What are your thoughts on authors writing and posting fanfiction of their own work? Do you think being self published vs traditionally published makes a difference? I tried searching around about the topic before but found nothing conclusive, other than the statement, "if you're the owner of the work, you might as well make more money off of it," which doesn't sit right with me.
I mean, I'm quite (in)famously writing an AU fic of my own work (Sugar Vladdy) purely for fun and because Tumblr has a unique ability to pilot my lack of impulse control like the ADHD version of Ratatouille.
Numerous people have told me they'd buy Sugar Vladdy if I ever decided to make it into a proper book. Frankly, I'm not interested in that because my motives for writing Hunger Pangs vs. Sugar Vladdy were different.
Writing for profit vs writing for fandom occupy different spaces in my brain. They scratch different itches. Yes, I'm playing around with the same characters. But I'm sort of just treating it like enrichment in my enclosure. It lets my brain throw around all the ideas that wouldn't work for those characters within the canon universe but still likes to go, "Oh, but what if..."
Honestly. No idea how much of that is my ADHD or what, but that's the only way I can explain it. They're the same, but they're not. They're fun in different ways. And I can get away with it because I'm self-pub. I haven't sold the rights to anyone. The world and characters are mine. I can put my blorbos into situations if I want to.
Now, if I were trad-pub, there would probably be a lot of restrictions about what I can and cannot do surrounding my own characters because I've sold the rights for X amount of time. I couldn't just give things away. It might be considered a breach of contract if I did. It'd definitely be something I'd need to run by an agent first just to make sure.
As for not liking the "might as well make money off it" mindset, as a literal struggling writer who lives paycheck to paycheck, I'm not going to judge anyone who keeps their official work as for profit only. People deserve to be paid for their labor. If they/we want to create stuff away for free, that's up to us.
Would I personally find it stifling and joy-killing to only ever write for profit? Yes. But that's a me thing. Not a universal thing.

Ewan and Phia both championing hard for a Helaemond arc in their interviews, doubt the writers will listen but I love them for that. Ewan understanding that Aemond woudl logically fall obsessed with Helaena’s powers , and Phia understanding how enriching it could be for Helaena to have an arc in HH.
Yeah, Saban knows her way around fandom and that's honestly refreshing.
That's why I love her so much. She's humble, fun, and she can speak fandom. The fandom literate actors and actresses are always the best, because, they respect us and know what we want.
Bro, you know, Alicent is gonna be straight fucked when she gives up King's Landing and literally no one is there but her dumb ass. Aegon splits, Aemond goes to Harrenhal, Helaena just bugs out to Harrenhal on Dreamfyre, and even Jaehaera ends up being spirited away to Dragonstone to hang out with Aegon. Leaving Alicent as the only dumb mother fucker to receive Rhaenyra. Leaving the blacks with no hostages.
Just imagine, for a second, if we get Daemon's confrontation at Harrenhal with Aemond. And instead of Nettles, its Aemond and Helaena on one side and Daemon and Alys on the other, talking mad shit to one another about destiny, prophecy, and fate, before the duel. With Helaena having given birth to Maelor. And Maelor is actually Aemond's son. Then after Aemond dies, Helaena throws herself off of Harrenhal's tallest tower and disappears into the God's Eye with Aemond. And Maelor is actually the child that Alys raises, pretending that Maelor is her son with Aemond.
Listen, Reddit just threw up in their mouth, but this is Tumblr Goddamn it! This is where we go fucking nuts with shipper shit.

This is the same anon as before. I think I should thank you for bringing up how society for some reason believes that sapphic women cannot express our attraction to other women openly or as they put it 'like cishetallo men' in the context of Elysia's vocal attraction to Mei's horns. As a lesbian, as much as I really hate Elysia for retconning the story and in my eyes trying to ruin kiamei, I find her to be hot as fuck and I love her boobs but people online cannot believe that a woman can feel that way towards a woman and women are pure of heart being or some shit which is what terfs and fundamentalists say. Thank you for saying women being attracted to women beyond just holding hands is normal and I hope you had as much fun receiving my asks as I do reading your answers. I enjoy hearing viewpoints opposing my own.
Hell yeah, glad that was helpful!
Honestly I feel like Elysia enhances Kiamei if anything. Like Kiana got to have other relationships develop and bounce off of, but Mei was benched most of the story, so she only really had Raven as her own friend until ER. Kinda hard for her to be developed as a character.
Everyone's lives are enriched by the relationships they form and the ways they grow along with them. For better or for worse (the writing quality's sin wave) Mei did experience a lot of growth through her conflict and subsequent warming up to Ely and friends.
Mei had always been embarrassed by Kiana's frank flirting, so confronting a way flirtier girl probably opened up her perspective, no? Plus she's a lot more confident, less soft-spoken now. The whole terrorist thing made Mei very direct, but Elysia softened her rough edges again by ER Chapter 3.
Besides. Depending on how you interpret her relationship with Elysia, she might also have gained experience in... other ways...
If they're gonna be separated, letting your ship interact with other characters, especially foils and contrasting ones, is the next best thing u-u
ALSO. Can we stop being mad at Elysia for the retcons. Elysia is a victim of the retcons. The writers retconned her character and changed the direction from ER's story foreshadowing
#asks#elysia#honkai impact#Mei mourning a dead friend/lover would also be a really interesting way to give Kiana an opportunity to do emotional support#like why's it always Mei giving

I'm just here to post a terribly earnest rec for AMC's Interview with A Vampire, which, er, you may have noticed, I've become a little insane about in the recent past (has it even been ten days?!)
Side note: You don't have to know the Anne Rice books or the previous movies to enjoy this show. In fact, the show makes some great and fundamental changes to canon which really elevated it , imho.
Ok here goes:
1) It's a really fun gothic melodrama, which really enjoys being all three things, but especially the last. And it's good at being all three, very good, actually. And it's really fun. Did i mention that. FUN.
2) If you like twisty, non linear narratives told by unreliable narrators, this show is near perfect at it. The entire story is structured around multiple layers of performances - stories within stories within stories- but never in a incoherent way that will leave you hanging. It's very clever and has fun being clever without being obnoxious about it, if that makes sense. The theatrical feel isn't a coincidence- the show runner and much of the writer's room are or have been playwrights, and many in the lead and supporting cast have theatre backgrounds, and that makes it incredibly compelling and just- fun.
3) There's so much to nerd about! It's non apologetically literary and artistic, but in such a joyful way. It's costume design- ranging from late eighteenth century to contemporary- is just delightful; and I can't sing enough praises about the set/production design in the way it enriches the storytelling and the characters. Every little detail seems to have been thought about, from a crew that's really just having a blast, I think. In fact, I'm doing an entire rewatch of two seasons just to savor all the stuff I rushed through the first time as I got more and more caught up in the whirlwind pace of the story.
4) The performances are great! Both the leads are charismatic and great performers- and yeah, there's a lot of extraordinarily pretty people in this- but it's the total commitment to their characters that really shines through. There's a casting change for a major character in season 2, but oddly enough, it's a change that fits MARVELLOUSLY into the story itself. Season 2 especially brings in some amazing guest performances, to add to a crew that's already firing on all cylinders.
5) It's queer as hell you guys! Not a single straight couple in it, but its queerness is not just about specific ships or couples, it's just fundamental to the story itself; a point of view rather than sexual orientation.
6) What I very much love about the main romances in the show is that the queerness is essential to their story but it's not everything. There's more to these people and their difficult and often toxic loves than being queer in a homophobic world; they are allowed to be failures at love, to be angry, happy and sad, and most of all: they are all horrible people! They just are. It's GREAT.
7) On a more shippy note: there are so many great canon ships. My personal fave is the problematique "Loustat" ( Lestat/ Louis), which is also the abusive, toxic , dramatically epic love story around which the show revolves, because ngl, " they make each other worse" is where it's at in 2024, but there are other, possibly even more toxic ships to enjoy! 🍾🎊🍹💕
8) Watch it so you can come scream with me about it. To quote show runner Rolin Jones, " It's made to make you insane. Feels first."
#y'all i am typing this all out with one hand in a cast#that's how serious i am about this show#just watch it already!!!!!#interview with the vampire#amc iwtv

'Queer as Folklore' by Sacha Coward
With a clever title and an engaging tone of voice, queer historian Sacha Coward expertly intertwines ancient folklore with contemporary pop culture, creating a web of associations that will resonate with most contemporary queer people in Western countries. From mermaids to aliens, new and old legends come together to explore why queer people seem to have an innate tendency to be drawn to the fantastical from a young age. Although this book is heavily written through a Western lens, other folklore is mentioned and explored with respect for the cultures they belong to, taking the reader on a breathtaking journey through time, places, and myths.
Coward is a talented writer and meticulous historian, and that shines through his work. With each word he writes, the reader is both transported in time and invited into an ongoing conversation with the author. Reading this book feels like being in that one fun class you look forward to every week, with the engaging teacher who values input and talks about history as though it's a story, giving flesh and voice to ancient humans and making them feel so much closer to us. I had the pleasure of attending the ‘Queer as Folklore’ book release event in London, which really solidified my review of the book. It was an enriching experience, and hearing the voices of other queer people, researchers, and storytellers building up momentum to the main conversation culminated in a memorable and well-spent evening.
This is a book I highly recommend to lovers of history and the fantastical, or to anyone who fancies an engaging and fun non-fiction read to get them out of a reading slump!
Thank you Unbound for providing an ARC for review via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

How do you think Tim and Cass would get along?
Which is the better sibling pair: Tim and Cass or Steph and Jason - WHY?
plz just give me fluffy Tim and Cass working together okay I have read exactly two (2) comics and I have watched SOME young Justice and I have read so many angst fics all I want is for these children to be happy
Sorry it's taken so long to answer this, I got carried away and kept rambling haha.
Tim and Cass in canon is so interesting because it starts out with Tim being Tim, more than a little wary and judgemental because of Cass's past. But he actually owns up to this, apologises for his biases, and asks Cass if they can be friends. And they are! Fresh blood is where they're front and center, and in batgirl volume 2 he's the one most supportive of her, along with being the one in the family to reach out to her after Bruce dies and the one she clearly is closest to in Gates of Gotham. But what really makes Tim and Cass for me are all the little moments in canon where they're Batgirl and Robin and they're not even the main focus of the story, but their sibling twin menace energy is off the charts.
Just little moments of their teamwork really cemented their bond for me. To me it's like... More than any other batgirl and robin duo these two should be almost creepily in sync. Batman says "Team assemble." and they drop down from their various hideyholes in the roof with perfect timing. They could be having a fight that very day and not a single criminal would know if from the way they bounce off each other in combat.
But as well as that, they've seen each other at some of the lowest points in their lives, and been there for each other. The loss of Steph, Tim's dad, Cass getting brainwashed by Slade, Bruce's death. They never had to be the first priority for each other to still end up on the list of people to take care of and I kind of love that. The reassurance that no matter what happens with all the other important relationships in your life, batgirl and robin will always have each other's backs, in whatever way they can.
For me, they're the better sibling pair to Steph and Jason because Tim and Cass do actually have a solid arc you can trace through comics, even despite editorial having it out for Cass at certain points. There are comics and storylines you can pick up and see them acting like siblings even before Cass was adopted.
Whereas with Steph and Jason it was all about the potential, and still kind of is tbh. It's about Bruce projecting Jason on Steph and Steph dying as a result, it's about both of them being familiar with taking care of an addict parent, it's about both of them knowing how much a loaf of bread costs, it's about how they were let down by people they trusted and how Bruce (thanks to the writers) puts both of them down to uplift Tim, it's about their attitude to killing and to criminals and how death changed both their perspectives permanently but in very different directions.
But the issue is that they started interacting during the new 52 where all of Steph's history had been erased and Jason had been defanged off screen into a batfam member. And then from rebirth onwards they suffer from a similar issue a lot of batfam relationships do, where instead of developing the bond the writers just go yeah this is how they interact now. How did they get close? How come they trust each other? Idk, it just happened.
And this is not unique at all to Jason and Steph nor does it stop me from enjoying their interactions, but it does put Cass and Tim on top for me.
And now, for more fun Cass and Tim panels from Red Robin, featuring Cass vs technology:
(OK the last one doesn't look fluffy but you gotta understand fake murdering each other is their favourite form of enrichment)
They're unhinged your honor.
Thanks for the ask!

Anon writes:
"Right, let me get this straight.
Creators in this fandom are shamed for being over 30 or made fun of for being under 30. We're wrong for shipping our MC's with the popular NPC's but just as wrong if we share "too much" lore about our original characters. We're shamed for putting our characters in too much makeup or modern clothing, shipping gay characters because it's not "era appropriate" (despite same sex marriages being literally CANON in the game), or for not shipping gay characters "enough", imagining characters in relationships that would "never happen" because some anon said so, aging up our characters, not aging up our characters, or making an error in a fic that we shared for pure enjoyment and fandom enrichment. If we're popular, it's only because people are sucking up to us, but if we're too nice or supportive, it means we're only chasing clout — and if we DARE try to cultivate some positivity by giving accolades to our favourites on the hype blog, we're made fun of for "sending anon hype about ourselves."
*slow clap*
It's like you people don't WANT this fandom to exist.
I speak directly to those of us who have personally felt the negative effects of this blog:
Block it, ignore it, filter it out of your feed — do whatever it takes to protect your energy.
Fandom is a space for YOU, not some nasty-ass anon. Your blog is yours, your creations are yours, your characters, stories, artworks are YOURS and you can do whatever you want in the pursuit of your own happiness without having to adhere to a bunch of nonsensical judgements from self-entitled anons. If they don't like it, they can eat rocks. Or alternatively, use how to use the filter system.
Babes, you owe these people NOTHING. Stop listening to them.
Personally, I believe this blog has done irreparable damage to our small fandom and I hope fervently for it's deletion.
Bye."
....
I've done this anon the favor of blocking her from this blog so she can more easily avoid the temptation to look at it. I thank her for her honesty that what she wants is this blog deleted.
I'm not the type to cave to social pressure, so that's not going to happen.
I do agree with what this anon said about not letting things posted here get to you. People are expressing a variety of viewpoints, and oftentimes, even on this blog, others are disagreeing with them and they are sometimes even ratioed.
But - I urge you - if your presence in fandom can't coexist with any criticism, no matter how indirect, that's something that needs to be explored on your end.
I'm a creator too, you know. I'm a writer for starters. I also make the dreaded AI-audios, I make videos, I post photo mode grabs and all kinds of other things. Does everyone like my work? No. Have people expressed that to me? Yes. Have people posted anons here that applied to me, or were directly targeted at me? Also yes.
I don't expect everyone to have my thick skin, but if this blog's mere existence is that bothersome to you, I urge you to please submit an anon request to be blocked. This will make it less easy for you to peek at the blog through your fingers.
Seriously - I've already removed a lot of posts, and vowed to be more censorious going forward. If you won't be satisfied until this blog is no more, I don't know what to tell you. If you have someone in your DMs who is constantly sending you things from this blog or bringing it up, you need to ask them to stop. Otherwise, it's up to you to curate your experience on Tumblr, because I have never once seen a negative post about creators from here be reblogged by more than about one person, and often with plenty of push back. So try to put it in perspective for sure.
Hope this helps.

fandom is fun but it's more fun when you actively enjoy the source material and can bring your own interpretations to the table. being inspired by each other is one thing that creatives do all the time and it's such a fun and enriching part of having a community to partake in but the homogenization of character interpretation is so crushing. when you sand the edges off of your own portrayals it's a detriment to your work and imo the community
idk it's just sad to see writers chase mass appeal and approval and get burned, then turn around and be like 'I hate this character now'.
anyway all of this is to say that to me, claire is not femme how many times does capcom have to put her in shorts instead of a bathing suit for yall to pick up the hint
#delphi chatter#jill's doing my nails for me but claire laughs when I ask her to and pays for my manicure instead. understand?

What would you say is the line between being sexist and just liking sexy female characters? And the line between arguing against sexist depictions of female characters, and just being a wertham style prude who thinks any sexiness is bad and wants to ruin fun?
For example, I like Wonder Woman’s classic bathing suit costume, but I’ll be the first to say the wonder thong is a bit much.
I mean like, I feel like *anyone* can like sexy female characters while being respectful, it just kind of takes a general sense of self-awareness and an ability to be critical about the media you like. You can enjoy a piece of media while still being critical of it. Like, the thing with Wonder Woman is, regardless of the fact that for much of her existence her superhero costume has pretty much been boots and a swimsuit (and bullet deflecting gauntlets OBVIOUSLY), she was still developed by a very progressive writer and the core tenets of her character are that she triumphs with love and compassion rather than violence. And I think because you started with that intention with the character, even with the titillating costume, she's still an icon who occupies a much greater cultural space than comics alone. And like, that's one of the things that is so interesting about her, is that when it comes to comic writers, you can immediately tell who does and doesn't respect her character.
But going back to the "Am I a bad person for liking the sexy lady?" question--No, you are not. Stop letting your puritan ancestors make you feel bad for liking the character that was aesthetically designed for you to like them. You are allowed to like the sexy lady. Literally have fun--but also at the same time, be willing to interrogate why you like Sexy Lady.
Like--okay, one of my favorite characters out of My Hero Academia is Yaoyorozu Momo--and I am 100% willing to admit that her design is shameless cheesecake which is fucked up because her character is meant to be a minor--but also at the same time, MHA is a shonen anime--literally its intended audience is minors! And the show emphasizes over and over again that she's a highly intelligent overachiever who has blind spots due to economic privilege and also shoots herself in the foot through her own anxiety. I like that! That's multidimensional and interesting and relatable to me! Also I think her power is really cool and unique! I can like that while also wishing she had a better designed costume for her age! So there you go! I'm enjoying the character while being critical! I mean that's a more complicated approach because honestly I love Momo's personality and power concepts more than her actual appearance, which I think is the case with a lot of Momo fans, but my point is, questioning your own feelings toward a character also help enrich your own experience with a piece of media overall, but also don't feel like if you're not self-flagellating you're not doing it right.
Make a point to expose yourself to a wide array of media so you can compare and contrast and find patterns and point them out. There's a whole beautiful spectrum of sexy ladies out there! Be critical, but also trust your own instincts, and also don't forget good faith, and assume ignorance before you assume malice (except in the case of Frank Miller, in which case KILL ON SIGHT).

i am here on this very lovely day to let you know that your recent poll has started a civil war (/silly) in my mumscarian discord
some of us voted for one of the pairs, others voted for the trio, the chat is in shambles, caps lock is being used liberally
the correct answer is obviously mumscarian because you write them perfectly and wonderfully (while the secondary is redscape ofc, which was my vote much to the horror of the person who brought our mumscarian group together)
anyways this is my call to the hypno cat community: vote mumscarian, they all have two hands and we can’t let their hands get cold
i hope you have a great day, thank you for the enrichment
OH NO WHAT HAVE I DONE LMAO
I'm very flattered and glad to have provided enrichment!! May your civil war be, well, civil - and fun!!

Important question.
Which halo book is the most gay
Sorry this took a minute, I've been dying on the job lately and this ended up longer than intended. (I am under so much stress and writing absurd amounts about Halo canon is enrichment for me.)
First of all: Is anything in Halo hard-canon, completely undeniable, text-only no subtext, gay? The answer is: not much.
Cards on the table, jokes to the side, Halo is overall very sexless and, when it remembers sexuality exists and maybe a character would have a feeling about that, it's usually heterosexual. Halo was born in the early 2000s and is one of those properties that wears a "mature" coat of paint but knows that a huge percentage of its audience is probably teenagers and thus it's very scared of what would happen if their parents got mad. (This was even true when they were still making the games M rated.) The games have a lot of incidental dialogue with the marines and sangheili allies but it's the kind of thing of thing you know people let skate in 2007 because lol gay, hilarious.
It's one of those things where the only way to square it with, you know, the fact queer people exist in reality, is that queer people existing is commonplace and not taboo ergo it's not brought up. This isn't a great patch job and fixes nothing, but these are the hoops available to jump through if this is your chosen circus and you're trying to have a good time. Do the tigers at the circus have a good time? Probably not, actually. Let's move on.
There are two instances of the written Halo canon specifically and undeniably mentioning gay characters. (...Or at least there have been two for the longest damn time. If I blinked and missed something recent y'all should yell in the notes. The gay couple they kill in the TV show doesn't count.) They are both supporting cast characters in short stories written by the same author, Tobias S. Buckell, for each of the two short story anthologies.
The older story is "Dirt" in the Evolutions anthology, and there are two gay women in it. The first is Felicia:
The second is Allison:
Both of these characters die (Allison dies in an attack that happens literally seconds after this moment, but Felicia is important through the story until she goes). "Dirt" is good, contains the first mention of the Rookie, the most detail we've been given on ODST training, and is a love letter to Contact Harvest so it's following up on the messy pre-Covenant insurrection vs CMA vs UNSC tensions we haven't seen in as much detail since.
The second story is "Oasis" in the Fractures anthology and there is much much less here. The protagonist of "Oasis" is a girl whose remote desert community is being ravaged by a virus, and she's the only one able to set out across the desert in search of help (where she gets caught up in some infighting among the planet's Sangheili).
Nearer the start, she finds one of her neighbors burning the body of his partner, who has died of the virus. I'm not going to post it, it's very sad. They're one-scene characters and one of them is dead before we meet him.
Tobias S. Buckell is the only Halo writer who has given us canonically gay characters, and they're only supporting cast in short stories. I can't know why exactly (fuck if I know what has happened internally on Halo) but the why socially (society homophobic) is pretty obvious.
Honestly, I think the only other direct mention is there's a bit in the first YA novel where one of the kids teases another about whether a third is "his boyfriend" because they've been talking a lot and he's like no stoooop!! about it.
Anyway.
If we have to choose a gayest Halo book based on actual mention of gay people, the award goes to Halo: Evolutions because it has one story where a lesbian is a major character.
Having crowned this dubious king, let's move on to the subtext. It's fine. We're all on tumblr, we all understand having to descend into these mines to have fun.
There are a lot of very gay moments in some Halo stories. Certainly not enough to recommend a whole book to someone, because these are always incidental, but hey. I'm a master at chewing the scraps off the bones.
I'll lead with trying to answer the original question: What is the gayest Halo book?
I think to me, the most sustained gay vibe in a written-out Halo story is whatever was going on between Romeo and Dutch in the short run comic Helljumper.
The actual text of Helljumper is: Dutch has put in for a transfer to a non-combat post in order to be closer to his wife, Gretchen. Romeo is really upset about this and they have conflict about this through a big high octane ODST adventure that ends with Romeo saying "hey Dutch I've put in for a transfer too" while Dutch goes "oh uh, I talked to Gretchen about it and I canceled my transfer request..."
It's the intensity of Romeo's hurt feelings, and the obvious fondness between the characters. I'm not saying "Romeo/Dutch real." I don't like Romeo a whole lot (mostly due to later outings in the Buck novels) and Dutch is definitely very married to Gretchen. I don't actually care that much. But for the space of time where I was reading Helljumper thinking about it that way added more emotional interest and made sense.
For things that only last for moments, I have a little collection of bits and pieces.
First: The essence of the Lord of Admirals Forthencho oversharing with our poor boy Chakas about his Didact feelings. (From Primordium.)
A moment where you know how bad the Arbiter and the Rtas 'Vadum wish they could be reunited one day, from Shadow of Intent:
Also I think the strongest "oh you could build a romance out of that" moment with the Arbiter about the Chief is actually him fully prepared to tell Locke to fuck off over him in Halo 5, but having that conviction in the Arbiter's warrior crush on the Master Chief makes passages like the below (in Outcasts) fun:
Uhuh Thel you are commissioning art of him in your home? Tell us more.
(Yes, I'm playing, I know the saga wall is an important Sangheili cultural piece, I know-)
Zita, you may ask, do you have even a crumb for the lesbians?
Alright boss, best I got is probably Adriana-111 making tea for Melody Azikiwe after the Big Stressful Book Events have concluded (from Halo: Envoy)
Okay.
I think there might be more, so everyone feel free to use this post to shout out your favorite spots that you think are better if you read them gay.
