Shouta suddenly realizing halfway through unpacking after the dorm move in with genuine, wobbly lipped sadness that

oh... in such close proximity... and never knowing when the students might need him...

He can't wear his kitty footie pajamas anymore. Not if he wants the students to ever take him seriously again.

Its just... they were his favorite. Heavy, and padded, they covered him and made him feel secure. And they were warm.

And they were so cute.

Shouta... doesnt get a lot of opportunities to feel "cute." Or any other variation of "soft," really. He's a tough, underground hero. Soft, cute things are for kids, or for people built much more delicate than him.

He almost didn't even have this one little guilty pleasure, so reluctant was he to admit to wanting such things.

Technically speaking, it was a Kigurumi, not specifically pjs, and Mic had bought it for him as a joke in college after he'd seen Shouta staring at them in what Hizashi had assumed was disdain.

Then he immediately read Aizawa's face when he'd pulled them out of the box - all unguarded, wide, disbelieving eyes and nervously bitten, wobbly, lower lip - and quickly tore up the joke card behind his back and amended a few assumptions he'd made about his friend.

It wasnt too hard for someone like Mic to switch up his speech on the fly, pulling an emotionally sensitive "You know, Shou, you don't gotta play the tough guy card with me. If you like soft things, theres no reason you shouldnt have soft things, and... and I'd behonored if you felt safe enough with me to let me know if theres anything cute you want that you're embarrassed to buy for yourself" style speech out of his ass.

Shouta had grunted and blustered his way through a "-the fuck are you talking about," growl and shoved Hizashi hard to the side, and never ever asked or even let himself look at anything cute again... but he would, when it was just the two of them in the dorms, or later when they moved in to share that first shitty little apartment together, curl up on the couch wearing it and shuffle in close to Mic's lanky side. Hizashi would put an arm around him and not say a word, and the kigu started smelling almost as much like him as it did Shouta.

It's old now, at least ten years or so if Aizawa's math is correct, but he's taken pains to take care of it. It still smells like him and Mic. It still feels like "safety" after a hard patrol, or a night terror.

So Aizawa's hands shake a minute, holding it up in front of him, drawing a spiraling list of pros and cons.

Then he folds it up and makes himself put it in the box for storage.
