the congested breaths, thick swallows, and soft snores when someone's asleep with a cold are so good. i think it's the vulnerability... because all these little extra signs of illness come out when they aren't awake to downplay them, and it just shows how much that cold isn't letting up even for a second, even when they're unconscious

a devious character intending to exaggerate how sick they are as some means to an end (creating an alibi, getting out of smth, etc) but then the person they’re trying to trick gets too concerned and impulsively feels their forehead, and the character holds their breath thinking they’ll be found out — only to mentally trip & rebalance as they’re given the news (to them) that they’re (“still”) running a nasty fever

There's just something about a soft, delicate "ah-ahh-ahhh..." buildup that destroys me. Not outwardly desperate or harsh, but still prominent and noteworthy. It's so tender and sweet, like it's beckoning you to "awww" at the oncoming sneeze.

a wet sneeze muffled into the crook of an elbow, the same drippy nose then being wiped on a sleeve, leaving behind a wet snotty spot. the fabric irritating the sensitive skin, turning it a brighter shade of red.
