haii!!! im studying psychology aswell omg we’re twinsies!!! can i ask where to start with pilates? i know theyre a bit challenging and ive never really tried !): i could totally just look it up but id love to hear from someone in the community if you dont mind!! 🌸 have an amazing day/night!!!
Hihi !! Yes! I saw we both studied psych and thought you were super cool :3 I also like pink and horror things!
I started Pilates a little over a year ago and it’s definitely been a journey. For staters I do mat Pilates rather than reformer, and I do at home workout rather than taking classes! I mostly follow YouTube videos because they guide you through the exercises and make it easier to check your positioning.
I personally watch MovewithNicole, she’s is a little advanced so depending on mobility I recommend watching her beginner videos and just keep in mind it’s ok to take break or modify workouts if you need! You definitely shouldn’t feel discouraged if some things are a little hard at first. It’ll be all the more rewarding to overcome the challenges in the end :3
Tips:
First and foremost always stretch before and after! I didn’t realize how much this affected my workouts until recently but it really gets myself ready to workout and helps with soreness afterwards. Plus it gives you a chance to listen to music before your workout! I personally focus on flexibility and dynamic stretches as my mobility isn’t the best due to injuries. Anything to get my hips, hamstrings, and back ready for the workout helps me!
My biggest tips for starting out is to make sure your form is correct as to not cause any unnecessary discomfort and try to repeat videos. I feel like every time I rewatch a workout I do something even better than before that I didn’t realize I wasn’t doing. It also gives you a chance to master certain exercises and find a basis for what muscles you want to work on the most!
Breath control is another really big aspect of Pilates. Because oxygen is what helps our muscles a work the way they need to, breathing properly and deep enough when exercising is super important for both effectiveness and soreness. This is another reason I prefer to watch guided videos because Nicole walks you through everything! When starting out breathing might feel really insignificant but as you progress it will make a huge difference.
My last tip is to have fun and romanticize it! Cute outfits, bows, and a pretty mat are definitely small ways I keep myself motivated. I really like the blogalaties line but there are a ton of other coquette clothing options out there! Price can also be a factor in this so just know some days I wear Arie flare leggings and other days I just wear pajama shorts and a band tee. Whatever makes you motivated to put the work in is what good for you!
I hope this helped you out some!! If you have any other questions please feel free to ask :3 I hope you have a great day/night too!! <3

___
This week (24.06.-30.06.), I felt inspired to try something new: A selection of workouts inspired by the masterpiece that is Shōjo Kakumei Utena. The inspiration here wasn't the body image of 90s Shōjo, but rather the ways the characters move. The idea was to pretend that I was preparing to fight those hyper mannerist duels. Since I'm very limited in what I can do at home (no kendo, no fencing, not even basketball...) AND since the duels themselves are metaphorical kaleidoscopes of dance, fencing and freudian shenanigans, I picked a selection that combines factors that would go into this way: focusing on strength, flexibility and endurance, as well as balance, grace and control.

To-do
Fold laundry
Clean bathrooms
Goals
Reach chapter 21 in my book
Go to a yoga class
Make a quiche for breakfast prep
Make banana muffins
Since we missed last night's yoga class due to no childcare being available, last night I booked both for today and tomorrow. It was a good thing I booked tomorrow's class last night too, there was only one spot left which means my husband can't go with me. I'm disappointed because I enjoy doing yoga with him, but Monday and tonight's classes are really the ones that will be most beneficial for him. Monday's class was really slow and had us holding poses for multiple minutes. The only sweat I worked up was from the room being heated. Tonight is supposed to be similar if I understood the description correctly.
